Ancient Scythian Gold Jewelry Stolen From Ukraine Recovered in Spain
An Orthodox Church priest is among the five people accused of trying to sell the pieces, taken after being put on display at a Kyiv museum between 2009 and 2013.
The Spanish authorities have seized Scythian jewelry worth €60m (£52m) they say was stolen from Ukraine.
Police said the 11 ancient gold pieces were smuggled out of Ukraine in 2016 to be resold in Spain.
The bracelets, necklaces and earrings, from the 8th to 4th Centuries BC, had forged documents saying they belonged to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
Five arrests were made previously as part of an investigation into the 2021 sale of a gold belt with rams' heads.
The Scythians were a nomadic people who dominated parts of eastern Europe and Asia, including what is now southern Ukraine, from around 800 BC until 400 AD. They were known for their rich cultural heritage and metalworking skills, particularly in the manufacture of elaborate gold jewelry.
Tumblr media
Separately, the Ukrainian authorities said last week that they had recovered 14 archaeological items allegedly stolen from areas occupied by Russia. A Russian man was arrested after attempting to smuggle them into the US.
The items include a Neolithic axe dating from approximately 5,000-3,000 BC.
"It's safe to say that Ukraine has received a new shipment of weaponry. The only catch is that this weaponry is incredibly ancient," Ukraine's acting Minister of Culture Rostyslav Karandieiev wryly noted at a news conference.
Artifacts created by the Scythian civilisation are among Ukraine's best-known historical heritage.
Ukrainian archaeologists say Scythian gold held in Ukrainian museums in areas under Russian occupation has been looted since the full-scale invasion last year.
Losses from alleged Russian plundering of Ukraine's historical and artistic heritage are estimated to run into the hundreds of millions of euros.

Nose rings in Egypt
Wearing nose rings in the Eastern Mediterranean actually goes back to the time that the Torah was being written. Referred to as nezemim, Rebecca is noted as wearing one. The practice continues to this day, though they are less common and have grown to be more strongly associated with South Asia and Alt sub cultures. Today it is thought that the wearing of nose rings in India may have been imported from West Asia (the assertion that they were brought over by the Mughals seems inaccurate, however, as the first mention of them is from around 1000 AD)- the discussion is somewhat contentious and unfortunately often feeds into political violence and bias against Muslims when mentioned.
The earliest modern depuction of a nose ring being worn in Egypt comes from the 1830s, thanks to our old enemy and research dog, Edward William Lane. He describes then as being made of brass or occasionally gold with glass beads attached to them, an inch to an inch and a half in diameter, says they are worn on the right side of the nose. His account associates them with poor women. He records the name as "khizám" or "khuzám".
Tumblr media
A difficulty comes in recognizing nose ring examples held in museums; I have found a few items resembling this style, but they are described as earrings. The V&A is responsible for two cases, and given they have gotten information wrong on both Ancient and Modern Egyptian jewelry, my suspicion is these examples may be misidentified. The two examples will be shown promptly.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Another example of dubious identification comes from a design that may be multipurpose; silver rings with an openwork barrel at one end. The TRC Leiden institute has an example from Saudi Arabia and claims its a nose ring, but it bears close resemblance to some Egyptian examples identified as earrings, and those resemble some Coptic bronze examples also identified as earrings. To my mind this style also resembles Amazigh earrings/head ornaments (these were sometimes attached to the headdress, not the ears themselves). It is also possible that TRC Leiden has misidentified the item.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
While Lane says nose rings were worn all over Egypt, the modern discussion I've found strongly associates them with Bahariya, where they are called gatar or qatrah. There, they are made of gold (usually 12 carat), with filigree and granulation filling the lower half, worn on the right side by married women. They also typically have a large flat circle of gold covering the gap where the wire goes through the nose. This is either soldered on or apart of the central wire the nose ring is built around. Occasionally a coral or glass bead is threaded into the wire that passes through the nose. They are never made of silver, as local women say silver would damage the blood vessels in the nose. They also feel that the nose ring prevents pain and headaches while worn, and when a piece has to be sent off to repair, they urge the person transporting it to hurry back.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I've found some discussion of nose rings as worn by Nubians, Sinai Bedouins, and Bisharin (Beja), Ababda (who have closely intermarried with the Bisharin), and Rashayda. The name recorded as used by Nubians and Beja is zimam. I haven't seen enough examples of Nubian or Beja Egyptian nose rings to draw conclusions about common manufacture, but I do have a few examples. One piece, attributed to Egypt by the Philadelphia museum, is a sliver ring with part of the wire flattened and cut halfway through. Azza Fahmy also provides a photo, putting it under a collection of earrings from the Red Sea area. Similar nose rings can be seen in these two photos from Sudan. I have also seen a photo allegedly of an Egyptian Nubian girl with a gold nose ring that has a similar partially flattened design.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Other Sudanese nose rings I've seen are gold, with a chain leading from the ring to the hair, in a similar fashion to the nath in India. However, these are not necessarily synonymous with Nubian nose rings, as Sudan has an Arab/Arabized cultural majority. At some point I'd like to ask someone who knows more about the subject if there is a distinction between the two styles, but as of now I do not know anyone who is knowledgeable on the matter, nor do I know of any academic texts that discuss the issue.
