Teenage linzin (16-17) planning a baby + gang reaction pls
Teen Linzin is very popular these days in my asks haha
"Lin...do you want to have kids one day?"
"Me? I used to...but I don't know now..."
"What do you mean?"
"Ugh, well Su isn't turning out so great, is she?"
"But you're not her mother."
"I know that!"
Tenzin shifts, his head in Lin's lap and he peers up at her. Lin continues to stroke his head. The tiny pricks of hair attempting to grow on his head scratch her fingers lightly, but Lin enjoys it.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" she asks.
"Like what?"
"Like you're planning your entire future," Lin replies teasingly.
Tenzin reaches for her free hand, playing with her fingers and kissing her fingertips gently. Finally, he interlaces them together. "I want us to have kids together."
Poke!
"Hey!"
"We're not even 18 yet," Lin points out, but she still chuckles. "And are you sure you want to settle on me? You don't want to date 100 girls first before you figure it all out."
"Euuughhh. I don't want 100 women. I want you and only you."
"Ha ha ha. Are you trying to get laid right now?"
"No. But if you want to, I definitely won't say no to that."
"So why are you bringing this up?"
"Because! I already know I only want you. Second, I'm not settling because I'm choosing you."
"Hmmm. Are you sure?" Lin avoids his eyes, studying his pulse.
"Positive." Tenzin raises himself off of Lin's lap and presses a kiss to her lips. "Our kids will be so beautiful because of you."
"Kids?" Lin laughed. "Plural now?"
"Of course! I'll be happy no matter how many kids we have, but I already know we'll have more than one!"
Lin pursed her lips. "You're getting ahead of yourself."
"We'll definitely have a girl, and she'll look exactly like you. Actually, even if we have a son too, he'll look like you."
"Oh come on. You're not that ugly, Tenz."
"Hey! I'm not saying I"m ugly!"
"Well you implied it."
"Whatever."
Lin and Tenzin have no idea that Sokka is passing by, and stops out of curiosity to hear their conversation. He knows they've been dating for a while now, less than a year for sure, and he wonders what they talk about.
"I personally don't really care about looks. I want the baby to be healthy mostly," Lin answers.
Sokka covers his mouth. He stays silent and continues to collect as much information as possible.
"I don't care if it's a boy or a girl. But I think I prefer a boy. Girls can be too much."
"Are you kidding me? Have you seen my brother? What if the baby is like him?"
"Don't jinx it! Look at our sisters!"
"Whatever. Either way, I have no doubt the babies will be healthy. You take care of yourself well enough. But you need more improvement. And I definitely take care of myself. There's nothing to worry about. I'll take care of you."
Sokka sneaks off as quickly as possible furhter into the main house.
Aang is talking with Katara in the kitchen, and Sokka immediately yanks him away from the conversation and runs off with him.
"Whoa, Sokka, are you--"
"Sokkaaa!"
"Yeah, yeah, be right back! You're not important!"
Sokka locks Aang in the office with him. His face is pink, panting hard. Aang scans him and touches his forehead.
"Sokka, are you okay? What's going--"
"How good is your seismic sense?" Sokka cuts him off.
"...What?"
"I said how good is your seismic sense?"
"Uh...pretty good?"
"As good as Toph's?"
A pause.
"Probably nooot, but still good enough. Why? What's going on? You look like you saw a ghost."
"I don't know the details, but...I think Tenzin knocked up Lin."
The room almost exploded.
"WHAT?! How do you know?!"
"I was minding my business, right? THen I heard them talking about their baby. Something like Lin doesn't care if it's a girl or boy, as long as it's healthy. Tenzin was like "oh yeah, for sure it's gonna be healthy."
Aang's jaw drops. Then he shakes his head. "no, Tenzin wouldn't...He's a good boy, and-and even if they were having relations, he and Lin would be careful...right?"
