#And I think a good arc for her to have had was her realizing she didn't always need to be the 'okay' one.

also personally think that ekko would have really liked isha, actually. she was scrappy and independant similarly to how he was when he was younger, alongside being a young inventor (in how she fiddles with jinx's inventions / knows how to use them herself). i think he would have seen a lot of himself in her, especially in the fact that she had no one to rely on before she stumbled upon jinx.
now, when it comes to jinx in relation isha and how that affects ekko's view of her, let's assume that this scenario is taking place in a space of time where ekko hasn't been sent to an alternate universe by the hexcore, but also happens before isha sacrifices herself.
ekko hasn't come to the realization that there's a universe where powder can grow into someone good, nor has he moved past his own failures that would have resulted in him metaphorically killing powder in his universe (i'm speaking specifically about the idea that ekko would have blamed himself for the events of arcane s1 act1 because it was his gossip that sent them to jayce's apartment which snowballed into this show).
i think rather than coming to the realization that powder was never truly gone and jinx replaced her through the time he spends with alternate universe powder, he comes to this conclusion after seeing the way isha draws out this softer side from jinx. in this, he sees firsthand that she's not solely an agent of silco committed to causing trouble in the undercity, but also still carrying that softer part of her he thought he had indirectly killed off almost six / seven (not sure how long between s1act1 and s2) years ago.
so through her interactions with isha that ekko would witness in a world, where, say for example, he comes along with vi and jinx to help vander, he would have that same sort of arc he experienced in the alternate universe where he sees jinx past the weapon she was made into and can start to forgive himself for what he believes he was responsible for + start viewing jinx in a different light because he sees evidence that she's changed in this timeline.

Very well put.
For discussion purposes, I will put out there that watched the show for the first time this year (2024), and I kind of felt like I couldn’t even get onboard with the “Will embraces his dark side, as a metaphor for queerness” arc.
Like. I could see it. But I just… couldn’t accept it?
Sort of like how Will (at least in my extremely selectively-focused, and sometimes contratextual, interpretation), could never quite accept Hannibal’s murdering.
I never would have thought of it as a Wildean sensibility (honestly, I had to read that part several times before I realized it wasn’t some kind of a Dean Winchester / Supernatural reference), but you did a good job describing what you meant by that, and that metaphorical device feels very familiar to me.
I think that would have been something I would’ve been a lot more open to in the late 90s / early 2000s; but now, it just feels… a bit edgelordy. And a bit trite. Too easy, almost.
I don’t know if that’s because times have changed, or if it’s just that I have. Maybe a bit of both.
But I think I have a desire to dig beyond the metaphor and actually explore the character’s psychologies in a more detailed and reality-grounded way, at least in longer-form content like a television show / fanfics.
(Also, quick disclaimer- I certainly don’t think all queer media needs to be “positive queer representation”, and I certainly wouldn’t expect a show based on Thomas Harris’ ‘Hannibal the Cannibal’ to be positive queer rep. This was never built to be the kind of media you show your religious mother-in-law when she unexpectedly starts becoming more open-minded as her siblings and adult niblings fall into Q-Anon. This show would give her an aneurysm, and that’s fine; it’s not for her.)
This is gonna sound like a morality cop sentiment without the context that I am a person who is deeply enthusiastic about the aestheticized, eroticized violence of NBC Hannibal. But with that context in mind… I often find myself deeply put off by how violence is handled in fanfic, particularly post-canon fanfic.
Because Hannibal is a very dark show. It is thematically centered on the darkness that resides in all human beings, as embodied by the irresistible black hole that is Hannibal Lecter - a theme that most obviously manifests in Will Graham’s corruption arc, but also in subtler, more mundane ways with characters like Alana Bloom and Jack Crawford, who keep repeating their mistakes despite their self-awareness. And it’s a very nihilistic show, concerned not with ethics but aesthetics, with the pursuit of beauty in the absence of moral scruples.
And yet, violence and death always feel significant on this show. Despite (or perhaps because of) the frequent surrealism and black comedy in their presentation, they feel as if they have gravitas. And that’s precisely because of the show’s aestheticism. The corpses we see are so exquisitely mounted, and presented with such deliberation and intention, both in-universe and in the show’s cinematography. And thus these deaths feel as though they have weight, as though they mean something - even if the only meaning we derive from them is that they look beautiful, if ghastly, or that they convey cinematic symbolism.
But there is so much Hannibal fanfic where the violence feels so… disturbingly banal to me. Where the deaths don’t have any narrative weight and are completely trivial to our main characters. And this is imo completely out of keeping with even Hannibal Lecter’s own philosophy on the show, when he says that life is precious - not because he places particular value on life’s preservation for its own sake, but because he fully understands the gravity of what he is doing. His arrogance and sense of superiority is contingent on the understanding that the taking of a life is a serious thing, and a transcendent thing. Not flesh and blood, but light and air and colour. And I don’t see much light and air and colour in the kinds of fics that I’m talking about.
This is all very much entwined with the fact that a lot of these representations of violence seem to be bound up in the understanding that the show, and Will’s arc, is subtextually queer. And it absolutely is. But I often get the sense that these representations of violence, and the relationship between Will and Hannibal, are trying to overlay them with a very 2020s Positive Queer Representation approach, wherein Will and Hannibal’s love is misunderstood by the world, and thus their violence, as the symbol of their transgression, has to be portrayed and received by the audience an unalloyed good.
And this feels hard to explain, because of course this is a show that is very much about the pleasures of transgression. And it invites the viewer to share in that pleasure, in all the aforementioned ways. It’s drawing from a very 19th century Wildean mode in that regard - a sensibility that irreverently collapses all transgressions into one, and deliberately refuses to differentiate between the morally repugnant and the merely socially unacceptable. And that is very powerful as an engine for queer subtext, as it takes the very real feeling of being corrupt and tainted and wrong and leans into the seductive glamor of that corruption, rather than attempting to counteract that narrative (in ways that can feel, when in the throes of internalized homophobia, shallow and artificial).
