She was a familiar. Delwyn’s eyes widened, the puzzle pieces finally clicking together in his mind. The smell of magic on her fur, her odd little bag, her peculiar demeanor… it all made sense now.

Nightshade asked him a question. Delwyn blinked, inwardly shook himself back to his senses, wiped all traces of surprise from his face, and gave the other a casual smile. “Oh, I wouldn’t know. Not an expert on the subject, myself.” He always preferred knowing more about someone than they knew about him. It gave him an advantage, a detail to twist in his favor. The suspicion she was still hiding things nagged at him, but he decided not to dwell on it right away.

“Right,” Delwyn went on breezily. “Now that payment’s done, we can get on with the tour.” He picked up the collar in his mouth, padded back to the tree, and tucked it into a crevice between the roots for temporary safekeeping. Then he turned back to Nightshade and tipped his head toward her in a mock bow. “I leave the first choice to you, miss. Would you like to begin in the town, or the fields?”

Whoops! A simple slip-up, Nightshade 'tsked' herself in her head. She decided it wasn't time for her to reveal all of herself just yet. She would see how long she could keep the game going.

"He's the only one who understands me!" In a manner of speaking, it wasn't a lie. "He's not the kind that makes silly sounds an' stuff," she giggled, though it was hilarious to imagine her Samhain cooing at her while sounding all kinds of 'baby noises' like she'd seen other humans do. "Besides, I thought all familiars could communicate with their masters or mentors in some way? How is it any different?" she tilted her head to the side, genuinely puzzled.

She knew it wasn't common for familiars to be given human form and speak the human tongue (if they were regular beasties, that is) so she could understand half of Delwyn's confusion. But most familiars were non-human creatures so witches would find ways to communicate with them, whether it be via language spell or some sort of psychic link. But then again, Nightshade wasn't used to socializing with other familiars back in the Humanworld so it was possible some rules didn't apply.

hello everyone, the annoying spaniard is back to rant about the cultural references i'm seeing on my pokemon scarlet playthrough! here's my previous post in case you want to check it out :)

i have many thoughts about zapapico cause it's most likely based on almería and granada and my family is from there and yeah... anyways

the house design of that town, with them being excavated in the stone like that, is definitely inspired by the house-caves of guadix (granada) [pics 4-6], cuevas del almanzora (almería) [pics 7-9], and many others (those are just the ones i know about / been to). the sourrounding landscape reminds me of almería and its tabernas desert but, based on its location and the fact that there's another more likely desert in the other side of the region, i would say all of that area is based on los monegros desert (aragón) [pics 10-12], the other extremely arid area in the country.

and now i wanted to talk extensively (i'm sorry) about probably my favorite part of the game so far... team star poison squad.

to start, let's talk about the location. tagtree thicket is based on the oma forest in the basque country (i sadly forgot to take more pics of the location in the game so you only get this screenshot of my team before entering the base)

this might be a reach, but oddly enough i think it might be also at least partly inspired on sierra morena. i genuinely only got this connection cause at the entrance to the forest an npc (once again i forgot to take a screenshot of it) tells you to be wary of the forest, as the area is full of bandits and rascals and whatnot. that reminded me of the bandolero culture and the romantization of it, which flourished in sierra morena and other mountainous areas of andalusia. in particular there was a legendary bandolero called curro jiménez that got his own tv show (he was basically a spanish robin hood). there's even a cartoon in andalusian tv about a ragtag group of bandoleros with a bomb opening song. this is not actually too far off of the characterization of the leader of team star's poison team (my new favourite character ever)...

where to start with atticus?? (btw why is that his name in english?? in spanish he's named henzo which makes much more sense imo) let's start with the obvious: he's a ninja (which actually is an incredible design choice i'm kissing the pokemon team in the lips rn). but apart from that, everything else is heavily spanish inspired. basically, all of his persona is taken straight out of what's referred to as the spanish golden age (more or less the 16th and 17th centuries). i imagine his speech patterns and personality are an homage to shakespeare in the english version, but in the spanish one he speaks just like don quixote and actually has a lot of similarities to that character. for those of you who don't know much about don quixote, it is known as the greatest literature work in the spanish language ever and was written by miguel de cervantes (to help you situate all of this, he was a contemporary of shakespeare. in fact, in school we learn they died on the same day but on different calendars or something like that, it's a whole thing). in the novel, alfonso is a noble who spends all day reading chivalric romances to the point he at some points loses his mind and thinks of himself as a medieval knight that has to defeat evils and save people and whatnot. don quixote's speech patterns are mocked within the novel for sounding antiquated (just like atticus' speech sounds old for us). other direct references to don quixote are the fact that in the flashback the fairy dude comments on how atticus is a nerd of ninja and epic novels [pic 1], and the fact that during his presentation atticus says he is a 'desfacedor de entuertos' [pic 2], the same expression don quixote uses (it would kinda translate to 'problem solver' i guess?).

