“candle” - Jegulus microfic - @into-the-jeggyverse - 338 words
Regulus just got home and he walks through the living room to the kitchen looking for James.
“James?” He calls when he doesn’t find him.
“Out back.” James answers.
Regulus walks out the back door and his breath hitches and his eyes fill with tears when he sees James standing on their patio with his hands behind his back. He’s wearing a full suit and tie, there are twinkle light hanging above him and he’s surrounded by candles.
“James?” Regulus whispers, he doesn’t trust his voice to speak any louder.
“Hi, love.” James smiles. Regulus slowly walks over to him and he feels a tear roll down his cheek. James brings one hand out from behind his back to cup Regulus’ cheek and brush the tear away with his thumb. “No tears.” He says softly.
“Can’t help it.” Regulus’ voice cracks. He’s overwhelmed with emotions and he can’t help it when words start tumbling from his lips. “Because you… and you look… and the lights… and all the candles…”
“One candle for every year I’ve loved you.” James smiles and Regulus quickly scans the candles surrounding James.
“We’ve only been together 3 years. There are 7 candles?”
“Regulus, I have loved you since the day I met you. And if you’ll let me, I’ll love you every day for the rest of our lives and then some.” Regulus lets out a sob as James drops to one knee and brings his other hand out from behind his back holding a small box. James opens the box to reveal a silver ring, and Regulus drops to his knees along with James.
“Yes.” He says and leans in to kiss James.
“Regulus…” James pulls back slightly with the biggest grin.
“Yes!” Regulus wraps his arms around James’ neck bringing him back for another kiss.
“Reg… I had a whole speech written.” James says, chuckling against Regulus’ lips.
“Read it to me later. Yes!” Regulus says again and James takes his hand and slides the ring on his finger and pulls him in for more kisses.

jealous - Jegulus Microfic - @into-the-jeggyverse - word count: 434
Regulus wasn't sure why he still showed up that night. Rage and confusion was coursing through his system and his mind was so full of conflicting emotions that if felt like a storm was going on behind his forehead. But still he sat, knees pulled to his chest, and waited for James Potter to arrive at their usual spot.
"Alright, Reg?" was James's only way of announcing himself. And immediately, Regulus took his anger out on the unsuspecting Gryffindor.
"Spectacular," he deadpanned, huffing and rolling his eyes. "As are you, I imagine, after spending the day with Lockheart."
James froze for only a moment, levelling him an incredulous look, before stepping forward to try to meet his eyes. Regulus turned away. "Reg. What're you on about? I-"
"It's quite alright, Potter. I'm sure you had a lovely time. And who am I to judge if you see one person in the day and another in the evening?" Regulus muttered, voice cold as ice.
But James took another step closer. "I-"
"Really, I should count myself lucky!" he went on, fires of jealousy burning bright in his veins. "At least I'm not the warm-up act!"
"Reg-"
"Then again, maybe you decided he's good enough to be seen with in public? Meanwhile, you can only see me behind closed doors?"
"Reg, I-"
"I mean, you out to go back to Evans! She's picture-perfect! Everyone approves of her. Or are you still with her and I'm just-"
"Regulus!"
He stopped talking, panting a bit, the pain of holding back tears making his head hurt. Arms crossed, he finally met James's gaze. "What?" he spat vehemently, heart beating so rapidly he could barely discern the pattern.
James moved so their chests were pressed together, his arms pulling Regulus close. "I am not with Lockheart. We were assigned to do a project together. I think he's an annoying prick."
Regulus deflated a bit at that, melting at James's fierce expression, at the way his hand moved to cup Regulus's cheek.
"And I'm not with Lily. I'm not with anyone! I- I don't know what this is with us, but this is all I want. I've just thought you didn't want it! That you were just...I don't know...having fun, or-" James sighed, eyes full of anguish. "I thought you didn't care."
Regulus frowned, fear flooding through him as he realized his vulnerability. "I-I don't."
The other boy let out a small chuckle. "Well. You should know. I do. Quite a lot. Okay?"
Oh, how Regulus wanted to kiss him. "I guess that's alright," he murmured, before pulling their lips together.

hihi i love ur work sm <3 could you pls do a barty crouch jr sunshine x grump except the reader is the grump? ik barty isnt rlly sunshine like but he seems a lot more outgoing and energetic when compared to the reader. for the prompt could it be a.6 where the reader is just being her usual grumpy self and barty sort of mocks her? if the idea doesnt sound so appealing u dont have to do it i understand !! (also ignore the fact i submitted this earlier but forgot to put the prompt lmfao)
hi sweetheart! first of all, no i will not ignore your earlier ask because what you said about my writing was soso sweet and i think about it daily<33 i am a truther of barty being the sunshine in these dynamics because his chaotic energy needs a bit of a grumpy counterpart which is why i'm also a bartylus truther shhh so i'm in love with your idea, thanks darling xx this was so fun to write, why is he like this
Prompt: A.6 "Aren't you just a sweetheart?"
Words: 2.4k
Warnings: not proofread, fem!reader (she/her pronouns used), you are in gryffindor sorry and marauders!bestie, mostly barty pov so it's sassy and biased, banter/bickering, language, some innuendos/suggestive jokes, they do not kiss physically but are making out in barty's head tbh, jegulus appearance my loves, a little bit of bartylus snuck in there
Note: i love their dynamic here, might write some more blurbs with the same storyline/concept
continuation can be found here <3 and here
Barty could not believe Regulus had betrayed him on such a carnal level.
Becoming chummy with Gryffindors in general should be considered a cardinal sin, but shagging one on the regular? Insisting that shagging was a “crude term” for it and insisting Barty accept that his best friend, stupid wanker, is actually in love with and dating James Potter, the epitome of Gryffindor bravado?
Absolutely unacceptable. Arguably a hate crime, and he told Regulus as much, only to be met with an eye roll as the black haired boy continued to drag him along to where his new boyfriend was sitting in the Great Hall, surrounded by friends.
“Well, if it isn’t Baby Black?” A girl called as Regulus approached the group, hauling Barty along with him. Others around smiled and greeted Regulus – not Barty.
“Shut it, McKinnon,” Regulus grumbled, sheepishly taking the seat on James’s left that he had saved for him. Barty could spot a slight pinkish blush creeping up on Regulus’s cheeks when James murmured a hey love and kissed his cheek.
Barty could puke at the sight.
Nevertheless, he shoved some Gryffindors further down the table to take a seat beside Regulus. For whatever reason, he had believed it necessary to bring Barty with him every single time he meets James’s gnarly pack, so Barty assumed the role of protective friend while still making it exponentially clear that he disapproves.
“No acknowledgement for me then?” Barty looked around the table who were in one degree or another cooing at the fresh couple. All except Sirius, who, like Barty, was faux gagging at the sight.
It’s a new low for Sirius Black to be your one ally.
“Make yourself note-worthy, and we’ll say hello to you, Junior.” The gruff voice came from you, who conveniently was sitting opposite Barty this morning.
You were thus far the most tolerable of James’s friends, mostly because you had yet to be as loud and obnoxious as the rest, despite the red and gold around your neck. You had yet to say almost anything at all, but what you did say had a habit of drawing a snort from Barty. Mostly because it was never particularly kind.
Your eyes didn’t leave the crossword puzzle you were working on as you ate, shutting out the bickering around you, yet somehow picking up on Barty’s comment.
Intriguing.
“I take great personal offence to that, darling.” Barty's voice was incredulous but he sported a contradicting wicked grin, happy at the opportunity to wreak a bit of havoc if he must be seated here.
“Ew.” You looked up at that, eyes narrowing at the pet name he gave you. He decided then and there, that was the only way he would refer to you from now on. “And good. Maybe it can help you build some character.”
“Oh, come on, James butted in, finally drawing his eyes from Regulus – who he had sneaked an arm around before the boy could protest at the public display of affection – and looking at his dear friend and his disgruntled friend-in-law. “Be nice to Junior, he slithered here all the way from the comforts of his dungeon.”
“So did your boytoy, Potter, so watch your mouth.” Sirius, James and Regulus all winced at the word boytoy, though for very different reasons.
“And so I am being nice to him,” James retorted, squeezing Regulus as he looked down at him. “Aren’t I, love?”
“Shut up,” Regulus whispered.
“You’ve already said that today, Reggie,” McKinnon replied with a sly grin. “Find another comeback, why don’t ya?”
Regulus just rolled his eyes at her while Sirius bumped his shoulder into hers in a sign of approval.
“Anyway.” Barty drew the attention back to him as he spoke up, but his eyes were trained on you. “Build some character you say? What character would you like me to be, baby?"
You sized him up, clearly debating whether to follow James's advice or take Barty's bait. The latter seemed to win.
"Someone less disruptive would be a great start."
"That would hold more bite if you didn't willingly surround yourself with this lot," Barty laughed, waving his arms a bit too theatrically towards your friends, some of which were scowling at him, others nodding in agreement. Barty swore he could hear James whisper fair under his breath.
