Reliability Survey from Britain’s leading new car buying platform and consumer champion. Feedback from more than 16,000 car owners was analysed to find the country’s most dependable 178 models and 30 brands, from nearly new cars to those aged up to five years old.  This year, a record six models achieved a score of 100%: the current versions of the Audi TT, Mazda CX-3, Mini Convertible and Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross, and the previous-generation Dacia Sandero and Honda HR-V.  At brand level, Lexus and Dacia models were hailed as the most dependable for new and used buyers, while Fiat and Land Rover achieved the lowest scores.   Lexus gained an overall rating of 98.7% and none of its vehicles scored lower than 98.4%. Budget brand Dacia also impressed with a 97.3% overall rating, demonstrating that you don’t have to break the bank to buy a dependable model. In contrast, Fiat had the least reliable cars, gaining an 82.0% rating from owners, while Land Rover and Ford were second and third worst for reliability. Hybrids were rated as the most durable type of car, with an average class reliability score of 96.9%. The best performing hybrid was the Lexus NX (2014 – present), which managed a 99.8% score, while hybrid variants of the BMW X5 (2018 – present) were rated least reliable, with 89.7%. Luxury SUVs performed the worst in the study, achieving an average class rating of 88.8%, although the Porsche Macan (2014 – present) bucked the trend, managing a creditable 97.9%. The Land Rover Discovery (2017 – present) received the lowest score in this class with a 72.1% result. Owners were asked whether their car had gone wrong in the past 12 months, how long repairs took and how much they cost, with the overall score expressed as a percentage.  Of the 16,328 drivers surveyed, 20% had experienced a fault with their car in the past year, with 85% of faults repaired free of charge. For 7% of drivers, the repairs cost between £101 and £500, while 2% had to pay more than £1500 to get their car back on the road. The awards programme recognises the best purchasing propositions in the respective categories of the new vehicle market.
“Vehicle purchases are amongst the biggest that consumers are likely to make in their lifetime,” said Ghana Msibi, executive head of sales and marketing at WesBank.
“Initiatives such as this offer credible opinions on the types of cars and features available in the market, and in so doing help consumers make informed decisions when choosing a new or used vehicle,” he said.
The 13 eventual category winners will be selected from the list of 65 vehicles, which includes model derivatives from 24 brands represented in the South African market.
All vehicles available on the South African market on September 1, 2019, were eligible, not only new products that were launched during the past 12 months.
Compared with the 2018/19 Cars Awards, the executive sedan category has been replaced with one that caters for premium-positioned crossovers.
The former Hot Hatch category (now named Fun Hatch) encompasses more affordable contenders and the price caps for the Premium SUV and Performance Car segments have been raised, it said.
“It is important to note that we analyse market changes proactively and adapt the categories to be better aligned with the South African consumer,” said Cars.co.za consumer experience manager Hannes Oosthuizen.
“With no new contenders in the Executive Sedan category, as well as very poor sales in that segment, we saw it fit to create a new category (to reflect growth and interest in upmarket crossovers) instead.
“Meanwhile there have been no new launches in the traditional hot hatch category, but there has been activity at a lower price point, so we’ve created a new category called Fun Hatch.”
And given the rapidly rising prices of cars for sale in Johannesburg, Oosthuisen said that sticking to a R1-million barrier for Premium SUV and Performance Car categories is no longer practical.
Volkswagen lead the charge in 2019/2020 again.
Even though 24 brands’ vehicles feature in the list of 65, five marques have more than three semi-finalists in the running for category honours.
Volkswagen has the most representatives (8), followed by BMW (6) and Audi, which has 5, although the A1 Sportback 40TFSI S Line is notably a semi-finalist in two separate categories.
Ford (5) and Toyota (4) round out the major manufacturers.

O Ford EcoSport é um SUV de grande importância para a marca americana fora do Brasil. Na Europa, o SUV subcompacto é a porta de entrada do segmento dentro do portfólio local, que ainda inclui Puma, Kuga, Edge, entre outros.
Para o dia 6 de novembro, a Ford Europa promete o lançamento de mais uma versão do EcoSport, denominada Active, seguindo assim os passos do EcoSport Storm no Brasil, que tem uma pegada mais off road.
