"God," yn huffed as she, for an accurate description, waddled alongside her husband, Kimi Raikkonen into the Mclaren garage "if you don't keep it in your pants next time I will chop it off."

"Yes dear." Kimi replied with a smile on his face, hiding his laughter as best as he could to spare himself the lecture that would inevitably make him laugh harder- he can't help it, his wife is much more adorable trying to give him an earful with her puffed cheeks, stomping feet and her belly looking like it's about to pop at any second.

It hadn't even been 30 minutes before yn started to feel the heat getting to her, making her fan herself with the collar of her shirt while glaring at the fan that evidently did nothing to help her out.

"Everything alright dear?"

"No, no!" yn turned to look at her husband "it's so fucking hot i feel like my skin is melting off and your daughter wouldn't stop kicking my bladder so no, nothing is fucking alright!"

While the engineers around gulped, scared for their lives, Kimi bit his lips to avoid smiling at his very cute, frustrated wife. He had gotten used to her snapping at him whenever any little thing annoyed her, he knew it's the least he can do and she always apologises so no harm done really.

"It's okay, here, how about you go watch the race from the yacht? Will that be better?" Kimi whispered as he stood behind his wife with his hands underneath her belly, lifting it up to give his wife some rest.

"Oh my god," yn groaned in relief "I really needed that, I love you."

Staying like that for a few minutes, yn agreed that it would be much better if she watched the race from the yacht in her swimming suit, the atmosphere and the clothing would definitely make it much more comfortable for her. And just as she was about to leave, new company arrived.

"Ohhh, did he piss you off enough to leave him before a race?"

"Damn Kimi, don't make a pregnant woman that mad, especially not your wife."

The voices of Sebastian Vettel and Jenson Button joined the couple, along with the laugh of Mark Webber.

"Oh, shut up." As much as Kimi tells yn that he would rather eat chalk than willingly hang out with these guys, he is indeed fond of them.

"He didn't piss me off," yn pulled her husband down so she could kiss him, smiling upon hearing two of the three newcomers groan and a whistle (of course it's sebastian) "i just feel like I will burst any second so I am going to watch the race from One More Toy"

Placing one palm on her belly while his other rests on her cheek, Kimi smiled at his wife "be safe, yes?"

"I'll be so safe." Sebastian continued as they both reincarnated the way Kimi and Yn were standing a few seconds ago; Jenson's hands on Sebastian's stomach and cheek

MLP rewrite AU - Ideas on Human Sombra in EQG?

Okay so this is Complicated because I have to go into my rewrite for Pony!Sombra first because that's a HELL of a backstory.

So this has some to do with the larger lore surrounding the Immortals. Namely Azura who was the one who did a lot of Magic Crystal-related things like the entire Crystal Empire/Crystal Heart system and the Elements of Harmony themselves (I kinda go back and forth on which is the 'prototype' for the other).

Anyway Azura, having created the Crystal Empire, was also it's ruler. Though she gave the throne to her daughter, Lazuli, and returned to the Aether.

Lazuli had two children of her own, Obsidian and Emerald. And she did play favorites. Though Obsidian was older, he was 'just' a Unicorn while Emerald was an Alicorn, and therefore the latter was more 'fit' to rule the Empire.

You'd think this would cause a rivalry but the pair were actually very close and did their best to reject their mother's orders. Both believed that Obsidian was much better at the actual duties involved with running a kingdom while Emerald felt her talents were far better suited for the Guard.

Though they tried to prove to Lazuli that Obsidian would make a good leader, they agreed on ruling together if the time came. Emerald being the technical one in charge, but having Obsidian as an advisor.

This plan had to change due to Emerald's love life. Though same-gender marriages were always fine in Equestria(It's ruled by a bunch of queer horses you think they'd outlaw gay marriage?), being a Royal, especially the leader of a Kingdom, comes with an expectation of legitimate heirs. Which meant that Emerald marrying the mare she'd fallen for was out of the question.

This renewed their efforts to change Lazuli's mind. And a deadline in place: Emerald's coronation as Lazuli's heir. Both spent their time doing everything they could. Though Emerald's chances were hindered by preparation for said coronation, Obsidian doubled down. Spending every waking moment and putting off sleep to try and find something. Some skill that would prove to Lazuli that he was worthy, some spell to Ascend himself, anything and everything.

On the morning of the Coronation, after spending sleepless nights, desperate for something, the shadows begin to whisper. Offering a deal. Give him the power to prove Lazuli wrong, to make sure he rules the Empire.

Well. Deals with Demons don't always end well. (I left the identity of the Demon vague at some point, but I may end up making it be Grogar. Real Grogar not whatever the hell Discord did in Season 9).

