I was exchanging comments with @roseeycreates-blog and that made me think about how much I like Tokka and I ended up drawing this scenario.
Toph comes home from work to find her boyfriend-not-boyfriend playing with her daughters and her heart melts... but discreetly

Ways Legend Of Korra could've paid tribute to Suki instead of acting like she never existed
Suki is the cop, not Toph. Suki would have formed the Republic City Police, in this case. The Republic City Kyoshi Guard. Suki enforcing the rules and law makes way more sense than Toph. Lin would be Sokka and Suki’s daughter and would have a brother named Hakoda in honor of Sokka’s father and both would be in charge of the police after Suki’s retirement. Lin always wears the Kyoshi Warrior make up to honor her mother and Hakoda inherits his father’s boomerang and cunning mind. Toph “fuck the rules” Beifong would never in a million lifetimes EVER be a cop. I find it hard to believe Toph, the rebel who hates rules would become the very institution she despised, if anything Toph would be the Founder of Pro-Bending or a nomad Earthbending/Metalbending master and a hermit. Suyin would be her daughter and The Duke or Teo would be the father.
Suki leads a new generation of Kyoshi Warriors that helps train Korra non-bending techniques to counter the Equalists Chi-Blocking techniques.
Just giving Suki a statue in Republic City. Literally anywhere.
One little mention to her existence. Bumi mentioning he was trained by uncle Sokka and aunt Suki would've been enough.
In The Red Lotus Society's attempt to steal Korra, Sokka and Suki died protecting the Avatar
I came up with 5 near perfect scenarios that could've paid tribute to Suki. All Bryke did was act like she never existed or didn't matter. Fuck you, Suki deserved better.

Doing kill counts of the ATLA universe out of boredom (not including the Yangchen or Roku novels because I have not read them yet, so no spoilers).
Sozin: Unknown, but he committed genocide on the Air Nomads, so at least thousands.
Azulon and Ozai: Unknown but are to blame for the death of thousands, maybe millions.
Jianzhu: Kelsang, Saiful, Chamberlain Hui and a few other sages, all those Yellow Necks-- he had confirmed kill count of over 5000 people.
Tagaka: Unknown amount of people, but she killed Amak and clearly killed more. So at least one known and many others unknown.
Amak: Unknown but he was a professional assassin, so-- yeah, probably a dozen or two at least.
Kelsang: The Living Typhoon! He caused the deaths of a bunch of pirates. Unknown amount of kills, though.
Hei-Ran: Unknown amount of kills, but she had the record of most kills during Agni Kais, so several people at least.
Yun: Like four randos in the Earth Kingdom, Jianzhu, Lu Beifong, Chancellor Dairin, a bunch of Fire Nation guards, Father Glowworm-- like a dozen kills at least.
Kyoshi: Killed Xu Ping An, Yun and Chin the Conqueror, so known kill count of three. Unknown, definitely more.
Lao Ge: Unknown but probably many people.
Kuruk: No known human kills, but did slay several dark spirits.
Gyatso: He was surrounded by a lot of corpses of Firebenders, so the guy definitely killed like a dozen people at least.
Aang (possessed by the Ocean Spirit): A few hundreds at least. Then again that wasn't really him because the kid was possessed, that was the Ocean Spirit*
Zhao: One known, the original Moon Spirit.
Long Feng: One, Jet. Thought it was really unclear at the time.
Yon Rha: One known, Kya.
Sokka: One, Combustion Man*
Azula: One, Aang. Sure he came back but the kid was dead.
Ursa: One, Azulon.
Zaheer: The Earth Queen, and I guess you could kinda count Aiwei? Though he didn't really die. Anyway, one or two.
Ghazan: I guess you can count himself?
Tarrlok: Two, himself and Noatak.
Unalaq: One, Raava I guess? She came back though.
Korra: Technically One, Unavaatu. Sure, her uncle was gonna die anyway, but she finished the job and felt responsible for not saving him, so she kinda saw it as killing him.
Mako: One, he killed Ming-Hua with lightning.
Suyin: One, he killed P'Li.
Kuvira: Hiroshi and two guards, so like three.
