Here is a helpful article on how to use a site skin on AO3 to hide or warn for works that include tags about AI (except for ones that are saying they've used a spell checker or grammar checker). A friend in my Starsky and Hutch fandom found this after a group discussion we had about AI generated stories. The instructions are easy to follow and it works just fine.

i've just encountered my first ai fanfiction post. i mean i've seen ppl discussing it before i've just never seen a post coming from someone who is writing ai fanfiction (if u can even call it that).
fanfiction has always been such a big part of my life and idk it made me so sad and mad and for me fanfiction is all about love and passion for the characters and the story and the world the author has created. it's about wanting more of it and about wanting to emerge into that universe to really explore ur own creativity and love for writing and CREATING.
i mean isn't it what all of fanfiction really is? creating something u've put a piece of yourself of ur very soul into in hopes of improving or making ur favorite show/book/character last longer than it really does.
loving something SO MUCH u decide to CREATE more of it
idk it may not be that deep but for me it is and i'm devastated there's now 'character ai cooking a bkdk omegaverse'

If you support AI generated content, especially if you post it (because you didn't write it or draw it if AI generated it for you) then my content is not for you.

I don’t know who needs to hear this but ai character chat bots are still ai art
Chat bots are literally just ai fanfiction.
And as a fanfiction writer, ai bots make me uneasy and uncomfortable.
We really don’t know how close we are to fanfiction and commissions dying.
I would not be surprised if in a couple years lots of artists see a drop in commissioned pieces because it’s easier for people to just have midjourney make them art of the their ships.
I can absolutely see fanfiction writers getting less requests and views and engagement cause it’s ten times easier to just ask an ai bot to rp with you - regardless of whether the ai is in character or not. Because it’s already happening.
Y’all, it’s still AI ART. And it’s going to start hurting your favorite fanfiction writers and fanart creators very soon.
Please consider how using Ai chat bots effects writers on ALL levels. Just like AI threatens the craft of paid screenwriters, it threatens the craft of unpaid fanfiction writers as well.
How close are we as fandom from having AI generated fics on aO3 or ai fanart on deviantart?
Y’all As a fanfiction writer I am begging you to reconsider how AI bots and using them directly effects the writers and artists you follow and support daily not just on a corporate level but a fandom level too
You can support writers against AI at a corporate level, please try and extend the same kindness to writers of fandom as well.
Convenience over human expression and effort is the downfall of art

