#10 day otome challenge

i was inspired by many creators talking about this but here are some of my formal criticisms of l&ds because no matter how much i love this game and find it near-perfect, there are still flaws!

zayne's english voice lines. while it didn't bother me on the level that it did most in the past, i do think infold could do a great service of rerecording the interaction lines. they finally found the right footing for his tone and how to capture his character with the later affinity content and the recent events / main story chapter. please! i beg! (i'm already aware the localization isn't top tier but i feel this is a somewhat doable fix, though tedious.)

the timing of banners. in this economy? insane. also i'm gonna be real, i'm unemployed right now (it was an unfortunate circumstance) and my means of finding a proper job is honestly difficult with my full load of classes. it's hard being a f2p player especially when the rewards for grinding isn't as hefty as i'd like it to be. i think it's decent for what it is right now, but it could be better. also... they need to space this shit out. LMAO. i've played my fair share of gacha and otome games, yes, but with how fast-paced the updates for this game is, infold could at least offer some more in-game benefits or rewards. (ex. giving out free 10 pulls... if you're going to do a quad banner, i wouldn't mind 40 free pulls as i could just grind the rest during the duration of that event.)

increasing rewards for daily tasks/challenges/etc. because what am i gonna do with 30-50 gens per card upgrade, and so on and so forth. i also would like a new update to the abyssal chaos deductions. maybe upgrade the rewards cap since so many of us (i assume) have already maxed it out. unfortunately as a girlie who fucking loves hack and slash games, abyssal chaos is my favorite game mode and it doesn't stress me out. (a bitch is STRUGGLING with her protocore levels right now.)

infold's stance on lgbtq+ fan content. i already wrote a post here somewhat related to this. while i'm talking fans specifically, infold's stance is what i feel significantly influences the homophobic behavior. yes, we know it's an otome game. yes, we know what otome means. but i just call it what it is and i think the love interests are not confined to strict heterosexuality and the norms of it.

the characterization and treatment of the LIs. i'll be honest one of the huge turn offs for me for rafayel is the way the mc's responses are programmed towards him. while i don't mind banter in the way that it's done for zayne/sylus, i don't like how snarky it is on the player's end for rafayel. also, i know i'm a pervert on the main but i do think infold could chill a bit on the hypersexualization in certain instances (sylus). because there's no way you're gonna give me 50% and then not fulfill the rest. this is the worst kind of foreplay.

i've seen a few instances of people from cn explaining that there's setbacks due to cultural norms, etc. that would prevent something like a card with fully explicit sex being made. that's why there's only sexually implicit content. (if anyone could provide context on this or confirm, do add!) ((yes, i've seen the car sex card from mqlc... need that with zayne actually.))

every day i'm thankful for the misty invasions event, but i still have hope for more. i guess what i'm trying to say is that infold is already on a good run with making this game as to appeal to a more mature audience, yet... THERE COULD BE MORE. idk.

Frottage - Rubbing against another person's body/part of the body.

Dacryphilia - Crying during sex.

my first impression of him on a teaser tweet of ikevamp EN was that he looks like an asshole, and I didn't like his looks either...

my falling for him was utterly illogical as despite these thoughts I put him on my phone wallpaper a few days later (still before the release of ikevamp EN)

as of right now ao3 says he appears in 59 of my posted works: the total number of fics I have published with him is higher as a few of those are stand-alones in a multichapter fic (napoleon bday prompts 2019 +9, yumeweek 2020 +5, mini requests +4, headcanons +11 ) ...he appears in about 1/3 of all my fics!

we share a hobby of reading biographies! the official ikevamp character sheets state it as his hobby

I really suck at completing the bday creation challenges I host for him, as last year I did 0 prompts and the year before that 2....but in 2019 I did 10!

In 2020, two friends reached out. We were all isolated because of the pandemic, and as October approached, they wanted to try some creation challenges (not exactly Kinktober for them --- this was more my thing than theirs ---, but any writing challenges to work on something together).

I've met them in YYH/HxH fandom. I have written together with one of them back in 2016/2017, once literally sharing a fanfic as authors, and one that was really amazing. But eventually, interests diverged and I started playing more otome games than watching animes for a while, something none of them were ever interested in.