"Willingly is a bit of a stretch." You side-eyed Sirius beside you with a sly grin, who took a few seconds to process your sentence. Once he realised, he gasped and swatted at your arm for the disrespect.
Barty was enjoying himself much more than he expected.
"Aren't you just a sweetheart?" His grin never faltered as he continued his one-sided staring contest with you. As if you were the only thing in the room of notice, as if your friends weren't right there and needed to be won over by him as well.
“I can be,” you drawled, fighting to keep your face neutral. “You just gotta earn it."
Barty tilted his head, eyes narrowing with interest as he studied you. There was something undeniably magnetic about your sharp tongue, the way you seemed to remain so unbothered by the chaos swirling around the table.
He leaned forward, placing his elbows on the table, inching just a bit closer. “And how do I do that?”
Finally, you locked eyes with him properly, levelling him with your stare. Your expression remained impassive, but there was a flicker of something—curiosity, maybe?—beneath your cold exterior.
"That ship sailed so long ago, you can't even see it from harbour, Junior."
"Good thing I can swim." Barty winked at you, and part of him thought he caught you look flustered for half a moment as his comments grew flirtier by the minute.
“Fine by me, easier to drown you if you jump in the water willingly."
Barty barked a laugh, unphased by your words. "Don't threaten me with a good time." He could feel Regulus giving him a look from his right, but Barty ignored it. He was far too entertained by you now. “Tell me, do you give everyone such a warm welcome, or am I just special?”
Your lips twitched, but you held your ground, flicking your eyes back to the crossword in front of you. “You’re just annoying.”
Regulus groaned softly, clearly wishing he could disappear into the floor. He wasn’t exactly thrilled about having to subject himself—and by extension, Barty—to the whirlwind that was James Potter and his pack of friends, but he also wasn’t blind. He saw the way Barty’s attention had shifted, how your sharp, biting comments had hooked him in a way nothing else had managed to. He could practically feel the chaos brewing.
James, ever the peacemaker, clapped his hands together. “Right, well, now that we’ve all sufficiently insulted each other—again—how about we chat about something less murder-y?”
“No promises,” you murmured, flipping a page of the Daily Prophet as you continued working through the puzzle.
“Good efforts, Potter, but I fear she's just too intrigued by me” Barty sighed, leaning back in his seat as if exhausted by the mere prospect of attention. “I have that effect on people.”
“Oh, sure,” McKinnon chimed in, rolling her eyes. “We’re all positively obsessed with you.”
Sirius, looking entirely too pleased with himself, gave you an exaggerated wink. “I’d pay good money to see her put you in your place, Junior.”
“And I’d pay good money to see you mind your own business,” you retorted coolly, not even sparing Sirius a glance. Neither boy seemed sure if the comment was meant for Sirius or Barty, but didn't let that deter their entertainment.
Barty watched the exchange with open fascination. He couldn’t help but admire how easily you held your own amongst this overzealous group, considering their tendency to overwhelm people with their loud, boisterous energy. You were like a still, cold lake amidst a storm, unbothered by the wind and waves crashing around you.
He leaned closer to Regulus, his voice dropping slightly as he muttered, “I like her.”
Regulus, still recovering from the emotional whiplash of being dragged between Barty and James’s worlds, gave Barty a flat look. “Don’t.”
Barty’s grin only widened. “Too late.”
It became a strange, almost delirious routine for Barty to be swirled into the life of James Potter and Co. He minded it less and less, irritation soothed almost instantly once he saw you.
He sought you out every time Regulus brought him along, plopping down beside you on the common room couches, leaning on your chair at the library, catching your eye in the hallways. You presented begrudgingly, always rolling your eyes and scoffing, but your resolve crumbled slowly and the smile you were fighting became more insistent.
You and your dry retorts, you with your books or puzzles in hand, you and your knowing looks that grew more affectionate.
Barty was thoroughly fascinated.
"Don't screw this up for me please," Regulus would whine as the two of them walked back to the Slytherin dorms with just a few minutes left before curfew. They had dragged out their time sprawled across the couches by the fireplace at Gryffindor.
This time, as most times of late, Regulus hadn't asked Barty to come – he hadn't needed to. While the two usually spent most of their time together, Barty had practically been glued to his side as of late, ready to jump on the opportunity to see you.
"I won't," Barty dragged out the words with annoyance, as if he had said them a thousand times as of late. "Don't worry your pretty head so much Reggie, James won't care that I'm bantering with his bestie."
"It's not just the bantering I'm worried about," Regulus muttered, but Barty caught it clear as day. He gave his friend a look that demanded further explanation.
"You clearly fancy her, Barty!" He just blinked, as if to say and? Regulus groaned. "Just don't mess anything up with her to the point where she gets so angry she doesn't want to see you anymore. I don't want to have to deal with managing my time between you and James because she wants you dead."
Barty sighed dreamily at those last words, whispering wouldn't that be hot? Regulus gave him a corrective slap up the back of his head.
"I won't okay, I won't!" Barty was the one grumbling now, trying to deal with the infatuation in his stomach, just aching to go back and bicker some more with you, while also calming his best friend down. "I don't want to actually like hurt her or anything, I just like getting a little rise out of her."
Regulus paused before the entrance to the Slytherin common room, levelling Barty with a glare. He realised then that he seemed to have a type of person he prefers to associate with, because you had given him that same look earlier when you debated each other about who should get to sit in the comfy chair. He suggested you just sit in his lap in the chair – a great compromise, really – and a beautiful blush crept up on your face when you scoffed.
"If she will make you happy, please do go for it. But be careful, please." Regulus's tone of voice was intent, leaving little room for argument.
Barty still found some, of course, but he was soft for his friend and gave way.
"Fine, don't worry, I've got it under control," he all but whined. "It's not everyday stoic Regulus Black begs me for anything, so fine."
There was a smile on Regulus's face when he shoved him then, finally stepping into the Slytherin dorms to call it a night.
You were in the library the first time Barty got you all to himself.
It was a Saturday afternoon when Barty found himself wandering through the library, absentmindedly scanning the rows of books. He wasn’t really paying attention, more so killing time before his next Quidditch practice and possibly looking for some trouble, when he spotted you in a far corner. Much better.
For once you were free from your larger than life friends, nose peacefully buried in another one of your books as you twirled your quill before your fingers. Barty knew you were waiting to scribble something in the margin, and a surprisingly soft warmth sprouted in his chest when you did. A small smile tugged at his lips as he made his way over to you, leaning casually against the bookshelf beside you.
“Fancy seeing you here, sweetheart.”
You didn’t even bother looking up. “If you’re here to annoy me, I’ll hex you. Finally got some peace and quiet."
Barty laughed, taking the seat across from you without invitation. “You wound me. What makes you think I’m here to annoy you? Maybe I just wanted some quality company.”
“Quality company?” you echoed, raising an eyebrow as you finally looked up from your book. “And yet you chose to sit with me.”
“Exactly,” Barty replied smoothly, flashing you a grin. “You’re the most interesting person in this castle, and I’m bored. I’m sure you can entertain me.”
You gave him a long, appraising look, as if trying to figure out what his angle was. “You really don’t know when to quit, do you?”
“Nope.” His characteristic cheshire cat grin was playing across his features, and you ignored the stirring it caused inside you.
A pause stretched between you as your staring contest prolonged, and for a moment, Barty thought you were going to ignore him, go back to your book, and continue the delicate balance of biting banter and cold indifference that had marked all your previous interactions.
Then, much to his surprise, you closed your book with your fingers keeping your page. You leaned back in your chair as you regarded him with a calculating gaze. “Fine. Though if you’re so desperate for company, then you tell me something interesting. Junior.”
Barty blinked, not having expected you to actually engage. His grin grew and he felt pride bloom in your chest as you began to sport your own.
"Oh, I'll tell you anything you want, if it'll keep your attention on me, sweetheart."

Prompt: Under (@into-the-jeggyverse) | Pairing: Jegulus | Word Count: 536
“Prongsie, I’m telling you, the best way to get over someone is to get under someone else.” Sirius declared, his eyes watching the toaster as he waited for his breakfast to pop up. Sirius didn’t like toast that much, but he was oddly fascinated by the muggle appliance Remus swore by.
Regulus peered over at James from the top of his teacup, sending him a quizzical glare. James seemed to have read his mind, shrugging and swallowing the food in his mouth before asking the question they both wanted an answer to. “What are you talking about, Pads?”
“Gid. You’ve been a mess over him since the breakup.” Sirius looked over at his brothers, who were occupying the breakfast nook, just in time to see Regulus roll his eyes at the mention of James’ ex before sipping his tea.
James leaned back in his chair, a mischievous look taking over his features. “I have? I think I’ve been doing just fine. Better than fine, really.”
Despite his brother questioning his very secret and newly claimed boyfriend, Regulus found amusement in this situation. “Didn’t you break up four months ago?” he feigned ignorance.
