1) Farcille is my number one!!! I wish I’ve drawn more of them, but most of my ideas for them are longggg and angsty and take a lot more mental bandwith. I’ve said before, I approach comics like I’m pitching an idea, and I mostly* agree with people’s depictions of them, so I have less to say.

*I say mostly because I cannot stand when people depict Falin as possessive, or disregard her characterization to give her generic dommy alpha monster traits hdhshdjs NOT THAT IT’S BAD it just doesn’t feel true to her character. I find myself bored by it.

I’m also put off by some of the folks I’ve seen in the farcille tags. They’re like,,, cliquey?? There was a point where people were dunking on mlm ships that came off borderline terfy, as if most of the dungeon meshi mlm shippers aren’t transmascs and lesbians?? I wasn’t a fan of the hostility like lmao it’s cartoons man

2) labru……… I love them….. mostly just post-canon. I really love Kabru (I think he’s my favorite character overall) and I loveeee the poetry of their individual character arcs and how well they play together. Guy who struggles to be honest, even with his own feelings vs Guy who doesn’t even consider being anything except honest. Kabru needing to carefully, painstakingly craft a mask tailored to each individual he interacts with, vs Laios, who is the only one to make all of Kabru’s masks fall apart. Also I think they’re kinda aro about it. They’re really good t4t flavored too.

The main appeal is post-canon. The King and his advisor. His right hand man. But it’s also the way like,,, Laios is DEFINITELY not the one in charge in their relationship dhshshsh (and this is what peeves me about how @myszkaa’s labru comic got memed to hell and back…. they don’t understand the later of comedy is from the KING asking for PRAISE from his SUBORDINATE!!!)

I will say!! This ship has a lot of folks with good takes on it, but it’s not immune to flanderization and boring yaoification. It’s popular enough that there’s enough of the good stuff.

3) chilshi!! I’ll admit this one has less canon validation hdhshsh but I think they have a lot of post-canon potential, and I think their difference in lifespans + the contrast in their lifestyle habits is really interesting and directly addresses a lot of the Dungeon Meshi’s core themes.

Part of the reason I like hanging out with chilshi shippers is cause most of em are chill, more nuanced in discussions, and are actually willing to draw fat & hairy people. And middle aged people.

special mention Kabumisu. I WISH I LIKED THIS ONE MORE!! I’ve tried,,,, I see the potential but I’m so picky about it and most of the content for it does absolutely nothing for me 🙈

Idk why but lately I've been thinking a lot about a reader who is some flavor of trans/didn't vibe with their assigned gender at birth. Maybe in a scenario where they were kinda neglected with the X-men they were worried being different like that would only make them more isolated/get reader in trouble. So in a scenario like in fallen snow au where they are separated from the yans for an extended period of time and find themselves free and living on their own, reader just goes all out with dressing and presenting themselves in a way that they feel like they couldn't before. Like, they look completely different from when they left/ran away from the mansion.

When the yans do find reader? Reader has gone all out, they realized theyre transfem? Reader is wearing all the girly clothes she always wanted to but was too scared to try. Reader realized theyre transmasc? He's cut his hair, has a binder and models his look after like- Ryan Reynolds or something. Reader realized theyre nonbinary? They be rocking the most slaying fit that reassures them of their androgenous identity.

Idk just- the x-men finally finding reader after a long time only to realize just how little they all really knew reader. The yans realizing just how badly they messed up bc only when reader was alone and away from the mansion did reader feel confident/comfortable enough to come out. Heck, maybe reader DID try to come out but the yans were just that neglectful.

The real question is if the yans overcorrect themselves and slather trans!reader with affection or just act like reader always presented as their preferred gender and the yans try to pretend they didnt mess up as badly as they did.