"Yeah, you know those things aren't 100% guarantee right? Either way, we need to find out first before Toph does," Sokka insists. "So, you're gonna use your seismic sense to figure out if she is pregnant before Toph destroys the airbender bloodline for good."
Aang sits down in the chair, head spinning. "B-but they're only 16 and 17..."
Slap!
"Aang! Snap out of it! We need to confirm first! Let's just keep it between us and not tell Katara--"
"Not tell me what?"
Both men shriek.
Katara's staring and glaring at the two, arms crossed. "Keeping secrets from me?"
Aang stood up. "No, I would never keep anything from you! Sokka is having this predicament and it's more like trying to figure out something."
"Figure out what?"
Sokka puts a hand on her shoulder. "Don't worry about it. You don't need any stress."
Katara narrows her eyes at him, then adjusts her target at Aang. "Okay, then. Sweetie, you know you can tell me anything. Is it nothing serious?"
Aang almost shakes in his spot, lips trembling.
An eyebrow raises.
"Tenzin and Lin might be having a baby!" Aang promptly covers his mouth at the secret taht he willingly gave up.
"My baby? No, no, no. He wouldn't. Tenzin is a good boy. And Lin is responsible. Are you sure you're not talking about Bumi? Or kya?"
"Yes because I overheard them talking about their baby."
Katara raised her voice. "So they are?!"
"I don't know! It just sounded like it!" Sokka exclaimed, trying to keep her temper and emotions to a minimum. "I'm raising concern because we should confirm with them before Toph does."
Katara inhales deeply, a vein pulsing in her temple. "I'll ask Lin if she wants to do a check-up."
"We'll interrogate Tenzin," Aang suggests.
Sokka nods. "Good idea!"
"No. Dont' scare him. What is that going to do anyway? I'll find out for myself if she's pregnant."
Thankfully, Toph is always busy lately. So not much of a chance of her going to the island. But before Lin goes home, Katara asks if she can help her pack up some things to take home for her and Suyin.
"I'll help, Mom! I don't want Lin to overexert herself."
Katara wishes she had seismic sense in that moment, but tells Tenzin to help Aang and Sokka with Appa. She figures girl to girl will be easier for Lin to talk to her.
She simply has Lin help pack some food for dinner and lunch. Suyin loves Katara's cooking, so Katara puts extra meat and buns for the younger earthbender.
"You know, Lin...I know that you and Tenzin are young and very much have deep feelings for each other..."
Lin awkwardly nods, unsure where this is going.
"And usually that also shows itself physically too. I don't know if you and Tenzin have been intimate with each other yet, but--"
"Oh, Aunt Katara, my mom gave me the sex talk. So I know what happens to my body and what that leads to," Lin tries to cut in politely.
"That's good. I'm glad your mother spoke with you about it. And I just want you to know that as a healer, you can also come to me for womanly and maternal concerns."
"Oh..." Lin tilts her head, blinking. "Thank you, Aunt Katara," she says a little awkwardly. "Of course I would go to you. There's no other healer I would trust more than you."
"Aww, I'm happy to hear that, sweetie. So the reason I bring this up is because---"
The door slams open.
"Mom! Lin is NOT pregnant!!"
Lin peers between Tenzin and Katara, confusion glossing her eyes. "What are you talking about?"
Tenzin sighs and walks over to them. "They thought we were having a baby."
"What?!" Lin gapes at Katara. "Why would you think that?"
"Because Uncle Sokka heard you guys talking about your baby, and it sounded like you were going to be parents. So we wanted to talk to you about it, just to make sure. But I didn't want to ambush you like your mother does."
Tenzin lowers his head, groaning softly. "Mooooom..."
"We were talking about our future kids."
Tenzin perks his head up.
Lin finishes drying the plate in her hands. "We were just talking out loud about what they might look like, how many would we be okay with, you know, things like that. It was mostly just theoretical."
Katara sighs in relief. "That's good to hear. I knew you both are responsible, but I still worried that you might not have been careful. I'm not ready to be a grandmother yet. I'm still so young and I want you two to have your own lives first."