Beja jewelry has a strong influence from Nubian and Sudanese styles, owing to the fact that they live in proximity, and that more Beja live in Sudan than Egypt. Like Nubians, the Beja are an Indigenous group. They're believed to be related to the Blemmyes and the original group referred to as Medjay in Ancient Egypt, and some ostracon exist of their languages written in the Coptic alphabet (The Nubian alphabet is related to the Coptic alphabet as well, with unique letters for certain sounds). I have little information on the Rashayda, but they call their nose ring zimam. They claim to be descended from an Arab tribe, and some information I've seen implies they've intermarried with the Beja. Two nose piercings are in use by the Beja and Rashayda; a diamond shaped one worn in the center bulb of the nose, worn by Beja women, and gold nose rings with engraved designs or strung with beads, worn by both. 21k is the preference in Nubian goldwork, and this seems to be true of these groups as well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In Sinai, the nose ring is called a shenaf. It has a great deal of similarity to Palestinian nose rings, and has a similar construction to Bahariya nose rings with the lower half full of filigree and granulation. It also sometimes has beads and hanging pieces. It is most commonly made of gold.

The first one is unfortunately incredibly biased against Muslims, and I wouldn't link it if I could find a better write up of the argument regarding nose rings being an import to India. I debated including it at all, but figured I should stick to my rule for citing biased sources in Egyptian fashion research; include it, but note the problem.

The Poussiere: A town reclaimed by by Critters
There is a story in the stage descriptions. I summarized it and added the original text under "Keep reading." Note: the Dust mentioned in the story is this:
Tumblr media
Once upon this time, there was a town that specialized in broom-making. The brooms were used to sweep away high concentrations of Dust and chase away Critters attracted to the Dust. However, everything changed when the youngest son of one of the workshops built a flying taxi out of scraps. He sold it and made a fortune. The town shifted its priorities. Over 253,000 vehicles were sold globally every year. However, because the town switched to manufacturing flying vehicles instead of brooms, Dust accumulated and the Critters returned. The town ignored them and focused their resources on making more profit. Eventually, the Critters grew strong enough to conquer the town. Now They live as royalty among the rubble. They took no interest in the finer things left behind and like to wear rubbish.
You can actually see the abandoned vehicles and a TRAIN trying to escape the wilds that reclaimed them.
Tumblr media
I interpret this story as being led astray by greed and losing sight of the important things. Ignoring problems doesn't make them go away and money can't solve everything. Original text below.
LP 1 (stages are labeled LP for some reason)
This was a paradise for humans. I remember its glory was as dazzling as a sun that drops to the ground.
LP 2
A broom-making town. Brooms are made to sweep the high concentrations of Dust as well as the constant skirmishes from the critters attracted by the Dust.
LP 3
Changes always arrive out of the blue. The youngest son of the broom workshop's made a flying taxi with a pile of scraps and sold it for a whole bucket of gold coins.
LP 4
Over 253,000 vehicles leave this place every year for various destinations around the world without coming back.
LP 5
No one cares how those little monsters stuff their bellies with stolen Dust. You can see how common they are.
LP 6 (Final Stage)
Now it belongs to them. These filthy, crazy little things dropped the fancy dresses and jewelry and put on abandoned cans and tires. They are squeaking aloud, like a king and a queen.