I was thinking about this as well-

If Creed Reader (or any Reader) was trans (transfem/transmasc/transenby), they'd feel like they could breath, could just be, foe the first time they're alone amd on their own. Our system name is the bubblegum bros!! BB for short. Our collective pronouns are they/he and we use singular and plural pronouns more or less interchangeably (I/we, my/our, etc)

We are a large and introject heavy, audhd, adaptive/mainly traumagenic system

Idk if we have a “collective aesthetic” but generally we associate our system with gumball machines and candy, because if our name. Our name is something I chose cause I associate MY aesthetic with candy and “bubblegum pink” is my favorite color. I presented the name idea to my headmates with the cute concept of the alters in our system being like different flavored gumballs in a gumball machine and we agreed on it!

We try not to seriously pick favorites for a multitude of reasons but some of my “favorite” headmates are Tommy, Cody, and Tabitha!! They’re the most frequent fronters in our system besides myself so I know them the best and I get along with them very well!! Cody is actually my in-sys half brother :]]

We collectively identify as transmasc and queer, plural, and generally neurodivergent. Many of us are also alterhuman, spiritual, pagan, witches, etc.

We are pro-endo/endo-friendly because of making reasons, but mainly because we believe that it’s not possible to truly know what’s going on in someone else’s head and I think it’s better to be kind and respectful and supportive rather than hateful, critical, or gatekeep-y. Brains and bodies are weird, the human (or nonhuman) experience is complex and fluid and I try to treat people how I want to be treated, believed and respected when talking about my personal experiences and identities. Plus, we will always be stronger in numbers than we are divided

The different people in our system have many differences and similarities, from core beliefs to general opinions, morals and values, interests and preferences, gender identity, attraction or lack thereof, age, species, etc and we love how diverse we are and learning more about each other, at least I certainly do

In general we try to be very open minded and kind while still being stable in our own beliefs and such

We are multifandom and have like a bajillion different hyperfixations and special interests, we will never judge you for yours

We love expressing ourselves and our feelings and interests. Many of us are artists and writers

Southern Sweet Tea(hold the bigotry)

I'm trying to keep my sanity through the mother of all migraine hangovers, so here, have a recipe that I'm making real-time.

Aquire:

Tea, 10 tea bags of. I recommend 9 bags of generic black tea and one of something flavored. this batch is mint. Last one was vanilla rooibos. Great way to use samples from fancy tea places

Water.

Granulated sugar. Anywhere between 1/2 cup and 1 cup. I use about 3/4 cup

2 quart pitcher. I like my koolaid looking glass one but whatever you have thats approx. 2 quarts

4 cup microwavable container. I use a Pyrex 4 cup measure

Microwave. I'm not sure how to time this stovetop, but I have pictures so you can see how dark the tea has to steep and work from there

You only need to remember two numbers: 10; 5 and 5

10 tea bags

Microwave for 5 minutes

Steep for 5 minutes

Now. Instructions.

1. Peel tea bags

Don't worry about the staples in the tea bags, I've done this in like 6 different microwaves and none of them had problems

2. Add Cold Water

Just fill'er up, don't bother measuring

3. Heat and steep

Microwave on your normal setting for 5 minutes. Let sit and steep in the microwave for 5 minutes. When you're done it should look like that ^^

If you're short a microwave, boil your 10 tea bags in 4ish cups of water until it looks like the above.

3.5. Prep sugar

While your tea is heating and steeping, put your sugar into your pitcher. This is so you don't accidentally cool off your hot tea before adding the sugar.

Trust me, learn it this way so brain fog doesn't rob you of delicious sweet tea one day.

4. Disolve sugar

Pour your hot tea straight from your measure into your pitcher with the sugar. Stir with preferred stirring implement UNTIL ALL THE SUGAR IS DISSOLVED.

This step is what differentiates yankee iced tea from southern iced tea. It's literally why I have to make it myself rather than get it from any restaurant around here.

5. Fill the pitcher

With your tea bags still in, use your brewing container to add cold water to your sweetened tea concentrate. If you like really strong tea, squish the tea bags with your spoon as you decant fresh water into the pitcher.