During this 2017-2020 hiatus I did try to write, to exhaustion sometimes, even if I had no friends in those fandoms or weren't an active part on them in any way. It didn't work, but I never credited this failure to solitude. It just didn't work.

Then in 2020 my friends convinced me to write for HxH again in October, and I did. Every single day during that month. And every single day they were there in our group chat, discussing ideas and cheering up for each other and celebrating each fanfic posted.

I met the bestie I often mention in the comment sections of some of those fics. By then, I only wrote in Portuguese, but she read everything with Google Translate. We shared our Discords and started talking everyday. In December that year, I finally started risking writing in English, thanks to her encouragement.

We used to share this amazing connection. We would complete each other's ideas very easily, and share absolutely everything and anything that reminded us of our ship. Our chat was a neverending brainstorm, and I lost count of the times I stood up 'til 3, 4 am writing with her, sharing every paragraph just for her to spam me with emojis and gifs of encouragement.

She stayed for a while when I got into IkePri, and this is how I managed to write 10 chapters of the first fanfic I wrote about Keith and Maeve, that started even before I created this blog. But she never got into the game herself, and now although we keep in touch, there's no more brainrots. It's the same with my two friends.

And now I'm here.

I know I'm appreciated by some, and some people have tried to encourage me here and there, but... Octobers come and go and I'm just here, fading in the background like maybe a nice presence people enjoy chatting sometimes, but no longer a part of anything really that someone would care if I'm writing/creating or not. That someone would invite me to create together as writing buddies or anything.

There's more to it, but I think part of my agony and why it's been worse now is this.

Anime/Otome 31 Day Challenge

Day 10 Who Do You Find Adorable & Cute But Would Never Romance?

To me most are dateable in the otome games especially if they are adorable or cute however I just can't wrap my mind around dating Wataru Asahina from Brothers Conflict. He is rather annoying anyways so no loss there but he is 10 years old. I can get past alot are younger in most games and anime but he looks like a little kid where most the rest don't.

40 Day Anime Challenge  Day 19- Something you ship that makes absolutely no sense: Alice Liddell and Peter White from Alice in the Country of Hearts (2011)

Synopsis (paraphrased from fandom.com: Alice Liddell is kidnapped to  Wonderland and thrust into a "game," where the only way to return home is to get acquainted with Wonderland’s denizens. However, her attractive, weapon happy new friends are embroiled in a power struggle that may kill her first!

Warning: I know this is a post about anime, but in this case I will say DON’T WATCH THE ANIME! They adapted a 10-route otome game that took a 6-volume manga and 9 spin off series into an 85-minute movie. Needless to say, it’s terrible. Play the game or read the manga.

*MAJOR Spoilers Ahead*

Yes, Peter kidnapped Alice and brought her to this dangerous world. Yes, he constantly disrespects her boundaries. (To be fair, so do most of the other characters.) And yes, his attitude is really annoying. So, why do I ship this?

All based on a headcannon that isn’t even true. Peter was the only one who saw Alice in her world, and it’s explained in the manga that he brought Alice to Wonderland to rescue her from a tragedy in her world, that she doesn’t remember that her sister Lorina is dead, and that in order to bring her there, she couldn’t remember him from the Sunday afternoons in her world. My musings started when @sailorstarr-chan4​ told me she believes Alice killed her sister, which is why she feels guilt about her sister but cannot remember that she’s dead. And it made so much sense I couldn’t let it go.

Now, why would Alice kill her sister? We know she constantly compares herself to her sister and has incredibly low self esteem, and that she was dumped for her sister. Given Alice’s character, I don’t think these motivations alone are enough for her to kill her sister. However, let’s think about the life of the real Alice Liddell. She was the middle child of a well to do family, and thus routinely ignored. She received romantic attention from Lewis Carroll when she was 10. Something happened that led her parents to cut contact with him, and while that something has never become public knowledge, the rumors about it ended her engagement to the love of her life, Prince Leopold. Looks to me like someone was abused as a child and blamed for it later. So back to our anime/manga/game, why would her sister be the target of her rage? My theory is more fleshed out in this fic I wrote, but read the trigger warnings first!

