#ALSO Bruce always kept his door open for Jason in the past and Jason did the same for Damian

Damian wakes up, startled. He doesn't remember what he saw in his dreams, and he is not sure what caused him to feel so anxious, but he knows what to do. The routine is easy and comforting; he just needs to find his brother Jason. So, he goes.
His bare feet against the cold floor is soundless, making no sound, and he keeps rubbing his eyes until he sees one of the doors open. It must be Jason. He always keeps the door of his room open, just in case.
There is a dim light in the room, a small lamp on the desk, where the stakes of paper are stored, and Jason is here, as tall and huge as always, tapping on his feet in an attempt to concentrate, while twirling a pen between his fingers. He is either reading or working on something else: writes down memories, afraid of them slipping away due to the Lazarus Pit hammering in his temples all the time.
Damian yawns and steps closer, tapping on his back.
'Akhi Jason,' he calls hoarsely. The body freezes, almost surprised — he is not supposed to; Jason hears him from the corridor, even if he is the most soundless kid in the whole world. 'I want to sleep.'
He never says he sees nightmares or that he is scared — just that. It always works.
Expect, this time it doesn't.
'What did you say?' Brother asks, his voice sounding so unusually stiff.
'Jason,' he repeats, more irritated this time. 'I said, I want to—'
When Jason turns around, Damian instinctively staggers back, his eyes widening.
The man in front of him is not Jason.
And for a second, Damian is panicking, until-
Until he doesn't remind himself that he is not home anymore. He is in the Wayne Manor, with his father.
With his father that looks exactly like his brother, only older, without scars, marring his face, and without a white streak that makes him look like a bird.
'Damian,' his father calls, slightly shaken. 'How do you know Jason?'
He swallows down. He is not supposed to tell about his brother. They instructed him not to.
But father has a familiar desperation in his eyes, the same one Jason had, when he was pacing around the room, muttering something incoherent, the cut out from newsletters photos of Bruce Wayne with Tim Drake in his hands, and-
And Damian shrugs.
'He is my brother,' he says, almost too innocently; because if he is going to be clueless about it, then what others will have to tell him? 'He stayed with a grandfather. It is a shame.'
Almost as if he doesn't understand what all of this implies.
'I was sleepy,' he adds. 'And got confused. My apologises, father. I shall return to my bedroom.'
Bruce stares, stares, and stares. And then, rubs his face with his hands, exhausted.
'I'll tuck you in. Let's go,' and a second later, with his voice sounding so familiarly small, just like how Jason's sounded when he first acknowledged him as his brother, he adds: 'Can you tell me more about your brother, Damian?'
And Damian tells him, of course.
He is not surprised to see the result of his work the next week.
#someone once said Damian wasn't impressed by how big and tall his father is because he was growing up with Jason lurking around#and i run with it#i shamelessly love just how much Bruce and Jason can look alike#it is an important tool for angst.#and sometimes for fluff and humour#ALSO Bruce always kept his door open for Jason in the past and Jason did the same for Damian#i was also trying to subtly show that they have the same habits (tapping foot & twirling pens)#and that's why Damian didn't notice anything strange#jason todd#red hood#dcu comics#dc universe#dcu#batman#batfamily#bruce wayne#batfam#damian wayne

Cardinal Sins Chapter 1
𓅪 Living with your vigilante boyfriends for the past year has been amazing, well, almost. Butting heads, old wounds resurfacing and a deadly threat still looming overhead could threaten the sanctity of everything you've ever fought for. Will you finally overcome your tainted past and survive the trials and tribulations, or will your relationships and your faith crumble under the pressure?
Rated: M | 6.5k fem!Reader x Jason Todd x Roy Harper [masterlist] Previous in Series: Art of Rehabilitating Snowbirds
Chapter One: Everybody Wants to Rule the World
It’s only been mere hours since Bruce had handed you three sets of keys.
You’d met him in the lobby of your current place after you got a random text that he was in the neighborhood.
“The keys activate the elevator,” he said as he dangled a set of gold keys in front of you before handing the rest over. “These act as keys to your new place.”
“Mine?” you questioned with a raised brow.
Time has really flown.
You, Roy and Jason had been dating for a year now and your lease at your old apartment was coming to an end next week.
Bruce smiled, patting you on the shoulder. “The lease is in your name,” he revealed.
“That’s too much!” you exclaimed. You shook your head, making to give back the keys but he simply refused the action with a chuckle.
“You’re practically one of my own.” Your heart thrummed in disbelief at Bruce’s reassurance. “It’s the least I can do, seeing as I own the place and all.” You didn’t know why, but you though you saw a twinge of pride in his eyes. “Alfred’s cooking a Sunday roast for the family,” Bruce said before opening the lobby door. He began to walk backward out of the building, facing you all the while. “The four of you should stop by the manor once you get settled in. The movers should already have new furniture all set up, so it’s just a matter of unpacking.”
Ever since freshman year of high school, you’d found your life intertwined with everyone who’s stepped foot in that manor.
Damian had taken you in as a stray within your first week at Gotham Academy. Soon so did Tim, your lockermate and Stephanie, his on-again off-again girlfriend. After that, you were over at the manor daily and spending the night nearly every night of the week.
Jason had been unexpected, having quite literally crashed into your life. After him, Roy had been an easy addition; that is, as soon as you got through Jason’s prickly exterior. They were both a little over two years older than you, but it hadn’t stopped you from chasing after them.
When Jason and Roy had disappeared before their graduation, you hadn’t realized you wouldn’t hear from them for another 5 years. That’s right- it wasn’t until nearly two years ago that they finally reached out to reveal what had kept them from you for so long. Though, it hadn’t actually been that easy because, well, Jason and Roy are also Red Hood and Arsenal.
You showed up at their apartment door to find Roy with a bionic arm and a kid and only much later did you figure out their secret identities.
Soon after they reappeared in your life, your parents did as well. Them and a barrage of Gotham’s finest criminals, which ultimately ended in a dockyard fight with you and the entire Bat Family.
“Sounds good,” you reply, waving him goodbye with a smile as he saunters away with his Bruce Wayne persona. “Thank you for everything, Bruce!”
At his name, flocks of people turned around and began to pull out their phones. He’d turned around to shoot you an annoyed, yet obviously mirthful look at the fact that you’d started a media frenzy.
You stood there a moment longer, watching as he avoided questions with grace before disappearing into his flashy Lamborghini with a small wave back.
Now, here you are piled into a fancy elevator with Jason, Roy, Lian and a shit ton of boxes.
“Old man never gave me shit,” Jason grumbles as he turns the key in the penthouse slot.
You were surprised by the generosity as well.
You’ve always considered Bruce a father figure ever since he stepped in to help you fight, well, your actual father. That dockyard battle for example??? Yeah, that shit had all been organized by your biological parents.
Ever since your conception, it had been planned that you would be Gotham’s reckoning.
Your parents had created a trust fund for Gotham’s criminals to funnel money, meaning your death had been planned from the start. All the while, you were to be used as a lab rat for the Joker’s experiments, which were to then be used on the organization’s enemies.
Picture this: 15 years old, wearing a ballgown your mother had stolen to the Wayne Gala only to get beaten and injected by the Joker and his goons. Now, picture 20 years old, surrounded by your found family while your actual family tried to murder you for the
Talk about trauma, right?
Lian giggles at Jason’s curse, leaving Roy to glare in the raven’s direction.
“Oh, so the safehouses he paid for don’t count now, Jay?” Roy asks playfully. In response, Jason merely glares at him, undoubtedly saving Lian’s ears from any further cursing.
Recently, Lian’s taken to repeating everything. Literally everything. From the weather report, to Titus’ barks, to curses and anything and everything she hears from her superhero cartoons, she repeats it all.
You can’t help but feel stuck on what Bruce said when he’d handed you the keys.
“He said I was ‘practically one of his own,’” you relay to them, eyebrows furrowing in confusion as you look to Jason for an answer.
“Told you,” Roy mutters under his breath, seemingly to no one and everyone at the same time.
Ever since your biological family had given you up, you’d felt misplaced and unwanted. Yes, you had Jason, Roy and Lian, but you wanted a parental figure, something you’d never had. Part of you was starting to feel like Bruce was that, but you could never be too sure. The man kept his cards close and his emotions closer- practically the paragon of a closed book.
“I do, you know,” you trail off self-consciously, rubbing at your forearm for comfort, “view him as a father figure.” You’re not sure who chokes first, but both of them immediately begin coughing. “I mean, like, in the least weirdest way possible!” you attempt to rectify your statement, but it’s too late. Your cards are on the table.
You see, while Jason isn’t biologically related to Bruce and neither are you, you both see him as a father, which does tend to make things… odd.
“Well,” he drawls, “that didn’t sound grammatically correct in the slightest.”
Of course he’d deflect.
You let out an annoyed sigh, “Fuck you.”
So, the honeymoon period is definitely a thing.
For real.
Not that it wasn’t currently still going on, nor do you doubt the feeling will ever truly wane with two men like Jason and Roy. All you’re saying is that cracks in the relationship and points of contention have been becoming more obvious. You tell yourself that it’s only natural this happens, though you’re not entirely sure since this is your first long-term relationship.
One point of contention being: Jason dodging any and every serious conversation.
Example: right now.
Even Roy, who seems to rely on humor to get out of tough situations can sit down and talk it through. Jason, on the other hand? He needs a lot of coaxing and it’s not the way you roll.
“Hey,” Roy rubs your shoulder with his bionic arm before the two of you can start squabbling, “we’re just glad you have family and to be your family. Technicalities and all.” He gives your shoulder a light squeeze as the elevator comes to a halt.
The doors open to reveal a penthouse not even Damian could dream of.
“Holy shi-!” Roy starts. However, Jason’s elbow to the chest prevents Roy from finishing the curse, though Lian already has it memorized.
“Oh, shit!” she squeals as she breaks into a run. She manages to dodge Jason and Roy’s attempts to collect her and calm her down by squirming and ducking under all the new, read: expensive, furniture.
“Looks like the latest edition of Architectural Digest in here,” you whistle lowly as you take in the expansive room with wall-to-floor windows.
Roy’s too busy following after Lian, grabbing falling lamps and vases that she’s run into to respond.
Jason still seems stuck on your irritation in the elevator, but, as usual, he says nothing. All you want is validation from him that you belong in his family, yet he refuses to give it to you and you can’t pinpoint why.
“Since when have you read that shit?” Jason asks, sounding dubious.
You know moving’s hard, so you take it easy on him.
For now.
“It’s called manifestation, whore.”
It’s at this exact moment, of course, that Lian sprints into the main living room with an attached kitchen and dining room.
“S’called manifestation, roar!” Lian screeches with a devilish smile.
“Oh, thank fuck she heard that wrong,” Roy groans before hurriedly running past you and Jason, who are still stationed in the entryway.
“Oh, thank fuck!” she giggles maniacally as she crawls out from under the couch and makes her way back over toward you and her daddy.
As she’s passing, you reach down, catching Lian in your arms. She attempts to keep running even in your strong grasp but eventually tires out like a wind-up toy reaching the end of its winding.
Eventually, she settles down for a nap in her new lily pad styled bed. The whole room looked straight out of Princess and the Frog with dreamy shades of green, purple, pink and blue scattered throughout. To complete the dreamy look, tiny pixie lights were strung up and cascaded their twinkling glow down the walls.
While she’s conked out, you, Jason and Roy set to work on unpacking the few boxes you’ve brought. It doesn’t even take two hours, but it’s enough to leave you exhausted.
You plop down to your new sectional with a tired huff.
Jason and Roy are in the same boat.
Jason groans as soon as his body hits the couch, “God, I can’t wait to not fucking do anything.” He closes his eyes and rubs at the bridge between them. “We’re staying on this couch and ordering pizza.”
“Pizza,” Roy tiredly agrees from next to you. “Definitely pizza.”
“I forgot to mention,” you clear your throat, catching both of your boyfriend’s attention as you do, “we’ve got dinner at the manor.”
•••
When you get to the manor, everyone’s already mulling about, laughing as they help Alfred set the table.
Once you’ve greeted everyone and handed Lian off to Dick and Wally, everyone helps themselves to a plate from the kitchen and takes a seat.
It’s truly a full house with your family of four and Bruce and Alfred, of course. Dick brought along his fiancé Wally, while Damian seemed to have a similar idea as Jon is also milling about in the kitchen. Barbra’s here, but what you can’t figure out is why Tim and Stephanie seem to have both brought Conner Kent to dinner.
You vaguely remember him from the college party all those years ago, but since when had either of them been that close to Connor? As far as you’d heard, Tim and Stephanie had been official ever since the dockyard battle, soooo what the fuck is Kent doing at Sunday dinner? Everyone seems to be thinking the same thing, but with him being a half-blooded Kryptonian and all, no one raises the question.
“You wanna talk embarrassing?” Dick scoffs. “Wally, over here, decided last Hanukkah,” Wally groans, shaking his head in his hand, “that it’d be a good idea to do a ‘Secret Santa’ for it.”
“Dick, dude, do you even know the definition of embarrassing?” Roy goes into a whole reenactment of the coffee shop debacle, back before you knew about them being heroes. By the time Roy gets to the main part of the story, nearly everyone’s in tears. “And then she smashed a toilet lid over his head, swear,” Roy has to catch his breath, “funniest shit I’ve ever seen in my life. Jay went down like a ton of bricks and the whole time I had to stay in character.”
Where Dick, Babs and Steph are doubled over laughing, Jason looks like he’s already planning where to hide your other boyfriend’s body.
Damian tchs, “Pathetic, Todd. You allowed an untrained girl to disarm you so easily?”
“You,” Jason brushes him off easily, “you, I don’t want to hear from.”
“Refusing to hear the truth?” Damian scoffs. “Even more pathetic than I thought.”
Connor looks around the room, gauging everyone else’s reactions, though everyone’s already used to their constant bickering.
“No one likes you, pipsqueak,” Jason sneers like the true older brother he is.
“I like him,” Jon pipes up, smiling sheepishly when Jason’s heavy glare falls upon him from across the table. “But you are being a bit over the top, Dami. You should apologize.”
You’re pretty sure, no, you know it’s Dick who ‘coos' at their interaction and you can’t help but agree.
Jason’s glare drops as he, instead, nods approvingly Jon’s way.
Throughout your friendship, you and Damian had been in a tangled web of miscommunications, hormones, and wrong-doings. Once Jason and Roy came back for good, you knew you and Damian were meant to remain friends. Damian and Jon, on the other hand? They’re definitely made for each other.
Damian, honest to god, pouts at his boyfriend before turning back to sneer at yours.
“Todd,” his voice rumbles lowly.
“Brat?” Jason’s smirking now.
Damian mutters some unkind words under his breath he’s lucky Alfred’s too old to hear before continuing, “I apologize. It appears I’ve taken things too far, though your skills still are very much questionable to me.”
Jason huffs, “Whatever.”
The subject quickly shifts.
"So, the three of you are official, then?" Bruce asks. His tone is perfectly even as if he's just genuinely wanting to know, if not to understand Jason better, but Jason doesn't see it this way.
The raven straightens in his seat, puffing out his chest in preparation for the conversation as he does so. "Yup," he responds tersely.
"So, you're poly," Bruce says as more of a statement than a question.
"Still bi," Jason says as he slowly sips his water. He’s pointedly staring his father down as a silent warning to fuck with him and find out.
Bruce's brows furrow in light confusion. "But you're in a polyamorous relationship." Again, his tone is genuinely curious, not accusatory, but Jason is always used to being on the defense around the man.
"Half my life, I’ve seen you show up with multiple women on your arms, Bruce. You really didn’t think that’d rub off on at least one of us?" Jason smirks as if begging Bruce to tell him he's wrong. "Fact of the matter is, it doesn’t make me any less bi, just like how that didn’t make you any less straight."
Bruce nods pensively, "I see."
Jason looks genuinely surprised that it didn't devolve into one of their usual petty arguments. He nods back, thus officially ending the conversation, or dare you call it, a genuine bonding moment between the two.
Tim waits a moment for the chatter that follows to die down a bit before he brings up what everyone’s been dancing around.
“I’m sure you’ve all heard the rumors that, uh,” Tim shoots an uncomfortable look at you and Jason, “Joker’s back. A few of my sources say if he hasn’t broken out already, he will soon.”
You watch as Jason’s fists clench under the table, noting how Roy’s hand immediately chases after to soothe it.
Dick shakes his head before reassuring, “He’s as good as locked up. Bruce, Damian and I checked out Arkham last week. He hasn’t moved since they put him in there after his Thanksgiving bombing.”
Tim still seems unconvinced, however. “He’s still making moves, then.”
“Do you want him to escape, Tim?” Jason sneers. “Because that’s what it’s sounding like.”
Connor bristles, though Stephanie’s gentle hand on his shoulder has him backing down immediately. Your brow raises, thinking back to Roy’s similar gesture with Jason just moments ago.
Jon looks as completely bewildered as Conner does as they observe the Bat Family semantics. Meanwhile, Wally and Roy look like they want to step in but, ultimately, don’t want to get involved in family drama. For Barbra and Stephanie, this is all just another Sunday.
“Master Jason,” Alfred’s wise timbre stirs from the end of the table not occupied by Bruce, “Master Damian. Is it too much to ask for just one civil dinner?”
“Sorry, Alfred,” they both grumble in unison.
Soon, everyone begins catching up once again.
Alfred cuts Lian’s roast for her at the same time Roy cuts her potatoes, Jon keeps leaning over to whisper things to Damian that draw a small smile. Dick, Wally and Roy reminisce about the Titans, eventually going over their wedding plans with Barbra and Stephanie’s excited input, while Tim and Jon argue horror movies with Jason and Connor.
And there Bruce sits, all the way at the end, hands clasped as he watches it all.
Your stomach is warm, filled with the inexplicable feeling of love in the room.
You listen in on it all with a huge grin that’s been present on your face ever since you arrived. You go to drink your water when, suddenly, your hand falters.
One moment, you’re there in Wayne Manor at the dinner table with your family and now you’re….
You look around, watching as groups of men swarm a truck. A group of two men presents you with a box, which, when opened, reveals a stem.
You blink.
Suddenly, you see people in some kind of uniform running all around you. When you look to the right of you, you want to stumble back, but your body only continues to run.
Joker?
You must’ve been out of it for a while because, when you come to, you’re left with 13 pairs of concerned eyes on you.
“Uh,” Stephanie chucks a potato from her fork from across the table at you, “are you having a "That’s So Raven" moment, or are you and the dickwad’s using a remote-controlled vibrator?” You shake your head, mind still clearly picturing what you’d just seen. Stephanie’s words, however, go unnoticed. Suddenly, you hear her saying your name, “You good?”
You blink.
You’re back in the manor, back at the dinner table, but your mind is clearly elsewhere.
“What?” you ask, looking around the table at everyone’s concerned faces.
Jason’s brows are furrowed in a silent question of ‘are you okay,’ while Roy’s hand rubs gently at your back.
Are you okay?
You clear your throat and force a smile you know won’t pass in a room full of detectives, but, hey, what can you do?
The last time you had a vision that intense had been…
Your brain screams with a sting of sharp pain that leaves you clutching the tablecloth for relief.
In the dockyard, Joker had injected you with two syringes. Immediately following the initial toxin, you’d been met with a vision right as the Joker made his escape in the helicopter. Though you’ve tried hard to remember what you’d seen in the past year, for some reason, it had never been clear until now.
Joker’s hands, the glaring lights of the city below, the scrawny man beside him…
“Yeah,” you clear your throat again as you force another smile. “Acid reflux,” you shrug to solidify your false excuse.
The table’s conversation slowly stirs again, though Jason and Roy’s eyes never leave the side of your face. You’re not ready to meet their eye contact, knowing you won’t be able to meet their concern.
“So,” Bruce begins, “I’ve heard you’ve been somewhat involved in their operations for some time now. Have you thought about what your future involvement may look like?”
“What do you mean?”
Bruce takes a coy sip of water. “I mean, are you content with staying behind the screens? Or, is there a plan to eventually join them in the field?” he asks.
Point of contention #2: neither of your boyfriends ever wanted you involved in any confrontation.
Sure, behind the screens as ‘their own personal Oracle,’ as they called you, was fine. Anything else? Nope. No. Nada. They wouldn’t have it. Total double standard, but they’re too fogged in their love for you to care.
“Says the man who threw three kids into the field before they’d hit puberty.”
“Believe me,” Bruce says tonelessly, “you’d hit puberty, Jason.”
“Old enough to see through the bullshit, maybe,” Jason snaps back easily. “Dick was fucking 8, Bruce. Damian, 10. You don’t care about the logistics, let alone the safety. I do,” he glares at his father, “and I don’t want my family getting hurt.”
“Jay,” Dick frowns, making to put his hand on Jason’s for across the table, but Jason easily retracts his hand. “I love you and appreciate you, really, I do,” he puts his hand over his heart, “but I don’t need you to stick up for me. We’re all working on our issues; it takes time, but I know we’ll all eventually get there.”
Damian seethes quietly across from you, though you know it’s in defense of his father.
“Get there eventually?” Jason snorts, throwing out his hands dramatically. “I’m sitting here, a few years off of 30 and still fucking going through it. You think she needs to go through this contention, too?”
“She,” you start with purpose, “is not a child.” You reference his earlier rebuttal. “And she can stick up for myself! Uh, I mean, herself.” You shake your head in annoyance before starting over, “I’m a grown woman and I appreciate you wanting to look out for me, but that’s so hypocritical when you’re both going out every other night to do the very thing you don’t want me doing, isn’t it?”
It’s deadass quiet.
Like, you’ve never heard the manor so quiet with this many family members in it.
“Speaking for me,” Barbra’s sweet voice stirs slowly as if she’s picking and choosing her words carefully, “I went from Batgirl to Oracle, not the other way around like you.” You nod, interested in where she’s going with this. “Being Oracle has made me so much more aware of everything, regardless of physical training; being Oracle comes with its own set of skills none of you possess and that gives her an edge.” Your heart swells. “We’ve all seen her on the battlefield and seen how she can handle her own under pressure,” Barbara finishes.
“You’re a strong woman,” Stephanie concurs, saying your name as she does so.
“At the end of the day,” Roy finally speaks up from beside you. “What you’re all saying is true and we can’t stop her. It’s her decision and we’ll support her either way.”
An actual end to the contention?
Your head snaps over to catch Jason’s reaction, but he’s glaring at the painting behind Tim’s head.
“I guess we’ll just have to see how it goes,” Jason finally mutters. His teeth aren’t necessarily gritted, though it sure sounds like it.
No one speaks, there’s only the clinking of forks and Alfred’s low humming to occupy the large dining room.
“Well,” Bruce’s domineering voice suddenly captures the attention of everyone at the table in an instant, “if you’re going to be going on missions, you’ll need to have a suit.”
He gives you a pointed look that you can’t help but smile at.
“I...” you trail off, looking down at the mahogany dining table. “I wouldn’t even know where to start.”
“I’ve got that part covered,” he says with a small, warm smile. “You’ve got an appointment with the new co-chair of the R&D department. Right, Damian?”
Damian glares from a few seats over, correcting his father, “Head.” No matter how old he gets, he never outgrows his signature scowl.
“Of course.” Though, Bruce’s correction goes largely ignored by his youngest son.
“Tomorrow, 10 o’clock sharp,” Damian’s eyes narrow your way, “don’t be late.”
•••
You arrive at 9:55 in the morning out of nerves and sheer excitement.
Jon’s already there to greet you with another man you’ve seen around at a few Chrismukkahs at the Manor. The raven is quick to explain that Damian got caught up in a meeting and introduces you to the gentleman in the suit.
“Meet Luke Fox,” Jon says. He stands a few inches taller than the darker gentleman in front of you, but he’s still quite a bit taller than you. “He co-chairs the department alongside Damian.”
The man in front of you offers a smooth smile and a firm handshake to match. “I know I’ve seen you at parties, but I don’t think we’ve ever been formally introduced,” Luke greets you.
You nod. “Definitely nice to finally put a name to the face.”
He then proceeds to give you a tour of the entire floor dedicated to R&D, though you haven’t been able to get one thing off your mind.
Luke seems to sense your staring and turns around to smirk. “What?” he asks.
“You said co-chair,” you say, leaving him to nod politely. Meanwhile, Jon seems to know exactly where your line of questioning is going. “Why is Damian the head?”
“Have you met the kid?” he responds. You and Jon both snort. Luke flashes his badge at a scanner on the wall before dragging the two of you through another long hallway. “My dad, Lucius Fox headed this department for decades before he was finally made CEO about three years ago,” Luke fills you in.
Suddenly, Jon cuts him off as a loud gust of sound affronts your ears.
“Woah!” Jon exclaims suddenly. He grabs your hand and pulls you over to one of the windows in the hallway. It looks into a lab where someone’s using a flamethrower to torch a small piece of odd-looking metal.
“This is the innovation section of the floor,” Luke explains. “Right now, they’re testing on something called Nth Metal.”
“Neat,” Jon says, sufficiently satisfied with his answer and finally allows your group to move along.
You fall back into step with Luke and Jon.
“So, when did you start at R&D?” you ask.
Luke scratches at the back of his head. “Probably around that same time,” he chuckles. His laugh is as charming as his professional disposition. “Damian and I seem to know what the other doesn’t, so it’s been good to have him around.” Luke leans in like he’s telling you a secret. “Well, that and I get paid more, but he doesn’t need to know that,” he confesses. You smile easily, failing to hide your laugh. It’s something Jon catches immediately and quirks a brow at, but Luke continues on like nothing happened, “Co-chair just means I can spend less time leading and more time nerding out.”
If you didn’t know any better, you’d think he was a Wayne heir right alongside Damian. Hell, you know Luke’s probably 10x more professional compared to Damian’s order-barking leadership style. With what Luke said, though, it seems like they’re a pretty functional team.
“Trust me, Luke,” Jon sidles up beside you like a coy cat. “This one knows all about nerding out.”
“Shut up,” you hiss, sending him an admonishing glare. He merely rolls his eyes, snickering all the while. “Besides, you know this is the nerdiest thing I’ve done in a while.”
Regardless of your previous warning, Jon takes it upon himself to catch Luke up on the past, oh, six years of your life? Well, as long as he’s known you for, that is, so Sophomore year and beyond.
You’re all rounding the corner to come face-to-face with a giant vaulted door, but Luke seems to move swiftly past it.
Too swiftly.
Your eyes narrow slightly, tuning out Jon’s excited chatter to catch every detail you can.
There’s a giant red ‘ACCESS LEVEL: 84T BADGE ONLY. TRESPASSERS WILL BE PROSECUTED,’ sign that takes up a majority of the door, but there’s a smaller print beneath it.
You quickly glance ahead. Luke and Jon are still just in front of you, but you’re clearly lagging. You shoot one more glance at their retreating forms before taking a look at the fine print.
‘All Rights Reserved Clean Energy Project, LLC.’
You shake your head, confused, but Luke seems content to get as far away from the door as possible.
“Ah,” Luke says a little too smoothly for someone who just rushed past a super-secret vault, “here we are.” He inputs a lengthy code, then scans his retina before the door finally budges to reveal the impressive space.
The design room is huge, yet somehow, there’s not an inch of free space. Mannequins and large rolls of fabric take up a majority of the space with the rest taken up by drawing boards and fancy-looking sewing machines.
“Not gonna lie,” Jon says, nudging you as he guides you further into the room, “Luke and I have kind of taken on this project by the horns, so I wanted to be here when you went over design ideas!” You look down at the table and begin shuffling through Damian’s sketches. He laughs when you shoot him a teasing brow, “No, I did not sketch those. You’ll never let me live down my drunken art skills from Damian’s penthouse party, will you?”
You snort, “It was so fucking bad, Jon.”
“Rude.” Jon bumps into you playfully. “Oh, wait! Go back a page,” he insists and you easily comply. “Okay, the body of this sketch,” he trails off as he searches through the pile. Luke easily hands him a sketch that compliments the previous pick. “Oh, for sure, with these ears.”
“So, you haven’t entirely figured out the final design yet?”
“Of course not!” Jon says at the same time Luke speaks up.
“Wouldn’t really be your suit if you didn’t actually have a say.”
You can’t argue with that logic.
With that, you peer over their shoulders at their mismatched collage, realizing that you don’t have any critiques. “Well, I like what the two of you have done so far, but what about functionality?”
“My thoughts exactly,” Luke agrees with a nod, stepping back from the table pensively. “What weapons would you be comfortable with?”
You think back to Jason’s advice. The one that’s rung clear in your head from the moment he’d said it.
“Nothing that I wouldn’t want used against me.”
Jon shoots Luke an inquisitive brow as if to ask if he has any ideas.
“I think we can work with that,” Luke says before he begins on a rough sketch. It’s obvious to you now that Damian was the most likely culprit behind the original drawings on the table.
For the next few minutes, you and Jon both chime in with ideas as Luke switches between erasing and drawing. When he’s finished, Jon nods excitedly. Once you give the thumbs up, Jon uses quickly arranges the final look.
“Okay,” Jon sets down the last paper with a wide grin. “What about this?”
“Honestly,” you squint down at the selection but are, ultimately, unable to put it all together, “Damian probably needs to sketch it out for me to fully see it.”
Before you can even finish your sentence, Damian’s signature deadpan scowl graces your line of sight.
“I heard my name,” Damian says, making his dramatic entrance as he sidles up beside the two of you. Jon ruins the entrance, however, by giving him a sweet peck on the lips that sends Damian into a brief state of shock. He blushes, obviously startled by the action and clears his throat before greeting you both by your last names to cover it up, “Glad to see you’re still punctual.”
“Glad to see you’re still not,” you tease easily.
He ignores you in favor of flipping through the selected pages. “Oh, good. You’ve both shown her the sketches.”
Jon nods excitedly and begins explaining the new design. You watch in amusement as they work together seamlessly to transfer the three of your ideas to paper via Damian’s hand.
After another hour of planning, you hold the final design in your hands.
Damian clears his throat, catching your attention, “I’ve been preoccupied with some other cases recently, but I wanted to get back into what happened last year.” You nod, feeling very much in the same boat. Jason and Roy seem eager to put it in the past, but you have the gnawing feeling no matter how much they try to bury it, the situation will resuscitate regardless. “Deadshot’s a good place to start. He might have a good lead that you can follow.”
Deadshot.
The same man who’d been sent to kill you not even a year ago.
“Great,” you trail off. Meanwhile, Damian seems like he’s biting his tongue. “What?”
He sighs, looking over at you with his hazel eyes for the first time since he’d greeted you, “You don’t have to do this, you know? It’s not fun and games being a hero; people die. Heroes die every day. That’s what you’re getting into when you put on the suit.” Damian’s staring deep into your soul, stealing your breath as he does so with the sheer intensity of it all. “This isn’t a comic. There is no next page, there is no second run and there is no do-over. This is real life,” your name is barely a whisper. “You already came so close last time…” he trails off. “Just be sure this is what you really want.”
Before you can open your mouth to defend yourself, Jon butts in.
“I just got my powers. I’ve been going out almost every night on patrol and I’ve never once heard this talk from you, so why are you giving it to her?” It’s not a jealousy thing, but rather Jon pointing out his hypocrisy. “You think that just because I’m half Kryptonian doesn’t mean all of that doesn’t apply to me, too?”
You glance appreciatively in Jon’s direction as Damian takes in his words.
Damian starts an apology, then trails off again, looking at Jon for confirmation on what to do next before finally giving in. “I apologize,” he finally manages. Damian’s briefly meets your eyes, then looks back at the design. “Do you have any questions?”
You smile lightly, accepting his apology easily. Luke, however, appears dumbfounded by words he’s obviously never heard from the Wayne heir. “How long do you think it’ll take?”
“You’ll have it sent to your new apartment before your next mission, trust me. Are you sure this is what you want?” Damian scans your face up and down.
Whether he means the suit, or the hero life, you don’t know. What you do know is that you’re ready for it all.
You look it over for a moment before asking, “Does it come in red?”
•••
You want that lead.
You text in your group chat with Jason and Roy about Deadshot as soon as you get out of Wayne Tower.
Jason responds instantly, ‘Meet us at the park.’
The park wasn’t an unusual place to meet.
You try to go on walks and let Lian run around the playground there every day if you can, seeing as it’s just a block away from the old apartment. Now, it’s a bit more of a trek to get to, but it’s well worth it.
When you arrive, you’re expecting to see Jason, Roy and Lian. What you’re definitely not expecting to see is Deadshot. You don’t see Jason or Roy anywhere, so you immediately take up a defensive stance.
“Still got that spark, eh, kid?” Deadshot smiles placatingly at you and steps aside to reveal Red Hood and Arsenal sitting peacefully on the bench. “Not here to kill you this time, beautiful.”
“Watch it,” Red Hood’s robotic tone warns from behind as he stands up. Deadshot’s hands immediately surrender, though he’s wearing an obvious smirk.
“Can’t hate the player,” he teases.
“I can,” Red Hood threatens lowly.
The heart-stopping click of a gun’s safety being turned off is enough to wipe the smirk from Lawton’s face.
“Now, now. Let’s play nice.” With this, Deadshot tilts his head off to the right where, off in the distance, you notice a security guard. “Wouldn’t want anyone stepping in on our fun, now, would we?”
It’s a thinly veiled threat and you know it.
Luckily, Arsenal steps in calmly. “We’re just here for information,” he says.
Deadshot scoffs in amusement, crossing his muscular arms, “Didn’t think to wine a dine a gent? Just went straight to threatening?” He sighs dramatically, “What’s this profession coming to?”
“Listen,” you speak up. Everyone seems startled you’ve spoken, so you take their moment of surprise to get what you came here to get. “We need to know who hired you.”
The evening was coming on with the sun nearly being set as you all stood there in the desolate park. Tiny songbirds spouted out as they settled into their homes for the evening while a chorus of crickets chirped a cacophonous background melody.
“You’re cute,” Deadshot starts, regaining his smirk as he continues. “But we both know you’re not that naïve,” he chuckles, stepping away from Hood and Arsenal to come closer to you.
Immediately, your boyfriends flock to your side, but Deadshot pays them no mind. He backs you against a tree, putting a hand right beside your head to trap you.
“What’s your game?” you ask before your partners can intervene.
“Well, ring-a-ding-ding,” Deadshot drawls with a slight purr. “That’s what I’m looking for now, right?” He smiles at you like he knows he’s about to get whatever he wants. “An exchange is only fair in this business, right, gorgeous?”
He makes to tuck a stray piece of your hair behind your ear, but you smack his hand away before he can even get close.
“I know all about your little Task Force X operations.” It’s your turn to smirk. Though you don’t necessarily know what you’re talking about, it’s only half true. You’d uncovered very little information on the government run association from hacking into your parents organization a year ago, but you know with certainty that Task Force X involves Deadshot. “Now, talk,” you demand.
His face instantly drops and his voice deepens. “You don’t know what the fuck you’re talking about, little girl,” the mercenary threatens.
You don’t dare look over Deadshot’s shoulder where Arsenal’s undoubtedly holding Red Hood back from doing something stupid. No, instead, you focus on the mercenary who’d been trying to kill you a year ago.
“I’m not a little girl,” you hiss, putting all your power into pushing him away from you. He stumbles backward, nearly tripping over the bench they’d originally met on in the process. “And I do know what the fuck I’m talking about.” You come up on him and send him flipping over the bench anyway, advancing on his fallen form before he even has time to draw his guns. You straddle him, pinning his arms above his head as you knee him in the chin. “TALK!” you demand menacingly.
“You know,” he drawls, “even when you think you’re not giving me what I want, you’re still giving me exactly what I want.” As if to prove his point, Deadshot bucks his hips up. You know it’s an attempt to throw you off, but you hold steady and land another knee on him- this time to his side. “Hgg!” he laughs through his pained grunt.
“Information,” you insist. To cement your statement further, you knee his other side as you continue to straddle and pin him. “Now, Lawton.”
He scoffs, “You’re don’t get to call me that. Not unless you actually give me what I want, gorgeous.” You continue to glare at him until he rolls his eyes and continues, “You do realize I’m letting you do this, right, doll?”
You wring his wrists at the same time you knee his side with all your might, unleashing a yelp from the man.
“Yeah,” you twist his wrists tighter until his face twists up in pain, “that’s exactly what’s happening here. Besides,” you start with an airy tone, “I thought you said I was giving you exactly what you wanted.” You turn your head menacingly at him, “Now, which is it, Lawton?”
You give him your best intimidating look, which is apparently enough to finally break him.
“Fine, fine,” he winces at your grip. “Black Mask hired me.”
You finally break eye contact with Deadshot to peer over at your partners. You motion down with your head at him and they nod, so you release him.
When he stands, he rubs distastefully at his wrists.
“What did Sionis want with her?” Arsenal asks.
Deadshot sighs, “It was a two-parter. Protect the package, kill the girl.”
“What package?” Hood demands.
“Dunno,” Deadshot shrugs disinterestedly, side-eyeing you, “they switched out hired guns halfway through. Picked up the damn thing from Gotham Botanical Gardens, but that’s all I have to offer. Merc’s honor.” He places a sarcastic hand over his heart, but regardless, you believe him.
Red Hood and Arsenal go over a few other things with him, but all you can think of is your vision. You’d seen a rose and Deadshot’s lead was, well, leading you to a garden.
It couldn’t be a coincidence, right?
“Not that this hasn’t been fun catching up, but I have a girl at home waiting for me,” he snickers at your horrified look. “Don’t look so jealous, beautiful; it’s just my daughter. Anyway, au revior.” Deadshot gives a half salute before disappearing off into the night.
By now, the sun had completely set, though you weren’t itching to get home just yet.
You looked between Red Hood and Arsenal with your hands on your hips, noting they seemed to be thinking the same thing.
“We need a plan.”