I want to put down all the references in the Worst Generation (excluding the Straw Hats and Blackbeard) and the named members of their crews. I'm getting my information from the wiki and adding my own theories/comments where necessary. Ever since I read JoJo, I love finding references in manga.
Fire Tank Pirates
Capone Bege: His surname is obviously taken from Al Capone (whom he also shares his birthday with) and his given name is based on the English privateer William le Sauvage. Him being stated to cut animals' heads off is a nod to the horse head scene from The Godfather.
Vito: His name seems to be taken from Vito "Don Vito" Genovese, a mobster/crime boss from Al Capone's era, and the first name of Don Corleone from The Godfather.
Gotti: He seems to be named after John Gotti, a mobster who ran the Gambino crime family in the 80s (He was nicknamed 'the Telfon Don' due to him facing three trials and being acquitted every time -- the results were caused by jury tampering and witness intimidation-- before being finally sent to prison in 1992).
Chiffon: She's named after chiffon cake, which she also specializes in making.
Pez: His name is the Spanish word for fish, as well as a nod to the candy brand, keeping with the Charlotte Family naming theme.
Bonney Pirates
Jewelry Bonney: Her name is taken from the 18th-century Anne Bonney, who, like Bonney herself, was a noble turned pirate.
Hawkins Pirates
Basil Hawkins: His surname is taken from 17th-century English pirate Basil Ringosel and his given name from 16th-century pirate/privateer John Hawkins. Hawkins is also the name of the protagonist of the 1883 adventure novel Treasure Island (which had a massive impact on the depiction of pirates in popular culture) by Robert Louis Stevenson, who also wrote The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Visually, his design is based off of Joey Jordison of Slipknot.
Faust: He's named after the legendary character Faust, who sold his soul to the Devil in exchange for knowledge and worldly pleasures. The story was most famously told by 15th-century playwright Christopher Marlowe in The Tragical History of Doctor Faustus and by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe in Faust.
On Air Pirates
Scratchman Apoo: His surname seems to be based on the practice of "scratching" records when DJing, tying into his association with music. His first name is taken from the Qing dynasty pirate Chui A-poo.
Kid Pirates
Eustass Kid: He's named after the 13th-century pirate and mercenary Eustace the Monk and the 17th-century Scottish (which Kid would be if he existed in the real world) pirate William Kidd, who was also called "Captain."
Kid's Attacks: I decided this needed its own entry. Punk Gibson (Kid's giant arm) -- Named after the US guitar manufacturer Gibson. Punk Rotten (the giant scrap metal head and arms) -- Named after Johnny Rotten, the name John Lyndon used when he was the frontman of the influential punk band Sex Pistols. Punk Vise (Crushing a target with Punk Rotten's hands) -- As "vice" and "vise" are spelled the same way in katakana, this attack might be named after the British punk rock band Vice Squad. Punk Pistols (a harpoon gun made out of metal pieces that acts like a Gatling gun) -- Named after Sex Pistols. Punk Corna Dio (the giant bull he used to attack Big Mom) -- Corna is Italian for horns, alluding to the sign of the horns in heavy metal, while Dio references Ronnie James Dio, who was very big in that genre; no, I'm not making the obvious joke. Damned Punk (the giant railgun he used to blast Big Mom off Onigashima) -- Probably named after the British punk rock band The Damned. Punk Clash (after magnetizing someone with his Awakened Devil Fruit, they attract very large and pointy metal pieces) -- Named after the British punk band The Clash.
Killer: His laugh alludes to the song 'Psycho Killer' by the New Wave band the Talking Heads, as the chorus is the same ("fa fa fa fa fa"). The song might be the source of his name. His helmet strongly resembles that of Daft Punk member Guy-Manual de Homem-Christo.
Heat: He's likely named after the experimental rock band This Heat.
Wire: He might be named after the English rock band Wire.
Gig: In keeping with the Kid Pirates' music-related theme naming, a gig is slang for a live show.
Dive: She's likely named after stage-diving, a common practice among musicians and their fans.
UK: His name may come from the UK, where many classic punk bands originated from (ie, the Clash, Sex Pistols). Alternately, he might be named after the Sex Pistols' song 'Anarchy in the UK.'
Pomp: He's likely named after pomp rock, more commonly known as arena rock (examples of bands known for arena rock: Styx, Toto, Journey, REO Speedwagon, Boston).