“They did, and James has been in ruins since. He’s been withdrawing, canceling plans, I showed up to his flat the other night and he wouldn’t let me in because he was crying and said I couldn’t see him like this. Me! His best friend! Couldn’t see him crying! I’ve seen his cock for fucks sake. I know about the mole underneath his bal—”
“I told you my plant died and I was conducting a funeral!” James cut Sirius off before he could go into more details about his mole placements. Those were for Regulus to find on his own, thank you very much. Regulus was doing his best to stifle his laughter, only to let a few chuckles slip when James nudged his shin underneath the table with his sock clad feet.
“You didn’t let me pay my respects.”
“It was a private ceremony.”
“I’m your best friend!” His tone went up two octaves before lowering. “How do you have a funeral for a plant, anyway? Isn’t it already buried?” Sirius soon found himself looking away from the table as the toaster popped, signaling his food was finished. He grabbed the toast with his hands, hissing when he burnt the tips of his fingers.
Regulus set his cup of earl grey on the table. “You’re getting off topic. Potter, it’s alright to be sad over a failed relationship. But I think Sirius might be on to something; the best way to get over someone is to get underneath someone else.”
James tilted his head curiously, a small smile forming on his lips. “Oh yeah? Gonna help me test that theory, Reg?” he challenged, now leaning forward in his chair.
“I just might.” Regulus murmured, glancing over at his brother to see his back turned to them. He looked back at James, the both of them leaning in until their lips met in a chaste kiss. At the same time, Sirius turned away from the counter to face them, the piece of toast in his hand dropping to the floor as he shrieked.

Anyhoo. Here it is, I hope you enjoy!
totally didn't feed my overdramatic personality into this...
No warnings I can think of? Overthinking? Getting lost in your thoughts? Tears?
Poly!Jegulus x ravenclaw!reader
You were absolutely elated when you found out you had been assigned the captain position.
Sure, you were on a team that normally didn't win, but you were fine with that. You enjoyed the sport, the crowd, the family your team became, the community and environment.
It was the last game of the season and your team had finally won against Slytherin. Earlier in the season you had led your team to victory against Gryffindor. So, with one boyfriend left to beat, you had finally done it today, but apparently it had come with a price to pay.
As you were being crowded and tackled by your team you peeked over your best friend's shoulder, seeing Regulus storming off. And with that, your mood instantly dropped.
You slipped an easy smile back onto your face as you hugged the rest of your team before slipping off into the changing tent and then back to your common room.
You understand that Reg wanted to win his last game of the season, you did. But, it was your last game too, and only the second game you had been able to win that season. Shouldn't he be proud of you too?
When you finally made it back to your dorm, you quickly slipped into one of James's shirts (which were huge on you), and a pair of sleep shorts, before curling on in an armchair, pulling your knees to your chest and a blue fuzzy blanket up to your chin.
You didn't know how long you sat there. You also didn't know when James had slipped into the room, not even realizing he was there until he gently wiped tears away from under your eyes with the pads of his thumbs.
You startled, eyes lifting to meet his, to see sorrow swimming in his gaze. “You just gotta give him time, darling. You know how he gets about these things, he’ll come around.” James swiftly picks you up and takes your place in the armchair before resting you back into his lap.
You sighed, curling into his side, resting your forehead in the crook of his neck. “I know, it’s just hard sometimes.” You sniffle into his shirt, and he tugs you tighter against him.
“He will come around darling, I promise.” He says, leaving a gentle kiss to the top of your hair.
You lose track of time as you get comfortable, cuddling into James (stealing all of his warmth), yet he doesn’t complain. You smile into his shoulder as he starts running his fingers through your hair. You playfully bite his shoulder; he tugs on a strand of your hair in reprimand.
You had started to doze off when the door creaked open and James spotted Regulus’s head peek in. He gently tapped your shoulder and when he had gotten your attention, pointed to Regulus.
Your gaze met the stormy gray of Regulus’s before you looked away, finding a loose thread of your blanket far more interesting.
“Mon Amour, I’m so so sorry.” Regulus rushes over to you, crouching down in front of you. “My mind blanked, and I didn’t think before I walked away, and I’m so sorry.” He grabs your hand, pressing a kiss to the back of it before running his thumb along the back of it.
You frown, your eyebrows scrunching and slide out of James’s lap and onto the floor next to Reg. “It’s okay, my love. I understand what it’s like to have loads of pressure on your shoulders, I do too. It can overwhelm you at any moment; sometimes it can even come when we don’t want it too and take control of our actions.” You say wisely. “You had a moment, it happens to the best of us. You may be a wizard, but you are still a human. Bound to make mistakes for the rest of your life,” You remind dramatically, talking with your hands. Regulus laughs, his eyes lighting up again and grabs your hands, holding them stationary.
“I’m glad that you forgive me, mon amour, but you are over dramatic.” Your boyfriend dressed in green states.
You scoff as James slides down from the chair to sit with the two of you on the floor. “I love this make-up session you two are having, but you both are full of crap.” He tugs you both into his sides, one arm wrapped around each of you.
Regulus turns his head, biting James’s hand as you dramatically raise your hand before swatting him on the back of his head.
James quickly pulls his hand away from Regulus, retracting his hold from the two of you and holds the back of his head. “Hey!” You both turn your head and blink at him feigning innocence. “This is not attack James day.”
He smiles, teeth flashing. You dramatically cover your eyes, faking passing out; falling back from your sitting position and onto your back. “Ah, too bright. Can’t see. James you’re blinding me, can’t you see? Because I sure can’t.”
“Regulus was right. You are so over dramatic.” James rolls his eyes before leaning towards you and pulling your hands away from your eyes and pulling you into him.
“I. Am. Not.” You pout, crossing your arms and leaning out of James’s embrace.
Regulus leans towards you smiling and kisses your forehead. “Yes you are.” He whispers, tackling you to the ground, tickling your sides. “You are dramatic, and I love you for it.” You grin and Regulus gives you a skeptical glance as you turn and smile at James.
Before Reg could blink he was pinned down to the ground; roles reversed. James had his arms pinned to the ground as you straddled his hip, returning the attack of tickles that he had been serving you.
“You lose, Reggie.” You state in a sing-song voice, giggling.

──────────── ☾ ────────────
Another day of trying to fend off the Marauders with a fucking stick. You weren’t known for being particularly warm to anyone, let alone to the three boys who terrorized your house-mates daily, even though you always seemed to escape their pranks untouched. Unfortunately, your cold demeanor never deterred them from trying to charm you. Each of them, in their own way, had attempted to catch your attention, only to find your wit and icy demeanor an insurmountable wall. Every attempt was more vexing than the last, and you were growing more perturbed by the sight of them every day. It did, however, brighten your day a little, in some sick way, seeing their faces when you turned them down.
James was the first to try. Armed with his trademark confidence and lopsided grin, he cornered you outside the Potions classroom one afternoon, leaning casually against the doorframe.
“Hey angel,” he greeted, running a hand through his perpetually messy hair. “Fancy seeing you here.”
“We have class together, Potter,” you replied flatly, brushing past him and into the classroom.
Unbothered, he followed you, sliding into the seat next to yours despite the scowl you shot his way. “You know, I’ve been thinking…”
“That sounds dangerous.”
He laughed, undeterred by the jab you threw at him. “You’re funny. I like that. So, how about this—you, me, Remus, Sirius, a butterbeer in Hogsmeade this weekend?”
You didn’t even look up from your parchment. “I’d rather spend the weekend brewing Bubotuber pus.”
“Come on,” he said, leaning closer. “You’ll be missing out on the best date of your life.”
You leaned away automatically before finally meeting his gaze, your expression blank. “And you’ll be missing out on your dignity if you don’t leave me alone.”
James blinked, momentarily stunned, before letting out a bark of laughter. “Alright, angel. I like a challenge.”
“Good,” you said, turning back to your work. “Because you’re not getting anything else.”
He nodded with brows raised, “I’m aware.”
You spent the rest of class dodging his looks and ignoring his sickeningly sweet comments, gathering your books and hurrying out as soon as class was over, successfully avoiding any more hopeless persuading from James.
Sirius Black was the next to suffer. He prided himself on his charm. He’d never met a girl he couldn’t win over—until you.
It started in the library, where you were seated alone at a table, engrossed in a particularly dense-looking book. Sirius slid into the seat across from you, his signature smirk firmly in place.
“Hey there, gorgeous,” he drawled, propping his chin on his hand.
You rolled your eyes internally and didn’t look up. “Black.”
“Studying hard, I see. Not that you need to. I bet you’re brilliant at everything.”
“Flattery won’t get you anywhere,” you said, turning a page.
He grinned. “I’ve got other tricks up my sleeve.”
“I doubt that.”
His smirk faltered for a split second, but he recovered quickly. “Alright, love. What would it take to get you to have dinner with me?”
“An entirely different personality,” you said, still not looking up. You knew that statement was mostly true, or maybe, deep down, you were trying to convince yourself more than him.
