Okay, y'all.
I'm gonna be really up front with everybody in a way that I'm usually not:
This year so far has been really rough, in a way that kinda has me worried. Bear with me, and there will be dog pictures along the way and pictures of new swag at the end, ok?
Running a small business is always rough, and with everything going on - with me being down-and-out struggling to get my hysterectomy approved, with everything going on financially & politically, with Jake moving out here - we knew that this year probably wouldn't be a banner year, but...
... when I pulled reports at the end of May, I was kinda shocked and gutted because at the start of June, we were actually down a considerable amount year over year. I knew the year wouldn't be great, but like, oof.
Pride is usually where we make our money for the year - we call it "gay Christmas," because where other retailers count on their holiday season, we count on Pride to make sure that our employees get paid during January of the following year.
Pause for Ser Davos Seawoof:
This Pride has started ... slowly. Not terribly, but a little more slowly than I'm comfortable with, and slowly enough that I'm nervous. We invested a lot of money in new stock and equipment, and that's got to pay off. Right?
So here's the pitch:
We need to make at least $60K in sales this month to make sure that we're in good shape for the upcoming year. We are currently at $8100, and we have a two-day event coming up in Seattle at the end of the month, but that still gives us an awful lot of ground to make up.
If we hit our sales goal for this month, NerdyKeppie will donate 1% of our net profit for June to @queerliblib.
Just hitting that goal would both make it possible for us to know we can make it through the year & even if we have the worst profit margins this month, it'd be a minimum $250 donation.

not super surprised bc i haven't gone to the bathroom in a few days so if i do i'll weigh myself again lol (update: i didn't)
food:
iced shaken espresso (w/ l@x)- 100 cals
kale crunch salad w/ grilled chicken- 265 cals (my fav safe food combo from chickfila if y'all wanna hear about it)

l: 1/2 serving grinder bean salad, not counting vinaigrette left at bottom (250), cucumbers (didn’t eat all -30), 55g ricotta (didn’t eat all-70) = 350
d: 1 oz crackers (100) with 1 oz brie (100) topped with baby plum and fried onions (10), sugar snap peas and tomatoes (40) + 2 tbsp jalapeno whipped feta (78) = 328

exercise: 1.5 hr intense cleaning … sadly thats it
notes: this is on the low end for me tbh, i need to remind myself i can’t try to compete w myself or my bf will notice. this is why i wish i had a fitbit or an apple watch again so i could see my tdee but for now i just have to guess. will probably eat higher today to keep up appearances

i went and counted at like 2/3 rds of the commissions ive posted since the start of the pandemic and there is no wonder why i am so burnt out and tired.
this is only counting most of what i posted publically, not privately and i didnt include all of the ones that i didnt see the names of at a glance to add to a list but-
just since like may of 2020 ive done at least 200-250 commissions. trying to account for things like stream commissions or things i didnt actually post publically or were anon/DNP, that number might be upwards of 300.
Im just saying but like, looking at that, i feel a lot less bad about why my art might be stagnating; quality wise. but it comes full circle when i think about how much debt im still in and that i can barely pay my bills and my mental health has NEVER been worse.
im so exhausted bro lmfao. most industry artists usually take a 30 hr project they break up over 2-3 months. A SINGLE PROJECT. I try to do a 30 hr project in a matter of days and charge 1/10th the price. its not viable.
i dont mean to rant (i totally do) because i still enjoy my job i just wish i could catch a break or smthn. DONT MAKE ME TAP THE CHART.

Day 5 of 5 day workout week:
I’m a day late with posting this, but it still counted! I finished my first full post-Covid workout week. 👊🏽 I definitely had to pace myself and monitor my HR and intensity. But, I felt stronger every day I put the time in. I finished out the week with:
-An active strength training routine using 8-10 lb weights for both compound and static exercises
-A 30 minute HIIT workout burning over 250 kcal
This was a solid week of work and a big step in the right direction. Big weekend ahead! Really looking forward to it!