Bubblegum: His name seems to be a reference to bubblegum music (rock and pop in a catchy and upbeat style marketed toward children), which influenced punk rock, new wave, and melodic metal.
Reck: He's named after the bassist of the Japanese punk rock band Friction.
House: She's named after the electronic music subgenre house music.
Boogie: He's probably named after the electronic club music subgenre called boogie.
Mosh: He's likely named after moshing, a rather violent form of dancing. Appropriate for a member of a crew known for their violence.
Hip: She's named after hip-hop.
Papas: He's named after the folk rock group The Mamas & the Papas, the indie rock band Papas Fritas, or both.
Jaguar: He's likely named after the Fender Jaguar electric guitar. Alternately, his name could come from Mick Jagger's last name, as "Jagger" and "Jaguar" are spelled the same way in katakana.
Quincy: Her name likely comes from the producer and musician Quincy Jones, who produced Michael Jackson's albums Off the Wall, Thriller, and Bad, and has 80 Grammy Award nominations and 28 Grammys.
Hop: She's named after hip-hop.
Compo: He might be named after an abbreviation of 'musical composition.'
Disc J: His name pretty clearly comes from disc jockey, more commonly known as DJ.
Fallen Monk Pirates
Urouge: He's named after the 16th-century Ottoman Pirate Oruc Reis. He seems to be based off of Grigori Rasputin, who needs no introduction, and/or Ji Gong, a Chinese monk known for having supernatural abilities, behaving bizarrely, and not following Buddhist monastic rules. Interestingly, both these figures have movies (Rasputin the Mad Monk, a 1966 Hammer horror film starring Christopher Lee as the titular character, and the 1993 Hong Kong film The Mad Monk) that might have inspired his epithet.
Drake Pirates
X Drake: Drake is sometimes synonymous with dragon, especially in Middle English; appropriate, given that dinosaur bones likely inspired legends of dragons. His name is also taken from 16th-century pirate and adventurer Francis Drake. Random (but likely not a deliberate reference) fact: He shares his birthday with the singer/rapper Drake.
Heart Pirates
Trafalgar D. Water Law: His surname is taken from Cape Trafalgar in the south of Spain, which was the site of a battle between the British and French/Spanish fleets which famously killed Lord Nelson. His name is taken from 18th-century pirate Edward Low, who was notorious for violently torturing his victims before killing them, which may have inspired Law's own reputation for cruelty.
Bepo: He might be named after Lord Byron's poem 'Beppo.' He's also likely named after bear, polar.
Shachi: His name is the Japanese word for killer whale, which makes his friendship with Penguin (who's named after killer whales' preferred food) kind of funny.
Jean Bart: His name comes from the 16th-century French privateer Jean Bart.
Ikkaku: Her name means 'narwhal' in Japanese.
Uni: His name comes from the Japanese word for sea urchin.
Clione: 'Clione' is the Latin name for sea angels.
Hakugan: His name means 'snow goose' in Japanese.

Shang Qinghua was living within a story of his own creation and not at the same time.
The original Proud Immortal Demon Way stretched across centuries of time, his dear son Luo Binghe amassing a gargantuan harem and siring a horde of children. So technically, six years after the events of maigu ridge, he was well within the confides of the story. But things had changed, drastically in fact. Luo Binghe married only one person, all of the Qing Jing peak lords survived, and several characters he never added to the official story walked among them. He had no more idea where this much altered story was headed than anyone else, including Shen Qingqiu.
After Mobei Jun's ascension and Shang Qinghua's aborted exit from the world, his life changed. They reconciled, developed what Shang Qinghua thought was a more harmonious, nonviolent working relationship. Unbeknownst to him, Mobei Jun had initiated a lengthy attempt at courtship. They danced around each other for a few more years, Shang Qinghua at first unwilling to accept the truth then hesitant to commit. He wanted to be with Mobei Jun—much to his surprise—but he didn't necessarily jump at the chance to be recognized as the demon king of the north's consort.
He woke in this world as an infant and floated through this new life with a sense of detachment. He was present enough to ensure his survival, cling to whatever thigh he needed to achieve that, but now… He chose to be here, abandoned his original life for this place. For Mobei Jun – though he wouldn't admit that for a while.
The transition from the role he was designated to play, from mere survival to living a life with someone else, was terrifying. He had no guidelines or parameters. He didn't know the consequences. The system remained offline since he declined the option to leave.