Next thing anyone knows, Lazuli is dead. Emerald is screaming for everyone to run for their lives. A handful make it out of the Empire before the barriers go up, and the reign of King Sombra begins.

Somehow, the Empire disappears. For over 1.000 years. When it comes back, well. You know. Cadence and the Crystal Heart. It's power blasting 'Sombra' to bits.

Or did it? Is he dead, or was Obsidian freed from the Demon's curse?

Now, as for the Human!Counterpart:

THis is one of the events that gets a little fucky due to the condensed timeline. Like, Azura should be the same age as Celestia/Luna/Discord/Chrysalis, but also somehow a grandmother? And Emerald is Cadence's ancestor, but also currently alive? Also the lack of Kingdoms and Magic and Demons. (well. Technically the larger crossoververse exists, but that's.... irrelevant right now.)

For the moment, the exact events are vague. Somehow they're all related. Lazuli is dead. Emerald is missing. Obsidian wasn't 'okay' mentally for a bit, but apparently Sci-Twi punching him in the face helped. (he spooked her and Shining taught her how to fight back). So Obsidian is.... chill. For now. Doing better.

but yeah big agree on the issue starting in season 1 and the larger foreign threat cop out almost being inevitable when the villains can't be allowed to be right/systems allowed to change.

like even as someone who only knows league through the osmosis grapevine, even i knew riot has a track record of centrist writing. so not sure what i was expecting lol, guess i hoped they'd have a little more tact/not be so brazen (cough black jinxer seeing an enforcer be nice to an old lady ONE time and goes to bat/dies for Piltover in an enforcer uniform)??? /head in my hands

like i love a good tragedy but season 2...wasn't that. heck it wasn't even bittersweet imo, just kinda depressing, masquerading as aspirational/realistic.

like of course this is where stuff goes when the writers believe systems are inherently good and fault lies with individuals. soon as Piltover was about to """grant""" Zaun independence and that gets ruined by an ~undesirable~ knew we were cooked. machine herald Viktor would've required a more grounded/nuanced approach they couldn't just ramp/scale with minimal effort. which isn't to excuse where the writing falters badly but can't say i'm shocked.

if they "had" to go the purple route, wish they'd at least leaned into the hextech as technical process all the way through. interfacing with power unfathomably large/complex is interesting but boiling down to big power always bad is kinda boring, esp for a narrative that believes power int the right hands is fine. it would've been more interesting for it to function like a system/character to be understood rather than a godly power (that can only really be wielded by the chosen/doom everyone for wanting a better world).

anyway unfortunately now i'm desperate to read some rewrites cause these characters are too interesting to leave ending like that. but god i do not wanna wade through the racism/ableism.

like Sky and Isha getting dusted/used by the narrative like that was just foul??? in 2024?? give me Jayce and Heimerdinger actually apologizing for their complicity, doing more to right it than just dying (what can i say as a Silco fan—i wanna see characters live/FIGHT for the cause). did Viktor, a highly visible disabled character have to becoming specifically a eugenicist to have a villain arc all while his autonomy over his own actions is in question? that seems...particularly insensitive at this moment in history. did Vi have to become a cop and be down to gas her people that quick after years of daily beatings? and the fact that everything Viktor ever did was for nothing, that the best possible outcome he could hope for across EVERY UNIVERSE/TIMELINE is to not die alone/die while comforting someone who still doesn't fully understand him (yes i'm a Jayce speech hater, as gorgeous/touching as the visuals are). and uh maybe a dictator facing consequences that don't involve disability as "punishment"?

it's been 3 minutes since i read the last chapter and i just wanna ask how are our boys doing right now? will they eventually tell kris' parents that they were fake-dating but are together now? was the first officially-in-a-relationship sex good? how long has bojan been in love with kris? did he realize it during their whole friends-with-benefits thing or earlier?

okay okay okay lets get into it

1. how are they doing right now? well timeline wise, currently they are suffering. but right after the end of the fic? doing fantastic. im imagining since its a friday, kris takes another sick day and bojan skips his classes just bc fuck that, and they just went through a lot and finally have each other again and theyre both not willing to let the other out of their sight again for even just a second. kiki has probably noticed kris has not been doing so well lately, so he gladly covers kris' shift. they're gonna just lie in bed a little bit, answer texts from the other guys making sure the others know theyre doing fine, and then they take jans advice and fuck like rabbits.

on saturday they go to band practice together again and maybe just bc kris is a little shit hes gonna go "yeah the song was nice but the guitar could use some improvement" and maybe thats when they start working a third guitar into songs instead of just kris taking over bojans parts? who knows?