apart from don quixote, there's also references to playwright calderón de la barca, most noticeable through atticus' dramatic attitude (his first words are 'jumping to scene' [pic 1] and in his picture he is bowing to you [pic 3]), as well as one particular line after you defeat him where he says an extremely calderonian line [pic 2]

and that was all!!! sorry for the wall of text, i had many thoughts™️ for this one lol

💕 tell us about one of your favorite characters and why you like them:

hmmm ok rn, as anyone who follows my blog or fucks with me on discord can tell, I recently rewatched ALL of the lilo and stitch series and movies, even the bad ones (which is most of it if), and I really love pleakley! Mainly bc his cross dressing is played pretty straight. He’s def comic relief and the punchline is sometimes that he’s wearing a dress but usually it’s just a facet of his character that the other characters accept at face value. I love drag a lot, and I love it when cis ppl do it outside of drag settings, bc it sorta eases the harsh line for trans people. Just bc a dude wears makeup doesn’t mean he’s a woman; women=/= being feminine, wearing clothes associated with femininity, etc, and so the fact that he’s just clearly a gay guy who loves dressing like that is great, plus I love his influences (kevin McDonald doing drag in kids in the hall, Klinger from Mash) and a lot of queens he’s influenced (BIANCA DEL RIOOO, fuck ru Paul but he even cites pleakley too LOL). He’s also just stupid and cute and I love the limp wrist house wife trope like Albert in the birdcage.

💔 tell us about one of your LEAST favorite characters and why you dislike them:

Hmm ok, I used to be super into regular show in college. When I was like at my WORST point (skipping class to sleep, ignoring friends, not cleaning or doing work or anything but eating at 3am and walking around campus and tripping) I watched all of regular show and would screen cap really fucked up rigbys and post them on my old blog. I fucking loathe mordecai he’s the worst. He’s such a simp and such a whiny bitch and he has shit taste in everything, like such a great caricature of your typical art school dropout, but that’s all kind of funny and good. What seals the deal for me is that rigby goes through this arc where he sorta starts to get his shit together— like he gets his GED and stops being such a cunt to Eileen bc he realizes he can’t do much better (imo LOL) and mordecais not gonna stop simping for Margaret even when presented with more viable options etc. and he gets pissy about it, like he gets jealous and while it’s resolved within the episode I do think his character kinda regresses from that point. He doesn’t seem to learn anything or mature really. He seems to be sad that he’s not the ‘adult’ one in the dynamic anymore and misses being top dog in an already depressing, lose lose situation. This! Is all my speculation tho, bc the cartoon, while worthwhile imo, is like. Kinda shitty and the writing isn’t that complex plus whenever I would watch it I was just out of my mind regardless so. I think he sucks tho.

I’m really fucking into swash zone creatures rn. I was literally just at the beach and caught like five fish with my bare hands while swimming. And this isn’t the same kind of things as I listed from before but I looked at the sky and the sun was setting and it was orange. And I remembered: orange sky at night— sailors delight. Orange sky at morn, sailors be warned! And so I swam back to shore and looked it up and it’s TRUE orange skies at night reflect the air quality; the setting sun’s light bounces off water vapor and atmospheric particles so that only the longest of the wavelengths (reds) really makes it through this process— meaning there’s a lot of particles in the air if you see red! At sunset this signals stable air, a high pressure at this time of day is normal and will correlate with pleasant weather typically. Moreover, weather systems generally move westward within the mid latitudes (30-60 degrees, and hence the wind currents being referred to as the westerlies, aka the trade winds) which is important when considering why an orange morning can mean that the weather may turn sour later in the day. The high pressure conditions are already on their way out if a sunrise lights up the sky that much; the air could have a high water particle content to only let through the reds, and so a low pressure system may well be on the way. I took a meteorology class in college it wasn’t a hyper fixation but this was the only thing I could think of that wasn’t related to like production trivia for lilo and stitch or ren and stimpy or kids in the hall or who framed Roger rabbit sorry. But hey now you know.