He let out an exaggerated gasp. “You wound me.”
“Not yet,” you muttered, scribbling something in the margins of your book.
Sirius leaned back in his chair, clearly torn between frustration and amusement. “You’re playing hard to get.”
“No,” you said, finally meeting his eyes with a deadpan expression. “Try impossible.”
For once, Sirius had no response. He dragged in a breath, knowing he was losing momentum the longer he stayed silent. He sided with giving the table a quick tap as he got up and reluctantly walked away, mentally kicking himself for being off his game.
Remus Lupin was the final victim. He was subtler in his approach. He wasn’t one for grand gestures or flashy lines; instead, he opted for quiet conversation and shared study sessions. You were virtually looking over your shoulder every five seconds, knowing he would be trying his hand with you at some point. You avoided all three boys as much as you could, turning heel and leaving if you saw them coming your way in the corridor or entering the room you were in. Of course, your luck ran out.
He found you in the greenhouse one afternoon, tending to a particularly finicky Venomous Tentacula.
“Need a hand?” he offered, stepping carefully around the plant, his hands in his pockets.
You glanced at him, brow raised. “Not from you,” You paused, taking in the calm air around him, and against your better judgement, spoke again. “What would you know about Venomous Tentaculas?”
“Not much, but enough to know not to touch it,” he said with a small smile.
Your lips twitched, but you didn’t smile back. “I’m fine, thanks.”
He leaned against the workbench, watching you carefully prune the plant. “You’re good at this.”
“Obviously.” You kept an eye on him out of your peripherals, apprehensive, surprised he wasn’t trying to get in a spare word wherever he can, like James and Sirius did.
He chuckled softly. “I was being polite.”
“Well, don’t,” you said, setting down your shears and brushing dirt off your hands, turning to face him. “It’s unnecessary.”
Remus hesitated, then said, “You know, you don’t have to be so guarded all the time.”
Your eyes narrowed. “And you don’t have to waste your time trying to psychoanalyze me.”
“I wasn’t—”
“Yes, you were,” you scoffed, cutting him off. “And for the record, I don’t need your pity or your approval. So, if you’re done, I have actual work to do.”
Remus sighed, pushing off the workbench. “Alright, dove. I’ll leave you to it.”
And there’s another dreaded pet name. “Good idea.”
As he walked away, he glanced back over his shoulder. You were already focused on the plant again, seeming as if he hadn’t been there at all. When you heard the door shut behind Remus as he left, you let out a breath you didn’t know you were holding. He was the most tolerable out of the three, giving you space when you asked for it, leaving when you wanted. He was calmer than the others, a quality you appreciated. You shake the thought out of your head and pick up the shears once more.
The boys reconvened in the Gryffindor common room that evening, nursing their bruised egos.
“She’s impossible,” James declared, flopping onto the couch.
“Completely heartless,” Sirius agreed, though his tone was more impressed than frustrated.
“I told you,” Remus said calmly, sipping his tea. “She’s not interested.”
James sat up, a mischievous glint in his eyes. “Or maybe… she just doesn’t know us well enough yet.”
Sirius grinned. “Are you thinking what I’m thinking?”
Remus sighed. “This can’t possibly end well.”
But he didn’t stop them from planning their next move.
Within two weeks, their plan was in motion. The three boys were so dedicated that they spared time out of their precious weekend and stayed after Potions one day, ambushing Slughorn. Somehow, pretty easily in fact, they managed to convince him to make the four of you partners for the new project. Sirius put it under the guise of needing your “brilliant brain and knowledge” because he and James were “trying to be better students”. As if.
The next week, Slughorn announced the groups for the project. You sighed and narrowed your eyes at the three boys, knowing that somehow, this was their doing. If it was one thing, they were persistent. If only they put that effort into their schoolwork. You hoped you could just get this over with as soon as possible, you would even do all the work yourself to avoid being stuck in a room with them. You hurried out of class that day, annoyed. You shoved through the boys as they had tried to make their way to you as soon as you were dismissed.
You sat at your usual spot in the library, a fortress of books surrounding you, quill scratching furiously across parchment, trying to possibly finish the project without having any contact with the three menaces seated across the library. You could hear them whispering just a few tables away, their presence proving to be an irritating hum in the back of your mind. Sirius laughed, low and rich, and you refused to look up.
“Hey, angel,” James called, sliding into the seat across from you. You resisted the urge to roll your eyes and instead flipped the page of your textbook. “Since we’re all partners for the Potions project, we thought we’d… collaborate.”
“I don’t recall asking for collaboration,” you replied dryly, not sparing him a glance.
“That’s the thing about group projects,” Sirius chimed in, plopping into the chair beside you, a roguish grin plastered on his face. “It doesn’t require your approval.”
You raised a brow, scooting your chair away from him slightly. “I didn’t realize Gryffindors believed in forcing unwilling participants into things. Aren’t you supposed to be noble or something?”
Remus, the most tolerable of the trio, slid into the seat on your other side, carrying a stack of books. “You’re right, dove,” he said smoothly, voice calm and measured. “But unfortunately for you, Slughorn paired us up.”
Your jaw clenched. Sluggy and his infuriating belief in “Inter-House unity.”
“Fine,” you said sharply. “But don’t expect me to do all the work while you three mess around.” In truth, you were happy to do all the work if it meant you could escape this conversation.
“We wouldn’t dream of it,” James said, eyes sparkling behind his glasses.
The next evening, you found yourself in the Gryffindor dormitory, an unfamiliar space that smelled of old parchment, broom polish, faintly of Sirius’ cologne, and something you can only describe as teenage boys. You had practically begged to meet anywhere else, their dormitory being the last place you wanted to end up. Coincidentally, every option you came up with seemed to be taken. Your dorm-mates were using your dorm for their own projects, and were firm on their stance of “no boys, especially not those ones.” The library had a suspiciously timed incident of smoke bombs exploding, and all the students had to vacate until it was aired out. It had Marauders written all over it. Your house-mates would rather die than have three Gryffindors in their common room, so you didn’t even suggest it. As a last resort, you tried to coax them into working in their common room, but, once again, the answer was no. The rest of their in-house friend group decided to work right in front of the fireplace. The girl who introduced herself as Marlene definitely had a glint in her eyes, as if she was in on it. You just couldn’t win.
Reluctantly, you followed them up the stairs to work in their dorm. The room was, oddly enough, exactly what you expected. The space that was tidy with stacks of books on the floor next to the bed had to belong to Remus. Fitting. James’ and Sirius’ beds seemed to blend together, the only telling factors being the Quidditch posters by James’ bed and the record player and band posters by Sirius’. Also fitting. You knew most of the bands on Sirius’ posters. Surprised, you shook your head slightly. You couldn’t have anything in common with these boys, could you? The fourth bed, which you learned belonged to Peter, one of the boys in the group holed up in the common room, was a mix of tidy and messy, with a half-played game of chess sitting on the blanket.
There were clothes strewn on the floor between James’ and Sirius’ beds, both of the boys scrambling to pick them up and throw them out of sight as you walked in. They looked at you like they hoped you hadn’t seen it. You had. Remus scoffed a chuckle, which you somewhat appreciated, but didn’t let it show.
Now here you were, perched awkwardly on the edge of Remus’ bed, the cleanest place in the room, with your arms crossed, as the boys arranged their notes across the floor. The Gryffindor dormitory felt strangely foreign to you, with its warm tones and cozy chaos. It was nothing like the pristine coldness of the Slytherin common room, where everything was sharp edges and muted colors. Here, the atmosphere was alive, buzzing with an energy you couldn’t entirely place—and didn’t trust.
“So,” Sirius began, lounging on a pillow in his usual carefree manner, “any brilliant ideas, gorgeous?”
“I have several,” you replied, not acknowledging the irksome pet name, “but I doubt you’d appreciate the brilliance.”
James smirked. “Why so cold, angel? We’re charming, aren’t we?”
You snorted. “You’re persistent. That’s not the same thing.”
Sirius grinned, leaning forward. “I bet we’ll grow on you.”
You ignored him, focusing instead on the pile of notes on the bed in front of you. That was, until Sirius got up and began rifling through a stack of records near his bed. You rolled your eyes.
This was supposed to be about the project.
At least, that’s what you told yourself when you agreed to meet them here instead of putting your foot down and insisting on the library or another neutral space, or perhaps even working together on another day entirely. But you weren't naive—you knew better. The Marauders had been relentless in their attempts to worm their way into your life, and you had been equally relentless in shutting them down.
“You know,” James said, glancing up from his notes with an infuriating grin, “it’s not every day we let a Slytherin into our sacred quarters.”
Sirius spoke over his shoulder as he searched through the records. “Even Regulus hasn’t seen it.” You glance at Remus as he tries to catch your attention.
He mouthed, “His brother.” to you. You roll your eyes and mouth back, “I know that. House-mates, remember?”
