"All right, listen up, Ladies and Gentlemen, our fugitive has been on the run for ninety minutes. Average foot speed over uneven ground, barring injuries, is 4 miles per hour. That gives us a radius of six miles. What I want from each and every one of you is a hard-target search of every gas station, residence, warehouse, farmhouse, henhouse, outhouse and doghouse in that area. Checkpoints go up at fifteen miles. Your fugitive's name is Dr. Richard Kimble. Go get him."

Thought of a fun thought experiment that will either age brilliantly or horribly quite soon.
So, we all know that Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe is coming soon, right? Like REALLY soon. Less than 2 months kind of soon.
We still don't really know much about what this remake will change or add except for:
1 new copy ability
new multiplayer mini-games
looming Magolor Castle (that is left unexplained for now) in promotional artwork
I don't mention the visuals because it's the most obvious and expected change coming from the remake of 2011 Wii game.
So I want to do something fun. I'll list my predictions on what this remake will change and/or add. I will be splitting them into predictions that are likely and predictions that are more on pipe dreams territory. I'll present arguments and/or evidence towards each point as we go. Let's begin!
Things that I think are likely to happen:
Playable Magolor. I mean, come on now. Not only he's now included on the cover, which he wasn't in the original game, he's also one of the most popular characters in the franchise now. Like he's actually probably the most popular addition to the series since Meta Knight and Meta Knight was introduced in 1993. I'm not entirely sure yet how this would work (it partially goes into pipe-dream predictions territory), but I'm certain it will somehow happen. It helps that modern Kirby games on Switch had a tendency to have a late-game unlockable that is super OP and is related to game's storyline in some way. Star Allies had playable Mage Sisters, Forgotten Land had Masked Hammer and Morpho Sword as milestones for beating main story mode and post-game campaign. Magolor only makes the most sense to follow suit.
Dedede, Meta Knight and Bandana Dee will receive their updated movesets from Star Allies. While I wasn't overall a huge fan of how Star Allies treated those three characters, being way less polished than later DLC Dream Friends, one things they got right is by finally giving them more original moves into their arsenal. They basically started out as hammer clone, wing and sword clone hybrid and spear clone respectively, which, I assume, was byproduct of RTDL's co-op being a late addition in the development. Giving each of them more unique moves in SA was a great move and them to carry over into RTDL DX would be excellent choice as well. Not only they would stand out more against contemporary copy abilities they were based on, it presents more fun gameplay possibilities (I'm sleeping and dreaming how much I will spam super dedede jump in various boss fights like grand doomer). But the best of all, we have an evidence of this potentially happening, ladies and gentlemen! In trailer footage we got we can decipher Meta Knight doing Galactic Counter that was introduced in Star Allies.
If this is anything to go by, all new additions are set in stone and it's just matter of seeing more of it in the final game.
The boldest prediction yet, mainly because it's not based on anything except for my gut feeling. But Magolor Castle will be the hub-world for the post-game in RTDL DX. It makes the most logical sense as it would be a good way to differentiate post-game from the main story where the hub world was Lor Starcutter. What we will do there? Who knows, there's tons of possibilities. It will most likely house mini-games but I doubt they would design such elaborate looking location just to be a place where you could pick a mini-game. There would certainly be more stuff to do, but what would it be?.. Time will tell!
Things that I want to happen but aren't necessarily likely:
King Dedede, Meta Knight and Bandana Dee becoming playable in single-player (outside of arenas). There are many ways how it could work, but the idea I'm betting on (and therefore hoping for) the most is introducing Guest Star-like mode where each of them get an abridged and changed take on the main campaign's levels, taking advantage of their individual movesets in the process. I feel like them being locked behind co-op in the original game was some of the biggest shortcomings of RTDL so I genuinely hope remake will fix that.
Entirely new post-game story. Extra mode that original RTDL had is less than stellar, to say the least. It's basically the same game again with slightly updated bosses and halfed health bar. Lame. If this remake were to go down the route of recent Switch Kirby titles, introducing an extra-mode that actually continues the story of the main game is the way to go! It can go down many ways, but personally I think the most fun (And funniest) plotline for such extra mode would be helping out to build Magolor's theme park (aka Magolor Castle we've been seeing on the cover art), mirroring the story of the main mode, but with lower stakes and reestablishing Magolor's current status-quo on-screen instead of it being left to Miiverse information.