In the end, Mobei Jun had grabbed both his hands, knelt before him at their bedside, his towering frame now meeting him eye to eye.
"The kingdom knows what you mean to me. I would have you take your rightful place at my side."
"My king," Shang Qinghua started nervously, "I'm by your side each day."
"As a servant, as an advisor."
Shang Qinghua squirmed in Mobei Jun's hold, under his intense gaze. "Isn't that enough?"
Mobei Jun's answer was quick and resolute: "No."
"M-my king, I'm, I'm not a woman–"
"Lord Luo has not taken a woman as his official consort."
Laughter bubbled out of Shang Qinghua at that irrefutable truth, feeling hysterical. "Yes, yes. But! I don't have the parts to, um, continue your line either."
Mobei Jun raised his eyebrow a millimeter or two, which for him was the equivalent of noticeably quirking it. "I am well aware."
Color rose in Shang Qinghua's cheeks as he glanced down at the bed they shared for the past couple years.
"What about heirs?"
"Do you believe I'd die and leave you anytime soon?"
Shang Qinghua didn't know how to handle such a forthright Mobei Jun.
Not known for his patience, Mobei Jun had resorted to threats and, failing that approach, even attempted negotiating what terms Shang Qinghua needed to accept his offer of marriage. Shang Qinghua rebuffed him each time, on occasion manufacturing some emergency back on an ding peak and hiding there for a few weeks. Mobei Jun's new tactic of emotional openness was the last thing Shang Qinghua would have expected. Or know how defend against.
They had never put words to the thing between them, no declarations or confessions. It was simply understood that their feelings were the same. But Mobei Jun seemed determined to define it, officially, for all to see.
What else could Shang Qinghua do but do as his king, his perfect man, wants?
"I'm not wearing jewelry! All that cold metal and stone, it'll stick to my skin."
Mobei Jun surged forward, cupping Shang Qinghua's round face in his massive clawed hands to kiss his future consort like he wished to devour him.

hi! i hope this doesnt come off as a bother or anything . but do you have any mask making tips or tutorials you could reccomend ?? (like for materials, jaw movement, and how to see out of there) im planning to do a raven named Goose :D
ive been finding some resources here and there, but i thought it wouldnt hurt to ask !!!
Absolutely not! I'd love to answer all your questions. :D I have not looked at that many tutorials, I mostly looked at pinterest pictures of raven costumes to see what I can come up with. One that really inspired me to get things going is actually another Tumblr user I found on there who has posted some helpful tips that I followed along with! They too have a raven costume and they got their resin base from the same manufacturer (Crystumes, they have a website where you can shop for their blanks) Since this post is awfully long, I'll do a read more from here on:
The tutorials I followed the most is this one by Rah-Bop:
Rah-Bop has some tips about adding feathers, making foam-feathers, adding claws to your gloves, making gloves or feet. In terms of material: I used the hinged resin base by Crystumes which by itself cost me +/- 200USD, they sent me a pair of customizeable glass eyes and a tongue.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Crystumes has some additional tutorials specifically regarding their masks on their website! Crystumes also lists some of the materials on their website that I used and where to get them (Like the apoxie clay to do the eyelids, the glass eyes etc.) I did mess the eyes up though the first time I did it so I had to order them from delviesplastics.com (As suggested by Crystumes) Since I ordered the base with hinges I'm not sure how to do them myself but I will have to figure it out for the second fursuit I'm cooking! In terms of other material I bought some long rooster feathers and hair jewelry off of Etsy. I bought a pair of long faux leather gloves from Ricardo (which is a swiss second hand online shop) but you can buy the gloves anywhere else or even sew them yourself by tracing your arm and hand on a piece of paper, then trace the pattern twice on any somewhat stretchy material like faux leather or spandex and sew those two together for one glove each. I bought black fur in another Swiss textile / sewing shop named Alja (not sure if it's actually Swiss) since it's cheaper (around 60$ for 4 yards) than to ship fur from America to Switzerland (Which