James responded to Sirius aloud, “...Right, yeah.” You narrowed your eyes slightly, knowing his response was suspicious, but not pushing further. None of your business.
“Oh, I’m honored,” you replied to James’ initial comment, deadpanned.
Remus shot James a look. “Don’t mind him. He’s been insufferable since he got that Outstanding in Charms.”
“Not insufferable,” James protested, recovering and tossing a quill at Remus. “Confident.”
“Arrogant.” You corrected without missing a beat.
James clutched his chest as if you’d wounded him. “You wound me, love.”
“No,” you said, inspecting your nails. “But I’m considering it.”
From the corner of the room, Sirius laughed, his voice rich and warm. “I like her. She’s got bite.”
“Wouldn’t you like to know, Black?,” you muttered, side-eyeing him as he turned around with a record in hand. You immediately kicked yourself mentally for saying something that could be misconstrued as flirting.
Sirius’ eyes lit up. “In fact I would, doll. You offering?” Sirius said, flashing you a grin. You rolled your eyes, your silence being response enough. He took the record out of its sleeve.
“What are you doing?” you asked, brow furrowing.
“Setting the mood,” he said with a wink, sliding the record onto the turntable. Moments later, the opening notes of a familiar song filled the room. The unmistakable opening notes of Under Pressure by Queen and David Bowie graced your ears.
Your quill paused mid-sentence.
You didn’t mean to react, but the music stirred something in you—an instinctive recognition, a fondness you couldn’t quite mask. Maybe you could have something in common with them after all. Your lips twitched, just barely, and though you fought to remain impassive, your lips began to move slightly to mouth the words of the song. Anyone looking would probably just assume you were just talking to yourself to figure out your assignment. Unfortunately, you had no such luck.
Remus was watching you from his place on the floor, leaning against Sirius’ bed. A small smirk formed on his face as you continued reading a Potions book, still mouthing the words to the song. He scoffed a small chuckle and shook his head, not having expected you, of all people, to listen to Queen or Bowie.
The small noise caught Sirius’ attention and his eyes flicked to Remus. He followed his gaze to you, and he caught it immediately. His dark eyes lit up like fireworks. “Wait a minute.”
You looked at him sharply. “What?”
“You like Queen,” he said, his voice brimming with something close to awe.
“It’s just a song,” you replied, tone clipped, feigning indifference, but the words didn’t carry much weight.
James and Remus exchanged a glance, both clearly intrigued.
“Oh, no, no, no,” Sirius said, practically bounding over to you, his excitement spilling over. “This isn’t ‘just a song.’ This is Queen. This is brilliance. This is art. And you, my darling—” he pointed at you dramatically, “—you know it.”
You opened your mouth to retort, but before you could, Sirius flopped onto the bed beside you, far too close for comfort. Remus chided him for messing up his blanket, a scold he hadn’t extended to you when you sat down. You leaned away from Sirius slightly, but made no effort to actually move.
“Admit it,” he said, leaning in with a conspiratorial grin. “You’ve got good taste.”
Your lips twitched again, and this time you couldn’t quite stop the ghost of a smile from appearing. “You’re ridiculous.”
“And you’re avoiding the question,” he shot back, his grin widening.
“It’s just a song,” you said stiffly, though your body language had betrayed you.
“No, no, this is monumental,” Sirius declared, rolling dramatically onto his side and throwing his arms in the air. “I knew you had taste!”
Remus took this as an opportunity to chime in. “Queen’s one of his favorite bands.”
“They’re the best band,” Sirius corrected. “And now I know you have some semblance of a soul.”
You rolled your eyes, but didn’t pull away when Sirius leaned closer, his energy almost contagious. “Don’t get ahead of yourself, Black,” you said, but your lips twitched upward ever so slightly.
James, not one to miss an opportunity, tossed you another question. “Alright, love. What’s your favorite Queen song?”
You gave him a deadpan look. “I’m not playing your little games, Potter.”
“Fine.” he looked away for a moment, before turning back with a hopeful smile. “Queen or Bowie?”
Remus, ever the observant one, chimed in gently after a moment. “It’s alright, you know. You can like Queen and still pretend you don’t tolerate us.”
You rolled your eyes but didn’t deny it. The music played on, filling the room with its familiar rhythm, and for the first time that evening, for the first time with them, you felt yourself softening—just a fraction.
You hesitated, eyes flickering to Sirius, whose expression was a mix of hope and anticipation. He was grinning like he’d just won the Quidditch Cup. You scoff in resignation. “...Both. But I’m partial to Queen.”
Sirius let out a triumphant laugh, throwing his arms into the air. “I fucking knew it! She’s got taste!”
“Congratulations,” you said dryly. “You’ve discovered that I enjoy good music. What a revelation.”
“It is,” Sirius insisted, still grinning. “You’ve officially earned a pass in my book.”
You raised an eyebrow. “A pass for what?”
“For being tolerable,” he said jokingly, as if it were obvious.
“Oh, how generous of you.”
Remus chuckled softly. “You’ll have to forgive him, dove. He doesn’t know how to behave like a normal person.”
“I can see that.” You snickered dryly, appreciating the semblance of alliance you seemed to have formed with Remus.
Sirius leaned back on his elbows, watching you with an expression that was almost smug. “See, gorgeous? You’ve got more in common with us than you think.”
“Now I wouldn’t go that far,” you shot back, though the edge in your voice was noticeably duller. Sirius looked back at you deadpanned, but that smirk seemed to be glued to his face.
“Fine,” you muttered. “I like Queen. Happy?”
“Ecstatic,” Sirius said, beaming.
For the first time, you didn’t feel entirely out of place with them.
James, sensing the shift, tossed you a chocolate frog from his nightstand. “You’ve somehow found common ground with Sirius. That means you’re officially one of us now.”
You caught it, unwrapping it slowly. You raised your brows at him. “One of you? A kind offer, but no.”
Sirius threw an arm around your shoulders, grinning like a madman. The contact was uncomfortable, but you made no effort to pull away completely. Remus chimed in this time. “Sirius is the most judgemental out of all of us. You get in with him? You passed.” He shrugged at you as if his statement was absolute.
James leaned forward with a mischievous glint in his eyes. “You know, angel, we might just have to keep you around.”
You scoffed. “Please don’t.”
“Too late,” Sirius said, his grin practically splitting his face. “You’re one of us now, whether you like it or not.” He leaned towards you and placed a dramatic kiss on your cheek. This time, you leaned away, furrowing your brows at him, wiping your face with your hand.
“Watch yourself, Black. You want to keep those lips? Keep them off me.” You shot at him.
Sirius gave you the infuriatingly enticing smirk that seems to be consistently plastered to his face. “Whatever you say, doll. But soon enough, you’ll be begging for our lips on you,” He shot a wink at you.
You rolled your eyes in response, popping the chocolate frog into your mouth. You glance at the other two boys, who seem to agree with Sirius. “In your dreams, Black.”
Sirius got up from the bed, scurrying to his corner, “Oh, believe me, we see you plenty in our dreams, gorgeous.”
For the first time, you don’t have a response.
Before you could wallow in the feeling of being speechless, Sirius came back with a thick stack of records and tossed them down on the bed next to you, earning him another scold from Remus about getting floor germs on his bed. You chuckle and share a look with him, shaking your head at Sirius’ antics. Sirius began to shuffle through his albums, questioning you about every band he knew of, as he tried to find another similarity between you. James chimed in every so often, commenting on one of the few bands or songs he knew of, only to get brushed off by Sirius as he was awaiting your input. Remus looked on from the floor, periodically trying to continue to work on the project. After a while, all of your schoolwork layed forgotten on the floor. As the music played on and the boys pulled you into their banter, you found yourself relaxing—just a little. Maybe they weren’t as insufferable as you thought.
Not that you’d ever admit it.

A Happy Accident
To @veryinnovative, thank you for yapping with me about Alpha James had his need to just chomp down on Regulus!!
Day 10: Marking (bites) (featuring omegaverse) - Jegulus Kinktober - @jeguluskinktoberr - 868 words - EXPLICIT
Since the very first time James had been invited to Regulus’ heat, he’d been obsessed with sucking marks and leaving love bites along Regulus' neck and shoulders. Regulus was covered in them, wherever James could reach, except the scent gland that would bind Regulus to him. James wanted to take it slow, date before jumping to such a decision, a fact that Regulus had protested many times. But sticking to his decision meant relieving himself of his need to claim Regulus in other ways.
Regulus was sitting in James’ lap in the middle of his bed—knot deep inside him—the weight of him slumping up against James’ chest, exhausted and content. It was a rare moment of peace in Regulus’ otherwise frantic heat.
“Bite me again,” Regulus demanded, tugging on James’ neck. At least Regulus was just as obsessed about it all as he was.
Leaning down, James nipped at the skin along Regulus’ collarbone, tongue running over it afterwards.
“No, properly,” Regulus grumbled, his hand weaving into the hair at the nap of James’ neck, pulling on it.
