my hot take about descendants is that NONE of the core four were ready for a relationship until maybe like, the third movie (rant in tags)
#they were still adjusting to living life without struggling to survive#a girl should not be jumping into a relationship the same week she just tried her first piece of non-rotten food lol#thats not to say I don't like the canon ships#but mal married literally the FIRST man she met in auradon. at 18.#and even as far as in descendants 2 we see them still struggling to adjust in different ways (mainly mal)#in d3 they seem to have fully assimilated into life in Auradon (as much as a VK can anyway)#so it makes sense for them to THEN seek out relationships if that's what they want.#but disney ofc wanted to act like romantic love just automatically fixes a person's problems ig?? as if a relationship wouldn't just be#added stress given the position the VKs were in in d1#not to mention dating just like. wasnt a thing on the isle (mal even says this)#and I get that the kids are craving to be loved because their parents didn't gaf about them. But I wish the first movie focused more on the#finding that love in each other than romantically with outside people. a sort of “they had love in them all along” moment.#and then this fandom loves to argue about whether Jarlos/Janelos was 'rushed'. at least Carlos (and Jay +lonnie) waited a few months before#throwing themselves into the dating scene. Poor evie had her heart broken within like 3 days of being in Auradon. no wonder she was willing#to help steal the wand lol.#Anyway to wrap up this rant I didn't even mean to go on#I just think that kids who have spent the first 14-16 years of their lives fighting to survive and being put through continuous trauma on a#daily basis don't need dating right away. they need THERAPY.#if anyone here has seen stranger things its kinda an El and Mike situation were its like. the girl grew up in a lab and fell for the first#boy in regular society who was kinda nice to her lol. thats how I view Mal and Ben#same with doug and evie. he was nicer than chad but he still fell for her for her looks and she still fell for him because he was the first#guy in auradon to be genuinely interested in her. also evie had a whole “I dont need a prince” arc and ended up with a man anyway?#my problem with janelos was always that Carlos never quite worked out his mommy issues or his anxiety. I feel like he'd be afraid of hurtin#her even though that boy wouldn't hurt a fly. and we see Jane get pretty stressed out herself- have you ever been in a relationship where#both of you have anxiety? cause it either goes really well (you help keep each other calm) or REALLY terribly (you make each other spiral)#I actually really liked Lonnie and Jay (though I feel like it would've had a bigger payoff if she was in d3. not sure why she wasn't but I#wont dunk on that because it couldve been smth to do with her actress). I think Lonnie is someone who can 'handle' Jay well and match his#energy. And I like the idea of Jay finding someone he's loyal to after being commitment-phobic for 1 1/2 movies and the whole first book lo#and ofc I have to throw this in here: any auradon kid the VKs get with is never going to grasp even half of what they went through.#this doesnt mean they can't try to understand and be empathetic. but it will always cast a shadow on VK/AK relationships.

Posting this right after the mlp and total drama crossover drawings
Anyway i think clydes self worth issues are really interesting and how its an entire neurosis that feeds off of him, making it hard for him to accept love given to him, being loved turning into guilt.

What are your thoughts on James and Leah/Lucas. I get annoyed by James and I can only hope their relationships get better.
Yeah he doesn't seem like the most likeable character, especially after the way he abused Lucas. I haven't watched any of the ste/james arc other than their wedding, so I can't really get why ste likes him so much. It's hard when their relationships have also been strained with Ste, there is little chance for them to act like a proper family unit.
If Ste does go to prison (a big if) then I hope that James steps up and acts like a proper dad, even if he is a bit of a nightmare.
It also doesn't help that those kids have had a lot of step-dads and none of them have lasted very long (and three of them have died)
It would be interesting to see him being an actual dad to them, but I wouldn't pin my hopes on it, considering everything that has come before.

Something to while away the hours (P1 | P2 | P3) (Patreon)
#Doodles#Law Abiding Citizen#LAC#LAC Russ#Doug Peterson#Roug#This was all just a setup to draw them kissing wasn't it? Nooooooo (maybe)#As if I need an excuse lol#As if I don't already draw them all over each other even without a smooch!#I wasn't kidding on indulgence! Be mean to Russ and a bit of Roug to round things off :3c That's what I wanted!#He stagnates easily ♪ He and Doug need entertainment! The sights!#It's probably been more than just a couple days by this point and he's really just a ''normal'' guy and Nobody does well in solitary#Not even a question on whether or not he'll touch him anymore - and it's not like Doug minds - he just needs some kind of contact#Also maybe throwing in a fun maybe-headcanon about Doug's physiology lol - would he have a heartbeat? Maybe not!#I think it'd be spooky :) Or if he faked a heartbeat just for Russ to listen to ah <3#I really like Doug's hand on his cheek as well ah it's very sweet#Big hands ♥ Comforting and warm#The setup was meant to be something like - if Doug isn't joining him on adventures he's kinda limited on what he can actually do#So he'll pop in as often as he's contractually allowed to - almost certainly no more than once a day but maybe less if you prefer :3c#So he's quite literally asking Russ what he's supposed to do - he's only supposed to help Russ see the sights! He has limitations!#And Russ needs human(? intelligent) contact more than anything - and it's not like they're exactly subtle lol#This just moves things along a little quicker than it might otherwise :3 Oh no there was one bed (solitary confinement chamber)#Besides it's a gamble - maybe a kiss will help or maybe it will just leave him longing! Who knows!