So far I can't think of any other deaths? Like there's people like Iroh who was a general and most likely killed people as well, and you can argue that the rest of the Gaang likely took some more lives (most of all Sokka, Toph and Suki while they were taking down those airships during the comet, I mean someone had to fucking die there c'mon), as well as probably believing that the rest of the Red Lotus killed as well. And more probable kills from more people. But no confirmation though lmao.

biggest crime of tlok to me is that sokka to our knowledge did not have children. which i do not believe for a SECOND. that boy would make a wonderful father and he would WANT to be one. and i know that its a theory sometimes but he cannot be suyin's father because we know both of toph's daughters had absent dads and hes not like that. therefore: the most logical conclusion is that he is firelord izumi's other father

do u have any headcanons about the gaang’s kids? like who they would be closest to in the gaang offspring? or which parent they would prefer or career?
I don't have a ton of thoughts about who the Gaang's kids would be. I'm honestly not super interested in them. But I have thought about who the Gaang would be as parents.
Zutara and Sukka would be the top tier of parents. They would be family movie quality parents. The type of parents that in certain stories would have to be killed off in order to give the protagonist an angsty backstory to overcome because having a functional, loving family isn't interesting enough...😒That's not to say they would be perfect parents, but they would try very hard, be very loving and apologize when necessary, because they respect their kids as much as they love them.
Suki and Sokka would be sports parents. They would take their kids out and teach them to hunt, boat, ski, snowboard, martial arts and generally let them get into dirt and trouble. There would be a lot of broken bones and bloody scrapes among their kids, but they would have the best stories about how they got them.
Katara and Zuko would be more protective. It would be a struggle for them not to be too protective. They would also take their kids out and teach them how to fight both with weapons and bending, but they would be very serious about safety. Zuko would spend a year on sword safety and maintenance before he let any of his kids even touch a real sword, and Katara would be on standby to heal any ouchies or booboos. At the same time, they would also do their best not to make their kids scared to take risks. It's a delicate balancing act, and they wouldn't always succeed, but their kids feel safe and loved, and that's really all Zuko and Katara want.
Toph...I have a really hard time believing she ever planned on having kids, so I go back and forth about her being childfree her entire life, or her having Lin and Suyin and being a Lorelei Gilmore type mother (only way less girly). It's a bumpy road, and she messes up...a lot, but she loves her girls and is there for them....And also she doesn't disappear into a swamp and go no contact with them.
I have a really hard time picturing Aang as anything but a terrible father. I see him with multiple baby mamas. He'd be a weekend fun dad who only sees his kids occasionally. He bails as often as he shows up, and when he does show up, he takes the kids to places he thinks they should enjoy without actually talking to them about it. Once his kids reach adulthood, it's pretty much on them to maintain the relationship or let it die. He has one or two kids who he sees frequently, but only because they reach out to him and he considers them friends.

I wish Bumi II would have been born an airbender
He would have made Aang and Kataras life a living hell as a baby, toddler, and little kid if he had the ability to manipulate air. He was already a handful as a non bender, imagine him with the ability to run around on an air scooter. Like Sokka would see Katara and Aang so tired he would offer to babysit for them, 47 minutes later he would be back drastically knocking on their door with his hair all tangled because god know what Bumi did, yelling at Aang to please take his spawn of satan back (he still loves him to bits of course, it just hard to keep up with a hyper active airbending toddler, that’s why most if not all airbenders were raised in a temple with a big group of adults who are masters at the element) I am sure there would be a point in time were Aang would be the only one able to keep up with this little child, so he would have to take him to meetings and stuff. And bumi just doesn’t shut up, which could also be a blessing because politicians who were annoying and requested the Avatar for every single minor detail would stop. Like they kind of need Aang but is it that important that they need to bare being in the same room of that annoying little child, who try’s to jump out of his fathers lap the first chance he gets, and who is very clearly sending gusts of wind their way to mess up their hair. The answer is no. I also believe that Bumi and Tenzin would kind of turn into a more soft and loving version of Lin and Suyin, like they would be a bit competitive as adults, but am sure they had a blast as little kids playing air ball, and running around in air scooters. Bumi would have 100% percent also been a teacher for Tenzin, especially when their father was out there being the Avatar.