James was dangerously close to Regulus’ scent gland, especially when they were both influenced by Regulus’ heat. But, oh, there was nothing he wouldn't do for him. So, he sank his teeth into Regulus’ shoulder, pulling a moan from Regulus. He seemed to come alive again with it, any hint of exhaustion gone in favour of moving his hips in small circles against James’ knot.
“You want to come again, love?” James murmured.
“Yeah, I need you,” Regulus whined, clinging to James.
Reaching down between them, James wrapped his hand around Regulus’ dick. His fingers gild up and down easily due to the mess of cum from Regulus’ previous orgasms that covered it. “Bite me again,” Regulus moaned, “I need more.”
And James did, right next to his last mark, grinning against the skin at how Regulus’ breath hitched.
“Need more,” Regulus repeated, his hand tightening in James’ hair.
James continued, moving inwards on Regulus’ shoulder as he stroked Regulus’ dick. Tensing up, Regulus’ hip moved franticly in search of friction. And just in time, because James had reached where Regulus’ shoulder met his throat. The one spot he couldn't bite into stared up at him, mocking him. So instead, he brushed his nose over it, inhaling the addictively sweet scent of Regulus. His hand tightened around Regulus’ dick, speeding up. Oh, he wanted him for himself—only his.
With a cry, Regulus came, clamping down on James’ knot. Where James had meant to angle himself and bite into Regulus’ shoulder again, Regulus yanked on his hair, sending him open-mouthed right back. He couldn't have stopped himself in time, even if he wanted to. Biting down on Regulus’ scent gland, instincts took over. His arms circled around Regulus, keeping him there. James’ teeth sank fully in, marking Regulus permanently, mating him.
Euphoric pleasure welled up inside him as the connection fell into place. Light-headed and blissed out, James withdrew. He marvelled down at the mark he’d left, a perfect match to his teeth, now forever embedded in Regulus’ skin.
Emotions flickered over Regulus’ face in rapid succession—satisfaction, realisation, joy, worry.
James brought a hand up, cupping Regulus’ cheek, his mind not quite comprehending what had just happened.
His now, in every sense of the word.
But…
“You didn't mean to do that, did you?” Regulus said, finally breaking the silence.
“No.”
Regulus glanced away. “Because you don't want me to as your mate,” he said, as if the statement was pure fact rather than the most absurd thing James had ever heard.
“What?” James exclaimed before more quietly saying, “Regulus, please look at me.”
Regulus only hid his face away further.
“I want you as my mate,” James tried to explain, “That's why I’m so obsessed with covering you with love bites, because it was the only way to hold myself back from mating you too soon.” Pressing a kiss to Regulus’ curls, he whispered, “I want you, love, in everything.”
Regulus finally looked up, guarded hope in his eyes. “But you always told me we should wait.”
“I could live with you walking away, but regretting me? I…” James trailed off with a shake of his head, “I’m sorry I made you doubt me.”
“So, you're okay with it?”
“Being mated?” James asked, “I’m a lot more than just okay with it.” With a grin he hoped was comforting, James said, “Though I wish it’d been a bit more planned, so I could’ve made it special.”
“It was special,” Regulus retorted, that beautiful smile of his gracing his face.
“You deserve a bed covered in rose petals, a celebration, the whole ordeal,” James countered as he laid them down on the bed again, Regulus beneath him.
“You just want an excuse to throw a party” Regulus frowned, narrowing his eyes at James.
“So, this is how we'll spend the first few moments of being mated?” James chuckled, his hand braced on either side of Regulus’ head, looking down at his new mate.
“Arguing and fucking?” Regulus supplied.
“Yeah, alright, that doesn't sound half-bad,” James hummed, closing the space between them to capture Regulus’ lips with his.

July 24: dealer | @jegulus-microfic | word count: 595
Game nights were James’ favorite.
Every Saturday evening, James would host a small game night at his flat with all of his friends. They’d have a few drinks, maybe order in some food, and play card games for hours. James looked forward to it every week.
But this Saturday was going to be extra special.
Sirius, James’ best friend, was bringing his little brother, Regulus, with him to James’ game night. James had never met Regulus and was thrilled to finally meet Sirius’ brother.
Sirius had told James that sometimes Regulus was fairly mean and not to expect much out of him. James mulled over that and thought about a million exchanges that might go down between him and Regulus that Saturday.
However, James hadn’t foreseen that Sirius’ brother would be the most beautiful man he’d ever seen.
Regulus was the first person to arrive and he came alone.
When James opened the door his jaw dropped just slightly at the sight of the man in front of him. “Um, hi,” James stammered, “I’m James.” He held out a hand for Regulus to shake.
“I’m Regulus. Sirius’ brother. I’m sure he’s said something about me,” the other man responded in a cool voice, taking James’ hand.
He dropped his hand from the shake and led Regulus inside. “You’re the first to arrive, so it’ll be a bit boring before other people show up with the drinks and cards,” James explained, showing Regulus to his living room and gesturing him to sit on the couch with him.
Regulus nodded and sat down next to James leaving a small gap between them.
They sat like that, in awkward silence, for a few minutes before James couldn’t bear it anymore and asked, “Um, Sirius said you’re still finishing up in uni?”
Regulus nodded again and turned his piercing grey eyes on James. “Yeah, I’m about done with my last year.”
James muttered something that sounded vaguely like “That’s cool” before blurting again with, “So have you ever played cards before?”
Regulus raised an eyebrow at him. “I wasn’t raised under a rock, of course I’ve played before. What are we playing?” Regulus assured James.
James grinned and answered, “Blackjack.”
The other man’s cheeks went pink, which James found insanely adorable. “Oh.” Regulus looked sheepish all of a sudden. “I’ve actually… never played blackjack before. Our family only ever played poker.”
“Oh,” James said a quick prayer in his head before risking putting his arm around Regulus’ shoulders. “I can teach you the basics right now, if you’d like!” He grinned at the man.
Regulus rolled his eyes good-naturedly and huffed, “I guess.”
“Great!” James exclaimed. “So, in blackjack all the players are trying to get closer to 21 than the dealer, but they can’t hold over 21. If you go over, you bust and get nothing. Each hand is played separate and the end goal is to have a higher hand value than the dealer.”
Regulus’ brows furrowed while he took in the information. When James finished his explanation, Regulus remained quiet.
“So, did you understand any of that?” James asked with an airy chuckle.
The corners of Regulus’ lips tipped up in a small smile that lit up his eyes. “Er, no,” he confessed, laughing a little too.
James waved his hand, dismissing the problem. “Lily’ll explain it better anyway.”
James and Regulus made eye contact and burst out laughing together.
“PRONGS?”
Their heads snapped to the living room entrance where Sirius stood, bewildered expression on his face and a pack of 6 drinks in his hand.

@jegulus-microfic january 9, write, 303 words part two, part three
“I don’t want to face the world. I wish I could stay in this bed with you forever,” Regulus groans into his pillow, James laughing quietly in his ear.
They’d met at a bar on Friday night, had spent hours talking over dumplings and singing karaoke before stumbling back to James’ hotel. Friday night had turned into Saturday morning, which had turned into Saturday night, and then into Sunday morning; James’ check out and flight back to Edinburgh rapidly approaching.
“Those could be great song lyrics, you know?” James muses jokingly.
Regulus laughs, “You have my full permission to write them down and turn them into a hit.”
He’s just messing around, of course. James had mentioned in passing that he was an aspiring songwriter, but didn’t linger too long on the topic.
It’s months later that Regulus is drying dishes in his kitchen, only half paying attention to the radio on in the background. He and James have kept in touch, have even caught up again a few times when James is back in London for work. He’d never tell James this, but each time it gets harder and harder to watch him leave, having grown quite fond of waking up in his arms.
He’s reaching up to put the last of the mugs away when his ears prick up at the sound of familiar words, and a mug goes crashing to the floor.
I don’t want to face the world. I wish I could stay in this bed with you forever.
He stands frozen amongst the shards of ceramic as he listens to the rest of the song, his ears ringing by the time it finishes and the radio announcer says, “And that was the newest hit by global sensation, James Potter.”
James Potter. James, his James, is James fucking Potter.

Summer camp AU, part 1!
July 1st <3
Astrology - @jegulus-microfic - words: 1003
“Are you sure this is a good way to spend our summer?” Barty groaned as he Regulus and Dorcas walked into the entrance of the summer camp that they’d be working at for the next few weeks.
Regulus honestly didn’t expect to ever be somewhere like this, but ever since he moved out of his house and moved into Pandora and Evan’s when he was 18 a lot of things have become unexpected.
Pandora had managed to convince Barty, Regulus and Dorcas to help out with her and Evan at the camp this year, even though those three are the last possible people you would trust with kids. But for 20 year old university students, they’d take any chance at money they can get.
“It’ll be fun.” Dorcas insisted. “Plus we all get to spend some time together.” She smiled and spread her arms, pulling both boys in for a hug.
