Sometimes taking a look back on the past year at something I really enjoy doing helps put things in perspective. For me, it was a chance to clear my head from some of the chaos happening IRL, and to tell myself it was okay to do something just for me that makes me happy.

Fics I had the most fun writing: March With Me for SC This was a daily flash fic venture. I did not write a lot of longer fics this year. I really enjoyed the prompts for this month.

Boo! for HS I really wanted to write a Halloween fic this year. I came up with the idea of Charlie wanting to go a Halloween party with Nick as a couple, but Nick was not out yet. By dressing up, Charlie got to see what it was like going out in public as a couple, and Nick would get to see that as well.

Characters I enjoyed writing the most: I will never get tired of writing David and Stevie. I'm also really starting to like getting into Nick and Charlie's heads. And then, of course, getting the chance to write about ace characters like Maddy and Isaac made me very happy.

Biggest challenge in 2024: I moved out of my fanfic comfort zone and entered 3 writing contests. (I even moved up to the next level in one of them!)

Plans for the rest of 2024: For SC, I am currently working on the Monthly Color Drabble Challenge for December White Out. I have a Secret Santa Gift Exchange that will be posted, and I'm working on a Frozen Over fic. For HS I'd like to write a Christmas Fic.

Plans for 2025: For SC, I have 2 multi-chapter WIPS I would really like to try and finish. And continue with the drabbles. Even if I'm not in the headspace to write a one-shot, the drabbles help to keep me engaged in the fandom. For HS, I have an AU multi-chapter fic I'm working on. I may want to try a daily flash fic for HS.

Most importantly in 2025? I hope to keep writing and that I continue to enjoy it.

24,701 words published to ao3, which is a little less than half of last year’s total, but there was a lot of life happening this year that made writing difficult.

My writing tracker only lasted until April so I don’t honestly know how many words I’ve written, but I did work on several things that are still WIPs.

Miscellaneous Data From My Unhinged Spreadsheet about 2024 fics

The fic with the highest percentage of private bookmarks is you can call me, call me, anytime which is a little surprising.

Out of 14 published fics, 11 were E, 1 was M and 2 were T, which is a very different distribution than usual, but that’s because 10 of the 14 fics were kinktober lol.

I wrote David/Patrick, Alex/Henry, and June/Nora. Also started a Stevie/Alexis kinktober fic that I have yet to finish.

1 title came from canon, 1 didn’t have a source, and the other twelve were from the following artists (1 each): The Bens, Mariah Carey, Billy Joel, Regina Spektor, the Neighbourhood, MUNA, Chapterhouse, The Dixie Cups, West Side Story, Noah Reid, Matt Nathanson, and Blondie.

Highest kudos to hits ratio is a long winter of indifference

I published 8 fics in October, 2 in November, and one each in January, February and March. Not publishing anything in April broke a 2.5 year streak of publishing at least one fic per month (October 2021-April 2024) and I had a lot of feelings about it.

My average fic length this year was 1,645 words.

Stats specifically about Kinktober

Ten total fics and 13,792 words published so far - hoping this updates before the end of the year.

Five were David/Patrick, 4 were Alex/Henry and 1 was June/Nora

3 were David POV, 2 were Patrick POV, 3 were Alex POV, and 1 each were Henry and June POV.

Longest was I feel dizzy, I feel sunny, I feel fizzy and funny and fine, because apparently I have a lot to say about Patrick in lingerie, which is very valid of me tbh.

Shortest was you can call me, call me, anytime, which was epistolary.

Most popular by hits was head in the clouds but my gravity’s centered. Least popular by both hits and kudos was I know it gets hard just to breathe sometimes (I’m never gonna forget your name) which was breathplay so that’s fair.

I have an exchange fic to finish and also am really hoping to finally get the exes to lovers fic finished. Potentially other kinktober fics, and maybe if I’m really on a roll, either the black swan au or the pretty princess fic. We’ll see!

Comparing the overall flat view stats to the ones for 2024 is a fun comparison. I do love that my most popular fic overall is Geliefde, for a number of reasons.

While my volume of words posted for 2024 has been HUGE, I have also found myself slowing down on output in the second half of this year. Lots on my plate, and working more thoughtfully on my writing. I do have a slew of WIPs and ideas in the works, but it might take a bit to get them all done and published. I do hope to get Vakantie up before the end of the year, hopefully around the holiday break. Then y'all can look forward to more stories in 2025. Writing fan fic helps keep me sane, so it's going to keep being a part of my life.

