North Shore ballast por Chris Guss Por Flickr: I never expected to get a train powered by a pair of SD40-2s on my first trip to the north shore of Lake Superior in 2019. Here, eastbound ballast train 2GPS-29 hugs the shoreline near Kama Lookout in Ontario.

A Handful of Hirelings 1
Some NPCs you might find looking for work. (Mostly system neutral but with a few osr style stats) 1. Prince Otwin (Level 0)
A naive prince looking for adventure
Found: In large cities, or wandering the roads Pay: Expects no pay, and only interested in especially noteworthy treasure Characteristics:
Uppity.
Has a +1 longsword (but is no good at using it).
Wants to experience 'real adventuring.'
Unwilling to do menial tasks.
Has 700gp 'pocket money' he is readily willing to spend.
Knowledgeable about courtly manners.
Accompanied by a single servant, either: Hildegard (Fighter) or Otto (level 0, tutor).
2. Zoltán (Level 0)
An author trying to do research for his new bestiary
Found: In towns or just outside the lair of a dangerous beast Pay: 5 sp per day, quarter share of treasure Characteristics:

Does not seem to know fear. Fascinated by what should be terrifying.
Will attempt to get close enough to any creatures you encounter to observe and/ or sketch them.

3. Clovis (Level 0)
It seems the party has acquired a fan club
Found: In the parties 'base town' or somewhere the party saved. Pay: Will accept whatever the party offers Characteristics:

A crow trainer
Found: On the outskirts of town Pay: 1gp per day, half share of treasure Characteristics:

Strict but caring.
Very strong.

Will do most tasks other than fighting
Will attempt to insist on sensible bedtimes and distribute gold stars to party members for ‘good behavior’ such as sharing, good manners, or tidying up.

Session 59a Sat 23 Nov 2024
Preparations for the Shanrigol Behemoth: Blunt arrows for Luna, a reading from Wrin, buy some holy water, Nadia wants to make Redpitch bombs as well as the two healing mist grenades she fashioned last week, and maybe do something with that thing she found and wanted to make Sprocket some little armour. Remind Hartvig about his Crying Angel pendant. Would probably be stretching the crafting time to make special bullets, but if the others want to do lots of prep we might have a couple of days. She does have the bombs she stole from Jafaki’s corpse as well. (Reminder for me more than journal entry so far, but that thing is BIG, okay??)
It has an AC of 29 and Tremorsense. We should use spells that force Will saves, Bludgeoning damage, holy/positive damage, and fire and electrical damage seem to do ok against it. In addition, anything to boost the AC of up close fighters (Jorgy and Augustus) if we have it, and have spellcasters and ranged fighters use cover as much as possible. Hartvig’s Bless spell was very useful.
The DM takes pity on us and lowers the AC before we go in. Except that feels like cheating, so we ask him not to. Sprocket proposes feeding Jorg’ath to the shanrigol, and then Enlarging him; don’t know if we’ll do that or not.
Sprocket is better unarmored than with it, so Nadia offers her skills for moving runes in and out of weapons; everyone is good, however. Skabb can make some shielding salves, those might be useful for Jorgy and Augustus. She wants to make one for everyone if she has time; normally it would cost her 2gp per salve and also the time, but we’re still playing Baby’s First Pathfinder for now, and the DM won’t start properly enforcing the rules until the next level of the dungeon. She can make one for free, RAW.
The DM also offers us some advice: our Cloracle can cast Protection: +1 to AC and saves at first level - at 3rd, he can protect all of us. For one minute. He doesn't have that spell, but he could buy a scroll…
Skabb petitions for the DM to let us bring Augie with us. If we’re okay with a higher AC, he says, then it seems odd to bring him as he’s very OP. Skabb agrees to just bring some stuff back for him instead. The DM will let us bring him in if we find we’re getting absolutely mullered. Oh! And we should get a multipack of healing potions. And empty out the font at the temple of Sarenrae.
And we need to utilise our surprise round.
Skabb gives Jorg’ath her Ichthyosis Mutagen, which Hartvig re-christens as a “potion of infinite barbarian”:
Tumblr media
Jorg’ath goes to see his crow wife, who can provide him with another mutagen to boost his AC. Oh wait, they don’t stack so he can only use one. He will use Skabb’s, and we will save the other for if we have to run away (again) and come back (again). We will all get one of the crow-wife ones, if we speak nicely to her. Nadia buys everyone a lesser healing potion.
Preparations made, we head back down to the dungeon and shoo away Katy Perry, who is still there from last week.
Hartvig: “… Why am I at the front?” Luna, immediately: “That’s what you get for missing a week.”
Just as we’re ready to start, the DM drops off the face of the earth. His internet has crapped out completely, so we will try again next week! Skabb calls him and puts him on speakerphone, and he apologises and lets us know to have an idea of what we want to do with our level up once we’ve beaten the shanrigol. Well, we’ll be ready to go straight away next week at least. In theory…