Old Extra mode being remade into a difficulty option. I think both this game and Forgotten Land were developed co-currently so they are bound to share some of the game design philosophies. Getting rid of the old extra mode entirely would probably be too harsh and unfaithful to the original game... But if you were to repurpose it instead, it's a different story entirely. It will become this game's "Wild Mode", I wager.
These are all the main ideas I currently have for what this remake will have in store. I hope I got at least one of those things right. See y'all in 2 or so weeks when they will actually drop a new trailer.

“There is no obvious motive for Jane Russell’s charming churlishness on screen; it was often gratuitous, more than the script called for or than the director, I should think, would allow. It would seem, then, natural. But it wasn’t; according to her book, to her TV talk show appearances and to Arthur Bell, who had lunch with her, she was plain Jane in the best sense, a friendly foul-mouthed pious Christian. I can only theorize that she regarded the picture business as so shitty, as it were – and it arguably was and is – that she felt she should act accordingly.” / Deviant queer film critic Boyd McDonald (1925 - 1993) enthusing about one of his favourite subjects - surly and statuesque actress and singer Jane Russell - in his volume Cruising the Movies: A Sexual Guide to Oldies on TV (1985) / Born on this day: mean, moody and magnificent leading lady of the forties and fifties (and Playtex cross-your-heart bra spokesmodel), Jane Russell (21 June 1921 - 28 February 2011). I particularly treasure Russell’s screen partnerships with film noir tough guy Robert Mitchum, who matched her for tough wry humour and impudence. (They were buddies offscreen: Mitchum called her “an authentic original”). If you only know Russell as Marilyn Monroe’s wisecracking pal in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953), her filmography is studded with gems like His Kind of Woman (1951), Macao (1952) and her magnum opus, The Revolt of Mamie Stover (1956). But I even love her in lesser efforts like Hot Blood (1956) and The Fuzzy Pink Nightgown (1957) (and I’ve yet to see the intriguing-sounding The Las Vegas Story (1952) or Foxfire (1955)). Not that Russell herself was impressed. “I got little artistic satisfaction from my work,” she confessed in her 1985 autobiography. “I was definitely a victim of Hollywood typecasting.” Pictured: portrait of Russell by George Hurrell, 1946.

The prolific historian and biographer Philip Ziegler, who has died of cancer aged 93, was never less than scrupulously fair – but also honest – about the shortcomings of his subjects, who included some of the most prominent men and, occasionally, women of modern British history.
Lord Mountbatten’s personal vanity, deviousness and ambition, Edward VIII’s meanness and superficiality, even Edward Heath’s charmlessness were all remorselessly revealed, even though they amounted to official biographies and are books that have shaped the men’s reputations for posterity.
“The biographer’s first responsibility is to the truth and to the reader. If he is not prepared in the last resort to hurt and offend people for whom he feels nothing except goodwill then he should not be writing a biography,” Ziegler said in 2011.
The foibles of Mountbatten, the last viceroy of India before independence, were such that Ziegler wrote a note on his desk while writing the biography in the mid-1980s stating: “Remember, in spite of everything, he was a great man.” That is not necessarily the view any longer of many British and Indian historians, though it is hard to overlook Mountbatten’s significance to the modern subcontinent and his relatives in the Royal family.
If Ziegler’s patrician, establishment status and urbane charm helped to smooth his path to selection for such monumental biographies, his industry and the punctiliousness of his research meant that they come close to definitive. He said: “Ideally the biographer should know everything about his subject and then discard 99% of his information, keeping only the essential. Of course one can never hope to discover anything approaching everything, but one can find out a great deal.”
Ziegler was born in Ringwood, in the New Forest, to Dora (nee Barnwell) and Louis Ziegler, a retired army major. He was educated at Eton college and then studied law at New College, Oxford, graduating with a first. After national service with the Royal Artillery, he entered the Foreign Office, serving as a diplomat in Laos, Paris and Pretoria.
In 1966, with his wife Sarah (nee Collins), whom he had married in 1960, and two small children, he was posted to Bogotá, Colombia, as head of chancery at the British embassy. It was there the following year that, returning home from an embassy reception, he and his wife found armed robbers rifling the house. Sarah was killed in the melee and he was badly wounded.