minx is interesting. It’s interesting and it’s interested in things in a way that I find a lot of current media about feminism not to be. There’s an active interest into poking into some of the uncomfortable areas without simple conclusions when it comes to how feminism should relate to sex and the market/capitalism.
also really appreciate the unapologetic 70’s ness and the use of 70’s events, catchwords, buzz etc in a way that doesn’t always feel tee hee
#Like idk if it always comes to the Conclusions but is really interesting to see a show which is ABOUT feminism and what it actually is#With imperfect people#What does it /mean/ to make something feminist and what does it mean when that thing has to be sold#There’s a couple moments so far that are like well this would blow someone’s mind off#It’s interesting to chew on relative to Daisy jones lol#I’m not going to say it’s anti capitalist but it’s also not that type of subliminal capitalist fantasy show#That just ignores the demands of capitalism to write off a world for the people who’ve already won#Very much almost in Convo with something like the bold type or classic sex and the city for that#Like the whole second episode thing with the ads#the ads unapologetically sucking and being soooo sexist#And upper class country club goer white feminist Joyce /also/ being extremely confined mentally to sexist advertising#Like I hate the edible panties. U know what’s great? Shampoo and makeup#And Doug mentioning that if they /don’t/ advertise the cost of the magazine will go above most people’s ability to pay for it#Like. It’s a show Thinking about a lot of this#I think Joyce is so interesting because she’s both so much more radical and so much more flawed than a lot of the /girlboss/ characters out#There. She’s the rare example of an upper class white feminist that I think the narrative is aware of the class part at least#And she’s flawed and kind of mean and totally out of it#And also like. 5000% more radical than a lot of the the equivalents#Like she isn’t trying to publish Feel Empowered with Sexy Lipstick articles#She’s trying to publish articles about birth control marital rape and abortion access#And her issues often come from where the radicality of her vision is being compromised by praxis#Like that’s so interesting

wolf 359 is not a horror story, it's got the average amount of horror elements you would expect from sci-fi, and this is a good thing for eiffel, who is very, very determined not to end up a horror protagonist. (for all the good that effort did him in time to kill, but...)
like he's genre savvy enough to know where these things go. he opens a crate of eyeless russian dolls? hm. creepy. no thanks! puts the lid back on and puts it out of his mind immediately. heard a weird noise? think you should investigate? no you didn't! no you don't! consider hiding in the nearest available hole in the wall instead.
eiffel is careless in so many ways, he thinks he's not concerned about his own well-being... until his safety's even a little bit threatened, and then his survival instincts kick in to an insane degree. his pride has never once outweighed his cowardice and this has probably saved his life. but the other thing about eiffel is that, despite his surprising amount of common sense, no one ever listens to him for it. he's the guy telling everyone not to split up or go in the spooky basement as they leave him alone at the top of the staircase.

ok i don't know WHAT kind of brain fart I had but I've been thinking today marks 6 months since I started shipping with Bob... IT'S NOT SIX DLSKJFKSF IT'S EIGHT 😳😳😳 8 MONTHS!!!

#(sorry there's basically a freaking diary entry in these tags damn) (needed to get my thoughts out ig lol)#i really am so grateful for him and doug. which i get could sound really silly to ppl outside of this community lol#but they've helped me through the past 8 months and have made me smile even when in the worst moods :'3#even putting the selfshipping aspect of it aside they just make me happy !!#i honestly CANNOT believe its been that long already though... time has freaking FLOWN by since sept#but actually thinking about it in that way makes me oddly motivated? like that post abt how#'the time will pass anyways.' like i could have done A LOT in those 8 months but... i didn't 🧍‍♀️BUT#there's 8 more months right ahead of me to make use of. like i've been really wanting to learn music theory and production#and im scared bc of how much time it will take. but I started studying a few days ago... and in 8 months i'll have 8 months of experience#idk it's just a comforting thought#like maybe even just in 4 months on the one year bobiverssary (lol) i'll be able to look back on today#and be like WOW i learned SO much since then and made so much music etc. just need to manage my time better all around.#bc of course i also need to do my actual JOB aka finish my next novel and prep for selfpub#cause i'm excited but not nearly ready 4 when my current contract ends. idk if it'll get renewed or not but i'm cool w either outcome 🧘🏻‍♀#UMMM. i didn't expect to ramble that much LMFAO sorry i was caught off guard by the passage of time ! 😳#peanut butter and jelly donut#caitiechat