But, after reading Peter’s spin-off and playing his route, I found no evidence to support either theory. In fact, his route didn’t even mention that Lorina was dead. But then I read this true end summary, and while her sister is confirmed dead, neither me or Star’s theories are true. The truth is actually way more boring. She blames herself for Lorina’s death (who died of illness) but blames herself after being blamed by her younger sister Edith simply because she cannot cry at the funeral. Just because she processes grief differently, she is blamed and blames herself. That’s the despair that Peter wanted to save her from when he kidnapped her. I mean, I’m glad she didn’t go through what I thought she did, but still...kind of underwhelming.

So, that’s basically why I ship Alice and Peter, because in my mind, he’s the one who saves her from trauma. And he still is, it’s just not as dramatic as I thought. And by bringing her to the Country of Hearts and making her forget the truth, he’s impeding her ability to process her grief and move forward, so really, how much of a hero is he to her? I ship them because I see Peter as Alice’s hero, but that opinion doesn’t make much sense anymore.

Also, the true ending shows that Nightmare had a role in bringing Alice to the Country of Hearts, and it’s unclear who’s idea it was originally to bring her there, so who is really her “savior?” And it’s revealed that all the characters loved her and tried to make her happy because of what she’d been through. So, if everyone knew, then any of them could have been with her based on my trauma bonding/healing ship dynamic. 

HOWEVER...I still ship it.

Great Gundam Project: almost done with their 0079 episodes and it's so funny to hear how confused and surprised they are that Newtypes don't get mentioned until the last 10 episodes. also, once again, hearing them talk about Char reminds me that I miss seeing Char on my television screen :/

Palisade: once again it was crazy good this week. shout out to fucked up dream sequences/visions of alternate futures, gotta genuinely be one of my favorite storytelling devices

Imperial Uncle: got to more fun reveals that make the main relationship a lot tastier and more fun. still having a good time with this one

The Death I Gave Him: part of the appeal of this book for me (other than that I love Hamlet & Hamlet retellings) is the romance with the sentient lab AI. this should shock absolutely no one (at least no one who knows me as the Sokrates/Integrity guy lol) but I'm real into stuff that explores like, how intimacy works when you don't each have your own separate bodies

A Power Unbound: also started & finished something I've been looking forward to, A Power Unbound by Freya Marske, the third book in a romance/historical fantasy trilogy (different main characters for each) set mostly in Edwardian England. I've enjoyed the other books in the series, and I enjoyed this one too (though I think I prefer the other two for reasons that probably don't have to do with the actual quality of this book and have more to do with what I like & don't like in a main relationship, and actually it's a testament to how strong the writing was that the relationship worked for me anyway, because it did feel earned in terms of both characterization & themes, even though it's the sort of relationship dynamic that I tend to be hesitant about because I often see it done very badly in fanfic in ways that do a disservice to the personalities of both characters involved). anyway. my actual review is that I love fucked up magic houses and there are several of those in this book so shout out to that, and one of the main characters is extremely my type (short, angry, hates the aristocracy, etc)

watching:

I'm in Love with the Villainess: we're caught up now, and I do love class conflict even if I'm sure it's going to be incredibly simplistic and silly because that's the show this is (which I am fine with, to be clear, this is a romance anime based on lovingly parodying otome games, I am treating it with the same kind of seriousness that I would treat something like Scum Villain)

Bakeoff: I'm glad that this year they seem to be better about not putting way too much weight on the showstopper and sometimes deciding star baker based on other challenges like. finally some respect for people who do really well in the signature!!

Legend of the Galactic Heroes: I mean. I've been posting through it about this one so I don't think I have any new insights here just. man. I love it when a major character death is done really well. what a show (positive)

Gundam Seed: you may, at this point, be asking why Seed is our next Gundam after finishing ZZ, especially when every week I talk about pining for Char. the answer is because my roommate watched some of it a while ago and wanted to revisit it, and also because we're saving Char's Counterattack for when we get really desperate for Gundam that isn't Seed. anyway. Seed is fun so far!

the above description of Gundam Seed was written a few days ago when we first started but before we got to the info dump about what's up with Coordinators & Naturals so I'm editing this to say: oof. it really is like what if someone took all of the parts of the original Newtype stuff that I was most skeptical about, took out all of the metaphorical stuff from Zeta that redeemed the concept for me, and then explicitly added literal eugenics. don't like that!

