It would be really fun to have a Su She time travel story. Because he thinks he’s got a handle on things, he knows Wei Wuxian’s buttons and how Lan Wangji seduced him. When he wakes up as a teenage disciple of good standing in Cloud Recesses, before Lan Wangji had ever thought about giving Wei Wuxian a good dicking and securing the loyalty of the most dangerous man of in three generations, Su She figures he can steal a march on his rival and steal Wei Wuxian for himself.
He did not account for:
*Wei Wuxian’s extremely Lan Wangji only oriented sexuality
*Lan Wangji being an enormous vinegar pot who did not appreciate someone attempting to steal his Wei Ying time
*Jiang Wanyin strongly objecting to someone trying to seduce his dashixiong
*Nie Huaisang’s objection to this interruption to the Wangxian show he’s been watching with melon seeds
It’s the last one that really gets Su She in trouble, not that he realizes.
Basically Su She has dreams of seducing a proto-Yiling Laozu, not reading the room right, and kickstarting Wangxian earlier as Lan Wangji squares off with someone making Wei Wuxian deeply uncomfortable. And in the background, a proto-Headshaker plots against someone actively impeding his romantic drama.

Okay, random question but in the panel where Lan Zhan & Wei Ying are riding side by side, why is Alan Zhan’s horse sad? Is Little Apple bullying him? :(
PS: I check in daily for your posts, OBSESSED 😭