Contudo, a proposta do EcoSport na Europa pode ser mais aventureira que exatamente focada no fora de estrada, já que a gama Active – que inclui Fiesta, Focus e até a Transit – explora mais o visual que necessariamente a aplicação no 4×4.
Ainda assim, a tração 4WD deve estar disponível para este EcoSport Active, que assim apimentará a gama de versões do modelo, fabricado em Craiova, Romênia.

Ford to Abandon Sedan Production in Favor of Trucks and SUVs
Focus, Fiesta, and Fusion: by the year 2020, these and all current Ford sedans will no longer be on the market. The decision to stop production of sedans is due to declining sales, as seen in Ford’s latest earnings report.
The announcement follows low earnings for Ford’s sedans in comparison to Ford’s more successful line of trucks and SUVs. Although sedans other than Ford’s models have also taken a hit in the sales department, comparable vehicles like Toyota Camry and Honda Civic hold strong with steadily increasing sales. Essentially, foreign auto makers are dominating the sedan market over U.S. models.
Because of Ford’s century-old standing as the world’s first automobile maker, it’s understandable that a drastic change like this would come about. As millennials shift gears in the economy, the surviving auto-maker is attempting to move with the times and focus on its better-selling and more profitable line of trucks and SUVs.
U.S. sales for trucks and SUVs have increased in recent years, largely attributed to the fact that gas prices are fairly low when compared to its price point 10 years ago. The average price of gas in the summer of 2008 was $4.10. As summer 2018 approaches, the national average is a significant 25% less per gallon. This (coupled with the fact that gas prices haven’t increased as high as they were in 2008) is leading many Americans to purchase larger SUVs and trucks, without considering economic factors such as gas costs.
So what else is new with the announcement of sedans being eliminated from Ford’s vehicle market? Ford will continue making new-year models of its sporty and classic Ford Mustang. Alongside the only car to be kept in the vehicle sweep will be the added Focus Active, a new crossover vehicle expecting release in 2019. Ford is also working on adding new SUV and truck models with hybrid and electric features that will become available around the time same time its sedans will be phased out.
By removing most of its cars, Ford will essentially be removing its declining numbers and figures, something to be desired after a less-than-favorable earnings report. Ford hopes newer reports sans sedans will make for a “winning portfolio,” especially as it relates to its North American market.

COMPETITION TERMS AND CONDITIONS

By entering the Competition, you agree to accept the Terms and you represent to satisfy all of the eligibility requirements of entering into the Competition herein.
These terms and conditions are the competition rules (“Terms”) and apply to the competition ‘WIN A WRC CO-DRIVE’ (“Competition”), which is organised by WRC Promoter GmbH, whose registered office is at Liebherrstrasse 22 in 80538 Munich, Germany (“Promoter“).
1. Rules and Prize of and Participation in the Competition
(a)     The Competition starts on January 17th, 2020 at 12:00am (CET) and ends on February 17th, 2020 at 17:00pm (CET) (“Entry Period”). Entries thereafter will not be permitted to the Competition.
(b)     The Competition is open to any customer of Promoter that (1) has purchased or has an active ‘WRC+ All Live’ subscription during the Entry Period (order must be confirmed by Promoter within Entry Period)
(c)     After the end of the Entry Period 1 (one) winner will be drawn at random from all correct entries received during the Entry Period.
(d)     The winner will be notified via e-mail to his / her WRC+ All Live registered e-mail address until February 28th, 2020. If the winner cannot be contacted within 5 (five) days of notification and/or is unable to comply with these Terms, the Promoter reserves the right to offer the prize to the next eligible entrant drawn at random.