the other thing about Seed is the misogyny which like. god. at least the misogyny in Zeta felt more interesting to think about. at least it felt like Tomino was saying things about gender even if I didn't always like it. this is just peak early 2000s misogyny where everyone including the writers hates women so much that every man comes across as incredibly gay because their relationships with other men are treated so much more seriously

at this point you might be asking what I actually like about this show since I've been complaining for several paragraphs and the answer is I love it when childhood friends end up on the opposite sides of a war. also, a lot of Seed feels like it's trying very hard to Be A Gundam Show (for better or worse tbh, I can feel myself being marketed to, I can practically hear Bandai being like, hey remember how cool it is when a blue-and-white mobile suit fights a pinkish-red mobile suit, don't you want to buy some models), and I am not immune to classic Gundam shit like "oops these kids are involved in a war now because the military was developing a top-secret superweapon right next to where they live" and "your lives are at risk and/or you might get arrested for trying to protect your friends because the higher-ups are incompetent/selfish/do not care about you." I am also not immune to squads of edgy anime boys, or giant robots that each have their own special weapon/power, or whatever the fuck Le Creuset's got going on. I love him. I still miss Char and he's not quite filling that void but I do love him

another session of my Blades in the Dark campaign, based on the image below (from here). the crew was asked to get the sea serpent to go away and leave ships alone, and absolutely no one was surprised that the secret actual mission was to protect the sea serpent (a baby one) from the coast guard who were going to try to make it leave but more violently because we're playing Blades like it's a game about befriending creatures (see also: Missy is currently trying to resocialize a former fighting goat and Xiao Yun collects extremely fucked up birds)

Ace Attorney 5: not very far into the trial but man. sorry for falling for the trilogy nostalgia but I love to have Edgeworth as a prosecutor, I love the energy that he and Phoenix have, I'm such a sucker for defense attorney & prosecutor working together to find the truth and also they're in love

making: vaguely spanakopita-inspired stuffed pastry wreath. we made it once before and put too much extra vegetable in that released too much water while it was baking so the dough just straight up did not cook. we did it better this time! the dough is actually baked! (it's store-bought crescent rolls, we did not make the dough). anyway. there's spinach and mushroom and herbed goat cheese in there, and it's tasty

drinking: the grocery store had peppermint bark creme liqueur, and it's pretty good in hot chocolate

writing: continued to pick away at a zine fic, figured out what I want to write for my Nirvana in Fire exchange fic, and also did a little bit more on the Integrity fic that I've been working on. it has been a minute since I've written an action scene huh

10 Days Otome Challenge  Day 1: Most and Least Favorite Otome Game

Most favorite: OZMAFIA!!

I considered putting 7KPP (7 Kingdoms: The Princess Problem) here, but thought that since it’s an unfinished game, I’ll give the spot to OZMAFIA!! Amazing art, story, music, and characters! I’ve been a big fan of The Wizard of Oz series since I was a kid, so finding an otome game incorporating that concept was almost too good to be true. While I did not love all the routes (really, I’d just like to befriend the other characters, haha), they were all enjoyable. I’d find myself randomly giggling while reading the conversations. It’s a really well-written game! Also, I love the love triangle feature that they included in the game. It was really inventive of them! I could not imagine the amount of headache they had to endure just to make it work, haha! A Hansel and Gretel route would have been nice though...and a full route for H*melin!  ٩(ఠ益ఠ)۶

Least favorite: Diabolik Lovers 

Disclaimer: I don’t hate this game! Haha. I played this game on Japanese (I had to rely on online translations), and actually finished a few routes! I dropped this game because I was not really 100% comfortable with it. I guess it’s popular because of its sadist-masochist elements, but it’s just not for me! The art is incredible though! (Same artist as OZMAFIA)  (´ ω `♡)

My username, posts & reblogs says it all (though ikevam is a close second) on how I'm into this game! The variation of characters, moments of fluff, angst, comedy (they always get me), uh... intimate times, character interactions, side stories; pretty much everything is engaging! I haven't looked forward into playing a game in a daily basis like this for a long while. Oh yeah, the suitors are bad-asses in their own ways (some are manly in quite unconventional ways); I love it💕

P.S. this very game made me braver when reading nsfw stuff, truly. I guess it's a good thing...?