17 Novel Canon Cultivation WangXian Fics
This is rec list two for @yiling-laozu-is-loml
Here are some of the parameters of the list:
Cultivators in ancient China based WangXian fics
Long form fics only (I tried to stick to 50K plus - most are longer- and all are completed fics).
Canon based on novel only! No yin iron plot CQL plotlines (though some of these do include some donghua but minimal)
BottomXian if applicable only
can include: canon divergent, fix-its, and time travel (I included all of the above)
I'm not going to lie I had to cut out so many of my favs because of the Yin Iron plot BUT I still think I put together a stellar list.
A lot of them are fix-its some are totally unique in their plots and I have a few Yilling-Wei sect fics that I adore and hope you do too!
Enjoy the list!
1 no one ever said the single-plank bridge had to be walked alone (174009 words) by rosemu
Chapters: 24/24 Rating: Teen And Up Audiences Relationships: Lan Zhan | Lan Wangji/Wei Ying | Wei Wuxian, Jiāng Yànlí/Jīn Zixuān (background), Mò Xuányǔ/Xuē Yáng | Xuē Chéngměi (Background), Sòng Lán | Sòng Zǐchēn/Xiǎo Xīngchén (background), One-Sided Xiǎo Xīngchén/Xuē Yáng | Xuē Chéngměi - Relationship Additional Tags: Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence, Alternate Universe - Yílíng Wèi Sect, Fix-It, Somebody Lives/Not Everyone Dies, Lan Zhan | Lan Wangji Stays at the Burial Mounds, Fluff, Angst, Domestic Fluff, Canon-Typical Violence, Found Family, Slow Burn, not the slowest burn but they do take their sweet time, LWJ and WWX get to be Dads together, the healing power of homoerotic flute/guqin duets, EXTREMELY self-indulgent, Happy Ending Summary: “Have you heard? The esteemed Second Jade of Lan, Hanguang-jun, has defected from the Lan sect! He’s living at the Burial Mounds now apparently.” “What?! That scourge, the Yiling Patriarch, has managed to corrupt even the most ideal, upstanding cultivator. How truly terrifying!” Lan Wangji learns to follow his heart over the rules just a little earlier and it changes some things.
NOTES: A fix-itish but also Yilling-Wei sect fic in which Lan Wangji just never leaves the burial mounds after his visit? So many things are fixed with the second jade just kind of always being by Wei Wuxian. This fic has wholesome energy and found family vibes.
2 Cultivating immortality (230949 words) by KizuKatana
Chapters: 44/44 Rating: Explicit Warnings: Graphic Depictions Of Violence Additional Tags: Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence, Canon-Typical Violence, Rogue Cultivator Wei Ying | Wei Wuxian, Pining, Mutual Pining, Wei WuXian low self-esteem, BAMF Wei Ying | Wei Wuxian, BAMF Lan Wangji, Angst, Angst with a Happy Ending, not sure if this qualifies as fix-it but that was my emotional need/intent, Hurt/Comfort, unreliable narrator (wwx's self image is…), sect wars happening, Canon typical darkness, demonic cultivation descriptions in detail, self-indulgent exploration of the creation of demonic cultivation and how it changed wwx, JC and lwj are reluctant (VERY RELUCTANT) allies, Madam Yu and Lan Qiren are made to face up to their faults, Jiang YanLi is badass (fight me) though not in terms of cultivation strenght, JC gets a chance to redeem himself, Found Family, Top Lan Zhan | Lan Wangji/Bottom Wei Ying | Wei Wuxian, First Time, novel canon relationship dynamics, Please do not post to GoodReads or any other site Series: Part 1 of Cultivation partners universe Summary: “A weapon is not the same as a spouse, even if that weapon is powerful.” The words had barely left Wei Wuxian’s lips when he found himself slammed against the trunk of the nearest tree, Lan Wangji’s hands gripping painfully tight around his shoulders, practically lifting him from the ground. “Wei Ying is not a weapon!” Lan Wangji bit out. Wei Wuxian had said many things that had angered the illustrious Second Jade in the past. When he had been in Cloud Recesses as a youth, it had been Wei Wuxian’s favorite hobby. But he realized had never managed to truly enrage Lan Wangji with anything he had said until this moment. - - - - The Lan sect has been putting pressure on Lan Wangji to find a cultivation partner. They don't like the one he chooses.
NOTES: Baby WY has a journey to discover his self worth in this fic. The canon divergence happens after he's kicked out of cloud recesses and the subsequently kicked out of the Jiang sect via Madam Yu. There is a rogue cultivator WY plotline paired with Sect pressure for Lan Zhan to get a cultivation partner and the stubborn man vs oblivious man 230k is fantastic.
3 like speaking to my heart (613672 words) by SnowshadowAO3
Chapters: 42/42 Rating: Teen And Up Audiences Additional Tags: Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence, Alternate Universe - Daemons, Slow Burn, Hurt/Comfort, Angst with a Happy Ending, Canonical Character Death, Some people live!, And some people still die in this fic it's just a matter of who STAYS dead and who is really dead ;), additional warnings in specific chapters, if you don't know what daemons are that's ok because I explain it in the author's note, also by slow burn I VERY much mean slow burn Summary: Wei Wuxian is staring up at the sky, thinking idly about the taste of Emperor’s Smile on his tongue, when Suibian jumps full force onto his stomach and cries, “A-Xian, don’t be mad!” The sheer force of her pounce knocks the breath out of him. The resulting pause is just long enough for Jiang Cheng, who up to this point has been laying rather peacefully next to him, to shoot up and demand, “Oh great, what did you do now?” To be fair, the question isn’t exactly unwarranted. Suibian looks an absolute mess: twigs stuck in her fur, dirt smeared across the white fluff of her underbelly. She’s panting up a storm, little heh heh heh gasps that haven’t edged into her normal high-pitched laughter. When her ears press back against her head, she could almost pass for pitiful. “Bichen hates me.” Wei Wuxian’s first thought is Why would Lan Zhan’s daemon hate you?, but it’s followed quickly by remembering exactly where he is, how little trouble he’s caused today, and the fact that he hasn’t seen Suibian for a few minutes. A grin spreads across his face. (Or: The most important name a cultivator will ever pick isn’t for their sword. It’s for their daemon.)
NOTES: This is still ancient china cultivators but has a little bit of au due to cultivators having daemons. It loosely follows the book plotline as well but is canon divergent. I honestly did not expect to love this 600k fic so much but it had my HEART. I fell for the plot as well as the sentient daemons and the role they play in helping these two sort out their feelings.
4 From Whence You Came (79393 words) by kanzaki19
Chapters: 12/12 Rating: Mature Warnings: Graphic Depictions Of Violence Relationships: Lan Zhan | Lan Wangji/Wei Ying | Wei Wuxian, Jiang Yanli/Jin Zixuan, Jiang Cheng | Jiang Wanyin/Wen Qing Additional Tags: Time Travel Fix-It, Night Hunts (Modao Zushi), Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence, Alternate Universe - Time Travel, Fix-It, Canon-Typical Violence, Time Travel, Happy Ending, Angst with a Happy Ending Series: Part 1 of Second Chances Summary: Do not take those you love for granted, tell them you love them. You may never see them again. After being torn from the life he has lovingly settled in, Wei Wuxian finds himself back in Qiongi Path. Faced with immediate threats he grabs hold of every opportunity to better the lives of his family.
NOTES: A solid fix-it from Qiongi Path. WY dies and wakes up mid battle with enough time to save Zixuan. This changes the timeline for the best but at the expense of their established relationship in the alternate timeline. A little bit of mourning there, but still a happy ending though!
5 my life's journey is far from over (148672 words) by thelastdboy
Chapters: 40/40 Rating: Explicit Warnings: Graphic Depictions Of Violence Additional Tags: Alternate Universe - Modern Setting, Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence, Madam Lan Lives (Modao Zushi), Jiang Yanli Lives, Wen Qing Lives (Modao Zushi), Post-Sunshot Campaign (Modao Zushi), POV Wei Ying | Wei Wuxian, Slow Burn, Yiling Laozu Wei Ying | Wei Wuxian, Recovery, Hurt/Comfort, Healing Is a Slow Process, therapy is good actually, All women deserve better, Modern AU but not too modern™, mlm/wlw solidarity, the mortifying ordeal of discovering you're into bdsm while you're caught up in political intrigue, Kink Negotiation, Kink Exploration, Somebody Lives/Not Everyone Dies, Wei Ying | Wei Wuxian Lives, Mental Health Issues, References to Depression, Additional Warnings In Author's Note, Burial Mounds Ensemble as Family (Modao Zushi), Single Parent Wei Ying | Wei Wuxian, Selectively Mute Lan Zhan | Lan Wangji, Eventual Smut, Light Dom/sub, Lan Zhan | Lan Wangji/Wei Ying | Wei Wuxian Get a Happy Ending Series: Part 2 of the journey is far from over Summary: No one knew that Wei Ying survived the Burial Mounds. No one knew that it was his music that flooded the battlefields of the Sunshot Campaign with corpses. No one knew just how much he had given for his family. Now the war was over and Wei Ying found himself in Yiling once again and after spending years surrounded by nothing but death, he had to learn what it feels like to be alive again. He was dead to the world and for the first time wondered what it would be like to live for his own sake. Or: Wei Ying meets Lan Zhan after the war, both broken and searching for purpose. Wen Qing will do everything to save her little brother. Jiang Yanli learns that not every problem can be solved by soup alone.
NOTES: The story of what happens the war if no one knew that Wei Ying survived AND won the war for them. This has such a beautiful relationship between Lan Zhan and Wei Ying and features a jailbreak of (alive!) Madam Lan. It's healing and wonderful, but also expect the angst. Fear not though, it has a happy ending! BONUS: it does have a prequel which is part 1 in the series. Also very good but Lan Wangji POV and Wei Wuxian is presumed dead.
6 Vow (216627 words) by draechaeli
Chapters: 47/47 Rating: Explicit Additional Tags: Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence, Mainly Novel with a few CQL and Donghua bits, Somebody Lives/Not Everyone Dies, Temporary Character Death, WWXs dead for a lot of this, but he’s having fun, BeliefGod!WWX, Original Children Characters – Freeform, Adoption, Adoption but WWX birthed them all, Pregnancy Kink, Mpreg, minor male lactation, Consensual Non-Consent, Light Bondage, easy to skip nsfw chapters, brief crossdressing, Non-Graphic Rape/Non-Con, because JGS, Mentions Canon Typical Incest, Canon Typical Violence Summary: “If you’re not good the Yiling Patriarch will steal you in the night!” It was never true, in fact the first child stole herself, the second was gifted, the third begged. By the time people realised that all the homeless children of Yiling, and all the daughters about to be sold had disappeared, it became, “If you’re unloved the Yiling Patriarch will save you.” Sometimes when you make a vow not even death can release you; as Xian-Gege the Eliminator of Evil, the Protector of the Weak, and the Saviour of Children finds out.
NOTES: A fun God!WWX fic in which the vow that WY made and the belief in the Yilling Patriarch brings him back. Such a solid fic, I love the way that WY goes from hated demon to loving deity of children, women, and those in need. He does die in this and is mostly dead for a good portion of it but it is worth it for the reunion and wholesome hoard of children he collects.
7Propagate Understanding (175626 words) by draechaeli
Chapters: 34/34 Rating: Explicit Additional Tags: Somebody Lives/Not Everyone Dies, Pregnancy Kink, Consensual Non-Consent, Light Bondage, Adoption, Adoption but WWX birthed them all, Mo Xuanyu Lives, Mò Xuányǔ has an arc, Original Children Characters - Freeform, Babies for Everyone, Crossdressing, Temporary Character Death, easy to skip nsfw chapters, Implied/Referenced Rape/Non-con, Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence Summary: A-Yuan was birthed by Wei WuXian, A-Yuan called Lan WangJi ‘Father’, A-Yuan had Lan WangJi’s nose! Was it the time that Wei WuXian took his forehead ribbon at the Wen Discussion Conference Archery Competition?—he’d have to ask Brother. As a physician, Wen Qing has to suffer fools constantly; if Lan WangJi is determined to be Wei WuXian’s baby daddy, she wasn’t going to stop him, especially if it could save them all. And if it leads to some misunderstandings on the topic of marriage and propagation—well, it is not Wen Qing’s fault if Lan WangJi became the world’s best and worst matchmaker, making sure that children everywhere had parents.
NOTES: This fic premise is absolute crack! and is one of my favourite niche crack! fic themes. In which the joke "I birthed him myself" is taken literally and the cultivation world truly believes the Yilling Patriarch and Hanguang-jun had a child together. So good, bless Wen Qing in this fic honestly.
8 Bring Your Wonder (Lose Your Faith) (75406 words) by kianspo
Chapters: 12/12 Rating: Mature Warnings: Graphic Depictions Of Violence Additional Tags: Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence, Canon-Typical Violence, Different Sunshot Campaign, straight boy wei ying, Feelings Realization, everyone is slightly darkner here, hints of xiyao if you squint, but not yet, meng yao has a plan, Protective Lan Huan | Lan Xichen, Protective Wei Ying | Wei Wuxian, by which i mean they set the world on fire, BAMF Wei Ying | Wei Wuxian, it's not all tragedy i promise, Angst with a Happy Ending, Twin Jades of Lan Feels, duh - Freeform, POV Multiple, Lan Zhan | Lan Wangji Whump Summary: Canon divergence starting from after the Xuanwu Cave. What if it wasn't Wang Lingjiao who came to Lotus Pier? What if Wen Ruohan had sent Wen Zhuliu instead? The respectful, sensible Wen Zhuliu, who knows how to work the room… In which Wei Wuxian loses his hand (he gets one better), Lotus Pier is saved, the Lan Clan is said to be dead to the last man, there's a horrible banquet in Nightless City, someone accidentally plays Sleeping Beauty, and there's that awkward moment when you realize Meng Yao is the sane one (except not really). It's a dark, dark night, but the sun will rise eventually.
NOTES: This is one of my favourite BAMF WWX fics. It is VERY dark, and Lan Zhan is not okay in the majority of this fic but my goodness is it fantastic. WWX does get his hand cut off and then proceeds to be tossed into the burial mounds but his new hand and demonic cultivation are so rad. Worth it for the pain!
9 if you can't beat them, recruit them (228416 words) by moeblobmegane
Chapters: 48/48 Rating: Mature Warnings: Graphic Depictions Of Violence Additional Tags: Alternate Universe - Time Travel, Time Travel Fix-It, Conspiracy, Spies & Secret Agents, Team as Family, Found Family, Burial Mounds, Temporary Character Death, Canon-Typical Violence, Pining, Morally Ambiguous Character, Rumors, Politics, Background JZX/JYL, Developing Friendships, Good Uncle Lan Qiren, Demonic Cultivation (Modao Zushi), YilingWei Sect Series: Part 1 of wwx time travels and accidentally creates a platonic harem Summary: Rather than mourning a future that had not happened yet, he would rather work with all his might to prevent it from happening. [] His aim was to fortify his home and his family so that they would never again be left vulnerable to greedy cultivators aiming for his genius. For that, he needed help. He may be a genius, but he was not the cunning manipulative man they thought him to be. No, that was not him. He knew who was, though.   (Or: Wei Wuxian uses a powerful array to go back in time and builds a secret squad to prevent the misfortunes of the future.)
NOTES: Another fantastic time-travel fix it in which WWX post the tragic loss of his husband and son builds an array to go back. In it he befriends and recruits the antagonists of the main timeline and fixes things. This was so good- especially if you like morally grey characters and want a bit of Meng Yao and Xue Yang redemption.
10 Song Unwritten (94846 words) by ShotsOfSunshine, Kytrin
Chapters: 20/20 Rating: Explicit Warnings: Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings, Graphic Depictions Of Violence Relationships: Lan Zhan | Lan Wangji/Wei Ying | Wei Wuxian Characters: Lan Zhan | Lan Wangji, Wei Ying | Wei Wuxian, Cangse Sanren, Wei Changze Additional Tags: Temporary Character Death, Angst with a Happy Ending, Lan Zhan | Lan Wangji/Wei Ying | Wei Wuxian Get a Happy Ending, Fix-It of Sorts, Alternate Universe, cql meets mdzs, Transmigration, Parallel Universes, Yiling Laozu Wei Ying | Wei Wuxian, Alternate Universe - Yílíng Wèi Sect, Implied/Referenced Child Abuse, References to Depression Summary: Lan Wangji knew what miracles were. He'd been given one second chance for happiness already, only to have it snatched away by an enemy he could not fight -- time. Now among his husband's research, he had a chance at another one, but to seize it he would have to take matters into his own hands and fight for it. Even if that meant the fight would take him to another world. After all, Hanguang-Jun followed chaos. And when was Wei Wuxian not at the center of chaos?
NOTES: This is a transmigration fic with a morally grey Lan Zhan. After losing WY he decides not to ascend and instead uses an array for another timeline. I will say head the warnings, Lan Zhan's father is vile and there is child abuse here so pleas ehead the tags it is very awful, it does have a happy ending though. Bonus for Wei Wuxians parents being alive!
11 Time Kept Flowing (201383 words) by notoneforreality
Chapters: 35/35 Rating: Teen And Up Audiences Warnings: Major Character Death Additional Tags: Timeline? What Timeline?, Grief/Mourning, major character death is wwx, who comes back, Family, Canon Era, Autistic Character, Autistic Lan Zhan | Lan Wangji, Kid Fic, Jiang Cheng and Lan Wangji raise the kids, Co-parenting is hard, Emotional Hurt/Comfort, POV Jiang Cheng | Jiang Wanyin, POV Lan Zhan | Lan Wangji, POV Alternating, Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence, just realised 'major character death' is like most of the cast, but it all happened before the story opens, Canon-Typical Violence, Additional Warnings In Author's Note, at the top of each chapter, Golden Core Reveal (Modao Zushi) Summary: Jiang Cheng goes back to the Burial Mounds after the siege. He finds a ruined settlement and a feverish child. Then Lan Wangji turns up, half dead himself, and Jiang Cheng is not prepared for any of this. He takes them both back to Lotus Pier, because he's not leaving anyone to die on his watch, and they both need medical care. Then they just end up…staying. At least Lan Wangji is as unimpressed with the situation as Jiang Cheng is. (Jiang Cheng and Lan Zhan accidentally become co-parents and have to deal with the repercussions)
NOTES: This is the Jiang Cheng & Lan Zhan platonic coparenting fic I didn't know I needed. It was so healing and while WWX is dead for a good chunk of this he does come back. This is a fantastic fic if you want some hurt/comfort, mourning, and healing energy. I will warn it does have a lot of hurt and the Lans come under scrutiny (justifiably). But happy ending!
12 the past drifts away with the waves (58025 words) by thelastdboy
Chapters: 15/15 Rating: Explicit Warnings: Graphic Depictions Of Violence, Major Character Death Additional Tags: Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence, Fall of Lotus Pier (Modao Zushi), Major Character Undeath, Yu Ziyuan Being an Asshole, Implied/Referenced Child Abuse, Minor Character Death, Major Character Injury, Amputation, Loss of Limbs, Transformation, Alternate Universe - Merpeople, Fierce Corpse Wei Ying | Wei Wuxian, Kinda, Merperson Wei Ying | Wei Wuxian, It Gets Worse Before It Gets Better, Heavy Angst, Angst with a Happy Ending, No Sunshot Campaign (Modao Zushi), Hurt/Comfort, Emotional Hurt/Comfort, Cultivation Sect Politics (Modao Zushi), Not Cultivation World Friendly, Resentful Creature Wèi Yīng | Wèi Wúxiàn, Undead Merperson Wèi Yīng | Wèi Wúxiàn, Fanart, Slow Burn, Getting Together, Revenge, Additional Warnings In Author's Note, Resentment, Demonic Cultivation (Modao Zushi), POV Wei Ying | Wei Wuxian, River Spirit Wei Ying | Wei Wuxian, Non-Human Genitalia, Dark Wei Ying | Wei Wuxian, Depending on who you ask, Monsterfucker Lan Zhan | Lan Wangji, Wen Remnants Deserve Better (Modao Zushi), Wen Remnants Live (Modao Zushi), Lan Zhan | Lan Wangji/Wei Ying | Wei Wuxian Get a Happy Ending, Sect Leader Wen Qing (Modao Zushi) Summary: The next time Wei Wuxian became aware of his surroundings and was able to form semi-coherent thoughts, Wen Zhuliu had just finished tying weights to his feet. Both his arm and his back were still bleeding and he felt as if he had been flayed. “Should I make it quick?” Wen Zhuliu asked him, offering a small mercy. But Wei Wuxian shook his head. “Give me your worst,” he snarled, his teeth coated in blood from where he had bitten his tongue at some point. “I will come back to end you all,” he promised darkly. “Very well,” Wen Zhuliu merely said and drowned him. Or: Yu Ziyuan cuts off Wei Wuxian's hand to appease the Wens. He gets drowned in the lake behind Lotus Pier and resentful energy transforms him into a river spirit. After avenging his own death, he finds his way to Yiling.
NOTES: Very cool fic in which WY dies by Wen Zhuliu's hand and becomes a creature of resentment. He turns into a very cool undead water spirit with incredible power. He saves the wens, has a child, and gets the boy in the end. This story is for the monsterfuckers but don't let it fool you, it is kind of tragic. I swear there is a happy ending but the pain is rough.
13 Bitter Plants Bearing Sweet Fruit (83099 words) by Kryal
Chapters: 8/8 Rating: Teen And Up Audiences Warnings: Graphic Depictions Of Violence Additional Tags: canon-typical horror elements, Worldbuilding, Desert, Misuse of Historic Setting, Original Character Death(s), Case Fic, aftermath of canon, ridiculously long author notes, Because I Have Nowhere Else to Talk Headcanons, Established Relationship, Nothing Explicit But Shameless Innuendo Summary: Patience is a bitter plant that bears sweet fruit. Lan Wangji doesn't know why Wei Wuxian is so interested in traveling to a city at the very edge of the civilized world. After Yunping, what secrets could possibly be left? But the desert remembers many things.
NOTES: Not going to lie this was a really cool casefic. The husbands go on a journey to the desert and solve a mystery. The coolest part was the difference in cultivation and belief systems outside of the sects territories. This is a healing fic- fantastic vibes.
14 We Meet at the Thousandth Step (315914 words) by Rynne, Admiranda
Chapters: 44/44 Rating: Teen And Up Audiences Relationships: Lan Zhan | Lan Wangji/Wei Ying | Wei Wuxian, Cangse Sanren/Wei Changze Additional Tags: Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence, No Sunshot Campaign (Modao Zushi), Cangse Sanren and Wei Changze Live, Rogue Cultivator Wei Ying | Wei Wuxian, Alternate Universe - Different First Meeting, Night Hunts (Modao Zushi), Genius Wei Ying | Wei Wuxian, Inventor Wei Ying | Wei Wuxian, Plot, Romance, Drama, Fluff, Strangers to married, Unresolved Sexual Tension, Unresolved Romantic Tension, Alternate Universe - Everyone Lives/Nobody Dies, Developing Relationship, Minor Violence, Case Fic, Mystery, Flirting, Wei Wuxian's Canon-Typical Flower Flirting, Arson, There Was Only One Bed, Getting Together, First Kiss, Meeting the Parents, Resolved Sexual Tension, Resolved Romantic Tension, Wei Wuxian Is a Good Big Brother, New Relationship Bliss, Chinese Mythology & Folklore, Blood and Injury, Yiling siblings, Married Lan Zhan | Lan Wangji/Wei Ying | Wei Wuxian, Honeymoon, Wangxian's Baby Fever Series: Part 1 of The Different Paths We Tread Summary: As they both go wherever the chaos might be, Lan Wangji and rogue cultivator Wei Wuxian, eldest child of the famous Cangse-sanren, find their paths converging. Soon they'll discover in each other the perfect partner for night hunting…and beyond.
NOTES: A canon divergence in which Cangse Sanren and Wei Changze both live and raise WWX as a rogue cultivator (also he has a sister and it is wonderful). Lan Zhan and Wei Ying meet during a night hunt and then keep making excused to hunt together. Such a beautiful and wholesome slowburn with lots of the Wei family teasing. A healing fic for sure.
15 Dispersing Clouds (283284 words) by dreamingofcake
Chapters: 54/54 Rating: Explicit Warnings: Graphic Depictions Of Violence Additional Tags: Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence, Genius Wei Ying | Wei Wuxian, Inventor Wei Ying | Wei Wuxian, Not Jiang Family Friendly, Abusive Yu Ziyuan, Canonical Child Abuse, Hurt/Comfort, Slow Burn, Eventual Sex, Implied/Referenced Self-Harm (Background Character), Background Character Deaths, child deaths, Good Uncle Lan Qiren, Accidental Baby Acquisition, Cultivation Sect Politics (Modao Zushi), Homophobia, Heteronormativity, Feelings Realization, Wei Ying | Wei Wuxian is Not Oblivious, Jiang Cheng | Jiang Wanyin Bashing, Jiang Yanli is Not Angelic, Jiang Fengmian and Yu Ziyuan Bashing Summary: While the Wen Clan is embroiled in subduing internal conflicts within Qishan, the Jiang Clan hosts the annual discussion conference. It has been one year since the disastrous archery competition where Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji last met but Wei Wuxian remains as optimistic as ever. An unlikely friendship begins to blossom and without the looming spectres of conquest and war to strengthen his ties to the Jiang family, the trajectory of Wei Wuxian’s life changes.
NOTES: Definitely a fic if you're feeling completely angry at the Jiangs- it is definitely not in their favour. Terrible Madam yu and equally appalling Jiang family (In that they do nothing and normalize abuse). This fic does feature an absolute brilliant Wei Ying and a smitten WangXian with a bonus of the Lans actually not being terrible.
16 A Heart Undying (114855 words) by NonsensicalRambling
Chapters: 26/26 Rating: Mature Additional Tags: Undead Wei Ying | Wei Wuxian, Canon-Typical Violence, canon-typical dead things, the burial mounds, Fix-It of Sorts, Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence, Wei Wuxian probably needs a hug, the horrors of the sunshot campaign, Eventual WangXian, these boys will use their words!, No Yīn Tiger Seal, no beta - deal with it, Morally Gray Wei Ying | Wei Wuxian, Animals Eating People, Wei Wuxian's questionable choices, Morally conflicted Lan Wangji, Oblivious Wei Ying | Wei Wuxian, Wei Ying | Wei Wuxian Creates a Sect | Yiling Wei Sect, Yiling Laozu Wei Ying | Wei Wuxian, Sect Leader Wei Ying | Wei Wuxian, Lan Wangji & Wen Qing have an Understanding, if Wen Qing were being paid she'd deserve a raise Summary: No one escapes from the Burial Mounds alive. No one. Just because Wei Wuxian made it out doesn't make him an exception. He knows he's surviving on borrowed time until someone finds out, but until then he's going to make that a problem for the Wen. And if no one does find out, well, he'll figure that out later. If only he could stop being so hungry.
NOTES: Okay this fic is actually rad as hell. The premise is so cool- WWX landing in the burial mounds and DYING but transformed. If you like vampiric energy but also God!WWX vibes this is the fic for you. It moves fast but the plot is so cool.
17 Practical Considerations (96963 words) by teawater, the_anthropologist
Chapters: 20/20 Rating: Explicit Additional Tags: Arranged Marriage, Alternate Universe - Arranged Marriage, Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence, Found Family, Spouses to Lovers, Emotional Hurt/Comfort, Light Angst, Politics, Scheming, Lán Elders are assholes, BAMF Wei Ying | Wei Wuxian, BAMF Lan Zhan | Lan Wangji, eventually BAMF Lan Xichen, learning to make decisions, Learning Self-worth, Self-Esteem Issues, Sweet Wangxian, Domestic Fluff, Fix-It, JC is a big asshole, he improves somewhat but it's open-ended, WWX learns to stand up for himself, Quote: Come Back to Gusu With Me (Modao Zushi), POV wwx, POV LWJ, POV JC, Golden Core Reveal (Modao Zushi), Teacher wwx, Golden Core Transfer Fix-It (Modao Zushi), Alcohol as a Coping Mechanism, Past Suicidal Thoughts Summary: After the Sunshot Campaign Wei Wuxian is fooling around in Lotus Pier, and Jiang Cheng decides that he'd be more useful to the sect if he was to enter a diplomatic marriage. Especially since Lan Wangji seems so keen on dragging him away to Gusu. Only Wei Wuxian doesn't expect any good to come from it…
NOTES: An arranged marriage canon divergence fic in which "Come Back to gusu" is a term of endearment (but WWX does not know this). This fic goes form WWX being married and thinking he's being punished to married and absolutely THRIVING. This is one heck of a healing fic- great ending!