Fill all the way to the top of your pitcher

6. Taste test

Do a quick taste to check the strength and sweetness of your tea.

Too strong? Dump a bit out and replace it with water.

Not strong enough? Make a little more tea with your tea bags and replace some, maybe adding some sugar

Not sweet enough? Disolve more sugar in hot water before adding

Too sweet? Same thing as not strong enough just don't add any sugar.

OR. as I do when I fuck it up, drink it anyway and adjust my process for next pitcher.

7. Chill

Chuck that sucker in the fridge for a few hours.

If you're in a huge hurry, you can dilute the pitcher with ice cubes instead of cold water. Just know the tea won't be as strong.

8. Serve

Serve over ice.

Will take multiple kinds of liquor well as a mixer if that's your thing, but since booze gives me a headache more often than not, I only have second-hand accounts of this.

So yeah. Go forth with your knowledge. And fellow yankees who just want a fuckin decent iced tea without road tripping to below the mason-dixon line, you're welcome.

I learned this from my mom who's the staunchest queer ally I know, but SHE learned it from her mom, who thinks my transmasc ass is her poor sweet confused granddaughter. So queer it the fuck up.

The main reason I don't connect at all with having been younger is because my personality shifts are especially extreme and my autism was not well managed and I had no helpful adults in my life for a long time so I was in a really bad place for a really bad time. The only part of my life I feel anything but intense cringe or regret for starts in 2020.

I feel like I didn't experience manhood mostly because of that autism. I had zero friends and did nothing offline until high school, when I had one who was also kinna an outcast. He had a bunch of friends who weren't me but were mostly girls, idk if that reflects anything about him. The people I spent the most time with were my cousins who never treated me in an especially gendered way. I feel like my most masculine experiences were not getting to keep my hair long or play with Barbies.

Of course, logically speaking, I did probably benefit over an AFAB child at some point because I was thought to be a boy, but being thought to be a boy was itself damaging, so it overall was an L for both of us. Lotta damage to a lotta people in a lotta ways in this society.

Yet even still, I have so many masculine interests. Shonen anime shaped not just my life, but my personality. That's another way I feel a kinship with transmasc fujoshis, who look at men in anime and say "I want that for myself." I'm not a man but I understand being a girl and seeing that appeal. One might say that in my case it's just hitting it's target audience, it's normal for boys to model themselves after boys media, but idk! I'm not a boy! I, however, unlike other AMAB trans women who should never have to describe themselves this way if they don't want, am male. I am a male woman. I think a lot of transmasc people, who see themselves as female men or are non-binary,* can understand finding how a sense of "maleness" and womanhood can both fit together.

And it is specifically anime. Lately I've been more down with having a lot of body hair because I think it's hot for me as a male woman to have body hair, but I still hate facial hair aesthetically and think it's immensely uncomfortable to have for reasons that don't even have anything to do with gender. If I hadn't ever been into Dragon Ball specifically I probably wouldn't want to be buff, either. But how can I not, with this being the very peak of childish coolness to me?

Most of the non-Dragon Ball men I wanted to model myself after still got called fags by philistines. Even Toriyama's style wasn't quite like Araki's early stuff, where men were huge hulking bricks of solid testosterone, because Toriyama's faces always had a soft cartoonishness to them. Now when people want to draw me I specify I want to be visibly AMAB but the two examples I use are a really clocky cis woman and icon of raw masculinity Chris Motionless.

So that's my experience growing up with a socially reinforced gender assignment.

*I don't consider myself non-binary because I see male as a flavor of girl in my case and not something separate

I was about to start reading your Little Beast fic, because, God, I wait a whole week to read the new chapter of kfak and just end up reading it all in one go 'cause I just can't stop once I start. But as I was saying, I just began Little Beast and realized you seem to read a lot, judging by all the beautiful quotes you put in the opening of every new chapter of kfak. I read the whole Richard Siken book just because of you (got blown away by the quote on chapter 16 and realized I had to read it all).

