I can objectively recognize that as a writing decision, having lawrusso constantly reverting to the same arguments is bad and redundant and makes a lot of previous conflicts and resolutions feel like they didn’t matter if they’re just gonna fight again and make any new resolutions feel cheapened by the worry that it won’t last. I also love the drama and think that it is conceptually hilarious that these two men have been so mentally ill about each other for 30+ years that they cannot go more than a month in each other’s presence without reverting to the same fighting and snapping at each other. These men will continue to go in circles until they kill each other or fuck and I’m willing to let them have that

I didn't get him (and I need to save my keys for Silver's birthday, sob) so I looked up his groovy, and I'm not over how incredibly dramatic and epic and cool it looks in direct contrast to the absolutely ridiculous context. just look at that dynamic action and his majestic sparkling tears and keep in mind that this is pretty much right after a bunch of characters have been dance battling for his soul.

and then even the actual moment of the groovy is just like

this is NOT a negative in the slightest, I love it all, this truly was an incredible update in so many ways

I enjoy that he is very flawed and volatile.#This episode of the audio drama has a lot of great breakdown scenes featuring JC - and they all deserve a feature.#But underlying this comic is a small meta comment of 'ah man I have too many comics of JC just wailing sadly'#My goal is to draw 6-8 comics per episode - I sometimes have to truncate and cut good scenes out.#Especially when a large majority is just different flavours of trauma and toxic relationships to your self-worth.#I would also like to make a note here that just because you lose the ability to do something that is very tied to your core identity-#-does not mean your life is over. It will feel like the end of the world. It will send you into a spiral of grief. It will hurt so badly.#Sometimes we do not realize how tied up our identities can be in certain things until we are cut loose.#You don't lose yourself. I promise the pain will fade in time. i feel like something that’s so fun about watching d20 specifically is the intersection of comedy improvisation and roleplaying. like actively choosing your reaction in the moment to make the bit funnier AND incorporating that into your character?

specifically thinking about the way gorgug and kristen as characters walk that line — kristen’s inability to take anything seriously in fhjy is partially ally going for the throat comedically (“what are you, 4 different dogs?”, “heyyy girlie”, stripping down in the hallway, the interaction w her parents) but then it fully becomes part of kristens character arc of “chaos isn’t cute”.

and gorgug at the festival was obviously zac choosing to be the straight man and playing up his reaction for laughs (“the lawnmower? the lawnmower?”) but it also perfectly fits gorgugs character of awkward kid with extremely vocally sex positive parents + barbarian rage = kid who’s absolutely fucking had it today, and just adds that beautiful roundness to gorgugs mostly peaceful character

#like most actual play campaigns nail the lighthearted tone and the serious drama moments ofc. but d20 really shines with the bits imo #dimension 20 #fantasy high #fantasy high junior year #even in stuff like starstruck or neverafter… the improv truly elevates characters that are fully rounded good characters #and just elevates them to a level above that #i just love watching funny d20 IH seasons where you can tell the improviser/bit demon takes over the character

Etho and joels relationship is so peculiar to me bc i feel like when they first paired up in dl joel was putting all the effort in like building the ship and going around convincing everyone hes so tight with etho while etho is kind of just playing along and the very moment theyre not obligated to be together anymore etho is all jealous of him having other friends while simultaneously almost avoiding him. And then in secret life etho is all coy around him trying to remind him of their relationship while joel pretends he wasnt just obsessed with him. And of course its crazier now that theyre in hermitcraft together because now we get to see even more of the way etho thinks about joel, meanwhile joel is constantly making fun of him for it SPECIFICALLY to direct the attention away from HIM being obsessed. And both of them are doing it. Why cant they just kiss

So in Season 1, during the intimate scene, we saw more than we need to because it was showcasing how we are invading their privacy by watching.

In Season 2, it faded to black after they closed the curtains because this moment is only for them and no one else should be able to watch them now.

Following this, I honestly expected that they wouldn’t have shown us more than they did in season 1 cause they did it before with a purpose BUT I WAS WRONG.

Now that I think about it, it’s completely fitting that they showed is these scenes explicitly and not just implied some of the things happening like in previous seasons. I thought it would’ve been for no reason to do so anymore but I completely went over the fact that this is how it is. THEY ARE PUBLIC NOW. Everything they do, there are people watching. They no longer have actual privacy, everyone will be able to see them and make comments and assumptions whether they want to or not.

And I think it’s just amazing how these intimate scenes are written based on the stages of their relationship.

My favorite part about having multiple disabled protagonists in QL right now is that we have everyone. We have a character who was born Deaf and whose parents learned sign language and raised him to be confident in himself and who's educated and skilled and has a best friend who encourages him but also makes sure to always include him. We have a lawyer who who developed her blindness later in life who used her career to try and work on the exact issues she's facing in life with this monumental change. We get a Deaf man who works for his family store and who basically falls in love because someone knows sign language and is especially nice to him and it's great.

We see everyone! We get three different representations and we get to enjoy and watch them find love and learn about their lives and understand that they can do everything, in the end.

(My undying love for Shao Peng getting to just kick ass will never end. He's professional, talented, knows his own worth and is determined to try this on his own. Love him. Love him.)

#poorly drawn mdzs #mdzs #wei wuxian #lan wangji #jin guangyao #qin su #The parallels to the mulderskully comic were genuine scripting coincidences that I kept in for the irony.#wwx and mulder both have a strong need to show their beloved (investigation) partner the cool thing they just found.#Much to their chagrin and concern.#For as much of a mess the plot gets in The Untamed...one of the things it does probably the best of all adaptions is setting up JGY.#specifically how we spend time getting to know him as a *Regular Guy* around our deuteragonists' age.#I love how he's present in the cloud recess arc! I was rooting for him as a character! The twist villain reveal felt so heartbreaking!#Here in the audio drama (for as much as it does well) we pretty much get 2 scenes tops with this guy before he's villain monologuing.#before this we know him as 1) the guy NMJ yelled at a lot 2) a suspect 3) leader guy Jin Ling was partially raised by.#The elements are there but but not with any particular depth to make him...interesting (in this version).#Sure we get to learn more after the fact but it just falls so flat in comparison B*/#ohhhh noooo the guy we are pretty sure killed a guy is gaslighting his wife and has a secret torture chamber. And he's a politician.#not much of a mystery to it all innit.#Feel free to disagree or bring up differing points btw; I love media analysis convos and this truly is just my opinion.
