How do I leave the US? I can't live here anymore. I'm an IT student and would love to move to Europe. I'd love to go to Germany specifically. It would be great to learn the language and continue my education at the University of Munich in München, Germany.

My Voice, My Choice - accsess to safe abortions for everyone
Hey, so in light of recent events, like the US election and the government break in Germany, I urge every EU citizen to sign this citizens initiative. It's goal is for the EU to offer finacial support to countries who make abortions legal, safe and affordable for everyone.
It needs roughly 250.000 more signatures to be brought before the European Parliament, no matter from what EU country.
For those that don't know, citizens initiatives are a way for citizens of EU member states to bring topics that are important to them into the EU government. They need at least 1 million signatures from 7 different EU countries. Those 7 countries need to reach a threshold of signatures based on how many citizens a country has.
This petition has already had 11 countries reach their thresholds, so now every signature is necessary!
So please, please, please sign this petition if you are an EU citizen. We need to make abortion safer and more affordable in Europe and strengthen it's place as essential womens health care.
If you are not from an EU country please reblog this post. Or post about this initiative yourself. We need to make this as visible as possible, in times where abortion is being considered more and more as evil and wrong!

Gitta Sereny Interviews a Former SS Member on Hitler's Euthanasia Program
'I made a special point of asking Theo Hupfauer and his wife what they had known about euthanasia, for in February 1941 Hupfauer was named Commandant of the Ordensburg Sonthofen, an elite college for political education, on whose curriculum "hereditary health" and racial purity must have figured prominently. "I was only the Commandant", he answered evasively. "I didn't know about euthanasia. But let me add right away_I'm not against it. As you can see, it is now being discussed more and more.....You can see that the whole world is slowly moving in that direction now...The only question is how and to what degree. Is there really such a difference", he asked, "between the early-pregnancy tests done as a matter of routine with the idea of termination if the fetus is is abnormal, not to mention the number of abortions now being performed for all sorts of reasons, and what was done here forty years ago?"
These two people had not changed. In 1940-41 they had believed in racial purity, and, I was sure, had not only known about the Euthanasia Program, but agreed with it. And now, with ever increasing arguments for some_though less extreme_ kind of legalized euthanasia, they feel that the world is catching up with Hitler's ideas.' - Albert Speer: His Battle With Truth (Sereny 1995), p. 201-02.

Germany should legalise abortions in the first 12 weeks, commission says
Germany should legalise abortions within the first 12 weeks of pregnancy, a government-appointed commission recommended on Monday.
Abortion remains illegal in Germany except in special circumstances, including if a woman’s life is in danger or she is a victim of rape, and consultation with a government-recognised body is a prerequisite for any termination of pregnancy.
Those in favour of changing the law have called the law outdated and detrimental to women. Even in cases that are not considered illegal, the procedure must be carried out within the first three months, unless there is a compelling reason to carry it out later.
Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s three-party government set up the women’s expert commission on reproductive self-determination and reproductive medicine after the desire to change the 153-year-old law was enshrined in his coalition agreement.

lol my senior thesis in college was a comparative legal history of women's rights in east and west germany with a conclusion that reunification, while good for like general human rights, did women in particular a fantastic disservice because it nullified all protections and rights women had in the gdr which far outnumbered any protections and rights women had in the brd (fgr?? idk the english. west germany) because reunification was not reunification; it was a reabsorption of the east into the west, and that's evident even by the way people talk about it today ("new" vs "old" bundesländer, etc.)
#abortion was legal in the gdr and illegal in reunified germany for years#women literally had basic human rights stripped away by reunification#like yeah police state bad obviously but like#the fact that west germany kept NOTHING to help women is uh. telling.#anyway this meant trawling through east and west german legal documents and laws and all kinds of stuff in german

Well for one thing, you (or the West for that matter) didn’t create the word genocide, it was coined by a Polish-Jewish lawyer named Raphael Lemkin. In his book, the Axis Rule in Occupied Europe he showed his research of the way the Nazi occupied Europe and narrated how he thought the crimes the Nazi committed against the Polish during their occupation came down to 5 main policies that displayed their will to completely destroy the Polish nation which included:
1) The mass killings of Poles
2) Bringing “serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group”,
3) Planned deterioration of living conditions "calculated to bring about their destruction
4) Implementation of various "measures intended to to prevent births within the group" such as promotion of abortions, burdening pregnant women, etc.
5) Forced transfer of Polish children to German families
He used these instances as proof for the Nazi plan to completely terminate the Polish identity and these markers are still used by the Genocide Convention as proof of genocidal intentions. He also used this word to describe the atrocities that Nazi committed against the Jewish people during the Holocaust. Lemkin also spent the rest of his time advocating for an international convention to stop the rise of “future Hitlers”, and on December 9, 1948 the U.N. authorized the Genocide Convention, which had many of its clauses based on Lemkin’s own research and proposals.
Also this is a very narrow idea of racism and discrimination. Anti-semitism was rampant in American and Western society years before Hitler came into power. I mean in 1942, American literally turned away a boat load of Jewish people seeking refuge. People didn’t look at Jews and think “Oh man they look just like us, so their murders must be important and we have to create a word that describes their condition and the crimes being committed against because we care sooooo much about them”. In reality, most people didn’t really given a shit about all of the Jews being murdered, only when America and the West was being directly threatened by war did they retaliate.
So no, the West didn’t coin the word Genocide to describe the atrocities that Nazi Germany inflicted because the victims looked like them or whatever, the word was created by Polish-Jewish lawyer to describe the oppression that his people were put under.
