#9 albums you listen to

I was tagged by @faustiandevil for this one. 9 albums I've been listening to recently. I have a terribly random music taste, so it's a bit of a weird eclectic mix, but this seems like a good cross section of all the ones I've been listening to. I think there's something of a common element... I think? I suppose I like originality, and I definitely like to listen to music that's fast and angry/energetic.
In no particular order:
Demon Days, by Gorillaz
Barbarella, the movie soundtrack, by Bob Crew and The Glitterhouse
American Idiot, by Green Day
Addicted to Bad Ideas: Peter Lorre's 20th Century, by the World Inferno Friendship Society (this seems like such an obvious choice if you know me lol)
Azel, by Bombino
Danger, by the Lijabu Sisters
Right Thoughts Right Words Right Action, by Franz Ferdinand
Ultraviolence, by Lana del Rey (thanks @faustiandevil for helping me pass my gay civics exam)
Mokum, by Amsterdam Klezmer Band
For the ones who want to join in, but no pressure if you don't, I'm tagging @annaglover , @juicedsumo , @peterlorres21stcentury , @peterlorrefanpage (I forgot what your personal blog was, sorry!) @rustbeltjessie , @stillwaitin76

I was tagged by @soapkaars and glad of it!
9 albums I've been listening to recently. I'll admit up front it's largely more certain songs from said albums than entire albums. :)
In order of the random order I piled these in:
Hunting High and Low, by a-ha. I hone in on: "The Blue Sky," "Living a Boy's Adventure Tale," "The Sun Always Shines on TV," and "Take On Me." Morten Harket and his ethereal voice. ❤️
Rock a Little, by Stevie Nicks. The whole damn album. "Some Become Strangers" is my current earworm. "Part of me used to love you / part of me still does."
Demos, Vol 1, by Oracle Sisters. I listen to "Asc. Scorpio" just about every day.
Radio Retaliation, by Thievery Corporation. "The Forgotten People" is a bountiful get-up-off-your-arse gorgeous mix of sounds.
Don't Say No, by Billy Squier. Lotta songs here, but "In the Dark" is my especial favorite. I mean, my god: "You never listen to the voices inside / They fill your ears as you run to a place to hide / You're never sure if the illusion is real / You pinch yourself but the memories are all you feel..."
Let The Festivities Begin! by Los Bitchos. "Pista (Fresh Start)" is another get the hell up and dance song. Instrumental psychedelic sunshine cumbia.
The World Within, by Moderator (Vinyl Edition 2017). For this beauty: Words Remain.
I, Robot, by The Alan Parsons Project. Concept album. "I Wouldn't Want to Be Like You" and "Breakdown" are on a continual rotation. The existential despair at the end of the latter is superb.
Prelude to Ecstasy, by The Last Dinner Party. Because "Nothing Matters" gets in my head and the video is sublime.
Tagging @peterlorrelove, @peter-lorre-stan, @faith-alhazred @aaronshattuck, no pressure, absolutely none!
#off topic#music post#9 albums you listen to#didn't even get into the older stuff#but here I am following the rules mostly

@peterlorrefanpage enlisted me for '9 albums you listen to' and it's kinda challenging, as i am not actually album person, more 'listen this dozen song for the next two years' person 😂 but i will try my best.
1. 'Addicted to Bad Ideas: Peter Lorre's Twentieth Century' by The World/Inferno Friendship Society.
Must have of every Peter Lorre fan, i guess. Speaks to my soul.
2. 'Devil's Dozen' by Fiddler's Green. As well as 'Heyday' and '25 Barney Roses'.
Music, that charges me with energy. 'Perfect Gang' is the song that i use to explain to my players which vibe there would be in Dead But games (Dead But is my own PbtA TRPG about living dead who leave their graves to go to the party or club).
3. 'Wolfrider's Reflection' by Julia Ecklar
As well as a few records of Julia, that wasn't included to that album. I grew up on ElfQuest comics and i feel deeply bounded to this universe. 'Going Back' gives me goosebumps every single time.
4. 'Pirate for the Rum' by Stormfrun. I found this album a few years ago, during one of the most stressful periods in my work life, and it really was like that 'and the new man was chosen to lead our raging crew - but this man is a woman, i'm telling you it's true'. Yeah, it's me. I am the woman.
5. 'Father of Invention' by Professor Elemental. It's time for a confession - i really like rap. I love rhythm, i love when a performer not just sings, but talks to you, buuuut. I am absolutely not into american 'money, bitches, drugs' rap, so when i encountered chap-hop, where on the place where you'd expect 'f*** off, b****' goes 'I am terribly sorry for the inconvenience, sir' - it was immediately sold to me.
6. 'The Vampyre at the Harpsichord' by Verne Langdon. Oh my, this guy is brilliant. His music has the right vibe of a vintage horror movie. Also I use one of his tracks as my basic rington.
7. 'Ooky Spooky' by Aurelio Volraire. Another guy with a great sense of humor, this particular song is hilarious.
8. 'Boo York', Monster High motion picture soundtrack. Another fandom i am into, catchy energetic songs that speak to me a lot.
9. 'Komik' by Komik Mashrabov. That's very local thing. When i was working in a hotel there was a courier guy, tajik, very modest and polite. But after I told him i quit in two weeks, he got much more friendly, and it turned out he not just a courier, he is also a rapper and stand-up comedian. His 'modest guy' social mask was broken, he was always a fountain of improvisation, jokes and awkward flirt. I still excited how dramatically his personality changed in such short time. So, he gave me couple of his tracks, and still i listen to them time by time, trying to improve my tajik listening (still can't get anything but couple of words, honestly). Also he has really good voice and know how to use it.
youtube
Well, that's all, folks 😁
I have only couple of mutuals here, and two of them have already joined the flashmob, so i can tag only @ilovemesomevincentprice - absolutely no pressure, though 🌿

