You know I love the classic cultural misunderstanding trope but consider my favorite alternative:

Bilbo knows EXACTLY what Thorin is doing but Thorin is too embarrassed/prideful to say it outright so they start playing relationship chicken where bilbo really emphasizes being JUST FRIENDS while doing explicitly relationship-coded things in terms of both dwarf and hobbit culture in an attempt to get Thorin to break and call him his boyfriend already

Cause bioware released some game stats for veilguard and apparently 72% of players redeemed Solas which is like. Okay yeah the game kinda pushes you towards that. But when I think of all the shit I used to have to put up with just for enjoying Anders like at all and…

(This is not me being anti-Solas, I do not care if you love or hate him, but I am gonna say what he’s done is like. Objectively worse than literally every other companion so lmao. And that’s fine! You can still enjoy him! I’m not saying you can’t and it’s important to me that people understand that! I’m just saying he did in fact do objectively morally worse things in game than Anders did and I don’t think that’s really debatable. And I can’t really make my point here without saying that but I do want to make it clear this is not some moral condemnation of Solas enjoyers cause it’s not)

Getting anon hate on the regular, being told “oh you’re allowed to like Anders as long as you regularly talk about how much he sucks”, people gleefully describing how much fun they have killing him ON your posts about the fact that you like him, the devs making jokes about shitty fates for him when fans asked innocent questions about him, the absolute audacity of his writer to say half the shit she did in interviews (about bisexuality and mental illness, most critically), and then being beaten over the head again in inquisition about how Anders is the worst character to ever exist and there’s no redemption for terrorists who lie to you one time in the entire game and he deserves death or worse and that’s it

And now… 72% of people are down to redeem the guy who lies to you for 2 games straight and who did a lot of questionable things that includes creating the fucking blight and. Like. I guess I’m glad that Solas fans can live in a world where they aren’t constantly harassed and can give their ship like. A pretty damn good ending all things considered. And that the devs love Solas and actually give the option for that happy ending and have characters go to bat for Solas throughout the game and the most annoying thing they have to see are people making scrambled egg memes. I would not wish anyone to have to deal with the shit Anders fans had to put up with back then cause it sucked. It really sucked. And I’m glad it’s not being repeated with a different character, if nothing else

But like. Man there really is a difference when the writers actually like the character who does the thing, huh

For as much of a raging, misogynistic monster Jimmy is, especially towards Anya-- sexually harassing her, treating her with no respect, constantly belittling her and her work and worth, being generally extremely inconsiderate, ect-- I never really got the impression that he hated her, surprisingly. He absolutely resents her for the pregnancy he forced on her and envisions it as a monster out to hunt him down, sure, but he still included her in this delusional fantasy of a happy birthday celebration. In his mind, she's shown as encouraging and adoring, referring to him as their Captain Jimmy, showering him that recognition and reverence he always wanted. It's interesting, because given how he acts towards her, you'd think she'd be more silent and out of the way-- or better yet, not included at all considering how hard he tried to block her from his mind in comparison to Daisuke, Curly and even Swansea during the guilt sequences. But she is included, and not at all in a negative light.

To me it doesn't really seem he hates Anya personally as much as he hates everything she means for him. For as little respect as he has for her, he seems fine around her in general. He doesn't really seem to mind her when she fawns over him, when she exists in their group as an active member, because I imagine those traits about her wouldn't be present here if he did. He doesn't really mind thinking about Anya, her being on his mind at all-- until he has to confront what he had done to her, the consequences of his actions, the way her pregnancy would negatively affect him and how he should feel guilty and owe her an apology more than everyone else. Then all of sudden she's physically nowhere to be seen, the memory of her banished to the darkest corners of his fractured mind-- suppressed and buried, where he'll never have to think about her again.