"That's how we feel too, Aunt. Neither of us are ready for kids. Plus, we haven't even graduated high school yet. We'd like to at least graduate first, before starting a family."
"I shouldn't have doubted for a moment. But I don't doubt that you two are making very smart decisions and being mature and responsible."
-----------
Toph finds out about the misunderstanding from Sokka the next day. She teases Lin about how she's too young to be a grandmother and that the baby needs to be a girl first AND an earthbender. Her Beifong granddaughter needs to carry on the legacy and not Twinkletoes'. Toph says the other grandkids can do Twinkletoes, but the firstborn shall be her prodigy lol
Lin is so annoyed that she goes back to the island to escape by being with Tenzin.
"Always use protection even if you're pregnant."
"Mom! I'm not pregnant, stop joking!"
"Lighten up, Lin. Let Tenzin loosen you up a bit."
"MOOOOOM!"

Linzin meeting their first child😆🍼?
NOW THIS IS WHAT I MEAN WHEN I WANT REQUESTS. I WAS SO EXCITED TO WRITE THIS. Anyway, this is all interlinked in my head, it will all make sense when I update my fanfic. Lots of emotions and shit. But enjoy this because it will probably end up in a fanfic.
The night was long and grueling for Lin. Hours upon hours of excruciating pain wracked her body, each contraction like an iron vice tightening around her, leaving her breathless and shaking. Beads of sweat clung to her forehead as she gritted her teeth, her nails digging into the bedsheets. Tenzin was at her side the entire time, his warm hand wrapped firmly around hers, whispering reassurances between her hoarse screams and the string of colorful curses she hurled at him. At some point, she was certain she had threatened to bury him in metal if he ever got her pregnant again.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, a piercing cry filled the room. Lin gasped for air, her body sagging against the pillows as exhaustion washed over her. It was over.
“Congratulations, it’s a girl!” Katara beamed, her voice soft with joy as she cradled the tiny, wriggling bundle wrapped in warm blankets. Carefully, she brought the baby over and placed her into Lin’s waiting arms.
Lin’s breath hitched as she stared down at the little face peeking up at her. She had dark wisps of hair, a round, delicate face, and tiny fingers that fidgeted against the fabric.
“I’ll go tell the others and give you three some time alone,” Katara said warmly before stepping out, leaving the new parents in peaceful solitude.
Tenzin shifted closer, wrapping an arm around Lin’s shoulders as he looked down at their daughter. A small, contented sigh left his lips. “She’s beautiful, Lin.” He pressed a kiss against Lin’s damp forehead, his voice full of awe.
Lin’s eyes softened as she traced a finger along the baby’s cheek. “She was worth the pain,” she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper. Then, narrowing her eyes slightly, she turned her head toward Tenzin. “But don’t think about knocking me up anytime soon.”
Tenzin let out a breathy chuckle. “I wasn’t. We’ll have our hands full with her.”
The baby let out a tiny yawn, her tiny hand curling around Tenzin’s finger in a firm grip, as if she already knew who he was. Lin felt her heart swell at the sight—the way his expression softened, the way he held their daughter like she was the most precious thing in the world.
A gentle knock interrupted the moment. The door creaked open as Katara peeked in. “Is she ready to meet the family? I can’t keep Aang under control—he’s bouncing around like a child.”
Lin smirked at that and gave a small nod. “She’s ready.”
Katara stepped aside, and the family flooded in.
Aang was the first to reach them, practically beaming as he took his granddaughter into his arms. His eyes glistened with emotion as he gazed at her, his voice thick with nostalgia. “She looks just like you when you were a baby,” he said to Lin, smiling wide. “She has the Beifong look.”
Bumi leaned in, grinning down at his niece. “Yeah, she does. She’s gonna grow up to be just like our Linny—stubborn and strong as a boulder.”
