Hundreds of Jewish anti-war demonstrators have been arrested during a Passover seder that doubled as a protest in New York, as they shut down a major thoroughfare to pray for a ceasefire and urge the Senate majority leader, Chuck Schumer, to end US military aid to Israel.
The 300 or so arrests took place on Tuesday night at Grand Army Plaza, on the doorstep of Schumer’s Brooklyn residence, where thousands of mostly Jewish New Yorkers gathered for the seder, a ritual that marked the second night of the holiday celebrated as a festival of freedom by Jews worldwide.
The seder came just before the US Senate resoundingly passed a military package that includes $26bn for Israel.

There's a place where living armor still walks.
It's an old battlefield. A location of a particularly bad memory for some cultures. There are ruined buildings, undetonated bombs, corpses, so many corpses. But what lasted the longest was the power armor. The armor that still walks.
They're old models of power armor. Made way back before the mega corporations started getting cheap with the internal processes of such things. Decades pass and they're still functioning. And they way they were made; they would do anything they need to to make sure they're whoever is inside doesn't die.
They're capable of automatically walking if the user isn't able to walk. And in their automatic walking mode they're capable of running from targets, even attacking hostiles if the user doesn't override such protocols. The only problem with this is that they never bothered to let the armor know when the person inside was dead.
All of the armor that contains dead bodies just keeps walking. With the starships they were meant to come back to long since flown away, they just wander forever, looking for rest and safety that does not exist for them anymore. And because of their automatic defense, if anyone tries to remove the bodies they'll consider it a hostile attempt to disarm, and attack. The governments and corporations involved decided that it wasn't of any use to try.
So the armor walks. Some in perfect condition, others with massive holes, or missing body parts, marking their deaths. And they wander. Locals know not to go anywhere near them. They're about as hostile a threat as local raiders or wildlife, and far less easy to reason with. But you can avoid them. And if you don't go close you'll just see them, walking to nowhere. Useally you'll just catch a glimpse, something moving, not quite human but human shaped, in the distance. Occasionally you'll even see a sign of the body inside, parts of the old armor fallen off, to reveal ancient bones.
There is a place where the dead still walk.

There's been a lot of discussion around art and humanity around the whole AI studio ghibli thing, but I think it's also important to acknowledge Studio Ghibli's origins in postwar and antiwars sentiments, alongside its goal of capturing the subtle beauty of life.
It's not only a mocking of Miyazaki's work, the humanity behind art, and all of those who worked in Studio Ghibli films, but it's also a mocking of the environmental, corporate, and antiwar concerns that Ghibli has always highlighted and fought against.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ghibli is a reflection of life, in the hopeful aspects that Miyazaki has wanted to see it change in. He and his artists have poured their experiences into these works, and that includes the fires that burned Japanese cities down during WW2, and the cancers that haunted them decades after.
When you see an imperialistic or anti-environmental company running around with this ghiblified artstyle cooked up by an environmentally destruction generative AI, it is more than a mocking of art. It is a stain against the survivors who were part of these stories.

The Drop (1944) - Albert Richards (1919-1945) [United Kingdom]
Oil on panel [549mm x 752mm]
[Image Description. It is clear as day, a D-Day painting. There is a chaotic scenario of troops dropping down from the sky, starting to land in the muddy and grassy terrain of France. Troops are sporadically running or aiding friends across this expanse. Their parachutes are like a jellyfish bloom against a sky set colorful by war. These parachutes are set in angles of every which way.
In the distance of the sky is a continuing trail of them, reminiscent of dandelion seeds in the wind with their shape. In front of them are the planes deploying these paratroopers. Even further back in the sky is more waves of planes, likely friendly and enemy ones alike. At the background is French forests and cities, billowing with smoke and chaos. End ID.]
Albert Richards was born the son of a WW1 vet. After attending art school he was conscripted for WW2, and eventually would end up as a British paratrooper on D-Day. This painting is Richards recalling the event through art while still enlisted during the war. In 1945, while deployed in Netherlands, his jeep drove a land mine, killing him at age 25.
This painting is located in the Imperial War Museum in London, England, United Kingdom.

Statement of the Central Secretariat of the Communist Party of Pakistan on the escalation of military tension between India and Pakistan:
The Communist Party of Pakistan, grounded in the Marxist-Leninist tradition, firmly condemns the military aggression initiated by the Indian bourgeois state and the counter-aggression launched by the Pakistani ruling class. These are not wars of liberation, nor are they in the interest of the proletariat, they are the wars of rival bourgeois military aggression for regional hegemony at the expense of the working class.
We assert that the working masses of India and Pakistan have no stake in the nationalist sabre-rattling of their respective ruling classes. In a region armed with nuclear weapons, these provocations risk plunging the subcontinent into catastrophic annihilation, an outcome that would spare neither caste, creed, nor class, but would disproportionately destroy the lives and livelihoods of workers, peasants, and the poor. Such military posturing is a diversion, a smokescreen to veil the deepening crisis of capitalist exploitation, inflation, unemployment, and social unrest. It is a tactic long used by bourgeois regimes to stoke reactionary nationalism and crush the rising tide of class consciousness.
The Communist Party of Pakistan calls upon the working class and progressive forces across South Asia to reject this false nationalism and embrace proletarian internationalism. Our struggle is not with the workers across the border, but with the comprador bourgeoisie, feudal remnants, and military-industrial complexes that profit from bloodshed. Let there be no illusion the path to lasting peace lies not in diplomatic band-aids between warring states, but in the revolutionary transformation of society through the overthrow of capitalism, the dismantling of bourgeois militarism, and the unity of the working class beyond borders.
Let the war drums of chauvinism be silenced by the battle cry of international solidarity.
Workers of the world, unite! Inquilab Zindabad!

And Lot's wife, of course, was told not to look back where all those people and their homes had been. But she did look back, and I love her for that, because it was so human. So she was turned into a pillar of salt. So it goes.

Despite what you might have heard, Trump is seeking even more military spending. The cycle repeats, and the only ones who win are the defense contractors, lobbyists, and government cronies who profit from endless war.
