Note
could you do a blind azula with sokkla au
Hello, anon!!!
1. Azula is born blind. No one knows why but she is. Ursa tries to argue that Azula will be a strong child and capable of bending to her full capacity but Ozai doesnā€™t believe her. Azula is still a strong bender but Ozai thinks that her blindness will keep her from being a real firebender. Ursa, desperately trying to keep her baby alive, gives her away in the hopes that someone else can protect her. Azula is bounced around for a while until she ends up in the South Pole and found by Kya and Hakoda, who take the infant in and decide to raise her.
2. Azula never let her blindness stop her from playing, doing chores or fighting with Sokka. She and him would constantly run around the village, chasing each other with snowballs, and try to out do each other in different chores. Hakoda tries to go easy on the girl when it comes to fishing or carving, etc but Azula doesnā€™t like it and demands to be treated the same as Sokka and Katara. By the time sheā€™s six, Hakoda gave up on trying to go easy on Azula and gives her the same tasks as the other kids. Kya, for her part, never treated the kids differently except to tell Azula that she wasnā€™t from the Water Tribe. Since she canā€™t see, Azula would have no way of knowing Kya isnā€™t her mother but Kya makes it clear to Azula very early on that she isnā€™t and her real mother is probably in the Earth Kingdom somewhere (this isnā€™t done in a malicious way more-so in a way so that Azula knows the truth). Azula also learns to see by ā€œseeingā€ heat. She can basically see heat sources and therefore knows when people are around her.
3. When Kya is killed, Azula swears off firebending. Mother or not, Azula loved Kya and her death really hits her hard. No matter what Hakoda says, Azula refuses to bend. She keeps that promise for years afterwards even when they find Aang, Azula introduces herself as a nonbender. She even refuses to teach Aang any firebending for a while because sheā€™s dedicated herself to not bending (Actually turns out to be a blessing because Ozai doesnā€™t identify her as Azula until after the North Pole siege). Speaking of, Azula sees Sokka in trouble during the siege and uses her bending to protect him. (Azula: Sokka?! Are you okay?! Sokka: Iā€™m okay. Iā€™m okay. Youā€¦you firebent. Azula: I guess I did. Sokka: To help me. Azula: Oh, no. Sokka: You like me! Azula: No! No, I donā€™t! Sokka: Azula likes me! Azula likes me! Azula: Hey! Is there any other soldier who wants to kill him for me?!!)
4. Ozai changes Zukoā€™s mission to instead capturing Azula and the Avatar and gives him Mai and Ty Lee as support. Azula is now using her bending so itā€™s a bit easier to track her (a blind firebender has got to attract some attention) but they canā€™t capture her. And, since Azula left the palace when she was a baby, she has no idea who Mai and Ty Lee are and she and Zuko donā€™t know theyā€™re related. (Of course Ozai twists the story when he tells Zuko and says Azula was stolen from them by the Water Tribe which is why he needs to get her back). Throughout this, the Gaang really doesnā€™t know any of that and instead are focused on finding Aang an earthbending teacher: enter Toph. Toph and Azula would make every blind joke known to man and are constantly helping each other out with little tricks. (Sokka: Spirits, thereā€™s two of them). Just a Toph & Azula friendship. (Toph: So, anything you want to tell me. Azula: About what? Toph: About you and Snoozles? Azula: What-are you-no. No, thereā€™s nothing to say. Toph: Really? Because if I didnā€™t know any better Iā€™d say you have a massive crush on him. Azula: I do not! Toph: And youā€™re heartbeat increasing when you hear him voice, constantly going to his side, sitting right next to him at dinner and holding onto him when you canā€™t see is allā€¦Azula: Shut up)
5. In BSS, Azula joins Zukoā€™s side (let me explain) and returns to the Fire Nation with him. She never mastered lightning but the Dai Li does being down a cave on Aang and Katara, believing them dead. The siblings, Mai and Ty Lee return to the Fire Nation and declare the Avatar and his friend dead. Unknown to them, but known to Azula, Toph was right behind them and kept them from being crushed. The Gaang now is able to travel with everyone thinking theyā€™re dead and having Azula as a secret double agent (something Sokka isnā€™t too fond of but it was his and Azulaā€™s idea). Theyā€™re reunited during the DOBS, a time when Zuko tries to tell Azula what Ozai told him and Hakoda, who is there, tells Zuko that some fishermen found Azula and dropped her off in the South Poleā€”they didnā€™t steal herā€”and he pokes a few holes in Ozaiā€™s lie, but Zuko doesnā€™t want to doubt his father (since he spent most of his time under Ozaiā€™s thumb and all). The invasion force is still captured, while the Gaang escape to the Western Air Temple, with Hakoda eventually being sent to the Boiling Rock. However, this time, he comes across a woman with a very familiar face who introduces herself as Ursa.

NATLA Episode 2 Debrief (by yours truly)
Hi again! Here's episode 1 if anyone is interested. This is going to be another outrageously long post, just a tw
I absolutely loved the ominous start and then it's just:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They really captured the Zuko/Iroh dynamic the cartoon had in this scene. I hope they keep this sort of thing throughout the show. Also, side note, but for whatever reason Zuko seems a LOT more violent in this version. This child needs some serious therapy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I guess this is their version of the map joke, huh? Low-key disappointed but not as mad as I thought I would be.
Tumblr media
I'm not sure how I feel about the writers prolonging some of the conflicts that were resolved back in the SWT into this episode. I guess it makes sense that they would have to extend the drama, but I'm a little disappointed these thoughts didn't make it into the first episode. I'm glad they're included, but I think at this point team avatar had started to feel like family already in the cartoon, so it's kind of annoying and misses the mark a bit.
Tumblr media
Yes I'm so glad they put GranGran's blessing back in! I was really mad when they took it out, but this honestly feels more meaningful than it did in the cartoon. It's a precious cultural artifact rather than just a couple of blankets. This is similar to what I was mad about with extending SWT conflicts, but I don't have nearly as much of a problem with it, as it seems like they're carrying a little piece of home with them rather than just extra drama.
Tumblr media
The burial scene was very sweet and sad. It gave us a bit more insight into Air Nomad culture, and a sense of closure the cartoon didn't really give us. A+ for Gordon's acting as well (he is perfect for this part, even if he does still need some more acting experience)
Tumblr media
Zuko has officially mastered the "my uncle dragged me here and I'm an agnsty teenager" face. A+ to Dallas for this entire scene. I am absolutely LOVING the Iroh and Zuko dynamic. Never change (jk I wish you a wonderful redemption arc)
Tumblr media
Suki looks just as beautiful as she did in the trailer. Unfortunately can't say the same for the Kyoshi statue (I wish it had been made out of wood), but there is something to be said for the little shrines to the avatars instead of a few big ones. I actually kind of like that they changed that element, and I hope they explore it more in future episodes, because I assume some of the spiritualism surrounding them would have to be changed. Side note: but I've seen nothing of the spirit world so far and I'm getting a little nervous. I guess I wouldn't mind if they decided it was some long-lost avatar trick or is introduced in the NWT, but if they get rid of it altogether I'm gonna be pissed.
Tumblr media
I'm glad they decided to make Kyoshi Island a matriarchal society instead of having a male leader. It just makes sense based on the lore and I like to see more strong adult women than in the cartoon. Also Suki got a mom! Maybe she'll get some development too!
Tumblr media
This Aang speech was very in-your-face storytelling, but I feel like the whole show is gonna be like that so I'm just accepting it at this point. I think it stayed true to his character while getting the point across, and it also kind of helped his character compared to the cartoon. He's very emotionally open and has a charming nativity about him, but he's clearly trying to help. Loved it.
Tumblr media
He's so awkward I love it. This whole interaction was really cool, because it expanded on their relationship in a cool way. They're both struggling between doing what their parents expect of them to help their respective villages, but are being faced with a pull to the outside world, Suki with her "big heart" and Sokka with his need to protect Katara. Thishonestly gives more depth to their relationship and I don't mind the writers dragging out first episode conflicts if this is how they're choosing to explore them.
Tumblr media
Aww look at these cute little siblings. I like that the writers are giving them more time to progress from strangers to besties. Their interactions seem more natural, and Aang's grief more realistic. It's also great to once again see Katara growing more confident and powerful in her abilities. I love the smell of some good character development in the making.
Tumblr media
Look at her face! She's like,"I'm so good at flirting. Mother would be proud." Meanwhile Sokka's scared of her. Anyway I'm living for their scenes and they're making me giggle. (Despite Sokka's sexism being toned down it still exists to a lesser level and I love to see her beating his ass while he tries to flex)
Tumblr media
I love the new subplot! I love that flashback! I love this conflict! It gives more credence to his fears as a prodigy. Whatever writer came up with this deserves a hug.
Tumblr media
AHH the ship is sailing! I love Sokka learning to be more open minded! I love Suki learning to be more open-hearted! I love when characters in romantic relationships learn from each other! This is giving Suki and Sokka development in ways the cartoon did not without trying to play Sokka's sexism off as a joke and also giving us more screentime and when I say I love it I mean I am doing a happy dance right now!
Okay, so just a quick word on shipping besides Sukka because as Zutara trash I am legally required to do this:
Tumblr media
It seems like they are keeping the zutara hope parallel intact, with Katara and Zuko both finding hope in the avatar but in different ways. However, I don't think this really changes anything. So far, there's beven nothing to suggest they're going with ZK instead of KA, and I'm a little worried that they're trying to parallel Sukka and KA wwith the way they're setting up both girls as kind of a "teacher" to the boys in a way and giving both ships a huge amount of screentime in the same episode. Also, and I hate to say this, they might be attempting to fix KA by toning down Katara's anger and her "dark side". She didn't get angry to break the iceberg and they're eliminating her entire waterbending scroll plotline. They're trying to make them a better match for each other by watering her down and therefore increasing her connection with Aang and decreasing the chance of a future connection with Zuko over their anger and shared trauma. It's sad news that I didn't want to deliver, and I've seen spoilers that there is another ZK moment later down the line, but at this point, I think KA is a lot more plausible than ZK. *cries*
Tumblr media
In slightly less depressing news, they're inserting the avatar state plotline a lot earlier. This makes sense with the condensed timeline, and I think I like the way they're going with it so far. I hope they keep the concept of avatar guide intact, though, and I'm worried that they're going to play into more of a connection to all of his past lives instead of just Roku. I kind of hate Roku but I do think that's a major concept I don't want them to get rid of, and his inaction during a time of adversity mirror's Aang's own challenges with confrontation. Their dynamic is a good one, and I wouldn't be opposed to changed but I really hope they don't entirely throw it out.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Scratch whatever the fuck I said before. I'm back on my shipping bullshit I can't believe we got a BONUS FIGHT! Also kudos to whoever decided Zhao should burn the village instead of Zuko. I was always so pissed at him whenever I rewatched this episode and now I can sleep easy knowing it was that military dipshit instead of him
Tumblr media
I love Kyoshi to an unhealthy extent but I kind of wish Katara had been the one to go off on him. It would have seriously fixed things.
Tumblr media
COUPLES THAT FIGHT TOGETHER ARE THE BEST COUPLES CHANGE MY MIND
Also, side note, but I love the hair these in fight scenes:
Tumblr media
Most action movies hairspray the shit out of them but these actors are allowed to look a little disheveled while they kick ass. Huge thank you to whoever decided that more natural hair is superior cuz they are 100% correct
Tumblr media Tumblr media
THE BONUS FIGHT SCENE IS NO LONGER COOL I REPEAT THE BONUS FIGHT SCENE IS NO LONGER COOL
Tumblr media
I think this was the perfect conclusion to Sukka (for now)! Sokka learned something so much more valuable and impactful than in the cartoon, in my opinion. His masculinity is handled very well in my opinion, and even if I would have liked to see him wear the warrior outfit, there's something really great about the way he continues to embrace protectiveness, a masculine trait, while having rid himself of toxic masculinity, such as not being able to learn from others. He's leaving a more open minded and humble person and I love the way they portrayed it.
Tumblr media
Okay the speech was a little on the nose but I liked it. One of the best things about ATLA was the way they executed Aang's childishness ending up beneficial for the world. I think the new conflict is expanding on that nicely while staying true to its roots. *pats writers on the head*
Tumblr media
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH IS THIS REAL I LOVE IT SO MUCH AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Tumblr media
IM TRYING SO HARD NOT TO THINK ABOUT THIS LINE AND HOW IT COULD BE ANOTHER PARALLEL TO K/A I HATE IT BUT I LOVE IT AT THE SAME TIME LETS JUST FOCUS ON SUKI SAYING SOKKA HELPED HER AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Also the fan was so cute. That last scene on Appa really wrapped everything up nicely. I like the way they tied in the conflicts between the siblings while engineering growth for Sokka.
Tumblr media
Daniel Kim delivered in his two seconds of screentime. Zhao was such a bitch but idk what else I expected. Can't wait to see more of these two bastards in future!
Anyway, to recap:, things I did like:
Aang's new conflicts
Sokka's mini arc
SUKKA
Expanding on Katara's PTSD
Zhao burning the town instead of Zuko
Zuko and Iroh's dynamic
Things I didn't like:
Katara's characterization
Lack of Aang's actual avatar guide
K/A hints and lack of zutara implications
Postponing the Zhao and Zuko agni Kai
Overall, I have to say I think that they're playing into the core themes very well while expanding on the characters. If it weren't for the whole Katara debacle this would be a 9/10 episode, but with the Katara debacle imma give it a 7/10. Still, I can at least understand why the writers made their crappy decisions, even if I don't agree with them. Hopefully certain things are fixed in future episodes, but as it stands I think I'll live (barely)