But, within Hannibal, that thrill of transgression is inextricably bound up in horror. The pull of violence - and the bond it engenders between Will and Hannibal - is irresistible, but it is also a source of deep seated pain and terror. And those things are fundamentally not separable. There’s a sublimity to violence, and to desire, on this show - pleasure and pain, wonder and horror, are intertwined.
And a lot of the portrayals of violence-as-transgression as symbolic of queerness in fanfic just don’t grasp this. There’s an attempt to paper over the horror and the sublimity of the violence, and how it serves the queer symbolism. It always strikes me as though writers grasp that symbolism, but are trying to fit it into the mold of representation-as-a-means-of-social-advancement. It never lands for me and it leads to the aforementioned callous disregard for life that I just find distasteful. Which is not to say that I think portraying violence and murder in a manner that strikes a similar note to the show is an easy needle to thread - certainly not. (Not the least because it’s hard to translate the show’s visual language to writing.) But it is something I notice and that breaks immersion for me very quickly.

Eye of the Pheonix is actually one of the best merlin episodes because:
merlin and Gwen besties shenanigans; “what’s he actually thinking about” “you”
cold open to the most tender merthur scene
Merlin sleeping outside all knight for arthur
Hiccuping scene and arthur getting so annoyed
“But the perilous lands are… perilous”
“The task is meant to be completed alone and unaided” the start of the best continuing joke of all time
Putting the rest under a cut cause it’s long
Little morgwen moment in the market i love (one of the last we get….)
Cute arthur and gwen scene! Hehe
This is just the shipping episode of all time everyone wins
“You’ll need help” and the first thing merlin does is go find gwaine
smiles “hello, gwaine” “ah, merlin :)”
Immediately puts an arm around merlin
Throws merlin off a roof. this is what merwaine is all about :)
Gwaine is still Gwaine and not whatever the writers did to him after becoming a knight
Bridge guy (Grettir) is great and Arthur’s “no I’m prince arthur of camelot” i love you you’re so dense sometimes
“You need strength and magic” and then gwaine and merlin come along and NO ONE seems to think two seconds more about the implications
“ive been to almost every tavern” “so have i” you’re telling me merlin spent all that time looking for specifically gwaine to help him when he knows arthur is in danger
ANOTHER MORGWEN SCENE (ik morgana just wants her to leave) but we weren’t completely robbed
Arthur not realizing that he feels like shit and thinking hmm that’s weird, this is THE dense, damsel in distress arthur episode
Gwaine is two feet away are you really telling me he didn’t hear bridge guy call merlin Magic
“Strength has arrived the trio is complete” immeidate sword draw
But also the establishment of them as a trio i really love and they never did anything else with it
Gwaine with the flowers :))
THE ENTIREY OF THE FIRE SCENE
*THE* MERWAINE SCENE EVER
“a pheasant” gwaine please
“Why do you want to do this?” cause he’s in love with you merlin
“Same reason as you” (hesitates) (eye contact) “help a friend”
“arthurs lucky to have us”
…
“not arthur” SCREAMING
we’re back to the fond looks
gwaines tiny nod of assurance when merlin looks at him like ??! after he says not arthur
“youre the only friend i have” and i couldnt bear to lose you
Gwen finding out morgana has magic
“she’s changed” break my heart why don’t you (i dont want you to change) BRING HER BACKKK this is making me miss the arc morgana could have had so badly
They caught up to arthur SO FAST goes to show how arthurs going through it
Not wyvern they have four legs actually (tho their designs are cool)
This would have been such a good episode for gwaine to learn merlin is a dragonlord & has magic
Arthur conveniently is knocked out (as always) when merlin does cool magic stuff to save him
When merlin orders them to go and they bow their heads and walk away they look like kicked puppies
The famous arthur waking up to merlins silly little smile and being 100% not appreciative
whatthehellareYOUdoinghere? why can’t you ever just say thanks? augh THANKS!whatforcompLeTlYrUiNiNgThEqUeSt?!
i am supposed to be doing this ALONEEEE
“Are gwen and morgana here too? we going to have a surprise party?” i love you sassy arthur and yes you absolutely should have a surprise party
Do you want us to help you or do you want to do this ~aloneeee~
MERLIN!
The little smile and nod like yeah they got him
“this is a quest merlin not a treasure hunt” well it is sort of- “MERLIN.”
How is that one stone completely sound proof
The cockroaches are icky but y’all have gloves its not that bad you couldn’t even feel them
Set up with the water of avalon and something that actually follows into later episodes
“Merlin.” + arthur doesn’t want to show he actually cares about him vs. gwaine pulling him into a hug
“look what i found” merlin and gwaine shared looks of no you didn’t
The trios conversation at the end i love their dynamics + merlins pause and genuine thanks
Eoin macken looking pretty <33 (he always does)
Merlins little overview of the quest hes so excited awww
Immediate shift to sassy merlin the Duality
I wish Gwen knowing about morgana’s magic would have been explored more i want to see her join gaius and merlin in plotting and going on little quests
Anyways yeah to conclude i miss Gwaine sm :(

idk if this is unpopular, but i’d really love a scene where edwin comes out to crystal. like, she obviously *knows* because she’s perceptive and clocked him being jealous of her and charles pretty quick, and found it to be a total non-issue, but i think from edwin’s perspective it is something he would not assume she’d guess and would be a really nice way to express his growing trust in her, since he had scenes of that nature with both charles and niko. also a good moment to showcase her growth when she realizes that this is sensitive information to edwin and despite the fact that she’s already filed it away (edwin is gay and annoying and these facts have nothing to do with each other lol), she can appreciate him being vulnerable with her and empathize. like i think a lot of the time traditional “coming out” storylines get tired, especially when they’re the only kinds of stories queer characters get, but edwin’s arc is clearly so much more than that and i think it’d be meaningful in the context of their particular relationship.