amounts to 100-200 for the same amount). But if you can afford it: Take a look at Howl's Fabrics or Big Z Fabric. Both websites offer samples! I personally don't buy from them as the shipping costs for me are devastating. I suggest looking at general "furring" tutorials or "how to fur a fursuit head" tutorials on youtube. Most of them will tell you to make a duct tape pattern on your base, draw on the patterns then cut those patterns out on fur, sew the fur together then glue to the base. Crystumes once made a twitter post about it as well I think but I'm not sure I'll find it. When cutting fur in general just make sure you keep the scissors as close to the backing as possible to avoid cutting any fur fibers in the process, it will be visible otherwise. I made a fur top / shirt by tracing one of my long sleeve t-shirts onto the fur I bought and went with that. For the back of the head I used an 80s Mullet/Rockstar wig I bought from another Swiss online store. Other fursuit makers mostly sew fur even to the back of the head but my personal Raven fursuit is literally just a mask with a wig to cover the back. Which in turn makes the whole mask less hot. To keep the mask ON my face and to keep it from slipping down I used the adjusteable part of a biking helmet or climbing helmet. and attached it to the mask by using a lot of hot glue, I eventually had to use some stronger glue as it kept falling off. Since the mask was fairly big when I bought it and rather uncomfortable I used thick felt sheets and glued them inside the head as padding material! Foam works as well, whatever floats your boat. I went with felt since I could easily cut some feather patterns into them as a nice easter egg. Not sure anymore what exactly I used to cover the holes by the beak that I see out of, but it was some kind of very fine dark and flexible grid that I bought from the swiss equivalent of home depot. In terms of being able to see: The crystume base has holes between the beak and the eyes that you can look out of or you can even look through the mouth, both works pretty well and the mask allows for a lot of visibility from within- Out of all my fellow furry friends I'm the only one that doesn't necessarily need a spotter since I can see pretty well. In terms of clothing I pretty much sewed nothing by myself and only assembled a bunch of my own outfits that would fit the raven costume. Sometimes I did buy some costume specific stuff from online clothing stores or went into the thrift shop to buy some costume specific clothing pieces. In general, for your first raven costume just go with the flow and try to keep it budget friendly, as your first will unlikely be perfect. And that's about it! Not sure if I missed something but I tried to cover everything as much in detail as I could. Hope it helps!

A ring made of hair, according to legend, owned by Natalia Goncharova and presented by her to her fiancé - A.S. Pushkin. Russia, the first third of the XIX century. On the ring there is an insert (or lock) made of gold (0.7×1.1 cm) with an engraved monogram "NG". It is preserved in a ladies' velvet handbag stuffed with satin embroidered with metal beads; there is also a piece of sermot and a cut of posum, attached is a portrait of N.N. Goncharova (engraving of the XIX century). Everything is enclosed in a Karelian birch box.
A ring, according to legend, belonged to Natalia Nikolaevna Goncharova (future Pushkina), woven by her own hair for a gift to her fiancé, a great Russian poet. Monogram "N. G." ("Natalia Goncharova") corresponds to her maiden name, which she was called before the wedding. Probably, the ring was handed over in the spring of 1830 in Moscow, m.b. after April 6, when Pushkin received consent to the marriage.
In Pushkin's time, hair jewelry was in great fashion: this weather came from France and quickly spread. The most frequent was the gift of such a ring by a girl to her betrothed, which was reflected in French novels of the Romantic era. Such rings could also be of a memorial nature. K.N.'s request is known. Batyushkova, addressed to a friend: "Do you want me to make a very nice gift? Order me a ring of your hair, all three, with the hair of your late sister, you will lend me very much with it." Fragile, subject to decay, often stored secretly (since the material of manufacture added special intimacy to the gift), they have hardly survived to the present day, except for some exhibits, whose memorial value served as a certificate of protection for them.