wrote a fic inspired by this art piece:
Danny isn't quite sure where he fit in the family yet. It had been a wild few weeks.
His parent’s had … well, they aren't going to be hunting Danny anymore. And Jazz? She is studying at Gotham U at the moment. She hadn't been able to take him in, she couldn’t afford to. But he had wanted to be close to her.
So, he had begged and pleaded with the state to not send him away. Amity Park was in New Jersey. Place him close to Gotham so he can be close to the last family member he has left. Please.
They did. Somehow, some way, they did.
Honestly, Danny hadn't even know that Bruce Wayne was fostering at the moment. The man already had a full house, more children than any sane person could count, why would he foster any more?
Danny is grateful, though. Mr. Wayne — “I told you, call me Bruce.” — has been so nice to Danny ever since he arrived.
And the mansion? It's huge! It's beautiful! It is, “Amazing!”
Bruce had introduced Danny to his other children. All a varying amount of excited. Dick had given Danny a huge hug, telling him, “If you ever need us to smack Bruce over the head, let me know! Also, if you need to get away for a night, just say the word. I’ll come by.”
Damian, however, had glared daggers at Danny. And, Danny had been pretty sure the kid had daggers on him. If the glint of steel was anything to go by.
Generally, though, they all had welcomed Danny in. Had told him, if he needed anything, to let them know. Danny had said that he would, you know, like a liar.
He already had felt like he was intruding, he hadn’t wanted to ask for anything. So he didn’t.
Yet, he found things he needed just … happening. Regardless if he had said anything or not.
Danny woke up from a nightmare? Well, Bruce had just so happened to be walking past with some of Danny’s favorite tea. And would he mind joining Bruce for a three am stroll? Just to clear your head, you know?
He was missing Jazz and really wanted to see her? Hey, Duke was going to Gotham U to tour the school today, Danny would you like to join? We can stop by and visit your sister on the way! Oh, what, no tour today? Silly Duke, he must have gotten the dates mixed up. Oh well, they were already here, might as well visit his sister anyway!
The teenager was feeling cooped up and overwhelmed? Damian insisted Danny help him with his chores of taking care of his pets. Danny couldn’t be a freeloader, after all. And, well, Danny had to admit that visiting Batcow always made him feel better.
Stuff like that just … kept happening. And Danny wasn’t sure what to do about it.
To be completely honest, he still doesn’t. He doesn’t know where he fits in. Doesn’t know if he should allow himself to get attached. What if they get ripped away from him? Or he gets ripped away from them? Will Bruce even officially adopt him? Or is he meant to just be an outsider, only able to get glimpses of something he wants more than anything.
That’s led him to right now.
Right now, he’s hoping for a sign. For any sign. That he belongs here. That he’s wanted.
There’s a knock on his door.
“Hello?” Danny calls, shifting towards the edge of the bed.
“It’s Dick, Danny. Can I come in?”
Danny smiles slightly.
“Sure, it’s unlocked.”
The door opens. Dick walks through it.
Dick’s got his usual casual grin on his face, but there’s a question in his expression. Hope? Maybe? Danny feels like he can almost taste something in the air. He’s just not sure what.
“Hey Danny,” Dick greets, walking over to where Danny’s sitting. “I was wondering if you wanted to play a game.”
“A game?” Danny asks, turning so he can face Dick.
“Yeah!” Dick grins, sitting down. “Jason, Tim, and I are gonna play Clue. I figured I’d invite you to our mini family game night!”
Danny smiles. Family game night. The words make his chest feel light.
“Sounds like fun, I’ll join.”
Dick grins at Danny’s response, practically jumping off the bed as he tugs Danny along excitedly.
“Fantastic! Just know, Tim and Jason are little … competitive when it comes to playing. And we can get a little intense. So, don’t want to scare you off or anything! But prepare yourself.”
Danny almost snorts at that. Danny’s played games with Jazz before. With Sam and Tucker. He understands getting a bit intense with games.
“No worries, I can’t play Monopoly with Sam and Tuck anymore because they almost knocked each other’s teeth out over it.”
Dick laughs at that as they head down the stairs.
“Yeah, sounds like our family,” Dick comments, smiling brightly.
Danny feels a slight relief at Dick not prodding. Danny knows he doesn’t share much about his personal life with them. It’d be easy to ask more about Sam and Tucker. But he doesn’t. It makes Danny feel lighter.
Walking through a doorway, Danny finds himself in some sort of family room. Tim and Jason are already there, setting the board up.
“I call being Miss Scarlet!” Danny cheers, running towards the table.
Then, he’s suddenly confused.
“Uhh,” Danny says dumbly, brows furrowing as he looks down.
Instead of the clue game he’s used to, this one has been … modified. It’s an alternate version of the game.
There’s different places on the board than he’s used to. The theater, the park, and the asylum are just a few.
Characters are different too. He looks down at the board, and sees, “START BATMAN” in front of him. There are different characters around the rest of the board too. Batgirl, Robin, Nightwing.
Picking up a weapon, he moves it between his fingers. A batarang.
“Is this … Batman Clue?”
Danny turns towards Dick who’s smiling at him.
“Yep!” Dick states, patting Danny’s shoulder lightly before he sits down. “I call Robin!”
Tim groans loudly, wrinkling his nose at Dick.
“I’m always Robin!” Tim states, frown deep on his face.
“Exactly, but I was Robin first,” Dick retorts, a knowing smirk on his face.
Robin first? Dick probably meant that he used to play as Robin in this game before Tim joined the family.
“I call Batgirl!” Jason says quickly.
“Uhh,” Danny scrambles, looking down. “I call Batman?”
Jason huffs out a small laugh at Danny’s hesitance, but hands him the corresponding yellow piece for him to place on his board.
“I’ll be Alvin Draper, I guess,” Tim grumbles, and Jason laughs … too hard at that.
Was there some sort of inside joke he was missing here? Probably. They’ve known each other a lot longer than Danny has. It makes sense that they’d form inside jokes that Danny wouldn’t quite understand.
“So, Danny, since this is your first time playing Clue with us. Here are some house rules,” Dick starts as Jason and Tim finish placing character pieces in their spots. “So, we have the standard rules, of course.”
Danny nods, sitting in his seat as Tim hands him a note card and a red pencil. Danny nods in thanks as he puts them where he wants them.
“We’ll roll to see who goes first. Whoever rolls highest starts, and then we move clockwise. Everyone will have an even amount of cards, the excess will be turned over in the corner so everyone can see. And, at the end of the game, we have a few … special rules.”
Danny raises a brow at Dick, intrigued. Jason and Tim look sheepish, Tim rubbing the back of his neck as Jason stares down at his note card. Ah, so they were the reason for the rules, got it.
“Before you make a guess, you have to declare that you’re making an accusation. You have to get onto the center, before you can guess. And, you write down your guess before you look at the cards. If you’re right, you show us what you wrote down. If you’re wrong, you lose and put the cards back. You reveal your own cards and the rest of us keep playing, got it?”
Danny nods.
“Got it.”
Dick nods, smiling.
“Good, okay, I’ll roll first.”
Dick grabs the dice, shaking them in his hands. When he releases them, they land on five and three respectively.
“Nice, good start!”
Dick hands the dice to Danny. He shakes them in his hands, a little nervously. Releasing them, they almost trip over each other on the board.
A one and a six. Not as good as Dick’s, but pretty good.
Tim grabs them next, yawning as he releases the dice. Two sixes.
Danny’s eyebrows raise slightly as he looks at Tim.
Tim’s not looking at Danny, though. He’s looking at Jason, and smirking.
Jason just sticks his tongue out at Tim and snatches the dice up.
“Just because you rolled two sixes doesn’t mean you’ll go first, Timmers. Maybe I’ll roll double sixes too,” Jason snarks, the dice releasing from his hands.
Danny watches with bated breath, almost wishing to see him tie with Tim. Part of Danny thinks it’d be funny. Dick wasn’t lying when he said they were competitive.
Alas, the dice roll and they land on one and five.
Tim laughs loudly as Jason groans, putting his face in his hands.
“Alright, alright. Tim, you’ll be going first,” Dick interrupts the taunting in the way only an experienced eldest child can.
Dick picks up the character cards and holds them face down at Danny.
“Go ahead Danny, pick our murderer,” Dick says in a spooky voice as he wiggles his eyebrows.
Danny rolls his eyes, laughing slightly as he grabs a card and sets it face down in front of him. Dick grins, setting the cards down before picking up the weapon cards.
“And you, Timmy, you decide what he does it with.”
Tim sighs, putting on a front of being annoyed. But he’s smiling slightly as he draws, setting the card down in the middle face down.
Dick grabs the last set, and turns to Jason.
“Last but not least, Jason, show us where—”
“Oh shut up Dickie,” Jason interrupts, picking a card quickly and putting it on top of the card Tim chose.
Danny moves his own card so it sits with the others, watching Dick smile at Jason as he sets the location cards down.
Grabbing the envelope, he puts the cards they all chose in it, angling them carefully so no one could see. Then, he places it in the middle.
Danny watches, almost mesmerized as Dick shuffles the remaining cards. His hands move so quickly, Danny can barely keep up.
When he’s satisfied with his shuffling, he begins to deal the cards out. Starting with Tim.
Again, he moves with grace and ease Danny didn’t know one could move with. Did Dick used to work at a casino or something?
Shortly, there are four cards face down in front of him, and two cards left over. Dick turns them face up, placing them on the corner of the board between Tim and Jason.
Danny marks “E” on the Bomb and Asylum on his sheet, watching as everyone else moves to make similar notes.
But, Danny also notes how cautiously they guard their note cards. As if to stop everyone from looking. Danny decides to also guard his note card vigorously. If they’re as competitive as Dick warned, and as they’ve shown so far, it’s only the smart thing to do.
Then, Danny looks at his own cards.
Ruins, Warehouse, Umbrella, Grapple.
Danny makes squares on his note sheet and fills them in carefully.
Looking up, he sees everyone is watching him. Likely trying to see where his pencil was placed as he jotted down his information. Danny grins at them. This will be an interesting game for sure.
They’re a few rounds in when Danny notices Dick begins to twitch. His leg bounces, his face contorts oddly, and his finger keeps tapping.
“Well, I’m going to say it was Nightwing,” Tim moves the game piece, “in the Warehouse, with the Batphone.” Grabbing the batphone, he places it on its spot.
Tim looks at Jason, who rolls his eyes and shakes his head. He turns to Dick, he slides a card face down across to Tim. Danny looks to try and see where Tim marks it on his sheet, but he can’t tell with the way Tim is shielding his notes.
Danny sighs and makes a light note on his sheet on two of those cards.
Jason goes, moving his piece closer to the Warehouse. Then, it’s Dick’s turn.
Danny watches as Dick twitches and then rolls the dice.
Dick makes it into the Ruins.
“I think it was Nightwing, with the Grapple in the Ruins.”
Danny shows Dick the Grapple card. Finding a location is the hardest, after all. He doesn’t want to make it too easy on Dick.
“Good, good. Okay. Your turn Danny,” Dick says rushedly, leg tapping loudly now.
“Dude,” Jason pipes up, raising a brow. “What’s your deal? Why are you twitching so much?”
Dick tries to wave Jason off, but Danny’s also meeting Dick’s gaze. He can tell Tim is looking at Dick too.
“Fine, fine. I just … have to pee. But if I go you guys will learn information I’ll miss out on!”
Tim rolls his eyes, but his grin is sharp. Predatory.
“Go on, Dick. Go use the bathroom. After all, you should know better than anyone how dangerous it can be to hold it.”
“Plus,” Jason adds onto Tim’s statement, “you’re being annoying as fuck and I can’t concentrate with you shaking like a chihuahua over there.”
Dick rolls his eyes, but Danny does his best to give Dick puppy dog eyes.
“Please Dick? We promise we won’t play without you,” Danny almost sings at him.
“Tim and Jason will—”
“But I’m next, Dick. And I won’t go until you come back,” Danny promises, holding a pinkie out.
Dick smiles gratefully at Danny, linking his own pinkie with Danny’s. What Dick doesn’t see, though, is Danny’s other fingers are crossed in his lap. Danny is a new player here, and Dick doesn’t know how he plays.
Shooting up, Dick practically sprints out of the room and to one of the bathrooms.
Tim and Jason groan, looking bored already.
Danny grabs the dice.
Their eyes widen slightly, Tim’s brows furrowing in an unasked question. Danny raises his crossed fingers, grinning.
Jason laughs heartily, almost wheezing.
“Well played, newbie! Well played,” Jason laughs, causing Danny’s grin to grow. “You fit in just fine.”
Danny ducks his head as he blushes slightly, rolling the dice quickly.
Four. Just enough spaces to squeeze into the Longue.
“Alright, so—”
By the time Dick gets back from the bathroom, Danny has ruled out the Longue as Tim’s, and Tim has left the Warehouse and is making his way towards the Park. Jason is sitting at the Warehouse, having moved Batman there along with a crowbar.
Dick claps his hand as he sits down, smiling at Danny in gratitude before looking at the board. His face twists in shock as he realizes he was played.
“But you, you pinkie promised!” Dick guffaws, looking gutted as he stares at Danny.
Danny grins widely as he holds up crossed fingers.
“Should’ve checked before you shook, Dick,” Danny teases.
Dick moans as the rest of them laugh at his misery.
That is, well, before Jason nudges at Dick and gestures at the Warehouse.
“Got anything for me Dickie?”
Dick shakes his head, still whining as he puts his head in his hands.
Danny, however, shows Jason the Warehouse card.
As Dick rolls, Danny notices some markings on the board. He hadn’t really noticed before this, too many things happening at once.
“Hey,” Danny starts, squinting at the board on his side. “Why does it say ‘No Tims Allowed’ on the Ruins room?”
Everyone pauses, the only sound is the dice rolling across the board.
“Uhh,” Tim starts, mouth opening and closing.
“I wrote that because Tim used to fool around that area,” Jason states. “One time he got injured real bad, so, ya know.”
Dick jerks suddenly on Danny’s right, face twisted oddly. Jason’s staring at Dick directly. Danny can tell they’re having that moment siblings have sometimes. Not quite silently communicating but also … silently communicating.
Danny squints at both of them. What the hell are they—
“So,” Dick interrupts, “I think it was Robin, with the Batphone, in the Longue.”
Dick smiles at Danny, his lip twitching slightly and the grin too wide.
“Sorry, don’t have anything for you,” Danny answers the silent question, squinting slightly at Dick.
Tim hands Dick a card, and Danny looks at the board. There’s … a lot of markings on the board actually. He can’t make them all out, some of them are at odd angles, others are blocked from sight. But … there’s a lot of markings on here for some reason.
Danny wouldn’t be so suspicious if—
“Earth to Danny,” Jason says, waving a hand as Dick nudges him with his foot under the table.
“Huh?” Danny splutters, looking up.
“You’re turn,” Jason replies, raising a brow at him and tilting his head slightly.
“Right,” Danny says, clearing his throat as he rolls the dice.
It’s probably nothing. He won’t worry about it.
He moves his character towards the Harbor.
At first, Danny doesn’t realize that the end of the game has come. Not until he sees Tim move his character towards the middle.
He’s unnaturally silent as he moves his piece, eyes shifting around as if checking to see if anyone notices … something.
“Oh my god,” Danny blurts, eyes widening as Tim’s eyes meet his. “He’s going for the middle! He knows what it is.”
Jason’s head whips towards Tim’s, eyes squinting.
“Danny’s right,” Dick pipes up, looking at the board and up at Tim, eyes moving quickly. “Tim figured it out.”
Almost angrily, Jason grabs the dice and rolls them. Unfortunately, his luck isn’t much better than Tim’s roll was, and he barely moves.
“Fuck!” Jason shouts, rubbing his hands aggressively over his face.
It’s not over yet, though.
Danny turns to face Dick, and sees when Dick notices that his moment of weakness to use the bathroom would doom him. Everyone was heading for the middle, but Danny knew Dick didn’t really have a clue.
Yet, it was Dick’s turn.
Amused, Danny watches as the cogs turn in Dick’s head. He is the closest to the middle of the board. If he doesn't go for it, he’ll lose.
Dick lets out a deep sigh, shoulders slumping as he puts his face in his hands. Danny pats his back comfortingly, smiling slightly to himself. The other man just groans in despair.
“Fuck it,” Dick mutters into his hands, adjusting in his seat so he was sitting upright.
Quicker than Danny’s eyes could follow, Dick grabbed the dice off of the board and shook them in his hand. Releasing them, the first red die landed on three next to ruins. The other one rolled further on the table, off the board, rolling close to the edge.
Danny watches it, partially hoping it’ll fall just to cause Dick more distress. It doesn’t. It lands on five.
Dick is only six squares away from the middle.
Reaching forward, Dick grabs his red piece and moves it towards the center.
“I would like to make an accusation!”