The tragedy persuaded him to leave the diplomatic service and take a job with Sarah’s publisher father, William Collins, then the head of one of the largest publishing houses in the country. Ziegler became editorial director in 1972 and editor-in-chief of the company seven years later. He had already published two books, a biography of the Duchess of Dino, mistress of the wily French diplomat Talleyrand, in 1962, and one of the Georgian prime minister Henry Addington (later the reactionary home secretary Viscount Sidmouth) in 1965. A book about the Black Death followed in 1969, though that was to be his only venture into pre-modern history, and one on the battle of Omdurman (1973), as well as biographies of William IV (1971) and the Victorian prime minister Lord Melbourne (1976).
In 1980, Ziegler became a full-time writer, and a regular and eclectic stream of books followed: biographies of the 1920s’ society beauty Lady Diana Cooper (1981), Harold Wilson (1993), the minor poet Osbert Sitwell (1998), the publisher Rupert Hart-Davis (2005) and the actor Laurence Olivier (2013), as well as Heath (2010), Mountbatten (1985) and Edward VIII (1990), and a short biography of George VI (2014). There were also histories of Barings Bank (1988), London during the second world war (1995), the Rhodes Trust in Oxford (2008) and Brooks’s gentlemen’s club (1991). Not forgetting, Elizabeth’s Britain 1926 to 1986 and a book of photographic portraits of the Queen (2010).
All were assiduously researched. Given access to the royal archives, Ziegler ploughed through 25,000 letters of Edward VIII, revealing the shallowness of the king who abdicated and, allegedly to her displeasure, the Queen Mother’s relentless hostility towards him. His verdict that Edward was well meaning and that no monarch could have been more anxious to relieve the sufferings of his subjects though “few can have done less to achieve their aim”, was suitably waspish.
The biography of Mountbatten, for which he was chosen by the Broadlands trustees, custodians of his legacy, was followed by three volumes of the admiral’s diaries. The biography of Heath was also both official and comprehensive, but struggled to find the man’s elusive charm.
Of the Olivier biography, he told an interviewer at the Cheltenham literary festival in 2013: “In the course of my alarmingly long biographical career I have written about an inordinate number of prime ministers, kings and the like and I suddenly decided in old age that I would indulge myself and do myself an actor.” What he found to his alarm that there was very little substance beneath the parts the great actor played.
Following the death of his first wife, Ziegler married Clare Charrington, a social worker and bereavement counsellor, in 1971. She died in 2017. He is survived by the two children of his first marriage, Sophie and Colin, and by the son of his second, Toby.

I grandi marchi: Mtv
Medieval Islam was a religion of remarkable tolerance for its time, allowing Jews and Christians the right to practise their inherited beliefs, and setting an example which was not, unfortunately, copied for many centuries in the West. The surprise, ladies and gentlemen, is the extent to which Islam has been a part of Europe for so long, first in Spain, then in the Balkans, and the extent to which it has contributed so much towards the civilisation which we all too often think of, wrongly, as entirely Western. Islam is part of our past and our present, in all fields of human endeavour. It has helped to create modern Europe. It is part of our own inheritance, not a thing apart.
Speech on Islam and the West to the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies (27 October 1993).

THIS IS Tom...Growing Old?
One of my earliest live concert experiences was unforgettable: at an iconic venue, watching the epitome of cool pour his heart (and sweat) into every note. OK, the fact that my parents took me may not be very cool. Also the fact that it was one of my parent’s artists, not cool. I was 12 years old so I wasn’t going to argue because we were seeing Tom Jones! The year was 1975. The venue was The Circle Star Theater in San Carlos, CA. Just last month (October 2024) 50 years later, I had the pleasure, once again, of seeing SIR Tom Jones perform at the Fox Theater in Oakland, CA. This got me thinking about Tom Jones, his staying power and how special he has been to me throughout my life.
I Heard it In The Womb
Source: via City of Minneapolis Archives / Flickr I didn't have a choice regarding Tom Jones. His music was part of my childhood. My mother was a big fan of his. All the mothers in my neighborhood were fans. In the late 60’s, early 70’s, Tom had the housewife market locked up, All the moms were stay-at-home and listened to the same radio station. There were days when Tom Jones could be heard coming through the open windows up and down the block. Besides digging his music, hearing his voice reminds me of my mother and that’s really great. I remember watching his short-lived TV variety show. “Ladies and Gentlemen….THIS is Tom Jones!” . He was so dynamic and exciting. A Tom Jones performance must be so exciting to see in person. Luckily for me, my parents were music fans. They had a good collection of records and attended live shows every now and then. They had, of course, seen Tom Jones already a few times so when they saw that he was coming back to town, they made plans to see him again.