You know what? I'm gonna complain it is good to put it out with a semi(hopefuly)understandable way see if anyone else had the same thoughts or something
So yeah arcane season 2 ramblings bellow
I knew it would be a hard task to deliver after such a good season 1, like it had everything ending with a perfect cicle, the first step was the last
We got themes and coherent actions with it, the characters are Charaters as much as embodiments of the narrative and it's mensage
And it was all a tragedy in the making
I though they could keep the loop, at the end I never expected we to get close to see Zaun and Piltover being split. Never, they are sisters cities one hurting the other more and more as progress comes and their bridge burns and grows bigger and bigger but never splitting, a never ending cicle(to a never ending game)
It works in the first season and I wished they kept it running in the second, but nooo let's pick up an already solved tread and force it to work again.
What the fuck am I talking about? well, many things, one specifically is
The sisters arc.
I can't be the only who thought what season 1 was trying to say with the tea scene was that she IS Powder AND Jinx, and what she actually needed was for both sides(Vi and Silco) to shut the fuck up and let her BE HERSELF. At that time I though if we ever get a season two she would realize what happened that night, not as choosing a side as she puts but as a birth of something new, while VI could also realize her sister has changed and she is not dead but become worse, or spiral into a worse state of mind ignoring who her sister is and insisting she is dead and wtv that thing Jinx is is not her sister anymore(and that's only bc at that time i discovered her lol conterpart is an enforcer so i though hey Vi's gonna have a villain arc and people are gonna acknowledge she also has insues to work with right :D )
But what season 2 did was forget continuity they are trying to GO BACK and this time the narrative will repeat itself beat by beat but worse.
In season 2 they revived Vander(and that IS vander with a warwick skin), only to beat the man to death 3 times over and over, and worse, don't revive his fucking theme with it making him a plot device more than the character he is, and let's pull Silco right along with him and change all that mattered before with these 2 too why not.
And don't come telling me "but they foreshadowed warwick in season 1" I KNOW AND I WANTED TO SEE WOLFMAN AS DID EVERYBODY. But what I did not want was it to be Vander AGAIN. I wanted them to lean into the amnesiac aspect of his story, Warwick WAS a man before, he was someone ELSE, but now He is OTHER, he is not Vander and would never be, and THAT would be the link to conclude the sisters arc.
The direction I though they would go was to cherish the past, learn from it, and see that you did changed and yet not, you are you in all your gloric and flaws, the child you once were is still in you as is the adult you have become with. It. there.
You can not run from your past, you can not break off of it, else you are not yourself anymore.
In a way VI would trace Vander's footsteps but worse, I though she would lean in the protecting the status quo without thinking about it, yes she is from the undercuts but she has been 7 years in jail and the city changed without her in it, she wants to go back so bad, that she can't see she can't. There is no way she could go back, she is not Vander, and yes his ideas are alive but the time they worked not, a new twist has to be given to it, adapt it to the new present, a thing she can't do alone
And as paralels Jinx, would have traced Silco and not liked it one bit, I never got the vibe that she would by the end fight for a cause, she is no leader, and she is no dog either, she is chaos itself right? She works for herself at the end of the day, I hoped we would see she try and abandon that path altogether without noticing she would be the reverse.
Silco was a dictator in the making with the speech of freedom as his weapon, Vander was a keeper of the status quo in the name of "peace", read stability. Jinx would be an arsonist that accidentally spiked the dream of revolution, of freedom, in the people around her while VI would want to go back to "status quo" by the means of violence.
You see how that's an interesting talk? Yes the past was safety, and yet it wasn't perfect, and yes freedom is beautiful but to get there it will be gory. There will be loss to both mentalities.
It would what? Exactly, keep the goddamn theme of season 1. Maybe not perfectly, I'm no professional, but I can dream.
"But jinx did become a simble of revolution!" NO she did not, it was cute that Isha transformed her image in a simble of hope and that itself works someway for the theme they tried to do for her as just Poweder 2.0, bc that's all she is, the child self, nothing more. But that is not what I'd call satisfying for Jinx character from season 1. Added to that, what revolution? if by the end both sides made up by the power of third party enemy?
The Warwick variable would come to contrast both as a new character, maybe a victim of the status quo Vi is adhering and a psicological contrast to Jinx change.
As a side not LET SILCO DIE. LET HIM FUCKING DIE AND STAY DEAD LIKE VANDER IS. I don't want a backstory, nor flashback, nor memory trip, the past of these two was excellent as ambiguous, they are the mentors, the fathers, the side characters, ambiguity WORKS IN THEIR FAVOR, legends of their own making
What i asked of this arc was a paralel scene with Jinx and Silco to VI and Vander back in season 1, y'know? The one VI is knocked down and Vander's ghost basically comes back to give her a BRIEF pep talk that MATCHES HER OWN MINDSET AND HIS, BC THEY EMBODY THE SAME PARALEL? YEAH. AND I WAS HAPPY that Silco got his ghost moment, but... he would not... forgive, season 1 would not and Jinx in that mind state, nor before, would too, these two have one thing in comum and is SPITE, they are cocrooch that refuses to die despite being repeatedly beaten out of your home, wish that was the focus of these two in that paralel scene, but well... with the theme they choose he had to be changed
Mel Medarda what did they do to you my girl you did not deserve this
Now, to be fair her arc could be fixed with more episodes or just one more season just establish something that wasn't there is season 1, her magic powers. But in my rant I'm trying to see if there is just another way for her to go that could tecnicaly and not need another season
Arcane was fast peaced but at least it had a focus.
