I hate to nitpick the Atsushi hallucinating scene in the new episode cause it was SO well done otherwise, but I'm still really sad that they cut out Francis being there. Like... it's not entirely necessary, I guess, but it just adds so much to his character and to the scene itself?
The Francis in Atsushi's mind is this looming, intimidating presence, because Atsushi did of course fight against him, he was his enemy at one point, but I think it undeniably says a lot that he's even included here at all.
I'm pretty sure I saw this discussed back when this chapter first came out, but while everything Atsushi's hallucinations say to him are framed as negative, putting him down, they can also be read as letting him know that the burden of responsibility for making such a huge decision isn't on him (hence why he decides to let Fukuzawa decide instead, because he can't make THE choice, but he can still choose to act to let someone else decide, and not simply do nothing), and Francis is no exception in this regard. Since he's naturally haughty and arrogant in his personality, this fake version of him doesn't at all feel out of character, coldly saying that "nobody expects anything of you", but again, I think this line especially can also be read as "you are not expected to do anything". In that way, it feels more reassuring, and maybe even dare I say kind -- the fact that Atsushi even considers him important enough of a figure in his life to think of what he would say to him in this moment means that he counts Francis among his allies now. Yes, they didn't get along at first when Francis lied and told him that he only wanted to revive Margaret just so she could kill Hawthorne (because god forbid he actually admit out loud that he cares about people, smh), and obviously because of the whole almost burning Yokohama down and trying to kill him and Akutagawa thing lol, but I'm pretty sure Atsushi changed his mind about him after he saw the state Margaret was in, and recognized how much Francis cares about her and wanted her to be alright. He probably still remembers him talking about his desire to bring back his daughter and save her and his wife, too. The guy still probably isn't someone Atsushi would want to hang out with and be buddy-buddy with during his free time lmao, but the airheaded vain old sport still has a good heart, deep down, and I think Atsushi has seen this by now, because he's a kind person, and so I think it speaks volumes that he unconsciously looks to him for advice here. Francis is just a really good and underrated character, and this is such a small but meaningful moment that shows his development so well, the only moment with him we've gotten or any of the Guild really in such a long time, so it makes me sad to see this cut 💔
I also just feel like not including him kind of weakens the impact of Akutagawa's appearance here?? Like, there's a progression of the order of people Atsushi hears/sees in this scenes: first, people from the ADA sans Dazai, who are all portrayed as on the same level, because he cares about them all equally, aside from I guess Kyouka (again, sans Dazai, the most important person to him). Then, there is Francis, and not to say that Francis is more important to Atsushi than the ADA, obviously not, but he's one of the last to appear because he used to be his enemy, and so he commands much more of a presence, has more of an impact -- but at the same time, like I said, it's complicated: he's not really his enemy anymore, but something between a rival and a friend, and so for that reason his words carry more weight. He is someone Atsushi, logically, shouldn't trust, after what he did to him in the past, and yet he does, because things have changed since the Guild arc, and he knows he can count on him to be there for him and the ADA now.
And then, after him, there is Akutagawa. Who is basically exactly the same as everything I just described for Francis, but times one hundred. Of course Akutagawa would be last. Of course, if there's someone Atsushi would simultaneously and paradoxically be both intimidated by and yet comforted to hear their advice because of their tumultuous history together, far more than Francis, it would be Akutagawa. The progression of ADA members > Francis > Akutagawa in that order gives Akutagawa's appearance much more weight imo than just going straight to him from the ADA members, especially with the specific framing of him standing in line behind Francis to judge/advise Atsushi.... it's just much more powerful, and I wish they'd kept it like this, for both Francis and Aku's characters.

Funny thought I had for Phe Ulric AU - the chocobros are playing Fuck Marry Kill. Now it's Phe's turn and his choices? Noctis, Ignis and Gladio.
Phe: . . . I would kill Noct, marry Ignis and fuck Gladio.
Now Phe has to explain his reasoning without explaining he's related to one of those people or getting suspected of treason. He Regrets everything that led to this moment.
"What about you, Phe?"
"Kill Noct," he says instantly, ignoring his best friend's gasp of betrayal. Tilting his head back, he hums, debating... "Fuck Iggy and marry Gladio," Phe decides. Ignis is great and Phe loves his cooking, but really who wouldn't wanna be married to hiding-it-badly romantic Gladiolus Amicitia?
'Sides, Phe's always wanted a little sister and, since Dad isn't getting on with that, Iris is perfect.
"I would marry you," the Crown Prince of Lucis gasps out, his hand pressed to his chest. "And you would kill me? For Gladio?"
"Watch it, Princess. Can't help it if Phe knows I'm the best."
"How dare-"
Phe grins. "I don't know, bro, Gladio has a point," he says, slow and easy, as his best friend works himself up. "He'd get up and do my morning runs with me. Ifrit, he'd probably even buy me flowers."
