When an Atmoran or Nord mourned a sibling, they'd wear a bear pelt, often from a black bear, to show their loss.
The bear was the totem animal of Tsun, the nordic god of trials and adversity. We see him in Sovngarde guarding the Whalebone bridge. He died defending Shor from other gods, this was remembered as one of their "Dead Gods" like Shor. The sibling connection is his the fact that he and his brother Stuhn, the god of ransom fraternity and justice, were shield-thanes to Shor. To mourn his brother's death he adorned parts of the bear into his armor. Making the animal a symbol of mourning a sibling and or a sign of true strength.
Wearing a blackened bear cloak symbolized the mourning of a sibling and the strength to carry what was left behind. The surviving sibling would also be one of the few allowed to light the pyre for the deceased. Their world began with each other and one would end with it.

While I doubt that this a thing people really argue here, I've seen it be argued on other social media and it just...kinda annoys me. Mostly because it's just, quite a terrible argument.
No, the Falmer did not deserve to be blinded and enslaved for the Night of Tears. What they did there was messed up, but like in any other world, that wasn't every single breathing living Falmer who did it. That wasn't everyone of them going there to do it. In the same way innocent people died and suffered there, so they did later on:Atmoran and Snow Elf.
And thats ignoring the likely plausibility of the genocide done against them, but that ties to what I wrote above.
Saying that they deserved their fate in any way, would be like saying that the Altmer deserve horrific things, because of the shit the Thalmor does. Two fucked up things are two fucked up things, not justice for the first fucked up thing. Just because a part of a group of people did something unforgivable, doesn't mean the entire group deserves to have something unforgivable done to them.
Other examples of what I mean, just because the Dunmer practiced slavery, a big chunk of their society at that, doesn't mean they "deserved" to be slaughtered by the Argonians in the way they were. Especially when you remember that many of them did advocate against slavery. Or that they deserve to be refugees living in a ghetto.
What I'm essentially trying to say here is that, regardless who started what, the end result is always the same: innocent folk suffering and dying. A group may have started something, but it doesn't mean every single bloody member of it "deserves" a horrific fate. It's a very dumb thing to say and argue, because by that logic everyone deserves a horrific fate because someone of the same race did a bad thing. And it is too close to some things people have said in reality, to be used as an argument.
Sorry if this is a bit rambly, I just really felt the need to explain my thoughts on this, I hope I did it well enough here. I hope you have a good day, whomever is reading this ☺️

"and so the moth fell in love with the lamp." she tells them.
(no background ver + ramble under the cut, as per usual!)
I hosted a secret santa event in my personal server and got @illumiera as my recipient... and so I drew none other than her iconic duo, Mothlamp! I had so much fun drawing both Mothraak and Elentari, based on all the beautiful screenshots of them posted.
merry christmas, my friend! 🎄🎁🦆✨

Headcanon about Frost Giants
Unlike their more warm brethren they are not descendants of Atmorans
While many people speculate that they are but got cursed somehow the truth is more intriguing
You see the Frost Giants are descendants of an uncommon race in modern times but not Atomorans
They are descendants of the Kamali the snow daemons of Akavir

No one talks about how atmorans brought the Dragon Cult when they came to Skyrim, and maybe the snow elves didn't want a dragon or dragon priest to have the Eye of Magnus and that's why they also attacked (I know there're more reasons to it).
It is said that initially Snow Elves welcomed them, and even traded with Atmorans. Until relationships got really tense, culminating with the Night of Tears. Perhaps tensions were high because dragons were expanding their territory and demanding that everyone worshipped them.
We know Atmorans were having a civil war back in their homeland. A religious civil war. Yes, again. Precisely because of dragons. People were tired of been forced into servitud, and wanted to keep worshipping their other gods in peace (Moth, fox, hawk, whale, dragon etc. Latter in time they molded the gods with their animals representation), instead of just dragons. Like a prelude to the dragon wars. But somehow these cultists won and Atmora froze (not just cold, but it is said that also frozen in time).
In my opinion Snow Elves, did not want any of that Dragon Cult bullshit and fought against it. Yet with dragons and the Thu'um on the atmoran side, their magic wasn't enough to defeat them.
We know so little, and it's the rhetoric of the winners. After all the only information we have of that conflict is of Nordic sources.

Okay hear me out. What if the Falmer were culturally far more similar to the modern day nords rather than the altmer or the ayleids?
Like if the Falmer's culture was a more intense version of what we see of the ancient nords in Skyrim. Because the nords kind of just integrated their own culture into the falmers. Maybe the Falmer were originally far more similar to the vikings and other ancient Scandinavian cultures rather than just being the altmer but pale.
Or maybe even towards the end of their reign they started to shift cultures to a more altmer influenced lifestyle and religion making Auri-el a more prominent God figure in their pantheon. Sort of similar to how Scandinavia got christianised.
It would explain why tensions between the Atmorans and the Falmer suddenly became so high when they were previously living peacefully together.
It would also be fascinating to consider the fact the nords could actually be descendants of both the atmorans and the Falmer. Sort of like the bretons. It's very difficult to completely wipe out an entire country worth of people. And not every Falmer wanted to go underground with most being opposed to the idea. So it would make more sense for those who didn't join the Dwemer for protection to be slowly "integrated" with the atmorans which would explain the entire disappearance of the rest of the Falmer. It also gives the modern day Nords a new context which I really like because its sort of poetic irony the nords themselves would be another small part of what was left of the ancient falmer.
Also there's no way a bunch of people living in freezing cold temperatures aren't going to have beards. Bethesda is lying to me.
Anyways it might not line up with canon but it's an interesting thought. Also brings some funny scenarios to mind.