NOT THE SAME | Jason Todd X Male!Reader (PLATONIC)
SUMMARY: The one about long awaited reunions and coming outs.
This is about coming out as trans so quiet clearly, Reader Is Trans.
A/N: comfort fic for myself it's 3:32 am and I wrote this on like am hour so forgive me for any mistakes. Also posted on mobile, will fix anything later. pls request me soemthing I'm so bored
The sound of his own footsteps echoing made his ears hurt and his stomach drop. He had decided to go up the seven floors of the building by walking the stairs to make it all longer.
With his hands shaking and a cold drop of sweat sliding down his forehead, he reached the last set of stairs to go up. He stopped in the first step, breathing deeply.
Nothing was working to calm him down, he could feel his heart beating faster for every step closer to his destination.
Not a single thought in his mind was positive, he was thinking of leaving and running from this, being a coward. Thinking of the rejection he was about to face. And he was asking himself if the truth was really worth all this sacrifice.
After all, he had taken a big risk on doing this when he could have just kept on ignoring this necessity and pretend his relationship with his brother would, in some way, keep being the same as it was before.
But if there was something his father, Bruce Wayne, had done right with any of his kids, it was certainly the fact he had not raised any cowards. So he kept on walking.
The paper with an apartment number on his left pocket was wrinkled for all the times he had spent looking at it in the past two months. It was always in the same pocket and every time he felt a little brave he grabbed it. It had never been of actual use until now.
Standing at the door that matched with the number on the paper he realized that maybe, Bruce Wayne did raise one coward.
Behind the door was his brother, the one who had once worn a dress at a gala to accompany him because had felt uncomfortable with the one Alfred and Bruce made him wear. The brother who used to read him science fiction books out loud when they were bored.
Jason, the brother who had died when both of them were way too young. The reason he had left the family and Gotham behind.
Saying he and Jason were close was an understatement. He was the youngest of the brothers when the Wayne family was way smaller and while Dick was the golden older brother, Jason had been the one support he had when the acrobat left to find himself.
They did everything together, Jason taught him how to cook and had given him his taste of science fiction, poetry and classical music. And he taught Jason how to loosen up, how to be a kid again.
It had been terrible being at the manor after Jason died and his father wasn't in the best place to take care of a kid, so he had moved overseas back with his mother.
He felt the same excitement looking at the door as he did that time when Dick had called to tell him the "Rebirthing News", as Grayson had called them.
He wanted to go back to Gotham that one night, to hug his once lost brother again and feel his warmth. But there was one thing that stopped him.
Jason didn't know he was trans, that he was using a new name and had a new life. And if he had to tell him, the rejection was certainly gonna destroy him.
"Who are you?" The sudden deep voice took him out of his thoughts and surprised him. The door in front of him was now open and he immediately recognized the man who was talking.
Jason was older and taller. A white streak of hair decorated his wavy jet black hair and he had a 'J' shaped scar under his eye. He looked even more fierce and confident than he did back then.
"I'm a friend of Bruce's," he said, playing with the cuff of his sweater. "We've met in the past but you might not remember me. May I come in?"
"Why would I?"
"We need to talk," he begged. "Please."
Jason couldn't point out who this new person was but he clearly had met him in the past, something in his eyes was familiar and warm. So he let the guy in.
The way the boy handled himself reminded him of someone, a long lost sibling he supposed was not interested in him anymore. Bruce's apparent friend walked into the apartment with a fake confidence, he could see the way everything shaked and he kept tripping on his own feet, making Jason snicker.
He guided the boy to the small area of his kitchen and signed him to sit at the table and with no questions he served him a glass of water.
After the boy thanked him and drank some of the water, Jason sat in front of him. With no words, he asked him to speak but he kept opening and closing his mouth, like trying to find the right words.
"Why don't you try from the start?" Jason suggested.
"That'd be more complicated."
"Try me," he dared.
"When you were 15, you had a phase where you would only read Mary Shelley, you said she was a genius. Alfred told you to expand your horizons," he tried.
Jason got up from his seat and his fist hit the table. He was much quicker to anger that you the boy had remembered but he ignored him. "How do you know all of this?"
"You said it was bullshit. And then you processed to recite Frankenstein everytime Alfred was close by." He laughed, remembering how annoyed Alfred had been for that entire month. "Alfred would leave non fiction books on your door every week. And then you fell in love with Mary Wollstonecraft's work and nonfiction thanks to him. You had to admit defeat."
Every word made Jason more confused. He said he was a friend of Bruce, but not even Bruce had been present for that one situation. However, nothing on this random kid he had let sit in his kitchen had made him feel uneasy. In fact, since had laid eyes upon the boy he had been feeling safe, something he had missed. So he let the boy keep talking.
"But you didn't. And I always thought you were so cool for that, and I wanted to be just like you." He admitted. "Even if Bruce Wayne, Batman himself, was around me, Even when the perfect son Dick Grayson was there. You had been the example of," he stopped himself and his hands moved in a weird pattern, thinking. "I guess I would call it masculinity. The example of the man I wanted to become."
"You're talking as if we were close," Jason said for the first time. "But I would remember you."
"You do remember me. I just don't look the same way I did back then, JJ."
It took Jason a few minutes of thinking to realize what was happening. Only one person had ever called him JJ and after analyzing his whole speech, it hit him.
"You're.."
"Yeah, brother. Its me." He got up from his seat looking at the floor. He knew what was coming, he had got it before by friends and partners, the disgusted tone, the hatred stares and the hurtful rejection.
Jason walked his way around the table quickly to the young man and immediately hugged him, a few tears falling. The boy didn't hug back.
Once Jason let go, he grabbed his brother's head carefully, taking in his familiar yet different face. He laughed while some more tears fell. "You're so old now."
"Are you...okay with this?"
"Of course I am, birdie," Jason assured, using the old nickname both of the boys had missed hearing. "No matter what, you're still my brother."
"I'm sorry, Jay," the younger one started crying. "I should have come sooner, I should have visited. But I was so scared."
Wiping the tears of his brother's face, Jason smiled and hit their foreheads together. Just like back in the day when none of them liked big displays of love until they settled on headbutts and anything similar.
"I'm not mad, I love you and I want you to be happy. But if your new name is lame like Richard's I will kick you out of my house."

i miss the days i would run into some gen Batfam fanfiction on tumblr so here is one:
*
*
Jason's books were missing.
Usually when Jason spends the night at the manor he takes a guest room, but he always makes a quick trip to his old bedroom because of the bookshelf with his good old copies he likes to read before sleep. And the bookshelf was currently empty.
Jason kept looking at it, maybe replacement was pulling a prank on him? Or did Bruce just decide to give them all away? Either way, it was too late for this shit and Jason was pissed.
He went straight to the corridor and flew open Tim's room's door, just to face an untouched bed.
"Fuck." He murmured to himself, closing the door as he entered the corridor again. Tim was spending the night at kon's, wasn't he?
Damian had absolutely no reason to mess with Jason's books. Since Jason introduced him to Jane Austen, Damian has been borrowing some books from Jason's shelf and the little brat always put it back in the exact same place once he finished his reading.
He paused at a thought, staring ahead. Has Bruce actually given away all his books? The man treated his old bedroom like a fucking sanctuary, why would he do something like that ?
Now he was really starting to get mad. All Jason wanted was his copy of 'The Hobbit' so he could fall asleep easier.
A quick Look at the wall's watch told him it was past midnight. Today was Bruce's day off patrol, meaning the man probably was passed out right inside his room.
Perfect.
He walked towards the last door of the second floor, the master bedroom.
He twisted the knob with no ceremony and got inside, standing on the side of Bruce's sleeping form on the bed.
The man was out for real, snoring like a bear hibernating during winter. Jason leaned forwards.
"Bruce." He shook the oldest shoulder.
Nothing.
"Old man, wake up." Jason said a little louder, this time Bruce shifted a bit.
"Bru-" Before he could finish, the world suddenly turned upside down, making the boy lose his sense of direction. Then, his face was planted hard on the mattress, getting stuck under the weight of someone heavy on his back.
"Bruce! What the fucking hell are you doing?!" Jason yelled, voice coming out muffled by the bedsheets.
Immediately, the weight was gone.
"Jason?" Bruce breathed out, sounding confused.
"No, the fucking past spirit!" Jason bit back. He got up and turned around to face Bruce, though the darkness in the room, Jason could still see Bruce standing there, fighter posture and alert, but also in his PJs and with messy hair. Oh yeah, Gotham's criminals worst nightmare everyone, The Batman.
"Why are you still awake?" Bruce frowned, his paranoid mind already working.
"Where are my books?" Jason asked.
Bruce blinked once. "What books?"
"The ones from my bookshelf? In my room?"
Bruce blinked twice. "I...You sleep in your bedroom?"
"No." He answered maybe a bit fast "But I still read the books from there, that are MINE by the way." He crossed his arms.
Bruce looked more lost than a bird flying backwards, he kept awkwardly standing in front of Jason. "yes, they are yours...What about the books?" He asked again.
"They are all missing! The shelf is empty!" Jason threw his hands in the air dramatically. "Did you give them away?" The youngest accused, defensively.
"What? No, I didn't. I could never."
"So where the fuck are they?"
Bruce made his thinking-hard face knitting his eyebrows together. After a moment he sighed, rubbing at his eyes.
"Jason, today was spring cleaning day, Alfred took your books off so he could dust the shelf. They are probably in the library if you go look there." Bruce answered with a tired voice.
"Oh." Jason realized, feeling stupid for not thinking about it earlier. He even helped Alfred by cleaning the kitchen, how did he forget?
Bruce grunted, walking past Jason.
"Is there anything else I can help you with at 1 in the morning?" Bruce sat on the edge of his bed.
"No." Jason answered, looking down at his feet.
"Alright, then I guess this is a good night." Bruce immediately buried himself under the covers.
" Night." The son turned on his hills and walked out of the room. Only to stop by the doorframe and look back.
"Did you just 'jujitsu' me when I woke you up?"
The big vague gigantic lump on the bed with Bruce's shape grunted "maybe."
"You could have killed me there."
"I wouldn't kill you Jason." Bruce mumbled back, annoyed.
Jason felt his lips curl up in a little smirk.
"But you almost did."
Bruce sighed loudly.
"I did not."
"You did."
"Did. Not."
"Definitely did, I think I even heard my mom calling me from heaven."
A pillow came flying in Jason's direction, but before it could hit his face, he shut the door quickly behind him.
Jason laughed, making his way to the library.

Emotional Parts
Part 1 (You are here)
Part 2
Jason could've ran someone over with how he drove to the Manor. Dick messaged Jason, rather incoherent as Dick seemed to be having trouble involving Damian. Whatever happened must be serious if even Dick is having some issues. Jason opened the doors and a few steps in was soon down on the floor.
"Jason! Richard, Jason is here! Yay!"
...what the fuck..?
"Damian..?"
Damian Wayne, the most annoying stubborn kid ever, was now on top of Jason beaming with excitement. "What... what is going on with you?"
"Dames you gotta get off of him"
Damian bounced right off and smiled "Okie-dokie!" "Dick what the hell is this?!" "It's Damian" "Well yeah no shit, but I mean did he get amnesia or something? He would never do this" Jason looked at Damian, it just struck at how he looked. Damian had yellow colored eyes and a few yellow streaks of hair in the front? "What's up with you?" "Hm? Whatcha mean?" "Dick, explain"
Dick sighed "Magic, split into four parts"
"Four?"
"Yeah. Yellow can you go get the others?" Yellow saluted with a wide grin "Yes sir! I'll be back!"
Jason got up and kept staring where Yellow went upstairs "Oh my god you think you've seen everything" "Just wait until you see the others"
A few moments, Yellow leaped down the stairs skipping past five steps and landing with his arms out. Two other parts of Damian followed, one with blue eyes and blue streaks of hair. Then red eyes and red streaks of hair. "We got Yellow here, he's full of energy. There's Blue who's timid. Red who's all sorts of angry" Blue hid behind Yellow and Red crossed his arms "Tt. Great, you got dead Hood here in this too? Just what everyone needs in life" Jason narrowed his eyes and Dick had to put his hand on Jason's shoulder "Red, that's not how we talk to people"
With a huff, Red looked away with a pout "Yeah yeah. Whatever"
"You said four parts? Where's the other?" Yellow raised his hand "Green is next to you silly!" "Wh- Holy shit!" Jason jumped back, the one called Green was definitely right next to him hanging out in the shadows. "Yeah... Green is... not very talkative" "What's his deal exactly?" "He follows orders" "Oh... I see. Well what did you call me for?" "They're rowdy when together, so I asked you to help us deal with this until we find out a way to bring him back" "Babysitting different versions of Damian, how interesting" "Hah, yep"
.
Jason had spoke with Bruce on the situation before going to find Dick, passing by the living room to see Dami- Blue sitting by the fireplace alone. "Hey there" Blue flinched though he tried to not show it "Jason... hello" "What are you doing here by yourself?" "Red tried to fight me, Pennyworth said I can stay here" Blue shifted slightly away from Jason "Can I sit with you?" "Um... yeah sure" Jason watched the fire as he sat by Blue. This part of Damian... what exactly is he? He's docile, seems more afraid? As if everything is going to attack him.
"Can you... tell me about the others?"
"What do you wanna know?" "Just things you know if you'd like to share" "Well Yellow is basically a child, he's happy and always bouncing around to do something. Red is always looking for a fight whether with words or actions. Green is just quiet"
"And you?"
"I don't know, I'm just a confusing part I suppose"
"...it's okay to be scared"
Blue stared at the flames, eyes becoming wet. "Is it?"
"Yeah. I've been scared before. I know how it feels to be scared and feel like you can't do anything at times. Just hoping that something will save you or imagining a million possibilities in which this would have never happened"
"She had me killed... I'm afraid of going back there. It was scary, but I'm also afraid of myself. Am I... good enough for any of you? Or will I be replaced?"
"No, we wouldn't let that happen. You need to remember that you're a part of this family"
"...you are too"
Jason looked at Blue "Guess I can't really give advice if I'm not gonna do it myself when it applies" Blue looked right back at Jason "If I'm ever tossed aside... could I count on you as well?" "Anytime"

Normalcy in Chaos (Jason Todd X Little Brother!Reader)
Characters: Jason Todd X Little Brother!Reader
Universe: DC, Batman
Warnings: Mention of abusive/unstable family
Request: jason todd x little brother reader? he’s his brother biologically, kept away from bruce & the rest of the Wayne’s by Jason until they find him one day when visiting Jay so Jason decided to introduce him to the rest of the batfamily?
Jason’s early years had been nothing but hell for him, a childhood ruined with no chance of repair, and that was something he had grown to accept and had moved on. He still had resentment for his father, and wishes that his mom had done better, but what was done was done, and he’d moved on. He’d gotten a new family, a new life, and new meaning. However, there was always one thing from his past he couldn’t let go of- not that he wanted to. That was his little brother.
You were significantly younger than Jason, by about 10 years. When Jason found himself homeless, you were just a year old, and had been forced into the system, though Jason with some blind luck managed to get frequent visits to see you when he could. You were about 5 years old when Jason was killed by Joker, and 10 when he came back. By that point with a little bit of work, getting a place to live and making sure it had all your needs and a cover for what he actually did as a job, Jason managed to get custody of you. He knew he didn’t have to do that. He could have left you to either be adopted or something, but Jason decided long ago that as soon as he got the chance, he’d step in and raise you better than his parents ever did.
“Jay?” You asked coming into the living room from your room, coming and sitting down on the couch beside him, homework in hand. “Can you help me with my english homework?”
“Sure, what’s it about?” He asked, turning down the television and looking at the work you had with you. Jason always made sure he was as involved as possible. He was at every parent’s evening, every presentation and club event you were involved with, and all you had to do was text or call him saying you needed him and he’d drop everything, even if it led to Bruce yelling at him. He didn’t care, since his attentiveness had helped build a strong bond with you two, meaning Jason knew that you’d always come to him for help, no matter how silly or personal it was.
“We have to dissect Shakespeare, and since you love Shakespeare it makes sense you’d know it like the back of your hand.” You explained to him. Jason nodded, looking at the sections you had to dissect, quickly picking up it was from Macbeth.
“Alright, let’s start with modernising what’s been said with this quote-” Jason started, being interrupted by a knock on the door. A heavy knock. A knock he knew. He looked up at the door, so did you. “Hold on, go to your room real quick, I’ll call you out in a minute.” Jason told you, getting up. You were aware of your big brother’s real job, so didn’t argue, quietly gathering your things and heading to your bedroom as another knock came from the door. Jason strode over, opening the door, being greeted by Bruce in the full Batman suit. Bruce immediately stepped in. “Did I say you could come in?”
“I’m presuming you haven’t seen the news?” Bruce asked as he went deeper into the house. Jason talked over to the television, turning on the news, seeing the report of the arson no Arkham asylum, several dangerous inmates missing. Jason huffed, realising this meant he’d have to stay out tonight. However, as he was distracted, Bruce had realised something was afoot. He noticed how the two chairs at the dining room table weren’t pushed in, how there were two mugs in the sink waiting to be washed, along with two dinner plates. He turned back around, examining the entrance, noticing the pairs of shoes and coats that didn’t suit Jason, and clearly belonged to someone younger. Jason wasn’t living here alone, and whoever was living here was also younger. By this point, Jason had noticed his adoptive father’s behavior, and knew he was deciphering his surroundings.
“Can you give me half an hour? I said I’d help him with his homework.” Jason bargained. Bruce looked back at the young man, a slight motion of his head being a silent request for more information. “He’s my little brother, alright? He’s 15.”
“Why didn’t you tell me about him?” Bruce inquired.
“And drag him into all this shit? Hell no. If he’s associated with you, either as Batman or Bruce Wayne his safety decreases, we all know that. While he’s here he’s just another kid, no one’s target. He’s safest here, hidden.”
“Fair enough.” Bruce agreed. “Is he here?” He asked, Jason nodded, before walking deeper into the apartment, going to a door, gently knocking, opening the door a little and clearly speaking to you in a quiet voice, before the door opened, and you came out.
“Bruce, this is Y/N, Y/N, this is Bruce.” Jason introduced you both. You awkwardly smiled and waved at the man dressed in full black in your living room.
“Nice to meet you, Y/N. Sorry for intruding. Take as long as you need, Jason.” Bruce apologised. “We can handle this until you’re ready. If you’d like when things are cleared up, we could have a family dinner?” Bruce suggested.
“...Sure. Sounds good.” Jason agreed. Bruce nodded, quietly excusing himself, and Jason turned to you. “Alright, let’s get back to that homework and get it done before Gotham tries to burn down again.”
Hope you like it! If you have any questions, please send them in!

**********************************************************************
She watched the group socialize from her position in the corner; she’d never been out and open like Kori was. She’d always preferred to watch in silence, to observe…the years she spent captive, formed her mindset of watching and waiting for moments of weakness. Speaking of Kori, she watched her step into the room with Dick; their hands tightly clasped together.
Fighting a laugh, she glanced out the window, turning her attention to the waves as they crashed against the rocks below the tower. She wondered why she was here. She wasn’t a part of the Titans…not really. Her animosity towards leniency on justice put her at odds with just about everyone within the group, and especially the Justice League. Well, except for Diana; the Amazon was the only one who truly understood her reasoning.
But as for letting criminals go free? It didn’t happen. Rarely ever, did (Y/N) allow a criminal to walk away from her, and her mind drifted to the memory of her first mission with the Titans.
***
She stepped out of the smoldering hole in the warehouse wall and strode to the criminal crawling from her. Placing her foot square between his pelvis and spine, she stepped down with all her strength and listened to his spine crack under the strain. He let out a bloodcurdling scream and she rolled him over with her foot, glaring down at him, watching as he begged.
“Please!”
A white hot star-bolt formed in her hand and she raised it, speaking coldly. “The women you assaulted and killed did not want to die either.”
The man began to cry as she flung the bolt, watching his body incinerate, and turn to ash; she turned and began walking away, ignoring the concerned look from her sister, and the angry looks from her teammates.
They hadn’t even gotten five feet into the tower when Dick was on her like a beast to a fresh kill. “What the hell was that, (Y/N)?”
She glowered, warning him darkly, “Watch how you speak to me, Richard. I am not Kori. And you should believe me when I tell you that what I feel for you is nothing short of loathing. And loathing is quick to turn deadly should I be pushed.” (Y/N) turned to leave when he moved in front of her again.
“It doesn’t matter what you feel! You owe us an explanation!” He shot back.
She barked a cold laugh. “I owe you nothing, least of all an explanation.”
“You murdered him!”
(Y/N) narrowed her gaze. “And the point you are trying to make is?”
Dick threw his hands into the air. “It was wrong!”
“Was what he did to those innocent women also wrong?” she countered and he all but recoiled.
“Of course! But that doesn’t—”
“But nothing. He was a despicable criminal, and he deserved to die for his crimes.” (Y/N) turned around and began walking to the door.
“We aren’t executioners, Kiyahnd’r.” Dick admonished.
She froze in her spot and glanced over her shoulder, her eyes frosty towards them. “Perhaps not you, Richard. But you were not raped and beaten repeatedly as a young child.” Her gaze narrowed. “My justice is absolute in the face people who do the same thing that was done to me and my sisters. Never forget that.”
***
(Y/N) blinked, dragging herself from the memory; it hadn’t been long after that, that she found herself tangled in combat with the Justice League. Apparently, she had held out against them far longer than anyone ever had, managing to overpower The Flash and Martian Manhunter. She had almost defeated Batman when Wonder Woman and Superman intervened, subduing her. That was a fun day for (Y/N), and she remembered how Batman had made her concede killing people…mostly anyway.
The years had been decent to her and she came to terms with her life, even branching out into modeling like Kori did. They ruled the runways. But the “lone wolf” style she’d developed while in captivity still ruled her, and she found it increasingly hard to keep continuing the team. They had all gathered in the room, and she rose from her seat.
Immediately, the talking stopped as everyone turned to stare at her; Dick smiled at her from his seat, Kori perched herself across his thighs. “You alright, (Y/N)?” She met his eyes before moving to the table and setting down a small metal piece. It clinked and their eyes moved to it, as Dick questioned, “What’s that?”
“You know what it is, Richard.”
He glanced over, looking at the item, and took in the realization of what it was. “Your key to the tower?”
(Y/N) nodded. “As of now, I formally relinquish my role as a Titan.” Ignoring the shocked gasps and stares, she continued. “I will be leaving at dusk.” (Y/N) made her way to the door. “Thank you…and goodbye.” She didn’t wait for their replies, moving to her bedroom.
She closed the door and sat beside the window, occasionally glancing at her packed bag. (Y/N) had money saved up over the years, from odd jobs to her professional modeling career worldwide and she still had big money rolling into her bank account from other various sources. She would be alright; she just needed to find a place to live on her own and thrive.
A knock tore her from her thoughts, and she turned to the door. “Enter.” In walked Kori and Dick, and she sighed knowingly. “Delivering the parting words?”
“Kiyahnd’r…are you sure you want to leave?”
(Y/N) rolled her eyes. “Very.”
They sat down on her bed, a couple feet away, and Dick leaned forward. “You don’t have to leave, (Y/N).”
“I am aware,” she noted. “but this is something that I want to do.”
“Why Kiyahnd’r?”
(Y/N)’s eyes flitted to Kori. “Because this is not where I belong.”
“Don’t say that, (Y/N). You—”
She raised a hand. “Do not try and cushion the blow, Richard.” She rose and stared out the window. “It has been plain to see all these years that you all will never trust me.” (Y/N) glanced at Dick. “Or accept me onto your team.”
Dick went silent, and Kori nudged him. “Say something.”
“What do you want me to say? She’s kinda right.”
“Dick!”
(Y/N) stopped Kori. “Do not be angry at him, Koriand’r. Richard is right.” She paused. “I am not you Koriand’r…I allow my past to define how I live my life.” Her eyes moved to her sister’s, and a hint of sorrow crossed her tone. “I cannot let go of our pasts. It will haunt me forever, and I need to find my own path…away from this place.”
The two of them went silent, then Dick said, “If you don’t have anywhere to go…Jason’s been in need of a partner lately.”
(Y/N) scoffed. “That moronic imbecile? Certainly not.”
Dick snickered as Kori sighed. “Jason is not stupid, sister.”
“Truly? There have been a few times where he has fooled me.”
Kori sighed again, as Dick rose from the bed, moving to (Y/N). “Look…I know you think I don’t like you—”
“You do not like me.”
Dick rolled his eyes and corrected, “Wrong, Miss Know-It-All. I happen to like you very much. In fact—”
(Y/N) cut him off, turning to Kori. “Be cautious sister, you apparently have competition for Richard’s affections.” Kori and (Y/N) giggled as Dick raised his hands in exasperation.
He marched to the door with them still raised. “I give up! I came in here to wish you goodbye and good luck, and this is what I receive!” He was almost out the door when (Y/N) pulled him back, spinning him around to pull him in for a brief but heartfelt hug.
She pulled away and glanced at him. “For all you have done for me…and for all the times you have tried to help me…thank you, Richard.”
He grinned up at her and squeezed her round her middle. “See…you love me after all.”
(Y/N) rolled her eyes and picked up her bags. “Do not push it Dick. You still anger me.”
“You aren’t the first person to tell me that.” Dick shrugged.
She snorted and moved to the door, stopping and glancing at them. “And I most certainly will not be the last.”
***
The flight to Gotham City was quiet, and she remembered the first time she arrived.
***
The portal opened and she fell through it, still fighting off the Psions who followed her. They crash-landed into a building, and the rubble was lit up like the sun as she threw star-bolts at them. The fighting lasted for a few minutes, and in the end, she stood victorious among the scattered body parts. Her mind raced as she tried to remember where her sister had gone, and the next thing she realized, a Psion was on her back.
She cursed in her native tongue as it clawed at her, and gathered energy into her palm to kill it when it flew off her, landing a good distance away. She rolled to her side and coughed; a hand appeared in her vision, and she looked up to see a man in black standing over her.
His lips moved, and she knew words were coming out, but it sounded like gibberish. The hand extended towards her more, and she took it, allowing him to help her stand. He kept speaking and she rolled her eyes, reaching out and grabbing his face; she brought their lips together, and words and languages flowed through her mind.
She released him and he simply gaped at her, too stunned to move; she snorted. “Apologies. My race learns by psychophysically connecting with one another. The most effective way is through oral contact.”
“…You just learned to speak English from kissing me?”
She nodded. “Is that what you call it? English? What a strange name it is.” The corner of his mouth rose, and she stood up straight. “I am Kiyahnd’r of…well…it does not matter.” She paused. “My name is Kiyahnd’r.”
He nodded. “I’m Batman.”
***
(Y/N) felt the corners of her mouth raise at the memory; it had been a very long time since she’d thought about it, and it reminded her of how lucky she’d been to learn the languages from Bruce. Kori only received a small amount from Dick; (Y/N) had received twenty-three different dialects, all fluently. The fleeting memories lasted only so long, and the plane began to ascend, signaling her arrival.
She stepped off of the plane and made her way to the baggage claim, picking up her bag and moving to the doors when she saw a familiar man. (Y/N) stared as he walked towards her.
He stopped in front of her and smirked. “Need a ride, doll?”
She rolled her eyes. “Dick called you then.”
“Called a few hours ago saying you were leaving the Titans and coming to find me and Roy.”
(Y/N) scoffed. “I was coming to Gotham. I was not coming to see the both of you.” She glared at him.
“Sticks and stones, (Y/N).”
“Go crawl into a bush, Jason.”
His hand curled around the handle of her suitcase and he lifted it, nodding his head to the door. “Car’s outside.” Jason moved forward, and (Y/N) was left with no choice but to follow him. She watched as he put her suitcase in the trunk, then turned to her. “You hungry?”
“Are you going to cook?”
Jason paused as he was getting in the driver’s door; he looked at her, an eyebrow raised. “Do you want me to cook?”
She moved to sit in the passenger seat. “So long as you make something good.”
He grinned as he sat in the seat, starting the car. “I always make good food.”
(Y/N) let out a ‘hmpf’. “We shall see.”
***
The drive to his apartment was slow and when they arrived, the sun was setting low beyond the skyline. They climbed the stairs and entered his apartment; (Y/N) hummed. “I wasn’t sure that your apartment would be as tidy as it is. It is rather shocking.”
Jason grunted as he moved into the kitchen, pulling out pans from the cabinets. “Sorry doll, the role of messy Robin is Tim.” He paused and glanced at her. “And sometimes, Dick…but mostly Timmy.”
(Y/N) snorted and motioned to her bag. “Where should I put my things?”
Jason nodded down the hallway. “Second door on your right. I changed the sheets and cleaned it, so you should be happy.”
She said nothing and walked to the bedroom. It was a little dull for her tastes, but nothing she couldn’t fix with a trip to the department store and IKEA. She walked back out and sat at the bar, watching Jason cook for them. When he was finished, they sat out on the balcony sharing a bottle of wine.
(Y/N) swallowed it, gagging, “Earth wine is disgusting.”
“Wine’s a peculiar taste,” he snorted, taking a sip. “You have to get used to it.”
She grunted and replied, “I do not want to be used to it. It tastes like…I do not even know what it tastes like. All I know is that it is disgusting.”
“You’re just a Debbie-Downer, aren’t you, (Y/N)?”
“I do not know what that is but I can tell it is not positive.”
“Nevermind.” Jason chuckled and they lapsed into a comfortable silence, eating their dinner, and when they were finished, they climbed to the roof and watched the stars; Jason leaned over. “So, why did you leave the Titans?”
(Y/N) sighed quietly, murmuring, “I did not want to be within their company any longer.”
He eyed her. “And?”
“And I did not want to be ostracized anymore.” (Y/N) inhaled. “I am not Kori. She was accepted easily within the Titans because she is kind and sweet. But I? No…I was never one to be accepted. My attitude and stance on how I deal with criminals was not something the Titans were too keen on keeping.”
Jason listened silently, then tipped his head. “Dick told you to come find me then?”
She shrugged. “More or less.” (Y/N) glanced at him. “I assume he had an inkling that because we are so similar in our mindsets on criminals that we would get along and be able to work together.”
“Red Hood, Arsenal, and Supernova,” Jason grinned. “It’s got a great ring to it.”
(Y/N) rolled her eyes. “I regret this decision already.”
He scooted closer and slung an arm around her shoulders, ignoring the way she growled low in her throat. “Don’t be like that, doll…we’re gonna make a kick-ass team.”
(Y/N) opened her mouth to retort when a light shone in the sky; she glanced at Jason, tipping her head to it. “Well…let us go and show what a team we will make.” She rose, holding out a hand. “Shall we, Red Hood?”
Jason glanced at her hand before taking it, smirking. “Hell yeah.”