Zuko Fic Recs
This list will include all ratings and tags, so read at your own discretion! :)
When in Doubt, Go to the Library by Returquoise - Rated T
"I am Wan Shi Tong, He Who Knows Ten Thousand Things, and this is my library, my domain," he answered instead, "Who are you, mortal?" The boy hesitated but answered, "I... was Prince Zuko of the Fire Nation. My... the Fire Lord has banished me, with no recourse to return." aka Wan Shi Tong adopts Zuko AU
5 times Zuko called the Avatar Grandpaā€¦ by SeleneMoon - Rated G
...and 1 time Aang asked why Hopefully updating every two days.
hello moon, it's me by chaoticsandstorm - Rated M
"There a lot of things about Zuko that the servants ignore. He is half-way between skins now. He shed the old one and hasnā€™t grown into the new one, trapped between worlds and skins and identities. Some days he feels more like Li the war-child refugee than Zuko, the Fire Lord." Zuko attempts to lead his nation into peace, kicking and screaming in protest. He discovers what it means to survive a war- and a childhood- that no one ever wanted or expected him to.
Scriven Me Softly by SensationalSunburst - Rated G
ā€œItā€™s a piece of history,ā€ He argued and she was, as always, shocked at the rolling gravel that flowed quietly from his mouth, ā€œWe must preserve it.ā€ And Mae, whoā€™d spent hours scrubbing the ghost of bloodied fingerprints from her brushes and days willing the scratch of pen to paper to drown out the sound of the Fire Princess's wailing; had looked at the child clutching ruined parchment to his chest and suddenly understood like a punch to the jaw why Prince Iroh had to be physically restrained from murdering his brother in cold blood. Or The early days of Firelord Zuko's reign as described by his Royal Stenographer.
blade of silver, forge of blue by MikkiOfTheAnbu - Rated T
ā€œBlessed Spirit, we thank you for the gift of this childā€™s life. We are forever in your debt.ā€ The whole village is kneeling now, even the tiniest toddlers flopped down on their stomachs doing their best approximation of a bow. ā€œPlease, wonā€™t you give us a name to call you? We would like to properly express our gratitude.ā€ Oh. Well shit. (Where Zuko saves a little Earth Kingdom girl from drowning, the villagers think he's a Spirit, build him a shrine, and long story short, a fake story about the Blue Spirit who dances with dragons suddenly becomes very real.)
Perfection is Overrated by JaggedCliffs - Rated G
For his first thirteen years, Zuko was raised in a palace. And yet somehow, it's the three years outside the Fire Nation that seem to count more ā€“ at least to the palace staff, who act like he's been raised by fox-wolves. At first, this only annoys Zuko. Until he begins to think that the Fire Nation needs more than a formerly-banished prince.
What the Fire Lord did to his Son by hearmerory - Rated T
Toph knew the story. Every Earth Kingdom child did. About how the prince of the Fire Nation had been burned in front of an audience of hundreds, and then sent away to sail Earth Kingdom waters on a pointless search. The Earth Kingdom knew the kind of man the Fire Lord was. And Toph knew the kind of boy the Fire Prince had been.
The Cavern and the Koi Pond by Rosie447 - Rated G
The last thing Zuko remembered clearly was being on the bridge in the North Pole, and losing his grip on the railing with the sudden realization that offering mercy to the man whoā€™d thrown fire at his back the last time heā€™d beaten him was perhaps not amongst his best ideas. Or, Zhao takes Zuko's hand and pulls. The Spirit World is not entirely sure what to do with the unexpected stowaway.
How to Make a Spirit Fox by DevinePhoenix - Rated G
Everyone is born with animal features, a reflection of the spirit animal that represents their soul. Zuko is born as a fox in a royal family of cats. Also at some point he impersonates a spirit so well no one believes him when he says that he's not.
put the weight on me by orphan_account - Rated T
ā€œI think heā€™s sick.ā€ Bato says flatly. ā€œSo unless you want the next meeting to include the Fire Lord puking all over the budget scrolls, maybe see if he's okay?ā€ Hakoda glances up the hallway, like perhaps Katara will appear and take over dealing with the prickly teenager. Of course, his daughter is off treating injured refugees with the Avatar, and Bato is still staring at him expectantly, arms crossed. ā€œFine,ā€ He sighs, and he claps Bato on the cheek before heading into the room. Or: Zuko falls ill not long after Ozai's defeat. Hakoda sits with him and learns some unpleasant truths about his childhood.
fulminate by entropy_muffin - Rated T
The sun sets on the Day of Black Sun. The coronation is held at dawn.
We Are All Doomed by renegade_of_theworld - Rated G
Palace staff has VERY bad timing... they think that Fire Lord Zuko will kill them all. Zuko doesn't know what is going on. OR Palace staff gossips. And it looks like Fire Lord Zuko is worse than Ozai.
things lost in the fire by earlgreylover98 - Rated G
The wanted poster had the scar on the wrong side.
Maybe he didnā€™t care enough to look at the poster before it got sent out. Or maybe, Ozai didnā€™t actually remember which side of his sonā€™s face he had burned off all those years ago. Zuko wasnā€™t sure what was worse. Ozai had know which side the scar was on. He had to remember. Right?
In which Zuko isn't sure Ozai knows which side of his face he burnt off and it sends him spiraling.

Okay but consider this
So there are many fics where Sokka and Zuko decide to hire a surrogate to have their baby, either Mai or a stranger, or go for adoption. But in the case of adoption, even if Zuko is the Fire Lord, he knows many traditionalist people will give his future child a lot of trouble for not having royal blood, but at the same time heā€™d rather die then hire a some sort of concubine (assuming artificial insemination wasnā€™t developed yet). So, Sokka and Zuko combine their halves of a braincell and come up with a plan.
Zuko declares to the council Mai will be their surrogate. A week later, Mai shows up in the middle of a meeting and declares with her usual bored stare: ā€œZuko Iā€™m pregnant.ā€ And Zuko and Sokka, like the amazing actors they are, pretend to be excited, even fake cry ā€œSokka we gonna be dads!ā€ ā€œYeah, we gonna be dads of a child. Your child. Totally royal blood.ā€ After that, Zuko will send Mai (accompanied with Ty Lee as her personal body guard and definitely not because they are secretly dating) to the beach house in Ember Island because he will not expose Mai and ā€œthe babyā€ Ā to the stress of politics and all.
In the meantime, Mai and Ty Lee will travel to different orphanages to find a baby that looks the closest to Zuko to do the trick.
When they come back, Mai is like ā€œhere you go, Fire Lord Zuko, your child, that I delivered, with Ty Lee and Katara as witness (because they told Katara about their plan and she agreed to pretend to be the one who helped deliver the baby) and by the way I donā€™t want to take responsibility of this kid, and Iā€™d prefer if she called me aunt. Good luck. Im outta here.ā€
And so Sokka and Zuko become dads, and everyone just knows the kid was adopted because the baby is way too big to be a new born and is probably at least a year old or two and yeah they clearly see through that bullshit but canā€™t really prove it.

