New data out of Yale’s Youth Poll broke the internet last week when it revealed a partisan split within Gen Z. Given a generic Democrat vs. Republican ballot for 2026, respondents ages 18-21 supported Republicans by nearly 12 points, while those ages 22-29 backed Democrats by about 6 points. It was a stunning gap that undermined the longstanding notion of younger voters always trending more liberal. On the contrary, today’s youngest eligible voters are more conservative than their older counterparts: According to the poll, they are less likely to support transgender athletes participating in sports, less likely to support sending aid to Ukraine and more likely to approve of President Donald Trump. Fifty-one percent of younger Gen Zers view him favorably, compared to 46 percent of older Gen Z. That split might seem surprising, but it’s only the latest example of an emerging dynamic I’ve noticed developing over the last few years: It’s increasingly clear that there are actually two different Gen Z’s, each with a particular political worldview.

Since just after the 2022 midterm elections, I’ve held listening sessions — open-forums for discussion — with teens and young adults across the country to find out how young people think and feel about politics. I’ve traveled to high school and college campuses, community centers and even homes. And as I’ve written before, these conversations with young people illuminated the distinctions between Gen Z 1.0 and Gen Z 2.0.

Gen Z 1.0, the older segment, graduated high school and tasted independence prior to the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. Their coming of age coincided with Trump’s first term in office and the rise of anti-Trump resistance movements for racial justice and gender equity. Social media apps like Instagram and Snapchat, with all their filters and made-for-social media aesthetics, were commonplace — but TikTok wasn’t yet the massively popular platform it is today. Fast forward to 2020 through today, and those in Gen Z 2.0 came of age under different circumstances. They graduated high school during or after the start of the pandemic, which disrupted their K-12 experience. When many in this cohort began college, it was largely on Zoom, or in a campus environment that barely resembled pre-pandemic times. The political situation was also starkly different: With President Joe Biden in office, Trump and his MAGA movement felt like the counterculture — especially for young men, who swung hard to the right.

Indeed, gender played a prominent role in shaping the youth vote in 2024. An analysis by Blue Rose Research found a 20-point gender gap in Democratic support between men and women ages 25 and younger — the largest such gender gap in any generation by far. “It’s normal to see women supporting Democratic candidates at like a five- to 10-point higher rate than men do,” said Ali Mortell, Blue Rose’s research director. “Among the youngest cohort of Gen Z, it’s north of 20 points. So this is really jarring, and I think, caught the Democratic Party somewhat flat-footed.”

That gender gap has attracted a lot of media attention, but the headlines gloss over some important nuances. While young men turbo-charged Trump’s success in November, they’re not the only Gen Zers shifting right. Despite the overall gender gap, the Yale poll found that, while women ages 22-29 have a net-negative favorability of Trump, those ages 18-21 are more supportive of him, roughly split between a favorable and unfavorable view of the president. Young white women in particular are trending more conservative. Data from Tufts University’s Center for Information & Research on Civic Learning and Engagement (CIRCLE) shows that, while women of color ages 18-29 overwhelmingly supported former Vice President Kamala Harris, young white women were split between Harris and Trump, 49 percent to 49 percent. That’s a huge jump from 2020, when, according to CIRCLE’s data, young white women voted for President Joe Biden over Trump by a 15-point margin.

That could be in part because some of the most formative experiences separating Gen Z 1.0 and 2.0 cut across gender — the most obvious being the pandemic. “We’ve definitely been cognizant that there feels like there’s a change between the kids who got through high school before and after Covid,” said Jack Dozier, the 19-year-old deputy director of the Yale survey. “There is a huge variation that came up between just the college-age young adults, and then the young adults who are over 22.”