Batsis!Reader Gets Injured in a Mission and the Batboys are the Only Ones Home
No Specified AU
TW: Language
Genre: Fluff, Light Comedy
[DC Masterlist]
Word Count: 1.3K

You skid to a stop on your motorcycle, leaving tire tracks behind you in the batcave. You could clean that later when you weren’t bleeding out. You stumbled off of the vehicle, your hand still clutching on to the bloodied towel that kept your uniform from getting dirty and took your helmet off. You had a rather dirty run in with a few lowtime criminals who some how got their hands on alien tech, how that happened you’d have to ask Star Labs later, but either way despite your many encounters with villains who were much worse, the sudden blast from a laser shocked you just enough for them to get at least a cut in. Regardless you took care of them quickly and took the weapons back, which were now pathetically hanging off the side of your motorcycle.
You rolled your shoulders back and began you ascent up the stairs to get back into the manor, it would be best if you cleaned this up as soon as you could because god were you tired. You opened the door quietly.
“Please may no one be home,” you said to yourself repeatedly. Your brothers had a knack for getting rather loud when you came back with cuts and bruises, but you couldn’t blame them with all of their unresolved trauma and the fact that you, miraculously, happen to be the one Bat that hasn’t either died and came back or gotten beaten nearly to death, which you constantly held over them because damn in this business that’s more than just an achievement.
You successfully made it to the bathroom and pulled out the small medical kit and started working on the shallow wound, and right as you finished the shower curtain pulled back.
“Ahh!” You jumped back.
“Ahh!” Tim got into a defensive stance.
“What the hell are you doing in the shower?!"
"What the hell are you doing without a shirt?"
"I asked first!"
"You don't just sit in the shower to think?" You do, but you lock the door when you decide to do that. "Oh my god, did you get injured?!"
"No," you grabbed your shirt and hid the bandages that wrapped around your torso. You both stared at each other for a moment before Tim darted out of the bathroom. "Don't you fucking dare tell anyone, Drake!" You followed him out and ran into the worst possible person.
"Whoa, careful there, (Y/N), when did you get home?" Dick asks. Then he notices your bandages. "What happened? Who did you fight? Why didn't you call for backup? Where were you?"
"Oh my god, I'm fine, Dick," you walked past him and he caught up with you.
"Fine? Fine? You didn't even wrap that right, (Y/N)," Dick begins his lecture and you begin to tune him out right as you walked into your room and shut the door. Dick, knowing his boundaries, stood outside still lecturing you, and you walked out with a new shirt on and continued to ignore him while he shot you rapid fire questions. "At least answer my first questions, (Y/N)." You sighed, and without turning to him, said,
"Got grazed with a knife. Ran into some burglars that for some reason had alien tech. Didn't need it. Downtown," you answered his questions in succession while entering the kitchen, waving to Jason, who was getting a snack, and Tim, who was probably telling Jason about your predicament.
"Alien tech? And they didn't use it?" Tim asks.
"Exactly, they probably didn't know how to. But it doesn't matter, because I am very clearly fine," you reached past Jason into the refrigerator and pulled out a fruit cup.
"You're bleeding through your shirt," Jason points out. You look down and he was right. You let out another loud sigh and tear off a few paper towels from the sink and placed them under your shirt. "At least dress it right or you'll die from bleeding out rather than actually getting stabbed."
"Well, to be fair, if Tim didn't spontaneously pop out of the shower maybe I would have," you complained.
"You didn't lock the door?" Jason turns to him.
"There are ten bathrooms in this mansion, I didn't think anyone would go in!" Tim defends. "But that's besides the point! (Y/N), I don't think you understand the gravity of the situation. If they had alien tech then that knife could have been laced with something."
"Are you implying that I could have alien eggs in me?"
"Why's everyone screaming?" The youngest Wayne entered the kitchen. "I can hear you all from my room."
"Tim thinks (Y/N) got eggs implanted in her," Dick says quickly.
"No, no I don't. Besides, that's not how alien fertilization works."
"You know how alien fertilization works?" You couldn't help the contorted face you made at the thought of how he knew.
"You always do this when we call you out, (Y/N), the point is you could very likely have some kind of alien virus or bacteria inside of you that could quite possibly kill you!"
"Tim, I'm pretty sure it was a normal knife," you walked over to the pantry and took out a bag of potato chips.
"But, if what Grayson just told me was right," Damien cuts in. "How stupid could you be? Letting something as simple as a knife get to you?" He mocks.
"If you weren't a kid I would've punted you by now," you pointed at him with a potato chip and ate it. "Do I have to remind you about last week?"
"No," he scoffs. "But that's not the point. You're trained well enough to avoid bullets and you let a knife get close to you? How out of it were you?"
"I will admit that the alien guns that also shot Bruce did distract me a little."
"And you let them go free?!" Jason finally grasped the gravity of the situation. "What if they come back to find you because they're pissed?"
"Relax, I have them in the batcave," you waved him off.
"You could've been killed," Jason argues.
"Oh stop being so dramatic, Todd, I'm obviously standing here right now, aren't I?"
"One shot from any of those and you could've either been disintegrated or catapulted into another dimension," Tim adds.
"Or worse, completely debilitated and decommissioned," Dick continues.
"You could be dying right now and you wouldn't know it because of how dense you are, (L/N)," Damien was next. You continued eating your chips while they started to talk over each other, then you finally spoke up.
"Okay, I get it, I'll be more careful from now on," you spoke in a steady voice. "Now, I'm gonna go clean this up because I was so rudely interrupted by someone, and when I come back, this discussion will be over," you held your hand up to silence Jason, who was about to retaliate. Then you walked over to the kitchen door and pulled it off of its hinges.
You stood there for a good few seconds, staring at the door in your hands, and the ruined door frame. Then you looked back at the other boys, who essentially all had their jaws on the ground.
"Could she do that before?" Jason asked Dick.
"No..." the other shook his head.
"Alfred's going to kill me..." you laid the door against the wall. You reached for the water bottle on the side of the table and opened it, intending to chug the whole thing down to calm your nerves, but none of the water came out, instead the whole thing was iced over. "Uh..."
The kitchen was silent. You ran back to the bathroom and took your shirt off then the bandages, seeing that the wound had turned blue and had completely frosted over. The other boys followed you, their heads sticking through the door.
"I was right?!" Tim's voice echoed throughout the manor and you slammed your head on the wall behind you.

Kisses in the Corridor {Tim Drake x Reader}

MASTERLIST
REQUEST HERE
Word Count: 3,604
Request: Could you please write a tim x reader fic where the reader is a superhero (I was thinking like Barry Allen’s kid and the new Kid Flash) and is also Tim’s s/o and maybe Bruce and/or the Flash catch them having sex? 💜
2s. “stop before someone sees!" & 4s. "ten? i only need five."
WARNING NSFW MATURE CONTENT 18+ Tim and reader are 18
I WOKE up to the sound of a loud buzzing. I moved away from Tim’s grip and reached on the nightstand for my phone. I looked back at Tim, he held the same peaceful expression. I squinted at the caller ID and immediately sat up. I tried to be as gentle as possible, not to wake Tim. He was normally a very light sleeper, but he was sleep deprived. I pushed the blankets off and moved out of the room. I gently opened the door and snuck out into the hallway. I looked down at the caller ID once more to be sure before I answered.
DAD
“Dad? It’s 3am, what’s going on?” I whispered, I heard a rustling in the background. There was some kind of conflict, but I couldn’t quite make it out. After a few moments there was silence, then a heavy sigh.“I need your help.”
“What’s going on?” I moved down the hall trying my best to be quiet. “I’m going to send you some files. I need you to get Tim to decrypt them.”
“Okay send them to me and I’ll have him look at them as soon as he wakes up.” I heard a pause from the other side of the line. “When he-” He paused. “He’s with you right now?” I hadn’t exactly mentioned that I had moved in with him. As far as he knew I was still staying with in the house with the others. I faked a yawn. “I gotta go dad, love you.”
I quickly hung up and moved back into the bedroom. I got back into bed and Tim shifted slightly. I moved closer and he put his arm around me again.
I woke up and found Tim looking up at the ceiling. “Did you sleep okay? I noticed you got out of bed last night.” He turned to me, and I sighed. “Sorry I thought I was being quiet.” He chuckled, “Work hazard. Don’t worry about it.” I sat up and grabbed my phone. “Well it was my dad.” He squinted his eyes. “Why did he call you at 3am?”
“He wanted me to send you some files he needs decrypted.” I handed him my phone and showed him the files. He hummed and sat up. “I’m sorry I know you just finished your project-” He shook his head and get out of bed. “I really don’t mind. I’m sure your father wouldn’t have asked if it wasn’t important.” Tim grabbed his laptop and connected my phone. We moved into the bathroom and got started on our morning routines.
Tim’s was straight forward, he wanted to brush his teeth and get to work. I on the other hand had a few steps. I tried to make Tim do them with me as much as I could. “Come here.” I grabbed his face and massaged a gentle cleanser. Wearing masks almost every night didn’t work wonders for out skin. He waited patiently until I was done. I applied some moisturizer, “All done.”
He smiled and pulled me in for a kiss. “I’ll get the coffee started.”
-------------------------------------------------
Tim spent most of the day working on the files. When it was time to leave for patrol I had to pry him from the computer. “It’s time already?” I nodded and moved to get up. He stretched and then looked around.
I held out his suit and he sighed in relief. “What would I do without you?” He pulled his shirt over his head. My eyes raked over his toned chest. He had come a long way. He used to be lanky, but he had put on a lot more muscle in the past two years. Whatever shape he was in, I loved him.
Truth be told I was still getting used to his chiseled features. I gave him once last glance. “If I stay here any longer we’re going to be late.” I handed him his suit and moved out of the room. I grabbed my phone and noticed a missed call.
DAD: I’ll be by Friday afternoon, Bruce needs me to speak at his proposal. Looking forward to talking to Tim.
As if Tim didn’t have enough on his plate. I still had another 3 days to prepare Tim. I decided to tell him tomorrow. I put my phone down and Tim emerged from the bedroom. We met Dick at the coordinates he gave us. Dick left for the night leaving the two of us in charge. Tim had wired the police scanners to our headsets. The night moved slowly.
That was until the 3rd hour.
“10-44. Any units between 4th street and Palmdale?” Tim and I exchanged looks, stolen vehicle. We were only a few minutes out. Tim used his grapple, seeing as we were nearby. I got there a few minutes before him. “How bad is it?” The scanners had grown more chaotic. This wasn’t a normal stolen vehicle situation. We learned that there were children inside the car when it was taken. On top of it all, the driver was intoxicated. “Can you send out an alert and clear the next two blocks?”
“Done.”
I kept up with the vehicle, doing my best to move civilians out of the path. With the alert Tim had sent out. I was going to get inside the vehicle and stop the driver. “He’s approaching a construction site. You’re going in blind, the city hasn’t updated the maps.”
“Send an ambulance, and make sure the police don’t go into construction.”
“Y/N-” Tim’s voice said sternly. He was too far behind to do anything. “Be careful.”
“Always am.” Now that there were no civilians in the way, I was going to have to get the children out first. He was nearing the end of the map. I moved in and saw two children in the backseat. I needed to take them one by one. It was safer, their bodies weren’t meant to undergo high velocities. I needed to protected them from whiplash.
The first child was a beautiful chocolate haired boy. “Okay, where are you Tim?”
“Magnolia.” He replied immediately. I took the boy and ran him to Tim. By time his older brother blinked I was back. I left them both with Tim and rushed back to the driver. By now he knew that something was going on. He sped up. “What are you doing?” Tim’s worried voice came over the headset. “They’re safe.”
“He could get away.” I used every ounce of my stamina to catch up. I caught up and moved inside the car. I tried to take control, but he wasn’t giving up. The site was less than a mile away. As it grew closer, I saw it was the outline of a building.
If he breached the gates he wouldn’t have time to stop. He would drive through the building’s foundation, which wasn’t secure. It would crumble onto of us. His hand moved to the gun he had by his side. He slammed the gun into the side of my head. I felt the warmth trickling down the side of my face. I threw a punch and felt it connect. He fired a shot and moved my head back. He missed. I lifted my head back up and took the gun. and tossed it in the back seat. I looked up, it was too late. We were almost inside the building.
Tim was screaming in my headset. He heard the gunshot. I opened the door and pulled the driver out. I looked in front of us, the building slowly started to crumble. There was still a chance. There was a small opening where the building hadn’t caved in yet.
I had to make a choice. I needed to risk taking him and him slowing me down. Or I could leave him and get out, guaranteed. I had a fraction of a second to decide. I took one look at him and decided to risk it. I held on too him and used all my strength to reach the opening. I was exhausted. Just catching up to him when he was miles ahead had taken it out of me. Now I was bleeding, and drained.
I thought about Tim. Memories of us flashed inside my head. I mustered enough strength to run. I threw the man out and then jumped out of the opening. On impact, I knew something wasn’t okay. I had landed on my shoulder. “Tim.”
He was just outside the gates.
-------------------------------------------------
Luckily my body worked hard to fix the broken bone. Being a speedster came with its perks. Fast metabolism, and healing. By the time Bruce’s proposal came around, my wounds were almost completely healed.
“Are you sure you want to go?” Tim asked once more, hands on either side of my face. “I’m fine Tim. I promise. I wouldn’t miss this for the world.” He sighed, he had seen the x- rays. Physically I was fine. “Fine but if you start to feel even just a headache, we’re coming back.” I nodded and he looked over my face again.
I stuck out my hand and he placed a kiss on it before intertwining our fingers.
We arrived right on time. Tim’s part of Bruce’s proposal was one of the first points. He had to go set up in Bruce’s office. “I’ll be right back.” He took his files and rushed up to the office. I joined Dick, Jason and Damien in the lounge. “Hello, boys.”
They looked up and Dick’s eyebrow’s knitted together. “Are you even supposed to be out of bed?” I laughed, “Dick it was just my shoulder. I’m fine.” Damian snickered at his brother. Dick looked at between his brothers. Jason had a smirk on his face. “What?”
“Speedster. They heal 20 times faster than us.”
“He got promoted to lead of the biotech department of Wayne Enterprises a few weeks ago.”
The boys bickered. My eyes scanned the room for my father. He was incredibly hard to miss. “I’ll be back.” The boys didn’t even turn in my direction. I walked to the other side of the lounge. He turned to me and then patted his college on the shoulder. He approached me, a big smile on his face. “Hey dad.” He opened his arms and pulled me in for a tight hug. I groaned, “Little too hard.” I gasped and he let go. “Sorry, I just haven’t seen you much.”
“I know. I’m sorry I’ve been meaning to visit.” He nodded and looked around. “Where’s Tim?” I pointed to Bruce’s office. “He’s setting up.” My father raised his eyebrows. “I didn’t know he was part of the presentation.”
“Wow. That’s fantastic.” He genuinely was impressed. After all he had a background in bio medicine. He knew how hard the work was. “We’ll I’d love to talk to him about it.” I laughed, of course he did. “You can come by our place after and I’m sure he’d talk your ear off.” He turned to me. His eyes narrowing.
Realization struck, and I cursed internally. Eventually I was going to have to tell him, but I was hoping back at home. In front of family and witnesses. Before he could say anything. There was an announcement on the overhead speaker. We were ushered as the presentations were about to begin.
-------------------------------------------------
Tim did fantastic as expected. He kept the crowd engages and said everything perfectly. He approached me as he walked off of the stage. I clapped along with the crowd. He greeted me with a kiss. “You did amazing Tim.” We walked to the back of the room. He didn’t want to interrupt anyone. He gestured for the door. He took my hand and I followed after him. We closed the door behind us and stood in the corridor. Tim let out a deep breath.
He still wasn’t used to speaking in crowds, and this was a lot larger than he was used to. “Are you alright?” He nodded, “I’m glad it’s over.” He moved to take off his tuxedo jacket. I watched as his arms contracted. He slowly rolled up his sleeves, revealing his muscular arms.
He put his jacket over his arm and looked over at me. A small grin on his face. “What?” I shook my head and sighed. “How much longer is this?” He looked at the clock. “We still have another hour.” I looked up at him. His piercing blue eyes were fixated on mine. His hair wast neatly parted down the middle, every strand perfectly combed in place. He moved closer and put his hand over the wall near my head. “What’s got you all flustered Y/N?”
I took a deep breath, my eyes fixated on his lips. “You, Drake.” He smirked and pressed his lips against mine.
Barry looked around the room, and noticed the absence of Y/N and Tim. He turned to Bruce. “Where are they?” Bruce looked around. No sigh of them. He looked at the cameras on his watch. He didn’t see them. Bruce shook his head. The two got up and moved into the lounge. Damian, Jason and Dick were there for security. He knew no one would get past them unnoticed.
“Have either of you seen Y/N and Tim?” Bruce asked. Dick and Jason looked at each other and then shrugged. Bruce sighed, so much for security.
“I think I saw them go-” Damian spoke nonchalantly. He looked in front of him, behind Bruce and Barry Dick and Jason were trying to tell him something. Quite frankly, they looked like idiots. They were shaking their heads violently waving their arms back and forth. Damien squinted as he tried to read the boys lips. Dick mouthed something he couldn’t quite make out. Bruce and Barry exchanged looks, they turned around and saw Dick and Jason conversing casually.
“Damian?” Jason motioned for him to keep his lips zipped. A smirk grew on Damian's face. He wanted to see it all play out.
Dick and Jason tried. They weren’t quite sure what they were up to but they knew it was nothing good. They tried to stay in Tim’s good graces, in the blink of an eye Tim could hack everything they owned. As for Y/N, they knew there would be no escaping. Y/N could catch up to them anywhere. In short, they didn’t want to piss either of them off.
They had noticed their brother couldn’t keep his hands off of his date. They were two hyperactive teenagers, it didn’t take rocket science to figure it out. They watched as Damian’s smirk grew. He hadn’t figured it out but he knew it would get Tim in trouble and that was enough for him. “They went down the hall and up the elevator.” Bruce gave a short nod and the two went off.
“Well, we tried.” Jason shrugged, and took a swing of his drink. He wasn’t going to deny that watching Tim get his ass kicked by a speedster wasn’t funny. “Should’ve choked the little bastard.” Dick sighed, the two could only wait.
-------------------------------------------------
“Tim.” I let out a shaky breath, trying my hardest to keep quiet. “Stop before someone sees!" We were in a building full of people, at any moment someone could walk down the corridor. Tim chuckled against my neck, “You really want me to stop?” I bit my lip, he was right. I didn’t want him to stop. I was just worried about being caught. “The next presentation starts in 10 minutes.”
"Ten? I only need five."
At this point I threw all common sense out of the window. I took his hand and we were in his office in seconds. I had closed the door behind us. Tim smirked, “In my office? You little-” I interrupted him by kissing him. My hands moved from his hair and down to his suit. I quickly unbuttoned his dress shirt, and my hands moved to unbuckle his belt.
Without breaking the kiss i discarded his dress shirt on the floor. His hands moved to remove my clothing. We broke away for a moment to catch our breaths. He picked me up and moved us to the couch. His lips reconnected to mine once more. I straddled his waist and moved against him for friction. My hands moved back down to the waistband of his boxers. I pulled them down and ran my hands up and down his length.
He let out a groan. “Fuck.” He got rid of the rest of my clothes throwing them across his office. I didn’t waste time in scolding him. I lowered myself down onto his length. We both let out a sigh, all of our pent up frustrations released. Tim’s hands moved back to my waist. He lifted me and then slammed me back down onto himself. I bit my lip, trying to stay quiet. His lips moved down to my neck, leaving wet kisses before moving to whisper in my ear. “They’re all down stairs, I want to hear you.”
Tim loved hearing vocalization, he couldn’t get enough. He knew every part of my body. He knew exactly what to do to get what he wanted. He speed up, and hit just the right spot. I gave in. “Oh god.” We were both breathing heavily. Sounds of pleasure overtook the room. Our bodies moved against each other hungrily. Tim smirked as he moved back to my neck. He moved right to my sweet spot. “Fuck,Tim.”
I dug my nails into his shoulders, leaving small red lines, He pulled away from my neck, satisfied by his work. His lips moved back to mine and speed up again. I felt a growing knot in my stomach each time he moved in and out. Sensing I was close he sat up and took control. He thrusted up into me, over and over, and I grew louder each time. “Please, Tim.” I could feel his thrusts becoming more sloppy, he was close. My orgasm came soon after, my body gave out. I shook against him. He helped me ride out my high. He came and I felt his warmth spread in my core.
“Y/N are you okay-” The door burst open, in the heat of the moment I had forgotten to lock it. Luckily Tim reached for his shirt. He quickly used it to cover me. “I thought you were hurt or dear god.” Barry looked at the ceiling, trying to avert his gaze.
“TIMOTHY JACKSON DRAKE!” Bruce’s voice echoed off the walls. Surely the boys down stairs were snickering. “In your office of all places.” He rubbed his hand across his face. Neither of us knew what to say. “Get dressed. Now.” Bruce said sternly before slamming Tim’s office door.
We moved off of each other and tried to find our clothes. Of course Tim in desperation had scattered my clothes. I was kind enough to leave his nicely by the couch. We quickly got dressed and opened the door. Bruce crossed his arms over his chest. Barry glared at Tim.
“Hey dad.” I smiled nervously, he sighed deeply. “I don’t even know where to start. I’m so-”
“Did you finish uploading the files before you-” Bruce couldn’t finish the sentence, Tim pulled the hard drive out his pocket and handed it over. “Go.” He waved us off and I watched as he placed a hand on my father’s chest. I motioned for Tim to go, and I approached my father. Bruce looked between us and nodded.
“I’m sorry.” He nodded, a silence washed over us. Neither of us sure what to say. Finally, he broke the silence. “So, you really love him?” I looked back at Tim who was having his talk with Bruce. I smiled and nodded. “I really do.” It gave Barry comfort. He had seen the strength of the connection when he first met Tim a year ago. He knew that they were growing up, it was inevitable. After all, he was a teenager once. He knew what it was like to be deeply in love. For now, all he could do was try and forget this ever happened. Tim approached us. I looked back and forth between the two. For a long moment there was just silence. The two held eye contact. “I expect to see you during the holidays Timothy.” Tim nodded, “Of course sir.”
We went back down stairs. Damian snickered, and Tim shot a glare at his brothers. Dick and Jason pointed to their youngest brother. “If either of you breathe a word...” Tim trailed off, his threat looming. His older brothers nodded. “And you,” He turned to Damian. “I’ll end you.” I placed my hand on Tim’s chest. He backed away and stood up straight. “You know he-”
“Thank you for the drive, you helped save a lot of people.” And with that he was off. Tim breathed a sigh of relief, “I thought he was going to kill me.”
“I know. In time, let’s just get through this.” Tim sighed, “Fine.”