Girlhood + Makeup
My first experience with makeup came in the form of a cheap princess makeup set that came with a pair of high heels shoes to imitate the popular glass slipper from Disney’s “Cinderella”. Clip-on earrings, rings, and beaded necklaces intended to mimic diamonds we all know diamonds are a girl's best friend personally I'm more of a gold or pearl girly but I digress we all had this set or some variation of it. I’d dress up in little heels barely able to walk in them, lips properly glossed, peel off nail polish on my fingers with glittery eyeshadow across my eyelids the perfect embodiment of the prettiest girl in the world, well at least in my mind at that age. I often think about the fact that at an early age as girls, we’re given very few options at developmental stages in our lives when it comes to what could be our interests. We’re given baby dolls, cooking sets, make-up, and jewelry-making kits to keep our hands busy. We’re indoctrinated early on into the mindset to be focused on our looks and this translates into our older years switching out the cheaply manufactured make-up palettes to more expensive make-up kits equipped with the necessary items to perfectly conceal any imperfections that we may have. I had no interest in makeup after those days of enjoying the children's make-up sets. At most, I would use flavored lip gloss that came in an array of colours that wouldn't show on your lips but they were pretty to look at. Until I was a bit older maybe around 15 years old, again the influence of my eldest sister, she properly introduced me to make-up, and again for the first time, I had this feeling of fireworks going off in my mind. That initial “WOW”  I could look so pretty in a whole different form that  I had never known. Again I was sitting on the chair in front of the mirror my hair freshly done on my wonky kinky twists and now my face done well with a sparly shimmer shadow almost mirroring how it was done in my early years. The bold red lip didn't suit me at all but I  felt so pretty at that moment I didn't care. Something about that changes your brain chemistry as a young girl wearing makeup for the first time simply to go nowhere getting ready with your eldest sister It is quite remarkable and to this day I long for that experience once again. I'm very glad that I can still look back on that memory fondly and not with any type of disdain. Others have different experiences making their relationship with makeup more negative than mine and see it as a form of oppression. For me make-up is something that brought me joy simply because I didn't feel pressured or made to believe that it was something I needed I was reassured by my sister throughout the whole process that I was perfect with or without it makeup added to my natural beauty. I knew this before but the words of affirmation were very much needed for me to keep a great relationship with makeup. Even now when I wear my simple false eyelashes, brown lip liner coconut scented lip gloss over the top, and my blush I feel that same amount of confidence that I would have with a bare face.
I believe all women are pretty without makeup, but  with the right makeup can be pretty powerful

Ocean's Thirteen (2007)
Tumblr media
Inexplicably, the Ocean’s franchise didn’t sink into oblivion after the sewage that was Ocean’s Twelve. This third chapter in the series fares much better than its predecessor but never reaches the level of the original (neither the original original or the 2001 remake). Still, as another installment, it does offer the remaining fans more of what they want to see, which is something.
After Reuben (Elliott Gould) loses his investment in a new hotel-casino to his business partner, Willy Bank (Al Pacino), he suffers a heart attack and becomes bedridden. Danny (George Clooney) and the rest of the Ocean Club decide to get even by ruining Bank and his new establishment.
If you’re not endeared to the Ocean’s crew, this plot will be an uphill battle. "Boo hoo. Poor Reuben is so upset he’s not making millions off this gaudy casino that he’s become catatonic. Guess it’s up to his buddies to get revenge on his behalf instead of just convincing the proper authorities that he was strongarmed into signing a contract?" Towards the end of the film, the crew’s old nemesis, Terry Benedict (Andy García, whose character is brought back under dubious pretenses), sees millions of his money donated to charity without his consent. I wonder if any of the cash the protagonists end up swiping from Banks would’ve gone anywhere except their pockets had they not had a score to settle. While some of this is mitigated by the fact that Willy Bank is a jerk, what we're seeing feels like a whole lot of “the 1%’s problems”. There isn’t a love plot to make us believe this is about anything but money unless you count the brotherly love between the Ocean’s crew. Even that seems like a stretch.
In the first movie and even in the second in a “sure, whatever”, kind of way, it made sense for these 11 people (we’ll get to that number in a moment) to join forces. Now? It seems overly optimistic to think the random Chinese acrobat who doesn’t speak English would put himself at risk as he does here. Now to be fair, this story makes much better use of its characters than Twelve did. No one gets stuffed into a bag and shipped off to nowhere halfway through, for example. Everyone has a role to play and it works though it should be noted that neither Julia Roberts nor Catherine Zeta-Jones return.
