ok but one sided nikprice. nik, who is so devoted and loyal to price despite the distance between them, despite not seeing each other for years. price cherishes their friendship but he's.. never really allowed himself to think of it as anything more. over the years he swallowed those thoughts down, and eventually forgot. but nik never did, and something squeezes in his chest everytime he sees price.

Just... The idea that Price sees himself as Broken. Not just unlovable, or a bit of a 'tough sell' when it comes to romance, but intrinsically unsalvageable as a person. He's not being dramatic about it, just pragmatic. Like he is with all things.

Traumatic upbringing (according to my headcanon for it), equally traumatic young adulthood during which survival meant carving parts of yourself off, reshaping your body and mind to become truly formidable as a machine of war. You don't become that - make the choices or do the things he does - without losing parts of yourself.

Price looks in the mirror and he doesn't see something capable or worthy of love, but that was the sacrifice he made; dirty hands so others could stay clean. To him, love is clean. It's something others get to have because he sacrificed his chance for it for them. It wouldn't be love if he put his grimy hands on it.

Nikolai, who has come out the other side of that. He lost so much of himself when he turned for 'the other side' and then again when he left the army, but through being independent of it all, working for himself, he managed to reshape not only his destiny, but his mind, his body as well. He gave himself permission to really be himself. It was a messy, painful process, because change and growth are hard, but Nik did it. The whole human condition is a train wreck of spidering growth, dead ends, false starts and successes, and Nik loves that.

For Nik, love is a beautiful wreckage of the heart (he's Russian so it kinda comes with the territory); it's dirty, it's messy, it's flawed. Because humans are flawed. The heartache, the euphoria; it's two sides of the same bloody coin.

So, yeah. For Price, love is clean and so he can't have it, because he can never have that sanitised, uncomplicated, pure thing in his head. For Nik, love is a whirlwind and he will suffer the storm for Price, because that's what love feels like.

Oh my goddddd, I started a “Regulus survived” fic about four years ago and never got more than 20 pages in, but I just reread it this morning and I’m PISSED that 2020 me did not continue it. I am COMPELLED by this fic.

It was an AU where Kreacher brought the half-drowned Regulus back to Grimmauld Place, and Mrs. Black hid him and sent him off to hide with Cassiopeia Black who had also faked her own death. From there, he spends the next decade and a half hunting down precious treasures for his greedy great-aunt in exchange for her discretion. He roams the Balkans for years. He gets all leathery from being in the sun. He eventually bumps into Dumbledore and, cover blown, is blackmailed into helping Dumbledore find and destroy Horcruxes. It was supposed to take place during PoA. There was SUPPOSED to be a violent, emotional reunion between Sirius and Regulus. BLOOD would’ve sprayed. They would’ve YELLED.
