21Jan2021 Memory Still one of my favorite poems 21Jan2013 Still I Rise by Maya Angelou You may write me down in history With your bitter, twisted lies, You may trod me in the very dirt But still, like dust, I'll rise. Does my sassiness upset you? Why are you beset with gloom? 'Cause I walk like I've got oil wells Pumping in my living room. Just like moons and like suns, With the certainty of tides, Just like hopes springing high, Still I'll rise. Did you want to see me broken? Bowed head and lowered eyes? Shoulders falling down like teardrops. Weakened by my soulful cries. Does my haughtiness offend you? Don't you take it awful hard 'Cause I laugh like I've got gold mines Diggin' in my own back yard. You may shoot me with your words, You may cut me with your eyes, You may kill me with your hatefulness, But still, like air, I'll rise. Does my sexiness upset you? Does it come as a surprise That I dance like I've got diamonds At the meeting of my thighs? Out of the huts of history's shame I rise Up from a past that's rooted in pain I rise I'm a black ocean, leaping and wide, Welling and swelling I bear in the tide. Leaving behind nights of terror and fear I rise Into a daybreak that's wondrously clear I rise Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave, I am the dream and the hope of the slave. I rise I rise I rise. One of my favorite poems. As I was re-reading her poem for the first time in years. It was coming to me that I knew it nearly by heart. I don't even remember memorizing it. When I can't remember my own haikus without looking on the page. But there is just something so compelling about her words that I could not help but to remember and that is the power of resonance and artistry. To the woman whose poetry introduced me to "phenomenal" and inspired by thoughts of how to define myself to others.

21Jan2021 Memory 21Jan2013 The lovely young lady and her friends I met Thursday night! Thank you Lebec. I stopped to talk to your daughter and her friends. One was gracious enough not to eat my burrito while he held it so I could take a pic of the girls. Your daughter directed me to your shop but I went in the wrong door and met the most amazing group of people where we ended up talking for hours over the most amazing food and the perfect sips of wine ($3 at Stater Bros) about superheroes, polka, Dr. Demento, music, education, life, relationships and growth. I don't what time I met your daughter but I didn't leave the shop next door until 11pm. By then I followed the music back to gallery and spent all night in a jam session with Ginno, Marcos, Naomi, Maria Bernardette and their friends. Your make-up artistry was beautiful. I saw many wide and eager smiles telling me who designed their faces. Each unique and individualistic array of colors enhanced their proud smiles and easy laughter. It was their excitement that drew my attention. Your daughter and her friends delightfully shared their eagerness and excitement with me and made me feel welcome. You are a blessed woman. #ontario #artwalk #ontarioartwalk #night #talk #daughter #teen #teenagers #teens #friends #serendipity #meeting #people #talk #food #wine #heroes #superheroes #music #polka #DrDemento #life #relationships #growth #gallery #jamsession #makeup #artist #art #beautiful #design (at Ontario, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/CKVOn1UgLrx/?igshid=er7ll6ekwo6g

21Jan2021 Memory 21Jan2013 I have definitely travel into the new frontiers with my typos. And sometimes I can't even remember enough of the first 3 letters to get the thread for it to try. That's when I found out that www.dictionary.com has a polite way of saying "I think you meant this.." I have been laughing at my own mistakes more since then. Words have once again become my friends. #selfie #travel #mistakes #selfcare #comic #cancer #breastcancer #awareness #frontiers #mindful #survivor #california #socal #ie #inlandempire #micromemoir #microstory聽 #southerncalifornia #usa #typo #autocorrect #fails #fail #dictionary #writersofinstagram #poetsofinstagram #teachersofinstagram #educatorsofinstagram (at Riverside, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/CKVNGllArrV/?igshid=3920wy6cbt35

6 years ago, this #photograph by #DenisThorp reminded me of taking the #Metrolink into Union Station for weekly meetings at the corporate office of the non-profit organization I once worked. Those long rides across the Inland Empire and the stroll through the iconic train station.
