Armed with knives and flying a nazi sonnenrad flag they gathered in front of the bar, but they were quickly confronted and chased off by the crowd of SHARP skinheads and other antifascists attending the gig.

The knife-wielding neonazis, forced into a pathetic retreat carrying their wounded members, were beaten with mic stands and chairs as they fled down the road, with several hiding in businesses along the way, seeking the protection of staff and security members of colour so they wouldnt be beaten further by the antifascists chasing them. Hey anyone living in Queensland Australia the government's got a survey out asking LGBTQIA+ communities what things we think should be prioritised to strengthen outcomes for LGBTQIA+ people in Queensland.

It should be noted that just last week they passed the Births Deaths and Marriages Registration Bill that recognises same-sex and gender diverse parents on a child's birth certificate and repeals the requirement to undergo sexual reassignment surgery to change the gender on your birth certificate (+ lets you change your name and gender at the same time in a two for one deal) just last week (14/07/23) so there's a decent bet that they will actually listen to what you tell them.

Also apparently QLD is trying to pass new hate crime legislation too so this is pretty important.

im trying to respond to people on my post who have questions or are confused but theres just so many 😭 i dont know how to explain the intricacies of classism or how hard it is to get a lawyer to start and WIN a discrimination case. especially since i dont know australian laws. but like... this behavior, denying someone a job for their outfit, is really common across the world. classism is pervasive and it's dangerous and it costs people their lives. we would have to change the capitalist system, change policies across the globe, and work on our internalized classist beliefs for the rest of our lives.

I've been listening to "Time" by Beachwood Sparks from the Sandbox Sessions a lot lately. I've always been drawn to sweet pop in the Americana (I really don't actually like that label) style - The Jayhawks, Wilco, and The Autumn Defense are other examples.

Then, Rowan Smith's "Slow Clouds" came across my radar this morning. Smith was a member of Macguffins (Melbourne, Australia) in the late 80s and early 90s (Cloudberry Records has an excellent CD retrospective available).

After listening to "Slow Clouds" I almost immediately came across Misty Lanes "Colourless Green Ideas" on Third Eye Stimuli Records. Misty Lanes is the vehicle for the work of Steven Schouten. Bandcamp describes his music as influenced by The 13th Floor Elevators and The Kinks.
