versatile tarot spreads: three card draw (3 cards)

This post is part of a short series on "tarot spreads which require you to bring your own questions to the table."

I have never excelled at small spreads, but please let me suggest this: like knowing how to make a nice roux gravy, knowing how to work a three card spread is a fundamental skill in tarot. It is not a good spread because it is "easy".

I actually do not think it is "easy." Like a single boiled egg cooked to perfect temperature and forced to stand on its own without sauces or ramen, if it's not done very well, it fails. I think it is easy to get good enough and hard to get great.

It is a good spread because learning it will let you work a lot of really nice, fancy spreads. Have it in your back pocket and you can cook a five-course spread meal on the fly and impress anyone in eyeballing distance of your cards.

The three card draw works well in many applications, but I would especially like to focus on its aspects of beginning/middle/end.

When you pose one single, small, individual question to the three card draw, you can begin to see the fabulous ways the cards interlink to produce stories not possible when single cards stand on their own.

Especially keep an eye on whether or not any cards spell disruption to an otherwise harmonious triad - this will make the refinement of your reading pop.

VII - THE CHARIOT

Today I asked my cards if I'll ever be less lonely.

Yeah. They knew who I meant, and I think they agree with my assessment that I need to just let that person go.

I just found out that someone who strung me along for months has been dating someone else. I'm sad about it and was considering trying to talk to them about it.

Five of Wands. Conflict. Conflict in the way we communicated, conflict in the way we handled things, conflict in myself over the whole relationship because I grew up religious and if I'm ever outed it's going to seriously strain my familial relationships. So much conflict. None of it has turned out to be worth it.

King of Cups, reversed. Unreliability, lack of boundaries. I never could rely on them to reach out to me, and half the time I didn't even get a response when I reached out. When I did get a response, it was usually brief and I didn't understand why. I finally addressed the relationship about a week ago. The most infuriating part is that they told me not to apologize for my part because it was on them too. It... it felt shitty. It felt dismissive. It felt like they didn't want to talk to me about it and like they'd moved on long before I realized there was even a problem. I just didn't realize they had until today.

Knight of Swords, reversed. Pushy, aggressive. I'm certainly feeling that right now. I haven't brought it up to them and I don't think I should because I know I'll end up screaming at them. I'll end up throwing all the anger, the hurt, the fear I'm feeling at them. It won't make me feel better, and it'll just make the person in charge of this social circle kick me out because of course I had to catch feelings for the bestest best friend of the leader, didn't I?

This deck seems to only give me the things I need to be slapped upside the head with. It's been kind, always, but damn. I think I need to give this person and the community they're part of some space. I was originally thinking I could just hang out while they're not there, but that's kind of what I was doing before and getting sloppy with that boundary is what got me stuck in this position right now. I didn't need to know they were already in another relationship. I don't need to know how long. I just need to move on and if that means I need to leave that group entirely then

Finally got the go ahead to share that I worked on designing sketch cards for UpperDeck’s Halo Legacy Card collection. All but Noble Six were accepted! Can’t wait to see if people get my cards in their packs.