People who go out of their way to demonize Azula while sweeping Iroh and Zuko's flaws under the rug just make Iroh and Zuko look worse.
Iroh and Zuko have been given perspective; Azula hasn't. All Zuzu has to do is talk to her, show her the errors of both her and his ways, and she'll change her mind. There already have been too many tragedies like Zuko being mutilated and Iroh losing his own son; when does it stop? Zuko is a (justfiedly) angry man, who's got plenty of issues and used to constantly lash out at anyone who did not kiss his ass, but he is reasonable when he gets his head out of his butt. If he can be, then why she can't?
"Not every character deserves redemption" say this to Aang and he'll airbend your ass into the next episode (that's probably not going to receive a good budget by Nickelodeon). He was willing to give Ozai a chance, even while fighting him. When he was trying to burn the Earth Kingdom to the ground and kill him.
Also, if Zuko is such a *ooooh* saint as you portray him to be, then he has no reason to not give her a chance. I'm not saying Azula did not bad things (she did), but she's also only a child (14 years old) and Zuko has also done plenty, plenty of bad things himself (while being older - 16 years old), but has been, although in a very unfortunate manner, been blessed with enlightenment of the bad things that are happening in the world and that they need to change during his exile. Had he not been given that, they would probably be side by side in the end (and they would've won because they're unstoppable together).
Zuko giving her a chance to become a better person, doesn't ruin his redemption arc, but makes it better. The guy who had so much resentment and jealousy for his little sister, who was also entitled to the Fire Nation throne despite not even being the main heir (neither to the original line of succession - Lu Ten, Iroh - nor to his father's eyes - Azula), who had to capture the Avatar and help his father destroy the other nations just to deserve a small bit of respect that he (much like his sister) naturally deserved but never got, becoming the Avatar's best friend and peacemaker, willing to rule alongside his sister to break the cycle of family hatred and power struggle, all while giving her a different point of view and making her a better person not only gives her an opportunity to have a redemption arc and a chance to recover, but also reaffirms his own by proving that it did not only happen, but it still happening as he continues to become a better person
And the best part: Zuko is allowed to be his own character. He realizing his sister being stronger, smarter and more talented than him, doesn't make him weak, stupid or unskilled. And that, naturally, no matter how much you train there'll always be someone better, but that doesn't make your efforts pointless. He doesn't need the Fire Nation throne to be his own person, and me saying this is not saying he can't rule; he can, but he needs to find a reason other than respect (because he shouldn't have to become a tyrant to deserve the natural appreciation a father should have for his own children, and neither pretend to be someone else's dead son).
If he wants to rule the Fire Nation with kindness... than he needs to be kind himself. And not only to Azula, but to his uncle, to Mai, to Ty Lee, to the gaang and to all other characters that, willingly (or unwillingly) he hurt, like Song and her mother, the Kyoshi Island and South Water Tribe inhabitants, his crew, etc.
He has the knife and the cheese. He can cut and share it with other people and stop them from starving or he can throw the knife away and eat all of the cheese, while giving excuses as to why the other people are dying, and watch as they stab him in the back. And in the comics case, he can also throw the cheese away and shove the knife up his ass, apparently.
But this is my opinion and it's just that.
Unrelated: if you want Zuko to have a more unique fighting style in comparison to Azula, why not make him combine his swords with his firebending'? Sure, Sokka uses a sword, but Zuko uses two and the former also uses a boomerang as well. Ah, this is probably just a topic for another ask and this one is already too long anyway...
It could also be a comedy bit with Sokka pointing that out to him and he's like "Huh? Is that legal?" or something, I don't know.
THIS IS THE TYPE OF QUALITY CONTENT I CRAVE!

Note
In your last post you talked a lot about how Zuko respects Iroh. Could you give some examples of that? Because I'm feeling like Zuko doesn't really respect anyone, he (understandably) has an ego and thinks he's above everyone, even if he's working on
It is such a shame that Avatar: The Last Airbender (2005) was cancelled after two episodes.
Lol, now that I've got that out of my system, I'm gonna assume you aren't just a troll and treat this like you actually want a serious answer, because it gives me an opportunity to meta about Zuko and Iroh's relationship.
I would say that the Zuko we are introduced to has a pretty big ego, yeah, and thinks he's above everyone else. He's incredibly disrespectful to most everyone he meets, including his long-suffering uncle. When I started the show I knew through cultural osmosis that Zuko would get redeemed, and from the first episode I was like "alright, I'm ready to see how the show is gonna make me like this asshole." I especially did have a negative reaction to the way he treats Iroh in the beginning, because Iroh is one of the first characters I loved. I also was sympathetic to Iroh because I'm an adult, and an adult who works with kids. If any of my students said to me some of the stuff that Zuko says to Iroh I'd be like, yeah, okay, detention for you young man.
It's also pretty clear from early on though that Zuko's ego comes from a deep insecurity and low self-esteem. That doesn't make the things he does any better, and yes he is incredibly disrespectful to Iroh, especially when Iroh contradicts him about his mission. That's also related to his deep insecurity and trauma surrounding his father, of course, because Zuko needs to believe that he can win back his father's acceptance to cope with what his father did to him, but that doesn't excuse it.
He says some incredibly nasty things to Iroh. In the first episode we see him respond angrily when Iroh won't teach him more advanced firebending, and Zuko responds, as he does several times, by trying to imitate his father's brand of coercion and intimidation. Iroh is like, not impressed, and he puts up with a lot of crap from Zuko but he also doesn't let it get to him because he's a responsible adult and he wants to support Zuko in the way he can. Which also means telling him off sometimes because dude.
Zuko thinks Iroh is lazy and a failure, and resents the fact that Iroh is keeping him from what he says he is "more than ready" for, and tries to bully Iroh when he doesn't get his way, but then we see in the third episode, "The Southern Air Temple," Zuko's fight with Zhao. We see that for all Zuko's complaining about Iroh's teaching, he does what Iroh taught him to do, he sticks to his basics, and he wins. Iroh says that Zuko is honorable and we see that Zuko appreciates Iroh's support. It's also implied by the way Zhao mentions humiliating Zuko in front of his uncle that Zuko wants Iroh to be proud of him, that it's obvious to Zhao how close they are.
Another example of the show letting us know that Zuko cares more about his uncle than he lets on is when he threatens to leave Iroh behind in "Winter Solstice" but then comes back for him to find him gone, and goes out of his way to search for him, even setting aside his hunt for Aang. Zuko fights the earthbenders to save Iroh and Iroh compliments his form, to which Zuko says Iroh taught him well. This episode does a lot to develop Zuko as a character and his relationship with Iroh because not only do we see that Zuko cares for his uncle, but that, contrary to his rudeness and dismissiveness in episode one, Zuko does respect Iroh as a teacher and a bender.
There's a lot of examples like this where Zuko says one thing but does another, because Zuko is a character who, at the beginning of the story, carries a lot of cognitive dissonance and guards his real feelings about things. His relationship with Iroh is an example. This isn't very surprising because it's pretty common in child psychology. Especially with kids who have been abused, they will rebel against an authority figure and push back in any way they can to see if they can find a breaking point. Iroh's endlessly patient and supportive but solid and firm presence is something Zuko is not used to and doesn't know how to deal with. But it's very clear that Zuko relies on Iroh as a father and mentor, even when Zuko doesn't realize it yet.
"The Avatar State" in another episode that shows how much Zuko relies on Iroh. At the beginning of the episode Zuko is sitting apart and it's implied that he's not happy with Iroh relaxing and getting a massage, but Zuko also opens up to Iroh about his feelings about his father. Zuko also is dismissive and rude to Iroh again in this episode, criticizing Iroh for collecting shells and also insulting Iroh when Iroh contradicts him about going with Azula, but then Zuko is happy when Iroh goes with him to Azula's ship, and we get that flash of the image of Ozai with his hand on Zuko's shoulder. This tells us that Zuko sees Iroh as the kind of mentor figure that he wishes his father were, even if, again, Zuko doesn't quite realize this yet. There are many other examples like this where Zuko is frustrated by not getting Iroh's approval on something because he wants Iroh to be proud of him. Like when he steals the teapot and gives it to Iroh and Iroh is not interested in stolen items. Zuko's clearly hurt by not having Iroh's approval, which is a big part of why he left Iroh, and Iroh knows that Zuko is struggling to find himself but also still needs his support.
Then you have "Bitter Work," the lightning bending, and Zuko's look of total admiration when Iroh is bending lightning and teaching Zuko a move that he invented himself. Like I said before, it's clear that Zuko respects Iroh as a powerful bender. This is also echoed in that scene in the book two finale when Iroh is about to breathe fire and Zuko has this look of "wow my uncle is going to beat you so bad this is going to be great!"
There's also a lot of little stuff in the Ba Sing Se arc that show that Zuko respects Iroh and values him as a mentor figure. He lets Iroh do his hair for his date with Jin! It looks terrible! Zuko has no idea how to behave on a date so he's like um, uncle said to give you this coupon! Look how smart my uncle is! Of course the culmination of that arc is Zuko's fever and his awakening which gives him a renewed respect for Iroh, and he actually makes an effort to show Iroh how much he values him. He still betrays Iroh in Ba Sing Se but it's not the "I hate you and you smell!" thing that the play portrays it as. One of the reasons Zuko was so confused there was because he felt like his uncle was telling him contradictory things, and he couldn't reconcile his uncle's wisdom with what he'd been taught to believe by Ozai.
But it's finally losing Iroh as that pillar of support that makes Zuko truly realize how much he does value his uncle. It still takes him a while to get there, and he again pushes back against Iroh when Iroh won't talk to him in prison and blames him for his own internal turmoil. But when he does finally get there, it's such a slap in the face to Ozai that Zuko on the Day of Black Sun tells him to his face that Iroh is his real father, that Zuko is going to fall to his knees and beg for Iroh's forgiveness, because Zuko has realized that Iroh is the one who really deserves his respect. Not only does Zuko tell Ozai that he, in fact, did not teach him anything about respect, but the respect Ozai tried to get from his son through cruelty and control is something Zuko will freely give to Iroh.
Then Zuko spends the next several episodes constantly talking about how great Iroh is, how much he misses him, how good he is at making tea and telling jokes, how wise he is, and what an ass he, Zuko, had been to him. He follows Iroh's advice and humbles himself because Iroh always said he didn't think things through enough, he works hard to make himself into someone his uncle would be proud of. Then when he does meet Iroh again he asks for forgiveness, but he says that even if Iroh won't forgive him he would try to make it up to him. He's completely humbled himself and it's so satisfying because it's the fulfilment of their relationship arc, and you can feel the love and respect that these two characters have for each other. And it's directly meant to contrast with what Ozai said about respect, because Ozai is full of shit.
And then Zuko just like automatically assumes that Iroh will be the Fire Lord and Iroh's like "Zuko did you forget that you are the crown prince?" And Zuko, bless his heart, is like "but I made so many mistakes."
I'm sorry, but if you're gonna keep arguing that Zuko, at this point, still "thinks he's above everyone else" then you are just being willfully obtuse.
Not to mention the fact that Zuko's crowning moment as Fire Lord is him giving a speech about how he wants to serve others, to heal the world, and even the applause and praise that he, in the beginning, wanted from others is something he doesn't accept. He tells everyone that Aang is the real hero. And Aang is a hero but like, Zuko is a hero, too, by showing heroic qualities like being selfless and humble and caring towards others. And then his last scene is not him as Fire Lord, but serving tea to everyone dressed in Earth Kingdom clothes.
And who does he serve tea to first? Uncle.