Writing/Art Update 2/28/2023
The sentences have been flowing less well this week.
I'm still doing it! I have made my sentence every day! I think it's always been more than one sentence, maybe about 100 words most days. Word count is 8158, or +1750, which I guess is 250 words/day on average, but I think there was high variance. Also, quite a few of those words are notes to myself like [FINISH THIS SCENE] or [FIND A HOME FOR THIS]. It still looks more like an amorphous blob of scenes than a story, but I feel like it's sort of coalescing into something story-shaped. It's one of those stories that you have to make by chipping away everything that's not story, I think. It starts out very rough and stays that way for a long time, until you get to the very end of working on it and it comes together all of a sudden. At least, I hope it will.
I absolutely hate being so slow. It sucks so, so bad. I know I got a lot else going on and it's not like I ever feel like writing, so I'm glad I'm putting in anything, but it's also pretty miserable. I wish I could feel like this is some temporary thing that I will get over eventually, but I have been getting progressively slower over the 4+ years I have been writing. The primary reason I write is because it's not like anyone else is making the very specific content I want and I got very mad at myself in the middle of the week because I wanted new scenes to read on one any of three other WIPs I have that I have not worked on.
I also drew (1) Menos this week. I did some drawing with my kids on actual paper, too, that was...um...I do not like drawing on paper. It's awful. It reminds me how much I like drawing on my tablet. I have so much respect for people who do traditional art, because it's is a wholly nerve-wracking and unpleasant experience for me. I am hoping to do some Mike Mignola art studies this week because I like the way he draws skeletons. Art is slow, too. I think the projects I've been doing are good for me and my current pace, but I also miss drawing my blorbos? I wish I were capable of drawing them in <600 hrs, but that is not the reality I live in.
I made some bad cookies this week. (My cookies always spread horrifically) Pro(?)tip: Butterfinger bits *sound* like a good idea, but they add a lot of oil, which contribute to the spreading problem. My daughter requested that I make her a few cookies without them, and they spread less (but still too much). This was actually a pretty interesting discovery, and I might try reducing the amount of butter in my recipes slightly. (and do not @ me about room temperature butter, I have read those articles, and in this case, it was browned butter that was melted and then put in the fridge and the cookies were in the fridge overnight there is no helping me I am like a wizard of not being able to bake cookies)
In other news, the best dog in the world is getting a tumor removed from her mouth today, so please think healing thoughts for her.

Day 250/ sept21
Allowed some 20 mins to enjoy the sun and read a few pages in hope it will get me back on track
More leisurely than usual. Painting time was 4 hrs. I did spend considerable time on collecting references and watching educational vids before leaving home. I mean this also counts as artistic activity 🤷♀️
Got some helpful insights from N. Never would've thought 😵🤯😇

FUCK my parents are home, usually when they go out for errands they bring home fast food for me and i am??? freaking out. i've been fasting for over 24 hrs at this point just so i can feel less guilty about having brownies and drink alch for my birthday tonight/tomorrow (bday is tomorrow but celebrating w my bestie tonight) someone told me cals dont count on ur bday but with how my weight has just been STUCK at 250 for weeks is killing me. I got to 249 for a day but my bestie made me eat so I went back up. I just wanna get over this hump so badly I'm sick of seeing my weight fluxuate from 249-253

Thursday, January 2nd, 2025!
8:55am: Slept for 10 hrs holy shit. I need to clean my work shoes and go to the gym lol. Going to the gym earlier today bc I think I'll want to do stuff tonight out n about :)
10:42am: Had a egg mcmuffin and a water bottle w Allegra, aspirin and multivitamin. (310 cal) Omw to the laundromat bc I didn't want to deal with my apartment stupid little machines. Also I took the litter box out so I'm already at peak productivity today 😂 it feels weird not being drunk doing laundry except I can't get drunk bc I want to go to the gym afterwards.
3:20pm: Done with the laundry at about 1:47p then just bedrotten for an hour looking up couponing shit 😅 having a frozen kimbap for lunch (330 cal) and a water bottle, still not drunk at all, doing couponing sober also feels weird but I want to go to the gym!
4:57pm: Sushi from fresh market (250 cal) going to the fresh market took forever bc I'm not used to the layout. Plus there was stuff I was looking for that I couldn't find so legit going in circles repeatedly lol
10:03pm: Lol I did not end up going to the gym, but I did go to the library! Got my first book of the new year 🥳 so that counts towards my resolutions. Also, me thinking I was going to the gym all day made me not drink while I was doing chores!! 🎊🥳 Literally a huge win for me ❤️ Today was absolutely a success in my book :) having some cheesy crackers rn and I drank a bunch of water today so I didn't get that dehydrated store feeling! So proud of myself.