Season 1 focused on the sisters more than up top, everyone there, including Mel were more world building devices than characters to me, and season 2 changed the focus characters to Viktor and Jayce but forgot to bring with them their support characters wich explains to me why I feel so lost to half the casts motives and place in the story.
In the beggining I loved that we focused on her opposing her mother in every decision, and gave a paralel to her own path in season 1, when Ambesa says let's use hextech I wanted the show to scream the same scens as Mel had when she convinced the council to use it too.
I wanted the show to pick these people who says "wow Mel is so evillll she manipulates peopleeeee my poor babyyyy jayce noooo my himbo sonnn" by the throat and say "you want to see manipulation? I'l fucking show you it" and presents Ambesa as the foil.
Focus on a political intrigue to these two, buy time for wtv is happening with Viktor, Caitlyn, Vi and Jinx to cook, Ambesa wants an invasion, Mel doesn't.
Maybe the seeds for magical powers were there in season 1, Mels paintings(magic and art thend to be used interchangeably in some medias i think), Ambesa's music video, "why did you come here mother?", but it would need more time to flourish in a satisfactory way, or at least better presented.
"Oh your powers are growing faster bc the arcane is awaken" BULLSHIT I TELL YOU.
Mel is strong in her words, love a woman who can kick ass but love one that can make myself bend to her will with one word even more.
Actualy on second though you know what would made her arc suck less? IF THEY DIDN'T FRIDGED HER FOR HALF OF IT. If the black rose was not meant to be the big bad at the end then what the fuck was the point of taking her out of the picture(would it be too hard to make her magical powers manifest in the scene she was kidnapped insted of... kidnaping. Girl was playing detective already)? The only way I can think it was a good idea is bc they didn't want to make her and Caitlyn fight for the sake of a final show down with Ambesa, bc there is no way these two would be in speaking terms if they interacted during Caits dictatorship
Speaking of dictatorship, for more that I love it I also loath it bc they just didn't show the during reing enough and I blame they taking Mel down way too early(I love the path of anger and grief Caitlyn went). Imagine a world were down there it's an emotional conflict leaded by Vi-Warwick-Jinx and up there a political intrigue of Mel-Caitlyn-Ambesa. That ends with peace below and an explosion(fascist reing start) up there? A, say it with me, INVERSION OF SEASON 1 ENDING :) wouldn't that be NEAT?!
Maybe even end it right there and let it ambiguous. There is no need for season 3 if they don't can't do it, the open ending is the strong forte of this series for me especificaly.
But what about the rest? What about
Jayce, Viktor and Ekko
Gonna be honest, they arc is so over the place with who they were in season 1 that they fell completely unrelated to anything in there anymore.
Season 2 changed focus from the sisters to Jayce and Viktor, everything plot related was through them, the problem is, their choices and... themes? Were not previously established by season 1 and season 2 took both out of the picture and put doppelganger in their places.
For more that I love Jesus viktor... now that I saw the fans that know him as The Machine Herald complain about his arc I know what was bugging me with it too.
He didn't choose any of what happened to him, something that is and was, a big thing to him back in season 1 and his lol conterpart. You know, Sky was never a character, she was a warning to Viktor remember? She died, consumed by the hexcore because of his medling, and he still continued to use it, wasn't that supposed to be the warning sigh to us that Viktor was going to spiral? And yet...
By the end Jayce and Viktor are foils, even if the season presents literaly 3 versions of them in one season bc they didn't transitioned their chance as smoothly as I'd like. Bc for more gay and amazing that ending was... Jayce is not the same character he was when he shot Viktor, absolutely not, you are telling me, that he was given a mission to show Viktor the future, and his response was to kill him instead of try to allude to the end? That the Jayce that shot Viktor in the chest was the same Jayce that understood he had to hug the divine manifestation lf his partner in the Astral plane to show the future and esencialy die with him by the end?
Love how Ekko swinged by the end and bough enough time for that finale he literaly lived up to his expectations as the boy savior, but lord I wanted him to be so much more coherent, the narrative yanked him out of the leadership role he had in season 1 and made him a by stander and last minute deus ex maquina. HE SHOULD BE THE ONE TO ANSWER VI/Vander AND Silco/Jinx THEMES, HE HAS WAS THE THRID FACTION THE BETTER FUTURE, THE SIDE WE AS THE AUDIENCE SHOULD CHEER THE MOST AS THE NEW FUTURE FOR ZAUN. NOT THE LETS GET TOGHETER AS ONE TO DEFEND OUR CITY FROM THE BIG BAD NATION OVER SEAS- FUCK THAT.
Him and Sevika should join forces, their arc should have been bring down town togheter and focus on a better future, heal the now, even if both have diferent visions of a future they should agree to clean Zaun even if in diferent direction. I love him with Heimendinher, bc it could be amazing to see a founder of Zaun learn with the next generation of leadership, let's bring the spark of empathy back to the old man, lets show what community is again for him, a tall about how disconnected he had become from what were supposed to be his people, let him give propositions and Ekko oppose them but with compromises, a paralel to Jayce in that way too.
How Jayce was the pupil that went into politics and become corrupt, Ekko is the one who is a community leader and won't be corrupt, how Heimendinher was too cautious and practical for both parties he will be opposed but know to better compromise, learn again why humanity moves fast, we do not have eternity. Where Jayce failed Ekko will thrive, and it was to make that old man learn emphaty again.
So maybe the focus of these 3 should be the future isn't?
Viktor, by his own hands, would want a evolution were no weakness are present, and by weakness I mean emotion bc... the focus of his path in season 1 was to live, he wanted to be alive to make a name for himself, to be remembered, so maybe with his close dance with death with that missile it pushes him to realize humanity never changes and even when everything could end up right and peaceful, our personal vendetta would detriment any chance of progress, hence he starts a way to fix it.