"I'd buy you flowers," Noct mutters, pouting.
His pout only deepens when Iggy coughs to hide his laugh.
"Seriously though, Phe? Why kill me?"
"You're family, Noct," he shrugs and it isn't a lie. Even if it wasn't truer than his best friend knows, even if Noct wasn't technically his uncle, he'd still love him like the brother he is to him. "I love you, but not like that; I ain't fucking you."
Noct chokes.
"'Sides," he says. "Iggy's hotter than you are."
Huh.
He didn't know Ignis could blush like that.

Ratted out
sometimes friends and family accidentally (or purposefully) reveal things they shouldnt :)
characters featured: Leona, Kalim, Jade, Jack
ufff idk whats wrong with me but i ended up creating an entire (unrelated to this fic) movie plan related to twst this is mentally stable activities, truly
also unrelated but the new event got me SCREAMING how do they look so good😫
ᐟᐟ☆๋࣭ ⭑໑ Leona Kingscholar
when hanging out with your boyfriend Leona, a little lion boy suddenly jumps him and he immediately lets you go
who is this child???
"Uncle Leona!" the boy clings onto him and you can feel the annoyance eminating from Leona
it's like its own aura thats how annoyed he is🥴
so his nephew (you presume) looks to you all of a sudden and asks "who are you?" with an innocent look on his face
"I'm his lover...?" you said, a little unsure. But when you looked to Leona, he had a look of pure horror on his face...? What is even going on?????
"What?! No way, you're dating Uncle Leona?!" the kid got all excited and ran off somewhere before you could stop him
"...What have you done?" Leona hissed at you through clenched teeth, holding his forehead
you do realise you just revealed that he's dating you to the most big mouthed child in the world, right? that his whole family will know in a matter of minutes, right? that you've basically just invited yourself to every future family gathering at once, right?
and sure enough, in a few minutes he got a surprised text from his brother which he left on read 💀
"Damn brat..." he muttered under his breath, you still confused over what just happened
ᐟᐟ☆๋࣭ ⭑໑ Kalim Al-Asim
let's be real babes there is nothing for his siblings to rat him out on because he immediately told his family he was dating you
however....😈
his siblings happened to overhear a little something...
"Hey, hey." one of Kalim's younger brothers pulled your sleeve, wanting to tell you something
"yes?" you answered absentmindedly, thinking he's going to start talking about a strange thing he saw today or something
"Kalim's gonna marry you." he whispered to you, looking around to make sure no one heard
You laughed a little. "If you think so." you pat his little head
"No, he was like, asking mom if he can marry you soon. We heard it." another one of his brothers joined in after hearing the tea being spilled
"What?! Really?!" you're both extremely surprised and happy and mad at his brothers for ruining the surprise right now
oh well, what's done is done, and now you know Kalim is SERIOUS about you
that gets you thinking about wedding stuff now...🤔
What none of you know tho is that Jamil overheard all of you
"Okay, maybe we need to scrap the whole surprise wedding proposal thing..." he sighs, making a mental note of it and preparing to dissapoint poor Kalim
ᐟᐟ☆๋࣭ ⭑໑ Jade Leech
jade is like... oddly nice to you after you first meet him
you're a little wary of him considering his reputation but he hasn't done anything weird at all so... might as well accept his gifts?
one time he approaches you with jade in tow and you think absolutely nothing of it since they're together like 90% of the time anyways
"Hello there, are you enjoying your lunch?" he just sat down next to you without asking if he can at all 😔
"Uh, yeah, I suppose." you didn't really know what to tell him and it seems he doesnt know how to continue the conversation either so u just kinda... stare at eachother while Floyd casually steals a bit of ur food
"Maaaan, aren't you like, supposed to be crushing on Little Shrimpy or something? Then taaalk about stuff, I'm bored." Floyd looked bored when he saw the two of you didn't start talking about weird stuff
Jade simply smiled at you, telling you to ignore Floyd
But on the inside he was planning approximately 10 ways to... get rid of someone without others noticing
or alternatively, just beating the everloving crap out of his twin brother if the first plan is not a possibility
"Do you have a crush on me?" you wanted to know now...
"That's for you to think about." he smiled oddly eerily, but then just started talking abt something mundane 😥
ᐟᐟ☆๋࣭ ⭑໑ Jack Howl
You're visiting him for the first time because you got curious what his family is like
OF COURSE HE'S AN OLDER BROTHER IT ALL MAKES SENSE NOW
his younger siblings immediately ambushed you with their little sniffer noses as soon as you stepped in the house🤔
"Who are you?" they asked, always curious about anyone that Jack brings over
When you told them who you were, they immediately ran away to "TELL MOM" and were literally screaming that the two of you are dating so loudly that the whole neighborhood could hear
You could also hear some woman (who you presume is his mom) laughing from somewhere in the house so uhhh.... atleast she isn't mad about it?