M, WIP, 67k, Wangxian
Summary: Before Wei Wuxian can say he will join Jiang Cheng and attend the Wen indoctrination, a letter describing the burning of the Cloud Recesses reaches Lotus Pier. Realizing the danger to the Jiang sect, he decides to stay behind to help with the defenses and keep his sect safe. While he agonizes over the fate of the disciples sent as little more than hostages, he upgrades the wards of the Jiang sect to stand against the inevitable Wen army. Lotus Pier will survive, and Wei Wuxian changes his own fate and the fate of the Sunshot Campaign. Kay's comments: A WIP, but only barely! I hope I manage to post this in time for WIP Rec Week, because tawaen updates quickly and there's only one chapter missing! I really, really enjoyed the direction this canon divergence took with Wei Wuxian staying behind in Lotus Pier during the indoctrination and making sure there's at least one person who prepares for the inevitable Wen invasion. I won't spoil much, but he's also becoming a rogue cultivator and finds his way to Lan Wangji sooner and you know, I'm so weak for that. Can't wait for the last chapter! Excerpt: “A decision on aiding the Lan need not be made now. However, our disciples will need to leave early tomorrow. A-Xian, I assume you will go with A-Cheng?” Jiang Fengmian looks over with an indulgent smile, but it is strained at the edges. Jiang Yanli turns in her seat to face him with open concern. She would send no one if that were possible. At some point during the argument she stopped peeling lotus seeds, remaining still and impassive to avoid drawing attention to herself. Her hands clench with her nails digging into her palms. Wei Wuxian didn't even notice. He gives her a reassuring smile. Wei Wuxian salutes, “Uncle Jiang, at this time, I would like to stay in Lotus Pier. We should not send our two best fighters to Qishan. One of us should remain behind in case of further Wen demands.” While Jiang Yanli relaxes slightly, Jiang Cheng turns sharply to look at him with betrayal in his eyes. This would normally make Wei Wuxian change course – but the Lan wards failed. Who is to say the Jiang wards would prevail?
pov wei wuxian, canon divergence, fall of lotus pier, inventor wei wuxian, genius wei wuxian, no golden core transfer, sect leader jiang yanli, jiang cheng has no golden core, dysfunctional jiang family, jiang family dynamics, bad parents jiang fengmian and yu ziyuan, developing relationship, friends to lovers, angst with a happy ending

So I'm ngl I followed you because my partner really likes jiggy and I am trying desperately to like. Care more about him and enjoy him because of this. I didn't read through the whole post about life debts and nmj (who for the record I think is an asshole, but an interesting one, given his complete inability to see in shades of grey morality), but I did read the reblog you added comparing some of jiggy's actions to wwx's, which I actually found really interesting. Since wwx is my poor little meow meow, I'm wondering if approaching jiggy through the lens of their similarities etc might help nudge my brain more into liking him, so I was curious if you had any recommendations for like, good meta posts or gifsets or fics that get into this more?
I suspect that part of my problem is the novel is just my least favorite adaptation even though I dislike a lot of the plot changes that cql and the donghua did, because it's hard for me to read through, but I can overcome that. Probably.
hi hello!! I know we have chatted a bit already via messages, but I am so, so, so happy any time someone expresses any interest in developing a more comprehensive understanding of jgy's character.
user meta
in terms of linking you to specific bits of meta about parallels between jgy and wwx, it might be easier for me to just direct you to specific users who have written extensively on narrative parallels in mdzs in general: @xiyao-feels has written meta based on several close readings of the text and often highlights the importance of where jgy-specific events are situated, and this often includes callbacks to things that wwx has done, too. if you're keen on deep dives into what makes jgy tick and text-based explanations for why he does the things he does (and why his options are extremely limited), you should also check out @fincalinde's meta. fincalinde and xiyao-feels both ground their analysis of jgy (and xiyao lol but you don't have to read the xiyao meta if you aren't keen on it) in what we're presented in the text, so if you're worried about reading analysis that relies too much upon 'fanon,' that won't be a concern here. @confusion-and-more is another user who writes similar text-based meta along similar lines.
fan media
I tend not to look for good parallels in gifsets, but this one by @henshengs probably draws the most powerful, bittersweet parallels between wangxian, xiyao, and the relationship between lan wangji and lan xichen's parents. it's from the donghua rather than the drama, idk if you have a preference on that front.
the fic series it's worth it every time by @fincalinde (roquen on AO3) is by far the best series imo for digging into jgy's core motivations for doing the things that he does, and it also has the benefit of hewing extremely close to events as they unfold in canon. again, it's xiyao, which may not be your thing, but imo understanding the xiyao dynamic is pretty crucial to understanding jgy, too.
...okay!! I think this is a good place to get started? I will see what else I can dig up for you, and like I said, I have a few other bits of meta in my drafts atm that are focused specifically on wwx-jgy parallels and comparisons, so once I finish and publish those, I'll ping you about it. 👍
edit: ooh, editing my post to add a link to these two pieces of wangxian and xiyao fanart by @hawberries which are intended to be viewed side by side for maximum heartbreak.

Do people really think LWJ is a sadist and WWX is a masochist?
I think they have some kinks and like a bit of roleplay. But from WWXs reaction to being spanked in the incense burner dream, he didn't seem very happy about that! And I don't think LWJ would hurt WWX :(
I think there are plenty of people who love to explore other kinks with Wangxian that they don’t have in canon, which is not really a problem for me as long as it’s tagged. Whether or not they actually think they have that dynamic I couldn’t say, I don’t really go out into the fandom wilds to see what people have to say that often.
That being said, there is an element to Wangxian’s sex life where pain does play a part. Wei Wuxian definitely doesn’t like the spanking, and he puts a hard stop to that the one time they do that.
But uh… Lan Wangji likes to bite him. A lot.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Wei Wuxian scolds him for it at first, but by the time they have sex on the side of the road, he’s discovering that he does enjoy it a lot more than he thought, to the point that when Lan Wangji bites his neck again, he comes.
He doesn’t like spanking because he finds it humiliating and like he’s being treated like a child. But he does enjoy being tied up and bitten quite a lot.
I hope this helped clarify some things!