You’re wondering who the two new members of the crew are. One is the aforementioned Benedict, who plays the role of a benefactor. The other is… Eddie Izzard as Roman Nagel. I think. The motif of adding a new expert to the crew with each sequel has basically disappeared, and for good reason. This series can barely handle the people it has on its roster. Adding more is becoming increasingly problematic but it’s also necessary. See, “The Bank” has insane security measures, the kind no one in their right might would even try to circumvent. On the one hand, this makes for exciting scenes that make you wonder how the lock will get cracked. On the other, it makes the plot feel manufactured. For example, there's this super secure room that contains expensive jewelry. The plan to get in? Have Linus Caldwell (Matt Damon) and his phoney-looking rubber nose seduce Bank’s right-hand woman, Abigail Sponder (Ellen Barkin). With the help of some magic pheromones, she’ll get so hot and bothered she’ll have no choice but to bring Linus into the only room in the whooooole building that's guaranteed to be deserted. Apparently, there are cameras in the bathrooms, the closets and her private office. It’s a horrible subplot made unintentionally comical by the fact that nothing happens between her and Linus. The movie teases nudity for at least 15 minutes. Ellen Barkin's chest is ALMOST falling out of her dress for so long it’s ridiculous. I thought she was slobbering at the mouth for some man meat but she’s not even taking off her clothes? What’s going on here?!
I’ve been mostly bad-mouthing Ocean's Thirteen because the film is constantly on the brink of crumbling under its own weight. I will still call it a “good” sequel because fans of this series will be happy with it. You hate the bad guy, there are enough laughs to keep you smiling consistently and the con is so complicated it’s fun to see all the pieces coming together. All of the actors are obviously having a great time. I’m in no hurry to watch it again but if you love love love the first, you didn’t mind the second and you want to know if you should watch the third, then I say “sure”. I say this despite feeling like twice was too many for me. (April 29, 2022)

I just started a new job and got promoted quickly which is great!
I basically work alone so I’m kind of my own boss. I get to allocate my time as I see fit and don’t have someone breathing down my neck. Constantly turning my head to see who’s watching.
It’s more work but pays enough and I have a benefit that helps my business which is nice.
The job is right across from a popular shopping center in my city. I don’t shop at the mall so the only store I’m interested in is whole foods. My family loves whole foods growing up bc that’s where my stepdad worked so he would always bring home the goods. But since he died no one has felt it necessary to go out of their way to get it since it’s so far from my house. But the fact that it’s right down the street from me now is so exciting.
I plan on restarting my gym membership, shopping at Whole Foods for food, and utilizing the giant fridge I have at my job that’s practically all mine. Lord knows if I left the food at my home fridge it’d be gone within the hour bc my brother’s a fuckin munch.
I just have to get over the embarrassment of pulling into the Whole Foods parking lot with a banged up car. What are they gonna do though? Arrest me? (This is me hyping myself up)
Changing up the content style of my business and plan on launching a new product soon. I believe this new strategy will work well for me and I might be able to use one of the videos to run ads on Facebook.
My score mentor thought it’d be a good idea to
1. Introduce affiliate marketing which I didn’t think I was big enough for and
2. Collaborate with other small businesses.
I like the second suggestion much better right now. I could utilize jewelry, makeup, and wig brands in my content to really sell the lifestyle and they can repost it on their page. Kind of like a shout out for shout out.
As far as affiliate marketing goes, I need to find the right platform to use. Everytime I try to research affiliate marketing it always shows the influencer side of it and not the business side. I’ll do more digging.
I think I found a manufacturer that can make a bunch of different items for me. Denim jeans, plus dresses, plus knit. I’ve been looking for a one stop shop type for a while and I think I’ve got them. I’ll have to order a couple samples but my lord are they expensive. Gotta keep reminding myself that it’s an investment.
Thank all for now. Ciao

Mirabilia Designs #93: Lady of the Mist stitched by Ramona Gignac. Pattern designed by Nora Corbett.
“I loved this chart from the start. It has a lot of firsts for me on it. First Mirabilia stitch. My first time using jewelry as embellishments. First time beading. First time using variegated threads. First time using overdyed fabric and not using the recommended fabric. First time adding embellishments that weren't called for on the chart (The butterflies hide a pink spot in the fabric) First time doing skin over 1....first time I bought a pattern to do for myself but it felt better after I decided to give her as a gift instead. Oh well, next time. Lol
After months of searching, I finally received opal to finish off the ring on my Lady of the Mist. Jo Rhodes Bellerose was so generous to send me a whole necklace of them that my lady has a necklace too.
Those are the charted colors  I loved stitching the roses. They're even better in real life! My iPhone doesn't do justice to the colours. The fabric is an overdyed linen called Highland Mist. I bought it while on holidays in Las Vegas at Stitcher's Paradise. Sorry, they didn't write on the tag who the manufacturer was.
I'm so pleased with her I wanted to show everyone! I was so excited I even showed the photos to coworkers who didn't even know I stitched.”