(e)     The winner will receive the following prize:
1 (one) co-drive in an M-Sport Ford Fiesta WRC rally car. The co-drive will take place at the Rally de Portugal (“Rally”) at a time chosen solely by the Promoter between May 21st, 2020 and May 24th, 2020; Organisation of travel and coverage of travel expenses for two persons to the Rally, X nights accommodation on double occupancy basis, transfers (i.e. from and to the accommodation in Portugal, from and to the Rally-site); the exact means of travel (e.g. air, train, bus, etc.) and accommodation (e.g. bed & breakfast, hotel, apartment, etc.) shall be subject to availability, the winner’s place of residence and Promoter’s decision. In the event of travel by airplane, only hand luggage shall be permitted. For the avoidance of doubt, organisation and coverage of travel expenses from and to the meeting point (e.g. airport, bus station, train station) from the winner’s and its companion’s place of residence it not covered in the prize and entrant confirms such expenses are at entrant’s and its companion’s own expense; Entry passes for the winner and its companion to the Rally from May 21st, 2020 to May 24th, 2020. Companion must be over the age of 18 at the beginning of travel; entrant and its companion are fully responsible for providing all needed information, data and documents requested by Promotor in order to organise the travel for the companion. For the avoidance of doubt, only the winner will take part in the co-drive. (f)      It is the entrant’s and its companion’s sole responsibility to adhere to the deadlines and schedules communicated to the entrant by the Promoter and the Promoter does not accept any responsibility as a result of such breach by the winner and/or its companion. Presumably, arrival to the Rally will be May 20th, 2020 and departure from the Rally will be May 24th, 2020. Notwithstanding anything herein, entrant has no entitlement for a specific date of travel.
(g)     The prize excludes all other costs and arrangements not expressly stated herein. Taxes, insurances and additional charges and expenses incurred for goods, services, attractions, facilities, upgrades, activities and events not expressly included in the prize are payable solely by the entrant and/or its companion. The Promoter will not be held liable where such charges and/or expenses are incurred, and no refund or reimbursement will be made. The Promoter will accept no responsibility where the entrant and/or its companion are unable to pay in full, any such charges and/or expenses as incurred.
(h)     The entrant undertakes and warrants that the entrant and its companion will fully abide and comply with any security and other rules and regulations at the Rally.
(i)      The prize is stated as above. No cash equivalent or alternative prize will be given at the request of the winner and the prize cannot be sold and is non-transferable and non-exchangeable; this also applies to entrants that do not fulfil the mentioned conditions according to paragraph 2. Promoter reserves the right to change the prize or any part of the prize (to an alternative prize or part of the prize of equal or greater value) for any reason in its sole discretion including without limitation due to circumstances beyond its control or if the prize or any part of the prize becomes unavailable. If for any reason the winner chooses not to take up the prize or any part of the prize, the Promoter reserves the right to retain or dispose of the prize at its own discretion.
(j)      In consideration of the prize, the entrant and its companion may be required to take part in promotional activities, including without limitation of giving interviews, filming during the co-drive, etc. related to the Competition and the entrant and its companion shall participate in such activities on Promoter's request. The entrant consents and ensures that its companion consents to the use by the Promoter, its related companies and their partners, licensees and assignees, before, during and after the Entry Period for an unlimited time, of the entrant's and its companion’s voice, image, photograph and name for publicity purposes (in any medium, including still photographs and films, and on the internet, including any websites hosted by the Promoter, its related companies and their partners, licensees and assignees and in advertising, marketing or promotional material without additional compensation or prior notice and, in entering the Competition, entrant consents to the same.
2. Qualifying Entrant
(a)     Entrant must be a natural person and aged 18 or over at the time of participation in the Competition. Minors are excluded from participation. All Competition entry data must be made directly by the person entering the Competition.
(b)     Entrant can only enter once. Multiple entries are excluded.
(c)     Entrant must be in good health condition to withstand the physical, mental, weight and other burden that arise during the co-drive. Upon Promoter’s request, entrant shall provide medical certificates to attest such good health condition at entrant’s sole cost.
(d)     Additional eligibility requirements may apply to the Competition depending on an entrant’s or its companion’s place of residence. Such requirements as well as the evaluation of eligibility of entry in the Competition are at the Promoter’s sole discretion. The Promoter shall act reasonably and request only such additional eligibility requirements, which are necessary for the entrant to take on the prize, e.g. valid passport to travel to the Rally, entrance visa to Portugal.
(e)     By entering the Competition, entrant hereby warrants that all information and the entry data submitted are true, current and complete. The Promoter reserves the right to verify the eligibility of all entrants and to require proof of age, identity and/or other provided details at any time at its discretion.