_______
“Again,” said Batman, cutting you loose a few weeks after you’d started regularly having dinner at Bruce’s place. You dropped to the ground and grunted, Dean’s footsteps echoing in the batcave.
“That’s enough for one night. I don’t want her fighting. She can do recon with me and that’s it. She’s already very good at that,” said Dean. Batman walked past him and to you, picking you up by the back of your suit, your hands going to his.
“You are too soft with her,” he said, scowling at you from behind his cowl. “Don’t panic. Think.”
“Bruce,” Dean grit out. Batman dropped you to the ground, walking past Dean and inside towards the house. You rubbed the back of your neck, Dean sighing as he pulled off his helmet. “I’m sorry about him. I explicitly told him what your role in all of this would be.”
“He has a point. It’s not a bad idea for me to know how to save myself.” Dean scowled and you got in his face, pushing his shoulder.
“Y/N. Don’t.”
“Come on Red. Show me what you got.” You pushed again and he grabbed your jacket collar, picking you off of the ground. He ripped off your mask with a little effort, holding you up higher before throwing you to the side. You slammed into the batmobile, grunting when Dean stalked over. You kept your head down and breathed hard.
“You are there to help me with recon and keep a cool head. Nothing more. Do you understand?” You swallowed and he grabbed your jacket again. “Do you understand?”
“Back off. Is that the only reason you like me? I can help you do your job?” you said, shrugging away from him. “I help you control the shit trapped in there?”
“If you don’t like it, you can leave,” he said. He hopped on his bike and rode off, barely giving you a second glance. The door to upstairs was open and a few minutes later you were entering Wayne Manor, your mask in your hands.
“Did he harm you?” asked Bruce. You turned your head and found him in a chair reading a book. You shook your head, releasing a sigh.
“No. I think he was trying to scare me on purpose though. I sort of implied that he only liked me because of what I can do for him. He didn’t like that.”
“He’s not a normal man, Y/N. You will always have to watch him and what you say. Anything could set him off.”
“He is normal. Nobody but me seems to get that.”
“He died and came back to life. That’s not normal,” said Bruce. You headed down the hall to change, earning a tsk from him.
“Yeah, it’s not normal. Why don’t you not be such a shitty dad and just be there for your kid? I can’t give him back whatever is gone, whatever stayed in the place we go when we die. At least I’m trying.”
“What is that supposed-”
“Dean’s situation isn’t normal. But I never knew Jason. All I know is Dean and him? I like Dean. He is different but at his core he’s still good. He still tries to do the right thing and help people. It’s messier than your methods is all. I just wish he could have one day where he forgets that he’s different than everybody else. You constantly reminding him of it doesn't help.”
You stormed upstairs and into what used to be Dean’s bedroom as a child and young man. You ripped off your jacket and caught site of red in the mirror, turning around to find Dean sat on the window’s edge.
“I thought you drove off.” You pulled off your gloves and went over to the bed where your normal clothes were. A bare hand caught your wrist and you glanced up, Dean removing his helmet. He set it down on the bed and cupped your cheeks, kissing you gently, far more gently than you were used to from him.
“I’m sorry,” he said quietly, forehead touching yours. “Did I hurt you?”
“No,” you said, pulling off his eye mask. You wiped your thumb under his green eye, Dean looking down to the hardwood floor. “Maybe it’d be better if Bruce trained me on my own. I think that’d calm you, not seeing me vulnerable. He trained you after all.”
“Just a few skills for if you’re in danger,” he said. He rested his head on your shoulder and pulled you into a hug. “I heard you speaking to Bruce just now.”
“How-”
“My bike is out front. I didn’t go far,” he said. “Why do you have so much faith in me?”
“Why do you have so little in yourself?” you asked.
“I am a monster. A broken monster.”
“Broken monsters don’t save people. No one likes a goodie two shoes anyways.” He let out a dry laugh, holding you tighter. “Dean. Why do you love me?”
“You make me forgot there’s something missing inside of me sometimes. I can’t describe it other than it feels wonderful to forgot for a few minutes I’m a freak that has part of their soul in another plane of existence.”
“It’ll be there when you die someday, as an old, old man,” you said. “An old man that is loved. It’ll come back to you.”
“What if I can’t love you back the same until I’m dead. The right way.”
“I didn’t know there was a right way,” you said. He tried to pull away and you knew he could if he wanted to but you kept your arms around him, Dean giving in to staying put. “Dean I’ll ask one last time and then I swear I’ll never bring it up again. Why do you love me?”
“You make me a better person, make me want to be a better person. Make me wonder if Dean Winchester can be a better person than Jason Todd was. I have always been angry and always been in trouble. But I think I love you because that crap is multiplied a thousand times over now but somehow, I’m more comfortable with who I am. It’s okay if I’m angry and fucked up as long as I don’t let it control me. I can still be good, even when I feel like I’m a inch away from being something Bruce hunts. I love you because it’s so easy to be good with you around. It’s so easy to believe what you say and not what my head tells me. I love you because you changed me and made me better and I really, really want you to keep changing me until I get that piece of me back.”
“Monsters aren’t capable of love, Dean. So. You gonna call yourself a broken monster ever again?” you asked.
“Honestly, I probably will,” he said. You smiled and reached up, kissing him, letting your lips linger. “Isn’t that the wrong answer?”
“No. There’s not a right answer either. You’re still trying. You don’t have to get it perfect or right, just try. Try and I’ll be very, very happy.”
“You’re too good for a thief you know.” He grinned, tucking a strand of your hair behind your ear.
“Ex-thief. I make a better vigilante,” you said. He shook his head and smirked. “I am so a vigilante. Look at this outfit!”
“You’re like, a desk job vigilante,” he chuckled.
“I’m like your Robin,” you teased. He gave you a side eye but smiled as he turned and gave you space to change.
“Robin was...he was a boy. Red Hood’s a man.”
“Your suit now is a hell of lot more sexy,” you said. Dean watched you take off your jacket, looking you up and down. “What?”
“You need more mobility in your arms. That jacket is hot but it’s too tight,” he said.
“What do you suggest?”
“Bastard,” he said, shaking his head, a smile crossing his face. “Bozo downstairs wants me to design your suit. He made it flawed on purpose. It’s why you struggled earlier.”
“Would you, you know, help design it better?” you asked. “Just in case.”
“Yeah sweetheart. Just in case.”
One Week Later
“Good,” said Bruce as you slipped out of his hold. Dean’s jaw practically hit the floor and you smirked.
“Good? It took me a year before I got a good!”
“Maybe she’ll be more skilled than you are,” said Bruce, a tiny glimmer of a smile appearing for a second. “I have to get ready for an event tonight. You’re both welcome to join.”
“We were going on the rounds for a bit. Maybe later,” said Dean. Bruce nodded and left, Dean smiling as you practiced throwing a punch. “Your new suit doesn’t hinder you the way the old did.”
“This material is cool,” you said, taking off your jacket and looking down at your 3 quarter length sleeves shirt, very similar to the tight fitted one he wore under his brown jacket. “What is it again?”
“A compound out of Wayne labs. It’ll prevent shootings, stabbings. You look good in the black.”
“I like my red eye mask the most,” you said. Dean smiled as he slid if off your face, cockiing his head. “Matches my partner.”
“It does indeed. How about I handle patrol on my own tonight though. You have a party to get ready for and lord knows you’ll need more time than me.”
“You okay going out on your own?” you asked. “It’s been awhile.”
“I’ll be okay,” he said, tucking your mask in his pocket. “Besides, I won’t really be alone. I’ll see you at the party?”
“Okay. Be careful Dean.”
“I will sweetheart. Promise.”
You watched him go, swallowing when you went over to the bat computer. You typed for a moment, taking a seat in the chair, watching the tracker in your mask bleep as it took off towards downtown.
“You’re still concerned,” said Bruce, getting you to flinch. “Sorry.”
“Nightwing said he’d take patrol tonight.”
“So why is Jas...so why is Dean going out is what you’re wondering,” he said.
“I think he’s gonna kill someone and make it look like a crime or an accident,” you said. “Am I crazy for thinking that?”
“No,” he said quietly. “But you have no evidence and I can’t afford to break what little trust I have with him. Not right now. If you feel the need to watch him, watch him.”
“Is it so bad if if he kills?” you asked when Bruce took a step away. “Honestly?”
“He’s crossed the line and he can’t come back over it. He’s staying close to it though. The more he kills, the more he moves away from it and the more of a danger he is to everyone, including you. I will put him down if it comes to it.”
“You couldn’t do it before,” you said. “He told me all about what happened in that old apartment building.”
“If it came down to it,” he said, quickly rushing away. “He’ll expect you at the party. Don’t take too long.”
You turned back to the screen, Dean just hitting the edge of the city on his bike from the tracker. You bit your bottom lip, tucking your knees up under your chin.
“Please be good tonight, Dean. Please be good for me.”

The Ramen Filth (Batfam x Reader)
requested: no
word count: 18k+
“Y/n what are your plans for spring break,” your best friend (Bff/n) asked as the two of you walked out of your last class.
“I'm going to go home actually. I miss everyone,” you told them.
“So no trip to Bora Bora, a week on a yacht,” they asked slightly pushing you.
“Nope, just me my brother, father, Alfred, and my bed,” you replied pushing them back.
When you guys left the building they went to their car while you headed to your dorm room. It always surprised people when they found out that you lived on campus. “You’re a Wayne. Why don’t you live in some penthouse in the city.” “Why are you slumming it here?” Well, you wanted the whole college experience.
When you entered your dorm room, you tried to pack your bags quietly so as not to wake up your roommate. But that didn’t work cause when you were grabbing some clothes and throwing them into a suitcase, she woke up.
“Excited to go home,” they asked you sitting up in bed.
“I haven’t seen them since August,” you replied searching around your room for your car keys. “So maybe a little.”
After you found your keys, you proceeded to gather the rest of the stuff you were bringing home with you. Your roommate got out of bed and went to grab a drink from the fridge. You looked over at her and watched her shotgun a bud light.
“Jesus (r/n) it's 2 in the afternoon,” you exclaimed throwing your computer bag on your bed.
“Well for me it's breakfast,” she replied grabbing a hoodie from their closet and grabbing their backpack. “Well off to class. Drive safe.”
You shook your head at them and waved them off, while you grabbed some snacks to enjoy while at the manor. After grabbing, your suitcase, computer bag, backpack, purse, and dirty clothes you headed out to your car. There was quite a long walk from your dorm to your car cause parking is hell but many people had already left so there was a straight shot to the car. You popped the trunk of your car and put everything in the trunk.
After getting in the driver’s seat and starting the car. You set up your fave Spotify playlist and started to head back home. The college you attend is just outside Gotham which your father kind of insisted. You didn’t really object. Sure you loved Gotham even with all the craziness it held but it has been nice being able to walk around town and not get mugged or have a city block shut down due to dad and the joker.
Once you crossed Gotham City limits, you kind of tensed up and double-checked that the doors were locked but once you were closer to Wayne Manor you started to relax. You really enjoyed the scenery on the ride home. It reminded you of when Dad first brought you home after your mother left you at GCPD with a note letting them know you belong to Bruce.
The Manor came into view and you saw Damian and Titus running around in the yard. You pulled up to the front door and Titus jumped at your door, either he was excited you were home or ready to attack you. Damian called Titus over to him then ran over to open the door for you.
“Sister you’re home,” he said in his usually monotone but this time he gave hug.
“I missed you to bud,” you replied hugging him back.
He helped you get your stuff out of your trunk and carried it into the house. You placed your suitcase and dirty closed by the front door while Damian brought the rest to your room. Jason was in the living room with Tim playing video games. Dick was either at work or in the cave training and the same could be said for dad.
“Honey I'm home,” you called out.
“Y/n,” Jason and Tim yelled running to give you a hug.
Jason tripped Tim in order to hug you first. Tim got up, punched Jason in the arm then gave you a hug. You missed this. Your annoying brothers. They didn’t give you time to breathe. They just grabbed your arm and pulled you over to the couch to play their video games with them. Alfred walked into the room and a smile appeared on his face when he saw you.
“Welcome home, miss. Y/n,” he said walking over to you to give you a hug.
“I missed you,” you replied returning the hug.
“I suppose you have something for me,” he asked letting you go.
“Yes sir, by the front door.”
Once Alfred left you decided to play a round or two with Jay and Tim. You were so in the zone of kicking their asses you didn’t notice when your dad came home. He just stood behind the couch and watched four of his kids play video games without a care in the world.
“Come one, you weren’t smart enough to see that coming college girl,” Jason teased as he was beating you.
“Prepare to die again Jason,” you said as you beat the crap out of him and killing him.
“You cheated,” he said throwing down the controller.
“No you just suck, Todd,” Damian said defending you.
Someone behind you coughs. You turned around as saw dad and Dick standing there. You got up from the couch and ran to give your dad a hug. After he left you to go, which took a while you gave your favorite older brother a hug.
“I missed you,” you said looking between your brother and father.
“Right back at ya kid,” Dick said ruffling your hair.
After giving your dad another hug, you returned to kick Tim’s ass this time. You kicked Tim’s Damian’s, Dick’s, and Jason’s ass (again) at the game before Alfred came in and announced that dinner was ready. Your stomach did like a backflip from the excitement of Alfred’s cooking. It had been a long time since you had a home-cooked meal; you kind of lived off ramen, cereal, and coffee for the past 9 months. You jumped with joy when you saw that he made (favorite meal).
“Aw Alfred I love you,” you said taking a seat at the dinner table.
The meal was delicious, no surprise there. After dinner, you caught them up on everything, even though you basically call home every day. Damian made a comment about how he missed having you around and Jason teased him about it which caused the two of them to fight. Tim got excited about the 24/7 library and coffee shop. That boy worries you sometimes. Dick kept asking about the security and how safe you are even though he basically interviewed every campus officer when you first moved in.
“This is nice and all but don’t you boys have a night job to do,” you asked getting up from the table.
“My daughter is home from college after 9 months. I don’t have to go out the boys have it,” your father replied.
“Daddy, i will be home for 9 long days. Go plus I was hoping you would so I could catch up on sleep. LIKE NORMAL PEOPLE DO,” you yelled the last part so Tim could hear. “Just wake me up when you get back so I know you're safe.
“Alright,” he agreed to get up and heading down to the cave.
“Be safe guys,” you warned them before they went down.
“Always am,” Jason replied which really didn’t sit well with you.
You asked Alfred if he wanted help cleaning but he declined the offer and told you to go to bed. Not needed to be told twice, you went up to your room and just plopped on the bed.
“I forgot how comfortable this bed was,” you said to yourself.
You decided that you needed to change into pj's, so you climbed out of bed and changed only to lay back on the cloud. Sleep took over about five minutes after your head hit the pillow and it was wonderful. But it didn’t last. You woke up and check to see what time it was. 2:19. Going back to sleep wasn’t going to work, so you decided to sneak downstairs for some late-night ramen. You grabbed the (favorite flavor) ramen from your backpack and then headed downstairs. It took a while to find the kettle cause Alfred is very particular about where things go but after you found it, you boiled some water and make the ramen. You were sitting at the table enjoying your snack when the lights came. You froze with noodles hanging out of your mouth when you saw that it was Alfred.
“What are you eating,” he asked disgustingly.
“Ramen,” you replied with a mouth full of noodles. He shook his head and grabbed the bowl.
“Hey give it back.”
“This isn’t food y/n. Do you eat this often while away at school,” he asked kind of scared of your answer?
“Only when I'm hungry,” you replied with a sweet smile.
“unacceptable. You will never eat this filth again,” he promised as he tossed the food in the trashcan.
“Hey, that was my last bag. And that filth is delicious.”
“No Wayne child will eat this especially under my roof,” he warned grabbing a pan and placing it on the stove.
“What are you doing,” you inquired.
“Making you a proper meal.”
“No the point of ramen is that it's not filling. I'm not that hungry I just couldn’t go back to sleep.”
He ignored your comment and proceeded to make your grilled cheese and tomato soup. Alfred placed the food in front of you and shook his head as he went back down to the cave. You had eaten half the ramen already and were kind of full but the grilled cheese smelled so good. So after eating basically a second dinner you went back to sleep. Being home was great.
The rest of your time home was just like you never left. You had a daddy/daughter date and helped everybody train. There was also a small family trip to the amusement park, which was amazing. Damian ate too much and threw up on dad. Best day ever. When it was time to go back to school, you hugged everyone bye and dad helped you pack your car. Before you left Alfred handed you two tote bags.
“Promise me that you will call if you need food. And never eat that filth again,” he warned you in his caring way.
You looked in the bag and saw that he and meal prepped for you. There was enough food here for the next week. Alfred always takes care of you.
“Thanks, Alfred. And I promise.”
Ever since then Alfred and made it his mission to drive up every weekend to bring you meals for the week. Sure it was kind of embarrassing, especially when he didn’t it in the quad during lunch. But you weren’t going to complain. Alfred’s cooking was amazing.