Instead of... internalized ableism, is it a interesting talk? Absolutely but you can't deny it was poorly set up, he was dieing and he wanted to not be... I'm sorry but "your imperfection is beautiful" was done better with Entrapta and Hordak from reboot Shera
Bc by lol lore that was the conflict between him and Jayce right? Viktor wanted a hive mind Jayce didn't, it was a conscious choice from both parties, so there we have a divorce arc, and sexual tension with the enemie.
So yeah
These are my thoughts mixed with what I wish it was and complains... I have no idea if I make sense or not
But hey if you got to this end thanks for reading, and hope it resonated a bit with you, if not, well shit bro I did say I was complaining.

i need us all to be aware I think of Wendy and her family a very normal amount
#Okay but seriously#Wendy could have been SUCH a good character. I wish she had a bit more focus.#With the loss of her mom I mean- we have so much to work with.#And her whole 'she seems chill but really isn't' is also really good and I wish that had more devopement because.. kin.#And I think a good arc for her to have had was her realizing she didn't always need to be the 'okay' one.#I really like Wendy she's interesting and I wish we had that episode of Wendy and Stan#To the cut one where Stan taught her how to pickpocket.#I think.#It would be a good episode for her.#stanford pines#grunkle ford#ford pines#gravity falls stanford#gravity falls bill#gravity falls au#Gravity falls#wendy corduroy#wendy corduroy gravity falls#pines family#OH AND.#I kinda wish.#We saw more of her family.#Nothing crazy or anything but.#Something a long the lines of how we see Soos' abuela.#Also I just really like Handy Dan's design and I need to see him more.

"what would your character be like without their trauma?" is such a hard question for me because it makes me feel like a massive asshole LMAO
(im attaching a picture of a tundra literally to add context to my ramble in the tags because my posts are structured by a sane person) (you should read the ramble in the tags i talk so much about rivers fsr)
#like. rivers would probably just purpose funky things for the hell of it and study lizards and stuff#i think environmentalism would matter to him since he was created long before the great equalizer when there was like. actually a view#have you guys ever looked at a tundra for real theyre so pretty. i think the colours would be funkier though#purples and blues along with the reds and oranges i think but id have to draw it tio be sure its not ugly#anyways. rivers would probably be interested in nature conservation especially since the ancients destroyed the world-#but the iterators construction obviously had a massive part in that so hed feel ownership#him and glass wouldve got along VERY well in this circumstance since that matters a lot to her (specifically animal conservation though)#but at the same time glass doesnt exist without rivers trauma right. she cant exist if flowers isnt in his life because he Literally built#her (glass) just to be mean to rivers#doomed for real#i....... want them to be friends in the walky au. my massive block is trying to think of some reason nights Needs to leave his can because#he wouldnt if not required. and glass just wouldnt leave him. in no circumstance would they willingly separate from eachothers company#theyd ALSO need to be really fast because the only opportunity nights would get to get out is when odyssey goes to him to help her build#the weapon she needs to kill dune. (odyssey has the gift. the twins dont know anyone else who does((other than phrases obvsly)))#this happens a considerable amount of time after phrases and rivers escape. they have like. a month's time on them#odysseys like “if you guys are for real about leaving do NOT go straight south. dont. dont. dont. youre like 2 feet tall you WILL die”#nights is like “DEAR GOD SERIAL KILLERS??????” and glass is like “wtf youre only like a foot taller than us”#anyways i think glass and rivers would get along and rivers has a positive arc here right and realizes hes wrong and hes glad he didnt.#kill the twins. yeah its good you didnt do that dude#i jsut really really think theyd get along if rivers had the chance to associate her with anything but flowers horrid treatment of him#because in the normal story all he sees when he sees her is flowers. and like flowers could the twins can tap into his work and see his#files and logs and such whenever they wanted. they didnt do this very often- glass really never looked at rivers work unless she was told t#but rivers was just made SO paranoid by flowers abuse that thinking of being watched makes him feel sick and horrible#and his whole thing is trying to find a way to feel less horrible right so thats (part of) why he decides to get rid of them#hm. if rivers wassnt traumatized hed like nature and creatures. anyways#oc posting#look to the tags for the oc posting

Me: I don't know what to do with Veronica's character in post s8 au, I don't want her to be Just Lance's sister and Kuron's friend with Pidge's storyline slapped on her, but also I'm not really sure about her character. Sure there's the whole lying to her family thing but I don't think that's enough?
Brain: ok so what if Veronica started out as trying to look for what was Lance upto but she ends up being so obsessed with finding the truth that not only she repeatedly puts herself in harms way but also the original goal falls on wayside.
This could be her way of dealing with trauma which is getting engrossed in the Mission and a problem to fix while suppressing her grief and refusing to actually acknowledge her problems and her own emotions a foil to Kuron's arc that is him being literally driven by emotions. She's angry at Lance for leaving without a word and angry at her family for their clinginess, however she keeps it to herself and just avoid them pretending everything is fine and normal
Also a foil to Lance who started as trying to figure out what was going on but as soon as he realized that 1) Allura and Kuron are still sorta alive 2) he can bring them back, he got obsessed with it consequences by damned.
