This book has been a thousand different books in all kinds of settings, plots, lessons, etc, and that's because I've had these characters since I was in middle school. But after I lost that sketchbook with all of the details (devastated to this day), and started venturing into other books series and shows, etc, I sort of forgot about the og story or what it was like. What remained was a love for the characters I had made over anything else about them, so I'd end up writing stories with a different theme each time, but the ocs being the same, just with their backgrounds shifted. (Around the time I was obsessed with VLD, Ruby was in a sci-fi plot set on a planet in another solar system.)

One of the most recent iterations was Ruby and the other characters essentially struggling to understand death, life, and everything in between. The story is called "Behind the Blue Glass" and I still really like that title lol. All of them had died on the same day, at the same time, just in various different ways, and then all of them came back to life in the same manner. They all developed different powers from the experience: Liam could float/manipulate gravity), August's body was essentially a phantom that could go through objects and disappear, Vin could possess people, Jean had an empathy link with the dead and could talk to and see them clearly, and Maya could figure out someone's cause of death/also tell when people were about to die. As for Ruby, she's the only one who can move freely between the land of the living and the land of the dead. It's different from Jean seeing the dead, as she's still in the land of the living.

The plot of that story was Ruby having dreams/visions of these other people she had never met before and knowing she needed to find them and set "something" right, but she didn't know what. She sets out to find them anyways, and they each join her on her quest to find everyone simply because they never got an answer to how they came back from the dead and find it weird that they all died on the same day and time. They solve deaths of ghosts they come across, meet people who are still grieving lost ones, have to lay some of the ghosts down to rest- all while figuring out why these shady people have started following them and trying to stop them from figuring out what happened to them. I even made some first draft titles (definitely, 10000% inspired by PJO because I was reading it at the time):

to be honest, i'm still thinking about writing this story, but Ruby's name would be changed because at this point, this iteration of her character is VERY different from present day. She's two different characters at this point 💀 that's how you know I've had her for SO long because she looks so different from her original drawings.

The latest version of Ruby ended up in a story with completely different characters in the cast and a completely different setting (even if some of the characters were inspired by their og versions). It's called "The Clocktower's Chime"

It's very much inspired by those reincarnation manhwas. I like those stories but they all have the same plot over and over, and while I was more interested in the versions where the character is sent back in time to live their life again but with all the knowledge they had in the future, I always struggled with the aspect that the characters' mental age is far older than they are. It makes the dynamics a little weird, but they can be excused unless it's a romantic dynamic, I would think? I dunno, it was hard to get into the plots mostly because of that.

So I used Ruby as a placeholder OC and came up with a story where upon their death in the future, someone casts a spell or a god sends them back, and instead of having a mental older age, they get a journal with all of the details of their future. Ruby woke up one day and found a journal written by herself that detailed everything about her future up to the point of her death. It was more like a book, however, rather than a journal. It just looked like a journal because it was in her handwriting.

So Ruby gets this book, doesn't believe it at all, until she notices that there are way too many "coincidences" lining up with the events of the book. She starts believing it could be true, and then decides it must be when she finds out that a prominent family in the country she lives in is going to visit her hometown. In the book, they were there because they learned that Ruby was their daughter that had been kidnapped as a baby and believed dead. However, in the book, Ruby had spent her entire life living as a weapon instead of a daughter, and she died by their hands when she refused to kill a woman that is prophesized to end a war that would devastate both countries.

Ruby is, like, 12 at that point. So her kid brain is like "obviously I run away and go to school in a different country and tell everyone I have a different name and there's no way this could go wrong." Except before she can even do that, she runs into Julias Parlia, a Duke's son from the country that is supposed to be her enemy in the future. Ruby is like "shit this is THE worst adult to run into and I haven't even gotten to the running away part of my plan" and Julias ends up being the reason she doesn't even get to the train station. He's fucking hilarious by the way. He's got a well adjusted family with two loving parents and a bunch of little siblings and he basically picks Ruby up by the scruff of her neck and is like "I want this one she's insane."

This is Vekenti, a character that was also supposed to be a "villain" in the original timeline. Ruby goes looking for him to prevent his death as well, and Julias obviously is like "Omg another weird kid, how delightful!" Everyone thinks Vikenti and Ruby are related, but they are not. They're just raised as siblings in both timelines and have a lot of the same mannerisms

All of this has been in the back of my mind for a while, and I've been trying to figure out which story I would want to write first. Middle school Erin would love for me to finally write Behind the Blue Glass, but sometimes I find myself wanting to write a fantasy story like Clocktower's Chime a lot more

AHHHH I ACTUALLY HAD SEEN A VIDEO (i hadn’t seen this one yet but the one with the moroccan football soccer team) AND IT WAS SO FUNNY TO ME BECAUSE:

some of them were so confused if they were supposed to pronounce it in arabic or french (since arabic has a few letters that dont exist in the french alphabet) so i would imagine it for nabil to go like that where he goes: “nabil ma-moud” and laila goes “ma7moud. don’t you know how to pronounce your own name?” (like i said we have letters that dont exist in this alphabet so we use numbers to spell pronunciations sorry besties 🫣) and so he goes “oh we’re doing arabic? not english?” and they have to assure him he can just pronounce his name correctly.