(f)      Directors, officers and employees of the Promoter, its parent(s), and/or any of their respective affiliated companies, subsidiaries, agents and any company involved in the development, production or promotion of the Competition, and all of their family members and those living in the same household of such persons (whether legally related or not) are not eligible to enter the Competition.
(g)     If, in Promoter’s sole discretion, an entrant does not fulfil the appropriate health condition as per paragraph 2 (c) or the additional eligibility requirements as per paragraph 2 (d) of these Terms, this may result in entrant’s disqualification or, if Promoter learns from entrant’s actual health condition only on site at the rally, the exclusion from the co-drive.
(h)     The Promoter reserves the right to disqualify an entrant if it has reasonable grounds to believe the entrant has breached any of the Terms or provided invalid or incorrect entry data. Disqualification may result in Promotor’s claim for damages.
(i)      If an entrant is disqualified from the Competition, the Promoter, in its sole discretion, may decide whether a replacement shall be selected.
(j)      There is no entitlement to enter the Competition.
3. Data Privacy
Any personal information provided by the entrant in the course of this Competition will be used in accordance with the Promoter’s Privacy Policy wrc.com/en/footer/information/privacy-policy/
4. Liability
(a)     The Promoter is not liable in case the entrant is not legally allowed to take part in the Competition due to national or local laws and the Promoter is not responsible in case the entrant is not physically or mentally able to perform any or all of the described tasks in the Competition; there is no legal right to participate in this Competition whatsoever.
(b)     The Promoter is only liable for damages arising as result of (i) an injury to life and/or health; (ii) intent; (iii) gross negligence according to the German consumer protection law; and/or (iv) Promoter being in breach of the requirements of statutory regulations on product liability (if applicable).
(c)     Subject to 4 (b), the Promoter does not accept responsibility for any fault, malfunction, damage, loss or disappointment suffered by the entrant howsoever arising from participating in the Competition or from accepting the prize, whether due to any error, omission or other cause by the Promoter or their employees, agents or others.
(d)     In no event shall Promoter be responsible or liable for any failure or delay in the performance of its obligations under these Terms arising out of or caused by, direct or indirect, forces beyond its reasonable control, including but not limited to strikes, work stoppages, accidents, or acts of God, and interruptions, loss or malfunctions of utilities, communications or computer (software or hardware) services, inevitable accidents, supervening legislation or any other circumstances outside Promoter’s control.
5. Miscellaneous
(a)     The Promoter reserves the right to suspend and/or cancel the Competition at any time without giving reasons and without prior notice in particular but not limited to the proper execution of the Competition cannot be ensured due to manipulations, errors or other technical issues or legal reasons.
(b)     If any of the provisions of these Terms are or become invalid, illegal or unenforceable, the validity, legality and enforceability of the remaining provisions shall not in any way be affected or impaired and shall remain in full force and effect.

MELBOURNE, Australia, September 10, 2019 – The new-generation Ford Focus ST, developed under the leadership of Ford Performance, brings Australian enthusiasts the most advanced, capable Focus ST to date with more power, technology and choice. Based on the new-generation Focus’ C2 platform, the Focus ST brings an automatic variant for the first time, as well as the traditional enthusiast-focussed six-speed manual with rev-matching. In addition to expanded Selectable Drive Modes, there’s new technology including Continuously Controlled Damping (CCD), an electronic Limited Slip Differential (eLSD), and 2.3L turbocharged engine. “The Focus ST joins the Fiesta ST for 2020, offering a full suite of Ford Performance hot hatches for local enthusiasts,” said Kay Hart, President and CEO, Ford Australia and New Zealand. “Both bring new technology, with the Focus ST building on the innovation and tech leadership of the new-generation Focus, delivering a highly capable and livable performance hatch.” The Focus ST will be fully-imported from Germany, and will be on sale in Australia in 2020 with an MLP of $44,6901 for the 6-speed manual. A 7-speed paddleshift automatic is offered as a no-cost-option, with the ST taking the advanced C2 platform of the new Focus, introduced to Australia in late 2018, as a foundation to offer greater cabin space, cargo capacity as well as dynamic capability based upon a platform that delivers a 20 percent increase in torsional rigidity over the outgoing model. “Intelligent technologies like eLSD and CCD make our new-generation Focus ST the most ‘Jekyll and Hyde’ yet, able to switch from refined tourer to focussed performance car at the push of a button,” said Leo Roeks, Ford Performance director, Europe. “We’ve incorporated learnings from programs including our Ford GT supercar and the acclaimed Focus RS to develop a mid-size performance car with a degree of flexibility that’s unique in its segment.”