I AM IN MISERY
Whenever I think about a new Avatar after Korra, it makes me sad, If Korra was gone... and so is Lin 😭😭😭 And since we are on this topic, It's a hard pill to swallow, but I think Lin would probably be the first one to go among the Gaang kids.
I'll base this on their line of work, lifestyle, environment, and traumas (since trauma can affect physical health too).
Let's start with who I think would be the last to go.
Suyin Beifong
She's the youngest among them. Traveling the world gave her happiness and an opportunity to work on her traumas (like her conflicts with her mom and sister). As the Matriarch of Zaofu, she's surrounded and cared for by the best healers and physicians. We also see how active she is with dancing and other hobbies, which makes her the healthiest.
Firelord Izumi
Before you comment "Izumi is the oldest," I know, but hear me out: We saw just a bit of her in LOK, but have you seen how fit she is for her age? As a monarch, she's been cared for by servants and healers/physicians since birth. I bet she hasn't eaten a rotten meal in her life. While she can fight, as long as Zuko is alive, he'll protect Izumi at all costs. Not just him, but the whole army of the Fire Nation will as well. So yeah, LONG LIVE THE FIRELORD! We don't know much about her, so I don't have an entry with trauma...
Tenzin/Kya
These two are tied. Let's start with Kya. She's one of the greatest healers, and if she's ever injured, she has Katara to heal her. The only trauma of hers that I know of (same with Bumi) is that Aang favored Tenzin and neglected them. Knowing her personality, she doesn't seem to mind it a lot. For her, she still has her mom, Uncle Sokka, and Bumi. As for her lifestyle, she can be a bit reckless at times, but her nature as a healer always prevails.
With Tenzin, he eats a healthy diet (Air Nomad diet). Like Kya and Bumi, Katara has him covered. He doesn't have many injuries because he doesn't fight often unless it's necessary. The main trauma he faced was his father's death and the pressure of being "the last Airbender." He worked through that by getting married and having kids. Additionally, as the leader of the Air Nation, his health is cared for by the air acolytes.
Bumi
To be honest, I almost made him tied with Lin because of their line of work and their recklessness at times. He got fighting injuries like Lin and often faced near-death experiences. They just differ in terms of trauma. Bumi handled his trauma very well; we can see how bubbly his personality is. Like Kya, despite Aang being absent, he had his mom, uncle, and sister. "You always know when I need a hug," Bumi once said to Kya, implying that they had each other's back. Oh, and he's also retired now and got bending, so yeah, his lifespan got extended.
LASTLY *sighs*
Lin Beifong
It's incredibly tough to admit, but her job is one of the toughest, and she didn't even like it. She took it to seek approval from her mom, who wasn't even happy about it. She endured numerous injuries from fighting triads, being electrocuted by chi blockers while wearing metal armor, and facing near-death experiences. Her traumas include conflicts with her mom and sister, her breakup with Tenzin, and having her bending taken away. She also has the worst way of handling these issues—bottling everything up until it's overwhelming. Her lifestyle and environment haven't been favorable either; due to work demands, she likely doesn't eat proper meals, often relying on instant noodles or beef jerky, and I bet she even skips meals. Perhaps the saddest part is that for a long time, she didn't have anyone to take care of her. Lin definitely got the short end of the stick. 😭😭😭

While Sokka was alive, Lin was presumed to be the best daughter imaginable.
🌼
Lin probably forgot that she had gone with her mother and sister and ended up returning with Sokka to the Temple Island after the party 🤭
And the extra context would be that Toph is so immersed in her conversation and her sore arm from holding her baby that she forgets to pay attention to her other daughter for a long, long time.