Unstoppable force meets immovable object, more known as "absurdly long and complex music liker" meets "won't listen to any music".
#I don't really think Teru would be a progressive rock guy but let the artist project. for the punchline#Ritsu probably accepted to listen for a dare and severely underestimated how huge an 5 songs-long album can be#also I'll seize the opportunity to talk about my favorite rock fan Teru headcanon#you know when kids/young teens discover about rock and get REALLY into an old but mainstream band while thinking its super obscure?#I imagine 9 year old Teru being a huge fan of Guns N' Roses or something because it was one of the only bands he knew#and getting a too big band shirt because he was an excited child who just became “independent” and could take his own decisions#the shirt is now worn and holey. the print is fading. it has been two years since it was oficially declared unfit to wear in public#but for some reason Teru can't bring himself to throw it away yet. It'll be a “alone in home” outfit until it proves to be unwearable#mp100#mob psycho 100#teruki hanazawa#ritsu kageyama#lalarts

tagged to post my 9 favourite album with commentary by @mathewbaldzal !!!! we r two peas in a pod i think with having a lot to say about some tunes...
in no particular order...
different class (1995) - pulp. this is not my no1 album of all time because i don't have a favorite album of all time, but this album is in part representative of "getting into music" to me. i love 90s britpop, whatever that means for a random american and this is my fav of em all (though i do actually quite rate this is hardcore in pulp's discography). "common people" is one of the songs of ALL TIME. god jarvis's little sing-song sleazyness gets me. really, really, really great classic performance of it at glasto 1995...for some reason "pencil skirt" also always really hits.
home video (2021) - lucy dacus. the newest album on this list by a long shot, but it's had songs in my top5 year end lists since it came out. i've also seen lucy live <3. this album rises above some of the others in similar company (punisher - phoebe bridgers, the boygenius ep, etc) because i never get tired of it. "first time" "hot & heavy" "brando" and "triple dog dare" are nearly always standbys in my listening history. probably gonna be an album-i-listened-to-in-college classic forever...
songs of love and hate (1971) - leonard cohen. maybe none of my favorite leonard cohen songs are on this album, but as a single work, this album stuns me. possibly the most transfixing 44:21 i've ever heard. his lyricism in particular is -- i can't even describe it. the mix with his voice, the sparseness of the instrumentation at time, the harmonies. i'm not a big stories guy but in this, yeah, the songwriting, the stories. i don't think there's another album like this one out there, really.
if you're feeling sinister (1998) - belle & sebastian. the first time i heard this album, i thought i had never heard an album so perfect. i love songs off of it but i nearly always listen to it whole. i love, love, love b&s's early sound (twee, if you will), and stuart murdoch's lyrics really, really shine. this is one of my favorite albums to listen to when i have a headache because it's lovely to just, focus on but not grating at all. i really love "judy and the dream of horses" and "get me away from here i'm dying". really, a beautiful work
rumours (1977) - fleetwood mac. i was sort of scrolling through some of my playlists trying to decide what to put on this list (it's a bit weighted towards stuff that's in rotation now) and i couldn't leave off fleetwood mac (in part to represent the huge part of my music taste that is like. classics 1965-1980). stevie nicks was one of my earlier music obsessions (the OG was the beatles). so many wonderful songs and riffs. i know this was left off the original 12-inch but "silver springs" is one of my favorite songs forever and ever and ever...
nebraska (1982) - bruce springsteen. when it comes down to it, this is my favorite springsteen album. i do think his 1975-1987 run of albums is pretty much perfect but nebraska is a masterpiece in a way that i find hard to express in words. there's a sense of sparseness and distance in this work (in part bc of how it was recorded) that i find so utterly compelling i can't even describe. "nebraska" - especially this 1984 live version - is a perfect song to me. perfect. i also like a lot of the stuff that went into inspiring this album (notably flannery o'connor) and well. where it fits into springsteen's narritivization of his own life (dude was in the dumps).
all killer, no filler (2001) - sum41. this pick is a little bit representative of the era of my life where i basically exclusively listened to pop punk but if songs of love and hate is an album that's perfectly drawn out, this is an album that's perfectly compressed. like, the title is correct. this album is fucking TIGHT. i used to listen to it at a job i hated to make the 30-min intervals go by. and it's got such classics...."fat lip"..."motivation..." of course, "in too deep." SO good.