Least Favorite: Games with Phone Calls

I can't pinpoint titles and I tried playing those types (and lasted even weeks at some, at least) but for some reason it never struck me. (1) What was your first impression of the game? Is this the first Cybird game you've ever played? First Cybird game, indeed! I was really intrigued by the dateable "historical figures" angle more than the vampire aspect. I went in with a curious history nerd mentality. I didn't know much about any of the historical figures themselves, so I was interested to see how they'd spin them into otome men.

(2) Who was the character you liked most in the beginning, and is he still your fave? The way Leonardo and I locked eyes for the first time was like something out of a fairytale. There was no other option than him right from the start. Vincent was a close second, and then Dazai way later, but they've been friend-zoned. Leonardo retains his husband role.

(3) How you picked your first route, and whose route was it? Was your favorite suitor available when you first started playing? I was very lucky that Leonardo's route already had voice acted scenes by the time I joined. It was a fun escape from the rough isolation time I was going through back then (summer 2020, aka lockdown). I'm happy that Vincent was also available cuz he was my instant second pick.

(4) An unavailable route you're looking forward to: I stopped keeping up with ikevamp after finishing Sebas' route 😔😔😔 Out of the two new bois, I think I'm more curious about Francis Drake.

(5) A character you thought would be different than how he is: HMMM… It has to be Vlad, and maybe Shakespeare, too. I wanted villains, but Cyb had other plans I suppose. I haven't read Vlad's route yet, but his vibe is very different from how he was set up in previous routes.

(6) Is there a suitor who you used to dislike, but eventually changed your opinion about? Probably Arthur. When I look at him as a mystery nerd rather than a playboy love interest, he became more appealing for me to explore as a writer. I have Future Plans for him, but who knows when that will see the light of day 😅😅😅

(7) Do you remember your first story event? I started the game during the 1st year anniversary event 🤔🤔 what was the first story event after that hmm… I focused more on kiss events since those needed planning and you got to save the stories forever. I definitely went all out for those (my precious spreadsheets…)

(8) Have you ever spent money on the game? Have you tried the free diamonds offers? I USED TO COMPLETE OFFERS ALL THE TIME. In the first year, the offers were easy to do, some time-consuming but with good enough pay off. I may have spent… once 👉🏻👈🏻 for Leo's "Since the Day We Kissed" POV story.

(9) Do you have a favorite avatar item? Is it a plushie or maybe a unique hairstyle? I made a lot of avatar rooms!! Tho I'm not that big on collecting avatar stuff (I did go all out ONCE for Vincent during an election event and burned out completely ahah). There's SO MANY pretty dresses in this game. My favorite item tho has to be the "Chocolate Brown Braided Updo" which you get from Leonardo's Route, Avatar Challenge, Ch 10 (yus I looked it up).

(10) Have you ever bought merch of your favorite ikevamp character? Not bought, but a dear friend of mine gifted me Leonardo and Vincent merch 💕💕💕 They're where I can see them everyday and they make me happy

(11) Have you ever mistakingly spent your stamina not in the story event? All. The. Time. cries It happens every event, no matter what

(12) What's the luckiest you've ever been when it comes to the gacha? What about your most unlucky memory? My luckiest was getting Leonardo's yukata card!! Followed by the rose coffin one!! 😍😍😍 Any and every Leonardo card is a Lucky Card, indeed. My unluckiest venture was my attempt at getting Leo's 4th bday card, having saved up 4*-guarantee tokens and a handful of regular tokens too…I failed miserably. 😒😒 Leonardo only seems to come home when I pull for gacha at 5am.

(13) The slowliest you've ever completed a route vs the quickest: I typically spent the standard month on a route (reading a chapter per day), but I remember skipping through the second half of Shakes' route, so I ACTUALLY DONT KNOW WHAT HAPPENED. It's lowkey frustrating but I have little motivation to actually…read it… despite unlocking both endings.