Plus through her we can actually explore how quintessence actually effects and changes humans rather than become aware of the end result
Also there's something a character who is obsessed with truth but is also such a frequent liar
#There's a lot more but it involves changing a lot of elements of this au and explaining half assed elements and scenes in my head#post s8 au#post s8 posting#Just realizing she's having a jon sims arc. Good for her! Atleast she won't accidentally cause an apocalypse#It is still very draft and beta and I keep changing things in it as soon as I think of something cool#I kinda want Lance to be like at first seeing him living a 'normal' life but also there's something clearly Wrong#Veronica seems to be always busy and gone and never there. Shadows and crows being weird#and a voice asking him 'Did you make right choice?' And 'Remember' and 'wake up'#only to reveal that he has been living in a fake reality and a lot of his family is dead#yk that one scene in dunmeshi where Laois digs up and stares at Falin's skull. Lance digging up a grave and be like 'Dad?'#it's representational in his own head. And Lance created this fake reality as a form of denialism#Veronica at first being standoffish not being completely honest with Kuron#Lying to Kuron and her superiors about where she had been making her sus#Kuron not knowing that Lance was the one who brought him back until much later#only that *Someone*was reaching out to him in Shiro's mind and made his body#The family is dead and Lance was living in fake reality reveal happens just as Veronica starts being honest with Kuron#Few of the family members are killed due to retaliation from an extremist galra group#A hot topic in coalition meetings which is a way for connecting Hunk!!!! To the plot!!!!!#I love you my brain!!!#Sorry this is so fucking incoherent

i will forever think about my deconstructed damsel chapter 3 idea . god it could have been so good
#the idea of the chapter is obviously that you get there by deconstructing her#stubborn would be the added voice and thru the chapter your main goal would be to reconstruct her#to do so youd have to consistently push against the idea that she has to make you happy which ultimately results in you having to reject he#entirely. she would become more and more frustrated and upset that you wont just let her do this#and the chapter (in its most satisfying form of playing through it) would end with her fully reconstructed and fully angry at you#not necessarily a true anger moreso a one of the moment#but it still results in her storming out of the cabin and locking you in it#its a good arc for her i think. not only does she gain autonomy but also actively uses it *cough cough unlike a certain chapter*#but its also a good arc for smitten. hes still a lovesick fool but as she reconstructs he realizes that they cant be all the other cares ab#ut and that for the good of both of them he has to want something other than just making her happy just like she only wanted to make them#happy. stubborn is the one who pushes you to keep rejecting her even if it isnt what you truly want to do because its what Needs to be done#in order for her to be a real person. you have to be mean to her and you have to hurt her but it is for the greater goal of granting her he#own freedom. if you succeed in reconstructing her her perspective image in the shifty confrontation is the view of the woods outside#thats what was most important to her in the end. she didnt know it but that is ultimately what is true. she wanted to leave and she has#rattles the bars of my cage. if i could write id make fic of this or if i had the artistic stamina id make fake gameplay for this#unfortunately i do not#this chapter would be a very linear one but unlike most of the linear ones there Would still be an alternate ending! which is just if you#refuse to reconstruct her and she remains a ghost of your own creation

Absolutely ridiculous that we didn't see Hope Mikaelson didn't kiss a girl ONCE. Like not even in her no humanity arc. Like unbelievable.
#lizzie too but like. her arc very much feels like a realization one and i think it makes sense she didn't get to that point i guess. but#hope??? like she never had a girlfriend and i think that sucks for me but i get that she was in love y'know. bi girls can just date a guy#if they want. good for them! and can also only kiss guys. like being attracted to more than one gender is not conditional. thats not my#point. hope didnt kiss Anyone other than landon i know but its just strange to me that they didnt have her kiss anyone as nh hope. and#also i just feel like we shouldve seen her kiss a girl. just in general.#idk. like when she was dancing with the girl in the bar she could've kissed her yknow. wouldve made sense. or just anyone#also her humanity turned off bc of losing landon and shes overall like im not who i used to be and shes never coming back so im just like#it wouldve made sense?? for her to kiss or hook up with other people. not necessarily a girl but it could've been

straight up getting emotional about a thing that happened in a campaign that ended over a year ago
like. i wrote an ambiguous and biased backstory of a character who is part of an apocalyptic world-ending cult, who deep down wanted to study wizardry but had to frame it as going undercover as an apprentice and stealing secrets from this doddering old archmage to aid her people’s cause . and then she goes and learns wizardry and eventually realizes she wants more for herself and breaks from her cult
and i mean. there’s a lot of ways my dm could have run with that. i was fully expecting that archmage to be furious at my character for lying to and stealing from him. and so when they ran into each other again, i was braced for a fight, or at least an altercation
but instead the archmage went. i knew all along. of course i knew. i’m a divination wizard, silly. i saw a young woman in a bad place and i wanted to help her. i thought that by showing her kindness and creating an environment for her that wasn’t all about power struggles and nihilistic fanaticism that she might realize that there was more out there in the world for her. that she deserved more. you didn’t steal secrets from me, because i gave them to you. i was your teacher. i loved you and love you still
and god i didn’t know where that character was going to end up before then. i thought maybe she could go on a typical wizard hubris spiral, or a revenge quest against her old cult, but in that moment i was like. oh. she is loved. she has new friends, new family. she has a reason to change, a reason to care. her story is just about love, and about making people’s lives better
her alignment shifted from neutral to neutral good soon after. she never stopped being curious, sometimes to the point of foolishness, but she never squandered her teacher’s gift. she left the world better than she found it