In my own research, I started to hear about Covid’s impact in conversations with young Americans in 2022. Throughout history, young people haven’t liked being told what to do, and for many younger Gen Zers, the pandemic restrictions chafed against their youthful discomfort with authority. At first, they expressed annoyance with what they saw as prolonged social distancing on campuses that impacted the student experience. As one 20-year-old told me in a listening session at the end of March: “The adults don’t have it all together, and they don’t have my back.” When students finally went back to school, they complained about the policing of their behavior — not just regarding Covid protections like social distancing and masking, but also broader issues around language. Our national online discourse, these young people said, had adopted an overt political correctness and cancel culture – the tendency, particularly in online spaces, to denounce others for controversial statements or action. Many young people perceived this as promoted by Democrats — those in control, not just in D.C., but in pop-culture and on social media.

[...] “Young people are not only consuming digital media content, non-traditional sources at much higher rates than older generations, but they’re increasingly getting their news from non-political, non-traditional sources,” Mortell told me. But she took it one step farther: “We are seeing this very clear relationship between defection away from the Democratic Party and TikTok consumption.” The rapid onset of TikTok encapsulates the head-spinning pace of change younger Gen Zers have experienced. There are cleavages within every generation, but perhaps none more so than Gen Z, which has grown up amid the fastest speed of technological and political change in recent memory. When it comes to their politics, time will tell if the rightward shift sticks. Until then, anyone trying to understand this generation’s politics will need to figure out just which Gen Z they’re asking about.

The Yale Youth Poll confirms that there are two Gen Z’s, with the older Gen Z cohort tracking more liberal, and the younger Gen Z cohort, especially young Gen Z men, trending conservative.

We’ll see how this will hold up in a few years.

“They can’t lose their powers, it’s not fair” oh this is so foreshadowing. It also reminds me of the overarching idea that as a miraculous holder you can kind of just do whatever you want, and that you can create a third outcome instead of choosing between two bad things

Really interesting how Nath’s room is so huge, but only the tiny, hidden-away corner of his desk is decorated or representative of his personality in any way. The rest of the room is neutral and boring like it’s from a real estate catalogue, and is clearly in his mom’s style rather than his own. That shows how controlling she is and how even in his own bedroom the space represents what she wants without considering him. There’s even an abstract painting with harsh black smears and a bunch of eyes on it? It’s like his parents put that up to make him feel like he’s constantly being observed or scrutinized by them even when they aren’t physically there, which follows him away from home as well. Creepy af and reminds me of that one psychology thing where putting up posters of eyes is supposed to deter people from stealing. He has to shove his true self into one little corner as far from the door’s line of sight as possible where he can block what he’s doing with his back.

And this whole “true self vs my parents want me to be a certain way” thing is put in the context of homophobia in this episode, but I think it goes deeper than that. His sexuality and career plan are just two examples in what’s likely a constant stream of “hey you’re not existing correctly please fix that”

When Gabriel Agreste in s4 came out I made a post about the juxtaposed shots of Adrien and Marinette’s scenes with how Adrien’s house is oppressively empty and colorless while Marinette’s bedroom and visit to the art room were colorful, crowded, and filled with details full of personality and warmth. They’re doing it again with Marc and Nathaniel’s houses as a parallel to Marinette and Adrien, and showing us the Mariknight art from that episode solidifies the callback. Even then, despite the rest of the house being cold af, Adrien got to have a bunch of colorful games, music, and a TV in his bedroom even though he didn’t really choose which enrichment got thrown into his enclosure. As far as I can tell, Nathaniel just has art supplies. How is Shirel worse than Gabriel in this regard the bar is in hell

Nath rewrote the ending and Marc liked it better hm. He’s also taking poetry class. Before, Nath said he was bad at writing, but it seems like he’s improving. I wonder if they’re moving in the direction of him making solo comics later on. Not saying he and Marc are gonna stop working together or anything, but Nath wants to do this for a living and we don’t have any indication of what Marc wants to do yet, so there’s a chance comics might be a hobby project for him in the future. By which I mean when they’re adults, not like, later this season.

In El Toro de Piedra, there was a suspicious figure stalking Ivan, but I didn’t notice anyone like that here. In both those episodes, she didn’t say anything specific about Sabrina nor Ivan, so what’s going on in this one? Perhaps she was watching him in the scene where he went to destroy the prints?

