Joong: Actually, I moved to Thailand when I was 16. The reason I moved was I wanted to finish school quickly so I could get a job quickly. I really wanted to grow up. I wanted to live my own life because back then I thought being an adult was great. Right? So I started working as an actor. I was actually walking around Siam and then I went to a casting and got the role.

That's really how it happened! In the early days, I participated in a fashion show and accidentally got the first place.

Joong: And then I became more confident and someone just happened to see me. I was walking around Siam, I was in the middle of Siam Square, and a person just pulled me away. They were like: "Are you interested?" I was wearing really nice clothes that day. It was an Abercrombie t-shirt and Gucci jeans.

Yeah, I borrowed them from a friend.

Anyway, I remember going to the casting. Everyone had their hair and makeup done, some already had fans. We all sat down. The line was very long, there were multiple rows. This one guy just stood up, went up to his fans, and started waving. He was saying "thank you", "thank you for your encouragement" and things like that. We were all waiting to go up to the slaughter room.

No, really, they call it "the slaughter room". There was like twelve of us. They weren't saying much, they were just kind of looking at us, and then they told ten people to leave. The only two left were me and another person. They told us: "Ok, you passed". I was asked to do this one bit and then sent home. I came back for the final round, which was like an acting round, and then I finally got to play. I got to be in a series, I became an actor. It was my first drama, I might not have played very well, but I got some fans! My followers on Instagram went from 5.000 to 500.000. So I started as an actor first but then an opportunity came up. I never thought about it before, but I did like idols, I was a fan of many groups. It was BigBang first, then BTS... When I was in Türkiye, even before coming to Thailand, I already liked them. I used to record dance videos with my siblings at home and upload them to the internet.

"Fake Love" [starts singing a little]. Yes, at the time I was obsessed with it, I really loved it. Then I got an opportunity with a Chinese company. They suggested I go to China and join a TV show contest. At the time, I was weighing my options - I was doing pretty well in Thailand, should I stay here? Eventually I decided it would be better for me to move to China. I wanted to try something new and it was an opportunity to do just that. Since I was an actor, I already had events where I sang and things like that, but I never...

Pond: Danced?

Joong: Yeah, I never danced there. Well, maybe just a little. I took only a couple of dancing lessons. Everyone else is like "oh, I've been dancing since I was a kid", but I started when I joined the contest in China. I was training for about two months and it was very stressful, because I had to study both the language and how to dance. And in comparison to the friends I was training with, I was quite inexperienced because some of them had sung and danced before, they had a solid background.

Personally, I was becoming more and more handsome at the time.

Aou: Ooooohhhhh!

Joong: Before that I was still a kid.

So, two or three months passed, we actually went to China to train there. We were meant to go on for two or three more months, then filming would start and the program would air. It was quite fun, because I got a chance to go with friends from Thailand and there were also trainees from other countries - China, Korea, Japan, it was very international. I got to know a lot of people. We were training together and it was a very warm environment. Because we were practising together, living together, waking up together, eating together.

Food was bad, it was food for trainees. Broccoli and fish, stuff like that.

Interviewer: So it wasn't tasty food, it was healthy food.

Joong: Yes, everyone on the show was on a weight control diet. We had to weigh ourselves and then report back every single day. We also had to send video clips, so they could check what we're eating. They were actually looking at our food. They were asking us about our bodies, how we "build discipline".

But hey, let me tell you. There is a trick to weighing yourself. For example, like I weigh what? 77kg or something. If I touch my finger to the wall, it becomes 75kg!

Santa & Pond: Really?????

Joong: And if you press real hard, it will be 70kg.

The food they gave us was Jian Fei food, diet food, but if you think about it, it takes a lot of energy to practice as much as we did. So I ate a lot. I ate a little in secret.

Santa: Just a little?