10. What are your future plans?
13. All of pets you’ve ever had
22. Your plans for summer
26. What language do you want to learn?
41. Are you happy with where you live?
✨✨✨ please and thank you 😁
10. What are your future plans?
I really don't know. This past year in the new teaching job was really stressful, and if next year is anything like that... well, I don't know that I want to continue with this job. It seems like I could pivot to tutoring full-time without much of a problem - but that carries all kinds of disadvantages around insurance and taxes, and it is more uncertain.
13. All of pets you’ve ever had
Three dogs: one who preceded me and passed when I was literally a toddler (so I don't really remember them); one from when I was in middle school to college, a beagle who would run off after anything; and one from my mid-20s to late-30s, a black lab mutt who loved snuggling and who also wound up absorbing a lot of our neuroses.
22. Your plans for summer
I have nothing concrete; right now I'm just slowly trying to set right all the stuff that went sideways during my bad spell last month. I'm doing some tutoring, I'll probably try to sneak in a short vacation or two, and getting the house sorted has been a checklist item for... seven-and-a-half years now. Nothing remarkable.
26. What language do you want to learn?
French has always been top of the list, even if the original reason isn't valid anymore. I don't suppose I'd change it as the choice, though.
41. Are you happy with where you live?
Hmm. I think it might be more accurate to say that I'm very attached to where I live? I suppose I'm happy enough - I've never seriously imagined living elsewhere (and at this point I almost certainly don't have the financial means to move).
I value my community, and I try to help it out with my work and my custom; I like knowing where everything is, and having long-time favorites.
On a tighter scale, I think it's a pretty nice house, in a reasonably good spot. I wish I could feel comfortable going for a walk or a bike, but the road is too busy and not designed for that (in my opinion). The yard is a source of stress because I don't trust myself with plants and I hate cutting things down - but it's also very nice at the same time, as I get deer stopping by, plus a nice variety of birds, and rabbits, possums... used to get turkeys, but I haven't seen any in a long while.

i think it's bc its straight up just not that scary. and i dont mean that in a bad way! i love dark deception dearly, and i love what it does, but the focus is definitely on pacman-esque gameplay rather than really trying to scare you.
tldr: dd just isn't as scary as a lot of other horror games bc there isn't much dread, that's on purpose, and it's absolutely good for what it is.
sure, if you get surprised by agatha teleporting behind you or a gold watcher just being There around a corner, youre gonna be a spooked. but it doesnt try to make you Dread the enemies in the same way as, say, outlast or resident evil. like they build up an atmosphere, a tense one at times, but not one that makes you dread to move forward. thats why the whole thing at the end of mascot mayhem hits so hard, its the first time the game really makes you feel afraid what's ahead of you through the near-complete darkness and use of sound+small lights that dont reveal much to lure you on.
of course i may be a Very biased source, horror just kind of bounces off me unless they go in very hard - not in a badass way, in a "local man accidentally totally desensitized themselves to horror imagery bc they just thought it was neat" way. but we KNOW glowstick entertainment would not have an issue if they really were trying to scare the shit out of you: nixson is doing the coding, and he made joy of creation, and joy of creation is scary as shit. it builds dread through environment and sound, it creates enemies you really fear rather than just obstacles. sure, nothing could really be like The Corridor (you know the one) but dark deception being not even slightly as pants-shittingly terrifying makes it very clear that the lack of dread is on purpose.
and i think this lack of dread is good! dark deception may have a very horror-themed set dressing, and uses a lot of references to popular horror settings/media, but the ganeplay itself doesnt really try to be scary beyond the inherent conceit of being chased and jumpscared if you die. it's tense, but in the way that makes you think tactically rather than the way that makes you panic. or that might just be me haha
anyway yeah im a very biased source but i do love this game, it's very rare to see a game that adores its references so much while still doing its own thing. it's not ripping off anything besides maybe pacman, and the first-person perspective makes them play quite differently anyway - it's at least a little more threatening to not know where the enemies are, and makes you plan differently. and the spooky setting dressing is fun, sue me