There’s something to be said about how wlw relationships are seen as less threatening than mlm in media like girls kissing can be brushed off as cutesy but boys kissing is seen as a weird kink thing, like how the dad was saying mlm romance isn’t deep and sentimental unlike straight romance. In TV-Y7 cartoons in general there have been a good handful of iconic canon wlw moments, but I can’t think of any mlm equivalents other than minor side characters that barely do anything or like, older men who are also background characters and have no romantic subplot because they’re long time partners. In this show they’ve created an in-universe justification for why Marc and Nath are less open about their relationship, but they still continue to be censored far more heavily than Julerose, Zoe, or Caline and Giselle.

I mean kind of but not in any way that endangered him nor Alya. That’s what I was saying earlier that Nino and Nath value their relationships more than being a hero. The trouble here is that Lila is being really ominous about Nath, he has a track record of impulsively doing bad things, and he’s recklessly transformed a couple times in this ep alone, so this is… concerning but also cute? And since the comic represents them, instead of giving up their powers after a reveal they’re gonna combine them and make them stronger?

People have been saying there’s gonna be a Myvan one too because of the intro and yeah I agree. Probably even more, like I can’t imagine Luka and Juleka can hide it for long. Marinette will realize that nobody thinks lying to their friends and partners is sustainable. She values being a hero over her relationship because she feels responsible for everything. Like she can’t just quit her job and get replaced at this point, she needs to protect the whole city/world and to her, that’s bigger than her personal life.

Interesting that they’re obscuring Marc’s transformation. Does that suggest his episode is after this? It’s not like it’s a spoiler, we already know what he looks like. Dramatic effect ig. Marc was generally very mature throughout this ep tho, and he jumped into the fight to protect Nath, so idk maybe it came first

Lila already knows who most of the heroes are, but not them. There’s a good chance she will find out and use it against them in the endgame. She does know about Alya and Nino. I predicted after Daddycop that Sabrina might fly under her radar the longest and be key in tricking her a second time.

Important edit: I just noticed the spiderverse-esque comic book effects in his transformation sequence, that’s actually sick. It’s so blink and you’ll miss it and by god I missed it the first time. Nathaniel Kuntzerve or whatever his name is. The goat, like literally

I’ve heard Da Capo five times now (circa April 20th, 2025) and since the intermediary episodes aren’t technically legit episodes for the season, I’m locking in my answers for this finale season.

I will be posting this when Da Capo drops.

Buckle up because we got a lot to cover.

Within the themes of understanding the entire scope of the show, with the episode taking us back to the premise of Malevolent. The fact that the Manager wiped Arthur’s memory, and not the King IS FUCKING MASSIVE. The Manager knew what he was doing, and he hints as to WHY HEAVILY. The Manager wants Kayne gone, I can’t really put my finger as to why, because I don’t think it’s just because Kayne is just a fucking murderous freak. That’s a WHOLE DIFFERENT STORY that we’ll get to, probably at one point mid season.

There are three very important things that we learned:

1. The Manager wiped Jarthur’s memory, and the Waylay is essentially is his domain. He has a SIGNIFICANT amount of power and knowledge at his fingertips.

2. Someone is trailing behind Jarthur, which is obviously presented as an absolute demolition of the 4th wall (I can’t even lie, the Manager talking directly to the patreons and other audience participants scared the piss out of me)

3. Chekovs lighter. the fucking lighter is what has been keeping everything together. This one is glue that holds this entire theory together.

From the top, we need to discuss the function of the bridging episodes thus far. Looking at Coda, Prelude, and Intermezzo all with full, finished seasons following said episodes, I have come to the conclusion that not only do these episodes set a stage for the upcoming season, but also set the theme of the entire season. Which also goes with my theory that season 1-3 is one musical piece, 3-6 being another. Calling it a story would feel like a disservice to the themes set up, especially since discussions of music is so, so common. ESPECIALLY in da capo, but again I digress.