2. will they tell kris' parents that theyre fake-dating but together now? i think kris would want to keep that one a secret, mainly bc he knows theyre never gonna let him live it down and maks definitely wont, but he (very begrudgingly) does tell them. and they have a good laugh about it. for all eternity. bc i think miha and chantal are the kind of people who would find that shit hilaaaaaarious and bring it up all the time, they think its very very funny

and they also obv love bojan and are very glad to have him properly in their family now <3

3. was the first in-relarionship sex good? it was the fucking best. they didnt have to hold back anymore and enough "i love you"s were said to fill a book with it and then some. it was incredible.

4. how long has bojan been in love with kris? god i wish i knew. i just write the guy, i dont know what the fuck is going on inside his head. i think hes had a mild crush on kris for a while, over the last few years, not very deep or meaningful, mostly when kris picked up jan or smthn bojan would go "damn hes handsome" but that was the extent of it - also bc he was still struggling with his sexuality then.

i think over the holidate timeline .. hm. i imagine that crush skyrocketed when kris just slammed him against the wall that one night and then proceeded to give him the best head hes ever had lol. and i think he definitely acknowledged it as a crush then and it slowly developed into more. i think he maybe realised he was in love shortly after kris stayed with him when he was sick? the major factors there being that kris didnt just take care of him, but actually cared for him. he didnt just drop off some meds and left, he actually took the time to stay with bojan, took a sick day just to be with him, cooked for him, made sure he ate and drank enough, kept him company, everything. thats already an admission of love if you ask me. (both platonically or romantically) but that really did a number on bojan.

i even think bojan let himself admit that it was love pretty early on, but always had the safety layer of "we're just doing this for fun, so its okay if im in love with him bc the "only" consequence is having my own heart broken lol" but then when kris wrote him dopamin and bojan realised this could all be real, suddenly there were more potential consequences to deal with and well you read the last chapter lol

Crack quartet timeline 2: electric boogaloo

A reminder to everyone that the crack quartet can only ever happen years and years after canon when everyone involved is significantly older and able to consent, so please keep that in mind before y'all come at me

Now that that's out of the way!

When we last left the crack quartet timeline, Viren had returned to Katolis castle and was causing absolute mayhem in the crack quartet family unit. At this stage, Ezran's council consists of Ez, Callum, Rayla, Soren, Barius, Opeli (resigned from High Cleric but still on the council as per Ezran's request) and Clio (the new High Cleric). By now, Callum and Rayla have a little girl called Sarai, Ez is formally courting Claudia, and Soren and Opeli have been told they're expecting twins.

If you haven't read the snake (which I swear I'll finish), our gang agrees (for a very loose definition of agreeing) to give Viren a trial. Callum is furious and has been an absolute asshole about it but it goes ahead with Callum prosecuting and Soren begrudgingly representing his father (because if it's not him, it's Opeli and she is heavily pregnant at this point so...). Viren is found guilty but Ez refuses to execute him (he Doesn't Want To Be That Kind of King) and exiles him instead.

Claudia finds herself with a decision to make: she has always wanted to keep her family together and now it's being torn apart again. The others are SUPER CONCERNED for a hot minute, because if she leaves and breaks Ezran's heart and chooses her father AGAIN after everything that's happened, they will not be able to forgive her a second time. In the end, it's not that difficult a decision to make. Ezran is here. Soren is here. She will have two brand new nieces in the summer. She chooses to stay.

Callum is not happy about Ez's decision but he can't keep disagreeing with him like this either, and together they agree that they both might benefit from a little bit of space. Callum never really wanted to be a prince anyway, and Ez needs the space to come into his own and find his own way, without being parented by his brother. It's tearful, but ultimately for the best, and they're still going to be brothers no matter what. It's the end of an era, but the beginning of a new one too. Callum and Rayla pack up and head for the Silvergrove. Ez et al see them off and promise to come and visit once they've settled in.

Callum and Rayla run into Corvus and Terry on the way who are, to their surprise, living happily together in a partnership no one expected and have been quietly keeping up with the Katolis Castle soap opera. They're glad everything's settling down and gladder still to meet baby Sarai. They catch up before Callum and Rayla continue on their way.

Soren and Opeli's twin girls are born the following summer. It's a tough labour, but the three of them come out fine and Soren heads out to Temple Hill in a rare show of faith to thank the goddesses his wife had once devoted herself to for keeping his family safe. Callum and Rayla return to the castle to offer their support and so Sarai can meet her new cousins. Ez and Callum are reunited and happy to be together again. Tentatively, Ezran tells his brother that he is considering marrying Claudia. Callum takes it well! He's just happy that Ez is happy, even if he's still a little apprehensive about Claudia's presence in the castle.

Claudia takes it less well. She knows what she is and what she's done. She knows how this will look to people who know of her crimes but don't know her. When Ezran asks, she says no. Then she disappears.