-
The summer camp was utterly massive, there were dozens of volunteers and the place would be swarming with groups of kids from ages six all the way up to sixteen tomorrow.
Another thing he’d forgotten to mention about this camp, his brother and his idiotic group of friends have been working here for years.
Regulus and Sirius had fixed their relationship, mostly. But Regulus has never actually met his friends, nor does he want to. He’s actually glad his parents separated him and Sirius at school, at least he didn’t have to deal with this lot.
“We will be assigning pairs before the kids arrive.” The leader spoke. “Each pair will live together and run group activities together.” She spoke. “Barty Crouch and Evan Rosier.” An excited squeal came from Barty. “Lily Evans and Pandora Rosier.” Pandora beamed and turned to stare at a smiling red head.
The list went on, Dorcas got paired with a blonde called Marlene. Both girls awkwardly shuffled towards each other. “Lastly, Regulus Black and James Potter in cabin 6.”
Fuck no. No- he’s not doing this with him. He’s heard so much about him from Sirius which just makes him hate him even more, he doesn’t want to be anywhere near that man. “You’ll be managing the 13-14 group.” Pointing at Regulus then to Potter, she smiled and put her clipboard down, leaving the group to find their partners.
He took a few steps backwards, hiding behind the crowd of people and praying that it takes Potter a while to find him. He stalked around to find cabin number six, it was by the edge of the woods and near a wide blue lake.
With a sigh he opened the already unlocked door and walked into the room, collapsing onto one of the two beds in the corner of the room.
It was so small in here, one small bathroom through a door in the back, a small kitchen in one corner and two beds placed on opposite sides on the back wall.
His friends knocked on ten minutes later, he sent them off and told them he’d talk to them tomorrow.
Thankfully, no one came to the hut after that until sunset.
-
Regulus sat on the pier, his baggy jeans rolled up just below his knees and his feet dangling into the ice cold water.
The sun had set, the sky turning a dark colour as the stars came out, the cloudless sky scattered with constellations. It was quiet, the only noises around him being the sound of the birds songs and the lapping of the smooth water.
Until the sound of leaves crunching came from behind him, footsteps sounding louder and louder until they stopped and a voice started speaking.
“Regulus, right?” The person spoke as they sat next to him.
Regulus didn’t want to answer, he knew who it was. He just nodded and hummed. It’s-
“James Potter, nice to meet you.” He held his hand out for Regulus to shake.
Hesitating and glaring at the hand, Potter spoke again. “I don’t bite.” He chuckled.
Regulus wanted to jump into the lake, damn Potter for being so nice. He was trying to be hateful right now but the tan, brunette and shockingly good looking man was making it really fucking hard right now.
With a sigh, Regulus took his hand, shook it and slipped his hand away instantly, going back to glaring at the water.
“I’ve heard so much about you from Sirius.” Potter smiled. “He loves talking about you.”
Regulus felt his ears prick up. “Really?” He spoke with a light to his grey eyes.
“It’s always ‘my little brother’ this and ‘Reggie’ that.” He laughed again, Regulus tried to ignore how much he loved his laugh.
Regulus nodded and went silent, now staring up at the very visible stars in the night sky. Ignoring the person next to him for a good five minutes before he got irritated at why he won’t just leave him alone.
“Why are you still here?” He snapped and looked over at the older boy, who was staring at the sky with a puzzled look.
The brunette shrugged, not taking his eyes away from the sky. “Do you like all this astrology stuff?” He asked and pointed at the sky.
“Astronomy.” Regulus corrected.
“Sirius tried to teach me about it, I didn’t really listen though.” Potter carried on as he narrowed his eyes at one of the brighter stars. “Is that the Sirius star?” He questioned and pointed upwards.
“That’s Arcturus.” Regulus spoke as he flicked his feet around in the water, even at night the air was surprisingly warm.
Potter made an ah sound and nodded. “H-“
Regulus cut off whatever he was about to say as he stood up. “I’m off to bed.” He walked along the pier, wet footprints marking the dry wood.
“Oh.” Potter sounded almost, disappointed? Strange. “Goodnight!” He yelled.
He wasn’t going to respond, but he walked a few steps in silence before breaking it. “Goodnight.” He spoke with a look over his shoulder and walked into the house.

“avoid” - Jegulus microfic - @into-the-jeggyverse - 338 words
Regulus locked himself in their bedroom and has been pacing nonstop. How could he have been so stupid? What could have possibly possessed him to– okay, he knows what possessed him. James Potter possessed him. James Potter possessed him the moment Regulus met him, so it was only a matter of time before–
Regulus’ spiraling thoughts are interrupted by another light knock on the door.
“C’mon Reg, please? Please, just talk to me.” James begs softly. “You can’t stay in there forever.”
“Watch me.” Regulus continues to pace.
“You have to eat. Go to work. See your friends…”
“There’s a window.” Regulus says.
“You would climb out a third story window just to avoid this?” James asks.
“Do you know me at all? I would burn this entire flat down, with you in it, to avoid this.” Regulus tells him and he can hear James huff a small laugh.
Regulus rolls his eyes picturing the ridiculous smirk spreading across James’ face. Why his murderous tendencies are a turn on for James, Regulus will never know.
“Does it help if I say, ‘I love you, too’?” James says softly.
Regulus freezes in his pacing and stares at the door. It takes a moment to remember how to move his feet but eventually he walks to the door and opens it a crack to peek out at James.
“Really?” He asks quietly and James smiles and nods. “Well, why didn’t you just say that!” Regulus yells and flings the door open the rest of the way.
“Because your dramatic arse ran away before I could say anything and then I didn’t want to say it to a door.” James exclaims walking into the room.
“Well, you’re not on the other side of the door now.” Regulus continues to yell.
“No, I’m not.” James’ voice softens.
“So…?” Regulus puts his hands on his hips.
“So, what?” James wraps his arms around Regulus’ waist.
“James.” Regulus huffs.
“I love you, too, Regulus.” James smiles and leans down to capture Regulus in a soft, sweet kiss.

pastel - November 15th - jegulus - @stag-microfic - word count: 300
Regulus was not a morning person. He loved the peacefulness and quiet of nights, the way the Earth seemed to still as the sun went down. It made him feel calm and contemplative and almost positive.
Any time before 9am, he felt murdrous.
He was also very clear about that with everyone he met. So he was very confused as to why James Potter was waking him at a 5am on a Saturday.
"Reg! Wake up!"
It was only the third time Regulus had slept in James's dorm. The first time since they'd confessed to Sirius about their relationship. They'd fallen asleep blissfully happy, curled into each other's arms, and Regulus had been quite sure he would be with James Potter forever.
So it was sad, now, that he would have to kill him for this.
"You better be dying," he mumbled, opening one eye a crack to see James standing next to the bed, blanket wrapped around his shoulders.
"No..." James answered, looking a bit put out. "No, I just really want to show you...please?"
And Regulus must have gone soft, because James's excited voice and his hopeful look made him actually get out of bed, even at the atrocious hour. "Alright, what is it?" he asked, trying to keep his voice even.
Smiling, James grabbed his hand and led him to the huge window.
Immediately, Regulus understood.
Outside was the most beautiful sunrise Regulus had ever seen. Pastel pinks and oranges blended into yellows and blues, lighting the sky in a rainbow of colors.
"I just....it was so gorgeous. I wanted to show it to someone gorgeous, you know?" James asked, biting his lip with nerves as he waited for Regulus's reaction.
Wordlessly, Regulus pressed his lips to James's happiness pouring out of him in waves.
"Thank you."

younger
541 words, jegulus
His brother’s best friend treated him like a younger brother too. It was annoying, because Regulus already had one older brother whom he’d never even asked for in the first place. (Because when he was born, did he ever get the choice of the family he was born to? No.) He already had Sirius, and now James was teasing him in corridors and offering him left-over snacks and ruffling his hair as if they were also brothers, just because Sirius considered he and James to be brothers even when they weren’t related! Regulus was Sirius’s actual brother, and James was Sirius’s fake brother, which clearly meant that Regulus and James weren’t brothers! They didn’t even have to be friends.
It was awful, the way James would coo, “Aw, look at your little baby face!” when Regulus was only one year younger than him. Or he’d roll his eyes, “You wouldn’t understand, you’re too young,” and Regulus would fume internally, knocking over chairs within the room that was his body, raging about the way James Potter thought Regulus was his younger brother. It was disgusting.
Why did James have to so clearly clarify to Regulus, “I think of you in the same way that I’d think of anyone younger than me, you’re my responsibility,” and then he’d laugh too hard, and Regulus would think why? Did James have a hero complex? He always seemed to be reminding Regulus, “You’re younger than me,” even though they were both very aware of that fact.
What if Regulus was the same age as James? Would that make him act more normal? Regulus didn’t get it, and he got a lot of things, so this really irritated him: the fact that he couldn’t understand why it was such a big deal to James that they had an age difference of one year. He was fifteen, James was sixteen, what was the problem?