broke: “suyin is sokka and toph’s daughter.”
gross. they are siblings. that’s like saying kya is katara and sokka’s daughter.
what even is the reasoning behind this claim? suyin has darker skin, therefore her dad MUST be sokka? they don’t even look alike, nor do they share any traits. suyin was made from clay, she doesn’t HAVE a father. and sokka would never be an absent father, dude’s been a father figure since he was twelve & he would never stand for toph sending su to live with her parents. also, how on earth would sokka’s genes create something so dreadful as suyin?
woke: “baatar jr. is sokka’s grandson.”
they’re identical & have similar energy. logical geniuses with a thing for more than slightly fruity women who put duty above all else. also overshadowed by their dads & younger siblings.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
bespoke: “baatar is sokka and suki’s son.”
i’ve seen sokka and baatar junior’s resemblance used as an argument for why sokka is suyin’s father, and i think that’s just a very… weak point to make. he’s baatar jr. and takes after his father, bataar, in almost every way.
& that includes his looks.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
if anybody is going to be sokka’s kid, it’s baatar.
anyways, that’s my stance on the subject :-)
i don’t really think that sokka and suki would have had kids, they’re the most responsible & logical members of the gaang and i reckon they would’ve gone ‘hm. let’s focus on actually fixing the world before we even think about bringing a child into this.’ also, they’re definitely the Cool Aunt & Uncle. they get to have great fun with their nieces and nephews, and can spoil them rotten & teach them all their non-bending fighting techniques that the rest of the gaang can’t, but at the end of the day, they can give them back to their parents.

The Bachelorette: Toph Beifong Edition - Who is the Dad?
(Adapted from a Twitter thread of mine)
Since I’ve been asked several times if I know the answer to this question, let’s just compile a post.
Who is the father of Toph’s children? A comprehensive guide of the five most cited candidates.
It’s stated in canon that Lin and Suyin have different fathers. Right away this complicates matters as we can’t use the evidence for one sister and apply it to the other.
So let’s break them down separately, starting with the youngest.
Suyin Beifong
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bachelor #1: Sokka
Tumblr media
We all know who he is. The man, the myth, the legend himself. FOR: Probably the most popular as he’s a fan favorite and canon tells us he never married or had children (not officially).
Toph had a crush on him in childhood, and Sokka considered her his best friend, so it’s not impossible these two developed romantic feelings down the line, especially if Sokka’s long-time squeeze Suki was out of the picture. Suki doesn’t seem to be around for unknown reasons in LOK.
Suyin has a noticeably swarthy complexion compared to her mother or sister, which many credit to Sokka.
Her more light-hearted and free-spirited personality compared to Lin is also cited as potentially coming from Sokka.
AGAINST: Sokka is absent from Lin and Suyin lives in flashbacks. Even though we see he still works with Toph well into adulthood and there doesn’t seem to be any bad blood between them.
After losing his own mother and his father being absent due to the war for most of his childhood, it seems unlikely that Sokka wouldn’t be present in his child’s life.
Some fans argue that perhaps Sokka didn’t know Suyin was his daughter, but considering that Sokka and Toph stayed close friends and worked together into adulthood, it’s hard to believe that brilliant detective Sokka wouldn’t have put it together. Unless Toph went out of her way to deceive Sokka, but given their positive relationship it seems out of character for Toph to deprive Sokka of his own child and vice verse.
CONCLUSION: Unlikely.
Unless more information comes out to explain what reasons there could’ve been to keep Sokka away from the girls, this theory falls apart. There just isn’t enough evidence to support both him and Toph acting so bizarrely unlike themselves
Bachelor #2: Satoru
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Satoru was an engineer and industrialist who worked for the Earthen Fire Refinery. Lao Beifong (Toph’s dad) left him in charge after Satoru’s corrupt Uncle had a change of heart and resigned.
Satoru is kind and naive to a fault. He has an “adorkable” quality about him and is a HUGE Toph fan.
FOR: Toph became co-executive-partners for Earthen Fire Refinery with Satoru, and although we never saw them progress to a relationship, there was clear mutual attraction.
Satoru admired Toph greatly and advocated for her against his bosses; his Uncle and Toph’s father.
He has wavy hair that resembles Suyin’s.
Works with metal. Zaofu is made of metal. That’s about it.
AGAINST: There isn’t a whole lot to go off of. Satoru isn’t even mentioned by Toph when he isn’t around, and despite her strong interest in him in The Rift story, in Imbalance Toph seems more interested in Sokka, indicating she may have moved back to her initial crush.