All this just to ask: do you have any recommendations of books that you love? Specially ones that somehow relate to your writing. I'd be delighted to get recommendations from you!

I actually read far less than you think I'm just very good at themes. Richard Siken is always a good choice but often what I am doing is googling quotes about a certain theme or feeling of the chapter! or for some of them a book or poem is features in the chapter so I try to steal a quote from that.

Always always always Richard Siken, but Poppy Z Brite is a HUGE style influence for me. Drawing Blood and Exquisite Corpse are some of my favorite books ever. Evening Crowd at Kirmsers by Richard Brown has been a great read while writing KfaK. While not very quotable it was a HUGE point of reference for perceptions of gender and sexuality during the 40's especially when it came to what was considered acceptable or not in terms of masculinity and heterosexuality.

-has started experimenting recently by getting more masculine with her dress and they've eventually settled on a more alt-ish flavor. She asks Akito for advice and to borrow his old clothes. An goes absolutely crazy for the "cool" side of Kohane, which then gets Kohane incredibly flustered and breaks the "cool" image she was trying to keep up in the moment. Haruka never passes up an opportunity to tease the lovebirds about this vicious cycle when they visit Weekend Garage.

-REPTILE SPECIAL INTEREST!! and arthropods special interest as well!!!!! she's always wanted to own a tarantula!!

-her anxiety used to be leagues worse when she was younger (especially combined with the hell that is autism sensitivities), to the point where she was homeschooled for a few years, so she's had a long-time therapist since late elementary school. she usually sees the therapist bimonthly nowadays. She is heavily considering dragging the rest of VBS by the scruff of their necks to book appointments with her therapist.

-kohane has a bunch of moles, freckles on her arms and cheeks, and naturally curly hair. she used to straighten her hair but An convinced them to let their gorgeous curls free

-minori and kohane often can be found making animal noises at each other, especially during study sessions. rodent squeaks are their favorite. shiho tries sooooo hard to resist the call of the Animal Noise Stims but she always gives in eventually and joins in.

nathan: cis guy, but hasn't thought about it that much tbf. mostly he/him, but okay with they/them or it/is in some contexts, especially when it makes him sound cooler

pickles: trans guy (it's a very important hc to me -- first popular transmasc hc in any fandom that didn't make me uncomfortable with the portrayals lol). he/him

skwisgaar: doesn't fuck with labels that much. people could say "so you're nonbinary?" or "so you're a gnc man?" or "so you're agender?" etc and he'll just be like "ja" to all of them. regardless of label, he's still gonna bone your mom. he/they mostly.

murderface: cis guy, but has thought about it a lot more than he's comfortable disclosing. maybe there's something about his need to protect his masculinity. maybe his need to draw attention to his own genitalia is his way of protecting himself from any doubts lingering in his mind. but that would mean he's thinking about it too much and he can't have that. lots of overlap with his sexuality issues as well. he/him.

toki: cis guy who has thought a lot about it, but came back to the conclusion that he's cis. however, this only made him more comfortable being gnc. i mostly like this because he's like the opposite of murderface in that regard and i imagine that would piss him off lol. i like them being gender foils. toki has what murderface wants, but can never let himself have out of fear of what it may unlock within him instead. no pronoun preference.

charles: cis guy. i have nothing else. navigating his sexuality is all the gender-related turmoil he can handle at the moment. he/him

magnus: cis guy, but on the topic of gender his reaction would probably be something like "yeah i would have fucked with he/they if i knew about that in my 20s, but i'm an old man now" and then he sighs sadly. he/him

melmord: i don't even know if i should put "cis" before guy. who even knows anymore. i don't even know if he uses labels. his gender is whatever gender it takes to close this deal. i did draw him post-phallo tho, but idk what his exact identity would be. he/him or they/them.
