Subspace doodles (PHIGHTING! Mermaid au)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
so I was thinking more about the PHIGHTING mermaid au I’m doing and. What if subspaces’ gas- instead of being like actual gas, was polluted oil? I think that could make for a really cool trope if I ever were to redesign him for it :3!
For the design notes in specific:
When out of control, his “gas” takes the form of polluted oil, in control (as in wearing his mask and tank) it gets filtered into something akin to toxic brine (in which long exposure to can cause a lot of issues, specifically different types of shock, breathing issues, etc). Although the brine isn’t too dangerous to be around in small amounts, it can be harmful over time.
for those wondering what ACTUAL brine water (or more specifically brine pools) are, it’s pretty much a large accumulation of highly concentrated saltwater (which usually is around 10 times saltier then the ocean surrounding it) For most sea animals this brine means instant death due to the fact that is has no oxygen in it as well as the high saline levels.

Yt ppl thinking black people are dirty for not washing our hair often (bc we literally don’t have to) will never not be odd to me because like… you don’t think it’s nastier that you HAVE to wash your hair every few days or else it gets GREASY and stringy?

Question: Since the mutation that makes sphynx cats nakey (their hair is fragile and sucks) can just happen at random. How would a Clan treat a nakey cat born among them? Could they make them a coat?
I think, at first, there would be concern that it's some kind of sign. Hairlessness looks like mange, a very serious and contagious condition. This could be a terrible omen-- that mange will be brought down to us.
But it would become apparent the kitten isn't a fader, it isn't a StarClan warrior who came down to deliver the others, or a mere sign. It's pink and wrinkled, like a newborn rodent, but moves as the other kits do. Did StarClan... forget its fur?
There's another feared creature without any fur-- humans. It looks human.
I think the poor thing would have a lot of problems with the other cats its age and maybe the more superstitious members of the Clan, but a warrior of the Clan is a warrior of the Clan. Life would be harder for them, but there would still be love that exists.
They'd be capable of making them a coat, and they WOULD need it, but I can see that cat trying to go without it for fear of being made fun of. That's another thing humans do-- wear pelts all over themselves because they have no fur of their own.
Unfortunately they'd also be prone to a ton of really bad health problems. This poor guy would be in the Cleric's den a lot, and may need to retire early or focus on campbound activities.
Health problems;
Pelt is a LOT weaker; injuries from battle or even training would be a lot more severe, Cleric may recommend them not taking part in fights.
Skin becomes filthy, and needs special cleaning. There is no fur to absorb the oil that the skin naturally makes to keep the coat healthy, causing buildup.
Even with proper cleaning, the skin is super prone to rashes, lesions, and constant irritation. Wash TOO MUCH and the skin will become dry and chapped.
SUNBURN. Especially in WindClan, where the warrior might spend a lot of time on the open moor in daylight, and RiverClan, where light reflecting off the water could cause an intense burn. It would be recommended the warrior take night shifts, but this could be an issue because night is cold. (BB!Cats are crepuscular).
Additionally; such severe, uniquely-placed sunburns are something Clerics wouldn't see very often. Lack of medical experience with these sorts of injuries could prove dangerous.
Ear infections. Cats naturally have hair in their ears, which their earwax production accounts for.
Both heatstroke AND frostbite. Very bad temperature regulation leading to severe ailments. Fur helps stabilize body temperature.
So in conclusion...
Life would be very difficult for this individual. Fur isn't just full-body hair; it's almost as fundamental as a top layer of skin. This would be a serious disability for a Clan cat to have, and it may invoke the image of detested humans leading to social stigmatization.
But because they're clanborn, they are unambiguously a member of the Clan. It's likely that the Clan would make clothing for this warrior out of fur pelts, but in their struggle with internalized ableism, they might have conflicted feelings about wearing it.
The Cleric would recommend campbound activities, night shifts, and WEARING YOUR PELT, DAMN IT. They would need to take full baths every few days, not too much and not too little, plus frequent ear cleanings.

I've been trying to get into the habit of washing my hair every other day instead of every day because I'm sick and tired of people telling me it's unhealthy to wash my hair daily (even if they're right and/or have good intentions). The issue is that I inhereted my dad's extremely oily scalp, so if I go longer than 24 hours without washing, it gets so bad that I can smell the oil at my roots.
So I've been going through a lot of dry shampoo lately.

Random thought I had: Do the fae in the Cruel Prince know about global warming?
Because funny idea where Jude casually mentions global warming and Cardan is like “what’s that?” And she explains and it sends him into a spiral to the point he sends someone to get books about and now he’s just suffering an existential crisis.
I’ve given you all a fanfic idea

Fresh Gathered Peas
Artist: Francis Wheatley (English, 1747-1801)
Period: 1750-1850, 18th Century
Origin: England
Medium: Oil on Canvas
Description
Francis Wheatley’s Fresh Gathered Peas shows a woman unloading baskets of peas from the back of a cart. A group of women, who have bought the produce, are preparing their baskets for the journey home, whilst children watch on. The abundant baskets, the young fresh faces of the women and children, and the soft sunlight contribute to this cheerful scene of lower-class urban living. Only the man looks anything other than contented, his evident fatigue suggesting he has driven the cart a long way, resulting in the aching neck he gently rubs.