Alice and Jasper belong to their rightful creator.
They may feel out of character, I tried to prompt the ai to make the scenes and characters feel realistic. Minorly revised and edited by me. Used DreamGen.com for anyone who wants to try
Our Little Part 2- An Alice/Jasper x Little Reader AI generated fanfiction
Part one
They packed the car and headed towards where they knew (Y/N)’s house was. As they pulled up, they noticed there were no lights on inside, and there was no car in the driveway.
“Huh,” Jasper said, frowning. “That’s weird.”
“Maybe their mom isn’t home yet?” Alice suggested, shrugging.
“Yeah, maybe,” Jasper replied, frowning. “Hey, do you think we should stay with you tonight? Just in case?”
“I think that’s a good idea,” Alice agreed, nodding. “We should probably stay until your mom gets home.”
(Y/N) nodded, feeling a little nervous but also excited to spend the night with them. “Okay.”
“Alright !” Alice replied, smiling. “Let’s go inside and get you into some warmer clothes.”
The three of them got out of the car and headed towards the front door. When they reached it, they patiently waited for (Y/N) to find their house key, before turning the handle and pushing it open. The room was empty and dark, and there was no sign of life anywhere.
“Uh...” Jasper trailed off, unsure what to say.
“Is the heater on?” Alice asked, her tone uncertain and worried.
“I don’t think so,” (Y/N) replied. “There’s a big conf’rence like a hundred states away.” It was only miles, but the sentiment stood the same for them.
“Oh...” Alice replied, frowning. “Well, we definitely shouldn’t leave you here alone.”
“Not really,” Jasper agreed, shaking his head. “Have you been home alone for long?”
“Uh...” (Y/N) trailed off, unsure of how long they’d been gone. Yesterday maybe?
“A while,” Alice replied, shaking her head. “This needs to be rectified.”
“Yes, I agree,” Jasper agreed, nodding.
“Okay little one, let’s go upstairs and get you into some warmer clothes,” Alice suggested, smiling at them. “And then we can watch a movie.”
“Okay!” (Y/N) replied, smiling back. All they needed to hear was movie. “Let’s go!”
The three of them headed up the stairs, and Alice led (Y/N) to the bathroom while Jasper found the pajamas in the drawer.
“Hmmm...” (Y/N) hummed to themselves, reaching up to pull the hair tie holding their braid together. It came loose easily, and (Y/N) dropped it onto the counter. Alice grabbed the toothbrush from the cupboard and added a dollop of toothpaste before spreading it under the running water.
“Here you go, baby,” Alice instructed, passing the toothbrush.
“Thank you !” (Y/N) replied, taking it gratefully and starting on their back teeth. Going from circular motions to a struggling back and forth.
It was obvious that they were getting littler, so Alice took the brush from their loose grip and helped them rinse out their mouth.
“Alright, now let’s get you into your pajamas,” Alice suggested, smiling. “And then we can watch a movie.” Alice couldn’t wait for their first bath time, but it would have to.
“Okay!” (Y/N) replied, nodding. “Movie time!”
“Yay!” Alice agreed, grinning. “Come on, bubs.”
They walked out of the bathroom and into the bedroom, where Jasper was waiting with their pajamas.
“What movie should we watch tonight?” He asked as his girls approached. They would have a great time cuddling downstairs in front of the tv with all the blankets and pillows gathered.
(Y/N)’s eyes lit up as they approached Jasper. “Kid movie! Kid movie!”
“Okay little one,” Jasper agreed, chuckling. “We can watch a kid’s movie. What kind of kid’s movie do you want to watch?”
(Y/N) frowned, trying to decide. “Princess?”
Alice clapped her hands, happy that they were little enough to want something princessy. “Of course, Princess! Which one do you want to watch?” Alice asked, walking over to the shelves filled with DVDs. “The Little Mermaid or Beauty and the Beast?”
“Mermaid,” (Y/N) replied, grinning. “Want to see Ariel.”
“Good choice, baby!” Alice cheered, pulling out the DVD. “Let me go put it in.” Alice walked over to the TV and put it in, before coming back to the room. There, she was greeting with her smiling baby dressed in a silk purple two piece. “Alright, are you ready?”
“Yes!” (Y/N) replied, bouncing up and down excitedly with her arms slightly raised. “Ready!”
“Come on, baby,” Jasper said, already securing the little one in his arms. They instinctually settled, hand lightly twisting the fabric at his shoulder from the slight surprise of everything.
Carrying them downstairs to the living room, he sat down on the couch, and he pulled them in tight against his chest. “Do you want to lay down or sit up?” He asked, running his fingers through their soft, curly hair.
(Y/N) leaned into him and yawned, their eyes starting to droop. “Lay down, please,” they said softly. “Want to sleep.”
“Alright, baby,” Alice replied, smiling. She walked into the kitchen and poured warm milk into a baby bottle. When she came back, she saw her baby curled up against her husband’s chest. “Here you go,” Alice said softly, passing the bottle to Jasper.
(Y/N) looked up at her, and Alice’s heart melted at how cute they looked with their big, sleepy eyes. “Thank you, Mommy,” they said softly, smiling. “I love you.”
“I love you too,” Alice replied, leaning over to kiss them on the forehead. “Drink up, baby.” Alice whisper as Jasper nudged the bottle into place. She grabbed the blanket and spread it over their sleepy baby before sitting next to Jasper and leaning against him.
“Love you too, baby,” Jasper agreed, smiling back at Alice. He kissed (Y/N)’s head gently before looking at Alice. “Ready to watch?”
“Yes,” Alice agreed, nodding.
They settled in to watch The Little Mermaid, and Jasper stroked their baby’s hair as they slowly drank their bottle. When they were done, Jasper set the bottle aside and held their baby closer against his chest.
As the movie went on, they noticed (Y/N)’s eyes drooping. “Are you ready to go to bed, baby?” Jasper asked softly.
(Y/N) nodded, their eyes slowly closing. “Sleepy.”
“Okay, baby,” Alice agreed, smiling. “Let’s take you to bed.” Alice stood up and scooped their baby out of Jasper’s arms.
She walked up the stairs, with Jasper following behind. When they reached the room, Alice walked over to the bed and laid down with (Y/N) against the pillows. “Is this okay, sweetheart?” Alice asked softly. “Do you need your pacifier?”
(Y/N) shook their head, smiling sleepily. “No, Mommy. Don’t wanna sleep with that.”
“Okay,” Alice agreed, smiling. “But if you need it, just wake us up, okay?” Alice leaned over and kissed their forehead.
Jasper watched them settle in before moving around to the other side of the bed. He climbed in beside them and reached over, holding Alice’s hand. They smiled at each other, both happy that they were taking care of their baby.
“Goodnight, baby,” Jasper whispered. “Sleep tight.”
“Goodnight, baby,” Alice agreed, smiling. “Sweet dreams.”