The day he understood what Death means - Batfam x Fem!Reader
Synopsis : The youngest Wayne makes a shocking discovery...And will need his parents, siblings, and the one and only Alfred, to recover from it. /Drabble.
I don’t know. I was thinking about this. How when you’re a kid, realizing that one day you’ll die, but worst, that the people you love will die, is sort of traumatic...And wanted to write about it. So. Here we are, with little Thomas eh. I hope you will like it :) :
My masterlists blog : @ella-ravenwood-archives
__________________________________________________
If you have no idea who Thomas is, he appears in those stories (long story short he’s the youngest kiddo, biological of Batmom and Bruce) : The Great Mall adventure, Master of Diaper Shaky steps and bad teaching, Polichinelle, “Go away, you’re confusing my baby”, Wild Child 2, “We want them back”, How do you make babies ?“ and Mom got lost again”
******
Realizing your loved ones are not immortal for the first time can be traumatic.
Especially if they’re amazing, if they’re your heroes, if you admire them beyond all measure, if they love you unconditionally just like you love them so damn much, and if you can’t even imagine your life without seeing them every day.
If you can’t even fathom the fact that maybe, one day, they won’t be there when you wake up and go look for them. And that they will never be there again.
And so it was particularly quite the shocking discovery for little Thomas Clark Wayne, 5 and a half years old, to find out about that certain thing called...”Death”.
It happened on a moody, rainy Summer day. The weather outside was awful, even for Gotham City. And it meant that Thomas was calmly playing inside, rather than getting up to some shenanigans in the garden.
His parents were home, it was one of those rare day they both had off.
Which always filled little Tommy with joy. It wasn’t often he could get them both with him !! In the end, the fact it was rainy outside was good. It meant they’d probably all snuggle up later in the day, and watch a film, a mug of hot cocoa in their hands.
You would probably throw a blanket over him, and keep him close, sandwiched between you and his dad. His father would fall asleep half-way through the film, which would annoy you and Damian.
Damian would join for sure. Sitting next to you. Yes. He would. Maybe Tim too, if he wasn’t too busy with college ? Oh he would surely make the time to come. And Cass ? Yes. Yes Cass would be there, sitting in her usual spot, on the floor right in front of you (or maybe Tommy). Because she knew you’d gently run your hand through her hair, and your youngest son slowly took the habit to do the same. Which was so soothing to Cass...Duke would certainly be there, he never said no to a good movie.
Maybe, because it was a rainy day, Dick and Jason would come too ? Unlikely, but Thomas could hope. He loved having his entire family in one spot.
They’d ask him to do his “puppy eyes” and convince Alfred to join them too, and not work.
Alfred had an armchair reserved just for him. Right next to the couch where Bruce would sit, leaving enough space for Ace to lay down (Damian’s dog, Titus, always preferred to be near his master, who would more often than not be sitting next to you, laying his head on your shoulder, even as he was not a child anymore...Yes, Titus sat next to Cass, at Damian’s feet, letting his head fall down in Cass’ laps).
Ace...Ace didn’t feel well yesterday, and this morning, the “dog doctor” came.
Thomas heard him say they needed to give him a...an “indection” or something ? (An injection, really) So he’d probably get better. Shots were supposed to get you better or to avoid you getting sick, that’s what you told him.
His dad looked upset, but it didn’t alarm Thomas much. Because his dad was always upset when him or his siblings would get a shot, he hated going, so it was probably the same thing.
Come to think of it, Thomas hadn’t seen Ace since the “vekerinarianan” (or whatever it was pronounced) came earlier in the day.
He suddenly wanted some “doggle” (dog cuddles), and so he put down the toys he was playing with, and went to look for him.
Maybe, he could also round up the rest of his family so they’d start movie time earlier ?
Hyped to have some family time, as he considered his dogs family for sure, he went on the hunt to find Ace, and gather everyone else.
If only. If only he had known...
************
“Aaaace !! Aaace ? Ace boy, where are you ?”
This was odd. Usually, Ace would come running if he heard the little one’s voice. That dog loved children, and he made it his mission to protect all of them (bonus point if he had some snuggle, and a few treats, while doing it).
Bruce told him long ago to protect his kids...So Ace was always there.
Maybe he wanted to play hide and seek ? Thomas would play that game with Titus and Damian, Ace never seemed very interested, but maybe he changed his mind ?
“Ace ? Aaaacceeee ?”
The boy roamed the manor, but every room Ace would usually hang in were empty.
Finally, he decided he’d ask his parents, who would usually hang out in...oh, they weren’t in their usual spot either. In their bedroom, maybe ?
Thomas ran as fast as his little legs could carry him, sure that he would find Ace, and his parents, asleep in the master’s bedroom. When they had their day off, his mama and daddy would often take long naps together.
Thomas immediately knew something was wrong when the door to the room was wide open. Slowly, he approached the place and...surely his parents were there.
But something was off.
His dad was laying in the bed, back to the door, his head laid in your lap. One of your hand was caressing his head soothingly, while the other was drawing calming circles on his back.
Definitely something was not normal. You’d do that to your kids when they were sad, or sick...Was daddy sick ?! This gave Thomas a little fright.
You whisper something into Bruce’s ears, and he doesn’t answer, just shaking his head to say “yes”. And so you stand up, after giving him a kiss on the cheek, and...You spot your youngest son.
You smiled at him reassuringly, and go to him.
“Hey little buddy. You should give a big hug to Daddy, he’s very sad today.”
You say, walking past him and ruffling his hair.
From the direction you were taking, you were going to the kitchen, and Thomas just instantly assumed you were going to brew some tea for his dad. When Bruce was sad, you’d always brew some tea for him, from his mother’s garden (which was kept up nice and clean by you and Alfred, now).
Worried about his dad, Thomas slowly walked to him and climbed on the big bed. Bruce turned around to see what this new weight was, as he knew you had just left and...He smiled.
Of this wide pure genuine smile he gave his family only.
But there was a hint of sadness behind his eyes, and Thomas didn’t like that one bit. So the little boy crawled to his dad, and nestled next to him, wrapping his little arms around his dad’s neck and holding tightly.
Bruce engulfed his son in his own arms, holding onto the little one, burrying his face in his hair. There was always something comforting, in the smell his kiddo had. It was a mix of your smell, which was always soothing to him, but also something more...Something soft and sweet.
Just like his son.
Little Thomas was the epitome of a sweet child. It was a miracle, a man like him made a child this cute and happy. Ah, but he wasn’t raising him alone of course. There was you, and his siblings, and Alfred...
After a pause of the little boy holding his dad, he whispered slowly :
“Daddy, why are you sad Daddy ? Please don’t be sad, it makes me sad too.”
Thomas unwrapped his arms from around his dad’s neck, and squished his little hands on Bruce’s cheeks. Which made Bruce sigh fondly, chuckling a little as he said, honestly (he shouldn’t hide this sort of things) :
“Because Ace is gone.”
There’s another silence, during which Thomas tries to understand why is the fact Ace went somewhere so sad. He cannot figure it out, so he asks :
“But, he’ll come back daddy. Like always. Yes ? Ace is a good boy.”
“Was.”
Bruce is clumsy in his grief. He always been. He’s not sure how to broach the subject to his son, how to explain to him their dog was just too old and sick to make it...He doesn’t know how to explain death to him.
“Was ?”
“Ace is gone for good.”
“What do you mean Daddy ? Where did he go ? Why couldn’t we see him again ? Did he move out, like Dick ?”
Oh. Oh the sweet innocence of a child that is maybe a little too sheltered by his family (he’s the youngest, the one they’re trying to keep away from the horror they see every day as much as they can...Although he’s still trained, all of them hope he will never become a Robin, or worst, a Batman).
“Did he move out, like Dick ?”
Sweet, sweet Thomas. Not able to even fathom that Ace is never coming back...and why would he ? How could he know what his father meant ?
“No, no he didn't move out. He left us, to a place we can’t follow him to.”
Another short pause. And you could see the gears in little Thomas’ head turning. After a little bit, he asks :
“...The toilets ?”
This makes his father chuckle, even in this sad times. But he continues :
“No. Not the toilets. He...He went really far away, where we can’t ever see him again.”
This idea is so foreign to your son, that he raises himself on one of his elbow and exclaims :
“Why would he do that ? Does he not love us anymore ?”
Obviously, the thought is distressing to the little bird. So Bruce says :
“No no no, of course he still loves us...loved, us. But he had to go.”
“But why ?”
“Because he was getting very old, and sick.”
“But we don't mind daddy, right ? We don’t mind ? He doesn't have to go away for that, I don’t care if he doesn’t play like he used to, I want him to stay ! Tell him daddy, call him on the phone to tell him to come back.”
Bruce is lost. How ? How can he explains what death means ? He thought about this moment coming many times, but never told him anything as he thought that he had time to know what it meant. He had time...
How do you tell a child that one of his favorite “person” in the world is dead ?
“Unfortunately buddy, we have some sad news.”
His savior. You, as usual. With two cups of tea, and a cup of hot cocoa on a tray. As you went downstairs to get some “pick me up” for Bruce, you knew your son was gonna need it too.
“What news mama ?”
“Ace. He died today.”
You actually thought about it as you were preparing everything for them. How to talk about this ? You decided to go with “honesty”. Not brutal honesty though. You weren’t about to traumatize your son.
But you thought it was important he knew what happened to Ace. As a child, you hated how your brothers tried to make you think your ferret ran away to Las Vegas or something of the like.
You understood this sentiment, of course. But you also remembered how betrayed you felt when you finally understood “death” and realized your beloved Mister Will Ferret was NOT in Sin City having fun, but just died...
The truth was important.
Especially about such subjects.
Children weren’t dumb. And they had every right to know certain truth.
Did you wish your son could stay innocent for longer ? Of course. But he still had a right to know what happened to his dog. To be treated like a person and be explained things.
People, too often, treats children as some kind of idiots who wouldn’t comprehend complex things anyway, and who have to be protected at all cost from anything...
Kids were clever. You had a bunch of them to prove it so. But above that, although you agreed kids had to be protected...You weren't one of those person who thought you should lie to your children in order to do so.
Because one day, he’ll know what death is. He’ll know what happened to Ace. And what if the fact you lied that day, settles a slight distrust in him towards anything you’ll ever tell him ? Just like it did with you and your brothers ?
No. You thought at first it was a good idea to delay such a conversation. But why ? Because it would make you more comfortable ? That didn’t sound very fair in regard of your boy.
Everyone always talked about “the birds and the bees” talk, but never about something that was even more inescapable than that...
Death.
You give him a few seconds to take in your words. “Ace died today.” You wait for his reaction. He seems to think about it, having vaguely heard of “death” before...finally he asks :
“What does it mean ?”
He’s sitting up in the bed now. Bruce did the same, encircling his arms around his boy protectively (old habits die hard). But he’s determined to explain things to him too. You and Bruce were always rather in sync, about how you should raise your children.
“It means he will no longer be with us. He passed away to something else.”
“To what ?”
“No one really knows.”
“Will we see him again ?”
“No.”
“Why ?”
“Because he’s dead.”
“And being dead means you can’t see anyone anymore ?”
“Being dead means you are not living on this Earth anymore, so yes, you cannot see them anymore.”
“It means we can’t see him ? And what do you mean not on Earth ? Is he in Space ? Can we see him if we go to the watchtower ?”
“I mean in our life, we will not see Ace again. He won’t be with us ever again. He’s not in space, he’s just gone.”
“Because he’s dead ?”
“Because he’s dead.”
“So, being dead means we don’t get to see someone ever again ?”
“Yes.”
“Ever ever ?”
You decide to leave any conversations about a possible after-life aside, as it’s clear this, he’s not quite old enough to comprehend. So you keep on talking about the truth, with the support of Bruce.
“Yes. Ever ever.”
It takes Thomas a few minutes to take in all those new informations. Bruce is sitting on the bed, legs crossed, behind the boy. And your son is clearly lost in deep thoughts...Up until finally, finally tears are starting to well up in his eyes.
“But I didn’t even say goodbye !”
“Unfortunately, we don’t always get to say goodbye...”
“But mama, how will he know I loved him so much if I didn’t even say goodbye before he left ? How could you let him go before I did ?”
“I’m sorry, if I could chose I would’ve-...He knew you loved him and-”
“Are you going to die too ?!”
The dreaded question. Dreadest of them all, really. But you can’t lie to him. Not now that you started to explain things.
“Yes. Everyone dies one day.”
“But but but...but I don’t want you to die ! And Daddy ?”
Bruce nods, and...and that’s when it finally happens.
The awful moments your sweet innocent boy realizes what death sort-of means. That one day, none of his parents will be in his life anymore. Than one day, he’ll lose his siblings, and Alfred.
Just like he lost Ace. Because he was “old and sick”. But...Thomas knew a lot of sick people ! And a lot of old people ! Were they going to die too, without him being able to say goodbye ?!
And so the tears started to fall. And oh, oh did they fall.
Bruce held his son against his heart, drawing soothing circles on his back, just like you usually do. And you came to sit next to them, encircling them in your arms as well.
Thomas was trying to talk, but nothing came out very clearly as he cried, cried, cried and cried some more.
When he finally calmed down, he was slowly falling asleep, crying drained him of all his energy. That night, there was no “movie time”, but comforting snuggles with his parents...
Thomas had finally discover what “Death” meant.
************
“Oh my God Thomas !”
Bruce’s heart drops.
The entire scene goes in slow motion, and the fearless Batman can see his entire life flash in front of his eyes, as his tiny son is running towards him, while a few thugs were about to shoot automatic weapons at him...
“There’s a kid ! There’s a kid !”
“Who cares, we have the bat right at our mercy, just shoot !”
“I can’t shoot a kid...”
“Should we shoot ?”
The few seconds of surprise after Thomas bursted in allow Damian to swoop down, and to get rid of everyone. Slowly, a serious face on, your son walks to his dad and, solemnly, he says :
“This was too close, father. And...Thomas...”
“I know Damian, I know.”
Your little boy was inconsolable, clinging to his dad.
They didn’t even have to ask him how he got there. It was obvious he somehow snuck into the Batmobile (which wasn’t that much of a surprise, although it was already quite a feat...Thomas was small, but also very stealthy, as he was taught to be).
He was only five, and it wasn’t really clear to him yet his dad was that “Batman” everyone talked about, that his siblings were also vigilantes...But he knew that when they went out at night, they were often in danger.
And that night. That night right after the one Thomas learned what Death was...He snuck in the car, so he would make sure “she” would not take her dad away ! Or her brothers and sister !
Only Damian and Bruce were in the car, on patrol together. The rest of the kids were scattered across the city, and you were taking care of the bat computer (nowadays you were the one doing so to give some relief to Alfred).
Thomas took the habit to fall asleep in the cave, in a bed there just for him...and he must’ve snuck into the car.
It was nobody’s fault. It was very unlike the boy, to do such a thing.
He got into the car. When Damian and his father got out of it to apprehend a few of Two-Face’s thug, he stayed behind, looking at what they did...but when he saw those men about to shoot his dad (a proper ambush), he jumped out, punching every buttons (which was quite dangerous itself) to find which one opened the door, and then he ran to his dad...
The surprised probably saved Bruce. But it also almost killed him with a heart attack.
What if those men didn’t hesitate long enough for Damian to take care of them ? What if they shot anyway, ignoring the surprising appearance of a small child ? What if they had recognize who that kid was, too ? (Unlikely, this was a time where Thomas was still quite sheltered from media, as you tried to give him a childhood as normal as you all possibly could).
What if they shot anyway...
Bruce doesn’t think he would’ve survived the death of his youngest son. He was sure, actually, that he would’ve killed those men.
That is, if Damian didn’t do it first.
But it didn’t happen. It didn’t happen, but it was so close. So close.
Later, when everything calmed down, Thomas would explain he jumped in the car to “keep death away”, to protect his daddy and brother. To make sure Death wouldn’t take them.
And that's when you all understood Ace’s death, and the discovery that everyone dies one day, one way or another, truly was “traumatic” for your baby.
From that point on, you made sure that Thomas would be in the cave...but this event. This event really unfolded a problem you knew you’d have to tackle truly one day.
You just had no idea yet how to help your son.
************
Damian had told Jason the debacle that was yesterday. About his parents explaining to their little brother what it meant to be dead. And about how it lead to Thomas sneaking into the Batmobile and running in front of danger to “protect” his dad.
Because of where he grew up, Damian always knew what death meant. And he never cared much (or convinced himself he never cared much). He understood from a very young age what all this shenanigans was...
Jason did too. He found his mother, dead, when he was three years old. He grew up surrounded by death, in the gutter of Gotham. He knew. He did.
But Thomas.
Thomas was a “normal” 5 years old boy, as normal you can be in such a family. He trained a little, and sort of knew about his dad being “Batman” (but it seemed he didn’t understand he was ACTUALLY the Batman people talked about in the city).
He spend most of his nights in a little area made just for him, with a bed and such, in the batcave (he hated sleeping upstairs alone, so he would sleep in the batcave and you’d pick him up to bring him in his bed once you’d go to bed, and/or once the rest of your family would get home).
So for a little one like Thomas, who was pure and sweet and nice...It was a shock, to know one day he’d lose the people he loved.
He was inconsolable, at Ace’s funerals (thrown at the back of the Manor).
He couldn’t get over the fact he didn’t get to say goodbye, and that he would never play with his dog anymore.
It made it worst, that Ace’s death made everyone else sad. That dog truly was a member of the family...
“I know you're feeling very sad. I'm sad, too. We all loved Ace so much, and he oved us, too.”
You told him a few times, tryin to put words on his emotions and helping him understand...God, to Damian, you truly were the most amazing mother. Always knew what to say, how to say it, when to say it.
But Thomas was still blue, and it was so unlike his usual bubbly personality.
And so, both Damian and Jason made it their mission to distract their little brother, and...it worked. For the most part. It really worked.
Amongst all his siblings, Damian and Jason were the ones that loved having a little brother the most. Not that the others didn’t, of course ! They just were a little less willing to play for hours on end with a little kid.
They were rather busy. Jason and Damian always found ways...They were an unlikely pairs at first glance. Most people would think Damian was the closest to Dick, and Jason too. But no. They were equally as close to all their siblings, in different ways.
But Damian and Jason, they had an extra connection. Jason was there, when Damian was a baby. He didn’t remember his own name, and was used by the Al’Ghuls after they resurrected him...But he was still one of the only person in Damian’s life that truly valued him.
Fate, right ? A funny thing. After all, how small did the world have to be for two of Bruce’s sons to meet in such a way ? A hidden son, and one he thought dead, at that ?!
In any case. They were closer than most would think. And they also were linked not only by the Al’Ghuls, but by how they were both ripped off of an actual childhood, and therefor wanted to make sure their little brother had one too (Cass was the same, but more subtle, and discreet).
And so...
They played, made art pieces, jigsaw puzzles, watched his favorite movies, cooked...Anything to take his mind off of “Death”.
That little boy would overthink too much, for such a young age.
But overall, Damian and Jason did a good job distracting him from the pain.
They did an amazing job.
You were so proud of how they took care of their baby brother (and it would give yourself more time to go cheer up the “Oldest Wayne”, your dear husband, who definitely had a hard time getting over his dog’s death...).
Only, there was one problem...And that problem was that neither Damian nor Jason, just like everyone else, were immortal.
And this, this, Thomas would realize very soon.
************
“More compresses, Master Tim !”
“On it Al !”
The loud noises woke Thomas up. You knew. You knew you should’ve gone up to bed earlier. Tuck him in, and wait for your family to come back.
Ah. But when they all arrived in the cave, ALL of them, including Dick who did not live at the manor anymore...You knew there was a problem.
And indeed. Jason had been badly hurt. Not something that couldn’t be fixed, but ah, once again, too damn close.
Everyone was on the tail of a high profile serial killer, the newcomer called “Dr Pyg”, and...Collateral damage. It happened, in this line of work.
It wasn’t easy. Especially when it was one of your baby. But you had to keep a leveled head, as you helped Alfred fix your boy.
You had taken medical trainings early in in your relationship with Bruce. For obvious reasons. And there was rarely a day it didn’t come in handy.
In any case, all the noises around woke Thomas up.
Before. Before he knew what death truly meant, he would’ve been worried. He would've cried. He would’ve been distressed. Of course.
And one of his siblings would’ve taken care of him, reassure him, soothe and console him, and little Thomas would be ok again.
Before he knew what death truly meant.
He was so small anyway, most of the time he’d forget things, or just not understand them...but he was five now. Close to the age of reason. And definitely aware of his surroundings enough now to pay attention, and remember things.
And he knew what death truly meant.
He clung to Jason for dear life, even as everyone reassured him he was actually ok. Jason himself was conscious, he had been badly hurt but nothing he hadn’t seen before.
He needed some rest for sure, but it was fine, really.
It wasn’t fine for Thomas. He yelled, threw the biggest tantrum he ever threw, yelled some more that they should stop. That he didn’t want them to die. That whatever they were doing...He begged them to stop.
Never before in your life, had any of you witness Thomas being in such a state. He was inconsolable. You couldn’t calm him down, no matter what...
And once more, it’s only because of exhaustion that he finally relaxed. But yet, still in his sleep, he clung to Jason’s sleeve, as if afraid his brother would be gone when he’d wake up.
It tore yours and Bruce’s heart apart, to see your baby like this. But to be honest...neither of you knew what to do...
************
“Where’s Damian mama ? Where is he ?”
Thomas was truly panicked.
The first day, he thought maybe his brother was busy with school and such. The second day, he started to worry. But now ? Three days in a row with Damian not at the dinner table ? Or in his room ? Or in the batcave ?!
It made Thomas anxious. What happened to his brother ? Was he...was he...DID DEATH TAKE HIM AWAY ?
“Where’s Dami mama ? Where is he ?!” Thomas kept asking, crying. And it took you moment to finally realize what your son must’ve thought. When you did, you picked him up and calmed him down, explaining Damian was simply over at Jon’s for a few days...
And from that day on, you’d make sure to tell him why anyone would be gone for any amount of time.
That night, Bruce and you talked about what you could do to help Thomas get over his consuming fear of losing one of you.
But nothing really came to your minds.
And it was awful, to feel like a failure like that.
Later on, your Damian would tell you you were NOT failing at parents because you were a little lost about this. After all, none of your other kids got into quite a crisis like this one. He said maybe considering a therapist could do ? But oh, oh Thomas was so little.
And if words were out that Thomas Wayne, barely five years old, was seeing a therapist ? The scandals would be unending, and would it really help your son ?
Damian joined in in the search for a way to soothe his baby brother. He never said “no” to cuddles from him, but lately...Lately, Thomas almost became overbearing, as he made sure he’d always sort of have his eyes on everyone.
And it wasn’t healthy, for such a little boy to worry so much.
Damian missed his carefree baby brother. He knew he had to eventually grow up, of course, and that he’d have some hardships but...he was just five and a half ! He wasn’t suppose to be so scared of death !
And so he thought, nights and days, of a way to soothe him. But just like you and Bruce, this matter was quite delicate...
************
It seemed like Cass was the only one able to truly console him, and make him relax. She would sing him songs, just like you did to her when she felt sad.
She would tell him tales of Death as a good thing, inspiring herself from many legends from around the world.
She would try to put perspective on everything, in a way you truly admired.
She never spoke too much, your Cass...But when she did, every words were carefully chosen and crafted into truly beautiful things.
And it would soothe your boy.
But only as long as he was with Cass. And he couldn’t always be with her.
You didn’t have her talent to tell those tales, and your singing was working only for a few moments to put him to sleep but...you couldn’t always have him sleep. You had to think of more viable options.
Nonetheless, when Thomas was really too anxious, Cass would be there.
Relieving everyone of their worry, as she could calm her baby brother in matter of seconds. In those moments, you wished time could stop. You truly did...
************
Thomas would cling to you and his dad the most. His siblings were often out and about, but you two ? Well you took some time off to be with your youngest son, to be there for him in this odd times...
And you weren’t sure it was such a good idea, in the end.
He would often just snuggle up to you or Bruce, listening to your heartbeats, which would calm him...You’d normally never say no to hugs from your children. But this was all starting to become so unhealthy for the little one.
What could you do ? What could you do ?!
************
Duke was panicking.
Thomas was doing fine today, and Duke felt like he royally fucked up.
Thomas was worried about Duke, telling him to be careful and that his heart would break if Duke ever died...Which melted Duke’s heart.
It made him feel so loved and accepted. And he wanted to help little Thomas so much...
That’s when he made a rookie mistake.
After all, he was still quite new at this “big brother” thing.
“There are things worst than death.”
Is what he told him. What was he thinking ? Reflecting on things, Duke realized he didn't think it through. To him, it was a soothing way to say death wasn’t that bad. But...Ah, ah it made Thomas cry.
“What ? What is worst than not seeing you guys ever again ?!”
At that moment, Duke hadn’t realized quite yet how much he fucked up. So he said : “Well, my parents can't remember me, can’t remember who they are...They’re not dead, but they’re not here anymore. They’re physically here, but they don’t know me, they don’t know how to hug me, they can’t be my parents anymore...Yet they’re still alive.”
The horrified look on Thomas’ face is what gave him a hint that this really wasn’t a good thing to say...
“No no no wait Thomas, don’t cry please, I was trying to tell you...Wait Thomas, please, no. Oooh buddy, buddy I’m so sorry.”
It almost made Duke cry too, to witness the one he considered his little brother in such distress. He wasn’t trained for this ! He wasn’t trained for this !!!
This was the first time Duke truly felt like an older brother, truly felt like he understood this important role. He had to think before saying something. He had to protect his baby brother. He had to find ways to soothe him...
“Ok here we are, here we are everything is a-okay, you’re ok, things will be ok...”
Duke picked Thomas up, and started to rock him back and forth slowly, just like his own mom did to him...He mixed the way his mom used to put him to sleep, with your soothing singing. With words he borrowed from you.
“I’m here, I’m here. Don’t worry I’m here, I won’t go anywhere. Things will be ok baby boy, things will be ok. You’re gonna be ok. I’m not going anywhere. I didn’t mean any of it...”
Duke had been living with you for a while now. He came to see all of you as his second family, even as his parents were still alive, and a constant chain holding him back at times...a chain that broke right at this moment.
Thomas was his little brother. He truly was.
And Duke was determined to be there for him. Especially after he made him cry.
“It’s ok Tommy, cry all you want. It’s ok to cry. It’s ok to cry.”
You always told him that. It was ok to cry. To be angry. To want to break everything. To want his mom...
But you were his mom too now. You were. And you had such a way with words. Such a soothing touch. Even as he was grown up now, you always knew what to say. You always did.
“You’re ok, right ? Yeaaaah you’re ok. See, things are fine, we chill, we chill.”
Duke was slowly swaying from left to right, Thomas in his arm, slowly lulling him to sleep, calming him down. His voice seemed to have the same effect than yours...Because he was calm. And because he meant it.
The love.
The love he had for this little boy.
It poured out of him, easily, naturally.
He loved that kid so much. And he wanted him to be ok. And it seemed like Thomas ? Thomas felt it. He felt the love. Just like Duke felt the love of all of you...
That little bean put himself in such a state at the mere thought of Duke dying, of one of his brother leaving...And Duke. Duke realized he felt the same.
Couldn’t imagine any of them dying.
And so he poured love in his every word, and swayed from side to side, calming Thomas, and making sure he knew...He knew that, he was right there.
Right there.
************
“You’re getting old, Alfred.”
You said jokingly, as you beat him at chess. And oh. Oh what a mistake you just did.
“Old ? I don’t want you to die Alfred, I don’t !”
Thomas was playing next to you. You hadn’t thought about his “trauma” for a little while as he seemed to feel a little better lately...But oh, he plunged right back into it there.
Because of you. You felt absolutely awful...
“I’ll fight Death for you Alfred ! I will ! I won’t let her take you !!”
It took a while, as it became usual now, to calm him down. He was ready to throw hands with Death. Fierce that no one would take his “grandpa”. But he was still very scared and sad...
“I’m a terrible mother...”
You told Bruce that night. And he held you against him, consoling you, saying it wasn’t your fault and that it was just friendly banter with Alfred as usual...
“You are the literal opposite of a terrible mother, my love.”
“But Broosh, I made him- I-”
You sniff, unable to control your sobs as you remember your poor little boy holding Alfred and yelling at Death she can’t take him. The poor butler himself didn’t even know how he could do anything to calm him down...
“We’ll find a solution my love, we’ll find a solution...”
This entire night, Bruce stayed up although he was exhausted, so he could soothe you and take care of you. Skipping patrol (knowing though the city was safe with his children out).
At some point during the night, Thomas came to your room.
It was often, lately, that after a nightmare he’d come running to you. His nightmares would often be about losing you...
You had finally fallen asleep, in your husband’s arms, and Bruce gestured to your boy to not make too much noice.
Sweet little Thomas acquiesced, and slowly came to the bed, taking the hand his father gave him.
Bruce was about to fall asleep too, knowing you had finally found sleep...But now, he wasn’t going to. Not until he made sure his son was asleep as well.
All he could do for now, was being there for you two. Try to soothe you as best her could. As best he could...
Sleep was restless and full of nightmares.
************
Dick would try to often visit his parents and siblings. As much as he could, which wasn’t always easy, with his work in Bludhäven. But nothing is more sacred than family...He realized that over the years.
During those moments, it would be rather normal for Thomas to go settle in his oldest brother’s laps. He would make the most of seeing him.
So today, as Dick was in the kitchen trying to make himself a cup of coffee, it was no surprise when little Tommy came to see him.
You had bought a new espresso machine, and Dick had no idea how it worked...Slowly, his littlest brother came in, dragged a chair next to him, and used it to climb on the counter.
He then started to make Dick’s cup of coffee, without much of a word being exchanged. Dick smiled widely, his little bro was so cute and clever. In no time, he had make a great cup of coffee for him.
But...Something seemed to bother him. Tommy was an exuberant child when around his family, but he had been quiet right there. He didn’t jump in his brother’s arms like he usually does, and he wasn’t telling him all about what he missed since last time he came in !
Was it still this all thing about being worried about death ?
“Are you ok little wing ?”
Ever since Jason, “Little Wing” or “Bird” became the common denomination for his younger siblings. A term of endearment that they all (secretly or not) loved.
Tommy seemed to think a little, while raising his arms, signifying he wanted Dick to pick him up.
Dick did, of course, and they went to sit at the kitchen counter, and as usual, Tommy settled down on Dick’s laps. He turned around and, after another short pause (Dick always knew when to stay silent, and wait for the other person to speak first) said :
“Dickie, are mom and dad not your mom and dad ?”
“Mm ?”
“Your real mom and dad, they died ? You can’t see them no more now ?”
There was a lump in Dick’s throat. Not because he thought about his parents no. He actually came to peace with their death long ago now. And though he missed them every day, it didn’t hurt as much as it used to.
He was lucky to find another loving family...From which that little worried kiddo in front of him was an important part of.
“Yes, I can’t see them anymore.”
“It hurts ?”
“It used to. Now less. I miss them, but I wasn’t alone.”
“Because you have our mom and dad ?”
“Yes.”
Dick ruffles his hair fondly.
“Do you wish you’d still have your real mom and dad ?”
“Mom and dad ARE my real parents too. I was lucky enough to find new ones. Not everyone is as lucky, like dad. He was alone for a long time”
“What about Alfred ?”
“It took dad a while to realize that Alfred was a second father to him”
“So...Will you be my second dad if dad goes ?”
Dick feels another lump in his throat. Bigger this time.
He couldn’t even imagine the day he’ll lose this “second dad”, this one he had now called “dad” for longer even than his own biological father...Dick was 8, when he came into yours and Bruce’s life.
He spend more years with you two than with his “real” parents. You never replaced them, no. You just..became his parents too.
He would never forget his biological parents. But he would never diminish the impact his adoptive one had. The love you and Bruce gave him.
Would he be good enough to be Thomas “second dad” ? After all, he currently had about the age Bruce had when he adopted him...
But Dick couldn’t imagine losing Bruce too. Losing another father. No. He couldn’t. He couldn’t.
Thomas was already moving on, asking more questions :
“Will I find another mom and dad too if mom and dad die ? Or will I be alone like dad ? Will I have Alfred forever ?”
“I-I don’t know buddy.”
“What if I lose all of you at the same time ? I will be all alone then.”
“You won’t.”
“But what if I do ?”
“I’ll always be there.”
“You can’t know that, can you ?”
“Maybe, but this will never happen. You will never be alone.”
“You really think so ?”
“I Do. And I promise little wing, I promise...You won’t lose all of us. You won’t.”
Dick held his brother even tighter against him, and missed the unconvinced expression on Thomas’ face.
************
Your youngest son was still utterly terrified of losing any of you. But his terrible fit would pass now, he would calm down more easily, and wouldn’t cry until exhaustion...But it didn’t mean he wasn't afraid anymore.
Unfortunately.
“Death” was still a constant on his mind. One of the biggest question. Without much answers.
His mother and father said no one knew what happened after “death”, but Thomas wasn’t convinced. So he went to the only one he knew would tell him the truth, and was most likely to know...Tim.
His older brother was currently in the garden, studying for his finals. But oh he’d take a break for his little brother, of course.
Especially lately, as said little brother was overly worried and needed constant reassurance.
“Hi Timmy.”
“Hey little one.”
“Bothering you ?”
“You are not bothering me, never.”
“Can I ask you a question then ?”
“Of course.”
“What happens when we die ?”
Oof.
OOOOF.
Not something Tim could say he expected to be asked. Even as he knew Thomas was sort of obsessed with this lately. And ah...Ah he started to get lost into physiological effects of death, into science, into things Thomas could definitely not understand...
And into things he didn’t care about.
Thomas had no interest in knowing what happens to the corporeal side of things. To our bodies. He wanted to know where “we” went. Where the being went. The conscience.
Of course he wouldn’t word it that way, but it was easy to understand that it was what he meant when he said : “where do we go when we die ?”.
After a long time of Tim getting lost in many complex explanations about decomposition (what the Hell Tim ?), he finally stopped as he saw that Thomas was most definitely lost.
“Where do we go after we die ?”
“Yes. What happens ? You must know, you know everything !”
The faith his littlest brother put in him made him feel warm inside but...unfortunately on this subject he had to disappoint him.
“I..I don’t know about this, actually.”
Thomas looked crestfallen. Was nothing sacred anymore ?? Death existed, and the one he thought would always have a solution to everything didn’t know something that important !!
“There’s many theories.”
“What’s a theories ?”
“One theory, multiple theories. A theory is...an idea of how things might work.”
“What are the theory ?”
“Theories, plural.”
“What are the theories ?”
“Well. Some people think that you go into some kind of afterlife. It depends the culture, and the religion, and...many other factors. But there’s usually a few places we can end up.”
“And we’ll see the people who died there ? We’ll see them again ?”
“Supposedly so.”
“Is it sure ?”
“No, it’s just a theory.”
“You said a theory is an idea of how things might work.”
“An idea that might not be proven.”
“What’s the point then ?”
“Theorizing.”
“I don’t understand...”
Of course he didn’t, he was a smart little boy...But still just five. Tim sat down to his level, and looked at him in the eyes :
“Well. You have to understand that um...No one knows what happens after death. So we have to make theories, things that might or might not be. You understand ?”
“No.”
“Well, since we don’t know, we make things up. But maybe those things are right. Maybe they aren’t.”
“So the answer is we don't know ?”
“Yes. But there are theories ?”
“Ok. So aside from the place we see others again, what are the theories ?”
“Well (...)”
Tim was a patient boy. For hours and hours, he tried to explain every single “theory” people might’ve had about what happens after Death. And Thomas listened carefully.
Finally, Tim was done, and his brother said :
“So...No one really knows, and there’s a lot of theory...ies. Theories.”
“Basically.”
Thomas looked so discouraged. Tim was very well aware that none of what he told him really helped his brother, or reassured him...But ah. Tim was known to not lie. Which was a good thing. And he couldn’t possibly have a free conscience if he had told his brother just one theory of the after life, the nicest one, just to reassure him.
Of course, he wanted to reassure him. To distract him. But he would do so another way. Lying to him was not it.
Still, it was so disheartening to see this sweet little boy so crestfallen.
“Um, Well...I guess some people know.”
Thomas looked up at his brother, hopeful, waiting for him to continue.
“Like Constantine. But um, he’s sort of crazy. And dad doesn't want him around the house for...reasons you’ll understand when you’ll grow up. And-”
Ah but Thomas wasn’t listening to Tim anymore, and his monologue as to why maybe John Constantine wasn’t such a reliable source.
“Constantine” huh ? Interesting. Ah. Sometimes, Tim forgot how smart his little brother truly was...for a five years old. And how he took after his father, when it came to memory and attention to details.
************
This constant worry went on for quite just a few days. A few very eventful days, that were so...exhausting. Thomas was constantly scared for your lives, and would cry if anyone got hurt too much.
He would follow you around, and be way too stressed for such a little bean.
Everyone came to hide their injuries from him, tried to distract him from what they were doing when out as the Bats...But it was becoming a real problem.
How ? How could they make a little five years old understand that he couldn’t forever be afraid of death ? It was impossible. None of you, not even you, had the right words. There were no right words anyway.
You could tell him whatever you wanted, it’d never make him stop thinking about Death taking one of you with her, taking one of you far away from him.
“A place he cannot follow you to.”
How ? How could you help ?!
But the change had to come from within him, you would soon realize.
About a week after Ace’s death, and a truly painful few days of everyone being lost and unable to help the baby of the family... he suddenly spoke up, at dinner time :
“Mama, mama, if one day you die, I will bring you back. I promise. Same for daddy, and Dick, and Jason, and Cass, and Tim, and Duke, and Damian, and Alfred. I don’t know if we can bring dogs back, but humans yes ? And worst case scenario, I’ll conjure your spirit so I can say goodbye, and then I’ll know we’ll see each others again !”
“Wh-What ?”
“Stunned” doesn’t quite cover how you felt at your son’s sudden tirade, at dinner that night. Everyone was here, a rare occasion. Your one dinner a months that was mandatory for all your kids ! To make sure you’d all have moments together.
And boom. Came this monologue out of nowhere, from your small little five and a half years old son.
Stunned. Not a strong word enough to describe you, or your other children.
But Bruce. Oh Bruce. Bruce was frowning. Narrowing his eyes in a way you knew perfectly well...It meant he was angry at someone.
“Who told you all this, son ?”
“Mister Constantine.”
A growl. A scary growl. From deep within your husband’s throat. You would NOT want to be John next time he’d see
“How did you talk to him ?”
“I used your phone.”
“I don’t have his number on my...Wait, the bat phone ?!”
“Yes. The one you call uncle Clark on !”
“What the-...how did you-ugh ?!”
There were so many questions. So many.
“I copied what you do, on the phone. And I asked it if it could call the Constantine.”
“The Constantine”, this better not be a stupid way he called himself in front of his son, Bruce thought. Ah, and curse the fact he kept having kids that were too damn smart for their own good !
Kids this days. Growing up with technology. Able to work a batphobe at age 5 and a half !!
“Hope I helped little man - John Constantine”, said the note that came to the manor a few days later. Which made Bruce fume with rage, but Thomas beam happily.
Bruce was already planning to go after John, and force him to say what he told his son. But...But...
To be honest. Whatever he said. You didn’t care. You knew, more than anyone else, that “Death” wasn’t as definitive as it sounded at times. And you knew for certain there was something after you died. What ? You couldn’t be sure. But something. Another place. Or maybe reincarnation ? Who knew.
Deep in your heart though, you knew that no matter what, if you ever were to die...You’d see your family again. You weren’t sure how or where. It was just a certainty in your heart. A gut feeling.
Yes. You didn’t care what John told your son. If it could help him accept that everyone will die one day. Didn’t mean he wasn’t afraid of losing you anymore. Oh no. But at least...At least he knew worrying about it lead nowhere. And to truly enjoy the moments of the present.
Whatever John said, it helped your son. That’s all that mattered. And as Thomas would grow up, you knew he’d understand things more and more.
He already knew he was luckier than many people. He had a loving family. They were all there with him for now (minus Ace, whom he missed every day). A lot of people couldn’t say the same thing.
Death was an odd thing. Especially in the World you lived in.
It wasn’t as definitive as some would say.
Your family knew that more than anyone else.
Death was an odd thing, that wasn’t always the ultimate end...
This, one day, Thomas would truly understand.
The end