A scene from Azula's House of Wonders
Ursa had much to think about in the wake of her return and helping Azula to begin to walk again. The release of Princess Jiren, whose expression was malevolent and murderous to her, at least, with a quiet element that nobody was willing to explain and had left Iroh stunned.....that she could deal with later. For now, she'd heard that Azula had kept her entire set of letters and she had a sense of unease about things.
The way her daughter looked at her, unwilling to believe that she did love her had not come from nowhere. One time of a horrified statement when she had fallen from the fifth, peak floor of a pagoda unharmed should not have left that impression.
So now she was in her daughter's room. As with Zuko, she did not look around then (she would return a month later with a very different mood and intent to find something and would indeed find it after giving it that look). Unlike with Zuko the letter-collection was there, closed where he had left it open.
She went over to it and picked up the letter carefully folded and which had remained on top where Zuko read it. A letter that little traces of ash at the edge showed had been read and reread and there was pa-
Her eyes froze on words. "Zuko is the only good thing I have in the Palace." She did not even remember writing those words, but she realized, from the ways the ash-smudges grew that her little girl must have seen it. With a mounting sense of dread she looked at the other letters that showed these marks and saw the same messages. Where she spoke of Zuko it was warmth. Where it was Azula it was occlusion or contempt and anger.
And then her world crashed down around her for a moment and she sat on that bed, the letters scattered. What would a child have thought when she vanished without even giving her a kiss that night, afraid for her own life and willingly neglecting her? If she read words that in a few cases, as when she'd written to Iroh of her 'little monster' were meant to be joking, she was sure?
She moved in great haste to Azula's new room, knocking on the door.
"Come in," her daughter's voice spoke.
-------
Azula found one of the small hells of her current life that she couldn't move much or do anything about how other people swept toward her and the fear from the chi-blocking meant she couldn't even fully express it. But when her mother swept her into a hug and rocked her, weeping and telling her she was sorry for writing so many hurtful things she didn't need immobility in her limbs to freeze.
She waited until Ursa had cried it out and watched her mother move to the bed, dabbing her eyes.
"I have no excuses for my words, Azula." Her mother's voice was hoarse.
"Parents should not write those things about their children."
She took a deep breath. "You are not a monster, you were not a horrid child. I know why you believed I believed that, and when I wrote those letters, even giving the impression would be enough."
She sighed.
"I am not helping you relearn...." she moved her hands, "everything you've lost to make up for my failings. I am doing that because I love you. I will admit with that kind of legacy I left you, those letters, that phantom of me you saw....." she bit her lip. "I have a very long path to take with that. And I can understand if you would not be willing to grant it to me."
Azula had been taught manipulation, and would have heard it immediately in her mother's voice as she did in her father's. Hearing those words from an Ursa who was shaken, speaking words from the heart, left her quiet in turn.
She spoke, quietly, and equally sincerely. "I don't mind your helping me." Ursa's gaze met her own, as Azula gave her a fragile smile. "Between you and the Avatar I'm blessed in people who help me I never thought would."
She bit her lip. "If Aang can give me a second chance after I almost killed him, I can definitely give my actually present mother to show she's not the person in those letters."
Her mother put her hand on her shoulder, where she could feel it, and whispered in her ear a single choked phrase. "Thank you."
The two stayed in the room, in a peaceful silence, and the fires of hope in Azula kindled more.

After seeing the idea of Sun!Spirit/Prince Zuko, I've been wanting a Tangled AU. Zuko is Rapunzel, Ozai is Gothel, Iroh, Ursa and Azula are the King and Queen, the Gaang are Flynn/Eugene but Sokka is the one who ends up with Zuko. Mai and Ty Lee are the Stabington brothers but with the twist of not being criminals and the Kiyoshi warriors are the thugs from the Ugly Duckling.
Zuko is blessed by Agni the day of his birth, he has beautiful, golden, hair and he just...Glows. Ursa is happy with her child. Iroh and Lu Ten are happy with the new addition to their family.
But we need a bad guy in this. And who else but Ozai? Ala Gothel, he puts on a cloak, and a mask to cover up his face, and kidnaps Zuko and takes him away.
He planned for this. He said he had important meetings to attend to with certain people, like Zhao. Those people play alibi. So, when he returns to his distraught wife, brother and nephew, he acts distraught as well. His son was "taken" from him.
No one would ever know Zuko was hidden away, somewhere far away from the Fire Nation, locked away, because as Agni's chosen one, he needed the "protection." Zuko is special. People will want to kill him. Listen to your father, Zuko. Your father loves you, Zuko. Your father knows best, Zuko. You can't leave this place, Zuko. You don't know anything about the world, Zuko. Men are animals and women are either weak or don't care about you, Zuko. I mean, where is your mother, Zuko? She's not here, she doesn't care about you, Zuko. There was a war around them, Zuko. You can't take care of yourself, Zuko.
And we know Gothel was manipulative. We know she toyed with Rapunzel's emotions. Ozai would be the same, but we know he'd also be worse. The day he burned Zuko? He'd go off saying he's sorry. How it wasn't really his fault. Zuko was pushing him and he snapped. Zuko, how can you blame your poor father? So, of course Zuko thinks it was deserved. Of course he blames himself. He provoked his own father, the man who was "protecting" him from the dangers of the world.
Ozai would call Zuko his "Sun" much like Gothel referred to Rapunzel as her "Flower."
Zuko has a turtleduck as his only friend/pet. Not sure on names, but something ironic would be fun. Like, he doesn't know the name of his relatives, he doesn't even know he has a sister now. But he names the turtleduck Ursa, or Iroh, maybe even Lu or Lala (one of the nicknames for Azula). Ozai doesn't know about them. He doesn't know someone in his family shares a name with a turtleduck.
And who is the one who finds Zuko? Who gets knocked unconscious, is shoved into a wardrobe, gets tied up and made to take Zuko to see something he's always wanted to see? Sokka.
He's traveling with the rest of the Gaang. Will they be like Flynn/Eugene? Kinda. Toph and Sokka the prime criminals. Aang sometimes helps them, and Katara is just there to make sure they don't hurt themselves and to yell at them for being stupid and making her worry. They need a mom, so she stepped up.
What lead them to Zuko was that they learned of the Lost Prince, Prince Zuko, who was kidnapped as a baby.
In Tangled, we know the object that Flynn steals is Rapunzel's crown. I was thinking something else for Zuko. The crown would be a nice connection, but I think something else would be better. Something that connects him to either Ursa or to Iroh. If we go Ursa, they take the Blue Spirit mask. If we go Iroh, perhaps a Pai Sho tile that was turned into a necklace or a ring. We could even have both.
Sokka and Toph don't really get why these things matter. Like, it's not a crown or a nice blade. One is just wood and the other is part of a game. What's so special about them?
So, when Zuko puts on the mask, it feels oddly right, but also familiar. Before he was taken, Ursa would show him her masks. He was scared at first, but then curiosity won out and he would always reach out for the Blue Spirit mask. And Ursa was going to give it to him as soon as he was old enough to have it. When he holds the Pai Sho tile in his hand, it feels warm. Iroh, when he was around, would take care of Zuko and would often play Pai Sho while he did. Zuko would always reach for the white lotus piece. So, Iroh decided it would be his. But Zuko was only ever interested in that one tile. Never the game. So, he turned it into something he would and could wear.
Let's get back to the Gaang. Sokka hasn't reappeared. He hasn't called. He didn't come back to tell them that it was safe. So, one by one, they enter the tower (because I had to keep that element) and they just see Sokka, tied up, two blades against his neck and a boy who is glowing holding them.
The boy is looking at them wearily. He was told this place was safe. That he couldn't protect himself, but he caught a man, held him captive. But he was still yelled at. He didn't reveal his prisoner. His father had left, with the promise of bringing him some new inks and a play scroll for the celebration of the Solstice. But now he had three more people to fight. Three more people who would try to kill him. But they don't? They don't know who he is? Why he's special? Didn't they want to kill Agni's chosen one?
Cue to an awkward moment of the Gaang trying to convince a boy who was touched by the sun to let one of their members go and to join them. That they promised to not let anything happen to him. And he agrees, eventually.
And the journey plays out just like it did in Tangled. Zuko is conflicted. On the one hand, he's seeing the world. Yes, there's a war going on, but he's actually seeing it for the first time in his life. The world is so big and he's so curious about everything. His turtleduck quacks replies to his questions. It's kinda cute, kinda sad, and overall something the Gaang think should have been taken care of long ago. On the other hand, Zuko is paranoid. He's afraid. He's worried that his father would find out and be disappointed. That he really is a horrible son and human being. He can go from happy and curious about one thing to upset and stressed about the next.
And eventually, Sokka decides that maybe they should move on. He would take Mr. Sunshine back to his house. He'd get their stolen goods back. They'd depart as friends and be happy. But no, Mr. Sunshine wasn't backing down. He wanted this. He wanted to see the world and he was going to. Sokka is frustrated the most outta the Gaang. Toph enjoys Zuko's company, Aang gets along well with him and Katara has no real opinion of him. But Sokka? Yeah, he'd rather have Zuko go back so they can move on.
I want the Ugly Duckling to be the Jasmine Dragon. Iroh isn't in the day they arrive. But you know who is? Some of the Kyoshi warriors. Suki is amongst them. In this AU, she and her warriors weren't caught by Azula. When she learns that Zuko is living his dream, she reluctantly lets them go by. She brings up the war, and he knows, but he has so much to see, and if he can help people along the way, why would he turn his back?
Things start to look up, but then, Azula strikes with Mai and Ty Lee. She was told by her father of the boy with the golden hair. He was Agni's chosen one. He was more powerful than her. He would be a great addition to her court. So, she wanted to capture him. She didn't know he was her older brother (and yes, I'm aiming for this to have an Azula redemption).
Ozai stops them, knocking them all unconscious and takes a distraught Zuko away. And Zuko lets him. the Gaang abandoned him. They let the enemy take him. They let him think they cared.
He didn't know they were being held back. He didn't know that they tried to get to him. He didn't know that they were ambushed. That they had to retreat. Mai and Ty Lee are arrested earlier for attacking the Crown Princess. Azula wants to feel betrayed but can't. She's sure they didn't attack her, Ozai says she only believes that because they lied so well about being her friends. She takes his words to heart. Her friends lied to her and she let them.
Zuko eventually finds out EVERYTHING. He's the Lost Prince. Agni's chosen was the Fire Nation's Lost Prince. And he's seen what the war started by his own people a hundred years ago. He's met the avatar. He's made friends. He met people who actually care about him. He's done with his father. But Ozai wasn't letting him go. He leaves Zuko bound in the tower in order to fight the Avatar.
Who fights Azula? Mai, Ty Lee, who were broken out of prison by Iroh, and Katara. They weren't in the Boiling Rock. They don't have to fully defeat Azula, they just need to distract her enough for her to be caught. And some miracle, the trio succeed with little injury to either party.
Aang defeats Ozai and he, Sokka, Suki and Toph take Ozai to the palace where he would be taken away. But first, Sokka demands that Azula tell him where she took Zuko. She doesn't know. She never met her brother. So, when he tells her that the boy she was trying to capture was Zuko, she turns to her father in surprise.
The man who told her this boy who was their God's chosen one but never told her he was also her older brother. That he likely left out that detail to ensure she would capture him, bring him home now that Ursa was gone, so he could keep a better eye on him. It was never about making Azula a better court. It was never about giving her a powerful ally. It was just his want to ensure Agni's chosen was his and that he held him in a tight leash. He didn't care about either of them, and when she first met her older brother, she made sure he was afraid of her. That he knew she was above him. That he would know her word was final. Ozai made sure that she would. He told her that that was how she would succeed.
Ozai admits to it. How he was so sure he'd win. How they could ask, beg, torture him as much as they wanted, he would never tell them where Zuko was or if he was okay. So, he's taken away. And the Gaang begin a new search. Azula demands to go with them. She's messed up. She heard her mother grieve for her brother. Maybe, just maybe, bringing him home would make her come home someday.
They travel back to the tower and find Zuko. He's worn out from trying to get out of the chains Ozai put on him. There are burns on his wrists and hands. But the thing that surprises them the most, is the fact that his golden hair was now a deep black, but his eyes were brighter, more golden. His glow had died. Agni's chosen got hurt, he stood out and was hurt. So he was made to look relatively normal. Only those who looked for it, would see the signs that Zuko was his chosen child.
He and Azula have a strained relationship for a while, but they eventually bond and the day one is crowned Fire Lord, the other stands proudly by them.
Iroh returns from Ba Sing Se. His brother is in prison. His niece is okay. The war was over. But the day he returns, he goes to see Azula, to tell her he would help her run things until she could take care of everything herself, and he sees her with a boy. Something about him is familiar. The boy sits by her, fussing over her. The girl's mental and emotional health is a primary thing being seen to. And when Azula sees Iroh, she motions to the boy and asks if he knew Zuko.
Zuko.
Zuko.
Zuko.
Iroh looked at the boy and saw the White Lotus Pai Sho tile necklace around his neck. His hair is no longer its golden hue. His glow died down. But his eyes shouted Agni. This was his Zuko. And Iroh ran over and hugged him. His nephew was home. His nephew was safe. His family would get better.
Zuko is surprised that this old man hugged him. But, it felt nice. It felt right. But most of all, it felt familiar.
All of the Nations celebrate not only the end of the war, but the return of the Fire Nation Prince who was missing for 16, nearly 17, years. The Prince, who few knew as Agni's chosen. The Prince, who had told a few of the people he met when he traveled with the Gaang to call him Li. The Prince, Zuko, who was polite and curious and willing to learn. Zuko, who they hoped would take the throne, but who they were happy to have to ensure his sister didn't bring the war back.
One day, he and Azula would reunite with their Mother and her new family. One day they would meet their new sister, Kiyi. Kiyi, who would hear stories of her older brother, who her mother lost, of her older sister, who her mother had to leave behind.
Her older sister, who was jealous of her. Who struggled to see her mother didn't replace her. Her sister, who after a while, was so protective of her and did love her.
Her older brother, who got hurt for being who he was. Her older brother, who was taken by his own father. Her older brother, who was so kind to her, who played with her and answered her questions.
Ursa would see her children. Both raised by their father but not together. She would never forgive Ozai. For taking her son. For lying to her daughter. For hurting both.
She and Azula struggled to rebuild their relationship. But they do, eventually. The bond isn't as strong as it should have been, but it's there. And it's a start. And that's enough for her.
Zuko, on the other hand, is still in the process of learning everything Ozai told him was a lie. He thought for so long that Ursa didn't want him. That she left him. Abandoned him. So, when he encountered with the woman who was his mother, he didn't know what to think. With Iroh, well, he never knew about Iroh. He never knew he had a family besides his father, who lied and hurt him, and his mother, who supposedly abandoned him and didn't care about him. He never knew he had a sister until the day he was rescued. He never knew he had an uncle until he showed up and hugged him, saying how he was sorry he didn't look for him, that he should have looked harder, not given up. If he could forgive an old man. He never knew his cousin, who died in battle, who wanted to teach him everything he knew. And Ursa understands. She's sad about it, but she knows this is something she has to fix. She has to prove Ozai lied. That she cared about her son. That everyday he wasn't with her, she missed him. That, for as strong as he was, he still got hurt and she should have been there to help him. She sees the burns. The scars. And promises to never leave him again.
It takes time, but their family heals. And Ursa gets to do what she always wanted. She takes her family to see plays. She gives them play scrolls to read and they discuss them once a week. She and Azula talk over tea. They're civil. It's the most they can do at the moment. But both are happy with it. She and Zuko feed the turtleducks. His friend now lives among them.
If we go with he named them Ursa, she cries when she finds out. If we go the Iroh or Lu route, Iroh has tears in his eyes and he laughs with joy. If we go with La, Azula appears indifferent but she gives La a bit more food.
And we all know how it ends:
Sokka: And after years of asking and asking and asking...
Sokka: I finally said "yes."
Zuko: Sokka.
Sokka: Okay, okay, I asked him.