Texas is still suffering from power outages triggered by Hurricane Beryl which dissipated a week ago.
More than a week after Hurricane Beryl swept through Texas and left millions without power, nearly 60,000 people in the state still do not have electricity. The issue is more than an inconvenience, as many in the state have faced a deadly days-long heat wave that claimed its latest victim on Tuesday. Local news reported that a woman was found dead in her apartment after spending the last eight days in her home without electricity and air conditioning. The heat index in Houston had climbed to 110F (43F) the day her body was discovered. With the power issue lingering and more than a dozen deaths now linked to the heat, frustrations in Houston have started to boil over - particularly as the forecasts for the coming days warn of high temperatures. Armed residents living without electricity have reportedly harrassed and threatened workers from CenterPoint Energy, the local energy provider, who have been sent out to restore power. Texas Governor Greg Abbott issued a statement saying that CentrePoint Energy "has lost the faith and trust of Texans". He issued a July 31 deadline for the company to respond to questions about what went wrong and what can be done to mitigate hurricane damage to the electric grid.
Climate-denying Republican Gov. Greg Abbott followed that Texas GOP tradition of leaving the state whenever climate causes a disaster leading to misery and death for residents. We remember Sen. Ted Cruz heading to Cancún when a winter storm caused the state's separate power grid to collapse.
Gov. Abbott went to Milwaukee to attend the GOP convention to brag about himself sending busloads of migrants to Chicago.
Gov. Abbott says Texas will continue busing migrants to Chicago during RNC speech
Those migrants are being sent north with taxpayer money in air conditioned buses while Abbott's Texas constituents are dropping dead from the heat.
Abbott himself was enjoying the moderate climate of the Upper Midwest where the high temperature in Milwaukee on Thursday is expected to be a refreshing 75° F/24° C. No place in southeastern Wisconsin will even make it to 80° today.
Tumblr media
Abbott and other MAGA Republicans will be celebrating the climate policies of the Orange Dear Leader whose election would guarantee even more climate disasters for the Lone Star State.

idk i feel like AI is more complex than just. never use it or always use it. like idk i genuinely do not give a fuck about the small local fast food places or restuarants that use AI for what would other be stolen stock photos poorly photoshopped together. i cant really gaf about a teenager using c.ai for self-inserting ship rp, cos who the fuck would want to be on the other side of that rp. idc if someone wants to make funny goku images with it or create design ideas.
the shit i care about is people using it for misinfo and scams, thats the stuff thats actually worrying. like how am i meant to care abt any of the above when you can so easily create lies and fool people who can't distinguish AI from photos and "real" art. its so much easier to scam people now - you can't really do the old trick of asking someone to take a weird photo, but you can spam listings for products that could never exist.

So Ranni's Dark Moon is a cold sorcery. Ranni appears inhabiting the form of an artificial doll. And as far as I'm concerned that goes a long way towards confirming that her ending is the true end of Elden Ring. Because it is the only available option that launches FromSoftware out of the Victorian Era that is portrayed in Bloodborne: the production of artificial cold.
The modern world would not exist without the advances in artificial cold storage that were made through the 1860's to 1910's. And at the same time significant discoveries about electricity were being made through the 1800's - altogether leading to the first commercial refrigerator for home use in 1913. Air conditioning is now ubiquitous in North America (much more than in Europe for example, which struggles with climate change driven heat waves that exceed the capacity of houses traditionally designed to promote air flow for cooling). Superconductors! Discovered in 1911 thanks to the development of refrigerants. Powerful electromagnets used in MRI/NMR machines, mass spectrometers, and particle accelerators.
The point being: the ability of humans to produce electricity and cold on demand revolutionized technology and population distributions. There is significant potential to explore these in the fantastical framework that FromSoftware has been using in previous games - similar to the medical metaphor of Bloodborne.
On the other hand, I believe that there is not a single ending to Elden Ring capable of resolving the looming threat of the Frenzy Flame - and this is intentional. We haven't figured that one out in real life either. There is no magic fix for summers so hot and dry that vast stretches of forest burn in fires on the west coast of America every year, or for oceans heated to the point that coral reefs experience catastrophic bleaching. Refrigerators do not create cold, but instead have a process for removing heat from a confined space. Many methods of electricity generation (including nuclear) are actually accomplished using steam and thus have a byproduct of heated water. It is a reality that creating artificial cold contributes to the net increase in planetary heating. It is also a catastrophic problem whenever a location reliant on electricity and cooling is suddenly cut off - such as in the case of natural disasters. These are warnings that not even the most technologically advanced places in the world are resilient enough to the increased severity of natural disasters that go along with climate change.
Overall, viewing the creation of cold as an incomprehensible source of horror in the style of H.P. Lovecraft's "Cold Air" will not help. Taking cold for granted and assuming that someone else will solve the complex problem of sustainability and regulating global thermodynamics also will not help. We could sit around and hope that some volcano erupts and fills the sky with ash worldwide to cause a period of global cooling - which would likely have only a temporary effect and also cause its own problems. As much as we can explore different methods of producing electricity, we can't ignore that a large portion of that electricity is and will continue to be allocated to refrigeration.
"As it is now, life, and souls, and order are bound tightly together, I would have them at great remove. And have the certainties of sight, emotion, faith, and touch... All become impossibilities." - Ranni
And with the real world context that the 84 of the 118 known chemical elements were discovered after the year 1800 it can be pieced together what Ranni is likely talking about in her speech. The Age of Stars is the Atomic Age - or at least the years leading up to the 1940's. You can't see or feel atoms but they exist and can be empirically quantified whether or not a person believes in them.
(And on the other hand the heyday of the movie star is positioned right in this timeframe from the 1920's to 1960's. Age of Stars - but not in the way that you might think. The stars are other people).