Focus ST: Looks that skill The Focus ST’s features both inside and out are designed to showcase its performance intent from any angle, building on the new-generation Focus’ core elements to deliver a Ford Performance optimised package. Immediately apparent, an aggressive stance is achieved with 19-inch machined alloy wheels, fitted with 235/35 Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres, as standard, with suspension that lowers ride height by 10mm over the standard Focus model. The Focus ST’s larger front and rear brake components are clearly visible, standing out with red brake calipers that clamp larger 330mm front and 302mm rear ventilated discs. A new electronic brake booster improves brake pedal feel, while braking performance was verified using the same demanding test procedures as the Ford GT supercar, and saw almost four-times the fade resistance performance of the previous generation Focus ST in testing. The Focus ST also boasts a honeycomb front grille, with LED headlight and taillights featuring LED Daytime Running Lights and for a signature look, with unique front and rear bumpers incorporating LED fog lamps and sculpted side-skirts producing a muscular look. An integrated spoiler caps off the major exterior changes on the ST’s hatch. Details include dual chrome exhaust tips, rear privacy glass as well as heated power-folding exterior mirrors with puddle lamps. There’s also unique ST badging in the front grille and rear hatch, exterior colour options chosen to emphasise the Focus ST’s dynamic styling including exclusive Ford Performance Blue and Orange Fury, alongside Frozen White, Magnetic (grey), Race Red, Ruby Red and Shadow Black2. The attention to detail continues inside the Focus ST. The heated Recaro sports seats are trimmed in leather and suede, with larger bolsters for improved lateral support during cornering, and feature ST logos, with lumbar support on the driver’s seat. Interior space is improved for the new-generation Focus ST, thanks to a 53mm increase in wheelbase, with greater occupant space in both front and second rows for greater comfort and convenience. Ford Performance instrumentation is standard, as are aluminium pedals that are matched to a chrome gear-lever for the six-speed manual, while the automatic Focus ST takes advantage of the new-generation e-shifter, which liberates space while enabling a cleaner console look. An electronic park brake also enhances space and interior sophistication for either transmission choice, while a flat-bottom heated ST steering wheel, wrapped in perforated leather, houses audio and SYNC 3 controls while delivering a premium feel and engagement for the driver.
Focus ST: Connectivity, technology and safety SYNC 33 as standard is another feature that brings livability and technology to the Focus ST. This includes a high-definition 8.0-inch touchscreen display, which includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone capability4. Functions, including Siri, can be accessed via the steering-wheel mounted voice activation controls, with capabilities including voice-activated text messaging. In addition, the Focus ST’s standard built-in sat-nav can also be accessed by voice-command, with the system specially engineered to comprehend Australian accents. The Focus ST also features wireless smartphone charging as standard, with technology including keyless entry and push-button engine start, ambient LED lighting and dual-zone climate control. A five-star ANCAP rating was awarded to the new-generation Focus line-up in 2019, with the standardisation of the Driver Assist Technology (DAT)5 praised by ANCAP CEO James Goodwin. Focus ST: Focus RS-developed powertrain The new all-aluminium 2.3-litre, turbocharged powertrain is the most potent ever offered in a Focus ST. Using advanced turbocharging technology to deliver 206kW6of power at 5,500 rpm – an increase of 22kW over the outgoing Focus ST – and a significant jump in torque, from 360Nm previously to 420Nmv , it is also the most free-revving Focus ST engine ever. Engine response is enhanced using a low-inertia twin-scroll turbocharger, which scavenges exhaust gas energy more effectively using separated channels to minimise interference between gas pulses. An electronically actuated waste-gate allows closer control of boost pressures for optimised engine performance. In addition, a unique exhaust system that reduces back pressure, bespoke air intake system and optimised intercooler further improve breathing. Innovative anti-lag technology developed for the Ford GT supercar and F-150 Raptor pick-up is introduced to the Focus ST, for immediate power delivery in Sport and Track Drive