In this celebratory delusion, she's allowed to exist. In the guilt sequences, she is not. Her absence has nothing to do with her and everything to do with him.

people are pointing out that cater has a crown on his cheek instead of a diamond, how he's almost certainly the dorm leader in his dream, and talking about how he could actually be based on the king of hearts and while i agree that makes sense i also find it kind of funny because:

cater himself has directly compared TREY to the king of hearts before. trey the king of hearts holds less authority than riddle the queen, and is extremely reluctant to rock the boat and go against riddle's the queen's decisions, but is also the only one who's able to keep her him tempered and change her his mind when he's willing to stand up to her him. but again, i can see the argument for cater being inspired by him + he's the one with orange hair like the king of hearts, and he's more goofy like the king of hearts is. i just think it's pretty clear that trey has that as part of his character and the idea that they're both the king of hearts in some way is very funny to me for some reason askgjdfhf

it’s so wild to me when people talk about Armand and Louis’s dynamic as if since Armand is a lot older then Louis he always has the upper hand and Louis can’t “really” hurt him, like 💀it’s not like Armand was severely tortured his entire childhood and treated like a slave who was incapable of being anything other then an object his entire adulthood until he was eventually kidnapped and indoctrinated into a cult where he was beaten and starved and tortured into compliance, all of this forcing him to believe that there is no existence for him that doesn’t include submission to the greater power. wow it’s not like Armand isn’t capable of understanding or fully comprehending any of the things he’s experienced throughout his long life because he has been so severely traumatized that he can’t remember 80% of his existence and has regressed to a point bcus of his upbringing where he starts to panic and loose his shit if he doesn’t have a daddy/master to take care of him and to submit to bcus if he doesn’t have someone there telling him what to do he’s nothing. It’s not like this means that Armand will do anything to not be abandoned bcus he literally can not live independently. It’s not like Armand’s age only says anything about his physical strength bcus hes the most lost, learned helpless, confused and fumbling character in the series and he has learned nothing from anything he has been through. But yeah for sure, Armand is older so he always has the upper hand and Louis hurting him doesn’t mean anything cuz Armand can’t be hurt haha he’s too strong. Seems legit. Armand is old so he isn’t capable of being extremely emotional vulnerable and Louis is young (over 100 yrs old) so he’s not capable of recognizing a vulnerable person and taking advantage of that vulnerability for his own gain (it’s totally not like his job as a mortal was doing exactly that). Ten out of ten nuance and complex analysis guys the old one is powerful and the young one is weak thanks for that stunning show of media literacy 👏👏

i was sort of wondering why exactly i've been sympathising with Eva so much, apart from, admittedly, bias- i did start considering that due to that, maybe i'd been internally exaggerating how Wolfgang & Co had been treating her. but i replayed some of Chapter 1, and honestly? now i'm of the opinion that Eva was justified to be afraid of Wolfgang, even if what she did in response was inexcusable.

because it wasn't just that Wolfgang told the others to be wary of Eva (and Damon) which caused them to feel othered. consciously or not, he literally attempted to control their movement on at least two occasions- when he attempted to stop them joining in on the exploration of the pharmacy, and then when he demanded to know where they were when they reached the dining hall last.

in his defence, i don't think Wolfgang was being malicious in doing so, i reckon he did genuinely believe he was protecting the others. but in doing so, for the two members of the group he disagreed with, he actively attempted to further restrict their freedom- in a situation where they're all already trapped!! i'm not surprised that Eva, with frustration, mentioned during the trial how much she'd been watched and suspected- multiple times, if i recall correctly. of course it got to her.

but that probably wasn't even the scariest part for her. it was probably just how easily Wolfgang had taken a leadership role within the group and how willing they were to listen to him without question. only Diana really spoke up against him on one occasion and got him to begrudgingly "allow" Eva and Damon to tag along. i mean, on that note, the fact that Wolfgang even casually commented that he wanted group decisions to be allowed by him, following the minor incident of Desmond taking initiative and checking the room locks, was extremely alarming!! like i mentioned, i don't want to villainise Wolfgang, but it does seem like he has the tendency to be rather controlling, whether or not he realises it. i would be willing to bet that the herd mentality implication was done completely on purpose, considering that Wolfgang's animal motif is a sheep and the writing team have done the symbolism in the game so well.

for all this, i can understand Eva's point of view. i know that, as Wenona had mentioned, there's a chance that Eva didn't actually feel threatened by Wolfgang, but i personally am willing to give her the benefit of the doubt. because if she was honest about being on edge, that would be a rather reasonable emotional response, in my opinion.

what else are you to feel when you're at odds with an honoured individual who effortlessly holds the power to turn so many others against you too and potentially put your safety at risk, if not terror?