Lin rolled her eyes but couldn’t hide the fond smile tugging at her lips. Her gaze flickered over the rest of the family—Aang, Bumi, Kya, Katara… and even Sokka, who was peering over everyone’s shoulders with an excited grin.
But someone was missing.
“Mom isn’t here, is she?” Lin asked, her voice quieter now.
Aang’s smile faltered just slightly, and Katara cast a sympathetic glance toward her. “No, we haven’t heard from her, but I’m sure she’ll be here eventually.” He placed a reassuring hand on Lin’s shoulder.
Lin nodded stiffly, pushing the thought away before she could dwell on it too long.
Then, before anyone else could say anything, hurried footsteps pounded against the hall, followed by a breathless voice.
“I’m here!”
Everyone turned just as a familiar figure appeared in the doorway—Kanto. He was slightly out of breath, his hands on his knees as he tried to catch it, but his face lit up the moment he saw Lin.
“Hey, kid.”
Lin smirked slightly. “Hey.”
He straightened up, his dark eyes flicking toward the baby in her arms. “Rough night?”
“You could say that.”
Kanto chuckled and stepped further inside. “Your grandparents are on the way—I kinda ran here.”
Lin shook her head in amusement. “Something like that,” she said before holding the baby out slightly. “Wanna meet her?”
His face broke into a grin. “It’s a girl?”
Lin nodded, and without hesitation, Kanto carefully took his granddaughter into his arms. A soft, uncharacteristically gentle look settled over his face as he took in the sight of her.
“Hey, look at you,” he murmured, brushing a finger against the baby’s tiny hand. “You look like your mom, alright. She’s gonna be a fighter—I can already tell.”
Not long after, the last guests arrived.
“I swear, he is more of a child than an actual child,” an older woman’s voice huffed as she entered the room.
Meilin, Lin’s grandmother, walked in alongside her husband, Wenshu. Despite her words, a smile tugged at the corners of her lips as she approached, her sharp eyes softening when they landed on the baby.
“She’s perfect,” Meilin said approvingly, nodding toward Lin and Tenzin. “What’s her name?”
The room fell into an expectant silence. Everyone turned toward the new parents, their curiosity evident.
“Yeah, what’s her name? You two refused to tell us,” Bumi added, crossing his arms. His comment earned him a swift elbow to the ribs from Kya.
Lin exchanged a brief glance with Tenzin before smiling. “Well… we thought we’d keep up a tradition.”
She hesitated for a moment, inhaling deeply before speaking again.
“Her name is Meilin Katara Beifong.”
A chorus of reactions filled the room—warm smiles, murmured approvals, and the unmistakable gleam of pride in her grandmother’s eyes.
Little Meilin let out a tiny coo, her fingers still gripping onto Tenzin’s. And as Lin looked around at the family surrounding her, she felt something settle deep in her chest—a warmth, a quiet sense of belonging.
Her daughter was home.

People will go on about how "Katara's story is a tragedy" because she... ended up marrying the guy she loves, having children and grandchildren which she was always excited about and literally becoming a master waterbender and rising to the top of her field as a healer.

Yes, Katara's story has tragic aspects to it. And there are certainly flaws in how she is written in tlok (Though I will argue that there are actually more issues with how Toph and Zuko are just plopped in there for no reason in later seasons). And her storylines aren't perfect, for example her resolving her trauma around the murder of her mother being more used to prop up Zuko than her own internal turmoil. (Most of TSR is from Zuko's perspective and I hate that actually)
"Katara's story is a tragedy" Why do you have such a hard on for this woman's misery? Let her be happy, man.
You know what gaang girlie's life is an actual onscreen tragedy?
Toph's!
People will fucking downplay Toph's childhood abuse because she wasn't physically hurt, but her childhood was a never ending carousel of abelism, misogyny, neglect and isolation. The way Toph describes her parent's treatment of her as "pressure and pain" is heartbreaking.
Toph's only escape was Earth Rumble and earthbending, but despite her skills, she remained the perfect little lady her parents always wanted her to be. She's never known a different life, and she was only able to be her real self in secret.