And here we are :). Just a quick thing again, my bigger story (fake boyfriend trope with Bruce hehe) is coming soon. But in the mean time, felt compelled to write about this. I hope you enjoyed reading it, and liked it ? Not my best work :/, another quick drabble written very late at night eh. But nonetheless, fun to write ? Hope it’s not a disappointment, it’s just a thing to make ya wait for a more elaborate thing that I took a lot of care writing. Anyway it’s 4 am, time for bed :).
If you did, don’t hesitate to leave a little feedback or/and to reblog :). If you didn’t as well really, it’s always good to know what’s not good so I can improve (just stay civil please).
PS : Bonus point if you get where I’m trying to arrive at with those last few words about how definitive death is :p.

no grave can hold my body down – 1/2
Character: Jason Todd x Fem!Reader
Summary: It took time to get Jason Todd away from the darkness. Sometimes it felt like he was always standing at a tipping point, at risk of completely losing himself. But not when he was with her. She made him better and she would continue to make him better.
Word Count: 5,500
A/N: I am very new to this fandom and extremely nervous to write something for it. To clarify, I have not read any of the comics. But I’ve watched a lot of the TV and movie adaptations, and have done a lot of research. Jason is much older in this – like 30? – and therefore the rest of the BatFam is older, as well. But this takes place after Jason Todd is resurrected, but is still on rocky territory with his family.
Jason dropped down to the fire escape of his apartment with a quietness that seemed impossible for how large he was.
On the other side of the small fire escape, Y/N sat with a blanket over her lap, a book in her hand, and a mug of coffee balanced perfectly on the metal grates.
“Thought I told you not to wait up for me,” Jason greeted, knowing she noticed his arrival, but just kept reading her book. His book, to be precise.
It was almost 4AM and Jason had called it a night after taking out an entire drug cartel. It had been a lot of waiting, until it finally led up to 20 minutes of utter chaos. He left them on a silver platter for the police to arrest them and actually clean up the mess.
Y/N finally looked up at him and he saw how tired her eyes seemed. But she gave him a soft smile, clearly happy to see him home and...alive.
A pang of guilt went through him. He did that to her.
“Couldn’t sleep,” she told him with a shrug.
Jason slowly nodded. Then he nudged his head towards the book, “Jane Eyre again?”
She smirked. “It’s a comfort read.”
He smiled back at her – which she couldn’t even see, because he was still wearing the red helmet that covered his entire head.
“You shouldn’t stay out here so long. It’s too cold.”
I was waiting for you,” she countered.
“I thought you couldn’t sleep.”
“I couldn’t…because I was worried about you,” she finally admitted.
There it was.
“You have a voicemail on your cellphone. Alfred called,” she quickly added to change the subject.
Jason left his personal cellphone at home when he was on patrol, not wanting any sort of pointless distractions. Y/N had a direct line to his comms if there was an emergency, which was the only thing he cared about. His old family could figure out ways to contact him if they really wanted to. But he didn’t go out of his way to give them that info.
“Get inside before you catch a cold,” he told her as he nodded toward the open window.
She chuckled at his attempt to sound stern. It was hard for her to take it seriously. But she listened to him anyway, knowing that if she tried to ignore him, it would end in him dragging her inside. And that was not a physical battle she ever had a chance at winning.
30 minutes later, Y/N was laying in bed and still reading her book as Jason tried to erase the night.
He always took long, scolding showers after patrol. Even if there was no blood to be washed away, there was always a need to cleanse himself of…something.
Y/N had asked him if he was hurt as she crawled through the window back inside their apartment.
“I’m fine,” he’d insisted.
But she knew “fine” just meant he didn’t need stitches, or bones reset, or the need to call the actual doctor he had a certain under-the-table deal with. She also knew she shouldn’t be surprised when he took off his clothes and she would see new bruises and shallow cuts covering his skin.
Jason finally crawled into bed with nothing but his black briefs. His hair still wet from the burning shower he just took.
He let out a sigh and stared up at the ceiling.
It was always a battle for Y/N, trying to figure out when to leave Jason to his thoughts and when to force him to talk. She knew he couldn’t drown himself in his own mind. But she also knew she couldn’t pretend to be his therapist.
“J?” She asked him softly as she put her book down.
“Hmm?” He asked, looking at her.
“You OK?”
He nodded.
She let it be.
Jason turned his gaze back to the ceiling. “Alfred has a foundation to raise money for under-funded schools in Gotham. It’s all him, but it has Bruce’s name all over it so all the rich assholes will want to save face with the Wayne family by donating.”
“I can support that type of manipulation,” Y/N said with a smirk.
“He holds a gala at Wayne Manor for it every year. Gets them at least a mil every time.”
She listened closely.
Then Jason looked at her again. “He asked me to come this year.”
“Oh,” her face fell.
Jason had told Y/N about his tumultuous relationship with his family. While he mended most of the damage with his brothers, he wasn’t quite willing to do so with Bruce. Y/N didn’t try to push Jason to reconcile with his adoptive father. She understood his heartbreak and frustrations there. She wasn’t a huge fan of Bruce herself after learning the damage he’d done to her boyfriend.
But it was because of the past traumas that Y/N hadn’t met any of Jason’s hodgepodge, vigilante family.
She also guessed that it was his overprotectiveness of her that stopped him from wanting to fully submerge her in that part of his life. To Jason, the less she knew about the Bat Family, the safer she was.
“He asked me to bring you, too.” Jason suddenly added.
Y/N blinked. “I…I didn’t realize they knew about me.”
He smirked at that. “Of course they do.”
“Even Bruce?”
His smirk disappeared. “Well, I didn’t tell him. But he’s a nosey son of a bitch. And even if he didn’t figure it out for himself, one of my brothers probably ran their mouth.”
Y/N didn’t think Jason and Bruce had a conversation out of uniform since he became the Red Hood. Probably hadn’t even addressed each other by their actual names in years.
Y/N fully turned on her side to face her boyfriend and scooted closer. “What do you want to do?” She asked carefully.
Jason sighed and ran a hand through his hair. Then he too turned on his side and stole a look at her. She looked so tired, but still beautiful. He knew he put her through too much. He didn’t deserve her. And she deserved a better man than he could ever be. He had guilt on his conscience, blood on his hands. He was the poster child for the harshness that was Gotham. She was a normal woman who would’ve never gotten mixed up in this world if it weren’t for him.
But Y/N insisted that she wanted to be here. Told him so by just staying each and every day, and never questioning her decision. Even left New York City to slum it in Gotham with him.
Jason brushed some hair away from her face.
“You’d come with me?”
Her face scrunched from him even feeling the need to ask. “Of course.” Then she gave him a sad look, “I’ve been wanting to meet your family for awhile.”
“Why didn’t you say anything?” He asked.
Her eyes darkened. “You know why, J.”
He stayed silent.
“Listen, I know things haven’t been…good with your family. But I also know that they raised you. Whether you want to admit it or not, a lot of the man you are today is because of them. And I happen to love that man. So, yeah, I’ve wanted to meet them.”
Jason had a look full of love that he was trying to contain. “Come here,” he demanded with a grin.
Y/N giggled and moved into his arms.
Jason immediately pivoted her body so she was hovering over him. Without any hesitation, he pulled her down for a kiss.
“It’s gonna be filled with rich snobs and ass kissers. Don’t go hoping for a fun time,” he warned her as he narrowed his gaze playfully.
“Then you’re really gonna need me there. Who else is gonna make fun of them with you?” She teased.
Then a thought suddenly occurred to her. “Will this be a fancy affair?”
“Unfortunately.”
Her gaze darkened. “So, I’m gonna see you in a suit, huh?”
Jason pinched her sides.
Y/N yelped before laughing, “Do you even own a suit? I’ve never seen it in your closet.”
Suddenly he flipped her body so he was now the one hovering over her. Y/N couldn’t ignore Jason’s massive size when she was caged below him like that. “You’re on thin ice, kid.”
“Oooh. I’m so scared,” she mocked.
Jason almost looked offended.
But he sighed, getting back to the previous subject. “If I have to wear a suit, that means you have to wear a dress.”
“Or I could wear a suit, too.” She countered and raised a brow at him.
He smirked at her challenge. “I wouldn’t mind seeing you in one either.”
That seemed to please her.
“I promise I’ll look real pretty. Ya know, really play the part of the arm candy for the famous Jason Todd.”
Jason scoffed. “You’re always beautiful.” Then his gaze darkened. “And the arm candy was always Bruce and Dick’s thing. Not mine.”
“OK. So what should I be?”
“My accomplice,” Jason confirmed.
——————————————————
Y/N fidgeted in the back seat of the car as the black car drove to the outskirts of Gotham and to the Wayne Estate.
Jason had sent her a text from his patrol comms about something coming up. Vague, as always. He did it to keep her in the dark as much as possible.
Apparently he’d tried to tell Alfred they couldn’t make it. But the old man wouldn’t let him off the hook that easily. He told Jason he’d send a car for Y/N and that he better show up too.
Y/N had worn her fanciest dress, curled her hair, and done her makeup to perfection. She knew she could dress the part, but it was the acting bit that had her stressed out.
Despite Jason’s relationship with his family, she still dreaded the thought that they wouldn’t like her and that they wouldn’t approve. Yeah, they were secretly vigilantes, but they were also the richest people in Gotham.
Y/N swallowed as the car parked right outside the front entrance of Wayne Manor. There seemed to already be hundreds of people there. Everyone looked rich and fancier than Y/N could ever even pretend to be.
‘You’re here for Jason. You’re here for Jason.’ She repeated in her mind as the driver opened the door for her and offered his hand.
Y/N told herself to become a character as she held her head high and made her way into the mansion.
“Mansion” didn’t even seem to cover it. Y/N felt like she was in a Jane Austen novel or Downton Abbey.
Guests eyed her as soon as she made her way inside. She was much younger than the general demographic of the party. It seemed that old money also meant literally old.
She did a once over to see if she could find Jason. But he was nowhere to be found. Y/N decided she needed a drink to face a gala full of unwelcoming strangers alone.
She ignored the curious and judgmental gazes as she made her way to one of the many bars set up through the home.
‘Maybe red was too much,’ her imposter syndrome was telling her. Clearly it was making her stick out. But she knew Jason loved seeing her in red.
Y/N quickly ordered a strong drink from the bartender, who was kind enough to sense that this young woman needed liquid courage and she needed it fast.
“Are you sure you meant to use that bottle?” A male voice came up beside her, speaking to the bartender on her behalf.
Y/N turned to see a very boyishly handsome man with blue eyes and brown hair so dark that it was almost black.
He gave that bartender a look and Y/N watched as he nervously grabbed the much more expensive brand – the one Y/N would never in her life buy for herself.
“Thank you,” Y/N said as politely as possible when the bartender slid the drink towards her.
Then she turned her attention to the young man. “You didn’t have to do that.”
He gave her a crooked smirk. “You deserve the very best.”
Y/N might not have ever met Jason’s brothers. But they were famous enough to make frequent appearances in the media. Everyone in Gotham knew what the Wayne kids looked like. Especially Dick Grayson, who seemed to thrive in the spotlight in a similar manner to his father.
“Oh? And how do you know what I deserve? You don’t know me at all,” Y/N challenged with a tilt of her head.
Her sass seemed to excite him.
“Well, I was hoping, since I saved you from the cheap stuff, that you’d give me a chance to.”
Y/N shook her head with an almost baffled smile. This faux charm and air of confidence was so unlike Jason’s. While Jason was quietly confident and sure of himself. It came almost from a place of nihilism. But Dick…Dick had an edge of haughtiness and self importance.
“Your reputation precedes you, Dick Grayson,” Y/N cooed, with mischievous glint in her gaze, before taking a sip of her drink. He was right: this was the good stuff.
Dick’s amusement seemed to falter now that she confessed to knowing exactly who he was. “And what reputation is that exactly?”
“Cocky, charming…flirtatious.”
Dick didn’t seem to mind these adjectives at all. In fact, he seemed rather proud of himself. He stepped a little closer to her. “It feels a little unfair that you seem to know me, but I haven’t even gotten your name.”
Y/N tried to suppress her smile. She was really starting to enjoy this little game. “You’ll realize soon enough.”
“Well, until then…” He stepped even closer and somehow managed to put his hand on her back without it feeling creepy. “Would you like to dance?”
“Move that hand any lower, Dick, and I’ll fuckin’ break it,” Jason said from behind Y/N.
Dick barely moved away from Y/N, but looked at his brother with confusion.
Y/N turned and maneuvered her body away from Dick’s grasp.
Then she smiled at Jason as she took in the sight of her boyfriend wearing a suit. Like, a real suit, not one made for a vigilante. He managed to tame his hair without using too much product. And his face had its signature scruff but cleaned up a bit.
“How long has this one been annoying you?” Jason asked her.
“Not long,” she replied before giving him a sweet kiss.
Y/N turned to face Dick again, but remained close to Jason’s side. On instinct alone, Jason placed his hand on her back and pulled her even closer. It wasn’t possessive, but a habit he formed to comfort himself.
Dick blinked as his mind clearly figured out the change in situation.
“You’re Y/N?” He asked her.
She smirked. “Told you that you’d realize it soon enough.”
“Dick, this is my girlfriend, Y/N. Y/N, this is, Dick Grayson.”
Y/N didn’t miss how Jason didn’t refer to Dick as his brother.
To his credit, Dick recovered rather quickly and politely offered his hand. Y/N didn’t hesitate to shake it. After all, she still wanted to make a good impression on his family. And the flirting was harmless.
“I apologize for…” Dick’s words died out.
“Hitting on me?” Y/N offered with a laugh. “I would say I’m flattered, but I’m sure I’m one of many women you will be making moves on tonight.”
“Do it again, and I’ll swap out the rubber bullets in my guns, Dick.” Jason half warned and half joked.
Dick seemed unfazed by the threat. “Why don’t you say it a little louder so more people can hear?”
Jason ignored his brother’s warning.
He turned his gaze down to Y/N. “Let’s go introduce you to Alfred.”
Jason held her hand as he made his way through the crowd. It wasn’t hard to do. Y/N assumed it had to do with him technically being a Wayne or perhaps it was his large and imposing frame that told people to get the hell out of his way.
Then Y/N was standing in front of an elderly man who had perfect posture and mischievous edge to his welcoming smile.
“Master Jason, I see that you have finally brought Ms. Y/L/N for me to meet,” Alfred said with a smile.
Out of all his siblings and father, Alfred seemed to be the only family member that Jason didn’t hold any sort of grudge against. Though Y/N wasn’t really sure what anyone would have against him. From everything she heard, he sounded absolutely lovely.
He held out his hand, which Y/N instantly went to shake. But instead, Alfred brought her hand to his lips and placed a kiss on her knuckles. There was something about this family that made everything they do seem charming rather than creepy and uncomfortable.
Y/N laughed at the gesture. “It’s so nice to meet you, Alfred. I’ve heard so much about you.”
He patted her hand before letting it go gently. “I wish I could say the same for you, dear. But it would appear Master Jason prefers to keep you entirely to himself.”
She just gave him a polite – yet controlled – smile. Another side effect of Jason being overprotective of her.
“Thank you for sending the car for me. You didn’t have to do that,” she told him.
“Oh, nonsense. I would not allow this one to use any excuse for missing tonight.”
Y/N asked him about his foundation with genuine interest. Alfred answered all of her questions with enthusiasm. She wondered how often Alfred got to talk about normal things with the Wayne family. She could only imagine the manor was entirely consumed with matters of vigilantism.
Alfred also asked Y/N far more questions about herself than she was prepared for. It made her realize that Jason really did keep her quite the secret. Y/N knew she shouldn’t be offended by it, but it made her sad that Jason’s family had clearly shown such an interest in her. Had she known, she may have put more pressure on Jason to introduce her.
There was a lull in conversation when Alfred’s gaze turned to Jason.
“Have you spoken with him yet?” He asked evenly.
They all know who ‘him’ was.
“I’m here for you, Alfred.” Jason quickly answered. “And we’ve kept you selfishly to ourselves for far too long. I’m sure everyone here wants to talk with you.”
Nice save.
Alfred dipped his head and lowered his voice, “Oh, you are two of the few people here whom I actually wish to converse with…” He finished with a wink before leaving them.
“And here I thought you got all your charm from Bruce Wayne,” Y/N teased her boyfriend.
But when she looked up at Jason, he had a dazed looked in his eyes.
“Hey,” she squeezed his hand in comfort. “You don’t need to talk to him if you don’t want to. In fact, we can go now if you want.”
Jason snapped out of it then. “And leave without destroying this open bar? Absolutely not.” Then he seemed to take her in for the first time that night. “Plus, you deserve to be shown off.”
He leaned down to her ear. “I was so distracted with saving you from Dick that I didn’t get the chance to tell you how beautiful you looked tonight.”
No matter how many times he said things like that to her or made her feel this way, she still managed to blush at such compliments.
And for good measure, Jason sealed the praise with a kiss, lightly gripping her chin to make sure she didn’t escape too soon for his liking.
He barely pulled away from her lips when he smiled and muttered, “Come on. Let’s go steal ourselves a bottle of Dom Pérignon.”
“Jason,” she scolded in a whisper, “Those cost like $2,000!”
“Exactly.”
The next hour or so was filled with Jason and Y/N drinking champagne while standing in a corner that protected them from being interrupted. And Y/N did exactly as she promised: joking with Jason about all the stuck up rich people that just came to kiss ass and social climb.
They were laughing about an old man that was desperately trying to hit on a young woman half his age when someone politely cleared their throat beside them.
But Jason smiled at the interruption.
A young man, who couldn’t be older than his early 20s, was giving Y/N a delighted smile. However, the first thing she noticed were the shadows under his eyes and how tired he looked. But that didn’t stop his excitement from showing.
“Y/N, this is my younger brother, Tim Drake. Tim, this is my girlfriend, Y/N.”
With a dorky enthusiasm, he shook her hand. “It’s nice to meet you, Y/N. We’ve all been annoying Jason about bringing you around for quite some time.”
She smiled, “So I’ve heard…” Then she gave Jason a subtle accusatory look.
Tim’s face turned serious, as if he just remembered why he came over in the first place. “I’m sorry to interrupt. Jason would you mind…umm…looking at something for me real quick?”
Jason’s back straightened.
Tim was trying to be polite to the two’s relationship by keeping out any and all details pertaining to their night life.
But it was clear to Y/N that was what Tim was referring to.
Jason looked down at her.
“You don’t have to babysit me,” she teased him. “Go. I can entertain myself.”
He kissed her cheek and whispered, “If I’m not back in 30 minutes, please come rescue me.”
She chuckled. “I would, but I’m not sure I’m going to be able to find you...”
“I’ll bring him back in no time, Y/N. Promise.” Tim told her with a beaming smile.
Y/N watched them go and Jason gave her one last reluctant look over his shoulder before he disappeared around a corner.
Y/N sighed and poured another glass of champagne and told herself it was time to mingle. But when she looked up, there wasn’t a single person that looked like they had any interest in making new friends.
‘Some party this is,’ she thought to herself before abandoning her post and deciding to take herself on a tour of Wayne Manor.
Y/N decided she wanted to escape the curious and judgmental gazes of the party, and found herself in a darker hallway. Candles were lit everywhere, giving it a gothic semblance.
Y/N’s heartbeat quickened when she realized she’d discovered a hallway filled with artwork. Millions upon millions of dollars worth of artwork, to be precise.
She was glad no one else seemed to have wandered this far, for she could take her time to look at all of it.
“I think you might be the only guest of the manor who has ever taken the time to look at the artwork.”
Y/N jumped at the voice and turned to see the infamous Bruce Wayne watching her with what seemed to be amusement.
He was nearly as tall as Jason – nowhere near as stout, though. But that didn’t seem to matter because he had an intimidating presence that had Y/N realizing it made perfect sense that this man was also Batman.
She had no idea how long she’d been staring at the paintings. It was easy for her to get lost in art. It tended to consume her.
“Well, not everyone has a Caravaggio casually hanging in their home.”
Bruce chuckled at that.
“Sorry,” she quickly told him. “I didn’t mean to snoop. I feel like I’m at the Louvre.”
“Please,” he declined such an apology. “No one in that party could tell the difference between an oil and acrylic painting. It’s refreshing to meet someone who can appreciate art.” He paused. “Have you been?”
“Have I been where?”
“To the Louvre.”
“Oh,” she laughed. “Umm...no, sadly. It’s been my dream to go to Paris in general. I don’t speak French, though. So I don’t know how that would work out.”
Bruce Wayne seemed to be listening closely and had genuine interest in what she was saying. Which felt strange to her for some reason.
Suddenly, Y/N felt like she shouldn’t be talking to him. Jason made it clear he had no intention of making peace tonight. So Y/N figured she was meant to keep her distance as well.
“I’m…” she began.
“Y/F/N Y/L/N,” Bruce finished for her.
She raised a brow, unimpressed.
Of course Batman would know every single person coming into his home. He probably caught her lingering in this hallway from multiple hidden security cameras.
He reached out his hand. “Bruce Wayne.”
She hesitated, her eyes flickering between his fixed stare and his offered hand.
But it ended with her shaking it, nonetheless.
“Thank you for bringing Jason tonight. I have a feeling he would’ve never shown had it not been for you.”
Y/N’s jaw clenched in an attempt to stop herself from lashing out at Bruce.
Yes, Jason was protective of her. But Y/N was also protective of Jason.
It wasn’t the Wayne family that talked Jason out of the darkness. They weren’t the one who comforted him after his nightmares. They weren’t the one who kissed and touched the autopsy scars that he was ashamed of. They weren’t the one who made him realize he wasn’t a failure or a monster, that he was worth something.
That was Y/N.
And she wasn’t going to let any of them cause him to relapse.
“Did he tell you not to talk to me?” Bruce questioned.
He wasn’t one to beat around the bush.
Y/N narrowed her eyes. “Jason doesn’t tell me what to do.”
Bruce smirked at how she didn’t back down and met his confrontation with confidence. “You’re not too fond of me, are you?”
Y/N shifted her weight a bit, but kept quiet, not wanting to confirm or deny his suspicions.
“I’m not sure what Jason told–”
“He told me everything,” Y/N cut him off sharply.
Bruce tilted his head. “Surely not everything.” Proving that he knew Jason completely kept Y/N away from his vigilante and crime life.
Then Y/N lost her composure and took a step toward Bruce. “You call him your greatest failure,” she accused him.
“Because I let him down.”
“But it doesn’t matter how you meant it. How do you think that makes him feel?”
Bruce’s body tensed and his jaw tightened.
Suddenly a dog came running out of nowhere and nearly tackled Y/N. She managed to stay on her feet, but her glass of champagne was knocked from her grasp and shattered on the floor.
“Titus!” Bruce growled at the dog.
A second later, a boy came running.
“Damian, what did I tell you about keeping pets away from parties,” Bruce scolded.
“I apologize,” Damian told Y/N in a voice that should’ve belonged to an adult, rather than a pre-teen boy. But he seemed rather annoyed that he had to apologize to a stranger.
Y/N chuckled at the black Great Dane. She barely had to bend down to pet the giant dog. “It’s fine. Dogs are always my favorite people I meet at parties.”
Damian looked between his father and Y/N, immediately getting the sense that she was not the average party guest.
“Who’s she?” He asked bluntly.
“Damian, this is Y/F/N Y/L/N.” Bruce gestured with an upturned palm.
“Todd’s companion?” Damian stated, clearly sounding unimpressed.
Jesus. They really did all know about her.
“Damian…” was all Bruce said to warn his son.
“I don’t know what you see in him.”
“That’s enough, Damian.” Bruce snapped.
That finally got the boy to shut his mouth.
Y/N was about to tell both of them that it was fine. She had expected such greetings from Jason’s youngest brother.
But her attention was diverted when she noticed Jason standing at the edge of the hallway.
Bruce followed her gaze.
There was a stare down between the two men that felt like an hour to Y/N.
“Jason,” Bruce greeted steadily.
Jason looked at his family coldly. “Bruce,” he replied with even less emotion. Then he looked down at his youngest brother, “Demon Spawn.”
“Todd,” Damian spat back.
Jason’s gaze softened when it landed on Y/N. Ignoring the tension, he reached out a hand in her direction. “We should say our goodbyes to Alfred.”
Y/N nodded and walked to her boyfriend, taking his hand and giving it a squeeze.
He quickly guided them back to the party without a second glance to Bruce and Damian.
As soon as they were in a mass of people again, Y/N turned to Jason to ask him if he was OK. A part of her felt guilty, like she’d been caught doing something bad by being alone with Bruce Wayne.
But Jason seemed to sense her concern and spoke before she could. “I’m stealing another bottle of champagne before we go,” and quickly went to the bar.
“He lasted longer than I expected,” Dick’s voice came up beside her.
Y/N barely glanced at him. “I’m proud of him,” was all she replied, as they both watched him.
“I apologize for my behavior earlier. I’m afraid I didn’t give you the best first impression.”
Y/N fully turned to face him and laughed lightly. “I promise I won’t hold it against you.”
“I’m sure you think we’re all just being polite…but all of us really were looking forward to meeting you, Y/N.”
“Even Damian?” She teased.
Dick laughed. “Well, rumor is that Titus took an immediate liking to you. And Damian trusts his pets’ judgement of character more than any of ours.”
News really did travel fast in this family.
Y/N smiled at that. “I’ve wanted to meet all of you for so long. I’m glad we finally made it happen.” She went back to their original topic.
Dick winced. “I’d rather not think about what Jason’s said about us…”
“I think you might be pleasantly surprised,” she countered.
“Ready to go?” Jason interrupted, ignoring Dick.
For good measure, he dipped down to kiss Y/N’s bare shoulder.
“Yeah, let’s go say bye to Alfred.”
But she turned back to Dick. And to everyone’s surprise, she wrapped him into a hug. Dick was surprised, but welcomed the gesture.
“Please keep an eye on him out there,” she whispered to him quietly enough so Jason didn’t have a chance of overhearing.
“Of course,” he told her.
————————
Bruce pretended to be listening to a conversation with old family friends as he watched Y/N and Jason hug Alfred goodbye.
He noticed Y/N say something to Alfred that made the butler’s face go serious. Then she handed him a business card.
Bruce wanted to talk with Jason. He’d been both dreading and looking forward to tonight, hoping a miracle would occur and he could finally mend things with his son.
But the way Jason had looked at him, Bruce knew everything he was feeling and it was clear Jason wasn’t going to let things go between them any time soon.
Bruce politely excused himself and went to Alfred’s side.
“What was that last bit about?” Bruce asked, indirectly telling Alfred that he’d been observing their conversation.
Now the two men both watched Jason and Y/N from a window that gave a view of the front drive.
Y/N threw her head back and laughed loudly at something Jason had whispered in her ear.
“She asked if I could teach her first aid.”
They both know it went much deeper than first aid. Y/N was asking Alfred to show her how to stitch wounds, how to extract bullets, when to know Jason was too hurt to be fixed up by his inexperienced girlfriend.
“She’s good for him,” Bruce thought aloud.
“That she is, Master Bruce.”
“I forgot what his laugh sounded like.” Bruce paused for a moment before adding, “I’ve never seen him smile like this. Not even before…” His words died. They both knew what ‘before’ was referring to.
Suddenly Y/N pointed to Jason as she walked backwards, clearly giving him a warning of some sort.
But Jason ignored her as he grabbed her by the waist and threw her over his shoulder. One of his hands was wrapped tightly around her thighs, securing her body to his chest, while the other hand held a bottle of champagne.
They could hear Y/N’s laughter, even from inside the mansion.
Alfred observed how Bruce watched his second son. “You must give him more time, Master Bruce.”
However, Bruce said nothing in return.