Joong: Yes! At the time, I was thin. But yeah, everything else was going well - the environment, the friends I made, and all that. The teachers gave me a lot of encouragement because... I was good at dancing, but when I went there, people were on another level. The guys from Japan were dancing so fiercely, the guys from China were like... wow! Some of them had been dancing since they were twelve, others had just started. I realised we are not the same at all. Like let's say there is a close up, right? I wouldn't have been able to dance as fast as my friends.

I felt really bad. Because I was giving my best, but it wasn't good enough. I couldn't remember every move. And there were people who were really good there! Let's say there was a hundred people - one outstanding person received an award from the teacher. Out of a hundred people, one would get a star. Literally. The teacher would take a star and stick it on that person. Me? I never got it! It was both discouraging and tiring. I woke up early to go training at 7 a.m., came back at 11 p.m. every day. Kind of similar to Santa.

Santa: Yeah.

Joong: But still, things were going well. And then, like three days before filming:

COVID.

Aou: Oh no...

Joong: So suddenly it's all over? Honestly, when we first heard the news going around, no one believed it. Everyone was like: "What? No way! The training has been going on for months and hundreds of people are participating, from so many different countries. How could it all just collapse?" But I went back to the dorm and got on a video call with the company. They said: "Listen, kids. The plane tickets will be arranged and then you can go back in about a month. You'll have to quarantine for around 15 days". So I was just stuck in a room for 15 days. It wasn't like I went back to Thailand and was just sitting around feeling sad. I came back to sit alone in a room and cry for 15 days. And it felt like I left everything behind in Thailand and went to China, but then I returned.

It's not just that I was sad....

Pond: But what would happen now that you were back.

Joong: I wasn't part of anything because my contract stated that if I didn't have a show, I was basically independent. I came back and everything just felt so empty. I was like: What should I do? I don't know what to do! There is no way forward. Did I have any money? No. I only had around 50.000 baht left before going to China. And I spent a lot of money there too. I don't know what I was so confident about, but I spent a lot of money. For some reason I was just so sure that somehow, no matter what, I would gain something from this whole experience. It had to have been worth it, someone had to have noticed me. That was my mindset at the time. So, I came back, COVID was happening, and then my dad died.

I have no money. My dad died. COVID.

My dad died, I can't do anything. When my mom called me, I was shooting an MV with my friends. We were supposed to shoot for three days and my mom told me dad passed away on the first day.

Pond: That's awful.

Joong: I cried the first day. I was putting on makeup, crying while putting on makeup by myself because it was a self-made project.

Interviewer: So it was a self-made project with your friends?

Joong: No, with the label. But we did everything on our own, we paid for it on our own, because we wanted to give back to all the fans supporting us in Thailand somehow. We had no shows, no songs, no nothing, so we decided to make it ourselves and pay for it ourselves. Even though we didn't have much money at the time. It was tough.

Interviewer: How did you get through it? What did you tell yourself? You were disappointed, you had no money, someone you love passed away...

Joong: The thing is, I had no one to rely on anymore. If I couldn't rely on myself, there was no one else to help me. I had to survive, my siblings had to survive. So I just fought and kept going. I had to find a way, somehow. I announced that I have no label and just started over. I told my manager at the time, who was taking care of things slowly, that if they had any work, I was prepared to take it. Or maybe I could just go out there and try to find something on my own? Because I was just sitting around doing nothing. At the time, I had this person to take care of me, right? But maybe because of COVID or something like that, they couldn't find me a job. So I thought: Should I keep going like this? If they aren't giving me anything, can I try to find something on my own? Go out there and fight by myself? So I became a freelancer. But in just two weeks, I was contacted by a label, so thankfully I didn't have to stick to freelance for long.

When we made it we all hopped out and rushed into line pulling out our tickets as we got in line, while we waited a guy behind us accidentally bumped into me spilling a bit of his drink on me, I grumbled a bit as I quickly grabbed napkins from my friend patting down the wet spots as the man apologized profusely, “it’s okay, it’s okay.”, we got to the front of the line and went inside the large abandoned looking house hearing music boom throughout the house.