It was weird, to think that James would think of him as a younger brother. That felt like crossing a line somewhere in his mind, tangling thoughts that should never be tangled. Loud and clear, he wanted to yell at James, We’re not brothers! That would be weird, so why was James making things weird?
There were too many questions, and Regulus had no answers. All he knew was that the idea of James thinking of him as a younger brother twisted his gut in the most awkward way, made it push into his stomach like an unwanted invasion, like the blade of a knife twisting into him before freezing in place like an icicle, it was cold, the way James thought of him as an immature kid, it was swallowing ice cubes that turned his organs blue, it was injecting nitrogen into his veins and watching his blood bubble, hissing and steaming as warmth met glacial cold and evaporated away from him, he’d be bloodless, and James would think of him as a newborn baby, “Welcome to this world, Reggie!”
If that happened, it would drive an icepick through Regulus’s vocal cords and render him silent. James thought of him as a younger brother, and Regulus thought of James as… no one. No one, therefore James would never be able to affect him.

Prompt: Dare (@into-the-jeggyverse) | Pairing: Jegulus | Word Count: 607
There weren’t many rules involved when playing Truth or Dare, but one of rules Regulus and his friends abided by was that dares involving people not involved in their game had to be completed with in the week. Regulus had been sitting on his dare for a week, and today was the day he would have to complete by dare or face the consequences.
It wasn’t as if the dare was particularly difficult. ‘Kiss James Potter…’ That part was easy considering they were dating and had snogged countless times. It was when Barty added the ‘in front of Sirius’ part that the dare became more difficult to carry out.
Sirius was blissfully unaware his best friend was sneaking around with his little brother. While James was ready to tell Sirius, Regulus was too fearful. Things between the Black brothers weren’t the best. They barely spoke to each other in the last year, although sometimes they held staring contests. Regulus would look at Sirius, catch his eye, and they would just stare until one of them looked away. James told Regulus that Sirius loved him and wanted to talk to him, but Regulus didn’t believe that. No matter how many staring contests they held, it would never replace the look of disappointment and disgust Sirius’ directed at him the night he left.
“Time’s ticking.” Barty reminded Regulus with an amused grin. “You should’ve told pretty boy.”
“I’m aware.” On both accounts. Regulus didn’t tell James of the dare because he was hoping it would somehow go away. But like most of his problems he couldn’t avoid them in hopes that thing would just fade until they no longer existed. “I’m going.”
“You’re doing it now?” his friend snorted, looking around the Great Hall as Regulus got up from the Slytherin table. “I said in front of Black, not the entire school, but by all means. I’ll enjoy the show.” Leave it to Regulus to be overdramatic and cause a scene. The Blacks were famous for it; either do it up big or do nothing at all.
Despite his heart hammering in his chest, Regulus strolled leisurely to the Gryffindor table. He only stopped once he was behind James, reaching out to tap his shoulder. The Marauders fell silent when they noticed Regulus presence, James turning to face him and a slow smile forming on his lips but his eyes showing just how concerned he was. Regulus has never approached him publicly.
“Regulus.” It was Sirius who spoke first, sitting across from James and unbeknownst to him, having the best seat in the house for what was about to come.
Regulus ignored Sirius and the way his stomach dropped and his face heat up in an embarrassing blush. He felt like he was going to throw up and that would not be a very attractive scene.
“Are you alright?” James stood up from where he was sitting, reaching out for Regulus but stopping himself. His arms fell back to his side, fingers curling around nothing.
Somehow Regulus found his voice, his eyes locking with James. “I’m fine, Potter. Better than, I’m spectacular.”
Before James could tell Regulus, he was not, in fact, spectacular, Regulus found a burst of confidence. He reached for James’ tie, wrapping his pale fingers around the red and gold fabric before pulling James in. Their lips met in a chaste kiss but neither pulled away. Once James got over his initial surprise, he laughed happily against Regulus’ mouth causing the younger to relax as he felt James’ hand curl around his hip to pull him in closer as if no one, namely Sirius, was watching.

@croptopjames happy birthday to the one and only jfp <3
jegulus | 933 words | trans reg & themes of gender identity and transition
Regulus felt his cheeks heat up as he snapped out of his daze and met James' eyes. He was wearing a knowing look, "Oh, I'm definitely keeping this," James declared, his smirk widening. "Especially if it gets this kind of reaction from you every time."
Regulus’ room was a disaster. James had finally coaxed him into sorting through his old clothes, only managing after he bribed him with promises of kisses and takeout afterwards. The closet had all but exploded, leaving piles of clothes scattered all across the room. With ‘yes’s,’ and ‘no’s,’ and ‘maybes’ occupying every available flat surface, Regulus was sure he hadn't seen the darkened wood of his floor in hours.
Sat on his bed, he watched as James dug through his dresser for another shirt. He let out a thoughtful hum as he grabbed two, throwing one over his shoulder and holding up the other: an awful plum-colored blouse. His mother had bought it for him—form-fitting, smothered in ruffles, and, in her words, “the perfect blouse for a sophisticated young woman.”
Regulus thought it was the ugliest fucking shirt he had ever seen.
“Ugh,” Regulus wrinkled his nose in distaste. “Absolutely not, that thing is a monstrosity.”
James barked out a laugh, amused at the disgust evident on Regulus' face, before flinging the shirt into the rapidly growing ‘no’ pile. He grabbed at the one resting on his shoulder.
“And this one?”
It was worn, fabric soft from years of wear. The dark green and gray had dulled, now just muted shadows of their original hues. The words printed on the front, cracked and creased, read ‘Hogwarts Women's Rowing’. It had been his favorite shirt for a long time. His parents had always been on him to join something– a club, a team, an honor society. If he was honest, he only chose rowing because it kept him out of the house the longest.
And he's so grateful he did, because it brought him Pandora. He suffered through early morning rows and long race days, soreness in his body and blisters on his hands. But every discomfort was worth it for the times he and Pandora would steal an extra hour to lie in the sun by the Great Lake, laughing until their bellies felt as sore as their arms. Worth it for the times Evan would cram them into his shitty jeep and drive them to their races so they didn't have to take the bus. Worth it, most of all, for giving him the first people with whom he could be honest—really, truly honest.
"I don't want to get rid of it," Regulus admitted, a hint of reluctance in his voice. "It was my favorite, but—I’m not ready to wear anything that might make people mistake me for a woman. Not for a while, at least.”
James nodded. He turned the shirt around, head tilting slightly as he considered it. “How about I hold onto it for you? That way it's not gone, just... repurposed.” He looked up at Regulus with a wicked grin. “I bet I could pull it off.”
Regulus couldn’t help but scoff as James began to pull on the shirt. “I’d like to see you try," he challenged, amusement evident in his voice.
But as James stretched out his arms and did a little spin, Regulus wasn't laughing. Instead, he felt his heart swoop. A familiar mixture of fondness and arousal swirled in his gut at the sight of James. Glasses knocked a little lopsided from pulling the shirt on, pajama pants hanging low on his hips and socked feet– it was a picture that made Regulus go warm with affection. But, it was the shirt that really kept his attention. Visibly too small, the letters strained as they stretched across the width of his chest. The hem of it hitting right below his navel, exposing his hip bones and the trail of hair leading down from his belly button. Regulus felt all the breath leave his chest. “C'mere,” he said softly.
James shuffled over to him. “Good?” He asked, a hint of uncertainty in his tone.
Regulus shook his head, he was in awe of James. “Better than good. It suits you much better than it ever did me,” he mumbled, voice low and distracted. Reaching out to place his hands on James' waist, he absentmindedly dragged his thumbs back and forth over his hipbones, eyes stuck to the sliver of skin peeking out from beneath the shirt.
“My eyes are up here, love,” James gently teased, his voice laced with amusement.
Regulus felt his cheeks heat up as he snapped out of his daze and met James' eyes. He was wearing a knowing look, "Oh, I'm definitely keeping this," James declared, his smirk widening. "Especially if it gets this kind of reaction from you every time."
“I lied,” Regulus deadpanned, “you actually look ridiculous.” But his face was betraying him, unable to fight the smile spreading across it.
James hummed in response, the smugness in his tone unmistakable. He was clearly enjoying every moment of this.
"Oh, shut up," Regulus groaned playfully, his hands gripping the exposed skin at his waist to pull him down. James yelped in surprise before their lips were meeting in a kiss filled more with laughter than anything else. But then James was deepening it, and Regulus let himself be kissed breathless. After a moment, he gently pulled back, hand tenderly stroking through James’ hair.
"Thank you," he whispered, his hand tracing a path down James' neck, over his shoulder, and along the length of his arm until their fingers intertwined. "For being here, for—everything. Everything that you do for me."
James responded with a gentle squeeze of their hands, his eyes meeting Regulus’. "Always, love." His voice was soft but firm in promise. And there it was again, his heart swooping in his chest as James pressed a kiss to his temple. "Always."
