dude i know this is so toxic of me but i am beginning to become a small dog hater
#i know they’re out there but no joke i have yet to meet one that’s well-trained#like they just make me so uncomfortable at this point#and also sad bc it’s like. yeah they end up super aggressive and bite-y or obnoxious bc their boundaries aren’t respected or they’re not#trained. which isn’t their fault as animals but fuck i hate dealing with them#like my housemate’s dog literally cannot tolerate hal being in the same room with her & she runs at him and jumps at him snarling and#snapping#and she jumps up and licks you and runs at you and if you’re sitting she’ll just join you and climb on you but she’s scary to physically#move bc she’ll bite#and she literally does not listen to any commands#i tried bonding with her and teaching her some tricks but she like. also literally just didn’t respond to clicker training#like she’s bitten a few friends at this point!#also last night at midnight the shower broke and 2 neighbors came over to help & she’s like just ceaselessly barking super loud and high#pitched and then snarling and running at hal and snapping at people

Whumptober day 27: forgotten/locked away/immortal (full under the cut)
Find the royal au masterpost here
These poor puppies have no idea why someone’s huddled in their house; Abram might not find it so bad if he wasn’t too hungry and tired to keep them from playing too rough with him.
#i want this to be something Abram gets exposure therapy for#like Andrew or Day or Katelyn take him out to Palmetto’s kennels and they play with the dogs together#now that they know what to watch out for they can safely take care of the dogs and the kennels#soon enough abram can go all on his own#and he does sometimes#just to remind himself that he actually has recovered at least a little#maybe when he’s frustrated with something else#plus the different breeds of dogs help#and all the dogs are very nice all the time#evermore’s were trained to *act* vicious#but they’re not actually aggressive to people#the biggest difference is#as stated#Abram’s much more capable of being able to play with Aaron’s hounds in palmetto#and push them off him when he wants#anyway#whumptober#emry whumptober 2023#fan art#my art#aftg#all for the game#neil josten#dogs#royal au

oh and btw soul's dog leg is specifically a livestock guardian dog. he protects the other two, loyally watching over them and saving them from danger. intimidating yet caring, he sees heart and mind as both his flock and the predators he needs to protect them from.
#like many working breeds he can also be incredibly on edge when he doesn't have a job to do#with his anxieties during concord#yayyy dog symbolism#cccc#chonnys charming chaos compendium#chonny jash#cj soul#tridential tirade#if i had to pick a breed... anatolian shepherd probably#not particularly social and very wary of strangers but intensely protective of their family#(and potentially aggressive and destructive if not trained properly. and god knows soul is not)

Big guy who stayed SO calm when a little angry dog was barking at him
#i wish i could explain just how big this was. for us both i think!#first instinct when i see another dog is run / put distance between us but of course running isnt really a great idea a lot of the time#you dont want to be tense and anxious. it makes the whole situation worse#and i stopped us running and just put my attention on handling Ren / staying calm and it went so well#no pulling at all!! no nervous or aggressive behavior apart from initially being startled!!#and this was in my own backyard where he's done most of his training so like. it might not go as well in a public space#but he did so good 😭❤️❤️❤️#dog blogging

Sorry if this has been answered, but will you keep Kep intact for breeding? Or nah :) no bias either way, you know your stuff so I know you wouldn’t breed willy-nilly xD
nah, I’m not interested in breeding. Kep gets to keep his balls until he’s at least two, and beyond that as long as they are not causing any behavior or health issues. if he’s a jackass or otherwise annoying to manage beyond my capability, snip snip.
#like obvs I will do training and management as appropriate but if it becomes a thing where like he’s an obsessive marker#or aggressive around males#I have no emotional attachment to my dogs reproductive systems

I hit my breaking point with my cousin and her dog and I just need to vent.
She stopped training with me a few months ago (as is her pattern) and then came to me today very upset about an incident. Apparently she was going down a hill and the ground was wet and she nearly lost control of the leash because her dog was aggressing at two other dogs. She starts blaming the other owner for having vicious dogs because they reacted back. Blah blah it's this other person's fault that as she struggling to regain control of her dog, he redirected to her and bit her. And that's when I lost my patience.
I told her her dog is the vicious one, that he's aggressive and out of control and until or unless she fixes things she needs to stop walking her dog around the neighborhood. Saying that felt like a failure for me as a dog trainer but I'm just at such a loss. Sooner or later she's going to lose control of the leash and her dog is going to seriously injure or kill another dog. It's not fair to put others at risk like that.
She started crying because that's his exercise and how she gets to chat with other people. I told her to utilize her yard, play in exchange for obedience. Practice walking on a leash calmly when dogs walk by the property. But that she has to get obedience and neutrality before she takes him off the property again.
I ended the conversation shortly thereafter because I knew that I was getting truly angry. But honestly it's so frustrating.
This is a dog who will 100% kill another dog if given the opportunity. This is a dog who redirects on the handler and goes for the face. It is pure luck that he hasn't landed a serious bite yet. It is only a matter of time before this ends in bloodshed or worse if she doesn't get very serious about it.
And the worst part is that no one in her family or mine is taking it seriously. I'm the bad guy for saying her dog is dangerous. I'm at fault for not fixing her dog. But how am I supposed to when there's no consistency or real buy in?
If she were just a client I would have walked away. But I can't because this is literally in my own backyard.
#dog training#aggressive dog#i'm just venting#personal post#i'm so done#but I'm not allowed to walk away#and i just want to scream