My reading list
I do have EPUB/PDF/WORD of all this novels, so let me know if you want to read them in this format! (constantly adding new novels)
HERE YOU CAN FIND ALL MY DRIVE FOLDERS AND FILES!!!
Judged by stars ⭐ (5 stars max)~
TGCF : ⭐⭐⭐
It does not have a single smut scene which is disappointing, especially considering the predecessor novel is MDZS. If you can ignore this detail, the plot is incredible and leaves you wondering, action scenes and all conflicts are really compelling. Do not expect tons of fluff, it's quite angsty tbh. [It has a happy ending!]
MDZS :⭐⭐⭐
Very abundant in smut and fluff, it is quite comforting in that regard. Wei Wuxian is a character that I just adore, well developed and dynamic. I personally felt Lan Wangji quite flat in comparison, which did not allow me to fully fall in love with Wangxian. Well balanced between angst and comfort. [It has a happy ending!]
ERHA :⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
BRO! How do I even begin with this gem... It has everything. It is not a suitable reading for everyone due to the amount of TW it contains, dark material, situations that make your hair stand on end. The plot is completely incredible, both protagonists are so well developed that it makes you want to cry, the entire universe which encompasses this novel is abundant and rich, and the number of twists and turns makes your head explode! The amount of angst is as big as the smut, yes. I cried my eyes out with this text. [It has a happy ending!]
YUWU :⭐⭐
Based on the same universe as ERHA, it's really exciting as you read along and 2HA aspects/ components start to appear. It is basically all angst, suffering and pain for the characters, fluff moments are almost non-existent, and there are maximum 3 scenes of smut (which, compared to ERHA is... nothing). In terms of action / world building / plot, it is exquisite, there is no mistake in that regard, and the construction of the characters is delicious. Don't expect the same kind of stuff as The Husky and His White Cat Shizun (disappointing when comparing both novels)... [It has a happy ending!]
The Two Tailed Fox Demon and His Taoist Priest Gong :⭐
Super short novel of pure smut, kinda bizarre tbh, there's no plot. It's extremely simple, a text created for light (and scandalous) reading. Surprisingly, I found that the smut is not that great... the scenes feel really rushed, without a good description of the context, or development of the situation (ironic because it is a sexy novel...?)
Introduction to Sex Education :⭐⭐⭐
A really hot/smut-dedicated novel. It has many TW that must be taken into account before reading, because the type of material is not for just any reader. It can hurt the sensibilities of many consumers.
SVSSS: ⭐
I didn't connect with this novel, at all. All the actions scenes feel extremely rushed, the plot is poorly developed in a lot of aspects, and the main CP... it makes me think SQQ is only with LBH out of pity, not because actual attraction. There are no transitions between one action and the other, and it makes a lot of things confusing. I love Luo, but disappointing [it has a happy ending!]
Till Death do us Part:⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This novel is exquisite. For anyone who enjoys reading about politics, historical contexts, love, and lots of sex, this is a perfect read. There were many, many times I wanted to kill the Gong because of his toxicity... but when he realizes his mistakes and "leaves" his questionable behavior behind... IT MAKES YOU CRY SO MUCH???? The couple ends up living until they are both elderly in their 80s and die together of natural causes 😭😭😭😭😭
Living to Suffer: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
I'm only giving it one star less because it's shorter than the sequel (Till Death do us Part ⬆️), and I needed so much more of them in this oneeee. Anyways, fully complies with the standards of the previous novel, and introduces us to the CP who, depending on what order you read both texts, take place in a different context (historically speaking). It contains a beautiful amount of smut BUT IT'S EXTREMELY ANGSTY AND FULL OF PAIN, FOR REAL. [BAD ENDING!!!]
The Bird and the Golden Cage:⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
SUCH A BEAUTIFUL SHORT NOVEL!!!!! It has everything and a beautiful, sweet happy ending~ I loved every second of it, smut scenes are great, and the plot is very good too. The CP is so adorable 😭❤️
You've Got a Mail: A Cautionary Tail ⭐⭐⭐
This novel is the definition of smut with plot!!! It's full of truly horny scenes and scenarios but at the same time there's a whole plot going with it. It makes it both fun and spicy to read, and I couldn't help but to fall in love with the shou. I did hate the gong through basically the entirety of the novel, and I only liked him at the end, but yeah, overall, really good!!
Novels Available [PDF/EPUB/WORD]:
TGCF
MDZS
SVSSS
ERHA
YUWU
Dark Tales
Dog Slave
Introduction to Sex Education

3, 9, and 10 for the ask game?
Thank you for the ask!
3. What’s your favourite aspect of MDZS?
Oh gods, there is so much... How complex and well-written the characters are, their motives, their fears, and what drives them. How tight the plot is, and just the story's execution - how even with all the flashbacks it never feels jarring.
But my favourite aspect has to be, without a doubt, Wei Wuxian. Just how brilliant a protagonist he is, his ideals, his determination, his sheer strength of will. Wei Wuxian as a character inspires me to be a better person, and I think that will always be the most cherished thing I have about MDZS.
9. What’s your favourite piece of fan content you’ve consumed (metas, fanart, fanfiction, etc)?
My favourite piece of fan content... well there are fanfictions that are definitely my absolute comfort fics, and metas that gave me such brilliant analysis of the work itself. But I would say @ladypfenix's song of swords will be an all-time favourite of mine (with its sequel not far behind). It is such a beautiful piece of work and you guys should absolutely read it!
10. What do you look for in fanfiction? What do the writers have to get ‘right’, and what things will make you click away?
What will make me click away? Oh plenty, plenty of things. Especially so for fics set in canon-universe. I am much more flexible about fics that happen in AUs because I can be brought into the belief of people being different with different influences. But even then, I am absolutely staunch about Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji's characterization and also about the dynamic they share. This means none of the nonsensical fanon about WWX - conditionally smart WWX, insecure or arrogant WWX, politically inept WWX, oblivious WWX, WWX who downplays his own powers for JC or even because he is afraid of YZY, just... let him be in all his confident, powerful glory. Similarly, for LWJ, caveman LWJ makes me want to die, LWJ who is cruel to others who are not WWX, LWJ who is over possessive especially if WWX and he are not in a committed relationship yet, Manipulative LWJ, Dark LWJ are all my instant nos.
For Wangxian dynamic itself, I don't care for LWJ being the one who fixes WWX or whatever. I also don't care for LWJ being raised on a pedestal while WWX is someone who is barely worthy of him. These are common tropes I see, but I obviously don't care for the roles being reversed either.
Aside from that, for canon verse fics, I don't like abuse apologism, especially in the case of YZY. I don't care for fics that whitewash JC, JGY, XY. If they have a long redemption arc at a suitable point in the story, I could be convinced but like. It has to happen early. And there has to be a good redemption arc. But fics that act like they did not commit canon actions at all? Nope.
The cultivation world being framed as being in the right during the BM arc. I will jump away from that fic so fast-
And finally. Gui Dao is evil - or any substitute of Gui Dao in AU fics is evil - is an absolute instant no. I cannot handle it as it is almost always paired with reckless WWX/self sacrificing WWX.
I also have personal preferences regarding some side characters and only gripping plot and good WX characterization can keep me if certain pet peeves do show up.
As for what can the writer get 'right'? Well the opposite. Good WX characterization. Wen Remnants and WWX found family is always my favourite. Writing soft-hearted and timid side characters well is a personal preference I enjoy across all fandoms. I just... don't care for fics that look like it had been written by someone who knows the work through scrolling through a few posts on the net than by actually reading the book.

Hi! First, I love your blog! Whether it's detailed metas or little observations about wwx and wangxian, I enjoy it all. <3 Anyway, I was wondering what you think about lwj's reaction after drunk#2. Compared to how freaked out he is after drunk#1, he seems surprisingly chill despite finding mysterious marks on wwx's wrists(!). Is he freaking out inside but hiding it because he knows wwx will just tease him? Has their relationship progressed that he's more ok with whatever could have happened?
<3 Hi ! lol I was so excited to see this in my inbox because I do be having some thoughts on this actually !
So, firstly, I don't think the reason he appears calmer is because he's more ok with whatever could have happened, primarily because I don't think this is an aspect of their relationship progression in WWX's second life? To me, LWJ is already very unconditional in his relationship with WWX - he's already put his cards on the table so to speak, with his confession. He's already okay with pretty much anything between them, the only uncertainty to him is what WWX wants.
LWJ is, however, pretty concerned about taking advantage of WWX, which serves as a source of mild conflict (for lack of a better word) in WWX's second life, culminating in the misunderstanding between them after they have sex in chapter 95. This concern is part of the reason he reacts like that after WWX acts as if they have slept together in chapter 32, where he repeatedly enquires 'what did I do?'
'“Yesterday night, I…”'
&
'“Yesterday night, other than stealing your flute, I…”'
&
'The slight movement of Lan Wangji’s Adam’s apple was visible on his snow white neck. “…What did I say?”'
&
'After a few moments of silence, Lan Wangji was finally unable to hold it in any longer. “What exactly did I do last night?”'
The basis of LWJ's reaction here is that he's done something to WWX. LWJ is infamously reticent, so I think it speaks to how distressed he actually is about this to repeatedly ask, even as WWX brushes him off and dodges his questions.
As for why his reaction is so different after Drunk#2, part of the reason—which I spoke about this a little in this post—is that wx's dynamic is never really fixed. WWX is always coming up with new ways to tease LWJ, LWJ is perpetually learning how to deal with his brattiness. WWX himself even speaks of his little trick after Drunk#1 in this way - 'At last, after so many failed schemes where he only wound up dropping a rock on his own foot, Wei Wuxian had managed to recover some of his old skills—he had finally turned the tables. He very much wanted to press his advantage, but if he wanted to trick Lan Wangji into drinking with him again, he couldn’t let his antics cast too much of a shadow over what had occurred.'
(wwx: lan zhan, will you drink with me? lwj: ok. wwx, to himself: teehee another successful trick!!!)
So, after WWX already fooled him once under these circumstances, LWJ of course isn't going to fall for it again! Even if he's freaking out on the inside (and I think he definitely is), he would stubbornly pretend he isn't hahaha. It's also important to note that for Drunk#1, WWX stays awake the whole night scheming so he can trick LWJ as soon as he wakes up, whereas after Drunk#2, LWJ wakes up first—he has time to compose himself and assess the situation... Which leads onto the question of what exactly is LWJ making of this?
Even though LWJ was concerned about what he might have done with WWX while they were drunk the first time, when WWX asks him, LWJ is willing to drink again. The reason for this is because WWX wanted him to—not because he won't reject WWX anything, but because this signifies to him clearly that whatever drunken shenanigans may or may not have occurred, WWX is okay with it.
Looking at their post Drunk#2 interaction, it's pretty clear that despite his whining, WWX is still not at all upset, doing his little 'im so delicate' routine...
'“It hurts so much…Hanguang Jun, you were so rude when you were drunk.”
Lan Wangji didn’t even lift his gaze. “You reap what you sow.”'
It's this whining that solidifies LWJ's merciless attitude! WWX is the one who wanted LWJ to get drunk, WWX already knew exactly what drunkji is like, had even commented that LWJ is 'so wild when he's drunk~' after the first time. But it was him who asked LWJ to drink with him again regardless. He reaps what he sows! No mercy for WWX !! No poor little meow meows here, he's an unrepentant shameless meow meow!!!
Anyway, while LWJ must be immensely curious about how exactly WWX ended up with those red marks on his wrists (though he likely deduced it was from his forehead ribbon), he knows from previous experience that WWX won't tell if he asks, so he doesn't.
Final point, this might be a ~controversial~ one, but I also kind of speculate that LWJ actually remembers WWX kissing him during Drunk#2, which further formed his line of thinking from 'he did something to WWX' to 'WWX reaps what he sows'.
'What!!? But LWJ remembers nothing from when he's drunk!!!' you say. Well! during Drunk#3, LWJ says to WWX, 'Wash my face' clearly referencing the time WWX washed his face in Drunk#1. I'm not at all going to argue that LWJ remembers all drunken escapades vividly and clearly, but is it possible he perhaps retains some vague snippets? Yeah! (Also possible only drunkji has access to drunkji's memories, but I think that makes less sense?) Not only that, but after WWX kisses him, LWJ appears to 'wake up', similarly to how he does in the bath during Drunk#3. And! in both instances, LWJ puts an end to WWX's cut-sleeve antics no homo drunk bestie shenanigans, in Drunk#2, by knocking himself out, and in Drunk#3 by simply telling WWX to stop touching. The two scenes parallel each other. I also think LWJ's overall lack of surprise in response to papermanxian's 'kiss' in ch.47 (esp when compared to his completely shook drunk#2 reaction) maybe indicates that it wasn't actually the first time he'd experienced WWX doing something like that. And yes, LWJ does confirm to WWX that he doesn't remember Drunk#2—'Wei Wuxian’s heart skipped a beat. “Lan Zhan, what you did when you were drunk—you don’t actually remember, right?” “I do not.”' However! LWJ only says he does not remember what he did, it's entirely possible for him to remember WWX kissing him, and not technically be lying here. And LWJ is not above obscuring the truth but avoiding outright lies by technicalities—he does so before in chapter 30 when he tells WWX he never drank the emperors smile hidden in his room.
I think this idea is actually interesting to consider when piecing together what LWJ might be making of WWX's behaviour during his second life. Specifically wrt to the way WWX likes to hide behind facades then get up to cut-sleeve shenanigans (MXY, papermanxian, drunken escapades).
But, overall, I think LWJ's reaction after Drunk#2 was primarily 1. because he wasn't caught off guard, as he was after Drunk#1, 2. because WWX was the one who suggested they drink together the second time while fully aware of what drunk LWJ is like and 3. because he was determined not to give a reaction to WWX's shenanigans again.