Callum is Fucking Furious. How dare she. How dare she hurt his brother like that. How dare she leave. This isn't digging up any old wounds At All. And although he promises Rayla that this has nothing to do with what happened when they were kids, Rayla still remembers how much she hurt him and can't help but wonder if he still feels that sting, even after all this time. And she wants to fix this! She can't stand seeing her boys hurt like this. And who would know where Claudia went better than

Soren. The poor man is exhausted. Y'all thought one newborn was bad—try two. He and Opeli take turns with the girls but the added stress of Claudia disappearing isn't doing them any favours. But he has enough brain left in him to guess the one place Claudia might have gone.

He reaches out to Corvus and Terry who are a hub for information at this point, and they point him the direction of a small town in the Independent Isles. There's an ex-mage over there that they keep hearing about. Apparently he was exiled from Katolis last winter. Does that help at all?

Sure does. But who to send? Ez can't go, and Callum shouldn't go, and Rayla can't go by herself. Soren doesn't want to leave Opeli but, in her words, their duty is to Ezran, and Ezran needs help. Claudia is his sister too and Opeli insists she'll be fine with the twins. He should go with Rayla. Reluctantly, he goes, and they're halfway out to the Independent Isles when who should they find stowed away in the back of their carriage but Ezran, who is sick and tired of having other people deal with his problems for him. If anyone's going to convince Claudia to come home, it's going to be him.

They find Viren helping to rebuild a village on the coast of one of the Independent Isles. It's awkward, but Viren is definitely better than he was when they saw him last, and he's glad to know that Soren and the twins are doing well. He hopes to meet them one day but won't hold Soren to that if he doesn't feel comfortable with it, but Soren surprises them both with "maybe one day". Viren tells them that Claudia was here but left again not long after. He asks Ezran what happened. Ezran won't say. Still, he tells them Claudia went to Del Bar and wishes them well.

@raayllum and I have discussed this At Length, but they find Claudia hiding in Del Bar and seeking guidance from Lissa. Lissa is more surprised than anyone to see the King of Katolis at her door with her son and an elven ambassador, but ultimately, whatever happens next is Claudia decision.

What happens next? I don't know yet! But Claudia does eventually come back, and everything does eventually work out. If I ever finish the snake, I'll write this too. And I might be crazy but the Katolis Castle soap is never ending and full of drama and I love that for them.

so. while my mind is still processing the tsc announcement i think i am finally read to try and answer this ask djdjdjjdjd ((had to add a read more because this got longer than i intended 🧍🏼‍♀️))

nora said it’s about jean learning to live, so i assume the story will either overlap a little with the og series’ timeline or begin with jean’s start at usc (or somewhere close to that). i don’t expect a bigger time jump than that tbh. also, thinking about pov i assume it’s single narrator/main focalizer (hopefully jean!). i’d be very surprised by a multiple pov narration happening—doesn’t really feel like a nora thing to do. to me. also i assume it's gonna be a one book thing. not a series.

i do not expect the foxes to be a big part of the story beyond maybe seeing them at a banquet or championship game. i cannot even see renee being a big part of the plot tbh. ((but don’t be fooled i will eat up these glimpse for sure)) nora seemed so. hesitant? to touch tfc that i don’t assume she wants to include them much.

we have no idea how long the book is going to be, but i assume it’s not gonna be longer than tkm? so as much as i love jerejean i don’t think it’s gonna be a thing nora is going to explore with this story. not just because of things she said in the past, but also because i think it would be hard to deal with jean working through his trauma and moving on to live life and not just exist AND develop a relationship. ((same goes for the renee/jean pairing tbh)). and i am fine with that. the most important thing for me about this book will be jean and seeing him heal and adjust and get better. i don’t NEED more. if we get more that’s great too, but i have my doubts about that.

i assume we will still get a decent amount of jeremy and jean interactions because i can really see jeremy (as captain but also just as the person i assume him to be) to take on the responsibility of caring for jean and help him recover from everything he has been through with riko and tetsuji. i think not matter what happens he’ll have a big part in helping jean navigate his new environment.

and omg do i expect jean to STRUGGLE!! the trojans are THEE anti-thesis to the ravens in attitude so i see jean really being a slightly disruptive force at first. while i think he’ll adjust to the trojan way i cannot see him being like the others. he’ll always be a little different but i think it will make the trojans stronger (i can totally see jean teach them raven drills lol).

now moving on from that and more into trojans and exy territory I WANT TO SEE THE TEAM DYNAMIC SO BAD. and i am sure we will see it. i want to see the trojans be soooo patient with jean and absorb his anger and hurt and trauma and transform it into something bearable. i want for jean to HAVE FUN playing exy and not just play it because he has to. i want him to really fall in love with the sport in a way that is not affected by the fact that the moriyama still own his game.