I wish people would be more normal about chihuahuas specifically because they really aren't an aggressive or unhealthy breed. they only act Like That when they're being harassed. they're an ancient breed that has only recently been bred into unhealthy sizes & skull shapes & most people you meet with a chihuahua will have a mixed rescue anyways, & those dogs will typically live into their teens & even early 20's. "they're so aggressive!! they're rats!!!" they are thee most abused dog on the planet. I think if someone you cannot possibly fight against tried to cut your ears off & then threw you into a ditch you'd be pretty defensive & jumpy too
#that example is not even an exaggeration btw#i just get so pissed off when people decide to make hating one specific breed of dog their entire personality#ESPECIALLY when it's chihuahuas because they don't have a bad temperament!!! they're just treated like dolls#their bodily autonomy is disrespected constantly & their body language is ignored#& so they're (unintentionally) trained into biting as soon as anyone tries to touch them because nothing else works#same goes for pitbulls btw like of course a cheap dog commonly used as a guard dog is gonna seem aggressive#when you never interact with one that is just a pet with normal training#people don't act like german shepherds are hyper aggressive & need to illegal & destroyed#not sorry but if you genuinely believe that one individual represents an entire breed or even species you're a fucking idiot

The fact that we have the best behaved dog in the neighborhood will never cease to both make me laugh and astound me.
#like he’s not the best boy but also#direct neighbors have dogs with an aggression problem to where they can’t be on the same floor of the house together#that’s actually a genetic/neurological problem but still#neighbors on the other side of them have four (4) dogs with varying degrees of behavioral issues#that are outside all day and bark at anything that moves#they also escape the yard constantly#new neighbors just moved in across the street with a dog that sounds like he will break down the fence and eat whatever’s passing by#it’s the Wild West out here#if I were still doing dog training I’d start dropping my business card in mailboxes

biggest idiotic dog owner pet peeve is when their dog tries to maim someone elses dog or honestly any animal and the owner goes 'omg my dog was protecting me!!' your dog is fear reactive, probably forgot you existed in the moment, and just wanted to kill the thing to save its own life
#just because your dog is a german shepherd doesnt mean it was born with protection instincts PLEASE CAN WE END THIS#or a doberman or a rottweiler or any other dog breed#these are all breeds that are prone to anxiety and/or reactivity and/or dog aggression#and if your dog was not SPECIFICALLY TRAINED in personal protection then it lunging and growling at another dog or person or whatevr#is PURELY reactivity usually stemming from fear. whether due to lack of socialization or genetic or trauma based. its reactivity#simon says

People in the notes of that post misconstruing it as "so all working dogs are abused??" I'm going to hit you with a hammer
#its training in aggressive behavior thats abusive#if the average pet dog bites someone that can be grounds for euthanization#and yet we've got a whole ecosystem of animals taught to do exactly that#and after retirement they become anxious and- you guessed it- aggressive

Republicans are the type of people to want a woman dead for aborting a 1 day old fetus that was going to grow up in an abusive foster home and then starve to death after aging out of the system, but will tell you to put down your dog if it stubbed its toe
#politics#tw politics#abortion#abortion rights#I had an experience recently where my dog got into a fight with a Pitbull#he had his front and back leg being torn open#and he didn't come out from under the shed for a few days#but we couldn't take their dog to the vet because they'd put the Pitbull down because#you know#they'd see the Pitbull as aggressive#and we couldn't take our dog to the vet because dogs usually get put down when their limbs are too injured in my area#anyways both of our dogs were fine#my dog is over 10 years old but he took it pretty well#we gave him tons of love and chicken and he was back to antagonising us as usual#our neighbours also put up a fence so their Pitbull could be trained for a little bit longer#so yeah#sorry for the story lol I'm completely off topic#anyways abortion rights + the vets in Georgia are trash

"Uhhh violence never the answer it's childish to start fights" it's also childish to refuse any and all criticism and expect everyone around you to bend over backwards to accommodate your every fucking whim and never do the same in return. If YOU make YOURSELF impossible to have a mature conversation with, people are going to stop trying.
#also again her and grandma's negligence resulted in my dad getting mauled by HER dog but we don’t get to be mad about that? fuck off#your dog is going to be euthanized. this will happen again with the wrong fucking person and they will press charges and your dog will die.#and I know for a FACT if either of our dogs had done anything even close to what hers did she would have flipped her shit#and now because she can't handle the bare minimum responsibilities of a dog owner our dogs are traumatized.#dad got hurt trying to separate her dog from Ghost(our aussie) bc he has no socialization skills and wouldn't leave Ghost tf alone#and then a day after THAT Ghost attacked Elphie (our corgi) bit her head and flipped her on her back. drew blood.#so because my aunt refuses to train her fucking dog now Ghost is triggered by the dog he has lived with his entire life#and has never EVER had issues with her! he has some excitability issues but he has NEVER been aggressive and has always deffered to Elphie#she's always been the one in charge. he's playful and friendly and has never instigated anything all 3 years of his life prior to this.#I am so fucking mad dog training is not just for the owner's convenience it's so your animal and other animals/people can be SAFE#they have a 2 year old and an 8 year old in that house a dog like this is a hazard. And to be clear I am not blaming the animal.#he is being neglected. they refuse to train him so they obviously can't manage his behavior so he just gets locked in his crate#which sucks for any animal but especially a year and a half old puppy who wants to play so he just sits in there and barks for fucking HOURS#it just sucks! I'm mad! He's a sweet dog but he has no self regulation skills so he's way too reactive! hes gonna bite one of the kids or a#stranger or another dog and then he won't have any chance to improve because he will be euthanized.