Writing Update, I suppose???
So I have a oneshot story for MDZS I've called it The Ways In Which I Love You. I wanted to use some prompts to do little things, so now I've got this. XD It's halfway done at this point (go me!), and this is chapter #5.
Chapter 1: Wangxian, "Who did this to you?", T
Chapter 2: Wangxian, "You're my best friend. I've always loved you.", T
Chapter 3: Wangxian, "Oh. Oh.", G
Chapter 4: Wangxian, "Shut up." "Make me.", E
Chapter 5: Jiang Cheng & Wei Wuxian, "Then why did you do it?" "BECAUSE I LOVE YOU", T
Chapters 1 and 5 have Alternate Attempts that I made and abandoned for different reasons. They're in the sequel story, The Ways In Which I Botch Loving You.
Chapter 1: "Who did this to you" Take 1
Chapter 2: "Then why did you do it?" "BECAUSE I LOVE YOU" Take 1
I'm hoping to get the other 5 prompts out in a timely manner, but we'll see how it all goes. I currently have my rolling die python application (that I made ages ago and didn't realize would come in so handy!) open to make sure that each prompt is randomly selected when I move onto the next, and the next prompt (for anyone interested) is ''I didn't know where else to go.'' A few ideas are already bouncing around, so we'll definitely see how this goes. >:3
I have a sister story for Selling Flowers in the works, though it's gone through a couple of serious overhauls at this point. ^^; New beginnings, new endings, new consequences, new disasters, new timelines, new lots of stuff. I'm really enjoying this AU. This story just needs major tweaks in order for me to get the timeline I really want down right. What I can and will say is that it's Jiang Cheng-centric, focusing on what he and certain others were up to during what we all know had to have been a rough patch in Wei Wuxian's life. It'll touch on the past, a tic of trauma, how Jiang Cheng interacts with the Wens, his dynamic and feelings towards Wei Wuxian himself, and the Jiang family situation. I am seriously aiming big here.
I also have a story that I never released, but it runs in the same vein as To Never Forget, but sadder. Well... ish. I had a thought experiment going about Wei Wuxian, what he's been through, and his happy ending, and I wanted it to be a little more tangible than just inside my own head, so I started writing out a story. I'm hoping it'll be no more than a few chapters once I'm done with it, and I want similar vibes to what I was going for with Trapped are the Guilty, but we'll see if the years have really honed in my ability to get the effect I'm going for.
There's a slow-going HunterxHunter AU that I've been working on, but I'm currently stuck there. However, it's a non-nen AU where Gon and Killua meet when they're much older and have slightly different priorities. Gon works with Kurapika, Leorio, and Melody in an undisclosed business while setting a trap and lying in wait for Ging to come along. He's very reluctantly patient about the whole thing. Killua is with Alluka, living a...life..., and there's something... not quite right or wrong about the pair. Whatever's up, Gon is still Gon, Killua still needs a friend, and the world is a little more grey than we all want to believe it is.
Finally, there's a fluffy as heck oneshot idea that's in the works and already has a beginning kinda hammered out. It's come to Lan Wangji's attention (through Unfortunate means) that Wei Wuxian doesn't sleep as well when they are forced to part. When Lan Wangji is sent out and Wei Wuxian must stay behind, what's a man to do to ensure that his beloved husband gets the rest that he needs? The answer comes from the same source as the unfortunate revelation, and I think it's kinda funny.
So... I think that's everything. Now y'all are up to date on the thoughts of Amy. XD Or, at least, the writings she's been actively working on. Some passive stuff is going on in the bg of my computer and shall stay there for a long time. *pat pats computer*

look i never thought when i first created a tumblr account back when i was like 13 that id ever reach the point where i would be sitting down to make a post on how a fictional character being a DomTop and indulging his partners noncon kink does /not/ somehow destroy his characterisation but here i am.
so the incense burner chapters... admittedly, i can understand why theyre not to everyones taste but ive seen some wild takes on how it "destroys lwjs characterisation and boils him down to a stereotypical top" and tbh i just wanna defend lwj.
as a disclaimer, i just wanna say that personally, i think porn is one of the hardest things to translate well. like porn is already so hard to write well in the first place, so having it go through a translator is always gonna change the quality. so i feel like we should all take that into account before we start the whole "mxtx cant write porn" shit, because maybe her porn slaps but we arent getting the full experience (if any chinese speakers out there who've read the incense burner chapters in chinese wanna correct me on that, feel free to do so).
okay so the first point i wanna hit is that wwx, in contrast to popular belief, had stated his interest in CNC before the incense burner chapters even happen (i would nearly say that him bringing it up might have influence lwjs subconscious in a way). in chapter 115, wwx has a clear fantasy of what he thinks rape play should be, and tries first to insinuate it with lwj. when lwj makes no interest in being the reciever here, wwx offers himself up to which lwj enthusiastically responds.
what this scene does is basically set up a roleplay scene between two consenting parties that they eventually follow through with. an almost foreshadowing of whats to come if you will.
then we have the first incense burner dream. here we see two different vision, wwxs domestic haven and then lwjs fantasy of him and wwx in the library. now, to be fair, lwjs dream is told in a lot of detail and if youre anyway uncomfortable with noncon at all, of course you would find this a very uncomfortable read. to wwx and lwj its just a fantasy, in the same way that when wx first had sex, wwx told him that he should have just forced himself on him in the first place. its clearly a concept wwx in particular thinks a lot about.
but my point here is that lan wangji fantasising about something like this doesnt destroy his character, for the direct narrative sequence it follows, it actually makes sense that he was fantasising about this. especially when so much of wangxians sex dynamic is wwx pushing and prodding at lwjs restraint until he snaps. its clearly a dynamic they both enjoy and eagerly participate in. anyone is perfectly within their right to not like these chapters, but it also probably means you dont like wangxians sex scenes in general considering nearly all of them hold a similar tone, just not as intensely as the ones in the incense burners.
in the second incense burner chapter with a young lan wangji and an older wei wuxian, you actually see wangxian doing the bare minimum of setting up a cnc scene. wwx teases a younger lwj, unsure if its his one of just a dream one like the pervious dream. he wakes up and finds out lwj was actually playing the role of his younger self. both of them with that knowledge enter the dream a second time and then we have the infamous bichen scene.
idk i just feel like people want to make these moments into something theyre not. personally i think wangxians bedroom dynamic fits them perfectly, gay men are allowed to like topping without it being some hidden hate crime. let wangxian do their cringey role play and be freaky. god bless.

Restless Rewatch: The Untamed Episode 09 first part
(Masterpost) (More Canary Funsies)
Warning: Spoilers for All 50 Episodes!
Tumblr media
This episode features so many eternal minutes of zombie shambling that I thought I could fit everything into a single post. HA HA HA HA nope.
Zombie Temple
The trio do their best to fend off the not-zombies in the temple. Lan Wangji tells Wei Wuxian that he can’t go carving them up because they’re not actually dead, and drops a callback to their very first meeting at the gate of Cloud Recesses, when Wei Wuxian caught his attention with his pillowy lips comment on the not-dead cultivator.