at the same time i want to see him build a life outside of exy. i want him to de-centre exy and find hobbies that fulfill him. i want him to have genuine friends. i want him to spend time like other 20 somethings. i want him to get a taste for a normal life and mundanity. and i want him to like it. i want him to learn to sit in that feeling of just. being okay. without the fear of things going sideways at any time. i want for tenderness and not violence to become the norm.

as for stuff i’d LOVE to see. i know i just said i don’t expect to see much of the foxes, i would kill for a jean and kevin interaction that has them Talk to each other about the past and the present and maybe even the future. not sure we’ll get that but a girl can dream. i honestly don’t expect a neil and jean reunion. but who knows? ((also. maybe jean reuniting with his sister??? that would be something wouldn’t it.))

i am a little scared and a little nervous to see what tsc will be about and how jean’s story will play out, but i do trust nora to do the characters and the story and us justice. ((that doesn’t necessarily mean giving us what we want but the story as a whole being a good fit for her characters and the aftg thesis of exploring life after trauma)). i also hope she won’t mess with aftg too much. i don’t think she will. but just to have it said.

in the end the only thing i want out of tsc is jean getting to a point where he feels okay and sees a future for himself that makes him want to live rather than simply exist. i want to see him embrace his new found freedom and get hobbies and interests and friends and break out of ravens’ nest MENTALLY for good. i want him to be able to look at himself in the mirror and be okay with the person he is. and excited to become the person he’s slowly becoming. i want him to learn to live life in the sun <3

When Mr Tony had told Kenta to organise for Kim to be picked up from the airport and taken to the hotel, he definitely hadn't meant for Kenta to do the chauffeuring himself. But finding the loopholes in Tony's orders was how Kenta managed his life these days, so he was waiting in Arrivals in his usual black suit with a printed sign at 6pm the following Tuesday, surrounded by a group of men attired and be-signed much the same. Which was probably why Kim didn't give Kenta a second glance as he walked up. No big deal; Kenta’s used to being overlooked. “K’Kim?” he asks in polite confirmation, although he recognises Kim very well from the photographs he’s studied. Kim gives him a nod. There's a post from forever ago about someone who's supervisor called their partner "Boytoy" at work, like, exclusively. And the guy knew and was fine with it, but anyway he came in one day and the op went "Mr. Toy, I presume?" and he went "The very one." This is very much Dick and Kate. also somehow he meets Anthony Bourdain, and this is a Good Timeline where he's still alive and Dick winds up traveling with him for a few episodes? That would be a fun dichotomy

Kate turns her back for five seconds and Clint and Dick have gone undercover at a circus. Kate expected this from Clint, but Dick knows better. Which prompts Dick explaining that CLINT is the brains of the operation, not Dick, he's the beauty, and Clint getting mad because HE'S the beauty, and Kate just sighs. Clearly neither of you are the brains.

Dick loves that there are no expectations of him in Kate's universe. It's like a vacation. He gets to be a himbo here. There's absolutely a pic of them on insta that he captioned "this barbie is an Avenger. He's just ken" and he will not HEAR Kate's arguments about how technically by Barbie/Ken rules he is also a Barbie. Dick pouts and is like I AM KENOUGH.

All of this leads to a mostly funny conception the Avengers have of Dick. They know he's Nightwing, he doesn't really need a secret identity here, but they don't...get it. He's bouncy and casual because he's still watching Kate's teams, figuring out how best to support, and he doesn't want to step on Kate's toes by accidentally being Too In Charge. So there's this idea that he really IS a himbo until Kate gets injured or captured. If she gets injured on a mission he's on? Look. It clears things up right away. He will absolutely rip apart whatever faction or organization caused that to happen with his bare hands. And God for-fucking-bid he encounters the actual individual responsible for harming her. I'm not saying someone's getting kicked off of a roof but, someone is moving from the roof to the sidewalk in the most expedient way possible.

This is also funny because it makes very clear how different their preferred fighting styles are, because Kate picked A VERY DEFENSIBLE POSITION, please stop worrying, Dick. And she's right! It is! IF YOUR PREFERRED WEAPON IS RANGED.

Now Dick is standing over his mostly unconscious girlfriend who looks like her face got scraped against the ground (because it did), preparing to defend them from all sides. fucking snipers.

It also leads to a fun moment where Kate can't lead. Eli isn't there, so normally command of the team would slide into Cap's purview (if cap and whoever his second is are down, Avengers command would slide over to Kate) so Cap is getting ready to start giving the YA some orders and Dick, not even THINKING about it, just kind of assumes command of the young Avengers and NONE OF THEM QUESTION IT???? He doesn't lead like Kate. He doesn't give orders like Kate, he doesn't even sound like Kate, with cadence or whatever. But there's something that is just kate like enough that her team is like yep this is correct. (The same thing will happen in reverse with the titans) After that the Avengers stop roasting him behind Kate's back.