and (2) apparently they also indicate that the players need to pause and one of the moroccan players went: “name” “pause” “name” as in they LITERALLY pronounced the pause out loud 😭😭 which i havent been able to stop thinking about like 😭😭 i’m trying really hard to think of who would even do such a thing because it’s SO SILLY but i can’t think of anyone— like sure we could say jeremy, but i feel like he would know better. we could say shawn, but he’s just a silly fanon socmed character atp yk. so idk 😭 i think i would love this one for matt where he doesn’t really think it through and he’s just reading out loud what’s in front of him SHDJFHFJ

but honestly i think overall the characters will do well without too much trouble. there might be some background noises— especially with the trojans because they’re such a big team and have do spend a longer period of time doing it while the foxes can just tell each other to shut up for a few seconds or either dan or coach will threaten them with extra laps around the court.

You stared out the window of the coffee shop, the scent of warm coffee and sweet pastries doing little to calm your mind, your leg bouncing frantically.

Before, the two of you had only seen each other through a phone camera, but now this was in raw, real life. What if he already saw you and ran off? Or what if he ends up hating you the moment he enters the shop and sees you?

Every bell ring of the door opening made you shoot up in hopes it was him, and this time it was.

Hobie walked through in his ripped and DIY’ed style, seeming extra shiny with the piercings and studded jewelry adorning him. You would’ve easily brushed him off as someone else at a first glance, if the first glance didn’t include seeing the other half of the matching bracelet you had got for him and yourself.

The entire moment felt like a scene out of a movie. Once Hobie spotted you, he couldn’t control his smile, rushing over and pulling you out of your seat, into his warm arms.

You couldn’t help but giggle through happy tears as he squeezed you gently. He felt butterflies immediately arise in his stomach as you buried your face into his neck, unsure if it was getting hot in the coffee shop or it was just him.

You never wanted him to let you go. You felt safe, slotted against his body like this.

Hobie pulled away slightly, cupping your face softly with his hands before pressing a barrage of quick kisses against your face, effectively dizzying you with his love, like he always teased.

You both probably looked odd, being so affectionate to each other like you hadn’t seen one another for years. But not Hobie nor you could care, as he finally could hold you.

You couldn’t wait to do all the things you had wanted to do for so long. Meet his cats, cuddle in bed, kissing him and even more cuddles.

pasting a ramble i did on discord of analysis/conjecture/headcanons about liko's home life/upbringing, with strong likodot flavor in the latter half as usual, nearly verbatim because i think i worded it pretty much perfectly the first time while relaying my thoughts to friends... just edited for easier reading slightly

liko doesn’t canonically show attachment issues or abandonment worries really, but i headcanon her with some of that because like. parents busy all the time. not a lot of people in her life and the ones that are, aka mainly her caretakers (she's implied to not really have friends at the start of the show) don’t communicate with her great or are sometimes unavailable for stretches of time.

it makes a lot of sense to me that canonically the brave asagi feels like home so quickly to her. because it’s stable. the same people are always there, she literally lives with them on an airship. but like. they're stable adult figures that aren’t disappearing for periods of time, and friede’s forgetfulness aside (lighthearted), people who communicate with her better. this does wonders for her bdjdjdsk

i also think her selflessness to point of fault could tie in with this, like blaming herself for situations and shrugging off her own feelings (she often doesn’t even notice when she herself is upset/moody on multiple occasions!!) could have been a habit developed from this very thing. she loves her parents and doesn’t want to have to view them as absent or being poor at communication so everything is her fault. she doesn’t want to be pointing blame or to cause problems when people are home or things are good so she dissociates away her own feelings and is very polite and considerate of anything that comes up.

i say all this because i think it’d be an interesting way to spin liko’s character who is already interesting. but also i got to thinking about this manifesting in her relationship with dot down the line. cause like adult figures are one thing but also friends and hell having a girlfriend is kind of different. and dot does actually get busy sometimes because she is still working as gurumin on top of schoolwork (this is headcanons for vaguely what a couple years from now as of HZ053 at the time of writing might look like or something. dot going to more normal schooling similar to how liko has been, on top of still being gurumin)

this starts sparking anxiety in liko but first she shoves it down and acts like it’s fine. and then it starts slipping through the cracks. cue comedy of her being like WHY AM I THINKING CRAZY THINGS LIKE “I WANT TO INTERRUPT GURUMIN VIDEO EDITING TO HANG OUT WHO HAVE I BECOME WHAT SORT OF GURUMIN FAN AM I AHHHH also i don't want to be clingy to dot she likes her independent space...”