A story I asked ChatGPT to write:
Title: The Meeting in Room 204
The dim light of the hotel room flickered as the storm raged outside, rain beating against the windows like a relentless drummer. In the center of the room, a low table sat strewn with maps and papers. Two figures leaned over them, their faces illuminated by the soft glow of a lamp.
Muammar Gaddafi, dressed in his customary military garb, glanced up at Hafez al-Assad, who sat across from him, a stark presence in his crisp suit. The tension in the air was palpable, heightened by the growing tempest outside. They had planned to meet at a public conference, but the storm had forced them to retreat to the hotel for privacy.
“Sometimes, the weather reflects our politics,” Gaddafi remarked, a hint of irony in his voice. “Unpredictable, chaotic.”
Assad raised an eyebrow, a faint smile playing at the corners of his mouth. “And yet, we endure. Just as we must endure these challenges in our region.”
Gaddafi leaned back, folding his arms. “We are at a crossroads. The West seeks to divide us, weaken our resolve. We must show them our unity.”
“Unity is forged in trust,” Assad replied, his tone serious. “Your support in recent conflicts has been invaluable, but there are those who doubt our alliance.”
“They will always doubt what they do not understand,” Gaddafi said, his eyes narrowing. “We must demonstrate strength, not just in words but in action.”
A crack of thunder echoed outside, shaking the room. Gaddafi stood, moving to the window, looking out at the torrential rain. “What will it take for us to truly unite our nations? To stand as one against those who would see us fall?”
Assad joined him at the window, both men staring into the storm. “It begins with understanding our people. They must see us as brothers, not just leaders.”
Gaddafi nodded, contemplating the words. “Perhaps we can plan a joint initiative—a conference of leaders from across the region. A show of solidarity.”
“Agreed,” Assad said, a spark of enthusiasm lighting his eyes. “But we must also address our internal differences. There are factions that could exploit our weaknesses.”
The conversation shifted to strategies and alliances, their voices rising and falling with the rhythm of the storm outside. They debated fiercely but with a mutual respect that had grown over years of shared struggle.
As the rain began to subside, Gaddafi finally turned to Assad. “You know, for all our differences, I find comfort in our partnership. We are not just allies; we are bound by a vision of a united Arab world.”
Assad met his gaze, a rare warmth in his expression. “Indeed, Muammar. Let us ensure that this bond remains strong. Our peoples deserve nothing less.”
Just then, a knock echoed from the door, startling them. A hotel staff member peeked in, a tray of food in hand. “Gentlemen, your meal is served.”
They shared a brief laugh, the tension dissipating momentarily. As the staff member set down the tray, Gaddafi turned back to the maps spread across the table. “Let’s get back to work. There is much to discuss.”
And so, amid the remnants of the storm, the two leaders sat together, forging plans and solidifying a bond that, while tested by time and turmoil, would endure in the heart of a restless region.

HEADCANONS?? BY AI????
(Slams fist down on the table like an angry viking)
IT'S PURE FUCKING MADNESS
Like I genuinely do not know where the state of fandom is even going at this point... it's like people think that fandom is a route to clout and popularity, but they literally don't care about the actual fandom content?
And as someone who has had a 'popular' fandom blog (more than once) - it is the fucking worst. Especially when you do genuinely care about the content that you are making and how it relates back to the enjoyment of the source material, being a 'popular' blog and having people chase you down for content, especially specific content, is a fucking nightmare.
The only way to enjoy fandom is to produce and consume content slowly within a small circle of people who actually appreciate it, and people who use AI are genuinely fucking stupid. Like I cannot fathom the process behind going "I like this character, let me post a fanfiction I did not write about them so that people will follow me for more fics I will not write" - like what are you getting out of it. Even if fellow fans follow you, you will probably be too lazy to participate in actual conversations about the characters you like.
And like to a small extent, I get the whole 'dopamine' of likes and clicks and bullshit, but they aren't clicking like for you or your blog, they are doing it for an AI fanfic that you did not even make. It makes my fucking brain hurt, trying to find some reasoning behind this.
And like I said in that other post, headcanons are even worse, because headcanons don't have to be a full long 1k fic, they can literally just be a one single sentence post. They are literally just thoughts. And now people are not even having original thoughts about their favourite characters.
This post took me less than ten minutes to write, even when I was feeling very unwell. And it's one of my favourite headcanon posts that I have ever written.
But headcanon posts can be something as simple as 'I think x character would like listening to Fall Out Boy' or 'I think x character would hate eating their pizza crusts' or 'I think x character would always give y character their pickle' LIKE HELLO. SIMPLE LITTLE THINGS
And people can't even be bothered. And it literally feels like by posting it, they are saying 'I no longer bother to enjoy my favourite character' like THESE ARE THE TYPE OF PEOPLE WHO WOULD LIKE THE ROBOT FUCK THEIR WIFE AND WATCH THE SUNSET FOR THEM BECAUSE THEY ARE SO SOULLESS
It confuses me and pisses me off so badly at the same time

In light of the AI-generated art and writing, as a college kid doing an AI degree, let me present my worthless opinion.
Artificial intelligence is a very cool and very complex field of study, and I really enjoy learning about it.
But you know what else I love? Reading fanfiction. Leaving kudos. Leaving comments and tumblr asks for authors and seeing if they replied.
I have so much love and respect towards creators. The artists, the writers, the designers... What makes you all special is that underlying humanity in your work. The raw emotions. The passion that reflects in everything you do. AI can not imitate that.
In a society where tech based careers are the "smart choice to make," you guys are super brave and talented, and I love you all so much.