Lan Wangji: You said it in that golden moment that will be seared into my memory for eternity, where I heard your voice and laid eyes on your angelic face and lost my heart forever, remember? Come on, babe, it was our very first zombie! How baked were you?
Wei Wuxian: I jerk off to the sword-fighting memory, not the zombie memory, you weirdo.
Tumblr media
Nie Huaisang’s fear of the definitely not undead has apparently gotten him the rest of the way over his fear of Lan Wangji, because he’s now yelling “Lan-Xiong!” right along with “Wei-Xiong!” as he struggles. Note that although he later mentions that his fan is made of some fancy metal, we don’t see any evidence that he wants to fight with a fan any more than he does with a blade. I don’t hate anyone’s fan-fighting NHS headcanon, but my take is that he just isn’t a physical fighter, and that’s ok.
This is a good time to remember that our entire experience of the Nie clan so far in this story is 1. Clever but hopelessly combat-unready tiny artiste Nie Huaisang 2. Quietly helpful, absurdly pretty sidekick Meng Yao.
Tumblr media
We don’t know yet that Nie Huasang’s gege and Meng Yao’s sugar daddy is literally the toughest motherfucker in the entire cultivation world. But his friends do! Which makes me love these dynamics even more, because not one of them criticizes Nie Huaisang for being the person he is.
(more after the cut!)
Never Let Me Go
This scene is where Wei Wuxian gives his tacit consent to being used as the eventual agent of Nie Huaisang’s vengeance....ok not really.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But he does make it clear what Nie Huaisang should do when he’s in a pickle. And NHS doesn’t forget things.
Tumblr media
Priorities
Meanwhile, Lan Wangji isn’t nearly as patient as Wei Wuxian, and he drops a silence spell on Nie Huaisang basically out of annoyance. It’s not like they’re trying to be sneaky.
Tumblr media
Lan Wangji: How about you have an exquisitely crafted ceramic cup of shut the fuck up?
Flute Girl
Wen Qing comes to the rescue by summoning all of the not-zombies, who happen to be her extended family, to come toast some marshmallows.
Tumblr media
She’s another person who unwisely demonstrates, where Wei Wuxian can hear her, the power of flutes over zombies.
Tumblr media
This move doesn’t seem to do anything important but it looks cool.
Brother Dynamic: Bad. Really Bad.
Jiang Cheng shows up in the temple and trolls everyone, because this is a great time for childish antics. Wei Wuxian is super happy to see him and runs over to hug him, which earns him a shoulder slam.
Tumblr media
This is a regular part of their body language with each other. Wei Wuxian covers his hurt reaction very, very quickly, with a smile that doesn’t involve very much of his face.
Tumblr media
Ow
Tumblr media
Wei Wuxian is so good at pretending his feelings aren’t hurt, he probably convinces himself.
Then he gives a too-honest answer when Jiang Cheng accuses him of...daring to enjoy himself, basically.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That’s more truth than Jiang Cheng was looking for, and he raises a hand to Wei Wuxian, who hides behind Nie Huaisang. This move is interesting because on one level it’s just clowning; obviously Nie Huaisang can’t protect WWX from anything, and WWX doesn’t need protection from Jiang Cheng.
Tumblr media
WWX can easily beat JC in a fight, as he’s let us know before. On another level, this retreat signals WWX’s harmlessness, his childlike-ness, in a semiotic dance that has been playing out for over a decade between the brothers.  NHS is taking on Jiang Yanli’s role in the choreography, this time.
All of this troubling hostility doesn’t make Jiang Cheng a bad person. He’s young and he’s still under his parents’ control and subject to their abuse at home. It takes time to develop mindfulness about this stuff and learn to treat people beneath you differently than the way you are treated.
Tumblr media
Jiang Cheng isn’t ready for that yet, any more than he is ready to say out loud that he cares about his brother.
Leave My Boyfriend Out of It
This interaction is noteworthy for Wei Wuxian defending Lan Wangji to his brother, before Jiang Cheng even has a chance to blame Lan Wangji.
Tumblr media
Wei Wuxian says that following Lan Wangji was his own idea, and then gives LWJ the sweetest, warmest smile.
Tumblr media
Lan Wangji also gets a pair of totally unearned, delighted smiles of thanks from his two besties when he lifts the silence spell on Nie Huaisang.
Tumblr media
Being mildly dickish all the time works out fine, I guess, if you only make friends with people whose brothers are legendary grouches.
Grilling Wen Qing
Wei Wuxian finally decides he’s had enough of Wen Qing’s crap, and gets slightly aggressive in questioning her.
Tumblr media
He’s not actually roughing her up but he is approaching her as a near-enemy for the first time, rather than as someone who wants to be her friend. Once Wen Qing tells him what’s up and agrees to a sort of temporary alliance, he goes back to being his normal slightly awkward self with her.
Tumblr media
I don’t romance-ship WQ and WWX, except maybe as corpse-mountain era FWB, but I do like their chemistry. And their friendship is really refreshing and interesting, based on sharing goals and working together, not on emotional intimacy. It’s nice to see people with a lot of barriers around their hearts, building a strong, trusting bond without having to actually open up very much.
The idea of perfect sharing between people is a nice one, but it’s pretty alien to many of us who are recovering from trauma, or people who just aren’t wired that way, and it’s good to see other models of friendship and love.
Tumblr media
Wei Wuxian, at Lan Wangji’s direction, parts the Red Sea drops a cage on the other 3 cultivators before going to hunt the dire birdy.
Tumblr media
Jiang Chang is, predictably, pissed off about it, in spite of Wei Wuxian’s “you’re good at this” parting words, and says, according to the subtitles, “you bastard!”
“Bastard” is a pretty specific epithet, in English. In the current century, it’s generally used to mean “asshole,” more or less. But it still does carry the meaning “of illegitimate birth,” and since The Untamed is often concerned with legitimacy it seems pretty strong for JC to use with someone who is rumored to be his own Dad’s by-blow.
Tumblr media
Let’s have a look and see what he really is calling him... 你混蛋 =  Nǐ húndàn = “you bastard” per Google translate. Wow, Jiang Cheng, you really went there, huh.
Wen Granny
Wen Qing and the others in the golden cage watch as the not-zombies try half-heartedly to get to them. Wen Qing is super sad about it, as opposed to the two guys who are just annoyed (Jiang Cheng) or scared (Nie Huaisang).
Tumblr media
The first time I saw this, it was just - oh, Wen Qing sympathizes with this poor random woman, she feels bad about what's happening, this is to show us she has a heart.
Tumblr media
Now though --  that's HER granny. Maybe not her bio-grandma but clearly a granny of her clan, who she knows well, who later cares for A-Yuan when he's a child, so may very well have cared for A-Qing and A-Ning when they were small, too. Owie.
Dire Bird Hunting
Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian run off to hunt the smoke bird together. They are quickly trapped in cool-looking fog. Kudos to the Director of Photography.
Tumblr media
They spend some time being confused and also being peak Wangxian 1.0 as they help each other out.
Tumblr media
Lost in the fog and unable to summon talismans, Wei Wuxian is mainly about checking on Lan Wangji, making sure he’s ok, making sure he’s near.  He doesn’t spare any worry for himself.
Tumblr media
(We get a rare instance of seeing an actually glowing sword here, instead of just having a character say “I saw the beams of swords!” to save money on VFX.)
Lan Wangji, meanwhile, understands the mental attack they are under, explains it to Wei Wuxian with only a little snark about Wei Wuxian’s overly busy mind, and teaches him how to handle it.
Tumblr media
Lan Wangji is super disciplined in mind, body, and sword - his fight moves don’t change, really, throughout his life, but he gets better and better at execution. Wei Wuxian isn’t exactly undisciplined, but he’s super creative and busts out a new skill in nearly every encounter. Lan Wangji sees this and is learning to make use of it.
After Lan Wangji helps Wei Wuxian overcome the confusion that is blocking his talisman use, he tells him which talisman to use.
Tumblr media
This isn’t a talisman that LWJ uses himself, it’s just that he’s paying very close attention to WWX’s battle moves, and has a great memory, so he knows which ones will work. In a pretty short timespan he’s moved from thinking like a solo swordsman to thinking as part of a team with a broad range of battle skills. Very soon, he’ll be starting to use Wei Wuxian’s talismans himself.
Tumblr media
WWX takes a hit from the flying death chain, but uses it to his advantage, as in so many encounters. He’s not just self-sacrificing--he is definitely that--but he’s also a chess player, knowing how to use a sacrifice or an injury to his advantage. Cue Lan Wangji being worried for the entire rest of his life.
Part Two is here!

CQL Rewatch - Ep 29
Tumblr media
Okay, if my kid did this, I'd be losing my mind.
Aside from that, there are a couple amazing glances between Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian. This is one of my favorite episodes from the before-times, because it has so many wangxian moments that are just...chef's kiss.
Tumblr media
I love Lan Wangji's little smirk here. Even though Lan Wangji typically comes off as a cold and severe person (pointed out by Wei Wuxian himself in the last episode), he really has a warm heart, and I think he truly enjoys bonding with A-Yuan. I find these moments so endearing, and they really do feel like a little family already. Lan Wangji has already developed a soft spot for A-Yuan, and I think it goes beyond the fact that he's someone who is close to Wei Wuxian. A-Yuan managed to capture his heart so quickly--can't blame Lan Wangji, though, that kid is adorable and sweet.
Tumblr media
Ah, the mood changes so quickly. Wei Wuxian just wants to chat with an actual friend, and then he asks the one question that totally kills the mood. This part is quite heartbreaking, as well as extremely realistic. Wei Wuxian processes the marriage announcement completely out loud: he's excited, sad, angry--the gamut of emotions. I like their dynamic, hearing Wei Wuxian go through everything he's feeling, while Lan Wangji quietly watches and listens. There isn't much he can do to ease Wei Wuxian's heart, but he murmurs in agreement when the occasion calls for it. There's such a comfort to this scene, and particularly how the two of them interact: they both feel at home with each other. There is no putting on airs on either side. In comparison, when Jiang Cheng visits, Wei Wuxian has his guard up for some of the time. He never has to do that with Lan Wangji--there is no threat, he knows that Lan Wangji would never do anything to hurt him or the Wens.
Tumblr media
Lan Wangji can't even meet Wei Wuxian's eyes as he speaks about defecting from the Yunmeng Jiang sect. That whole period was so painful in both of their lives that there's nothing he can even say. I'm sure Lan Wangji already knew what had happened with Wei Wuxian, and it probably saddened and worried him a great deal. It ultimately meant that he couldn't see Wei Wuxian anymore. Of course, Wei Wuxian has no idea that Lan Wangji has come here against his uncle's wishes and that he'll be punished for it. But I think Lan Wangji couldn't help himself. He needed to see Wei Wuxian again. He needed to know that he was okay, that he hadn't lost control, that he was alive and well and still himself. And delivering this news about Jiang Yanli's wedding, seeing how it upsets Wei Wuxian, it makes it hard for him to look him in the eye. It's always hard to watch out loved ones when they're in pain, especially when we can do nothing about it.
Gosh, and then Wei Wuxian says this unknowingly biting remark that Lan Wangji doesn't have an opinion of the marriage because he never cared about such things. Lan Wangji responds only by averting his eyes. What else can he do? He has been in love with Wei Wuxian for a long time, but is unable to act on his feelings. Although just coming to see him against his uncle's wishes is truly an act of love.
Tumblr media
So, I have to admit, I was not really looking forward to this scene, because I really don't have much to say about it. Wen Ning on a rampage sums it up pretty well. But now that I'm watching, I'm really liking the special effects here. I think they spent their whole budget on the smoke around Wen Ning, but it looks really cool. We also get to see Lan Wangji use Wangji several times, which I always enjoy, plus some talismans from Wei Wuxian. There are some really bad special effects in CQL, of course, and I've talked about them, but I think it still should be praised for where the devs went right. A lot of the smaller special effects and CGI come across really well and the actors did a good job of acting in it, if that makes sense--reacting to the talismans and whatnot. Just saying that I've seen worse in things that had much bigger budgets.
Tumblr media
And maybe it's because I hate the staged fight scene with Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng, but even the wire-fu scenes look better here. The gliding and flying around just feels a little smoother and more believable, if that's possible haha.
Tumblr media
This line has always bothered me ("Hanguang Jun, please go easy on him!") because Lan Wangji has not attacked or harmed Wen Ning at all. He's really just been doing defensive moves to keep Wen Ning from moving. But I guess her response is indicative of how the Wens have been treated by all the clans. She assumes that he's trying to kill Wen Ning, just like Jiang Cheng wanted to, just like the Jin Clan wanted to--just like they all wanted to. She has interacted with Lan Wangji very little, though, so she doesn't know that he isn't interested in the things that most clans are. Aside from that, he knows how important Wen Ning is to Wei Wuxian, so he wouldn't jeopardize that relationship just to...I dunno...earn brownie points with the other clans.
Tumblr media
I love this smile that Wei Wuxian gives to Lan Wangji. There's no gloating, no "I was right", no pride in it at all. It's joy and relief and happiness that Wen Ning has gotten his consciousness back. It's just a very warm, peaceful smile that really speaks to the person that Wei Wuxian is. This was what he wanted when he saved the Wens several months ago--he wanted to bring Wen Ning back, and now he has. It's not an expression that implies the job is done, though, there will likely be more work to do, but it feels like he can relax just a little, knowing Wen Ning has made progress.
Tumblr media
It's not until the next scene that Lan Wangji says it, "You did it." Wei Wuxian's response sounds a bit cocky at first, but then as he continues, he only speaks that it was his duty. Again, no pride attached to it at all. I think he's as stunned as everyone else.
Tumblr media
Aaaaannnnd now he's cocky.
It lasted all of a few minutes, folks, but now that age-old hubris is back and better than ever!
Tumblr media
I love how he steps closer here to ask again, "What if something happens, to you or the amulet?" As if we don't already understand how worried he is, he steps in closer to reiterate the question. Unfortunately, Wei Wuxian meets Lan Wangji's concern with scorn, as usual. Nothing can happen--it won't happen. It won't, because why? Because Wei Wuxian doesn't want it to? Because he'll deal with it when it does happen? Lan Wangji's concerns are all valid--they're valid because Wei Wuxian is dealing with something that has little precedent and they're valid because Lan Wangji loves Wei Wuxian and doesn't want to see him harmed. Part of this resistance on Wei Wuxian's part is his pride, but another, I think, is his difficulty getting close to people or rather his desire to not be close to people. He wants to keep everyone at arm's length to protect himself and to protect them.
Tumblr media
Ow, my heart hurts. "The next time a guest comes…" and he trails off, because there won't be any guests. No one will come to visit them. He has no allies, he has no family, he has nothing. It's such a humbling moment, and in a room full of outcasts, you kind of forget that Lan Wangji is in fact the odd man out. He has a clan, he has a family, he has allies. He's not alone. And he is the only one who has visited Wei Wuxian without ulterior motives. But of course Wei Wuxian realizes that this is probably the last time he'll see Lan Wangji, that he won't be able to make a habit of visiting him, that, not only will he be unable to see Lan Wangji, he also won't be able to see Jiang Yanli's wedding or see her children when they come along. Because of his choices, he has been ostracized from the larger cultivation world, and there is no going back on that.
Tumblr media
Cue the sad music. This part kills me. I don't even know if I can even do it justice by writing about it. There are so many emotions going on, so many things that are left unsaid between Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian. Lan Wangji doesn't want to leave, but he has to. Wei Wuxian knows he has to go, but looks at him one last time, hopeful that he might be able to stay. Lan Wangji has already stayed much longer than he had intended and he faces punishment when he returns to the Cloud Recesses. Lan Wangji is the one who hesitates most here. While Wei Wuxian starts walking, offering to lead him out of the Burian Mounds, past all of his protection charms, Lan Wangji is rooted to the spot. He doesn't want to leave. He doesn't want this to be the end. If only their world was different, more accepting, less greedy and less power-hungry--perhaps the situation would be completely different. Perhaps they could be together. But to Lan Wangji and probably to Wei Wuxian as well, that idea feels like a pipe dream, an imagining from the mind of a child--something that could never be.
Tumblr media
I really like the imagery here, how Lan Wangji's blue hanfu is the only thing that adds color to this dark, grey world that Wei Wuxian lives in. It's as if this place stifles life (well, it is a graveyard) and with it, all bright colors. Lan Wangji is the one that stands out, the one that doesn't belong. It's a stark reminder that he really is the outsider here--he's not one of them. Just adds to the depressing mood of this scene.
Tumblr media
In the solitude of this forest, Wei Wuxian is finally able to talk freely with Lan Wangji, finally able to say the things that I think he's wanted to say for a very long time. I think he's seeking agreement, validation, support from the person who is his best friend. I think he wants Lan Wangji to tell him that he made the right choice. And Lan Wangji doesn't give him that. I don't think Lan Wangji knows whether he made the right choice or not. What is right and what is wrong? That's a question that haunts him for the first half of the series. Was he right coming to Yiling to visit Wei Wuxian, against his uncle's wishes? According to his clan, he was wrong. According to his heart, it was the only thing to do. How do you judge a person? By what they do? By what others say? No, only by what your heart tells you. His brother told him that (I'm paraphrasing, forgive me) years ago. This scene is particularly poignant and painful because there is so much uncertainty. Both of them are doing the things that seem right to them, trying to navigate the world in such a way that they hold true to those oaths they took when they were teenagers. I think Wei Wuxian believes his actions were right, but it's hard to believe that when the world is telling you they were wrong. And Lan Wangji is dealing with the same thing: he believes in Wei Wuxian when the rest of the cultivation world says he is a villain, not to be trusted.
Tumblr media
Oh, god, that look of "I'm trying to smile, even though I was about to cry a second ago." This part simultaneously warms and breaks my heart. A-Yuan is so adorable, asking Lan Wangji to stay for dinner, and it's terrible watching Lan Wangji, who desperately wants to stay, refuse him. It breaks his heart to do it, but he has his own path, as Wei Wuxian tries to explain.
Tumblr media
Oh, oh oh oh oh oh, I can't!!!! Wei Wuxian wants him to stay so much! That hopeful look. Maybe he'll stay just a little bit longer. It kills me. And Wei Wuxian's little sad smile and nod afterwards. Of course he knew the answer. Of course Lan Wangji wasn't going to stay. He was foolish for even thinking he might stay. But there was that tiny little flickering flame of hope, before it was snuffed out by cold, harsh reality. And as Lan Wangji walks off, Wei Wuxian looks back one last time, hoping for a glance of him, maybe hoping Lan Wangji will have turned around.
Gosh, I just thought of how this scene parallels the end a little bit. Both of them walking off, turning towards their own paths in life. In this scene, they part seemingly forever. In episode 50, Lan Wangji does come back. Now I feel like crying!
Tumblr media
Does Wei Wuxian know that A-Yuan is a human and not a cat? XD
Tumblr media
And of course Lan Wangji had the same problem Wei Wuxian had: he didn't want to leave. He wanted to see him just a little longer, even if it was from a distance, even if Wei Wuxian thought he was already gone. I think it's important for him to know that Wei Wuxian is going to be okay. He wants to know that he's being taken care of. He wants to know that he'll be happy. But like Wei Wuxian says, he too has his own path to walk. He on the broad, crowded avenue in the cultivation world, and Wei Wuxian on the single-log bridge, isolated from everyone else.
Tumblr media
I can't really imagine the amount of guilt that Wen Qing must be feeling. Because of her and her brother and her clan, Wei Wuxian has had to give up his life. She feels responsible for this, it seems. Because of them, Wei Wuxian won't ever be able to return to the Cloud Recesses and see his friend. Because of them, Wei Wuxian won't be able to go to his shijie's wedding. And what else is he giving up because of them? Obviously Wei Wuxian is a big boy and is capable of making decisions on his own, but when you're in a position like Wen Qing, you can't help but feel guilty. Even after this lavish dinner (with alcohol, which was probably a mistake), even though the Wens showed how much they appreciate Wei Wuxian, he's still unhappy. His life isn't whole. It's a credit to her integrity that she repeatedly tries to get him to leave and go back to the cultivation world. She doesn't want him to suffer for them. She doesn't want to be a burden.
Tumblr media
Iconic scene. Powerful scene. And all it is is Lan Wangji kneeling in the snow. They don't make it clear in the show, but if I remember correctly, in the novel Lan Wangji walks right up to his uncle (or some other authority) and says he needs to be punished. He knows going to Yiling to see Wei Wuxian was wrong, according to his clan. He knows he wasn't supposed to consort with Wei Wuxian at all. But he's not willing to let any kind of punishment stop him.
If it's at all possible, this scene tugs at my heartstrings even more with the scene of Lan Qiren scolding Lan Wangji still fresh in my mind. And if I'm thinking about that, no doubt Lan Wangji is too. He knows his uncle is worried, but the problem is, no one else knows Wei Wuxian like he does (except perhaps Jiang Yanli). His uncle doesn't understand that Wei Wuxian is not evil or a villain or someone to be avoided. But Lan Wangji can't explain this, he can't argue--he can only follow his heart and suffer the consequences when he strays from his preordained path.
I saw this post a while back (sorry I don't remember who you are, but if you're reading this, good catch!) that pointed out how it wasn't even Lan Qiren that relieved Lan Wangji--it was some other disciple, some faceless, unnamed disciple who we've never seen before. Lan Qiren's disappointment and shame is so high, that he can't even be the one to tell his nephew that the punishment is over. And even if that makes sense, we don't even get Lan Xichen doing it. Of course, it's possible Lan Xichen is off somewhere else, but I don't think it's unreasonable to guess that even he is a little disappointed in his brother or has been told not to interact with him while he's being punished.
Tumblr media
Oh, my gosh, I don't remember this part at al, but all I can think is it's arts and crafts time with Wei Wuxian! I mean, this stuff is all necessary to show that Wei Wuxian has made a name for himself--he's now the infamous Yiling Laozu--so infamous that people are pretending to be his disciples! It's all played for comic relief and I think it goes on a bit too long. Honestly, if they had just shown the men talking in the tea house, that would have been enough. But I do think it's fun that they have included Wei Wuxian working on his inventions.