Satoru’s naïveté and capitalist employment practices inadvertently served as a catalyst for the bender supremacy movement in the colonies. Womp womp.
Neither he nor Toph has Suyin’s tanned complexion. So where did it come from?
CONCLUSION: Possible
Satoru’s presence is so vague that it’s hard to make a case for him other than a case from exclusion. There aren’t any huge issues disqualifying him, but neither is there much to support him over other candidates.
Bachelor #3: Sun
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sun was a street urchin and prodigy lava bender competing in underground fighting tournaments until Toph plucked him from obscurity and made him her student.
FOR: The resemblance. He’s swarthy, he has a similar smirk and distaste for authority, and is a young prodigy bender.
His distaste for authority and rebellious spirit make him a suitable match for Toph, especially if she was trying to reconnect with her old self by then.
He was a wild spirit and not fan of Aang and the group due to perceiving them as being subservient to the Earth King. This makes a case for why Toph may not have told anyone he was the father, and is more justified than hiding it from Sokka if he were the dad.
He spent time with
Toph as her student, presumably.
AGAINST: Toph was police chief by then (I know, I hate it). If Sun remained a hooligan, they may not have still been compatible.
Sun is never mentioned outside of the one comic he appears in. Despite her initial fascination with him, Toph seems to have forgotten him.
There is no indication from what we saw that Toph’s fascination with him was in any way romantic, but rather she was intrigued by his bending abilities.
CONCLUSION: Possible
I personally find him the most likely candidate simple due to Suyin’s looks and personality. Sun and Toph not working out due to her job as a cop and him being an anti-authority hooligan could well explain why Toph doesn’t talk about Suyin’s father. Their relationship could’ve ended disastrously.
Sun may have also been a catalyst for Toph reflecting on what she had become and deciding to abandon her job as chief of police, deciding to instead go be a swamp with in retirement.
But this is all speculation.
Bachelor #4: Someone else!
Tumblr media
A character we haven’t met and who hasn’t been named.
FOR: We have no information so it could be anyone.
AGAINST: Why name-drop Lin’s dad and not Suyin’s unless there’s reason to hide it?
CONCLUSION: Possible. But why?
The most boring possibility.
Bachelor #5: Kanto
Tumblr media
FOR: He’s the only canon relationship for Toph we’ve had confirmed.
AGAINST: It’s been stated clearly that Lin had a different father from Suyin, and there isn’t a good reason to suspect Toph is lying.
CONCLUSION: Unlikely.
That’s about it for Suyin. So let’s get into her older sister.
Lin Beifong
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The GOAT and the most unfairly disrespected character in LOK.
Bachelor #1: Sokka Again
Tumblr media
He really was a rizz-bender in the end… FOR: Same reasons. Fan favorite. Him and Toph are BFFs for life.
Older Lin has a hairline very similar to Katara’s. Could that be a sign of Sokka’s genes?
AGAINST: Same reasons. Why would Sokka not be involved in her life? Why would Toph lie about him?
Even worse, Lin was in a serious relationship with Tenzin for years. They were even engaged at one point. Seeing as Tenzin is Sokka’s nephew, if he were Lin’s father it would’ve made Lin and Tenzin first cousins. I doubt Toph would’ve hidden her child’s parentage to the point she would allow incest.
CONCLUSION: Impossible.
For all of our sanity, let’s not make kissing-cousins a thing in Avatar.
As Sokka would say, “MAJOR OOGIE!”
Bachelor #2: Satoru
Tumblr media Tumblr media
FOR: Same reasons as Suyin
The hair resemblance is still there, but there’s no longer the issue of skin tone. Satoru is a similar complexion.
AGAINST: Why would Toph lie about Lin’s father being named Kanto? Unless there was a falling out we’ve never heard about.
Toph just didn’t seem to be that into Satoru after their initial appearance, and she never brings him up outside of dealing with the company.
CONCLUSION: Possible
Probably the most likely candidate at this time, though the Kanto question is still an odd curveball.
Bachelor #3: Sun
Tumblr media Tumblr media
FOR: Same reasons as Suyin.
Sun and Lin’s hair have some similarity.
AGAINST: Same reasons as Suyin x10.
