Snippet Sunday

Here is my contribution, a snippet from 'Part of his plan' Part 2.

Astarion lowered Tav onto the bedroll, one hand behind her head, the other on her hip. Slowly, taking his time to savour the softness of her skin, he trailed his fingers up. The fabric of her shirt bunched as his hand traced the contours of her body and settled just below her breast.

“Are you sure?” He felt warm breath against his lips as they broke apart.

Instead of replying, Astarion put his mouth on Tav’s neck, fangs grazing sensitive flesh, her heartbeat strong in his ears.

He would tell her everything. And he would tell her soon. Because the thought of him being in any way like that vile male who dared to use her and scar her, to put that dejected look on her face, was something that Astarion could not bear.

His movements grew more frantic as he removed the last of the barriers between their bodies, wanting, needing to do enough that she would stay.

Because whilst he didn’t want to examine his feelings for Tav too much, not daring to hope for anything, he was terrified of what the consequences of his deception would be.

“Hey, the store was out of raspberry sherbet, so I got orange in-…Fucking hell! Go to the bedroom!”

Gale was bent over a barstool with his joggers around his ankles while Astarion stood behind him, a hand fisted into the author’s hair and hips snapping forward.

“What the fuck, Jen!”

Astarion pulled out of Gale and scrambled for his clothing. Gale hurriedly reached down and yanked up his sweatpants.

Astarion hid his naked behind with crumbled up pajama pants while his crotch was obscured by a black pair of boxer briefs.

“You said the door was unlocked!” Jen shouted, eyes screwed shut.

“Unlocked! Not open for you to barge in! A light knock would have been plenty of warning!” Astarion scurried off behind Gale towards the master bedroom.

thanks for the tag, @vividiana! my parents divorced when i was very young, so i had two very different flavors of music exposure growing up. 😅 my mom and stepdad primarily listened to country (90's country, to be specific) and while i wouldn't say it has much of an impact on who i am as an adult, i definitely have a soft spot for a lot of those old songs even though i generally don't like country as a genre anymore. my dad listened/still listens to almost exclusively 70's and 80's classic rock, which i still adore and vibe with all the time. i think almost everyone has been tagged with this one, so if you see this, tag, your turn!

Hi! It's almost 2 am for me, so it's Sunday enough! Considering your post yesterday a tag, @khywren 🫶 (and my, what a lovely, sad, incredible crumb that was)

I have been working all day, and I'm pleased to say that the first draft of Chapter 17 is complete. Phew. 10.6k. That's the longest any chapter has been so far, but I figure after the last chapter and the hiatus, you all deserve a lengthy one. Now, I'm not sure it'll be the most enjoyable ride, but it'll be a ride nonetheless!

Dregs of consciousness stir her pain-addled mind- light seeping through spidering blood vessels. Her ears ring until a voice, once sweet, pierces through the haze and slowly drags her back into glaring wakefulness. “Honestly, a goddamn liability is what she is. Always having to jump in at the knick of time and save her- she’s lucky we all made it out of that alive.” “Oh, like you can talk? Who just had to use the rest of her magic to heal you back up? Me,” “Least I didn’t lie there through the entire battle, napping away in the afternoon sun while poor Wyll shielded her from attack.” “Don’t pretend like you suddenly care about my well-being just to make a point, Astarion,” “Oh, but you admit there is a point! We should have left her back in camp for all the good she’s done today. A pack mule would have accomplished the same, and talked just as much.” “You are out of line-” The pounding in Ofelia’s head rushes in to cut off her hearing as she finally remembers what happened, flying to her feet with her hands out in front of her. Her eyes are watering and leaking at the corners, blood in her mouth and coating all of her in a heavy, sticky fluid that coagulates beneath the heat of the sun. It takes a second for her surroundings to come back into focus, all of them blinking at her in surprise. She gets one ragged breath in before the world tilts and she’s rushing to the side of the path that overlooks a ravine to spill the contents of her stomach off the side.

I ended up splitting this chapter in half because a) it was almost 20k and I did not want to edit 20k and b) I have been a little stuck on the last half of this chapter but had the first half basically complete and just...sitting there. I don't remember if Amanita Szarr's fate was revealed, past discarding her entire identity and deciding to chronicle vampire lore and her own lineage in particular, but considering her whole thing is being 'incognito' and she lived hidden in the attic and her general theme is that she devoted her build to stealth, I wonder if she's still in the house and we just never notice her. I wonder if Victoria ever spotted the other girl (who looked) her age in the house. (... I have a sudden urge to write a horror story from Victoria's perspective)

I wonder if she's still there if Astarion ascends, chronicling his turn as 'family head.'