Fanfic Writer Wrapped - 2024 Version!

I guess we're supposed to post this and let people ask us, but I don't want to mess with that stuff. Mainly because I don't think I'll get much interaction, but also because I just kind of want to answer these myself. Is that really so bad? So anyways, it's based off this post, and the OG author gets all credit for thinking up a million questions for me to answer. Thank you @asirensrage

2024 Fanfic Writing Reflections

What fic did you work on the most this year? Probably Deceit and Decay. It's a dark fic set in the Ikemen Prince world, staring my OC, Dahlia, who was Belle and never met the Conqueror Beast, Gilbert von Obsidian. In other words, he's gone off the deep end. 50,000 words, so far, about 20 chapters. Still a wip.

Did you have any fic writing goals? Did you meet them? Just to write more, so yeah, I met them. I work best with ambiguous, not SMART goals. I tried a lot of different ideas, and I had a lot of fun with them all.

How many fics did you work on this year? 50 published. There's probably another dozen still in my WIP folder, so maybe 60-ish?

How many new fics did you post this year? 49, I think? My long fic was started last year, so that takes one out, but otherwise I don't really know when I started and finished most fics. Sorry.

Did you update any old/previously posted fics this year? What were they? Sure. The Royal Lion is my first long fic (100,000 words, 30 chapters), and most of those were written in 2023. I just finished it in February or something.

Do you have a favorite fic you wrote? Nope. I'm not sure how I'd rate most liked to least liked with my fics.

What’s your favorite passage that you wrote this year? I can't remember what I said to someone yesterday, I certainly don't remember what I wrote over the last 12 months. I often read my work and go, "Wow! I wrote that?!" But I clearly did at some point.

Favorite line of dialogue this year? Nope, can't name that either. Sorry. Maybe I should have read these questions more than just skimmed them.

Favorite POV? (or rather what POV did you use the most this year?) Probably third person omniscient. I also wrote a lot of second person with reader-inserts, so I'm not sure which is more used for me.

Did you find yourself repeating a word or phrase in your writing this year? If so, what was it? Ahaha. Uh... probably something about panting or moaning. 80% of what I write is smut.

Cut for length. Numbers are going to reset. :(

How did you help other writers this year? (i.e. leaving comments, reviews, beta reading, offering advice, etc) All of the above. I leave comments on most things on ao3. I reblog on tumblr. I beta read a few times. I cheerlead. I helped when people requested advice for things. I talk through a lot of ideas with others. I love supporting other writers.

Did you receive any advice that resonated to you this year? Oh, hmm. Yes. "There aren't any rules in fanfiction." It's such a simple idea that everyone knows, but when I was fretting how to end my long fic so it could work with the next in the series I was going to write that didn't need to be connected to the current one, a friend said, "Why is this a problem?" Then she said the rules part and I was like, "Oh. Yeah. That's right." Like, we don't have to do anything at all to make the fanfic consumable commercially. That's not the point of fanfic. It's to write whatever we want and enjoy creating. Who cares if there are plot holes? Who cares if it's crack taken seriously? Nothing has to work between fics. There are no rules.

What did you enjoy most about writing fic this year? Trying out new styles and genres. Finding out what I like to write, and how I like to write.

What did you enjoy the least? Having too many ideas and not enough time.

Who was your favorite character to write for? My OC Emmit from my Ikemen Prince gender change AU. He's a fucking adorable bean and I loved bringing to life my first original character.

Did you have a song on repeat while writing this year? Nope. I tend to listen to a playlist of instrumental stuff, so nothing on repeat except the playlist.

Did you make any playlists for your fics this year? What are they? Oh, no. I'm not that creative. I'm very bad connecting music with characters.

What’s your favorite thing you made for your fic or character this year? (such as pinterest, moodboards, gifs, etc) Huhn. I hadn't considered that. I guess the banners for my fics listed on my masterlist. I like designing things.

What was your most commonly used tag for your fics (on ao3, tumblr, etc)? Ikepri fanfic on tumblr, and Gilbert von Obsidian on ao3.

