As they say in the industry, you either know fashion or you don't. And Miss Rarity certainly knows it!
#mlp#rainbow dash#rarity#my little pony#my art#fanart#1920s au#comic#little call out to myself but technically the bolo tie is anachronistic#they probably weren't invented until the 40s but that's kinda contested#but i felt it was important to give rd's suit a small piece of native american fashion identity#compared to the previous intentionally white-euro dresses

An early attempt at photocopying: a Royal typewriter outfitted with a "protographer," a device that made three to seven copies of whatever was typed on it, November 12, 1929.

I'm aware that adding hot water and showers to my fanfics is not very accurate to 1980s, but-
if they can have TRACKERS, WITH VOICE MESSAGES, AND HOLOGRAMS, I think I can let myself give them showers and water heaters.
#and yes i know the lodgers are special but like...#showers and plumbing are not that complicated. they technically have been around since the 1760s#but just didn't get common until the 1920s for a collection of reasons unrelated to invention#i assume glass scientists Victorian London is just a TAD bit more advanced that the real counterpart XD#the glass scientists#glass scientists#just let me have it XD#this and lingerie#because reasons XD

Hate when someone online vents about not liking traditionally feminine things - and ESPECIALLY not liking the fact that society forces them to do it - and every response is
a) pick me accusation
b) "i used to be like you too but now i love my 294050 step skin care routine and playing with makeup and skinny jeans and gilmore girls teehee :) you'll grow out of it <3 anyway you should like it more because it's really good for you and helps your confidence!! Don't you want to have something to talk about with other girls :3"
c) "it's not valid to say you hate those things that's misogynist :("
d) "those things are not gendered, everyone should have a 294050 step skin care routine and wear makeup <3 especially queer people regardless of gender because everyone knows queer = femininity and if you don't do this you're ugly and boring and also queerphobic"
The worst thing is that some queer women do this, like bestie I thought living outside a pretty major societal norm meant we all had to reflect on the ways in which society (and the people it consists of) tries to put everyone in a box and, you know, fight it when we see it....... Even some lesbians do this and if you call it out they say "just because i'm a lesbian doesn't mean i'm not hot and conventionally attractively feminine!!" which I find terrible
#sorry for the g*lmore g*rls mention my classmate is trying to get me to do a watchparty with her and i would rather eat dirt JSKDLSÖFÖDÖFÖ#no hate if you like it 🤣😭#anyway yeah. feel like my gender identity is 1920s berlin switchboard lady who cant afford/has no time for Beauty Care and doesnt care......#like i love vintage fashion and am not butch by any means but i DETEST contemporary makeup/plastic surgery/shave everything culture#i wish foundation was never invented because then i could pass as more conventionally attractive JSKDLD (cant wear it cos sensory nightmare)#but now i feel like EVERYONE has their brows done and foundation and if you put makeup on without doing that youre weird#i wish i could just do eyes (sloppily) and lip and it would qualify as 'made up' 😭#anyway yeah

One day when the chores get down early and Cato is healthy enough to be out about, Elijah takes his siblings to a nearby park. The twins play on the monkey bars and Elijah pushes Daphne on the swing.
After taking a break from the swing, Daphne and Elijah sit down and talk. It's not long before Daphne notices a classmate heading their way, she excitingly waves at them.
It's Cela! She surprised to find out Daphne and Cela are sibling but happy to see them both. Daphne tells Elijah that Cela will sometimes help the teacher and has become sort of a mentor toward Daphne and her friends.
The three of them talk amongst each other. Elijah is able to hear what's going on back at the school, while Cela and Daphne find out more of Elijah's job and the fish market.
It isn't long before Daphne gets bored with the conversation and starts to mess around with her brother. Cela laugh about it, seeing the siblings play around. While Elijah finds himself a little embarrassed but decides it's worth it for the girls' smiles.
Cela admits that she can't stay for long and needs to start heading home, Elijah manages to convince Cela to at least let him walk her halfway home. After telling his siblings to stay in the park the two of them head their way. It's a nice walk and Elijah finds himself enjoying Cela's company more than ever.