Toph would‘ve been at the height of her role as police chief. Not exactly a great time to be having affairs with hooligans who oppose authority. (Unless maybe Bryke wants to decanonize Toph becoming a cop? Pretty please? Hey, I can dream!)
CONCLUSION: Unlikely
Although Sun has more reason for Toph to lie about Lin’s parentage and throw out the made-up name “Kanto”, there just isn’t enough to support the idea, especially given how strict and serious Lin’s personality can be compared to her sister.
Bachelor #4: Kanto
Tumblr media
FOR: Toph said Lin’s dad was a nice guy named Kanto but that it didn’t work out between them. We’ve been given no concrete reason to believe Toph was being deceptive.
That’s about it.
AGAINST: Who?
Seriously, not even a flashback or a picture? No one else ever mentions him? Sus. Even Asami’s mom got a character design.
CONCLUSION: Possible
It could just be some rando named Kanto no one stayed in contact with.
Anti-climactic but sometimes life be like that.
Bachelor #5: Zuko
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yeah. That Zuko. Fire Lord Zuko. Son of Ursa and Ozai. Great grandson of Roku. The Blue Spirit. Aka the fandom bicycle.
Buckle up. This one is a doozy.
FOR: Politically it’s a smart match. Zuko has to make amends with the Earth Kingdom. Political marriages were a common tool to broker peace between nations. Toph is EK nobility from the fine house of Beifong and would be an ideal candidate.
Toph has the capacity to be a refined Lady and hold court, she just chooses not to.
Toph has a built-in perfect response anytime Zuko starts to spiral about his scar. “Looks fine to me!” She’s the only person who has never seen it and doesn’t associate him with a scar upon mention.
Toph seems to have a small crush by the end of Book 3, insisting on going on a field trip with him and glomping onto him. In the comics, she roots for Zuko over Sokka in a sword match, indicating she may have transferred her crush from Sokka to Zuko.
Iroh would be all for it. He loves Toph. He even calls them a perfect match for each other in Legacy of the Fire Nation.
Mai dumped Zuko in The Promise and as of yet they haven’t gotten back together.
Toph and Zuko are depicted standing under twin doves together during their field trip. One of the doves even has a black spot where Zuko’s scar is, making it clear these doves represent him and Toph. Doves are a sign of eternal love. And just as Zuko walks away from Toph in this scene, the doves kiss. Perhaps a sign of their future?
Zuko and Toph both left abusive homes due to the Avatar. Zuko was banished and sent to chase Aang, while Toph ran away from her stifling home to teach Aang. Parallels.
Both act tough as nails but have a sensitive heart that can’t handle rejection.
Izumi and Lin look quite similar. Izumi has glasses (vision problems, like Toph) and Lin has a prominent facial scar (like Zuko). Were these intentional choices to tie them to their respective parents?
Zuko and Lin have facial similarities, and Izumi shares some with Toph’s mom Poppy.
AGAINST: While it’s easy to make a case for Toph crushing on Zuko, there is no evidence that Zuko has ever returned such feelings. He never even says her name for the entire show.
Toph claims he still owes her a life-changing field trip in old age, implying they didn’t get one.
That would’ve made Toph Fire Lady, even temporarily, and it seems like SOMEONE would’ve mentioned that! Kind of a big detail to leave out!
Zuko shows no interest in Lin. Then again he doesn’t show interest in Izumi either, so who knows?
All evidence is circumstantial at best.
CONCLUSION: Crack but compelling
I love everything about this theory but personal biases aside it’s just pure crack.
Still, I’ll leave you with this: It gives a good reason for Toph to lie about Lin’s parentage. And Kanto can be written as “冠都” which means “crown capital”.
You’ve heard the evidence! So you decide!

The New Gen
Tumblr media
pairing: Korra x OFC
synopsis: As Korra breaks from the overbearing walls of the White Lotus, she begins to explore what being the Avatar really entails. Unintentionally thrusting herself in the city's rising turmoil, she tries to balance her job and being a teenager. Thankfully, she has friends to keep her head straight.