#i just WEEP when i think about it sometimes#and then her teacher did just become the party's best wizard bud#we got his teleportation circle and then just showed up to his tower all the time#to hang out#we eventually got a dedicated guest room#my wizard shared all the spells she learned with him. including some dunamancy ones that she pieced together herself#he even fought a tarrasque with us#eventually she even passed him in level#and when he found out she could cast wish...he was SO PROUD#genuinely in the final arc getting an 'im proud of you' from this man was the best thing that had ever happened to me#and honestly i think his influence is why at the end of the campaign my wizard chose to die of old age#she had access to pretty much every necromantic secret in the world#given she did a LOT of necromancy research over the course of the campaign. plus her old cult did a lot of it so she was well versed#she could have found immortality in a hundred different ways#but instead she lived a good life. loved her friends#and passed on peacefully with her warforged friend by her side#so the point of all this is love IS the answer#her character arc felt so natural to me. i lived it for YEARS and one day i looked back and realized she had changed utterly#even though i hadn't once made the conscious choice for her to change#it was just love. from everyone around her#it was impossible for her to NOT change in the face of it all#AUGHGHGHGGGHH#oc: arabella

ok final verdict tiger and bunny 2 is really good and a huge improvement on the og HOWEVER. lunatic's ending was bizzare rushed depressing and went against everything his arc was pointing to. like it felt like some hayes code contrived bullshit
#he did not have to die and thematically should not have died#like his whole arc was changing his view on heroism so why was the ending just his og stance taken to its logical conclusion#also i keep refering to lunatic w fem pronouns in my head lol girlie looks eggy#but yea her ending should have been changing to heroism for the sake of saving ppl rather than punishing them#and not punishing herself#like who thought having her kill herself bc the ghost of her abusive dead dad told her to was a good idea#also she should have transitioned and started going by luna bc thats fucking cute ty kotetsu#tbh i think her arc was planned to be longer but the writers realized they didnt have time for it so. sorry mentally ill abused girlie#ur killing urself#OUTSIDE of that though i liked everything else#could have used an extra episode or two though#suicide mention#i got emotional at the taibani end but my brain was chewing too hard on the lunatic stuff for it to actually hit#they shoulda been a trio#ACTUALLY one more thing kotetsu barely ever used his power he could absolutely keep being a hero without it#and we should have like had an afterwards where he like advocates for useless NEXT rights#or something#once again it feels like this show was made to explore way different things than it does#like its not built for the racism allegory sorry it just doesnt work well#theres an argument for it being disability/ neurodivergence but it really just felt like a race thing#also rip fire emblem lmao she got hit w every kind of discrimination in that universe#sucks shes an oil baron#tiger and bunny spoilers

Relativity Falls!
Design Concepts (and my unnecessary thoughts):
Excuse the the colors, ig my apps are fighting.
I see Mabel finding success no matter what happens to her, but I really like the thought of her running an insane arts and crafts business in GF. Alternatively, if she fell in the portal, she'd come out acting confident as always, but she probably wouldn't realize how much the constant change and lack of family/stability wore her out until she settled back in. In either case, she's a bit cracked.
Dipper is investigative, but cracks easiest under stress and is not as inherently adventurous as Mabel or Ford- so the portal wouldn't treat him well. If he's not the one in the portal, he'd be into stargazing and real magic to share with people, while also warding tourists away from the dangerous stuff. In general, he'd be an unhappy adult if left to his own devices, lol.
Between Dipper and Mabel, I like Dipper being in the portal more. He's a great protagonist, but as a supporting cast member, he needs to be more insane to match the draw that is 'Mabel taking care of children,' ha. I also love the idea of there being no portal / some other looming threat for these two to struggle with (at least because Hirsche has made it clear that Dipper and Mabel are equally smart, and to me it seems like the portal would reopen way quicker with them), but I didn't plan on posting these and I don't know how my followers feel about me posting lore.
Stanford and Stanley:
Pretty much how they are in canon, but now they're in a setting where they can get over themselves, ha. They aren't quite as mature as Dipper and Mabel were at their age, but after coming to GF, they finally found other people to look out for them. Dipper could be a more emotionally available and level-headed role model (I think having people to take care of is calming for him in turn), and they'd both look up to Mabel as the peak of somebody who knows how to socialize.
Fiddleford:
He's a sweet, southern, farm-raised mechanical engineer just like in canon.
Idk why Fiddleford is in GF (visiting an unnamed grandparent?), but I really like his relationship with Ford in the journal. Following that thought, in this AU, he starts out more of Ford's friend than Stan's, and it's kind of a big deal. Unlike Dipper's arc on learning to be a kid, Stan and Ford clearly struggled a lot with interpersonal relationships / finding security outside of eachother, and that's what I think this AU could be about (it's great they realized they need each other in canon, but the part where they had no one else to turn to is also kinda crazy if you ask me).
Ford gets to meet another smart kid in a weird town, which helps him feel more normal. He has a better idea of what friendship is because of it, but also, since I can't imagine Dipper wanting an apprentice so young/vulnerable/impressionable or Mabel asking only one of the twins to stay- he'd have to come to terms with the fact that he can't live in his dream world forever. (Or maybe the apprenticeship comes from somewhere else, just because the conflict around going back to Glass Shard Beach at all, or sending Stan alone could be pretty good.)
On the flipside, I think Stan's initial jealousy of Ford and Fiddleford's friendship would force him to try finding his own friends / hobbies. I like the idea that he fails at first- and a lot- but Mabel notices his mounting frustration (which he is very keen on hiding), and her consistent and unorthodox support makes him realize he wasn't alone to begin with. He can be more open around her, which makes it easier to open up to others, and then he can make friends without having to pull any tricks. He probably starts with some animals, and then at least gets closer to Fiddleford anyways (I feel like they're both more practical than Ford and value human company more, so they'd bond easier once Stan gets over his personal hurdle).
Anyways- because that was way too much- Mabel's exes are a constant source of antagonists and Dipper is stressed about setting a good example.
(I was more of a Monster Falls fan back in the day, but I can't draw animals, lol)
#fanart#gravity falls#relativity falls#relativity au#mabel pines#dipper pines#stanford pines#stanley pines#fiddleford mcgucket#fiddauthor#(if you wish)#I wasn't planning on doing any AU fanart#but designing mabel was way too fun#damn i didn't even draw bill#oh well#i have mixed feelings and ideas for how he'd fit in anyways

"I think the cycle only ends when you find the will to walk away."
Got a lot of Q's for this in my inbox. Figured I'd just address them here.
tw: mentions of suicide, suicidal ideation
Re: the ending of S2:
Jinx did not die.