Modes. Anti‑lag keeps the throttle open when the driver lifts off the accelerator pedal, alleviating the reversal of air flow from the turbocharger to maintain compressor wheel speed and enabling boost pressure to build faster on demand. The Focus ST’s six-speed manual transmission enables more urgent gear-changes and provides a sportier feel with a shift-throw reduction of 7 percent compared with the standard all-new Focus. Ford’s rev-matching technology that debuted on the new Ford Mustang is standard for manual models. Delivering smoother, faster downshifts, the technology is accompanied by a shift indicator light, and uses the engine’s electronic control system to briefly ‘blip’ the throttle as the driver engages a lower gear – matching the engine rotation speed to that of the gear that is being selected. Rev-matching enables less-experienced performance drivers to benefit from the seamless, momentum-maintaining gearshifts delivered by the heel-and-toe driving technique. A new seven-speed paddleshift automatic will complement the rewarding, engaging and sporty 2.3-litre engine’s driving experience. Adaptive Shift Scheduling assesses individual driving styles to optimise gearshift timings, and is enhanced to offer more flexibility and the ability to differentiate between road and track use. Drivers can also select gears manually using steering wheel-mounted paddle-shifters.
Selectable Drive Modes: Focus ST’s smart chassis Building on accomplished Ford Focus’ driving dynamics, the new-generation Focus ST was developed to blend B-road fun-to-drive, legitimate track-day performance, and everyday usability. “Our target was to deliver an new-generation Focus ST that is as effortless to drive day-to-day as the rest of the Focus line-up,” Roeks said. “The model’s comprehensive range of technologies means customers gain exhilarating ST performance without sacrifice.” This flexibility and capability is accessed via Selectable Drive Modes that optimise the Focus ST’s capabilities for road (or track) conditions ahead. Slippery, Normal, Sport and Track Drive Modes adjust the eLSD, CCD, EPAS, throttle mapping, automatic transmission shift scheduling, electronic stability control (ESC), electronic sound enhancement (ESE) and climate settings to suit the driving scenario. A dedicated “Sport” button on the flat-bottomed steering wheel gives direct access to Sport mode, and an additional “Mode” button allows drivers to quickly scroll through the Drive Mode options. “Selecting Track mode instantly introduces higher steering efforts for more feedback; tunes the throttle to be more aggressive; instructs the eLSD to deliver maximum traction; and gives drivers more leeway within the ESC system,” Roeks said. “Drivers can have full confidence in the Focus ST’s ability to deliver on the track.” The Focus ST’s chassis brings a unique fully-independent rear suspension configuration that helps optimise the vehicle’s responses to driver inputs without sacrificing comfort. The agile and energetic character of the standard Focus is retained using the original spring specifications, with damping stiffness increased up to 20 percent at the front and 13 percent at the rear, and ride height reduced by 10mm, to improve road-holding and response in performance driving scenarios. The chassis upgrades also include Ford’s sophisticated Continuously Controlled Damper (CCD) technology for the first time on a Focus in Australia. The system monitors suspension, body, steering and braking inputs every 2 milliseconds to adjust damping responses for outstanding ride quality and driving dynamics. Also improving capability is the eLSD. The Borg Warner-developed technology is faster to deploy and offers greater precision than a traditional mechanical LSD. The system can pre-emptively adjust torque distribution using inputs from powertrain and vehicle dynamics sensors, rather than responding to wheelspin as it occurs, and can apply differential locking gradually for fine-tuning performance. The all-new Focus ST also takes Ford’s fastest-steering-response crown from the acclaimed Fiesta ST. The electric power-assisted steering (EPAS) system is 15 percent faster than the standard Focus, requiring just two turns lock-to-lock. Class-leading connected feel is supported by unique steering knuckle geometry, with a rod attachment point 9mm further forward and 6.5mm higher than the standard Focus for sharper responses. New Steering Torque Disturbance Reduction software for EPAS also helps reduce torque steer, making it even easier to deploy with precision the Focus ST’s power and torque. The new-generation Focus ST will arrive in Australian showrooms in Q1, 2020.