I’m Going
I am not sure how I ended up going with them. Did they invite me? Did I ask to go? Did I beg to go? Did I bug the hell out of them so they took me? Any of these are possible. Whatever it was, the three of us plus my sister and her boyfriend, hopped into the family Granada and headed down Highway 101 toward San Carlos and the magic that was The Circle Star Theater.
The Circle Star Theater was a one-of-a-kind venue. It opened in 1964 in the sleepy peninsula town of San Carlos. Surprisingly, the venue was backed by big Hollywood types, including Sammy Davis Jr., Debbie Reynolds and others. It was located 25 miles south of San Francisco. The name refers to the stage which was a circle and rotated. Capacity was 3,700 and no seat was further than 50 feet from the stage. In 1971, the stage became rotating. It would take 8 minutes for the stage to make a complete circle. The performers would enter by walking down the “Star Aisle” from the back of the venue to the stage. I once saw Chuck Berry there (another great story). He stood behind the mic and stated, "I guess I have to start playing for this stage to start turning, so here goes!" It was quite an impressive place and, for a time, attracted the biggest stars, including Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., The Jackson 5 and Cheech and Chong. I, personally, attended a good number of shows there until it tragically closed in 1993.
Circle Star-Struck
Needless to say, I was sufficiently blown away by the whole situation at the Circle Star. I was beside myself to see Tom Jones run down that “Star Aisle” and take the stage in all his hairy-chest glory. In 1975, Tom was 35 years old, in fantastic shape. It was Tom’s 10th year in show business.
His vocals were still full-throated baritone. His head of hair had big 70's volume, his attire was a silk shirt, unbuttoned, big crucifix hanging around his neck and black slacks. The pants seemed to have a full salami stuffed in them. I soaked up everything. His performance, his look, his moves, the Circle Star: all left a lasting impression on me.
Call It "TJ Confidence"
A little secret I am revealing here: As a teen, I used to listen to Tom Jones music as I prepared to go to a dance or on a date. I was hoping that some of his swag and coolness would wear off on me. Looking back on it, the ritual was a confidence builder. It worked. Watching Tom Jones helped me figure out how to move on a dance floor. I was never mistaken for a good dancer but I successfully blended into the crowd. Listening to my parent’s “Live in Las Vegas” album and it’s infectious energy always helped me awaken my Joe Cool mojo.
That Voice Stayed
My Tom Jones fandom has continued on until this day. I spent my adolescence making my way through popular music and, definitely, making my own choices. Whether my latest obsession was Huey Lewis and the News or Metallica, I always tried to keep tabs on Sir Tom. He would fall in and out of favor over the years but he continued to work. In the 90’s, however, he had a big resurgence based on the popular TV show “The Fresh Prince of Bel Air” and it's character, Carlton. Tom continued to make music and some songs actually charted. His voice, THAT voice never, ever faltered. This is the true appeal of Tom Jones. Yes, the ladies love his sex appeal and all the guys want to be cool like him but it’s his voice that has stood the test of time.
Sir Tom
Fast forward to today, Tom is now called Sir Tom after being made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 1999, was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 2006 at Buckingham Palace for his services to music. Tom has also had a resurgence due to his judgeship on the UK’s version of the TV show “The Voice”. He has been back in the studio and produced a few serious chart contenders. He has appeared ageless save for the full head of silver hair. His voice has survived the years. Can he still hit those full-throated baritone notes? Most would say he ‘almost’ gets them. Tom Jones’ ‘almost’ is better than most singers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ofQcvPezclk Tom’s “Surrounded By Time” Tour made a stop at the Fox Theater in Oakland this year. I was very happy to attend. Tom is 84 years old. He has, understandably, slowed down. His signature stage movements are mere suggestions now. Both hips have been replaced and he has to sit down a few times over a 90 minute show. His show is a good mix of the big hits and poignant newer songs that are more appropriate for a man of Tom’s age. In fact, the show starts off quietly with a song from his “Surrounded By Time” album called “I’m Growing Old”. Tom sits on a stool and laments about aging, looking old and feeble. What a fake-out that was! He may be growing old but he is not withering away.