I saw this really cute headcanon of Rise Leo being his universes Venus but after he came out he changed his name to Leonardo. I decided to have an ai write a cute little coming out story for him.
Tumblr media
...I was not disappointed.

AI dragging on AO3
Hey y'all, quick question: do I need to make my account on AO3 only for logged in users to prevent use of my work in different AI data mining schemes? I've kept my works available to people to read who aren't logged in on the site because I want the most people to be able to read, but I just saw a post about some girl who's started using AI to read fics on Ao3 and putting them on an app 🙄. Not that I wouldn't mind somebody podficcing my works in the true spirit of fandom or anything, but I'd like to avoid being dragged into stuff like that.
So my question is: do I have to switch to a user-only account?

IMPORTANT UPDATE
I have just had to archive lock all of my fanficion.
In light of bot comments and AI scraping on AO3, I have archive locked all of my fics. It's something that I have been incredibly hesitant to do, because I want my fanfiction to be accessible and enjoyed by as many people as possible.
Especially because this account is new and I know that the wait list to get an AO3 account is kind of long, and a lot of my fanfics are currently only posted on AO3 and can't be read anywhere else. If you are someone who doesn't have an account and you're looking for certain fics of mine that haven't been posted here yet - I do sincerely apologize.
But I have gotten comments like this before and I had no clue they were bots. I am incredibly upset at the idea that bots have been scraping my fics, and there could be people out there reading AI generated fics with pieces of my fics spit out back into them.
If you want to read fanfiction, come to the source. Don't ask a fucking robot to spit out heartless, meaningless garbage for you because you're too impatient to wait for an author to work hard on a real update.
If you want more fanfiction - fucking support authors. Send real messages telling authors what you liked, reblog our fucking fics, come back continually and give us genuine support. A robot is never going to give you the kind of quality fanfiction that real people can.
Support fanfic authors instead of supporting an environment where it's beneficial to have fanfic scraping robots.

I’ve always been a fan of AO3 and the idea of OTW as a whole. I mean, how could you not, seeing as these guys are actively trying to support and preserve fandom culture? Having a place where all fanworks are welcomed indiscriminately and neatly archived sounded like a dream come true. It was a dream come true.
Except, well, you know…
AO3 has a lot of problems, and while I am extremely thankful for its existence and for the possibility to safely host my fanworks somewhere, I am not going to delude myself into thinking the OTW is a perfect organization. They have a big racism problem that they still haven’t addressed, years after. And now, on top of everything, the AI generated works bullshit. A lot of great points have been made regarding the matter and while I’m not going to go over them yet again (I invite you to scroll through the eight hundred something comments left on the original announcement), I can’t help point out the hypocrisy behind the OTW’s stance: they are against data scraping but have no problem hosting the results of said data scraping.
I think this is the proverbial slap in the face for a lot of fans that have been defending OTW and AO3 no matter what — they’re run by people, and people are shitty. While I get that the OTW ass kissing made sense in the anti/proship debate, I’ve seen a lot of people that take the archive for granted and are extremely uncritical about it. Yes, it is not run by a megacorp that wants to harvest our data and make a profit out of it, but it is still an organization, and a pretty big one at that. Organizations are run by people with agendas, and that’s a fact.
Perhaps there is a way out of this — as I said, OTW is not a megacorp that deals in user data and ads to generate revenue. Things can change through voting. Donating to OTW doesn’t only ensure that the archive stays running, but also that your voice as an user gets heard, and I encourage everyone to make your voices heard. Will anything change substantially? It’s hard to say. It’s been three years since their promises to address the racism in the community, but nothing has really changed. Perhaps the decision regarding the hosting of AI-generated works will have a similar fate, and it will be something that people will learn to live with. Should we learn to live with things like these? Absolutely not, but perhaps this is the price that has to be paid in order to have a place of our own. It’s never going to be a perfect place and we shouldn’t pretend it ever was. I genuinely wish there were alternatives to AO3. Not like FFN or wattpad, but alternatives made in the same spirit: by fans for fans, with maximum (although not unlimited) inclusivity, where any fanwork made out of love and good faith could find a place.
As for the time being, I am unsure what my future on AO3 is going to look like. I don’t necessarily want to archive-lock my fanworks, although that might be the best course of action. I am also wary about posting any new works on the archive, at least until we get a clear, not half-assed announcement regarding OTW’s stance on AI-generated works.
