Alyx is clairvoyant. He doesn't write the future into reality (that is a possibility one day but right now he doesn't even know he's writing about 'real' people and just thinks he's got a great muse that's inspiring his motivation lol). But his writing does come true for who it depicts because he is essentially chronicling their future.

But the thing is, if he doesn't write it like a fiction, he basically only gets the most generic of understandings currently. Like if he was standing outside a house that if his 'muse' entered they would get stuck in a death-loop of murder and carnage, he'd probably be like 'woah hey i think bad things might happen in there'. It's that level of vague. He also can only write about some people, not just anyone (specifically my characters).

He's new to Cadence so he hasn't met anyone that he writes about yet, just having moved there from Georgia with his roommate, Bun, but I think it'll be very interesting if he meets some of the people he's been accidentally predicting the futures of.

Half Life Headcanons

In no particular order QuQ

-Half life Return to Ravenholm tales place before half life 2 and its episodes. Adrian and Grigori end up bonding and having a father/son type relationship, both of them relating to being alone for so long. At the end of it Adrian dies to a complication with a headcrab zombie, leaving Grigori truly alone.

-Some resistance members actually doubted that Gordon was real, their only proof being hearing stories from people who actually knew him. Most of the people from Black Mesa weren't bothered by it, although it did bother Barney a bit.

-When Gordon and Alyx first met Alyx had a crush on him, but as time went on and they become closer friends it went away.

-When Gordon first joined Black Mesa, because of how young he was compared to the other scientists Barney assumed he would be a stuck up rich kid. He and Gordon now joke about this.

-The Combine tried using Poison Headcrabs as a torture method but they were hard to find outside of ravenholm, so they eventually moved onto other methods.

-When the Combine first started their journey of taking over worlds, they had reason and mercy but as time went on they forgot their ways and become cruel and merciless. They now only know power and hunger.

-Gordon lost his sense of smell after the Resonance Cadcade. He could be smelling absolutely AWFUL and wouldn't know unless someone told him.

-Eli lost his leg in the 7 Hour War. Alyx and Kleiner don't like him leaving the bases but they can't rlly stop him.

-Gordon is Autistic and is selective mute. When he does actually talk its in singular words and only around people he'd trust his life with.

-When the Combine first came to earth many people actually willingly joined because they believed the Combine would be beneficial.

-Colinne and Gina end up dying in Xen. They have a teary goodbye before they die where they confess their love for eachother.

-Barney got a bit of a drinking problem and threw himself into work after Gordon went missing. Kleiner was the one who helped him get his life back on track.

-Adrian loves dogs and ends up growing very fond of the houndeyes.

-G-Man actually doesn't have a proper gender. He goes by He/She pronouns but prefers to be called a man and dress masculine.

-Stasis consists of a dark void with a watery floor. To save time people who are put in there are put into a deep sleep.

-Alyx smokes weed.

-Gordon was somewhat scared of vortigons because of what happened at Black Mesa, but after they helped Alyx his fear went away entirely.

-Alyx can get extreme back pain if she over works herself. This originated from when she was impaled.

-Adrian has body dysmorphia and doesnt like to take his gas mask off because of this. When he was dying he took it off so he could feel truly vulnerable infront of Grigori before he died.

-When Gordon and Barney first became friends they made a trade. Barney teaches Gordon how to shoot a gun and Gordon teaches Barney how to tie a tie.

-Barney has gotten more sarcastic as he has aged.

-The resistance will often make fun of Breen's broadcasts and can't help but giggle at them when they walk by them.

-Kleiner feeds wild headcrabs like someone would feed feral cats.

-Although skibidi toilet is not a thing in the Half Life universe, G-Man knows about it. She doesn't know how and it scares him.

-Gordon doesn't know how to use a microwave. This is why the microwave incident happened.

-EVERYONE in the resistance makes fun of Barney and exaggerates his age to the extreme.

-Most scientists at Black Mesa were snotty to Gordon because he was so young.

-Gordon wants a cheeseburger so bad during half life 2 and its episodes.

Not tacking this onto my last reblog out of respect for OP and their notifications, but their excellent post (and my own recent visit with a "family friend" uncle) helped me put my finger on my specific issue with 95% of “Uncle Barney” headcanons.