He IS Growing Old
Tom Jones is the VOICE and that voice shows no sign of growing old. After that opening number set the tone, Jones spent the rest of the night proving it wrong. He wasn’t moving like he did in 1975 but he sure was hitting all the notes. An amazing 49 years later, I am still amazed and entertained by the same man. Tom and his young, energetic band ripped through the greatest hits, playing them in a stripped down way. There was no orchestra, just a small group of musicians who could recreate the magic. Even on those classics from the 60s. The stripped down versions of “Delilah” and “What’s New Pussy Cat” sounded as fresh as the day they were released. There is still the glimmer of a sex symbol even at his advanced age. Ceremonial panties were thrown on the stage. Ladies of all ages were swooning at an 84 yr old man. For Tom, it’s business as usual. He knows exactly how to act and exactly what to say. Lately Tom has been talking about his relationship with Elvis. The two were apparently good friends during Elvis’ Vegas years. I can only imagine!! Seeing Tom STILL killing it at his age only makes me think of what Elvis would be doing these days. I’d like to think he has grown old gracefully with his voice still intact. Just like Tom Jones has done. Read the full article

UNGA President remarks at the High-level Commemorative Event on the occasion of the International Day of Reflection and Commemoration of the 1995 Genocide in Srebrenica.
His Excellency, Elmedin Konaković, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina,
Excellencies,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I thank the Permanent Mission of Bosnia and Herzegovina for their invitation to this solemn gathering.
In April 1993, the United Nations Security Council declared Srebrenica a safe area.
Yet, in July 1995, this supposed sanctuary became the site of the largest massacre in the territory of the former Yugoslavia.
Over 8,372 lives were lost, thousands were displaced – and entire families and communities were devastated.
Nearly three decades after this horrific chapter of History, survivors and their families continue to draw strength from their pursuit of justice and reconciliation.
Both the International Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia and the International Court of Justice have recognized this massacre as an act of genocide.
The lessons of Srebrenica are clear: intolerance and bigotry – when allowed to flourish – culminate in atrocities beyond comprehension.
We must always remain vigilant and guard against rhetoric that dehumanizes, degrades, and discriminates against a particular group.
Because such rhetoric is always rooted in hate, and – left unchecked – always leads to unspeakable evil.
While it is essential to prosecute the remaining perpetrators of the Srebrenica genocide, we cannot accept any attempt to simply forget or deny the enormity of what transpired.
We simply cannot allow this to happen.
The United Nations General Assembly’s designation of 11 July as the International Day of Reflection and Commemoration of the 1995 Genocide in Srebrenica is therefore a timely act – to not only recognize the victims and their families; but also pay tribute to survivors who have tirelessly fought to keep the memory of Srebrenica alive and ensure that such atrocities never happen again.
Upholding this responsibility is fundamental to the mission of the United Nations.
Genocide denial will neither lead to justice nor peace, and every nation – regardless of its distance to Bosnia-Herzegovina, or its own history – has a responsibility to uphold international court decisions that bring justice to survivors and prevent genocide within its own borders.
Excellencies,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Today, this commemoration is more relevant than ever – as divisive rhetoric and attempts to create divisions run wider, louder, and deeper than ever before, around the world.
It offers a chance for significant societal transformation.
From Europe to the Middle East, this period of global upheaval prompts essential questions about our way of life, our shared future – and how we treat one another.
As we approach the thirtieth anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide in 2025, let us reflect on and learn from this darkest chapter in our history, to help prevent its tragic repetition.
This commitment demands that we acknowledge the profound suffering of survivors and the families of victims.
It requires unwavering opposition to any denial, distortion, or falsification of incontrovertible facts.
And above all, it calls on us to relentlessly pursue justice and truth – for that is the only path to fostering sustainable peace and genuine reconciliation.
Let us use this new International Day to honour those lost, educate [future] generations, unite communities, and combat hate in all its forms – I repeat: in all its forms..
This is essential to ensure that everyone – regardless of race, faith, or nationality – feels safe in their communities.
I leave you with the wise words of Maya Angelou, the famed African American writer:
“History, despite its wrenching pain, cannot be unlived, but if faced with courage, need not be lived again.”
To write a brighter future acknowledging the truth about the Srebrenica genocide is essential — not only as a matter of justice for its victims, but as a cornerstone for lasting peace.
I thank you.