(14) Do you use your 5 free chapter tickets daily? Used to! Very diligently! I haven't read a chapter since the first day of Vlad's release (I'm 2 chapters in, apparently).

(15) A moment in a route that made you cry and a moment in a route that made you laugh: Hmmmmmm I feel a lil sad that my memory of most routes is blurred now. Any scene about Sebas and his diary made me laugh, anytime The Funny Music played (if you play with sound, you know the one), I knew I was in for a Funny Time, it's what got me hooked on the story in the first place, how silly it all is. As for crying, I'll never forget how frustrated I was with the second half of Vincent's route, that's for sure.

(16) Who is your favorite pureblood vampire? As characters, I actually really like all three cuz they show/ represent different perspectives on the "pureblood vampire" experience in this universe. In my mind, I've been exploring my own interpretations of the characters, extending from canon, so I perceive them very differently from how they're presented in the game.

(17) Do you have a favorite CG? What about a favorite card? Leo's 3rd bday card 🥺🥺🥺🥺 It has the cutest line!! "Hey! What am I supposed to do if you blow out my candles? Sigh.." It paints such a cute scene in my mind that it makes me happy whenever I read it. + Leo's 2nd bday CG where he's all BLUSHYYYY. Aside from Leo, I really like Shakes's "carrying MC" poses. And that one Dazai CG where he drops his clown facade, "Smoke of the Past".

(18) Any famous historical figures you wished were in ikevamp? WELL, whenever I may decide to return to the Ikevamp' universe, I want to explore Gilbert & Sullivan (Theatre partners) as vampire hunters. I learned about them in Music History class and thought they'd make a fun bantering duo.

(19) What card is currently on your home screen in the game? Leo's Rose Coffin, Leo's Restaurant Date, Leo's new King of Vampires card who replaced Leo's Yukata card.

(20) What do you think about the suitors' pets? Which one is your favorite? I love the pets!! They deserve more spotlight!!! Brush is my homie, I love that Vincent washes his paint brushes with his petto. I like all the pets that have a presence in the main story, like Vic in Arthur's route.

All in all, I still love the Ikevamp universe, even though I've mostly moved on to Twisted Wonderland as my daily game. Still, I still have stories I wanna tell with these boys, so I'm not detaching completely just yet 🥺🥺🥺 I'm just not drawn to the romance in the game anymore, but the worldbuilding…now that's something I wanna dig into more 👀🌟✨✨

Fall Fluff / Autumn Angst Content Creator Challenge

I am so excited to announce this autumn-themed content creator challenge I am co-hosting with @violettduchess. As you can see from the title, this challenge is all about fluff and angst - some may consider this an alternative to Kinktober as there is no smut.

Rules:

This challenge will start on September 15 and conclude on November 15. Sometime after that date, we will create a masterlist of all works submitted as part of the challenge.

This challenge is open to all content creators - fan artists, fanfic writers and everyone and anyone in between.

Most favorite: 707 from Mystic Messenger!

Do I even have to explain this. There’s no question here, every Mystic Messenger fan loves him! His route may not be my favorite, but to me, he is easily the most likeable otome male character that I’ve encountered, particularly because I think he’s very relatable! And he’s really funny, so what’s not to love. I love his character so much, and really, I got into Mystic Messenger (and then created this blog) because of him, haha. Though, I have to say, rather than a romantic interest, I think I’d like him better as a close friend. Maybe it’s because I think we are very similar.  ٩(｡•́‿•̀｡)۶

Least favorite: Ukyo from Amnesia: Memories

I thought hard about this. I don’t hate or dislike Ukyo at all! I actually considered putting Shin here (also from Amnesia), because I remember having to coerce myself just to finish his route lol (and he was my first route too...), but then, I guess it’s just because I think Shin’s route is boring, but personality-wise, I like Shin better than Ukyo, which puts him on the spot of my least favorite otome charcter (ಥ﹏ಥ) Please don’t attack me, Ukyo stans. I think he can be pretty funny (that one joke about grabbing the calculator to calculate two digits is forever relatable), I just don’t find him very appealing. And for the record, it’s not because of his yandere persona. I loved Toma and his route (from the same game)! I honestly thought it was pretty repetitive to put two yanderes in one game, but that’s just me!  (・`ω´・)