February 1923, Henford-on-Bagley, England
Byron’s 28th birthday passed with little fanfare. He didn’t even invite his mother to visit. Instead, he’d spent the last two months holed up in his house, writing correspondence with linguists, philologists, archeologists, etc. He’d taken up Samson’s suggestion and buried himself in his passions, and when someone asked for a person in the UK who could read and translate Akkadian and Aramaic along with fluency in Arabic, he’d eagerly volunteered himself, acting as an additional translator for recently found tablets. He’d gotten so into it that he’d even had replicas made so he could study them.
When he wasn’t doing that, he’d decided to pick up translating books again, though he used a different name for publishers, but after learning there were no official English translations of the complied tablets of the Epic of Gilgamesh that included recent discoveries, he’d thrown himself into it, spending nearly all day in his study and library all day, only leaving to sleep, eat, or bathe. It was an obsession, overtaking every other thought he had, but he supposed it was better than being depressed and drinking, even if it was still isolation
A week after his birthday, Byron received a short letter from Wilhelmina.
Byron,
I haven’t heard from you in months. I hear you’ve been busy with all sorts of translation work, and I am interested to see what you will do with it—I doubt it is a coincidence that you are writing to the same publishing company my husband uses. Jack is about to publish his third book of poems, and we’re throwing a party to celebrate, and not to flatter myself, but I am a very good hostess, and most of our friends aren’t snobby little lords and ladies, but people I think you would like to get know, writers, artists, scholars, etc. both well known and unknown. Although Jack’s not a member of the Bloomsbury Group, he spends enough time with them I think he should be! It will be on the 2nd of March, Friday evening. The party starts at six, but I implore you to come early and stay with us for the week—there is a new exhibit at the British Museum featuring pre-Anglo-Saxon Celtic Britain, and with your knowledge and mastery of Common Brittonic, I fancy you would make a lovely guide and perhaps we’ll find a dirty phrase or two. I expect a telegram within the next two days once this letter arrives.
Warmest Regards (unless you fail to reply),
Wilhelmina Porter
He laughed, setting the letter down and shaking his head. Wilhelmina, he learned, was something of a hostess, and he’d heard of parties thrown by Jack Porter and his wife, though he’d never known it was her. But it wasn’t what he was thinking about. This, alongside being a letter from a friend, was also the first invitation he’d received since getting divorced, and in truth, he missed his heavy social life in New York, and while he wasn’t accepted among men of his noble rank, she was right. He longed to be in the social circles with the beliefs he held—so it didn’t take very long before he left the library to pack a suitcase for London.

Transitus Comic Studies
These were meant to be colored but alas. Faulty art supplies. Still like these sketches though! They’re lifted from the OG comic book. The idea was to only use direct poses and scenes from the source material and try to infuse some more productive character design into them.
Focus on status of a given character (and changes in it) and some stronger air of historical reference, kept as far away from my own personal head canons of the characters and their backstories as possible.
Really had fun with these. Great figure practice ✏️
#ayreon#transitus#art#tldr of the essay these came with that ill never post:#Daniel’s character is extremely static and he never develops#him looking more and more middle class looking the further he strays from his family and home could help that along a bit#Abby is hypersexualized to no justifiable end and it makes her horrifying story arc a lot harder to take seriously#the progressive loss of structure in her funeral dress could mirror her mental state in act II and have a parallel with Daniel in Act I#Henry is well designed but he’s not communicating the type of asshole that he actually is#hes manipulative and careful and purposefully physically removed from the awful shit he does#he’s obsessed with upholding his own and by extension his family’s reputation and thus has the most incentive to look pristine + respectabl#also too hats aren’t worn indoors that’s like a basic etiquette thing#Lavinia is a downright racial stereotype in an album telling you not to judge people by that sort of thing#in addition she drags every other character’s writing down with her nonsense motivations and gimmicks#at the very least take away the g*psy persona#Abraham…doesn’t have enough canon info to get any sort of informed design in there#but the belt he has in the comic wasn’t invented until the 1920s#it wouldn’t have killed Arjen to add a location for this story either#sketch#character design#character study#1880s#Victorian era#gilded age#belle époque#historical fashion#concept album#rock opera#arjen lucassen