Did you participate in any fic writing challenges this year? I did! I did a few things for Kinktober. I always go small with my goals.

What was your favorite comment/review you received this year? Oh... There were really too many amazing people that said nice things about the things I wrote about. From just screaming and keyboard smashing, to thoughtful analysis, I really loved reading them all.

What was your top-rated/commented fic this year? Oh! It's the same! "I'm Pregnant" with Ikemen Prince.

Were there any ideas you wanted to work on this year but you didn’t? YES! I wanted to write an IkePri fic about Belle leaving the castle and the king being unable to live without her. I wanted to start my Yves fic for the gender change AU. I wanted to write yandere fics with multiple characters. I wanted to write ships that only exist in my head. Waaaaah.

Were there any new fandoms or genres you explored this year? Yeah! I tried out fluff for the first time. I'm attempting a dark fic. I struggle with crack.

Is there anything you want to write or try to explore in your writing next year? How to evoke more emotion from others in my writing. I want people to fall in love reading about the characters I love. I want people to cry when the story is depressing. I want people to be impacted from my writing, thinking about it for days or weeks later.

Do you have a goal for next year? If so, what is it? Finish at least one long fic. Two are currently WIPs.

What are your hopes and/or desires for yourself and for other fic writers in the next year? To create more. For me that means I hope I'm not sick as often as the previous years. For others that means I want them to care less about what other people think, and just create. It's all beautiful no matter how you see it.

What was your favorite fic to read this year? Oh geez. Pass. I can't even begin to make a favorite. I bookmark fics I love, and I love a lot.

Who was your favorite fic author this year? Can I say myself? lol. I probably read more of @scummy-writes stuff than anything else because we're both obsessed with Gilbert, but I did read several other fandoms and characters. @aquagirl1978 got me into Villains. @xxsycamore is an old favorite who keeps creating more IkeSeries stuff. @wistfulwanderingone created a Secret Santa gift that made me tear up. Aaaaahhhh! Just thinking about it again has me wanting to reread it for a fifth time.

What fics or authors would you recommend for others to discover and read in the next year? See above. I'm partial to anything with Gilbert von Obsidian from Ikemen Prince, but I love a lot of Ikemen Prince. And I enjoy dipping into other IkeSeries fanfics every now and then.

What advice would you have for people who might want to try writing or sharing their writing next year? Just write. Write messily. Write badly. Write in bullet points or through dialogue only. Write however works for you. You can always improve if you wish to improve, but you can't improve when there's nothing written. Turn off notifications if they give you anxiety. Don't even look back at the fic and what numbers it's doing if it's going to affect your mood. Seriously. Just post into the void. Let others fall in love with the people you love.

Any regrets? For writing? No. I regret that my health sucks and it keeps me from creating. I regret that I started writing so late in life. But when it comes to what I did and what I'm planning on doing and what I've put out, I'm so fucking proud of myself.

AHHHHHHH what a YEAR it's been!! I started posting fics back in June of this year, but I believe I started actually writing bg3 fics back in December of 2023. Will those pieces ever see the light of day? Who knows! But I cannot thank this community enough for encouraging and inspiring me, and being such wonderful, supportive friends!

Seeing how much I've written/accomplished this year is very surreal. I love writing and it's so much fun to have this outlet with like-minded weirdos who love and uplift each other's works.

This year, I wrote a total of 213,261 words, spread across 196 fics!

December Writing Stats + 2024 Round Up

Thank god it's over, because I was running out of colours.

Okay lets start with December. I only set myself one goal, lets refresh our memories, shall we?

So this month I'm giving myself a strict deadline: Seasons must be finished by 31st December. Why that one? Well, it should be the easiest, it was never meant to be this long and it started from an ask from the Spotify Wrapped prompt tag game, submitted by the lovely @hbyrde36. I'm not taking a prompt from 2023 into 2025, dude, that's just fucking ridiculous, this is so overdue. It's happening this month!!

Anyone want to guess how that turned out? So anyway, I'll be taking Seasons into 2025 with me...

But! I got stuck into FOBD. I added another 5k to that and the first draft of the first chapter is very nearly done!

This month I wrote over 3k for a Corroded Coffin event that had a 2k word limit... those who know me know this is SOP. 😆 So I'll be posting it outside the event once it's finished... shut up, it grew legs!