As the Gaang grew older, they established careers and families. Of course, they believed that their children would also be friends – more like a dream in Katara’s case – but they weren’t quite prepared for the length to which the children were willing to go. While Zuko’s daughter, Izumi, liked her infamous friends, she preferred to stay within the castle by her parents’ side. For Toph, Katara, Sokka, Ikkara, and Aang, well, they would’ve begged for their children to be the same.
Toph’s eldest, Lin, had been dating Katara and Aang’s youngest, Tenzin, for two years. In the beginning, it was puppy love. Tenzin chased after her and she’d pretend that the young Airbender had no effect on her. It was adorable, while it lasted. Things changed, for the worse. They were becoming older, discovering themselves and how they saw their future, and a tension began to rise between them.
Working under her mother, Lin soared through the ranks, burying herself in her work while Tenzin was beginning to set himself out as a political figure. With prominent careers, the topic of marriage and children arises. Despite Lin’s caring and protective nature, her family-based trauma tended to hold her back. She was scared, to say the least. If she was to marry Tenzin, only Spirits knew how bad everything would be.
What ifs ran through her mind, day in and day out. What if Aang and Katara no longer approve of me after we’re engaged? What if I can’t give him children? Much less, Airbenders? Him and Aang would be so disappointed, I don’t want to get their hopes up. What if I’m not the perfect wife? The perfect mother?
It was just a sea of unanswered questions and unfortunately, Tenzin was an airbender – not a mind reader. He didn’t understand Lin’s way of thinking, he couldn’t predict that her upbringing would scare her away from building her own family. He couldn’t even answer all her questions. So, in turn, he began to create distance. Much like his estranged girlfriend, he too began to search for content within his work.
As they continued to avoid the weight on their relationship, Tenzin’s attention was caught by an acolyte of the temple. Continuously working around one another, taking daily walks around the island as they fed the Lemurs, the two became attached. Wherever he went, she was there by his side and if he was to leave for the city, she’d stay on his mind.
Enraptured with the woman, he never noticed how hard things were to become. Pema had taken the initiative and confessed her feelings and without a thought, Tenzin had openly reciprocated the confession. Rushed to end the relationship with Lin, no matter how many times he said that he did… there was no real way to ease the hurt that struck the Beifong’s heart.
Spirits, the look on her face when he told her. She hoped that they could fix things, especially now that Suyin was sent away by their mother, she no longer had to work overtime to make sure the younger woman stayed out of trouble. But no. Just like her mother, her father, and her sister, Tenzin left her. He found someone else, someone better. Someone new. Tenzin left her!
In a blind rage, she tore through Air Temple Island with a strength not even her mother was aware of. She stomped and punched, splitting the island into two. From both sides of the island, Tenzin’s parents along with Sokka, Ikkara, and his cousin Ezra watched as their home became victim of the Beifong wrath. Nearly collapsing from a heart attack, she trudged back to the city without a word.
Promising herself to never step foot in that island’s direction ever again, life seemed to have different plans for her. As Tenzin and Pema were engaged, Ezra picked up the pieces from his best friend’s heart. As he sowed her tarnished heart back together, they conquered Republic City. After Toph stepped down, Lin was inaugurated as Chief of Police and Ezra was voted in as Head Councilman and Commander of the Republic City Task Force.
Their faces painted the front pages of the newsletters, busting one crime mob to the next. Eventually, their bond became stronger. It just hit them. Ezra returned home one day and frowned with distaste at the reality he lived in, constantly coming home alone. He no longer liked the silence that surrounded him, outside of his loudmouth father, of course. And Lin felt her gut churning with discomfort as she once again stayed late in the office.
Unlike her officers, she didn’t have a homecooked meal waiting for her or just overall a family waiting the wrap their arms around her, cheering that she returned home to them. Her eyes watered, a sense of finality coming over her as she analyzed the life she lived. Such a lonely life. Until one day, she no longer felt empty. The tall, muscular tribal man marched into her office and with a swift grip, he raised her to his eye level and indulged her with a kiss of passion.
Poor woman could barely step foot in the office that following week. As the two married, Lin discovered her pregnancy amid a crime bust, chasing down the Agni Kai Triad. Her heart nearly stopped as that dark creature returned with its endless pit of ‘what ifs’. Although, this go around was short lived for her husband was a man who understood her from the inside out and from her head to her toes.