As we walked into the front door we were blinded by the bright flashing lights of the light monitors that flashed all over the place. “Let’s go get drinks!”, my friend yelled as we trailed behind her to the kitchen I ended grabbing a white claw moving into the base mate where they were rocking to a local band that Carla knew, we got the tickets for free cause she knew the leader of the band or at least hooked up with him at least. I tried to keep out of the way I could as I nodded my head to the band when I looked across the room making eye contact with a tall blonde white guy who raised his red solo cup towards with a smile. I nodded, smiling back as I turned back to the band. “Hey.” I looked to my left, seeing the guy from before now standing beside me, “oh, hey.” I said a bit startled, “I’ve never seen you here at any of the parties.”, I shrugged, “Came with friends, I don’t even know the band.”, he smirked as he stood beside me sipping from his cup. “I’m Tate.”, “Nice to meet you, Tate you can call me…Kat.”, he tilted his head, “Kat?”, I nodded, I knew better than to give my real name out especially to random boys at a party that always leads to either rumors or just trouble all around.

For a few minutes we sat in silence, rocking our heads to the various songs until I felt a hard shove making my body jolt I tried turning around until I was practically pushed to the ground making the things in my purse spill out, that’s when things got really crazy. A bunch of people started whooping and hollering as they started jumping around, I tried getting my things as people back into me trying to make room for the people in the pit until I felt a sharp pain in my shin. I yelped, finally grabbing my things and feeling a hand grip my arm pulling me up and wrapping their arms around me, “Yo! Can’t you see you almost trampled this poor thing?!”, Tate barked as he looked down at me with a worried look, “Let’s get out of here,yeah?”, he helped me out of the basement as I limped feeling the sharp pain in my shin get worse. We finally made it to the kitchen and Tate helped me onto the counter as he looked me over, he noticed my bloody shin as he frowned. “Shit, let me find something.”, he came back a few minutes later with a roll of bandages and wrapped it up for me. “I’m sorry, I didn’t get you fast enough I got pushed up against the wall when the ruckus started.”, I smiled and shook my head, “Don’t worry, it’s not your fault. Just stupid people.” We looked at each other for a sec and both chuckled, I looked at him for a second as he stood closer to me with a smile. “You’re kind of cute.”, I said flatly as I watched his face turn a light pink tint, “Really? Cute enough to kiss?”, I giggled as I grabbed his face kissing him softly as he gripped my hips, we began kissing more passionately as I pulled his closer gripping his green sweater, he broke off the kiss moving down to my neck as he nipped and sucked at the sensitive part of my neck. an introduction of sorts

Established in 1962 in mainland Nova Scotia, Dan & The Dandelions have been a classic on Canadian and American radio stations alike since their debut album. Starting off as a folk quartet in the late 1950s, The Dandelions have come a long ways.

Frontman, Dan Miller, was born and raised in a Nova Scotian farm off the Bay of Fundy. Growing up the oldest of 4 siblings and having both parents pass away at a young age, Dan has always been quite aware of his surroundings and place in society’s food chain. As a boy, Dan adored the music of Hank Snow, Wilf Carter, and Patsy Cline, even naming three barn cats after them. After being diagnosed with autism in the 90s, Dan begins fighting and protesting for the better treatment of children and testing of adults that may have been overlooked.

In 1959, Dan formed a small folk quartet called Miller, MacLaughlin, Murray, and Nixon. It had two school buddies, Simon Nixon and Craig “Crash” Murray, and his life-partner, Pete MacLaughlin(married 2006). After Crash had left the group, the other three renamed the band and began travelling across Canada eventually meeting bassist, Blanc Monet.

