ok, so, there’s ~36 people all doing it concurrently, which is a lot. But! Here is the list of players, if you know someone you like on that list pick them and just watch sequentially day 1->finale. if you don’t know Anyone on there and you want a point to start at for just. Getting most of the plot, pick someone from A B or C. Or E. Team F has a really great plot but they stay a bit out of the overarching plot until the last weeks, and I haven’t gotten to team D yet so I don’t know what they know im sorry team d 🥺

Many of the players have VOD channels up on YouTube or playlists of balloon vods specifically, lots of people who don’t have the streams in their twitch archives somewhere (like, “past broadcasts” usually), look for player vod channels. Some don’t have saved archives and some didn’t stream it! I know for certain sophie robby skull kuu gibson buggle and jame have up to date vod channels because I’ve seen them… woops and skullvolver are making edited videos rn but theyre Both team a… and im not sure who else is planning on it!

tldr, pick someone and watch them in order and peek in on other peoples’ vods from time to time when something Happens because sometimes seeing it from another angle is cool. Also, sometimes seeing it from another angle is Important because there’s Lore no one else got to see. Search “playername vods” on YouTube and it should direct you to the right place.

Something I've been thinking about is how Patrick O'Brian manages so skillfully to write characters whose actions contradict their beliefs, which I think is honestly a big part of why his characters feel so real. Mostly with Stephen and Jack—e.g., and perhaps most notably, Stephen has notably leftist sympathies (honestly I have no idea how to characterize his politics in period terms) who nonetheless becomes very comfortable with his rise to the landed gentry, while Jack is a card-carrying Tory who much of the time sympathizes far more with working class sailors and farmers than with the upper classes—but I'm sure he does it to a lesser degree with some of his minor characters (James Dillon, while perhaps not precisely minor, comes to mind), and I love that he's able to do that, especially the way in which he embeds it in the narrative. We see how they're all unreliable narrators of themselves; we understand how they want to be seen and how that does and doesn't coincide with the reality, but most importantly, this isn't presented as something reprehensible, just as a part of their own humanity. They are not their expectations for themselves, but they don't need to be those expectations to be beloved.

mary makes puppy eyes to get what she wants (it actually works, somehow (especially on lily, and mostly on lily, actually))

peter has really warm and soft hands, and people always want to hold his hand for this reason. he also does that soothing thumb rubbing thing

sirius knows how to play the harp, and played it when he was younger, but he never actually used that skill later in life

the sorting hat actually considered putting dorcas in ravenclaw, but ultimately decided on slytherin because of her cunningness

He had zero power to expel or academically punish anyone. At least the people James messed with had the chance to fuck with him back. During Snape's worst memory, Snape literally casts a spell that cuts James across the cheek. He wasn't some helpless victim.

And before anyone comes for me, I'm NOT saying it's okay to bully people or anything like that. But if you look at a 15 year old boy bullying another 15 year old boy and look at a literal teacher who bullies kids 20 years younger than him and decide that the boy is an irredeemable asshole while the teacher isn't, you're insane.

I really don’t think we talk enough about how much Sir John by virtue of being the symbol of (british) empire, intrudes and encroaches on everybody so much. Literally takes me aback every single time I watch the Terror.

He always treats Francis as a subordinate, even on his own ship. He takes the head of the table (when it should be Francis’), he leads every interaction with Francis with superiority- always subordinates him even when he’s trying (so SO fucking poorly) to apologize for them getting iced in. He dictates the menu. He poaches even from JFJ for his journal. He just takes and takes and takes- and is it any wonder Francis resented him so much considering how much of it is absolutely related to the fact that he’s Irish? To the very thing that likely has put him in a subordinate position with most of the navy for most of his life? Something that shouldn’t continue considering his accomplishments and tenure as a captain? It’s absolutely vile.

Every day he moves closer to the tide, like it’s calling to him somehow. He’s never been very attached to it before. He can’t even remember the last time he went to a beach, it had to be when he was a child; before all this happened. He hears the tide like a prophecy of sorts though he’s not sure what it’s saying. He’s not sure he’ll ever know.  He knows Regulus is looking out at him from the kitchen window. He can almost feel his eyes on him. Regulus hates it when he comes out here when he’s asleep. James won’t do anything. He’s tired. He’s not going to do anything other than sit here. Regulus never tells him to stop, James knows he won’t. If he asked him about it Regulus would deny it though. He doesn’t want James to think he’s living in an asylum. Regulus doesn’t want him to think he thinks he’s crazy. Either way, it doesn’t matter. Sometimes James already thinks he’s crazy. It’s just taken this long for everyone else to catch up. He doesn’t know how to control his own mind, it’s all out to get him. It’s not the fame that’s doing this to him, and he swears there’s someone with a telescope on the next beach over, looking at him. He looks at the ocean. He hears it call his name. He sits still, drawing shapes in the sand.