Avengers or Justice League (1/2)
Author: @wordsfromthesol Taglist: @zphilophobiaz @malfoys-demigod @pricetagofficial @anousiemay Pairing: Jason Todd x Reader Word Count: 1.2k A/N: So Imma change it slightly from the request, as the Avengers is still going to be a separate team from the Justice League. Also sorry if some of my marvel lore is off…I was told as long as Uncle Ben stays dead then I'm good 😂 Also I got my new computer, yay!
Part Two
You never understood the petty rivalry between the Avengers and the Justice League. I mean in reality you were all on the same team, right? Their last squabble is why you decided to spend some time off world. There were other planets that needed saving and the Green Lantern Corps always welcomed your help. It had been a few years before you decided to make your way back to Earth…and really it was just for the food. You expected some of the tension to be relieved, after all these were adults…some of them centuries old. But no, it seemed as if nothing had really changed. So you spent your time avoiding heroes and vigilantes alike. Feigning the reason for your visit was a vacation to see your family. You just hoped no one dug into your past too closely, as all of your family had passed a decade ago.
Sitting on a rooftop adjacent to your favorite restaurant, you munched on their signature dish. The peace and quiet was only momentary.
"So vacation, huh?" You heard the gravelly voice echo from behind you. Sighing you turned around, surprised by the person standing before you.
"Well I was expecting a bat…just not this one."
"Bats called bullshit on your 'visiting family' before the words even left your mouth. But he figured I'd have better luck talking to you…"
"Hmm mm. You're Red Hood, right? From what I heard you're the last one taking orders from the big bad bat." The vigilante just shrugged as he walked over and sat next to you.
"I promised a certain birdie that I'd make an effort." You furrowed your brows, knowing there had to be more to the story.
"Alright and it got me off of patrol with a certain annoying wanna be father figure."
"And the truth comes out!" You offered him some of your food before adding, "Don't expect me to get involved in this barbaric superhero civil war."
"Oh I knew this was a lost cause."
You looked at him, confused. "Then why'd you even come?"
"Always wanted to meet a legend." Before you could ask him what he meant, he lunged himself forward and plummeted towards the ground. You knew better than to go after him.
"I wonder if Bruce teaches all of his proteges how to be dramatic or if it just comes naturally." You chuckled to yourself as you finished the meal you'd be dreaming of for years.
**
It had only been a few days since your encounter with Red Hood before you heard a knock on your door. You were shocked to see him in civilian clothing pounding against the metal.
"Y/N I know you're in there and I know you can see me. Please open up."
You let out an exasperated sigh before swinging the door open and gesturing him inside. "Well, what is it?"
"It's Bruce. He's missing."
"Bruce?" You feigned innocence, hoping it would get you out of helping. After all this was obviously just another one of Batman's ploys to get you to join the Justice League.
"Dick already told me you know. So that's not going to work."
"Dammit…" you mumbled under your breath, still loud enough for Jason to hear you. "Alright. He's 'missing'. Where do we start?"
"You start by coming with me to the Manor." His foppish aplomb was charming, yet annoying.
"Fine. I'll meet you there." Before he could muster a response, you took off through the open window not daring to look back.
**
You sauntered into the cave as if it was an every day occurrence. "So Dick. He's actually missing? Because I swear if this is some…" Your sentence was curtailed by his response.
"We think so, but who knows with Bruce. I swear, if he's pulling this bullshit just to get at you I will shoot him myself." A laugh got caught in your throat, as you were tempted to actually believe him.
"I see you guys gained a Robin. Who's the pipsqueak?" You gestured towards the smallest of the bunch.
"You insolent creature. How dare you --" The new Robin charged at you, but you quickly stepped out of the way and put your hand behind his head gently (at least for you) throwing him to the ground. Before he could make another pass, Dick grabbed onto his shoulder.
"Damian…that's not the smartest move and you know it." Dick turned towards you, "So Bruce had a kid…with Talia…" You couldn't help but burst with laughter.
"If you all are done. I believe Jason has arrived and we can get started on this rescue mission." Tim finally spoke up as he gestured to the computer monitor before him.
**
From what you gleaned, the boys had absolutely nothing to go on. Besides the fact that he was missing. Secretly, you called Tony and informed him of the situation, in hopes that he could find a lead. Then, you spent the next 3 days and nights on the roof of your building listening. You focused in on one conversation after another hoping for any kind of information. There was nothing. On the third night a familiar vigilante sauntered towards you.
"Please tell me you have something." You kept your glance on the streets below, watching as your feet swung in and out of your view.
"I was hoping you did." His voice almost sounded defeated as he sat beside you. At his response, you shut your eyes and began to search for voices again. It was getting more and more difficult as you fought off the fatigue. Suddenly the voices shut off, as did your vision. You felt like you were flying until someone's arms enveloped you.
The next time you opened your eyes you were in a bed…and not your own. You looked around and saw Jason in the adjacent room. He was on the phone, but you were still too exhausted to make out his words. Just as you swung your legs over the side of the bed, his words became clear.
"And where do you think you're going?" You looked up to realize he was now standing in the doorway.
"Well your idiot father isn't going to find himself."
"Hm. Maybe Tony Stark will." The agitation in his voice was unmistakable.
"Whatever, you guys needed help. I still don't understand this stupid rivalry."
"Well according to the tin can, Bats was spotted in New York."
"New York…"
"Yeah, by that spider thing."
"Great." You got up, but as you reached the door Jason refused to move. "You know I can just make you move."
"You could, normally. But I think you may be a little too sleep deprived for that." As your arm reached up, he caught it and quickly continued. "Plus if you agree to let me drive you...while you sleep. I'll go with you."
You scoffed at him. "Yeah I don't need you to go with me."
"What you think you can bring Bats in yourself? He's still mad at you…" You opened your mouth to respond, but immediately closed it before gesturing for him to lead the way.

Movie Night, Pillow Fight [Version 2]
By: SassyShoulderAngel319
Fandom/Character(s): DC/BatFam - Jason Todd/Red Hood
Rating: PG-13/T (maybe pushing M? but there’s still nothing super explicit. this is just a lot dirtier than I usually write holy cannoli. Heavy kissing, a little bit of suggestive dialogue and narration, minor swearing?)
Original Idea: This (V1 follows this idea a lot more than this one, which I spun off of about halfway through and did my own thing)
Notes: (Masterlist)(By Character)(About Me) I didn’t think this would be as long as Version 1. I was wrong. This one is ~200 words longer, at 3,491. Version 1 here. They start the exact same but change about halfway through. I wrote both of these two over the course of 1 day by the way, and refuse to pick a favorite. @welovegroot @jason-redhood @jason-todd-squad
^^^^^
“No, Bruce,” Jason said sharply into his phone as he grabbed his motorcycle helmet. “I’ve already told you a hundred times: Tuesdays are my day off. Unless it’s a Court-of-Owls-attacking-All-Hands-On-Deck emergency, I’m not going on patrol. I’m allowed one night off per week. And I have plans. It’s weekly movie night with a friend of mine. We’ve been doing movie night since college and I refuse to disappoint her. You know why I chose Tuesdays? Because Gotham’s crime rate is lowest. You’ll be fine without me.” He hung up before Bruce could reply.
—
I opened the door. “You’re late,” I said.
“Yeah. I had to go to two different stores to find your popcorn because they were out at the first one,” Jason replied, letting himself in and dropping his motorcycle helmet on my couch. “Let me go change into my sweats.” He pulled his grey sweatpants out of his backpack, two microwave popcorn bags falling out.
I grabbed them. “Thanks Jay,” I said playfully.
He gave me a brief hug before stepping past me to my bathroom. “The things I do for you,” he teased with a sigh.
“Get out of those jeans. You know they aren’t allowed,” I retorted before going over to the microwave. My bathroom door shut loudly. I boosted myself onto the counter and watched the popcorn spin in the microwave.
By the time Jason emerged from the bathroom, only one bag was done. He leaned against the counter next to me, arms folded, and joined my staring.
“So what movie did you bring?” I asked. “You said in your text it was one of your favorites.”
He beamed at me. “Well, my friend, we are watching the very first ever made Frankenstein. From nineteen-thirty-one.” He fixed me with a stare as my shoulders slouched. “Don’t you start moaning in complaint. You put me through watching that awful musical last week—”
“Excuse you, Phantom of the Opera is also a classic.”
“It’s basic.”
“You’re basic.”
“Maybe so, but after going through that ordeal, you promised we could watch one of my favorites. I managed not to fall asleep last week, so it’s my turn.” He stuck his tongue out at me, then shook his head. “I really need to refine your taste in theatre. Remind me to convince Bruce to give me his season tickets to the real opera. He never uses them anyway. Doesn’t know what he’s missing out on.”
Given Bruce’s parents were shot after leaving the opera, I imagined there was some childhood trauma there. I didn’t bring it up with Jason. We didn’t talk about family besides passing comments on movie nights.
When the second bag of popcorn was finished popping and put in its own large bowl—I had quite the collection of popcorn bowls, usually given to me—we went to my room.
Ever since we’d graduated college—two years ago—we’d had movie night in my bed, rather than on the couch, like we’d done in my dorm. The bed was comfier and gave us more room to spread out. I can’t even remember who suggested it, but it was probably me one week when I was sick or something and we’d just stayed that way ever since.
I’d always hosted too. In college it was because my roommate was never there, and now Jason just liked the escape from his family. They didn’t know where I lived, so the one time he hosted and they interrupted by coming over, he and I agreed we’d just have it at my place. I liked his brothers and sister well enough, but they’d ruined that movie night. I doubted Wayne Manor movie nights ever involved any movies no one had seen before—because everyone talked and yelled at each other too much to actually pay attention to the movie.
Jason put the DVD in the player in my room. “Prepare to be wowed,” he said.
“I’m prepared, trust me,” I replied flatly.
—
“Heeey,” Jason’s voice said softly. “Wake up, doofus.”
I blinked my eyes open blearily. “Wha…?”
He started chuckling. “You fell asleep about halfway through.”
“Duh. It was boring. What did you expect for a casual movie fan from this century watching something from nineteen-thirty-one?”
“Well, all that means is that we get to rewatch it—from the beginning—next week!” Jason declared. I frowned. “Don’t you pout at me. Those have been the official movie night rules since our freshman year of college.”
“That’s not true,” I said, pulling out my phone. I dug deep into the Google Docs on my phone for Movie Night Rules from our freshman year of college. Six years was a long way to scroll through, but eventually I found it. I opened the doc and scanned the rules. “Oh, buzz off,” I muttered, poking Jason in the side.
“No poking!” He lurched away. Jason was selectively ticklish. Sometimes I would poke him in the side and he’d jump, other times he wouldn’t even notice I touched him. And he swapped between the two randomly.
“Why didn’t you wake me up like two minutes after I fell asleep?”
Jason pursed his lips, trying not to smile. “I thought about it. But you looked so cute—” He pinched my cheek and I was reminded of the fact that he had the personality traits of an eighty-year-old grandmother. “—with your hair all messy and your cheeks all squished that I just couldn’t.” He laughed as I batted his hand away from my face. I poked him again. “No poking!”
“Then don’t tease.”
“I have a right to tease you. Look at my shirt! You drooled all over it.”
I grabbed the hem of it and pulled it up. “Let me throw it in the wash, then.”
I expected him to smack my hand away and shove the shirt back down over his torso, but to my surprise, he helped me take it off. I’d seen him shirtless too many times to bother staring at his remarkably muscular torso. I just climbed out of my bed and went to the small closet out in the hall that held my tiny washer and dryer. I threw his shirt in the washer, dumped a bit of detergent in, and got it started before going back to my room.
“Take that off! You’ll stretch it out!” I snapped.
Jason struggled to get one of my—much smaller—T-shirts from college off. I scoffed and helped him yank it over his head before throwing one my pajama shirts at him. I wore my dad’s old T-shirts to sleep in, so it was even big on Jason. “You could have just asked for a replacement and I’d have handed you this.”
“That’s not as fun as surprising you,” he joked.
I rolled my eyes and perched back on the bed. “Fine. Next week, we rewatch Frankenstein. I won’t fall asleep. But you’re bringing snacks again.”
“Of course.”
“And don’t forget the popcorn.”
“Doofus, if I forgot the popcorn, you wouldn’t let me through the door.”
I snickered. “True enough.”
Jason leaned over to set his popcorn bowl on the bedside table closest to him. “Maybe next week we should try this on the couch. I always feel bad about getting popcorn on your sheets—and then you won’t be so comfortable that you fall asleep.”
I grabbed a pillow and whacked him in the chest. His expression turned affronted.
“Did you just initiate a pillow fight?” he demanded.
“No,” I retorted. “I got payback for you insulting me.” I whacked him again. “That was me initiating a pillow fight.” I started flinging the pillow at him again and again.
“Hey! Not fair!” Jason protested. “I’m unarmed!”
I ignored him and kept up my pillow smacking.
He laughed. “Well, if you’re going to play dirty, I will too.” He reached out as my pillow hit him again and he wrangled it from me. “A-ha! Look at that! Got your ammo. How does it feel, to be attacked by your own pillow?”
Jason started smacking me with it. I squealed and blocked him as best I could with my arms. We were both laughing as I tried to reach around him to the pillow he’d been using to brace his back against my headboard. He grabbed my wrist with one hand and hit me with the pillow using the other. “I don’t think so,” he said. “I’m not going easy on you just because you’re adorable.”
I laughed as he nearly hit me hard enough to knock me off the bed.
So, I switched tactics.
Getting inside his much longer reach was the hard part. Once I managed to duck around his arms and wrench my wrist free, I started tickling him. Tonight was a ticklish night. He squirmed away from me.
Jason yowled—and I hoped my neighbors weren’t home—in laughter. “Stop it—stop tickling!”
I didn’t. I ran my wiggling fingers up his sides and across his neck. He tried to catch my hands, but I was quick enough to evade him.
For a few moments anyway.
“No. No!” His protests didn’t work on me. “Oh you’re as bad as my brothers. Stop it—stop it.” His voice went firm, all traces of laughter gone. With one quick movement, the pillow we’d attacked each other with was discarded on the floor. He grabbed my ankles and pulled me so I was lying flat in the center of the bed.
Jason straddled my waist, trapping my lower legs with his ankles and pinning both my hands above my head on the mattress. He was breathing hard. We both were.
He smiled. “There. Not so feisty now, are you? Hands pinned above your head, lying beneath me all… helpless.” He chuckled and licked his lower lip, his smile turning both playful and wicked. “I could have… any kind of revenge I want.” He bent his elbows, lowering himself over me. My breathing grew shorter and blood roared in my ears. “I can have any…” He paused, eyes flicking from mine to where my necklace charm had fallen down one side and landed on the mattress. His eyes widened, as if he seemed to just barely realize how close we were. “This is…” His elbows straightened, pushing him higher above me. “I’m… sorry.” He started to gently pick his way off of me. “I’m gonna let you go now.”
He released his grip on my wrists. I rolled them and flexed my hands to get some feeling back into them.
He swung his leg to get off me and used it to step off the bed. “I should go,” he said breathlessly. “I’m so sorry. I’ll grab my T-shirt next week.” He strode to the door of my bedroom while I sat on the bed, dumbfounded, jaw hanging open.
As he opened the door, I bounded off the bed.
I caught him before he could reach for his stuff on my couch, grabbing his wrist. “What was that about?” I demanded. He refused to turn and look at me.
“Just… let it go,” he said, shaking his head. He tried to pull his wrist out of my hand, but I grabbed it with my other one to hold him in both.
“No! What the hell is going on with you?”
“Leave it alone,” he growled out.
“I can’t! What happened in there that made you shut down? What did I do wrong?”
He whirled. “It’s nothing to do with you. It’s me!”
“Then tell me what it is!” I shouted.
Jason grabbed me by the shoulders, wrenching out of my grip so hard my fingers ached. He spun me around and pinned me by the shoulders against my front door. A muscle worked in his jaw as he clenched it before fixing me with a crystal blue stare. “It’s just… seeing you beneath me—all flushed pink and panting, your eyes hooded and staring up at me… seeing you like that… I just felt myself fall in love with you!”
If he hadn’t pinned me against the door I probably would have fallen over from shock. My mouth definitely fell open. “Jay… I…” I breathed.
Still holding my shoulders, he spun me around so I was away from the front door and moved to shove his jeans into his backpack.
Before he could, I threw reservation to the wind.
I grabbed his shoulders, forced him to turn and face me, moved my hands to the back of his head, and pulled him down to kiss me.
Our mouths crashed together hard enough to make my front teeth ache, but I didn’t care. My heart leapt into my throat and I almost melted as his arms circled my waist, pulling me closer, so our torsos were pressed against each other. My eyelids closed as I sighed. We were both breathing hard, air from our noses warm against each other’s skin. Holding my waist in both arms, he turned and pinned my back against the door again.
“Oh, God…” Jason breathed against my lips. He kissed me again and I moaned. He reached one hand up and tangled it in my hair. He could palm the back of my skull as though it were a basketball. His fingers were warm against my scalp.
When he pulled his lips away from me, I groaned quietly in complaint.
“We—we should not be doing this,” he whispered, shaking his head. The white streak at the front of his hairline flopped back and forth with the movement. I wanted to reach my fingers up and twist that streak between them. But I didn’t.
“Why not?” I replied, just as breathless.
“We’re friends. This isn’t us.”
“You just said that you just barely fell in love with me.”
“I did. But I’m not willing to ruin the good thing we’ve had going on here for six years.” He panted, shoulders heaving up and down, as he reached up and took my hands away from his face, gently dragging them by the wrists. “You’ve been the best friend I’ve been able to keep longer than a year or two. I can’t… I can’t just… this isn’t about what I want.”
“I’m the one who kissed you,” I pointed out. “What does that say about what I want?”
“It’s not just about wants,” he said. “It’s too dangerous.”
“Us being together is dangerous? To whom?”
“To you.”
“Why would it be dangerous for me?” I pushed.
He let me go and spun away from me. He looked like he wanted to shout and rage—maybe throw something—but he just clenched his fists and panted.
When he finally turned back to face me, he’d calmed down a little. “It’s dangerous… because… I… oh, Bruce is gonna kill me…” he whispered, shaking his head again. “Because I… am… the Red Hood.”
Two big confessions in one night. I felt a little dizzy and remembered to breathe.
“Red Hood. As in… the vigilante. And… the crime boss.”
“Vigilante, yes. Crime boss days are behind me. I was newly-back-from-the-dead and not in a stable mindset when I became a crime boss.” I decided not to ask about that. He huffed and sat on my coffee table, instead of the sofa, rubbing his temples. “And I wasn’t going to tell you about it, by the way. You’re the only normal friend I have right now. But it’s too dangerous for us to be together. If any of the rogues in this city knew I had someone I cared about as much as I care about—as much as I love you… you would not survive to the end of the year.”
I crossed from the front door to the sofa and sat on the sofa cushion closest to him, setting my hand on his knee. “Jay, I… I’m willing to risk it. To be with you. We just need to be careful—”
“I’m not willing to lose you. I would have been terrified before tonight if someone worse than me caught you. Knew you were just a friend. Now, though? Now, I don’t know what I’d do if you were captured, and that scares me even more. I saw you under me in that bedroom and I saw a future that was good—for the first time in the nine years since I was resurrected—but I can’t let that be my future. For your sake.”
I bit down on my tongue to keep from shouting. But I did tighten my grip on his knee hard and snap, “Get over yourself, Todd. You’re not the only one who gets to make this decision.”
“No, but apparently I’m the only one who can see things objectively enough to make the wise decision.”
It was my turn to want to throw something. “Jason. Peter. Todd. I don’t care about the danger. And I know you do. But do you know what it’d do to me, knowing that you love me and I feel the same, but you won’t let me be yours? Do you know what it would do to you? I know what it would do to me. It would eat me up inside day in and day out. I would sit here dying for you, waiting for you to come to your senses and carry me back into that bedroom to stay in there all night. But you never would. And I would just wait. I’d never date anyone else. If I tried, all I’d be doing was wishing they were you.
“You and I are cut from the same cloth. Some people are just born to sacrifice. To give up what they want—what they need—for the sake of other people. It’s the only choice we’re ever given, so it’s the choice we make over and over and over again. Sometimes people will split others into Givers and Takers. Those of us born to sacrifice are a step beyond even Givers. We’re the ones who give up everything for others. I’ve done it with my family my entire life. Everyone else always wanted so strongly that my only option was to give up my own. You’re the same, I see it every time I see you with your brothers.
“Jason, it’s time for us to Take. It’s time to let life give us something. This is the moment to be selfish. To put aside Batman and his zealous crusade for one damn moment and let yourself be happy.” I dug my fingernails into his knee through his sweats. “Be selfish for once, Jason.”
He finally looked up at me, eyes meeting mine. “I can’t,” he said.
I clamped my mouth shut and sighed loudly through them. “Yes, you can. If you’re waiting for my consent, you’ve more than got it. I’m telling you now to give yourself consent to want. To take. Get over this hold out that a double life has on you and—mmph!”
He cut me off by slamming his lips against mine, surging off the coffee table and straddling me on the sofa. I moaned and wrapped my arms around his neck. He pulled me to one side, sitting on the sofa and guiding me to straddle himself. His hands were splayed over my shoulder blades. I twisted his white streak through my fingers. Our breath shuddered in and out of our lungs. I parted my lips slightly and ran the tip of my tongue over the seam of his lips.
They opened immediately and let me in. I sighed out my nose. “Please ruin our friendship,” I breathed into his lips. “This is so much better.”
He snickered out his nose, smiling. “Does your consent to let me want you include me carrying you back into that bedroom and neither of us leaving until dawn?” He nodded toward my room.
My body shivered. Not from cold. Excitement. Electricity.
“Definitely,” I said breathlessly.
His hands slid from my shoulder blades and down to my legs. He held them and stood up. I hooked my ankles around his back, locking my arms’ grip around his neck.
He carried me to my room, kicked the door shut, and laid me gently on the messed-up bedsheets and disarrayed pillows. On all fours above me, my legs around his waist, he kissed me. Gently, at first, but he quickly grew hungry. His hands worked their way under my shirt, callused palms scraping slightly against my skin.
“Still okay with this?” His voice was barely more than a hoarse whisper.
“Oh yeah,” I breathed, unable to even speak loud enough to be heard from inches away.
He smiled. Wicked delight flickering on his face. “Well, get ready for me to call you mine. Because I am all yours.”
I smiled. “I’m yours, Jason.”