If a nord survived getting struck by lightning they probably think Kyne was either mad at them or was testing them.
Depends on the Nord's mindset at the time.

Mithir found Him in the garden, feeding a fawn as its mother laid by His feet. Songbirds rested their wings among the ever-blooming wisteria that adorned the dwarfed cedars, chirping a final song before the sun set upon them, and He hummed alongside them. The Prince surely knew of Mithir's presence, but his attention remained on the feeding fawn, and Mithir made no effort to make himself known, for a growing part of him wished to leave. Leave the Snow Prince to his moment of peace, leave the words unsaid, leave it all be, and treat it as a terrible vision. Yes, a vision, something his mind created in the chaos of the battle, the storm, the warping words from their foes. A vision, for the imagination can run rampant when the eyes fail, and he surely imagined everything after the first blades crossed, and the formation shattered.
A vision. The dead do not rise again, therefore she never died.
The fawn returned to its patient mother, and they returned to their pens. The Snow Prince's humming trailed away, and the songbirds, satisfied with their performance, returned to their nests. He stood straight and tall, reached up to the wisteria and gently grazed the blooms with his long fingers, unmarred by calluses for no spear or sword would dare to mark him.
"Beautiful, aren't they?" the Snow Prince asked. Only the Snow Prince asked. Mithir had prepared a hundred times for this. He rehearsed his grievance over and over, once, with a shaking voice, to the woman he was here to expose, and at that moment all words left him. "It's alright. Speak."
"They are, my Prince, but I have not come to this place to admire your menagerie, or your garden." Mithir was surprised at the strength in his voice, the conviction with which he spoke, the confidence with which he walked towards Him. "I am here as a loyal servant, to the realm and to You, my Prince."
The Snow Prince remained with the wisteria. "No thoughts on the flowers, then.. The weight that worries at you must be heavy indeed."
"It is-" Mithir halted. The words were there, but his throat closed and would not allow them to pass. He realized then how childish he was as he rehearsed, why the so-called "Miracle" feigned nothing but passivity as he made his rehearsed threat. He choked on his words, and felt his face grow hot with shame. The Snow Prince remained with the wisteria.
"You recently returned from battle. A victorious battle, one so sorely needed, so it was told. Is this true? So often people fear to speak truth to me."
"It is true, my Prince. We drove them back, and furthermore we pushed to reclaim what remains of Aulwend."
The Snow Prince smiled. The evening delayed. "Good. Good.. Yet you are troubled by our victory?"
"Not the victory, my Prince. The.. The Miracle that occurred," said Mirthir. The Snow Prince turned from the wisteria to face him, and Mithir bore the full brunt of His beauty.
"You wish to speak of my little blackbird, then. Very well. Speak," He said, and the will of a Prince was never denied.
"She perished, my Prince," Mirthir said all at once, his carefully practiced words forgotten as he spilled out the truth: how she met them first and was struck down with their black-steel axes, the berserk screams from her killer as he landed blow after blow, the shouts, the clash of steel against glass, the sudden winds, the noise, the five-damned noise, the Atmoran who came sudden upon Mithir, only to fall by way a dead woman's spear, her armor shattered but her flesh unmarked, the look on her face, the dark dreams of that day no healer has yet soothed, the visions in the corner of his eyes. Mithir's voice cracked from strain and tears and compulsion, and when he finally found himself silent the Snow Prince took his face in His hands. His grip was as gentle with Mithir as it was with the wisteria.
"My child, my witness to the Miracle. Thank you for speaking the truth. But you need not fear."
"My Prince, I fear! I fear she is not of us, that what I saw was no divine act! It was-"
"And what, my child, does a divine act look like? Would you not tremble before the sight of me on the battlefield? Would your mind not believe the truth your eyes beheld? And so it is with the will of the divine. To even put it into words is to bring it to question, and to question is to deny." Mithir broke his gaze upon the Snow Prince, and found the cold night had crept in. "Look upon me, Mithir, and answer truthfully: Do you deny that you witnessed the Miracle in action?"
--
Mithir returned to his barrack late. Galain and Ceridyn allowed him entry with no question, for they smelled the wisteria on him. It would do no good to question, for Mithir had no answers. He had no words, and he had no denial.

Slooooowly rotating the idea of a Last Dragonborn who is ACTUALLY atmoran (unlike Tiber who just pretended to be/got mythologized as being one), or, well, a Sea Giant born and raised on one of atmoras more survivable satellite islands and just the comedy potential of All That.

Stopped eating enough I guess.”#SOOO confused at the civil war and ulfric claiming to be a more true nord when NONE of these heathens are worshipping the old gods right an#who tf is this tiny dead man theyre praying to and he is way way way too small to be atmoran#and so on#OH... and them drinking sanguine under the table just thanks to their SIZE#tes#the elder scrolls