Simon Nixon was the band’s drummer, an orphaned southern boy adopted by his aunt and uncle in Nova Scotia. Dan and Simon met at 9 and 10 years old in a one-room schoolhouse. “We met the December of 1954– Simon had never seen the snow before, he was like a cactus in a snowy tundra,” said Dan in his 1994 autobiography, Dan Miller; Maritime Boy, Guitar-Wielding Hero. Simon married Scottish paranormal-investigator, Anne Abercrombie upon finding out she was pregnant with their first child. The couple have three children, Lenora (later Lennan), Esme and Celeste.

Pete MacLaughlin, a multi-instrumentalist, son of the CEO of MacLaughlin Oral Care and later husband of Dan Miller. On top of that, Pete is a devote animal activist and gay-rights activist after being outed at the height of the AIDS epidemic. Miller and MacLaughlin had been together since they were teenagers, the two had met during the summer of 1958 and began dating in 1961.

The last member to join was French-Canadian bassist, Hugo-Michel “Blanc” Monet. When he first joined the band, Blanc could barely speak English and was taught by his bandmates. He is the younger brother of famous model and radio personality, Colette Monet, the siblings grew up in an apartment in Québec city. Before joining The Dandelions, Monet was married to Melvina Harris, the two had no children. After his divorce with Melvina, Blanc married fellow musician, Natalie Benoit in 1969, they had one daughter, Avril Monet. A decade after Natalie’s death in 1973, Blanc married friend of the band’s, Jael Levi in 1983, they have one son, Antoine Monet-Levi, and Blanc began treating Jael’s daughter, Juniper Levi like his own.

The only girl in the band would be single mother, protest singer, and women’s rights activist Jael Levi. After being forced to marry at 16 her verbally abusive dear husband, James Hall, mysteriously died (she killed him and was never caught) the next year. Levi had her first child at 18, refusing to let the child have her dead father’s last name she was named Juniper Levi. Jael began writing songs and met Dan & The Dandelions in 1966 after their second album hit the charts.

Their east coast roots have most definitely influenced the band, the usage of fiddles and even bagpipes and the lyrics and stories of maritimers being woven into lyrics. Blending country, folk, and rock into a genre of their own.

I hate naming favourites, but since my most favourite sibling, @telivanistoolateparty, tagged me, I'll do it. Only going to name one of each of my favourites in each category.

Movie: To continue the trend of loving Dreamworks movies, I choose Shrek. As a kid, I watched it so many times that the one time it autoplayed in English, my parents thought I suddenly understood English, because I recited the Danish translation. At four years old. Before I was 10, my grandma had the audacity to diss it, and I spent half an hour telling her how it was about loving yourself the way you are, and that inner beauty was more important than looks. I convinced her in the end. So yeah. Shrek. What a movie.

Character: Um. That's really hard. Since I mostly blog about my idiot Spamanos, I guess everyone expects me to pick one of them, but like. Nah. Let's dig up... Monza Murcatto from Best Served Cold by Joe Abercrombie. It marks one of the first well written female characters by that author, and he hit it out of the park. Monza is the leader of a mercenary group and starts out the book getting betrayed by her employer. Despite being brought as low as anyone can get and almost dying, she ends up on top. I haven't read the book since I was 20, so forgive me for not giving out more details of why I love her.

Animal: I blog a surprising amount about animals I like. But I'll go with my dog. It's the same dog as Teli's dog. She's very cute and also dumb.

Drink: Lemonade – preferably the one I had at a café in Cienfuegos, Cuba. Best lemonade I ever had.

Song: Um. Wow. This is hard. I'll just go with Pink Floyd's The Wall. Because I've listened to it so much.

Season: I hate all seasons with a burning passion. Summer is too hot and there's mosquitoes. Autumn is always gray and it rains. Winter is too cold. Spring would be almost perfect if it wasn't for more rain and the fact that my anxiety goes through the roof every Spring. I hate seasons.