She symbolically killed her old self, and with it, her last ties to the past that imprisoned her. She understood that for her sister to move on and live her life - be happy without guilt - she'd have to renounce the bonds that held them together.
Her talk with ghostly Silco was the 'sign-off' she'd been waiting for, ever his dutiful daughter. Throughout S2, she kept hoping he'd haunt her, and in doing so, offer some impetus given her aimlessness. Maybe just straight up boss her around, and tell her how she's supposed to exist now that he's no longer there to be a (subversive if loving) guiding hand.
But it was the promise of time (as represented by Ekko) healing old wounds, and the courage to feel, as she once had - a hopeful child with a hopeful future - that allowed Jinx to commit impetus to action.
Her blimp-ship in the climactic battle is a tribute to Isha - but also to the child in Jinx's own fractured psyche: Powder. She's letting both little girls have one last hurrah before she takes care of business - and cuts off the last oaths, duties and commitments that bind her to a past whose parameters she's outgrown.
Better still, she knows she's got the capacity to outgrow them.
That was the point of Jinx's arc with Isha, and why, no matter my misgivings on Isha's character herself, I found Jinx's trajectory towards a more nurturing and fun-loving figure more life-affirming and positive than the straightforward 'Daddy's Villain Goes Postal' shtick.
It's even why there's a minigame titled Jinx Fixes Everything. It's Jinx, struggling and stumbling, as she tries to rewrite her narrative, and finds in herself the capacity to do good.
To fix things that seem irreparably broken.
And to understand why she's reached this stage, we've got to let go of our tendency to project our own stuff onto Jinx (precious meow meow, unrepentant terrorist, manic pixie crazypants, edgy hot psycho) and acknowledge the purpose she plays in Arcane's thematic structure.
Jinx's character comes off as a death-seeker, and that's no shocker. She is hounded by terrible guilt and loss. She's got blood on her hands, and ghosts on her heels, and no matter what she does, she can't seem to be rid of them. Her inner mind's fractured, her mannerisms ooze pure chaos, and she seems a creature of pure feral impulse and no mercy.
That's the Jinx we're accustomed to seeing in S1 - except that's also both the front she's most likely to put on during that timeline, and the persona that is necessary for her to inhabit to survive, as Silco's daughter and his top enforcer.
Then Silco kicks the bucket, she symbolically fulfills his dream by shooting at the Council HQ, she accepts that she must inhabit this path of shadows and loneliness (as symbolized by her starkly decorated chair in the tea party scene), she accepts the fragmented push-and-pull between past and present, and...
And now what?
Silco's given her a semblance of direction for six years, and he's gone. Vi, the sister she'd hoped would return, and whom she'd hinged so many childishly idealized hopes on, is herself traumatized, and afraid of what her sister's become.
Jinx has her shadows and her loneliness. Jinx is traumatized. Jinx is suicidal.
But Jinx is still, whatever else, alive.
And all living things need connections.
That's why we as the audience enjoy her little found family dynamic with Isha and Sevika. It's Jinx, taking the first tentative steps to reach out to people beyond Silco and Vi, and realizing, wow, she enjoys the pay-off.
And all throughout S2, we see Jinx growing more and more comfortable in this newfound space - even jealously guarding it at the expense of Zaun's liberty, and Silco's wishes, because she can't bear to lose what she's found.
And what she finds empowers her enough that, when Warwick shows up, she's actually willing to reach out to Vi, and call upon their family connection, because Jinx is learning the value of bonds, not as baling hooks of guilt, but as buoys to carry her forward.
That's the story Jinx's relationships serve to tell in S2. Each one shapes the choice she makes in the finale. Until she learns to accept the past (Vi), to lay the monsters to rest (Silco and Vander/Warwick), forgive herself (Caitlyn) trust that time heals all wounds (Ekko), and hope for happier new beginning (Isha), she'll never trust herself enough to just seize the chance.
Jinx's culminating arc is not about death, much less self-erasure. It's about resurrection, and embracing the sublime chaos of a freed mind, and a lightened spirit. That's what she craves beyond simple death, and what her baptism by fire, blood and riverwater, has been about.
Each trial grinds her down into someone else. Someone new.
Someone closer to who she is meant to be, rather than who she's expected to be.
That's why she's so glad to make the sacrifice for Vi. She's not dying as an act of self-immolation. She's giving her sister - the one who's proven she'll never give up on her - the ultimate gift, and showing Vi that she deserves to live.
She needs Vi to live, so Jinx, the persona, can finally die.
"He (Silco) didn't make Jinx. You did."
She's basically saying, "I love you, I will always be with you, but you are no longer responsible for my actions. Please move forward with your life, and grant me the choice to do the same."
It's two sisters embracing everything they've meant to each other, acknowledging the pain weighing them down on both sides, and welcoming the new so they can each slough off old paradigms and live life as a whole person - or at least take steps to remembering what wholeness feels like.
That's the reason the show's final shots linger on the Hexgate tunnels, Jinx's monkey bomb, and the aircraft.
It's the show's way of reminding us that Jinx has ascended to a different version of her identity - one removed from the past that haunted her. It's Jinx, finally striking out alone, away from the sister whose memory she clung so desperately to, and who was, in turn, horrified by her hand in making Powder a monster (perceived guilt or real, fandom may debate ad nauseum) due to past mistakes and abandonment.
The ending of Arcane isn't tragic. It's deeply hopeful, and serves as a reminder that no matter how damaged you think you are, and no matter how monstrous the world finds you, there are still ways to come back to yourself - or to walk the path toward a new you.
Jinx is symbolized by crows. Jinx is shown with firelights emerging from her mouth. Jinx is depicted holding a torch like Janna ushering in the winds of change.
Thematically, Jinx is change.
And the best way she can embody that change is to write her story, and make it her own.