still, her response is to be like no it's fine, i have to be fine with this, i'm just acting crazy, dot has literally never done anything to warrant me feeling like this, i am being a bad girlfriend. and dot notices this in her demeanor and is like hey what's wrong? and liko’s like What!

anyway they talk it out and come to some sort of middle ground where of course dot still needs to be alone sometimes either to focus or to just have alone time in general. she’s not gonna let liko derail into a worsening spiral of clinginess. but! she is going to reassure her that it’s fine!

and also cue liko sometimes being able to hang out quietly in her room doing her own thing like lying in dot’s bed on her phone while dot video edits... also way more self indulgent, extremely “this is so not canon but i am a shipper let me live” imagery: dot managing her gurumin socials on her phone in her bed with one hand and liko lying on her bed partially on her lap like a lapcat while dot pets her hair with the other hand. in this essay i will

A QUICK PHOTOGRAPHY RANT ABOUT AI

Recently, I had the pleasure of doing a photoshoot with a friend. She wanted to go for a more Renaissance look for the shoot, so after editing, I ended up with a series of images that she loved, but I'll show you one in particular.

This one was my absolute favorite out of the entire set. It just looks very painting-esque and I just killed it with this one.

Cut to the next day, and she tells me that her mom wants to take one of the pictures from the set and frame it and hang it up, which, sidenote, AHHHH no one has ever actually done that before, so go me on achieving that. But then I get an idea. Even though I'm not sure if it would be this one that is being framed, it's my favorite, and so I thought to myself

"What if I made this one into a painting?"

And so after a few texture downloads and one YouTube tutorial video later, I got this.

First time every trying something like this in Photoshop, but personally I love it, I think it looks awesome with all of the canvas textures and stuff on it and yeah, it just looks cool.

So I posted this on my IG Story, and because we're in the day and age that we're in, I made it be very much known that there was no AI used in this image at all.

now most people we're like "wow this is cool!" but there was one in particular that caught my attention.

Now, first off, I have no big quarrels with AI. There is a case in point where I do see a usefulness for Artificial Intelligence, but not when it comes to art.

But a thought ran through my brain.

"I just spent 20 minutes out of my day learning a new skillset inside of Photoshop to make the image look like it was painted. Could AI have done it faster and given me the same result?"

So, against my better judgment, I went into ChatGPT, threw the image in, and said, "Make this look like a painting."

And I gotta be honest with you...

omg thank you so much!!!!! for a really long time i thought that i was really the only person who found myself funny so it's crazy to think that other people out there that i don't even know think that too, im just happy i can make people laugh haha

as for your questions, yes i definitely thing s5 will is going to have a gun, at least at some point in time!! in the st dark horse comic "the other side" (can be found in the stranger things comics library edition volume 1) will actually is able to use the shotgun at points in the upside down so i definitely think that is going to come back in s5 somehow.

also i wanted to say he is SO real for using a shotgun, because whenever i play shooter games i always use a shotgun & i can already hear the masses going "shotguns suck" okay to you, skill issue if you can't use them correctly. give me a shotgun in cod & i will fucking slay. & SO DOES WILL BYERS

& then i really really hope that there is a scene in st5 where (oh my god freaking out about it already) mike goes to hold the shotgun or whatever gun he has, & will does the arm wrap around thing from behind with their hands on top of each others AHHHH its so PERSONAL to me & this needs to happen.

Okay, it's been a couple of months since I posted cosplay related stuff, soooo here goes.

I decided I want to try and make the wavemother's robe for Shadowheart since the Daisy dress is barely in the game upon release and I couldn't find the fabric for it anyway.

But ahhhh I got the perfect thing for the sea dress sleeves thingy!!! 🙀

Well, I've actually got the fabric, got the coral thingies for harness and whatever the heck they are on the hips, got a pretty decent option for the trim... got the grey-ish blond wig and dyed a ponytail to match since this one comes with a perfect parting and color, but the seller didn't have extentions to match it and I loved dying the wig for Merrin so just why not.

Also printed the hair accessory and parts for astral prison (well actually I first printed it just slashed in half but that way it's too small and it was missing the decorative frame so I just redid it, also reprinted the tiara piece with hooks and slightly enlarged because I could't get the chain to stick to my costest one even with hot glue).

SO now I just need to get myself to try and sew, paint and assemble everything... which is where I generally get stuck at because I can't make patterns for the life of me lmao. Like I'm good at photography, at video editing, somewhat know my way around wig styling, starting to get the hang of 3D modelling and printing with easy stuff or getting and editing game meshes into somewhat decent state for printing... but making patterns is what I nope out of. I've got no spatial thinking. I failed miserably at both geometry and drawing at school. xD

Got some vials for potions as well as they're the easiest props to finish and don't require much printing (like it will probably be hard to fail at getting it to look like an invisibility potion or a drow poison vial).

So in general, even though it might seem like I'm doing nothing cosplay related lately, I've been doing quite a bunch of stuff (for Merrin, too, so hopefully once life and health mine too now included stop messing things up it will come to... something. xD