Also, THE HIP HOLES. look. We need to admit that Kate, canonically, does not have great taste in her avengering uniform. Why did she choose this look? why is she so attached to it?

Like if Kate has the audacity to genuinely criticize discowing?? If for some reason she's wearing a different costume or they got tossed into Gotham in their civvies, her team will absolutely throw her under the bus in order to get brownie points with the batkids.

i need to do my homework but ANYWAYS not to talk about the star trek reboot movies on main again but i’m starting to realize that maybe the star trek reboot movies give me a lot of hope now that i’m in my twenties, because whether accidentally or not, there’s something really weirdly reassuring about seeing the enterprise crew in their youth, messy and still figuring things out, and yet still winding up exactly where they need to be. like, when we meet jim, he’s impulsive and impatient and flat-out bored with his own life, so he winds up picking fights and telling himself that yeah, fine, being the smartest guy in the midwest is good enough for him, until he’s told that it’s not--and even when he joins starfleet, he winds up getting on academic suspension and breaks a million codes along the way. then we’ve got bones, who we find fresh after his divorce. the guy is fucking day drinking at 0800. and then we’ve got spock, who’s so clearly angry and resentful of something, maybe a little bit of everything, but that’s what you get as being a mixed-race kid-slash-minority kid i guess (phew). then we’ve got chekov, who’s like. a literal 17 year old. (a seventeen year old. my baby brother is currently seventeen years old. i would have a heart attack if he told me he’s heading up to space now.) then we’ve got sulu, who literally reaches the bridge because some guy was conveniently sick, so he had to fill in. he messes up literally in the first two seconds. then we’ve got scotty, who’s out in the buttfuck middle of nowhere, with no live organism except for keenser and the scary creepy-crawlies outside. uhura might be the only one who has her shit together, but also. she is dating her former professor. which, you know, seeing that former professor is spock, whatever, go off girlie and etc.

my point is that star trek: 2009, as flawed and as messy as it is, still accidentally becomes really fucking good when you realize that this movie is about the enterprise crew when they’re in their youth, and also when they’re coming together even after a total shift in their timeline. so what’s rather lovely about the reboot movies is that not only do they accidentally say that no matter the timeline, you’ll wind up with the people who you were meant to be with, but also. no matter the timeline and no matter how many fucking problems you have-slash-had, you will still wind up precisely where you need to be, with the people who you were always meant to love, and maybe that’s a little bit of comfort in this weird time that we’re living in

I’ve Googled about chronic pain but I think I saw a few posts you made about being able to relate to him with your own experience so I wondered if you had any tips?

Sure, I don’t mind answering this at all! I’ll try to be as informative as possible without rambling too much. Um I’ll pretty much tell you the parts of my experience that I think could also apply to him.

For context I’m pretty sure Sokka broke his lower leg and I fucked up my knee, but both injuries were from a high-impact fall. Also as a timeline note, I was probably around 20 when mine occurred but I’m in my late 20s now so that might be useful to know.

I also want to say that Sokka had access to Katara and a lot of great healers and I was in America when I got hurt— so I went to the doctor once for them to take an X-ray and tell me how bad I fucked up but then was kind of left on my own after that and didn’t do any PT or anything even after it healed so I’d LIKE to think Sokka’s injury healed better than mine? I do kind of HC a good chunk of his pain as being psychosomatic.

THAT BEING SAID, let’s talk about the pain. It hurt constantly for months and months right after the injury, and then actually I had a couple of years where everything was fine?? Then I started getting Older and now it’s always bothering me in some way or another. It’s a little different because I’m dealing with a joint, but it’s always crunchy and creaky. Like it’s impossible for me to walk up stairs without anyone hearing. It always LOOKS okay, but some days it just feels swollen up like a balloon. There are days when it just throbs, and on really bad days the pain just stabs, even when I’m not putting weight on it.

Actually, on the worst days, the pain is the same whether I’m walking/standing or resting. For me, weather doesn’t seem to play a factor but I do live somewhere where it is constantly super humid every day year round, actually really similar to how the Fire Nation would be, so keep that in mind I guess.

What helps the pain? Nothing really. Because I’m dealing with a joint I take glucosamine when I can, pain meds on bad days but I really wonder if they even do anything for it. Sometimes I wear a knee brace for extra support, especially if I’m hiking which I love. Actually pressure helps the most, like wrapping it up tight.

Speaking of hiking, the pain was always worst for me going uphill/upstairs, but I’m getting to an age now where I’m really starting to notice it going downhill/downstairs too, like it feels weak at those times.