the avatar I azula x reader part II
what if azula will have a crush on a girl that turns out to be the avatar, what would she do? part one
a/n: this is a second part, thank you for everything, warning a very ooc azula and an evil!zuko, so if you don't like stuff like this don't read it
She won. The reign of the Ozai is over. To give him credit it was a rough fight, but despite her young age, Y/n wasn't worse, striking him without a hesitation, deadly. Y/n moves fast, the war is over, but the fight is not finished yet, she could see some devoted soldier who still keep attacking, but that's in vain. The ones deep red sky is now smoky blue and with a move that Katara taught her she rises the ocean's water to put down the fire who still burn. Y/n let a heavy sigh, she wants to pass out right here, forget about the war and what will happen after this. The girl almost let her body fall down when she remembered: Azula. The last time she saw her she was ready to fight along with Katara against Zuko, taking the flying bison. Y/n close her eyes and make her body to move again, the memories of the goodbye at the bay and her long road to earth kingdom still fresh in Y/n's mind like an open wound.
ā€œShe's in one of the village of Kyoshi Island, Y/n thought it's a good idea to hide from the fire nation under the protection of the order that one of her past lives created. She stayed here and tried to learn anything that will improve her bending, studying one by one the many Kyoshi's diaries and thanks spirits, there's a lot of them. Kyoshi was a fascinating avatar, her era was one of the most peaceful, so there's a lot that Y/n can learn from her, also she needs to learn everything about peacemaking.
In one of the days, where she was studying another old scroll she was interrupted. "Avatar Y/n, there are some intruders that we found at the beach, one of them claim to be an airbender." No one except a few Kyoshi's warriors knew that she's the Avatar, one of them was Suki, who's voice was fast and breathless, probably from running to her. "Take me to them."
Turned out it was indeed an airbender and also two people from water tribe, the girl, Katara, was even an waterbender. "Why are you here hiding?" Katara sounds hurt and her teary eyes prove it. "It's not like I have other options; I can't even learn how to bend. The only thing I'm good at is firebending." Y/n came closer to Katara and looking at her she addressed everyone. "Look guys, a year ago I wasn't even a bender and know look at me an firenation avatar, in the times when your own nation wouldn't hesitate to hunt and kill you." It was quiet while everyone perceived the story. "I can teach you airbending" Aang's voice is cheerful and you smile involuntary at him. "And I can teach you everything about waterbender, I don't know much, since, you know..." Katara fall silent, struggling to find the right words. "Since what? I don't know? What happened?" Y/n is panicked, what happened to southern water tribe? "Since they took all waterbenders from us" Sokka finished for her and this time Y/n fall silent, how can she assert herself as a good avatar, when her own nation has brought so much damage and pain? Training and traveling, that's how they spend the following months, hiding from the firenation, who mistakenly thought Aang was the Avatar. But keeping it a secret that she's the avatar was like a rock on Y/n heart, that's why when she found out the prison for earthbenders she decides to reveal herself, saving together with her friends everyone. That's it, it was the first step to bring the peace into the world, Y/n thought. Later alongside the road Y/n meet Toph Beifong, who became her earthbender master.
When Y/n and Azula finally meet, they were on different sides, Azula besides her brother, Zuko, and Y/n beside her friends. Y/n heart was beating so fast when she saw Azula, who changed so much during almost a year, but her hair was still proudly in a top knot and she's dressed in a perfect firenation clothes. Y/n couldn't help but smile, when she saw the face of the girl who hunts her both in nightmares and daydreams, but was only meet with a frown a stone cold face. Studying her, Y/n didn't notice when Zuko attacked her, fortunate she was saved by the earth that was bend as a shield by Toph. Y/n notice the quick mad glance that Azula throw at Zuko, until she attacked them as well, not actually making any harm, Y/n observe. 'Maybe she's not mad, she did say that she cares about you' Y/n though, dodging Azula's fire. It wasn't a long fight, two firebenders against three benders and the Avatar isn't the fairest battle, hopping quickly on Appa Y/n gaze one more time at the breathless Azula, engraving the princess image in her brain.
The next time they meet they were alone, standing on the same bay were almost year ago they split up, this time the weather is peaceful and sunny, with sea breeze. "How are you?" Azula's voice is calm as always, Y/n's voice on other hand is stuck in her throat and she can't speak anything. Azula takes this silent moment to look at the girl next to her, studying very careful every detail, feeling weak for the storm that is caused by Y/n in her heart. The last time they meet, Zuko was mad at her, claiming that she was too soft and that's the reason they lost. After that he didn't took her with him on hunting the Avatar anymore, finding thousands excuses, making Azula very mad. She knows Zuko do that deliberately to mess up her relationship with father, tending to win her and to became the father's favorite child. Azula don't care anymore, her father and family don't care about her, they never were, Azula's own mother hated her and father just use her. Her friends were the one who care about her, but after the story with Y/n being the Avatar she lost them as well. "Azula, I know you're loyal to your father, but he's evil, the firelord caused so much pain and destruction, but we can stop him, together. Please?" Y/n voice interrupts her endless thoughts again, like in old times. " I don't know if I can leave everything behind..." "No one here cares about you more than I do, join us, please." Azula will lie if she'll tell that she wasn't thought about leaving the firenation and join Y/n and her friend, but every time something was holding her back. But right now with the wind that cares softly her hair, she realizes, Azula don't have anything to lose anymore, everything she ever care about is gone and now she has a chance to return at least a piece of herself. "I'll join you Y/n, not avatar Y/n and not your friends, you."
That's how they found out the Ozai's plan about the Sozin Comet, that he wants to use it to destroy the Earth Kingdom. Together they come up with a plan how to defeat the firelord, training and strengthen themselves. Y/n knows that Katara and Azula have some disagreements, but she also knows that they best in their elements, that's why Y/n paired these two together. "Y/n, I don't want to fight alongside with some peasant, Iā€™ll go with you." Y/n notice Katara's angry stare and how she's ready to reply something as well offensive. "You and Katara are the best fighters from our group, you'll go and fight with Zuko and his people and you'll take over the royal palace." Y/n quickly respond trying to avoid a quarrel before the battle. "And I'll became the firelord." Ends for her Azula.
Y/n found her with Katara near the palace stairs, while the waterbender was healing the unmoved body on the ground. That scares Y/n, until she notices Azula stating on other side, having a desperate stare and Y/n is sure, this sight will be tattooed in her brain forever. Y/n runs faster at the girls, fearing to be late, kneeling beside Katara, Y/n see Zuko, with a lighting mark on his chest, which rises slowly. "Is he alright?" Y/n knew that the siblings have a difficult relationship, but she just killed Azula's father, it was enough deaths for her to endure today. "He almost died, but I stabilized him, should be fine." Receiving the answer that she needed, Y/n hurried up to Azula, who sat silently on one of the stairs step. "Did you killed him?" Y/n don't need to ask who's him, she knows. "Yes" Azula slowly nods and stand up, giving Y/n the most bone crashing hugs that she ever received. This surprised Y/n, Azula was never for affection on public, choosing to keep everything private, she's still a princess.
The following weeks was the messed part of Y/n life. It's supposed to be a happy ending, Y/n overcome the firelord, won and end the one hundred war. But still so much destruction and pain that wouldn't heal over a small amount of time. Y/n is at her old house now, deciding to pick some honorable clothes that she left behind trying to save herself. Sitting here, in her old room it's weird now, Y/n grew up, but this walls still holds a part of her old, careless life, Y/n shakes her head as if to escape unpleasant thoughts. Soon enough Azula will be crowned as the new firelord, marking the new era for the firenation and she'll need to figure out a way to improve the world.
The coronation day is today and the spirits may be with them, because they blessed the day with a sunny and warm weather. Y/n takes a quick look at the large window, that revealed a big crowd, divided by clothes colors, she notices as well only one bright yellow spot, Aang, he's the only survivor of the air nomads. Y/n suddenly feels very selfish, she was worried about herself, that's why she decided to stay here, in palace, hiding in the dark halls. Not ones a thought about her friends flied through her mind. Also, Azula asked her to sit next to her, on the outside as the symbol that their nation started the path to the world healing, but Y/n was too afraid to meet the hope that people will put on her. She feels stupid now, she's the avatar and she needs to face the consequences, Y/n hurried herself to the hallway that leads outside, meeting here a certain nervous princess. "Did you changed your mind?" Azula asks with so much hope in her voice, that even if Y/n didn't change her mind prior, she would do it now. "Yes, I figured out that the world need their avatar and I'm willing to give them one." So together they start their walk to the crowd, ready to change the world side by side.
this is very god damn cheesy end, but i didn't wanted to do a sad ending, thank you for all supporting and kind words,Ā I'm so excited to finally finish this, I work a few days, so I hope you enjoyed this!