Somehow, Collin hears them. Silently, she rolls up her sleeve, and Rowan feels the Collin Sutherland they knew is somewhere far, far away. The tattoos are black, geometric in design, two on each arm, and eerily similar to the ones Rowan has just discovered on their own left arm. They're sure if they were to roll up their right sleeve, they would find more.

"I should have told you a long time ago," Collin whispers. "I didn't know you were a part of it, but I should have guessed. I didn't want to put you in danger."

"I'm not- I don't- in danger of what?"

The waves crash onto the shore, and in the distance, a seagull cries, sending Collin into action. She grabs Rowan's hand and starts pulling, dragging them back behind the house.

"Come on. We don't have a lot of time, we have to get going. I can tell you everything on the way. I don't know why he brought me here instead of straight to the veil, damn it-,"

"Wait!," they say, wrenching their hand out of her grasp. "Just- stop! Where are we going?!"

Collin's eyes flash bright, despite the lack of sunlight. "Home."

OMFG okay,,, wait do you mean full names?? POV characters as of rn are Collin Aisling Sutherland, Rowan Tilley (doesn’t have a middle name) and Avery Bristol Charter. then the next most important one is Isaac Michael Rosewell, even though he’s the antagonist. then the side characters that are still very featured are Noah Rosalyn Pratten, Reese Iseul Radley, and Sage Emarosa Delgado. THEN we get into the very very side characters, Willa Robinson and her son August Robinson. then we have Avery’s parents, Alaric and the late Octavia Charter. and thennnnn we have Beldane Moreno, Avery’s uncle and Collin’s grandfather (undecided abt that last name but going w it for now). i promise it all makes sense. i promise anfnfsjnfdjsfd

i’ll give this one to Collin, she is a musician! Avery’s mother always taught her music before The Accident (dun dun dunnn) and after Collin was abandoned in the Nigh she threw herself into music. she plays guitar mostly, but she secretly loves piano the best out of every instrument she knows

OOF. im so bad at summaries why would you do this to meee abfhshjbsbshfjsbf. “A determined believer wants to return to a home that never wanted her. Almost 4000 miles away, an incisive, intellectual outcast of a dreamer muses over getting out of their hometown. And infinities away from them both, a teenage revolutionary disappears into thin air, on his way to bring back his past and fix his (and everyone’s) future.”

Is there a romance in your WIP and did you plan it from the beginning?

yes! there are three! they are definitely a main focus of the plot, but not THE main focus. Reese and Rowan were definitely planned from the beginning. Collin and Noah were, too, but they weren’t originally enemies to lovers, and they are now (hehehehehe). and Isaac and Avery were DEFINITELY not planned from the beginning. in fact, Avery was originally paired up with Sage, but it’s literally so much better this way and i’m so glad it’s been changed. Isaac and Avery has been planned since about when Isaac’s character was thought up, one year into planning WTCMTS.

What genre(s) is it?

a mix of dystopia and urban fantasy. and it’s YA, borderline NA because some of the characters are 19-20, but i still think YA is appropriate because of the style of writing.

What’s the aesthetic of two of your characters?

fun question! Collin’s aesthetic is very emo-punk, with a splash of yellow towards the end of the series. piercings, blue hair, rips on clothing, dirty converse, smudged eyeliner, safety pins. the yellow comes in as part of her character arc, as she learns to accept that her childhood memories are tainted and not actually perfect utopia. Rowan is way more minimalist (sometimes). they’re into the bookstagram type aesthetic, and mom jeans with sneakers, jean jackets, plants against a white wall, colorblocked windbreakers, rain against a car window.

When did you start your current WIP?

WTCMTS was started in august of 2017

still worldbuilding, unfortunately, for personal reasons

you’re not heterosexual. no one around you is. no one is cisgender either. where are they? no one knows.