Coda, was a do over between the KIY and Arthur, the signal that Arthur’s character was about to be decimated and built back up all over.

Prelude was an introduction to issues and problems that we would encounter within the next 3 seasons, which specifically supports my theory of s4 being the preliminary season to whatever comes next. A prelude for the uninitiated, is an introductory piece of music, specifically the FIRST piece of music you hear before you get into the meat of everything. It’s where leitmotifs, time signatures, what key the piece will return to at certain points, etc.

Intermezzo, is what connects two pieces in a musical or dramatic piece. It’s usually a solo, too. This is one of the reasons why I think we go through so many characters this season, and why Arthur and John are just bing bonging back and forth between a bajillion things. The season is their first real season where they are on the same page, with the same purpose, which takes president over EVERYTHING ELSE. Arthur being the vehicle, John being the passenger- they and their mission are the only things that actually matter here at the end of the day.

Which brings us to Da Capo. This is going to serve in two different ways. Obviously it’s to reference what happened at the beginning of the show, as Da Capo has given us as a treat. It’s also where, if we stay true to my theory, s4 had left us hanging.

Roland fucking Cummings, father of Amanda Cummings (one of the side plot points of the first season). Who was he connected to that KAYNE LITERALLY CALLED OUT BY NAME? Frank Underhill, Henry McFarland, Eddie Mason, and Jarrett Coombs.

Final question, who is connecting Roland Cummings and the original boys who got this shit started? CHARLIE FUCKING DOWD.

Quick sidetrack before I really start digging up bodies.

Kayne is obviously a version of Nyarlathotep, whose origin is steeped in Egyptian myths (albeit, can get grossly racist thanks to dead resident evil shithead HP Lovecraft). who went to Egypt to unearth some crazy artifacts that folks would kill people for before he disappeared off the face of the fucking earth, before Malevolent?

Now I have relistened to ep 39 where Charlie/Noel explains all of this to Arthur, and I’m currently getting through the COC campaign that Harlan ran a few years back (so we’ll see where that takes me). I have also done a tiny bit of looking into the Lovecraftian (and other’s) mythos. I am regularly doing more and more tidbits of research because I’m fucking insane and also lowkey have wanted to run a COC game for some friends for a while now, blah blah blah this is just more exposition.

So anyway here comes my theory:

We know Lillith was bluffing about having the crimson stone and the gray stone because Kayne got the Graystone in S4. Kayne might as well be the new sheriff in town. What if we get to meet Roland finally in the Dark World, because bro has been dead and presumed missing for a fucking minute at that point (which could very well be a toss up between KIY or Kayne, because technically the King is the mate of Shub, remember that storyline? Also Kayne because well, Kayne). Again I’m getting way off track, BUT my guess is Roland somehow gets a hold of Charlie, who probably has seen Nephren-Ka’s (pharaoh and cult leader of Nyarlathotep, killed a lot of people) tomb and has gotten a fuck ton of information on since since he was with professionals. And my guess probably is that he has the puzzle pieces to help Arthur get rid of Kayne. The manager literally said Arthur is not the first to attempt this. I literally think he’s referring to Charlie and Roland, at the very least.

Now here comes my second theory, specifically on John getting a body:

Lillith is key. Lillith give John the ability to posses people the way she did with Hattie. Boom, pow he’s got a motherfucking body.

Only things I don’t have a theory on is how the flying fuck Arthur is making it out of this shit and who the fuck the manager is talking to if it’s not just a meta move on Harlan’s end. I’ll probably add to this post when I do.

Now I’m sorry this is sounds like a long shot, and ik it looks like I’ve lost my goddamn mind. After the conversation I had with @magnificentbastardanon I’ve had some serious clarity on this. Since tis the season of wagers, I need to make a bet with myself on how I think these next few episodes are going to go. I’ve already heard Ep 52. Da Capo, for Patreons drops not too soon from when I’m writing this, but I need a record of what I think is going to happen. I’ll probably post it once 52 comes out and Da Capo is announced to the masses. After Evrard’s castle, AND after how I predicted the ending of season was going to go, I’m feeling lucky and wanna try and see if I still got it.