azula blessed by the sun spirit au anyone?
- she was born weak and sickly in the middle of the night and ozai wouldn't even come see her
- ursa begged agni to save her because she saw how ozai was already treating zuko and she couldn't bear that to happen to her daughter too
- when they were kids zuko thought it was amazing agni liked her so much and was glad she had been saved because it meant his sister could still be with him
- azula grows up a prodigy and a powerful bender, believing that her impressive skills were part of her gift from agni along with her life. her blue fire, when it comes, marks her as agni's chosen. any skill she herself might have had aren't considered, everything she has is because of agni.
- ozai wielded her blessing like a weapon, driving a wedge deep between her and her brother. azula was the chosen one, given life by agni himself. zuko was the disappointment, the failure
- ozai turns her into a weapon and a figurehead, a vessel of the spirits and a sign of agni's favor towards the fire nation and their wars
- azula leans into her role as the chosen one because what other choice does she have? if she stays a good and obedient child maybe their father will spare her. she doesn't let herself think about how her brother and her mother look at her like she's a monster
- azula is trained by the best to be the best. she's the pride of the fire nation, their very own gift from their patron spirit
- alone at night azula wonders what parts of herself are truly hers and what parts of herself are agni in human form
- (as the years go by she wonders if there is anything of herself left)
- on the day of the black sun agni's power is lost, and azula has to choose whether to give her life for her country or to save herself and leave them all in ruin
- she knows what her father expects her to do. she knows what the fire nation expects her to do. she doesn't know what she herself wants to do because she has never been able to be her own person and make her own decisions. but her personal wants have never mattered. at the end of the day, this is just one more motion she has to make for the sake of her people as their chosen one. when has she ever made a choice for herself? it's not like she can start now
- zuko is there for her at the very end. he had wanted to leave, had been planning on joining the avatar for some time now. but azula is still his sister, lost as she is. he is the first and only person to ask her what would happen if she didn't make her sacrifice, if she went with him and they ran away together, far away from all this.
- "silly zuzu," she says as she takes one last look at her brother. "i dont run away from my duty. not like you."
- she doesn't tell him what it means to her that he had at least tried. she isn't sure if he understands what she doesn't say, or if they've drifted so far apart he can't read her at all.
- and so azula gives her life for the sake of the fire nation, and they manage to beat back the invaders, and she's lauded as a hero. the fire princess, the pride of the fire nation, who had been given life by agni and who had sacrificed herself so agni's people could win the day.
- zuko is the only one who cries for her, for the girl lost long ago in gifts from spirits and promises of greatness.
- later, a comet comes, and ozai declares it a gift from azula from beyond the grave, one last blessing from agni to win the war once and for all
- when aang defeats him and takes away his bending, he cries out to agni for one last gift, the comet still blazing the sky
- the comet flares as he makes his request, but there is no gift for him. the fires that had begun to blaze in the earth kingdom during his fight with the avatar go out. ozai has lost agni's favor. had he ever had it in the first place, or had he just forced agni's chosen one to serve his twisted goals, the people wonder.
- in the fire nation capital, there is no fire lord for zuko (and katara) to fight. instead, they are faced with fire sages, who claim zuko was the failed child, the one who agni passed over in favor of his sister. there is no place for him here.
- zuko chooses to fight for the throne. he's had to fight for everything he had his whole life, what's one more.
- the comet is high in the sky and it flares with power, and the sages take it as a sign agni is on their side. they quickly realize their mistake. zuko's fire is now a deep blue, the same color of a sister he had once had, a sister who had been chosen by agni and who had been forced into sacrificing her life. she manages to make one, and only one choice for herself, and that is to give zuko a blessing of her own. she chooses him as the fire lord, and the fire sages are powerless to refuse her decision.
- zuko becomes fire lord and the war is ended, and peace finally comes to the land. his fire still blazes blue, and he always keeps the memories of azula alive by using her gift of power to keep anyone else from growing up a weapon.
- (he uses the flame as a threat sometimes, when members of his council start remembering the war days a little too fondly. he never intends to follow through with these threats, of course, that's not in his nature, but he thinks azula would appreciate a few council members scared shitless once in a while. she does.)
bonus:
- azula, post-sacrifice, finds herself in the spirit world, the new fire spirit. she's lost, out of her depth for the first time in a long time, still reeling from her emotional final moments in the mortal realm. a hand reaches out, distracting her from her thoughts, and she looks to see a girl in all white, hair as pale as her dress and eyes as blue as the sea. the girl smiles as azula takes the offered hand and helps her to her feet.
- "my name is yue. we are actually quite similar, you and i..."