what did you expect from the vaccines? (2011) - the vaccines. maybe this pick is a tiny bit cheesy but it is a perfect encapsulation of the era of alt rock it came from. which i love. i really like the vaccines, i think they're super fun and i did see them in concert finally and they totally lived up to that. "wetsuit" is again...one of my favorite songs of all time. "if you wanna" is a perpetual banger.
age of consent (1983) - new order. again, an album that deserves to be listened to whole, despite how good "age of consent" hits alone ever single time. sometimes i think i like another new order album more than this, but i don't. sumner's voice just out-of-tune ringing out over that sound, that new order sound, the bass, that post-punk club vibe. they're a band that don't sound like anyone else, and this is the album most indicative of that. wow, every time.
a few narrow misses
boxer (2007) - the national. i didn't get the national until one day i did. "slow show." my god. hello.
very (1993) - pet shop boys. it's too simple to say this is an album about gay love because it's so embedded in it's context but. this is an album with so much love. psb are brilliant.
the execution of all things (2002) - rilo kiley. jenny lewis CALL ME. also like. you know "a better son/daughter". there's more.
a thousand suns (2010) - linkin park. i used to listen to this at 6th grade cross-country practice. first band i ever got into on my own. idk.
this is not only my favorite albums but a pretty decent summation of the broad strokes my overall taste. thank you again for the tag!! i enjoyed doing this a lot :). idk who has done this/on what blogs so if u have PLEASEEEEE send it to me i want to see!! i tag @lfcrobbo @upthebrackets @girlfriendline @odegoob @amandaleveille @thelittlebirdthatkeptsomanywarm @kritischetheologie @bright-and-burning @a-corn-field if any of u want to but no presh!!!
#i HAVE been listening to albums off some of these that i've seen ppl do (sez i've only listened to wisecrack but more of urs r on my list)#and there have been notable instances of me falling in LOVE with albums off things like these others have done (c mentioning the midnight#organ fight and passive me aggressive you which have become mainstays for me lol)#SO like always if u wanna chat about music or rec me things i'm so here lololol#shshshsh why did i think i had to tag 9 ppl i'm sitting there like oh gotta get 9 and then realized it's just however many u want.#well i want to know everything about all music taste ever so 9 it is...#tag game#yahooo!!!! <33333333333

Game #1: your color + your bias
I was tagged by @jiminsproof and @blueside-hobi to play this. Thanks guys, your posts looked beautiful ❤️
Ummm I know these colors don't match at all but in my defense I was identified as beige. You really can't expect me to have an eye for color or layout or anything really 🤷 also that is not even beige? Wtf is analogue? I hate this
Game #2: on repeat
I was tagged by @blueside-hobi to play this 💕
Sorry for the repeats I didn't feel like typing everything out lol

attention new country artists online: you cannot say you're bringing back "that good old country sound" if you're exclusively posting blake shelton and toby keith covers. good lord
#for the love of god develop some taste and at least listen to a kris kristofferson song or something PLEASE#posts that only i care about#also while im here. fuck you zach topp. you're masquerading as a country musician and your entire career is just you begging people to say#that you sound like alan jackson. your album is called cold beer and country music. you are a fraud#this post wasnt even originally about him but jesus h christ can we see at least a modicum of originality#rather than countless conservatives with a total misunderstanding of the genre banking on nostalgia as a selling point for subpar covers an#imitations of what's already been done#anyway. lets all join hands and listen to robert earl keen and willi carlilse and jason isbell and tyler childers and bella white and#riddy arman and sierra ferrell and rhiannon giddens and senora may and melissa carper. please.#melissa carper had a song in snw btw.#also rek has a song based on christabel. it's soo good too. weirdest colliding of my interests ever.#and he has a toby keith diss track. everyone cheer.#sorry. sometimes i have to country music post or i go crazy.#also i thought of more good country musicians. kassi valazza and billy strings and bruce robison and vincent neil emerson#i never want anyone near me to ever say that stupid tired line about 9/11 ruining country music like sorry y'all are bad at finding new#musicians but could not be me.