Book: Why would you do this to me? Wtf did I do to deserve this? You don't ask a bibliophile to pick a favourite amongst her children. I have a collection of over 600 books, including 200+ mangas. There's a lot of favourites to pick between. Instead, I think I'll shed light on two of the books I'm really happy about owning. Sommerfugledalen (The Butterfly Valley) by Inger Christensen, which is a poem, and very beautiful. My grandma (same as the one mentioned previously) got it for me a few years ago. Another favourite is my favourite epic, Paradise Lost by Milton, which I have three separate editions of and did my Bachelor's thesis on.

Colour: Pink, of course. Next question.

Hobby: I read a bunch, of course. But I'll mention that I really like embroidery. My sibling has a really cool thing that I embroidered some years back. It's a hobby I do on/off, because I don't always have the time for it.

Big fan of autumn actually, the rains a bit inconvenient but it’s almost cold enough to not be too warm and warm enough to not be too cold.

Also like spring for similar reasons, buts it’s usually a lot more stressful.

Books: I wish I read more but I can say I throughly have enjoyed catch-22, the shame series, gurneys works on art theory, I recently started reading the clan of the cave bear and it’s proving pretty fun.

Now I’m just also gonna list some comics cuz those are something I actually have read a few of: Hellboy, especially Hellboy in hell. Asterios polyp, the Lanfeust series but especially “of the stars”, Mangecour or hjærtedræber as it was called in danish, Order of the stick (if you like DnD and homestuck (especially How worst homestuck is) you oughta check This), stand still stay silent (rereading the prologue during lockdown was a real headfuck) also Scott’s works on comic book theory (understanding comics, making comics, reinventing comics) especially the first one it’s basically a necessity to really get what makes comics great.

Colors:

I’m quite keen of the various shades of green and blue, pinks and magentas are also cool.

Hobbies:

I fucking love mini painting and miniatures in general, when I finally get around to doing it, aside from that there’s also being a kinky dingus and playing music with other people.

OK ANGST LORE TIME

Travis and Bree Abercrombie are two siblings with the same dad and different moms. Travis’s mom died giving birth to him, much to the devastation to the Abercrombie dad who was promised she’d live. Caring for his newborn son, the Abercrombie dad ends up meeting a new woman who out of hearing about his situation decides to help him out and over the course of a couple months into the next year they fall in love. This woman becomes Bree’s mom, mother to a sweet baby girl who’s born two years after her older brother.

And while Bree’s mother could handle one kid, she couldn’t handle two. She became quickly immature and impatient with raising two kids, saddling a lot of the work onto the father to deal with the children. This instigated lots of fights almost every day. Fights the kids would hear, maybe sometimes ending in Bree crying and Travis comforting, typically ending in the father going to the kids late at night after brutal arguments to apologize that they had to hear that.

And it didn’t cease in holidays just because they were holidays, no matter how much the Abercrombie dad and children wish they would. Didn’t matter. Something ALWAYS happened. Some fight ALWAYS occurred. And two kids were left wondering if they’d ever have one good moment to breathe, and the youngest was left wondering if this was all the fault of her mere existence.

Since I am taking a trip down DGSD 2003 memory lane, have my favorite (aka most bonkers) scene.

honey however barged into their lives while di and hilal were on a picnic date. she helped herself to their basket (which was hilarious bc she could barely reach) and she just wouldnt shoo. she eventually sat on hilal, following the if i fits i sits rule. she was very convincing. they took her back to camp where she terrorised bie by being an extrovert lol. but they got along eventually. ish.

after the war abercrombie vanished. consumed by her own grief hilal assumed that hed gone too. whatever living thing she had of di had left her as well. it was some time later when he showed up, biting her fingers and calling her to follow him. apparently honey had given birth to a litter of one in their little home somewhere in the woods

she chose ambrosia for a name (ami for short) for the rusty gold eyes shed inherited from honey. shes the infirmarys first healer (therapy) cat, beloved by all but remains partial to hilal.