I also wrote my first Holiday Drabbles! Didn't make the deadlines, but I still wrote them. 😁

2024 Writing Wrapped

As you probably know if you follow this blog, I am an exceptionally nerdy person! We all love when we're presented with the statistical breakdown for what music we listened to, books we read, etc., and personally I love a statistical breakdown for just about anything.

I present to you my 2024 Writing Wrapped, brought to you by Excel!

This year I've kept track of my wordcounts from February 24 until December 31. Prior to February, I really didn't write at all.

In 2024 I wrote a total of 297,220 words, for an average of 812 words per day (including January in that average, during which I did not write).

On average, I wrote 24,768 words per month. My most productive month was November, when I wrote 53,943 words. My least productive (recorded) month was March, when I wrote 7,463 words.

I wrote on 233 of 366 days this year. That's 64% of the year spent writing! My longest streak was 56 days (8 weeks), spanning from October 15 until December 9. My most productive day was November 28, when I wrote 4,448 words.

(In case you're curious, I wrote 426 words on February 29. Leap Day didn't impact the stats very much, did it?)

During 2024, I did not publish anything traditionally. I published six new fics this year (5 completed, 1 ongoing)! They were published between April 20 and December 5. Between 10 chapters, they come to a total of 33,091 words. In comparison to how much I wrote this year, that represents 11%.

What did I write the rest of the year? Well, I have a whole lot of drafted fics that may or may not get published, piled up in Google Drive. A huge chunk of this writing was put into drafting a novel with @dragon-gem - between the two of us, that came to 167,034 words. Towards the end of the year, quite a bit of these words have gone into planning another novel, which I hope to start drafting relatively soon.

Writing Reflections:

This year, majority of the writing I finished & posted fit one of two categories: "event" or "I had this fun little idea and wrote it out real quick". I think what I can draw from that is twofold. First, I really do thrive when writing is a community activity. I like to write when it's part of a greater effort at engaging with people and building friendships and spreading joy. Second, I got way happier about writing when it began shifting from something I felt like I had to do / should be doing, to something I could just do for fun with quick little things and then toss out into the world. Majority of my fics this year were only cursorily checked over for SPAG issues or not beta'd at all, and a significant number of the short ones were written directly into the ao3 text box and posted without further thought, including "A Guide to Putting Your ADHD Gremlin to Sleep," which ended up being one of my most popular works of the year & honestly all time. This is not to say I put no thought into anything I wrote, because my other most popular work ("So I Choke on Sun") is one I spent weeks working on, despite how short it is, because I knew what I wanted to try to convey in it, and I ended up intensely proud of how it turned out. But I think I wrote so much this year because I really fell back in love with writing for fun first and foremost, and writing as an act of community involvement as a close second, and I really hope to carry that into the new year!

2024 Writing Round-Up

I was tagged by @heylavellan like a week ago (thank you!!!) and then um I wanted to wait until I finished my multi-chapter fic. And now it's Dec 31st. Oops. new things I tried: I don't know if it's new so much as re-learning, but this year I really let myself just write with my heart? I just wrote what I wanted to, rather than agonising as much over whether it needed more plot. It was really freeing <3 Reminded me why I fell in love with writing in the first place.

fic I spent the most time on: Get Away With It, without a doubt.

fic I spent the least time on: Most of the little ficlets on here probably? I bop most of them out in an evening.

favorite thing I wrote: It's this little fic (which is now also on Ao3) !! I spent one (1) evening writing this Cousland and her dumb, stupid crush on Nathaniel Howe and she decided to take up residence in my brain. She's a whole oc now. I love her.

Also, I do feel like I've gotta give my big one a shout-out!! I spent a lot of time working on GAWI, not just writing, but researching pregnancy and babies and everything so I could make sure Anders sounded at least somewhat competent. And it got me into Call The Midwife finally, which has been really fun!! (even if it has already made me cry twice). It's the longest thing I've written in years and I am so proud of myself for finishing it !!!!!

A Breath of Relief by @wildxtreasures - A collection of moments in DAO between Alistair and Avenia Cousland. I adore Avenia and her blossoming relationship with Alistair is written so beautifully!!

Heart-Shaped Puzzle by @ratfinking - A really cute, fluffy little Bellara/Rook one-shot!! Bellara is written so well, her speech patterns and mannerisms are absolutely spot-on!! (also it's just!!! really cute!!!!)