You looked back at Jack who seemed more annoyed than anything
"Aren't you gonna... go stop them?" you asked, raising a brow.
"Nah, I was gonna tell mom I'm dating you anyways. I'm just mad that they beat me to it." he crossed his arms, huffing in annoyance
"Actually, speaking of, isn't me dating you kinda a big deal? You told me before that wolves have one partner for life." you actually got kinda nervous, i mean, you gotta impress his family good now
"It is. But I think everyone's just happy I got someone at all." Jack looked at his overly excited siblings who were still celebrating
"Wow, that's sad." you sassed him 😝
"...I shouldn't have brought you."

As is my want, I was presented the question of 'would my ocs make decent parents' and ran with it
Naielle - Of the three, Naielle has a big advantage, which is that she has a partner, and she has siblings with children. These are only minor advantages as there are Extenuating Circumstances, but still!
As an aunt, I think she'd be alright. She's got a generally friendly demeanour, and she's got a lot of knowledge about a bunch of fields that she can use to tell stories. And her instinct to lie by omission would be decent for storytelling, since she would naturally omit more unsuitable stuff. She wouldn't be the most exciting aunt, but she'd be nice. That said any niblings of hers would probably prefer Xistina's more relaxed and charismatic energy. But also, Naielle's competition for best aunt/uncle/entil(?) is not very competitive, barring her twin brother, who would be an EXCELLENT uncle.
As a parent, the advantage is that I know her wife, and so I think that collectively the two would be good parents. Naielle would be the somewhat stricter one, the sort who would double and triple check that you've packed everything for school today, and Xistina would be a lot more relaxed and also absolutely the one you'd turn to if you need a mum to go yell at a teacher. I wouldn't be surprised if any kids tend to divulge more to Xistina than Naielle, but I don't think Naielle would be offended by that, and she'd just try and support her kids the best she can, in her little ways. I think as a duo they'd work well.
Florian - Ignoring the fact Florian has no siblings and taking uncle as more of a state of mind, Florian would be an exceptional uncle. He has a vested interest in keeping kids safe and letting them explore and fuck around and fuck up, because of his own childhood experiences. He might not be the most charismatic guy, but he'd be very genuine, and he'd absolutely be willing to play house or whatever with the kids. And he tries very hard to present himself well around kids, trying to be careful with his language, and he doesn't always succeed and i think that'd be very fun for a kid. like :O! Uncle Florian said a bad word! and he's desperately trying to shush them before they gleefully go tell their parents about it while he dies inside. Also he'd spoil his niblings rotten, he might not buy the best gifts but by god he buys gifts!!
As a parent, this is complicated by the fact Florian is notably single and has never had a partner. I'm not sure he'd be great as a single parent, without anyone else (doesnt have to be a spouse, just like, Some Folks). It would VERY much depend on who he has as support, because I think his instinct to try and play it safe around kids would translate into a very overthinking and overworried approach to parenting, particularly as he would try VERY VERY HARD not to become his own father. So it'd be important that there's at least one other person there to be a bit more relaxed about the whole affair.
Ignoring the worry, I think he'd be pretty good? He'd be very earnest about it, and he'd try very hard to support his kids' interests. He strikes me as the kind of dad to offer to help with homework and then it turns into the kid teaching him how to do the math, which is a WAY of helping with the homework but probably not what Florian had in mind. Depending on how things go he'd probably feel a bit insecure about not being able to properly help the kid due to his limited knowledge, and he'd be trying reasonably hard to NOT have his kid grow up to be a mercenary.
He also strikes me as the sort to adopt an orphaned kid, maybe not with that as the intention at the outset but that's absolutely how it'd go. Intervenes in some bandit shit, finds a kid, escorts them back to town, oops ive adopted a child, that's the vibe.
Zimri - ???????? Zimri would be an okay entil (? pls gender neutral aunt/uncle i suffer), especially if the kid is a nerd. That said, Zimri has siblings, and their entire family are nerds, so Zimri's specific niche of being a dispensary of random knowledge and a finder of good kids books isnt especially unique. Outside of their specific family, Zimri would be a good entil for a nerdy kid, and would be especially good if the kid hates being talked down to. Because Zimri wouldn't adapt their speech for the kid at all. You want to know how boats work? Well I know a few things (insert ramble about the various kinds of sails). Smth of that nature. And if the kids interested in something Zimri doesn't know much about, they'd be the type to go buy a book to do some research so they can talk to the kid about it!
I'm unconvinced they'd be a good parent, though. Partly because I don't see Zimri as the type to settle down and have kids, which is mostly bc Zimri isn't a very charismatic person or like. good with people? So you have to engage via knowledge. Idk. It'd depend on who else is there, what village erects to raise the children, but Zimri themself isn't an exceptional parent, I don't think.