ON SOKKA, TOPH, LIN AND SUā€™YIN
EDITED Ā BECAUSE I WROTE THIS AT ALMOST 10:00 PM WHEN I HAD TO GET UP AT SIX IN THE MORNING BUT I JUST WNATED TO WRITE SOMETHING TO GET MY BASIC IDEAS OUT BECAUSE I WOULDNā€™T HAVE BEEN ABLE TO SLEEP IF I DIDNā€™T.Ā DID I MENTION Iā€™M NOT THE SMARTEST PERSON?
Hello my lovelies! So I finally got my act together and watched Avatar The Last Airbender andā€¦
Yeah, I donā€™t know what was wrong with me when I was a child. It just wasnā€™t my cup of tea. But at this point in my life it is quite possibly one of the best shows Iā€™ve ever watched and is now one of my favorite shows.
In fact Iā€™m re-watching after finishing my first binge about a week or two ago.
Theirs is so much to discuss not just with Avatar but with The Legend of Kora (Iā€™m in the middle of season threeā€¦ I like it a lot but Iā€™m just having a harder time getting through it. Iā€™ll probably wait to finish it until it comes to Netflix). What I want to focus on is Sokka, Toph, Lin and Suā€™yin.
Because if thereā€™s nothing I love more than family, babies, children and family drama.
I mean seriously thatā€™s literally what everything I write is about.
Tumblr media
I donā€™t have a problem not at all.....
So you can imagine as soon I heard there was a theory that Suā€™yin may or may not be Toph and Sokkaā€™s daughter my imagination and excitement went in overdrive, because even though I adore Sokka and Suki I always thought there was SOMETHING between the two of them. Itā€™s clear in Avatar that Toph has a crush on Sokka which I mean can we blame her?
Tumblr media
While it doesnā€™t appear Sokka has any romantic interest at that time, he is extremely caring and protective of Toph. Itā€™s not impossible to see their relationship maybe not deepening into love but becoming something more than simple friendship and becoming physical.
But what evidence is there that Suā€™yin is Sokka and Tophā€™s daughter? Just because itā€™s a nice idea doesnā€™t mean itā€™s true.
Well it turns out there is some substantial evidence to back it up.
First of all there is Suā€™Yins coloring.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now that doesnā€™t necessarily point to anything. But it is interesting to note that her skin coloring is the same as those in the water tribe, who tend to have darker skin tones.Ā
On top of that there is a physical resemblance between her and Sokka.Ā
Tumblr media
And then... there is this...Ā
Tumblr media
This is Baatar Jr., Suā€™Yins oldest child.Ā Sure he does look a lot like his father
Tumblr media
But I would argue he looks even more like Sokka. Itā€™s kind of eerie how similar they look and I donā€™t think the animators and show creators would do something like that unintentionally-especially in a show like this.
Then you need to factor the personality similarities-Suā€™Yinā€™s sarcasm, leadership abilities, her devotion to family above all else. It all rings very familiar.Ā
I personally lean more towards the side of this theory being true, but there are some arguments to be made against it.Ā
The biggest argument is that Sokka would never be an absentee father. Itā€™s just not in his nature. We know that both Lin and Suā€™Yinā€™s fathers were both absent and not a part of their lives.Ā
And then we have to factor in Sukki and what happened to her.Ā
Well hereā€™s what I think could have happened.Ā
Thereā€™s another theory going around that Sukki died young in some sort of battle. It would make sense to a certain extent given what she does. Iā€™m going to lean in on that theory, but it is highly possible that their relationship just didnā€™t last. After all they were young and the hard truth is statically the majority of young relationships donā€™t last. These seem to be the most probable explanations, as we know jack shit about what happened to Sukki.Ā
Linā€™s father was a man named Kanto. The jerk left for whatever reason-maybe the pair got in a huge fight, maybe he just didnā€™t want a child or couldnā€™t handle the responsibility of being a parent. Basically we can assume he was a dead beat who honestly doesnā€™t even deserve such an amazing life partner as Toph and amazing child as Lin.Ā
Ā I donā€™t doubt for a second Sokka stepped in as a father like figure of Lin and thus they would be spending quiet of bit of time together. I donā€™t think itā€™s a stretch to say Sokka would be a top notch father figure with Lin-funny, creative, and surprisingly gentle and tender. Lin being Lin would probably act like her mother-all strong, tough and independent. But secretly she loves the doting and gets very upset when he has to go.Ā
So as you can imagine Toph and Sokka are spending quite a bit of time together. Toph is enamored by Sokka and how great he is with Lin. Her old crush is beginning to bubble up and maybe turning into something more. If we go off the theory that Sukki died young or their relationship just naturally ran itā€™s course heā€™s probably been enjoying female company that isnā€™t his sister or anyone on the council.Ā Theyā€™re both grown adults who are single who have a very deep connection and have probably been lonely so itā€™s not out of the question that they uh.., well... you know.Ā
Tumblr media
Now I donā€™t think they would necessarily end up in a serious relationship for various reasons. Toph is to hell bent on her freedom and independence to truly settle down in a serious relationship, and Sokka has probably been through to much bad luck with relationships to want to truly get invested... even if it is Toph and he low key loves her and Tophā€™s heart flutters every time sheā€™s with him.
Correct me ifĀ I'm wrong but it is cannon that Toph has had her fair share of sexual partners, which I would like to state for the record there is nothing wrong with. So itā€™s possible Sokka wasnā€™t the only person she slept with. So when she became pregnant itā€™s entirely possible she wouldnā€™t know for certain who the father is. Now obviously when Sokka finds out he would probably demand to know if heā€™s the father her being blunt would say something along the lines ofĀ
ā€œIā€™m not sure who it is Snoozleā€™s, and Iā€™m never really gonna know because I won't be able to see the kid. Besides it doesnā€™t matter who the father is I donā€™t need any help.ā€Ā
So for nine months Sokka is sitting on pins and needles waiting to know the truth. When the baby finally comes and he sees her itā€™s... itā€™s pretty obvious. Though sheā€™ll never say it out loud, Toph can tell just by feeling her facial features.Ā
Now thereā€™s a problem. Even though she doesnā€™t neccasrily want to keep him away from his child Toph being... well... Toph... still insist that she doesnā€™t need any help. More over she doesnā€™t want to cause Lin any resentment, confusion or pain by Suā€™yin having her father around but herā€™s is gone.Ā
Besides thereā€™s the whole issue of him being a member of the council and her being the chief of police... I could see their relationship causing a controversy and or scandal that no one wants.Ā
Sokka on the other hand wants to obviously not just be apart of his biological childā€™s life but Linā€™s life-as Lin has basically become his child as well. And in reality Toph knows she canā€™t stop him, moreover Ā as stated earlier she is not heartless and doesnā€™t necessarily want to keep Sokka away from his daughter. So they come up with compromise.Ā
Heā€™llĀ continue acting as a father figure, but he will be nothing more than Uncle Sokka. He goes along with it so he can still see both of his girls and be a part of their lives.Ā
He spends more time at Tophā€™s home than his own. He helps Lin with her homework and happily plays and cuddles with Suā€™yin. He helps makes sure they go to bed at a decent time (while under the guise giving them all the freedom Toph wants them to have). At first Sokka will sleep on the couch, but slowly but surely the pair end up sleeping in the same bed and living as a couple... just in the safety of those four walls.Ā
Itā€™s a bit of an open secret between Team Avatar and company-especially Katara because she would know the truth from the second she laid eyes on the child. But out of respect for Toph and the delicate balance they created no one says a word-especially because I can imagine Sokka is gone a good portion of the time with his various duties.Ā
Iā€™m not one who subscribes to the fact he dies protecting the new avatar Kora, because it is cannon that he helped put members of the Red Lotus in jail. What I do think is he passed before ever getting to tell Suā€™Yin the truth. And Toph realizes she messed up and itā€™s most likely her one biggest regret. In the end I donā€™t think she would say a word to anyone about the truth until she is on her death bed... because she is just that pig headed and stubborn.Ā
So that is how I think everything could have possibly panned out... and donā€™t be shocked if I end up writing a fan fic about this! I also hope to write a post examining Aang and Katara and their children because once again I love children and family and family drama and there is a lot that too.Ā
Also might I add itā€™s so endearing and sweet that Zuko-the character who had the most toxic, abusive and fucked up family had, by all appearance, the happiest family with the least amount of drama.Ā
Tumblr media
God.
Bless.Ā
It.

Zukka + moonspirit!Sokka
So I love to write fics but Iā€™m horrible at committing and finishing them out but hereā€™s a rough outline/headcanon for prince zuko and moonspirit Sokka (this is gonna be long sorry)
To start Hakoda is chief of the Northern water tribe which obvs means that Sokka and Katara as well as Kya and Bato are all NWT (Kanna ran away from sexist Pakku and the southern tribe)
Aang is instead from the the Northern Air temple but still runs away and gets caught in a storm and freezes into an iceberg
The Northen Water Tribe gets attacked as the next expected place for the Avatar but thanks to the spirit oasis theyā€™re a little more protected and are able to mostly withstand the numerous attacks; they still lose people but are not on the brink and still maintain a few waterbenders and Kya doesnā€™t die
Maybe a fire bender gets past their defenses and she gets burned idk but since thereā€™s still water benders sheā€™s healed up and lives (let the water tribe family be happy)
Sokka basically gets Yueā€™s backstory so that he can become moonspirit blessed
The war and fire nation all tracks with the show up (Sozin starts it, Iroh loses Lu Ten, Azulon orderā€™s Zukoā€™s death and Ursa leaves, Ozai takes over) until Zukoā€™s Agni Kai
Irohā€™s basically going through the motions after Lu Tenā€™s death, his depression made worse with the loss of his father and he pretty much doesnā€™t care that his birthright has been usurped by his little bro because heā€™d give it all up, live as the poorest person on earth, as long as it meant he had his son back
BUT THEN OZAI CHALLENGES HIS THIRTEEN YEAR OLD CHILD TO A SPIRITS DAMNED AGNI KAI
Iroh starts off with giving his brother the benefit of the doubt, like he knows the guys isnā€™t the greatest father but heā€™s not gonna HURT his kid right? Wrong. So the second Ozai cups his sonā€™s face and Iroh sees the flames he snaps out of it and jumps into action
He literally jumps into the ring and pushes Ozai away, challenges him on the spot for the throne and Ozai might be the Fire Lord but Iroh is the MOTHER FUCKEN DRAGON OF THE WEST and kicks the guys ass
Ozai is thrown into the royal prison (and probably has some large burns because his brother can breathe fire??? And Iroh maybe vindictively made sure to burn the hand he hurt Zuko with so that everytime Ozai sees it heā€™ll remember why heā€™s there)
Zuko still has his scar but thanks to Irohā€™s intervention itā€™s a little lighter, his sight and hearing on that sides a little fucked, and the outline of a handprint a little easier to discern but instead of the all encompassing shame and anger and pain when Zuko looks at his scar heā€™s reminded of how much his Uncle loves him and what he did to protect him (thinks of how much his mom loves him and probably Lu Ten because you canā€™t convince me that Irohā€™s kid wasnā€™t like the best cousin ever)
Heā€™s still a little self conscious of it because come on itā€™s a giant face scar from his father and heā€™s a teenager but itā€™s not as bad as in the show
Newly crowned Fire Lord Iroh declares the war over and since the 94 year or whatever war isnā€™t that catchy and Iroh wants it to be acknowledged that it was the fire nations fault it starts to be referred to as Sozinā€™s War
So fast forward three/four years and the world is slowly moving towards peace Fire Lord Iroh is hosting a small delegation of the leaders of the different nations to really start ironing out official peace treaties which means Hakoda and Fam come down from the North Pole and everyone finally meets!
BONUS
Lu Ten was a non-bender so became super skilled at a number of diff weapons and fighting styles
Zuko is understandablely freaked out by fire bending for awhile after the whole facing his father in a fire duel thing ā€” Iroh remembers how Zuko seemed to like watching Lu Ten practice his swordsman skills so he calls on his good friend Master Piandao
Piandao takes one look at this little traumatized boy and goes ā€˜Bitch letā€™s get you some sword therapyā€™ and hands Zuko his first set of dao swords and during their training while Zukoā€™s too focused on getting his forms right he doesnā€™t realize that theyā€™re not talking about swords anymore and instead he tells him about the Agni Kai and his scar and how heā€™s scared of his own fire
Piandao is the first person Zuko ever tells about how the Agni Kai wasnā€™t the first time his father hurt him; heā€™s also the first non family person Zukoā€™s ever cried in front of and gotten a hug from
Hakoda and Bato never leave to fight but make regular weeks long trips out to keep the defenses up so thereā€™s still some worry that he wonā€™t come back; Sokkaā€™s not allowed to come along because his parents are a little over protective because of how he was born and only alive because the moonspirit blessed him but they still let him do some warrior training after Sokka convinced them about needing to know how to protect himself as son of the chief plus how kya was hurt
ā€œIf they got in once they can do it again!ā€
Sokka and Katara sneak out one day because they feel the need to make sure the Fire Navy is really retreating and they end up in some SiblingFight TM and Katara might have some people to help train her water bending but sheā€™s still a teen girl and when she gets worked up her control kind of gets iffy and she ends up cracking a giant iceberg and FINDS A WEIRD BOY
A WEIRD BOY WHO TURNS OUT TO BE THE LAST AIRBENDER AND THE AVATAR
with Fire Lord Iroh declaring the war over and everyone slowly starting to believe him thereā€™s no rush to get Aang powered up so instead the Water Tribe Sibs take him home and focus on figuring out what happened to Aang and giving him a history lesson in a more relaxed manner
They still take him to the air temple which is hard but Aang wonā€™t believe them about the war until he sees proof and well the Fire Navy is gone and there is no angsty teen hunting him
Hakoda more or less adopts the kid while Aang hangs around the north pole to train and become BFFs with Sokka and Katara
Toph gets tired of her overprotective parents and runs away after she hears them wailing about marriage prospects or something; she finds her way to Omashu where some weird old crazy guy finds her and he says heā€™s king which is kind of confusing but whatever he gives her a place to stay, doesnā€™t expect her to act like a lady or treat her like a porcelain doll, heā€™s kind of funny and is a freaking amazing earth bender (almost as good as her)
Aang comes with Hakoda as part of his fam for the Peace Summit while Toph accompanies Bumi as part of the Earth Kingdom delegation and so the Gaang comes together while the adults fix shit like they should
Zukka specific
Iroh and Zuko greet all the delegations personally so Zukoā€™s first sight of Sokka is in full Water Tribe regalia and he thinks the white haired boy is the prettiest person heā€™s ever seen in his life
Sokka has pretty much the same reaction seeing the Prince of The Fire Nation (he feels a little bad about it because itā€™s only been like three years since the war ended and a lot of people still view the Fire nation as the enemy)
Sokka canā€™t sleep one night, heā€™s a bit of a night owl because of his connection, so heā€™s wandering around about trying to find an open quiet spot so that he can talk to the moon (the spirit saved him so he likes to talk to it like itā€™s his friend) when he catches Zuko practicing his dao
Zuko has nightmares and going through his dao forms relaxes him along with spending time at his precious turtleduck pond
Sokka is full on smitten after that (thereā€™s nothing more attractive than a boy competently handling two swords)
Sokka asks Zuko to show him how to use his swords
Thereā€™s shy flirting between the two and good natured teasing from the others
Mai and Ty Lee come up with little schemes to get Zuko and Sokka alone which clash with the schemes Aang and Katara come up with
Toph choas goddess she is bounces between the two groups throwing out comments that sheā€™s knows will cause the two different schemes to clash