And when Toph finally opens up to her parents, when she finally lays her real self bare in front of the people who are supposed to love and care for her?
She is met with what may be, in my opinion, the cruellest rejection in the show.
Despite this, even when Toph runs away, she still cares for her parents' approval. Hell, she's even lured into a trap due to her getting a forged letter from her mom and getting excited because it looked like her mom was finally accepting her.
It's also important to note how determined to be self sufficient and to prove herself Toph is. We can especially see this right after she joins the Gaang, where she refuses to participate in splitting with the rest of the group, insisting on "pulling her own weight". This isn't Toph being a brat, or spoilt, this is her wanting to prove that she can handle herself because people have handled and understimated her her entire life.
Eventually, Toph starts to learn to trust the members of the Gaang and this is a step in the right direction. She's literally making friends for the first time in her life I'm so proud of her.

However, I was genuinely upset when Toph's life changing field trip with Zuko didn't work out. When Toph was trying to connect with Zuko and he blew her off (I'm not blaming him tho they had shit to do), I couldn't help but remember the rejection Toph suffered from Lao.
Post canon, Toph continues to try and prove herself, starting a metalbending school and training new metalbenders.
She also reconciles with her father. Not before Lao disowns he rmultiple times and calls her a rude, ungrateful thing. And while he eventually comes to understand Toph and cherish her, that type of trauma sticks with you.

So it's no wonder really that Toph, someone who went her entire childhood seemingly without even speaking to someone her age, would have trouble forming connections. She has children with two different men, neither of which seem to stick around.
Toph tries to do right by her daughters and gives them the freedom she never got. Sadly, the pendulum swung too far to the other side, since it seems that she started to neglect her daughters, which led to them developing a sleugh of issues of their own.
Toph becomes the cheif of police, which kind of makes sense. Republic City was only slowly emerging as an actual metropolis. Toph took on a role as a protector, and probably as a way to prove herself. But as Republic City grew, Toph probably realised that she became something she hated. A cog in the machine, and started to despise her job.

Searching for a semblance of the freedom and happiness her travels afforded her in her childhood, Toph leaves the city and takes up the life of a hermit in a swamp. She managed to fix her relationship with Suyin to some extent, but still seems reluctant or simply unable to connect with her daughter or grandchildren. Since she apparently hasn't seen Opal, a grown 20 year old woman since she was a little girl.
On the surface old Toph doesn't seem terribly dissimilar to young Toph, still tough and spunky. But she is more jaded, depressed and pessimistic. She comes out to save Suyin from immediate harm and manages to somewhat reconcile with Lin, but then she fucks right back off to the swamp where she seems to literally hide until Wu and Korra straight up force her to come with them.
Toph's story began with her alone and it seems to end with her alone as well. It's a story of a girl who grew up isolated and handled by others, and was woefully unprepared for the real world, which only jaded her further. She lives with the guilt of fucking up her daughters' lives and a belief in the pointlessness of life.

Toph started off longing to experience the world and ended up willingly isolating herself from it.
If that isn't a tragedy, I'm not sure what is.
Mind you, this is not the trauma olympics. I'm not saying that Toph has suffered more than Katara or that Katara's trauma is not as valid as Toph's. Katara and Toph's experiences are completely different, Katara being a victim of genocide and war, Toph being a victim of child abuse. I'm just saying that, objectively, Katara had a happier 'ending' than Toph.
#that being said I lowkey love Toph's storyline#i don't think her life would be better if she were in a “traditional” family btw#hey lao beifong what if i killed you#toph beifong#toph#katara#suyin beifong#lin beifong#zuko#aang#lao beifong#beifong brainrot#opal beifong#legend of korra#avatar#tlok#the legend of korra#avatar the legend of korra#atlok#lok#atla#avatar: the last airbender#the last airbender#avatar the last airbender#kataang#pro toph beifong