Like, I am guilty of Uncle Barney crimes. To this day, I am continuing to perpetrate Uncle Barney crimes. I don’t hate the idea of Barney and Alyx having been close for much of her life. To be clear, there is zero canon evidence suggesting that this is the case, but I don’t think there’s anything inherently wrong with this headcanon. What I don’t like, though, is the way so many people who aggressively headcanon this relationship also conceptualize Alyx as some sort of naive forever-child, trapped in a state of arrested development where she still relates to Barney (and/or Dr. Kleiner, her canonical pseudo-uncle) like she would have at age 12. I am begging y'all to please stop infantilizing this poor woman.

A lot of the appeal of Uncle Barney (to me) is the opportunity to explore the ways Alyx’s relationship with an adult family friend would change over the course of her life. What was it like for her to come of age as one of the youngest people on Earth and slowly become peers with people she used to see as authority figures? What can she learn about herself, the people around her, and the situation they’re in when the older generation finally stops censoring themselves around her? How many of her childhood experiences might be suddenly re-contextualized by new information from her older friends? In a pre-HLA timeline, how does the untimely death of her father, her last living biological relative, affect her relationships with other "family" members?

I would love to see more people explore these kinds of questions in fanworks, instead of just having Alyx around to squeal “eew! gross!” when the male characters make out, act like they are her dads when she is canonically very close to her actual literal dad, or ask them questions about things that any reasonably intelligent 24-year-old could figure out on her own.

C'mon, folks. We can do better than this.

Ok so I told you most of my thoughts already lol

I was recently thinking about maybe how they first met. I think them meeting because Gordon got lost in the vents trying to help Kleiner with getting into his office would be really funny. Gordon wanted to be helpful and Kleiner mentioned how some guard named Barney would go in the vents and help so he tries and gets lost. Barney goes in the vents after and Gordon accidentally scares him and they get to Kleiners lab together. Then after this encounter they slowly become friends and the next time Kleiner loses his keys Gordon is able to get them before Barney since Barney showed him the way, and their races in the vents become a thing they do.

I still can’t decide if I prefer that they dated pre res-cas or not cause the office romance is sooo cute BUT the idea that they both had what they thought was an unrequited crush and neither being able to get over it. Barney because everyone kept insisting Gordon was coming back, hard to get over someone when everyone’s talking about them and you’re wondering what could’ve been. And Gordon because for him it’s been like 2 weeks (idk the freaking timeline) so he’s still got it bad. The idea that they both confessed their feelings and then like, didn’t start dating or didn’t talk about it properly is also just mmmm drama. Still adore all the pre res-cas stuff people come up with tho so freaking cute.

I also love the idea of Barney only knowing a tiny bit of sign language when he first meets Gordon, then taking time to learn it properly so they can talk easier. Barney still knows ASL after the combine and everything cause being able to communicate without talking is very helpful for a rebellion that doesn’t wanna be discovered. Since most of the rebellion leaders worked with Gordon they all knew at least some sign language, but Barney was the one who was the best and maybe got fluent in it? I’d imagine they’re all pretty fluent/good with it by hl2

OH I didn’t say much about post-canon ideas cause I don’t have many but basically Gordon and Barney are just fun uncles to Alyx and they hang out often. Alyx definitely overdramatically like gags or goes “ewww” when they kiss or whatever as a joke lmao but they know she’s just messing with them.

I really love Gordon being like an older brother to Alyx btw they’re friendship is sooo well done in hl2 specifically the episodes.

idk if you've ever been asked this but gman headcanons?

I take any opportunity to gush about this stupid bureaucrat!

His weird breathing is due to him not being accustomed to Earth's atmosphere. This is due to him being a shu'ulathoi- they're depicted in-game as wearing breathing masks as they can't breathe Earth's atmosphere, and the scrapped Airex levels in the HL2 beta expand on this.

He probably doesn't need to sleep or eat, but does so anyway because it passes the time.

Expanding on the shu'ulathoi theory, he's probably pretty young by their standards, even if he is in the visage of an old man. He's quite literally only 20 years old.

He can be quite self-destructive in pursuit of his goals. In HLA, Russell states that whatever's in the Vault "...really hates the Combine", so we know that rage is a pretty big motivator for him. An easter egg in HLA also depicts a suited man holding a gun to his head with crosses over his eyes, so I've sort of taken these two ideas and mashed them together: G-Man will do anything to destroy the Combine, even if it kills him.

Why Would the Rusted Knight Stay and Wait So Long?

This has been bugging me since Saturday.

He was rusted by the time Alyx meets him. Why didn't he lose hope of meeting team RWBY after so many years and give up?

