A little self-indulgent BG3 crossover with Arcane. A young Karlach (say 18-20 or so - still has both horns and her own heart) chats with another bodyguard (Sevika, as of the beginning of Act 1 - still has her arm) while their bosses (a younger Gortash and Silco) hash out a weapons deal. Sevika knows a thing or two about loyalty (even if she's not fully been acid tested, yet), and something about the vibes here are rancid. She's in no business to worry, but that tiefling would do well to have a little less blind faith.

Despite that, the deal goes off without a hitch (although the bodygaurds have to knock some flaming fist heads in to maintain secrecy - but that's normal.) These two do annoy the hell out of each other in the process though:

Not exactly sure what they're trading, but for an arms merchant and a crime lord, there's always business to be done.

I love the idea that Gortash and Durge embraced each other's stunted inner child and bickered constantly, but also had a lot of fun teasing and going on adventures with the best friend they never had.

This other abused/neglected child can take whatever I dish out, dish it back, and also laugh about it? They won't ever judge me for being horrible, and in fact, want to bully the entire world together? They think I'm cool and impressive and ALSO enjoy robbery, medical torture, and world domination schemes? We should be best friends allies!

I was thinking about how childish Gortash can be sometimes (kicking tav/durge in the shins if they whack him, "not if I kill you first" to Karlach, etc.) and initially, that seems odd for a man you would assume would want to keep a more dignified air

And then I thought maybe that's something he picked up from Raphael (aka Mr. "Listen here, pipsqueak"). Or maybe is a result from him not being able to really mature emotionally growing up in HoH. Maybe both.

Gortash tries to appear dignified and all but the little cracks in the foundation show he's just a little traumatised, childish boy.. There is absolutely no shot he developed any sort of emotional maturity during HoH. Most likely his development got stunned, if anything, so he feels everything at 100% like a child would. He's just gotten super good at hiding it.

Bc he absolutely gets so mad over someone, say, getting his name wrong by accident. A Banite not "kneeling right" when he passes by. A random citizen just looking at him "the wrong way." He doesn't show it in the moment but he's biting his pillow at night about it and sending assassins to punish whoever he hates. I just bet he's petty and petulant and childish af.

What if Gortash's affair with Lady Jannath (not the one we meet in Act 3, we're talking about her mother) wasn't just sexually manipulative racoon man antics? What if he enjoyed a sincere affair with an older woman who filled the mommy-issues shaped void in his heart?