9 "I birthed him myself!" WangXian Mpreg Fic List
This list was asked for by @yiling-laozu-is-loml but is open to all!!
Note: This list is made up of tried and true fics, meaning I have read them all and loved them. If you would like a specific rec list- send me a DM! I love putting together personalized lists. If you are shy, you can send anon too.
The ask:
Must have Wangxian Mpreg (they are the biological parents**!)
BottomXian only
no yin iron plot- book canon only
** okay, so yes, most of these - 6.5/9 (6.5 because there's a fic with mpreg but does the dream universe count?) - have them as the biological parents BUT I do have two fics that take the "I birthed him myself" gag and run with it (Read: the cultivation world truly believes Wei Wuxian birthed Lan Wangji's child).
Enjoy!!!

He knows his family—particularly the elders—are upset about it, but Lan Wangji will not marry someone he does not love. Or, huli jing Lan Wangji curses himself to be trapped in his fox form until his soulmate comes along to free him. Enter, Wei Wuxian.
NOTES: I ADORE this fic. I love any fic in which Madam Lan is alive and well and we have mythical hybrids. This one is so damn sweet, honestly good on Lan Zhan for setting his boundaries and sticking to them. The mpreg is really a little bonus (a/b/o pregnancy), it is mostly these two Huli Jins falling in love in a sweet little slowburn.
2 A Thousand Paths, a Single Mountain (138898 words) by RohansEarings
Chapters: 23/23 Rating: Explicit Characters: Lan Zhan | Lan Wangji, Wei Ying | Wei Wuxian, Original Child Character(s), Original Characters, Lan Huan | Lan Xichen, Lan Jingyi, Lan Yuan | Lan Sizhui, Jin Ling | Jin Rulan, Nie Huaisang Additional Tags: Post-Canon, Established Relationship, Domestic Fluff, Fluff and Angst, Mpreg, Miscarriage, Fertility Issues, Guilt, C-Section, Period-Typical Homophobia, Trauma, Smut, Anal Sex, Oral Sex, Porn with Feelings, Happy Ending, Hurt/Comfort, Crying, Hugs, Slice of Life Summary: Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji decide to settle down and start a family. It's harder than they thought it would be, but they're not alone in getting through it. They have each other.
NOTES: This story is lengthy and does have a good ending but getting there is very hurt/comfort. This features handwavy cultivation magic male pregnancy but as a last resort. A CW for homophobia (wangxian wants to adopt but because they are cutsleeves there is discrimination) and pregnancy loss that causes the characters significant distress. I do promise a happy ending though! The focus is very much mpreg of this story.
3 Vow (216627 words) by draechaeli
NOTES: okay you might be asking, "how do you have an mpreg story when the main character is dead basically the entire fic" I do not answer the question but I do respond "GodWWX/accidental God of Children- Xiangege". This story is very sweet and takes so many twists and turns. Lan Zhan is the most dedicated partner omg. At times it has very crack fic energy (enter the most bizarre dream scape pregnancy and wedding), but I promise it's a good read.
4 To Love And To Lose (and to gain again) (7979 words) by PotterheadAvengerDemigod
Chapters: 2/2 Rating: Not Rated Additional Tags: Alpha/Beta/Omega Dynamics, Alpha/Omega, Alpha Lan Zhan | Lan Wangji, Omega Wei Ying | Wei Wuxian, Omega Verse, Parent-Child Relationship, Adopted Children, Cute, Hurt/Comfort, Emotional Hurt/Comfort, but i hope you guys like it anyway, honestly im not sure what to tag this, its just a self-indulgent fic where i get very confused with myself Series: Part 1 of Blue Blood Summary: Wei Wuxian wishes that he’d told Lan Wangji about the child. Maybe Zhenli would still be alive, then. The Gusulan Sect wouldn’t have let a child of one of their twin jades be killed, even if his mother was the Yiling Patriarch himself. /OR/ The self-indulgent one where I create a Wangxian lovechild and go nuts.
NOTES: This fic says it's under 10k words BUT it is part one of a 21 part series. In which WY has Lan Zhan's biological child (OC) as well as adopts a-yuan. Canon still happens and WY comes back. It has some angst, it has some fluff, and it has a happy ending! The other parts also contain an au of this au with a fix it- so if that interests you there is a LONG read ahead.
5 All I Want (47042 words) by Selenay
Chapters: 7/7 Rating: Explicit Additional Tags: Alternate Universe - Modern Setting, Alternate Universe - No Powers, Mpreg, Post Holiday Romance, Consequences, Reunions, Idiots in Love, wangxian attempt to be sensible adults about it, they are very bad at it, Teacher Wei Ying | Wei Wuxian, Rating earned in later chapters, Handwavey Biology Summary: Wei Ying leaned a little closer. "The conversation we're having right now is about how it turns out I'm a bearer and we weren't careful and I'm not expecting anything from you, but now that you're here you should know that I'm…ah…you know…" "Pregnant," Lan Zhan said mechanically. "Pregnant," Wei Ying agreed. "You knocked me up, Lan Zhan. Sorry."
NOTES: A modern au with hand wavy biology. Lan Zhan, on a trip, knocks up WY unknowingly- finds him again later. WY sure is pregnant and Lan Zhan is definitely the father. The pining and miscommunication is so wild in this fic but the ending is solid!
6 Tied To The Ocean (51086 words) by NebulusCharlie
Chapters: 9/9 Rating: Not Rated Characters: Lan Zhan | Lan Wangji, Lan Huan | Lan Xichen, Wei Ying | Wei Wuxian, Madam Lan (Modao Zushi), Uncle Qiren A-Yuan Additional Tags: MerXian - Freeform, Mermaid/siren AU, Happy Ending, Fluffy Times, No Angst, eventual domestic bliss, First Kiss, Dating, Swimming, Identity Reveal, Tails, Mpreg, Merji, have to update the tags because things happened, Wedding, Children, Found Family Summary: Lan Zhan goes to visit his mother who lives by the sea. He gets swept away by the currents and MerXian saves him. But who is this boy-fish?
NOTES: This is the cutest story :'3 a little bit of Whump with Lan Zhan and his mom's relationship. it has mpreg, it has a wedding, it has supportive uncle lan qiren, includes wei yings parents(!!!!), AND it has mermaids!!! Super sweet, a little bit sad at times, but mostly sweet.
7 The Winner Takes It All (46781 words) by YilingSani
Chapters: 14/14 Rating: Mature Characters: Wei Ying | Wei Wuxian, Lan Zhan | Lan Wangji, Lan Yuan | Lan Sizhui, Lan Qiren, Lan Huan | Lan Xichen, Lan Jingyi, Jin Ling | Jin Rulan, Jiang Cheng | Jiang Wanyin, Wen Qing (Modao Zushi), Wen Ning | Wen Qionglin, Nie Huaisang, Mo Xuanyu Additional Tags: Modern AU, Single Parent Wei Ying | Wei Wuxian, lan zhan doesn't know he has a son, Old Friends, One Night Stands, No Smut, Angst with a Happy Ending, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder - PTSD, Panic Attacks, Forgiveness, Second Chances, Inspired by Mamma Mia! (Movies), Teen Pregnancy, Mpreg, mention of miscarriage, Birth Trauma, amniotic fluid embolism Summary: "Wei Ying doesn't know why he ended up on this exact island. All he knows is that he's scared, alone and hungry. And with a child." ----- 18 years later Wei Yuan has grown into a proper young man, helping his Baba to run the hotel on the island. On the week of his wedding, Wei Yuan comes across Wei Ying's diary and decides to invite the man mentioned in it to the island, unaware of the consequences it will bring.
NOTES: The Mama Mia! AU I didn't know I needed. This story was incredible- light angst (but still some) and a relationship that finally comes together. It really follows much of the plot and A-Yuan is getting married! Who is his dad though....(jk it really can only be Lan Zhan).
BONUS FICS: "I birthed him myself!" (not really, but the cultivation world needs better sex ed).
8 Propagate Understanding (175626 words) by draechaeli
Fic is finished at 34 chapters and about 175,000 words. But as I read through before posting chapters those numbers may fluctuate.
NOTES: I honestly may have already shared this fic but I'm not even upset by it because poor Lan Zhan LOL. Also Wen Qing deserves an oscar for her performance; the fact that the entire cultivation world truly believes Wei Ying birthed a-yuan, Lan Zhan's biological son is WILD. A fic about saving the wen's through the worlds biggest (but best) misunderstanding.
9 Assumptions (50943 words) by draechaeli
Chapters: 9/9 Rating: Teen And Up Audiences Additional Tags: Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence, Mainly Novel with a few CQL and Donghua bits, Somebody Lives/Not Everyone Dies, Adoption, Adoption but WWX birthed them all, not mpreg, Not Established Relationship, But Shh… don't tell anyone, Fluff, Canon-Typical Violence, Fix-It, gender non-conforming titles Series: Part 1 of Induction Summary: The sects vote to use an array to spy on the Burial Mounds. The Jins want to show the evils of the Yiling-Laozu, the Jiangs hope everyone will see Wei WuXian the radish farmer. Lan XiChen felt guilty and sent Lan WangJi on a night hunt. They make assumptions when they see Wei WuXian having lunch with Lan WangJi and a toddler in Yiling. And sometimes assumptions don’t make an ass out of anyone, but save everyone.
NOTES: This is literally one of the funniest fucking things I have ever read. I am not even exaggerating. These two weirdos are over there being their adorable mpreg kink selves not knowing they are being watched by every great sect, their leaders, and the gods themselves in a live broadcast. This fic ft's Lan Qiren qi deviating in a corner, Lan Xichen and Jiang yanli planning a shotgun wedding, contracts flying across the room, lots of yelling, and Jin Guangshan having a VERY bad day. 100/10 recommend.