There is also a bit of a sense of fear or impending doom around it? Like it’s manageable for now but has gotten worse over the years, and I’m a very independent person who relies a LOT on walking in my day to day life, and like I said my biggest hobby is hiking/bouldering/challenging stuff. I love to be active and I know my time for all that is going to run out at some point, probably sooner than later. I’m especially conscious of it on a bad day when I do have to cancel a hike. I used to enjoy running, but already can’t do that anymore. So that part sucks.

Another thing I want to point out for Sokka is if he did hurt his leg, then the bones probably healed in a way that would leave him with one leg shorter than the other, which down the line could make some big problems for the rest of his body, like his rib cage would shift and that would be a whole other thing.

So I dunno, lots to think about here. I hope that helps a bit, and I can answer more questions about this if you like.

Identity Rewrite, Part 1

@drclairefinn talked about there not being many blogs posting about The Orville these days. So, I decided to try and reactivate my old hyperfixation and cook up something. This might not be what you were looking for, but it's the only thing I could get my brain to do. So, you'll be getting lots of drama, featuring a time-traveller OC and her boyfriend Gordon, mainly. This is something that I've been spinning in my mind like a rotisserie chicken since I first watched the episode, so let's see how it holds up. Also features a lot of OC lore, but I tried to explain everything. Because of that, this chapter is mostly build-up. But we're getting somewhere.

Gordon was walking through the corridors of the Orville, headed to sick bay. It was still a little hard to believe: Isaac was supposedly shut off. The lights that were his eyes had gone out and now he was motionless, maybe even lifeless. People died, yes, but Gordon would have never thought it could happen to Isaac - and not like this. Not that suddenly. Or maybe that was the only way it could happen to a Kaylon. Gordon had already hated waiting for his shift to end and now he felt he finally had to go see him, despite the fact that he probably couldn’t do anything. The least he could do was check up on his friend.

When he turned the corner to sick bay, he almost bumped into Raevyn who had her eyes fixated on a small box in her hands.

“Woah, hey,” he gasped.

“Hey,” Raevyn replied.

Something about her was off. Far off. She was nervous, anxious even.

“Did you just come from Isaac?” Gordon asked.

“Yeah. Yeah. He’s… well, uh, he’s motionless.”

“But they haven’t given up on him yet, right? There’s still hope.”

“Yeah.”

“Hey, wait, you know what’s gonna happen,” Gordon suddenly remembered. “You’ve lived through this before in your old timeline. - Just for my nerves: He’s gonna be alright, right?”

“Yeah, he’s gonna be fine,” Raevyn confirmed, a soft smile on her lips.

“Good. … Then what are you so worried about?”

“Well, uh…”

“C’mon, you can tell me, baby,” Gordon said, taking her hands into his. They were warm as always - telling sign of the electricity running in her veins. The fingertips of her right hand were coarse from the overcharge scars on them. Through a gap between her fingers, he felt just a tiny part of the cold exterior of the box she was holding on his skin. “Is it about the box you got there?”

“The box is part of it.”

“What’cha got in there? Some secret weapon? Top secret info?”

“Headache pills.”

“Oh no, did they get worse again?”

“Not yet. But they’re gonna. I can already feel one coming on.”

That was when Gordon understood. “Something’s gonna happen, isn’t it? That’s why you’re so nervous.”

“To be honest,” Raevyn sighed, “yes. It’s something I’d rather not go through again.”

“We’ll get through it together,” Gordon assured her with a winning smile. “Just like we always do.”

Raevyn smiled too and nodded. “We’re gonna be brave about it.”

“Eh, you know I’m not too good at that.”

“You’re braver than you know. I think you’re pretty grand.”

Gordon smiled and kissed her, feeling her warm, soft lips on his. A wave of happiness overcame him, not just his own, but the telepathic gust of emotions she sent out, too. But there was nervosity reaching him as well, that characteristic flickering that could send you to the edge if it got too bad. That was one thing about Raevyn, she had stopped hiding her emotions from him a long time ago, letting her mind ease completely into his, showering him in trust. Sometimes, Gordon even thought he could sense her all on his own, without her establishing a telepathic connection, if her emotions were strong enough. They were like Vulcans, he thought, only far more emotional and far from logical.

Thank you, baby, he heard her voice in his head as they parted.

They stood there for a few more seconds, enveloping each other in a hug. But then, they each had to go their own way.

In sick bay, Gordon stood by Isaac’s bed for a while, watching him lie there. In a cruel way, it reminded him of the day Isaac had amputated his leg and they had both been in sick bay together. Isaac’s idea of a practical joke. A little misguided, but also maybe one of the best pranks Gordon had ever seen. Coincidentally, it was also the day Gordon had first met Raevyn. Nobody had believed her that she was from the future at first. Why would they? But through the troubles caused by Pria Lavesque, the crew had grown to trust and believe her. Now, over a year later, she was officially Chief of Security - again, one could say - and Gordon couldn’t imagine his life without her.