Merry Solstice (please don't call) by @lottiesnotebook and @adainesjacket - A modern justhanders AU that tackles addiction and mental health so thoughtfully and respectfully. (They also put little facts about holiday traditions in the notes which is really fun??? I feel like I'm learning, whilst also chanting kiss kiss kiss to the three leads sdfgh)

writing goals for 2025: I want to finally finish and start posting my big multi-chapter Shaynor fic!! Also I think I want to write something more explicit than whatever tf Coralie & Anders had going on in GAWI, and then find the courage to actually share it <3

Summer Podfic Stats!

Back in January, I said I wanted to do this monthly but then I instantly got too caught up in life. However, this summer was my most productive season yet so I thought I'd do a little stats round up for the season ~

January-August Quick Stats:

Summer Round Up!

JUNE: I waffled on including June in my "summer roundup" but technically my summer starts mid-June. It just so happens that right after work ended, we moved. And it took a minute for my podfic space to be set up. So, in June, I made 1 hour & 41 minutes of podfic. It was quite literally just Chapter 47 of the Sansukh multivoice project. I posted more in June but it was all recorded/edited in May.

JULY: July brought 7 hours, 31 minutes, and 53 seconds of podfic. Much of this was not posted until August when Summer Podfic Swap revealed but it was all recorded in July! In July, my most recorded for event was Summer Podfic Swap with 11 podfics. My longest podfic was The Jedi Within at 3 hours & 16 minutes. My shortest podfic was Red Bones at 6 minutes & 37 seconds.

AUGUST: In a weird coincidence, I made 7 hours, 32 minutes, and 38 seconds of podfic in August. (I've never had two months in a row be almost the exact same.) My most recorded for event was again Summer Podfic Swap with 19 podfics recorded for it this month (I used one podfic I'd recorded another month for the exchange). I also began recording for CCPA this month and did one Pod Together project. My longest podfic in August was Aliit Ori'shya Taldin (Family is More Than Blood) at 37 minutes & 28 seconds. My shortest podfic was Race at 1 minute & 11 seconds.

EVENTS: - 31 podfics posted for Summer Podfic Swap 2024, plus one I provided the voice for as well! - 10 podfics made "just because" - 3 podfics recorded so far for the Chromatic Characters Podfic Anthology V (the link is to the information post, reveals are at the end of September!) - 1 Pod Together Project with Wander & Flowerparrish [text | podfic] - 1 podfic for Fandom Trumps Hate posted (Lights Up! for hoebiwan)

SUMMER SWAP BREAKDOWN:

For my main giftee, I made 14 podfics that totaled up to 4 hours & 12 minutes of podfic. Some of these treats were also treated to others! I made 12 podfics as treats for Flowerparrish. Again, many of these were also treated to others. These treats totaled up to 2 hours & 7 minutes of podfic. In total, there was 7 hours & 16 minutes of podfic that I posted for the event. I recorded 51,787 words! The top fandoms I recorded for the exchange were DC(+ crossovers) at 15 & Star Wars(+ crossovers) at 12. This includes the three SWxDC I recorded (so it would be 12 DC and 9 SW if not)! I did 5 DPxDC podfics, despite how recently I got into it again. The other fandoms included were Mass Effect (2), Stranger Things (2), & The Locked Tomb (1). Crossing over with DC, I had one Tomb Raiders and one Leverage.

WRITING: I actually wrote this summer! I wrote 3 works that can be read now and have more that will reveal for later events! All writing was for DPxDC x Stop trying to make the Olympic Village Tinder Trend happen, Dick! (Jay/Roy, Batfam dynamics, side DP characters) x gold medals and golducks (POV Damian, Jazz Fenton is an Olympic fencer & his hero, Pokemon Go shenanigans) x falling in the dead of night (eyes so green) (Danny/Jason soulmate AU)

fun to see everything all laid out like this. also hilarious that i have almost as many current WIPs as i have published fics this year. OOPS. i can't promise i won't start another 20 next year either (though i would certainly not turn down the inspiration). thank you to anyone who read/kudos'd/commented on anything i've written this year. writing has led me to meet so many amazing people here and i am so grateful for all of it and all of you!