All will be well when the day is done

Summary: The one where Yu Ziyuan time traveled but she thought that it was her visions of her alternate life. She learned that there is a brat named Wei Ying who brought destruction to her and her family's life. And so in her present, she vowed that she will never allow that to happen. In which Yu Ziyuan found the four-year-old Wei Ying, newly pushed out of the inn where his parents left him, and decided that no, this child must never be associated with her, her family, and their sect at all. And so Yu Ziyuan thought that she could bring him somewhere where someone may or may not find him but definitely far from where her husband could find him. If he's lucky, he'll survive that winter, if he's not, then death awaits the fevered child. This is the extent of mercy that Yu Ziyuan could give a child. With this, she'll raise her children without having to deal with a brat that brings trouble where he goes according to her visions of her alternate life. Like the tag stated, this is definitely not Yu Ziyuan centric. Kay's comments: One of my go-to stories when I feel spiteful towards the Jiangs and just want to see Wei Wuxian thrive and be loved, as he deserves. In this story, we have time-travelling Yi Ziyuan, who promptly ditches Wei Wuxian once she's back, but luckily, he gets found by the Lans. He grows up in Gusu and changes the life there for the better. I really enjoyed how the Butterfly Effect played out here and how this story showed just because you time-travel, doesn't mean that things play out in your favour and things definitely don't play out in Yu Ziyuan's favour :> Excerpt: Lan Zhan's earliest memory was when he went to visit his mother once a month in the Gentian House together with Lan Huan starting when he was three and his brother was six. Their mother would open the door and welcome them in her arms. They would spend the whole afternoon with her until it was time for their uncle to fetch them. Then when he turned five, he was not able to see his shufu for a couple of months. It was Elder Nainai, the Elder in charge of the nursery who accompanied him and Lan Huan to go and see their mother. He learned that his shufu was always in the medical pavilion. Gossip is forbidden but he heard that his shufu brought a child after he went to Caiyi a few months ago. Later on, their mother opened the door and welcomed them to her embrace as always. When they entered, seated on Liu Meiyue's cushion was a child. "His name is Wei Ying. He is four and will turn five next month. He will live with us here in Cloud Recesses from now on," his mother said as she fixed his and Lan Huan's forehead ribbons.
pov alternating, canon era, canon divergence, fix-it, time travel, butterfly effect, time traveller yu ziyuan, jiang family bashing, jiang family dynamics, madam lan lives, sect leader nie lives, accidental baby acquisition, wei wuxian goes to gusu, non-yunmeng wei wuxian, lan wangji/wei wuxian gets a happy ending, wei wuxian isn't adopted by the jiangs, no sunshot campaign, unreliable narrator

Bingqiu-Adopted!WWX :
A Guide on Parenting a BL Novel Protag by BingQiu by anatheme (75K, Not Rated, WIP - 17/20)
(Bingqiu-Adopted!WWX, Fix-It, No System, Fluff, Crack, OC bingqiu and moshang kids who play vital roles in fucking up the plot and raising wwx, Pining!WWX, Oblivious!WWX, Misunderstandings, Crush to Best Friends to ???, Soft Sweet Tender Wangxian, Kinda Royalty AU but not focused on it)
First, find the protagonist. Second, adopt him. Third, provide the protagonist with the loving and supportive family he deserved. Fourth, face slap the villains away before canon timeline happened because canon was already an angsty shitshow. Fifth, let the protagonist meet the main lead and watch their romance bloom in real life.
Thousands of years passed after the conclusion of the main storyline and Cang Qiong Mountain Sect's disbandment, their tales had long been forgotten and only tidbits remained as new sects rose to replace them.
While enjoying their happy ending without the SYSTEM blaring out orders and deducting points left and right, it should be easy for experienced transmigrator and already a parent to three Immortal Peak Lord Shen Qingqiu and his husband, Demon Emperor Luo Binghe, to raise a baby A-Ying whom they saved from the streets.
'Til the Sun Grows Cold by xnemone (73K, Mature)
(Bingqiu-Adopted!WWX, Pre-Canon for MDZS, Post-Canon for SVSSS, Childhood Friends, Childhood Trauma, Mutual Pining)
Long after Cang Qiong Sect was burned to ashes and the world had all but forgotten demons, there lived an immortal who had not ascended to the Heavens and a Demon King who stood beside him. They taught a small sect, powerful in their few numbers in a world where a new reign of great sects conquered the region. Though they did not hunt for title and gain as the four great sects did, their name held weight to the kingdom’s people. Those protected by Master Shen and Lord Luo live lives free of fear.
When the child raised as the lords’ own son is sent abroad to appease a tyrant, there is little anyone can do but pray for mercy on those who would dare hurt a hair on little Wei Wuxian’s head.
His fathers are not the forgiving type.

[New Mission – Parenting] by Forgotten64  (90K, Mature, WIP - 18/?)
(Bingqiu-Adopted!WWX, Post-Canon for SVSSS, Kid!WWX,Found Family, OP!WWX)
Centuries have passed by and Shen Qingqiu and Luo Binghe are living peacefully up in the mountains. The once proud and strong peak sects no longer exist but have been replaced by cultivation sects. One day when the two immortals wander down their mountain into a small village is when Shen Qingqiu hears a voice he hasn’t heard in years. The annoying Google translate voice of the System!
[New Mission: The Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation… Do you accept?]
In which Shen Qingqiu and Luo Binghe obtain a child known as Wei Ying. Chaos ensures
Destined by KNBSnkLover (35K, Explicit, WIP - 7/9)
(Canon Divergence, Drabble Collection, Modern AU, Fantasy, AU, Soulmates AU, Reincarnation, Sibling Incest, Angst)
A series of drabbles featuring Shen Yuan and Luo Binghe as the adoptive fathers of Wei Wuxian. In each and every lifetime, Wei Wuxian is welcomed into a loving home and fated to be their son. However, it seems like that Wei Wuxian is also destined to be with Lan Wangji in every reincarnation as well. Regardless of the universe, can Wei Wuxian's fathers accept Lan Wangji's love and possessiveness of Wei Wuxian, no matter where that possessiveness may lead them?
{Some stories will feature Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji as brothers} Ratings will vary per story from G to E.

Hualian-Adopted!WWX :
A Morning of Fallen Stars by constellationqueen  (100K, Mature)
It's common knowledge in the Heavens that gods are not supposed to interact with humans outside of answering prayers, and they're definitely not supposed to show up in person and talk to a child. But Xie Lian isn't afraid of breaking rules that he's already broken, so he does it anyway. In fact, he takes it one step further and brings the child home.
Basically, Wei Wuxian's parents died in a night hunt when he was five, but he ends up being adopted a year later by a god and his ghost king husband, so it's not all bad.... In fact, it's probably better than it should be.
(Welcome to one of the rare times I try to avoid angst as much as possible. Wei Wuxian deserves happiness and I will give it to him.)
*~discontinued after chapter 15/outline summary of the remainder in chapter 16~*

Love Like You by HisRedEmpress (72K, Teen, WIP - 10/15)
(Hualian-Adopted!WWX, Post-Canon for TGCCF, Kid!WWX, Found Family, Love At First Sight, Heavenly Officials and Ghost Kings alike wrapped in Wei Ying's fingers,
Wei Wuxian is spoiled, much more than jiejie's betrothed, Jin Zixuan. The difference between the two is Jin Zixuan is arrogant about it, while Wei Wuxian is oblivious to the boundless extent he can get away with everything he does.
Jiang Cheng is so thankful Wei Wuxian sees him and jiejie as his family.
With that, Jiang Cheng can be assured that if Wei Wuxian decides he wants to have the world, he and jiejie will sparingly be safe when his Supreme Ghost King father and Heavenly Martial Emperor father, not to mention his other Ghost King uncle and grandfather, heavenly official uncles and aunts plus wrath level ghost uncles and aunts, would turn heaven and earth upside down just to give him what he wants.
(or the one where baby Wei Ying is adopted by Hualian)
let this soul be your whisper by merthurlin  (19K, Teen, WIP - 5/?)
(Hualian-Adopted!WWX, Post-Siege of the Burial Mounds, Post-Canon for TGCF, Kid!WWX, Found Family)
“I think…” Xie Lian says slowly, not taking his eyes off the bag. “I think I knew this person. Who this soul used to be.”
He can hear Hua Cheng suck in a breath. “Gege, maybe it’s better if you don’t—“
But Xie Lian ignores him, and reaches out with one trembling hand to touch the bag. A second passes, and then another, and Xie Lian almost lets out a breath in relief, before he feels something in the bag reaching back.
“A-Ying?”
-
Once upon a time, Xie Lian took in an orphan, and gave him a home and a family. Twenty years and a godhood later, he finds he still has more in him to give.