But he did wonder: What could she be so worried about? Up until now, she had taken most situations with a healthy degree of certainty that everything would be fine. She had trusted in the mission to Krill space, taken the disappearance of the Finn family with a calm state of mind, even the Church of Kelly and the encounter with the Regorians hadn’t shaken her. The only time she had ever been worried was for John on Sargus 4 - and correctly so. Had it not been for her, he would have had his mind fried. In turn, she had fried hers, though only figuratively, luckily.

Gordon found his thoughts spinning and quickly shook them off. It probably wasn’t that bad, right? Raevyn got emotional, too, she could just be worried about nothing. Besides, she had said that Isaac would be alright, so that would be no issue. And anything else, Gordon was sure of it, they would work through together, because he loved her and they had always supported each other, and if he wasn’t enough, they had friends that could help. Together, there was nothing they couldn’t do. Their wacky adventures were proof of that.

So, Gordon held on to the positive things: Isaac would be okay. That much was sure. So, as they were docked on Kaylon, he looked down on the planet with interest, free from the worries about Isaac others might have. He didn’t know how far the buildings went down or up, gigantic skyscrapers with antennae at their top were spread out until beyond the horizon, looking almost like needles. Every now and then, he saw a couple of Kaylon. They all looked the same, lacking all individuality. Only one thing about Isaac was different: While the other Kaylon’s eyes were orange, his were blue. Had they always looked that way or had he had them changed later because of the association with evil robots from movies humans might have? Gordon doubted it. Another question that came to his mind was whether they all had names. He had always wondered how Isaac had gotten his name. Had he chosen it himself? Had it been assigned to him? That was something he could finally ask him once he came back.

With questions like this, Gordon kept himself entertained until news came back on Isaac - and he felt a little betrayed: Isaac wasn’t coming back. His assignment was, apparently, completed and that was the end of it. It felt like a punch to the gut, but… that was just how he was. Logical to a fault. You could even call him cold. No, that would be unfair. In typical Union tradition, the crew of the Orville decided to host a goodbye party for Isaac. Gordon even prepared a song. The party went really well - everyone had fun and even Isaac seemed to enjoy himself, as much as he could be. Still, Raevyn had a melancholy air about her. She was sitting by the bar, drinking Tehiko rum all by herself. So, Gordon joined her.

“Are you alright?” he asked, trying to read the look in her softly glowing eyes.

“Yeah, I’m fine,” Raevyn murmured. “It’s just my head.”

“Too many people in the room?”

“Yeah, that’s probably it.”

“You don’t mean that.”

Raevyn chuckled and shook her head. “Dammit, Gordon, you’ve gotten too good at reading me. Are you a telepath too?”

“No,” Gordon said with a smile, “I’ve just been spending too much time with you - and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. So what’s really going on? Stress?”

“You got it.”

“We’re at a party and you still can’t let go. Has to be pretty bad, huh?”

“Yup. And you gotta stop asking because I can’t tell you anything.”

Gordon sighed heavily. “Temporal law. God, I’ve started to hate it.”

“Yeah, count me in.”

“I bet you’ve got it worse.”

“I’m just glad they let me stay and didn’t lock me up. You know, since time travellers are supposed to influence the time they land in as little as possible. But then they decided ‘hey, this is the one person who knows what the timeline’s supposed to be like, so let’s keep her around’.”

“I’m glad they did.”

“Yeah, but now I’m responsible.”

“You’re not responsible,” Gordon reminded her. “That’s why you’re always so on edge when something happens, you’re putting too much pressure on yourself.”

“Well, what am I supposed to do?”

“Just let it happen.”

Raevyn frowned. “I get you’re trying to make me feel better,” she mumbled, “but there’s nothing you can say that could make this okay. What’s coming up is far from anything we’ve gone through up until now because- No, I’m talking too much again. You have no idea how much I’d just like to dump all my emotions out in front of you but I can’t. It’s not that I don’t trust you, you’ve got to believe me, it’s just-”

“Temporal law, I know, I know,” Gordon grumbled. Oh, how he hated it. “But you’ve got to promise me one thing: As soon as you think you can say something, let me help you. I can’t stand seeing you like this. It’s you and me, okay?”

“Alright,” Raevyn said and gave him a weak smile. “I promise.”

She reached for his hand across the gap between the bar stools. Gordon took it and squeezed it lightly, hoping it would give her strength. Whatever was coming at them, he promised himself he’d be ready.