Okay so Da Capo:

Da Capo in musical terminology for those who are not knowledgeable in this subject, is a reference to DC al Coda (fully: Da Capo Al Coda). Which is usually the marker on sheet of music that lets you know once the measure ends you must restart either at the beginning of the piece or where the coda is marked. Blah blah blah, sorry if you already knew this.

THIS ALREADY IS FUCKING ME UP BECAUSE WE HAVE AN EPISODE MARKED CODA????

SO WHAT WE DO HERE? Is this a reference to how Arthur is brought back by some miracle? Is a reference to the do over in time that Kayne was talking about? Is it about how theres going to be another whole ass wager behind Kayne’s already massive fucking gamble? Where does Lilith’s finger come into play? ARE WE GETTING PARKER? Is the waylay going to offer us another way to get back BECAUSE THATS STILL A THING. Especially since you know Arthur is a pile of fucking viscera right as of time of writing (circa April 11th, as a Patreon member).

Then there’s also a reference to the fact that Da Capo is also Italian for “the head”. Sometimes people reference to DC Al Coda when directing as “from the head”. now what does that have to do with Arthur and John?

It could mean Arthur, since he no longer has a physical form, takes John’s place as a physical being in the Dark World. It could also mean, and I’m not fully fleshed out on this theory, BUT it in involves Charlie motherfucking Dowd, NOW STICK WITH ME.

KAYNE WENT OUT OF HIS WAY TO SPECIFICALLY SAY THAT “CHARLIE WAS AT THE THRESHOLD” AND THAT HE WAS NEARBY.

Why would Kayne bring up a mortal who he just whisked away to fucking nowhere just because he wanted privacy with his favorite little human and fragment of an eldritch god? There is literally no other reason for him to be brought up in such an extensive manner if Charlie wasn’t an active player in what is happening. I can feel it in my fucking bones. Is Charlie about to be one of the keys to bring this all together, I am telling you. Idk if he’s gonna resurrect Arthur, or pull him from the Waylay, or even make a deal with the King, which could very well be the case?

This is how we get Charlie Dowd back, this is how we get Arthur back, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, this is how we get John his body back.

A relatively new problem in paediatrics is that as technology improves, as we have better early detection and better therapies, more of our patients are surviving to adulthood (which is fantastic!!!) but the adult medical world is woefully underprepared to support these people.

I’ve known so many colleagues with so many stories about how they transitioned someone to adult care who had been doing really well, who then died within a couple months. We care for children until age 16, but many of our kids with chronic and complex conditions we keep until 18/19 in the hospital - and for those with life-limiting conditions some people will continue to see them in clinic until they die.

I don’t think this is individual adult physicians’ fault, but it does show an inability of the system to support adults with disabilities compared to children - it’s harder to get, for example, daily chest physio, good multidisciplinary care, carers at home to the true extent that they are needed. It’s also related to a lack of knowledge, which to some degree is fair - many adult physicians didn’t learn about cerebral palsy, or many of the epilepsy or genetic syndromes, because those people just didn’t live to see an adult neurologist in the past.

However, this is no excuse. The world has changed for the better, people who used to die at 5 are reaching adulthood! But the medical world needs to adapt and improve and make room so that these gains can continue well into adulthood.

The world isn’t kind to anyone with disabilities, but particularly to adults. The lack of support is egregious but, in my opinion, fixable.

I also want to make a post appreciating the culling in Umbar. It's an extremely big, extremely ambitious city, and although it is kinda laggy, it functions really well. While playing normally I've had moments where I would whip my camera around fast enough to just barely see something load in, so I knew they were doing a lot of culling to make it work, but it wasn't until I saw the city from above that I realized just how extensive it is and how well the illusion works. I wish I had taken some screenshots to show just how much of the city is not loaded in at any given time to demonstrate it. But it's overall really effective use of the tool to build the illusion of a really big city.