He has had his time on therapy island. Time to reflect. Time to grow. Time to miss his team. He named Juniper after them. Tied his hair like Rens using Pyrrha's sash. He has parents and 7 sisters with family. He would want to go back home.

So why stay?

Because he met Alyx before them:

There are fresh footprints leading to the forest. Alyx gets up and walks. Crescent rose washes up right where she was immediately.

Let's say she saw it wash up.

Why doesn't she grab it?

It could be lost, no one is around. Except for the footprints. So, she follows them. Yet doesn't really seem to take notice of them along with C.R.

I've been wondering what happened to all the other people who fell when Cinder bombed them.

If she fell with a bunch of people after an explosion via Cinder. She knows about Huntsmen and she knows others fell with her. The only logical thing to do is to follow the footprints. The weapon could belong to someone who fell, they can find it. If she runs into them, she could point them to the direction of C.R.

If time is fucked up, then she landed in the original story, because she is it.

She meets Jaune who lands 10-15 years earlier than her and the footsteps, Alyx, C.R is meant to represent who lands up when in the Ever.

She could recognize him from the evacuation broadcast. (We know his face is exposed because he's described as handsome in the books.) Sparking a connection of safety towards him. Maybe his fighting skills seemed rusty to her, and his broken sword made her think he's retired.

The only thing is that she does figure out how to get out on her own. She may have been the only survivor who's not main cast to have gotten out of the Ever. Jaune didn't go back with her because he was waiting for team Ruby to land.

Since Alyx was a part of the evacuation and she fell before anybody else, and is just now landing into the Ever After, than time must be going cattywampus. Team RWBY might not have even landed yet. So, he stays behind, duty bound to protect and help the girls out of the Ever After. Just like he did for Alyx, perhaps others, for once being able to save the girls instead of sacrificing them.

This is Where the Theory Starts to Go Tinfoil Mode:

This cat toys with both the protagonist and the audience. They know more than they let on and purposefully omit details and makes vague statements about things. The Ciel bit got my attention.

Now this could be a nod that everyone thought the girl washed up on the beach was Ciel for the similar color scheme/outfit. The difference being their eyes, Alyx gold and Ciel blue. Along with their hair, Alyx long curly, brown hair and Ciel with short, straight asymmetrical blue hair.

Ciel has time illusions. Her 5 minutes of screen time show her staring at a clock, being the timekeeper, much like the white rabbit. Oh, who has a rabbit theme besides Jaune? Alyx.

Here's a theory I made earlier about the connections between Jaune and Alyx that will go into play/make this whole theory make more sense.

This one about Jaune and his role in Ever After

So, we have a girl who already exist in canon that, we the audience, know about along with the protagonists. Who's from Atlas, where people who fell came from if not Mantle. Who has a connection to Penny, someone who's death is weighing heavily on our M.C. An extremely similar color scheme and dress style of Alyx. Almost like that's what the Ciel we saw in the Vytal Festival would wear two years later. Oh, her eyes/appearance change? Wow what a unique and never seen/heard of before on this show.

If Jaune knew Ciel and not Alyx and helped her out of Ever After, he'd be reassured that she'd make it out and tell his team what happened. Except, when she left, she went back in time in Remnant.

-Barney and Alyx see eachother as siblings and often roughhouse and mess around with other resistance members.

-I LOVEEE beta Alyx's red hair so I imagine she has red streaks in her hair.

-Alyx likes to baby sit Lamarr when shes not busy and Isaac is. It doesn't happen often but she likes to dress up Lamarr in outfits.

-NOBODY in the resistance goes even NEAR Alyx when they have torn clothes. She'll insist on fixing it and then the entire thing will just be duct taped together.

-Alyx has eaten anything and everything. If you bring her a xen alien, she's eaten it. Not that she likes everything but she looks at things and it like "hm… I wonder if I would throw up if I ate this??"

-Adding onto the last thing. Alyx used to get super sick all the time from that. Now she has the immune system of a god.

-Alyx is a RLLY good mechanic. Bring her any part of a car and it'll be put to use within the hour.

-Her and Chell would be rlly good friends. Just a couple of gals in the apocalypse ^.^

-Alyx would get visits from G-Man when she was a kid and assumed he was a imaginary friend. He played along with it sometimes if he was in a good mood.

-Alyx is one of the most wanted in the resistance. Above Barney but below Kleiner and Eli.

-ALSOO she knows sign language and taught dog how to use it. I'm pretty sure this is canon but I cant remember… anyways she uses it to communicate with Gordon when the two of them are doing a stealth mission.