Note
for the WIP title game: Cassandra's Homecoming, Avatar Mob, and An Old-Fashioned Romance!
Thank you!
Cassandraā€™s Homecoming--this is a fic for the TangledĀ TV show, and... is basically all of my post-finale feelings smushed up into one document. Very feelsy. Lots of crying and hugging and unconditional love going around.
Itā€™s very rough, but have an excerpt of some dumb sibling banter anyway:
(spoilers for the ending of Tangled: the Series!)
Cassandra was just starting to wonder whether she should call him a liar when he met her eye, smirked, and added in his most insufferable tone, ā€œAnd I saw somebodyā€™s finally come around to giving frying pans a try, hm, Cassandra?ā€
ā€œOh, shut up, Fitzherbert,ā€ she snorted, trying and failing to suppress her laughter (wow, she was off her game). ā€œDonā€™t flatter yourself, I hardly picked it up because of you.ā€
ā€œOh, really?ā€ he asked, grinning back at her. ā€œSoā€¦I suppose youā€™re saying that, when I heard you quote me as you knocked out that tasteless abomination, my ears were simply deceiving me, then.ā€
Okay, yes, she had maybe referenced a line from one of his storiesā€¦but that didnā€™t mean she had to admit it, did it?
ā€œWell,ā€ she drawled, smirking in her turn, ā€œIā€™m surprised ears as big as yours could deceive you, butā€¦ā€
He reared back, with a shocked, hurt, and incredibly affronted gasp. ā€œCassandra!ā€
(end spoilers)

Avatar Mob--an AtLA/Mob Psycho 100 crossover AU! This is a collaboration-in-progress with @why-bless-your-heartā€‹, where the Avatar Spirit left Aang when he froze, went to a Water Avatar, then an Earth Avatar, and then finally Mob, whoā€™s just a Fire Nation kid trying to live his life. He and his spiritual/airbending master Reigen have various adventures as they try to figure out his powers without getting caught by the authorities, and eventually leave the Fire Nation to meet the Gaang, learn the other elements, and go through their own version of AtLA canon. Itā€™s fun.
Excerpt from the first (and currently only) chapter of my doc:
Smiling, Reigen tilted his own cup to his lipsā€”
ā€”and yanked it away immediately, spluttering, as he instinctively tried to save his burned tongue from further suffering. He moved too strongly, though, in his reflexive rush, and felt the cup fly from his hand.
His scrunched-up eyes popped open as he turned to the boy. ā€œKid, did you get burā€”?ā€
The words died, strangled, in his throat.
The boy, still cross-legged, was holding his hand out as if heā€™d just caught a ball. In, though not quite touching, his outstretched grasp, was a globule of shimmering liquid.
Even as Reigen watched, the boy picked up his empty cup, and with one fluid gesture directed the tea back into it in a quick, smooth stream. And then, as if to put the finishing touch, fire flared briefly from his other handā€™s grip around the cup.
Reigen had never even seen waterbending before, ever. And thisā€¦thisā€¦
The boy looked up, eyes innocently concerned. ā€œIt should be a good drinking temperature now, I thinkā€¦ā€ And he held out the cup.
ā€¦This poor kid actually is the Avatar.
Reigen took the tea with an appreciative smile, firmly shoving his internal gibbering down for when there wasnā€™t an impressionable child present. ā€œQuick work, kid!ā€ he said, distantly proud of how normal his voice sounded. ā€œAnd great control of your bending, that was spot-on.ā€ Heā€™s the Avatar. Do his parents know? Does anyone know?
EDIT: I know I also have a post on this AU (in its earliest form) SOMEWHERE on my blog, but Tumblr seems to have eaten it. Hnmph.

An Old-Fashioned Romance--aww, I like thinking about this one. Itā€™s an outline of a ship for two Classic Who, who have never met in canon but SHOULD HAVE--Victoria Waterfield, a Victorian girl who ended up in the Sixties, and Harry Sullivan, a Naval surgeon native to the Seventies but who ACTS like a good Edwardian gentleman, at the very latest.Ā
Theyā€™re both very sweet and traditional (and both traveled with other companions who were a little too adventurous for them, actually), and I think they would be extremely cute together. Neither of them are treated very well by Doctor Whoā€™s EU, so Iā€™ve decided that they met through mutual friends, fell in love, ended up moving to another time period for Vague Plot Reasons and are living happily ever after.
Thereā€™s not enough in actual fic form to give an excerpt, but Iā€™ve decided that at leastĀ two Doctors show up for their wedding. Also Harry calls VictoriaĀ ā€œMrs. Sullivanā€ a not-insignificant fraction of the time.

Like Father Like Son-In-Law (They're Both Dumb)
read it on the AO3 at https://ift.tt/3gFyR1y
by Quinnion
Zuko sucks in a deep breath and forces himself to meet Hakoda's gaze, fire lighting in his eyes. ā€œI wanted to ask you for your blessing. To court your child. Even though our first meeting wasnā€™t...the best, we have gotten closer and I would like to pursue them romantically.ā€ It almost sounds like heā€™s reading off a piece of paper, he obviously prepared this beforehand. ā€œConsidering our nationsā€™...history I wanted to get your permission before I did anything. I understand if you donā€™t want to-ā€
ā€œOf course you have my blessing,ā€ he cuts him off, deciding to stop him before he gets ahead of himself. ā€œYouā€™re a stand up guy and youā€™d be a good partner for...my child.ā€ Itā€™s in that moment that Hakoda realizes he doesnā€™t know which of his children Zuko is talking about. He assumed Katara but now that he thinks about it Sokka gets along better with him, they did break him out of prison together...Well, he canā€™t really ask who it is now. Heā€™ll figure it out at some point, right?
Or 5 times Hakoda isn't sure which of his children Zuko is dating and 1 time he does.

Episode 2 of Avatar The Last Airbender! I suppose thereā€™s no actual need for a read more since this isnā€™t going to be very long.
Aww poor Sokka doesnā€™t think they get to have fun while thereā€™s a war going on and the men of the village are away fighting it. His sister accused him ofĀ ā€˜playing soldierā€™ while she worked but he takes it seriously. The truth is that both of them should be free to live their own lives.
Again, a juxtaposition between the Water tribe kids and Zuko on the ship - Sokka is preparing for the fight on his own, while Zuko has attendants helping him. But Sokka lives in a village that is also a family, as he basically said earlier; Zuko is on a war ship, nothing like a family, even though it includes a relative. Different kinds of loneliness.
The ship crashing into the village is quite terrifying.
I like the detail of the snow melting and evaporating from a firebender.
ā€œYouā€™re just a childā€Ā ā€œWell youā€™re just a teenagerā€ I thought those were fake quotes asdfghjkl
Gran gives her blessing to the siblingsā€™ mission to rescue Aang. After so long, there is hope.
ā€œYou just love taking me out of my comfort zone, donā€™t you?ā€ I love him.
Well, maybe being raised by monks is not really the worse option here.
Awww Sokka being so excited that Appa can fly. Did I already say that I love him?
I suppose that random Fire Nation soldiers are gonna be the Stormtroopers of this thing. Iā€™d be pissed off all the time if I were Zuko too.
I love the fight sequences in the show. I know they studied different martial art styles and all that jazz, and itā€™s really cool. I also have a Naruto past so Iā€™m fond of these things.
So Aang has an Avatar Mode where he can use waterbending (and the other kinds I guess), while he only uses airbending when heā€™s his normal self. I suppose that just as Katara needs to work on her waterbending heā€™ll need to figure out how to use the four elements in a normal way.
I just needed to wait 3 seconds and the show explained it. He needs to master waterbending first then the other two still to go. But he needs to ride different animals first. Which, mood. Looking forward to seeing more animal designs :D
