The first time Buck visits Tommy at home, he feels oddly nervous.

He isn't even sure why, because Tommy has been at his place a couple of times already. But for some reason Buck can't pinpoint, this feels like a big deal.

Tommy opens the door and pulls him in for a long kiss right there.

"Hey," Buck murmurs when they finally come up for air. "Missed you too."

Tommy gives him a wide grin. "I was just making sure all the neighbors know wo you are."

"And who's that?" Buck asks and playfully taps his shoe against Tommy's.

"The man who'll be stopping by more often. Come in, I'll give you the tour."

The second time Buck gets to Tommy's house, he finds his boyfriend outside, working on a car.

"Hi, I wasn't expecting you yet," Tommy says and starts packing up his tools.

Buck's brain goes offline. Because Tommy is wearing jeans that look like they've been painted on, and a tank top that emphasizes how ridiculously broad his shoulders are.

"Traffic was..." Buck has no idea how to finish that sentence. Or how to think when Tommy looks like this.

"Are you okay?" Tommy asks, but there's a slight twitch to his mouth, like he can barely stop himself from grinning.

"You need a shower," Buck blurts out.

"I do, hm?"

"Yes, it's super hot today. In fact, I should come with you and make sure you're okay."

"Subtle," Tommy laughs, but he's looking at Buck like he's cute and charming. "But I meant it when I said we can take it slow."

Buck feels like he's going to lose his mind if he can't get his hands on this man right now.

"Fuck slow," he declares and crowds Tommy against the side of the car.

The fifth time Buck is at Tommy's house, it's at the end of a really long shift. He needs food, sleep and a hug, maybe not in that order, and Tommy told him to come over no matter how late it gets.

They eat pizza and watch half a movie before Buck falls asleep on the sofa. Tommy nudges him awake and says: "Come on, bed."

Buck follows him upstairs, crawls into bed and wraps himself around Tommy like an octopus. For some reason it feels completely normal, almost mundane, like they do this all the time.

There's a brief moment of disorientation when Buck wakes up in the morning, before he remembers where he is and how he got there. Then he snuggles against Tommy and goes right back to sleep.

Buck stops counting after that, but sleeping at Tommy's house after a tough shift becomes a thing. Even if Buck is tired or Tommy is grumpy, even if both of them are useless at making conversation, they still make each other feel better.

There's something deeply comforting about sleeping in the same bed. About going to sleep wrapped in each other's arms, about slowly waking up together. There's always an overnight bag in the Jeep now, just in case Buck wants to go to Tommy's place after work.

It doesn't take long before Tommy says: "This is stupid, just leave your clothes here."

Buck is doing his best not to move in. It's too early for that, no matter how sure he is of his feelings for Tommy, but he has a drawer in the bedroom now, and another (smaller) drawer in the bathroom.

Buck knows he can be a lot, and he's not going to take over Tommy's space. But he clears out a drawer at the loft, even if they are spending most of their time together at Tommy's house now. He just needs Tommy to know there's room for him in Buck's life.

It's so wildly different from all of his previous relationships, where Buck felt like was running after something. Now he just finds a pair of Tommy's jeans in his laundry pile, and his favorite sweater always seems to be at Tommy's place these days.

It feels effortless.

Buck yawns and presses his face into the pillows. "I want to sleep in your bed all the time," he says and wraps an arm around Tommy. "Seriously, I love sleeping with you. Not sleeping... You know what I mean."

Tommy is quiet for a moment. "I want you to sleep in my bed all the time too."

"Yeah?" Buck lifts his head and blinks at him sleepily.

Tommy hums softly. "I like mornings a lot better with you. Or going off shift and knowing you'll be here when I come home. The house always feels too quiet when you're not around."

"So I should just be here all the time?" Buck asks, just to be sure.

Tommy wraps his arms around Buck and kisses him gently. "Think you can stand that?"

Buck imagines what that's going to be like. Mornings and evenings, days off, nights wrapped around each other. Sharing his whole life with Tommy. He doesn't even have to think about it.

"Actually that sounds amazing."

I'm urging my fellow women and girls to work on being more of an ally to trans men and to non-binary people who were afab.

I used to think I was trans, and I wasn't ready for all the transphobia I faced from women and girls. Out of everyone, they were the most transphobic group I faced by far.

Read works by trans men and non-binary people who were afab. Talk to trans men and non-binary people who were afab. Once you do that, you'll realize that they're not choosing to "leave" your gender out of hatred for women. They're not some kind of anti-feminist gender traitors.

And they're not inherently any more gross, disgusting, or unclean than cis men are. Even when I identified as trans, I'd see other queer people talking about how "trans men are so gross -- they don't even moisturize."

When you see trans men as more unclean than cis men, you're not really seeing them as men. You're seeing them as women who failed at being women, and you need to stop.

I could go on and on about how women and girls treated me when I was trans. There was always an implication that I was attracted to them specifically when I wasn't. I could talk about hate crimes and violence and suicide.

But I'm going to end it by just saying this: you're not a trans ally if you look down on trans men and non-binary people who were afab, period.