And the family was rather excited for them. All except for Tenzin, of course. He couldn’t but to feel that the man he felt was the big brother he should’ve had betrayed him. In his eyes, Lin was a fixture of his past and deserved to stay there. Ezra could’ve fallen for anyone else, married anyone else. He just couldn't find the logic behind it. This elicited a loop of petty arguments and glares from the younger man.
Nothing too catastrophic until Tenzin took Ezra’s admiration for Lin and their relationship as boast to wave in his little cousin’s face. A fight developed, water against air until Aang put his foot and ordered peace. You know, the everyday job of the Avatar.
“I don’t know what has gotten into you two, but the tension in this house is ridiculous,” the aged Avatar grits. Ezra scoffs, “if anything is ridiculous, it’s Tenzin and his attitude toward Lin and I.” He turns his glare at the younger man, “we’ve done nothing to you!”
Tenzin’s eyes widen, wild and untamed, “nothing to me?! You married my ex-girlfriend and she’s now carrying your child. You betrayed me.”
“You want to talk about betrayal?” Ezra’s teeth grind, “then let’s get into how you cheated on Lin and didn’t decide to break things until after you and Pema started dating. Don’t act shocked that fate has decided to give her a second chance at love while you got stuck with a servant for a fiancé.”
Aang sighs, pinching the bridge of his nose, “okay, that’s enough. Both of you!”
Since then, the boys who once considered each other brothers turned into strangers. Ezra became a father to a beautiful little girl who they named Takari as he continued to lead Republic City with Lin while Tenzin and Pema had yet to reach past the engagement stage.
As Aang and Ikkara’s health began to decline, their last moments were spent surrounded by their friends and family. Aang’s dreams of rebuilding the Air Nation started with Tenzin and ended with his two-year-old grandniece, unsure of what his son and Pema were destined for. After his passing, Raava found her way in a waterbender while Takari began to practice her airbending.
Lin found it amusing that her only child was an airbender. As she told Ezra, it was as if the spirits gifted her baby a loophole just to show the woman that she was never the problem. If things were different, if Tenzin was different, she could’ve given him airbending children. But he wasn’t hers to hold and she wasn’t his to love.
Until a strange incident had occured...
The young girl was playing outside with a couple of classmates when a street rat, Fez, intruded on the fun.
The orphan was known to run small errands and even do the dirty work for the triads in exchange for money. When he wasn't occupied with that, he'd find enjoyment in torturing the infamous Beifong child and her friends.
Once again, he was hustling the group for the small amounts of money they had. A girl, Lianna, didn't have any to share so instead he ordered for her late grandmother's betrothal necklace.
She refused, again and again, causing the young firebender to kick an arc of flames her way. Desperately, she dived into the middle of the street, watching as cars weaved around and honked at her. Fez continued chasing her in the road, unbothered, throwing non-stop punches fueled with flames.
Every once in a while, Lianna would block the balls of fire with small whips of water until he trips her feet with a rope of fire, he watches in amusement as she falls in front of an oncoming car. Enraged, Takari ran forward, hands reaching out for the girl, expecting air to leave from her palms.
Instead, the bit of earth Lianna was stuck to turned into a pillar, launching the young girl in the air. Watching her screaming form soar across the intersection, Takari created a vortex of air to catch her body and slow down her fall.
Confused and horrified, Fez watched the girl bend two elements to her will before running down the nearest alleyway. Quickly, she gallops in his direction, feet planting firm to the ground as her clenched fists hover just above the road. Feeling the pull of the earth underneath her, she pulls chunks of it over the orphan's feet.
As her arms continue to raise, the wall of rock rises with her motions, surrounding the boy's body. He jostles himself around, fighting for his body to find release to no avail. Her friends cheer happily as the police arrive, Lin steps from the vehicle with worry at the thought of her daughter in danger until her eyes fall upon the young boy.
"And what happened here?" She asks the children. Fez quickly answers, "that... that freak doesn't know what element she wants to bend. First, she's bending the road and the next she's airbending. Get me away from her!"