i miss pop punk josh :/
#fitting that this album is structured off a color-by-numbers interpretation of storytelling because it’s dry and rote as hell#*i haven’t gotten through a full listen yet but after track three the momentum dies. i am still hopeful the end achieves resuscitation…#…but the start of track 9 (as far as i got) has not convinced me#haven (2024)#EDIT: you know what. maybe i just needed to expel some bitchiness because i turned back to t9 right after posting#and it was easily my favorite deep cut so far. bring me back to life babeeeyy#EDIT II: back to being bored :/

i have been editing for hours on end bc one of my finals is due tonight and it's nowhere near done and it's gotten to a point where i needed to take a break from focusing on the editing timeline and just do something silly and stupid so time to listen to the kidz bop cover of nickelback's "photograph" aka the most bizarre kidz bop cover i have ever heard
youtube
sharing it so more people can access this cursed gem
#everyone thinks the funniest kidz bops are the ones where they change/censor the most lyrics. but NO. they're the early ones#where the lyrics might as well just be the radio-friendly edit but the production choices are just baffling#nowadays kidz bop hires professional child singers but in the early years they might as well have been recording random kids on the street#anyway i have listened to a lot of early kidz bop bc i did a powerpoint night standup set on the history of kidz bop#(there's unfortunately no video but i want to someday make a video essay out of it bc it was very fun)#but if y'all ever want to hear peak so-bad-it's-hilarious kidz bop the album for you is kidz bop 9#february 2006. incredibly misguided covers of ''beverly hills'' by weezer#and the source of that meme with the voice crack on ''we belong together''#but this one takes the cake for the highest number of ''what the fuck'' moments#Youtube

Song of the Day: December 12
"The Long Goodbye" by Brooks & Dunn
#song of the day#did I ever tell y'all that around the end of September / beginning of October I went through and listened to every Brooks & Dunn song?#every non-Christmas song at least. full non-holiday-special discography#several times as I went through I found a song I didn't think I recognized and then when I started playing it I knew the words#this is one of them!#it's off their 2001 album 'Steers & Stripes' which--this was an odd thing to realize when I first saw it#y'all know that post that's like '9/11 didn't actually start the US nationalism. there's a reason 9/11 happened in 2001'?#Steers & Stripes came out in April of 2001 and the song 'Only in America' was already on it#(and also you know. the album is called 'Steers & Stripes'. a little embarrassing frankly)#an interesting marker in tracking the shift in country music from 'love my home and people; hate The Man' to only 'love My Country'#anyway I think I got just enough time with the song before 9/11 for it to be familiar once I heard it again this October#but it didn't get enough air time after 9/11 for me to recognize it before the music started up#a shame really because I do like it#anyway it's the song of the day because I was singing it while I made dinner and then I burnt my finger halfway through the song#and broke off for a really undignified yelp and scared the cat :( poor Thomas

i dont use spotify but i did end up doing a new install of poweramp almost exactly a year ago because i switched phones so here's what's the top of the "most played" category. i wanna be involved too LOL
#now this is not a list of the things i most listened to - because the way poweramp categorizes plays seems to be like#how many times you specifically click on a song#and i listen to everything on shuffle forever. my method of listening to music is put the thing on shuffle and press next until i find#something i wanna listen to and then put that on repeat#and i dont think poweramp classifies finding something on shuffle nor does it classify repeats as more plays#BUT these songs were specifcally clicked by me a bunch so thats something LOL#not the top 10 because my settings make only the top 8 visible in a screenshot HFJDKHJD BUT if u wanna know#9 was kage asobi (another jump into the new world song LOL) and number 10 was the poet and the muse from alan wake 1#as u can see i was listening to the liella subunit album a LOT and specifically i was clicking the different songs often#largely cause i was trying to get a handle on the new girl tomoris voice HJKDS but also because 5yncri5e sounds FANTASTIC#especially a little love like kinako and tomori OWN that song they song so so good in it#also for some reason i remembered that portugal the man song from like the far off year of 2010 and it was stuck in my head a lot hjkdhd#triage is great i dunno its just a really fun song to listen to. i was also so very shocked by the video that shidou. is a dad. LOL#mkdr/dscf is just an addicting song so i definitely was aiming for it often#idol is just a very good song also LOL#and hanako by atarashii gakko is so fun everyne should listen to atarashii gakko#also like most of these songs i like partially becaue they make me think of specific ocs but im too lazy to say which ones are which LOL#but thats another reason they were clicked on rather than shuffled to. thinking about.....ocs HJKFSL
