Absolutely, but probably not immediately or through his own initiative.

The first few years after the Comet are spent housecleaning the Fire Nation Imperial Government and rebuilding international relations. I imagine the Gaang flying hither and yon trying to keep the war from restarting because everyone hates the Fire Nation (and like, with good reason, but not really conducive to world peace, y'know?), and Zuko himself is too busy trying to demilitarize his country and dodging assassination attempts to focus on such benign matters as educational policy.

Once things settle down, Zuko can now focus on the internal matters that have so far been neglected, and by now I imagine he has a somewhat less bloodthirsty government to work with. With the War Council mostly neutered and its funding cut substantially, departments such as Education can come into focus, and Zuko is careful to hire ministers willing to take initiative for the betterment of the people and the country. One of these ministers is a native of the Outer Island of Wei Jian, whose younger brother had sent her a letter the summer the war ended about a mysterious new student in his class who claimed that Fire Lord Sozin had actually ambushed the Air Nomads instead of fighting a standing army in honorable combat, and played the tsungi horn like a man possessed, and even threw a dance party in a cave outside of town and then disappeared without a trace! This minister, a lowly clerk at the time, had taken it upon herself to find out the truth about the Great Comet attacks, and in so doing made it her life's mission to rehabilitate the Fire Nation's educational content and policy. Being appointed to the Fire Lord's Education Council makes this minister's career, and after a crash course in YHL to ensure that she can understand her Lord, makes sweeping reforms in how Fire Nation children are taught, both in methods and content.

A few years pass, and after these reforms are settled into common practice, this minister, now fully fluent in YHL and delighting in being able to chat with the off-duty Yuyan Archers who continue to litter the Palace, gets the bright idea to propose the addition of Yuyan Hand Language to the available language courses taught at the higher educational levels (others of which include High Earth Court, Imperial Fire Tongue, and both Northern and Southern Water Dialects). This catches Zuko by surprise, and after some thought says that if our intrepid minister can get a curriculum approved by the Yuyan Tribe Elders, then he'll approve it. She does just that, shocking just about everyone, and within a few years of her proposal Yuyan Hand Language is added to the list of language courses at the secondary levels.

Within ten to fifteen years of the first class, Yuyan Hand Language is second only to Fire Common in languages spoken in the Fire Nation.

Harry and Lily's motivations and thought patterns can be said to be similar, though, even with how cruelly they were separated.

Harry did not have the chance to be raised by Lily, true. Personality is not solely shaped by genetics: also true. But Harry still shares Lily's stubbornness, cutting tongue, and her strong sense of justice. He shares her belief in the value of sacrifice, even when that sacrifice is personal, final, and has no guarantee of leading to the most ideal outcome. Like both Lily and James, like Sirius and Remus, Harry has no fear of sacrificing himself for friends and family—no fear of dying for what he believes in. He believes in doing things for the benefit of the many, even at his own expense.

This isn't because he's been "groomed" to be that way. It is an innate part of his character from the moment we first meet him in chapter 2 of book 1. It is a part of his character that is clear to characters like Albus, Sirius, Remus, and Severus without Harry ever having to express it in words. It's not an aspect of his character many people like that much, much less accept, but it is a distinct tie between Lily's character and Harry's.

The wizarding world has only a vague idea of who Harry is, and Harry is only infrequently bothered by their opinions of him. His strongest rejection of any role they might put him in is during year 5, when the general public's denial of Voldemort's return is literally threatening his life. But the Ministry and the general public don't have the slightest idea of who Harry is and what he's motivated by—ironically, very similar to many members of Harry's own fandom.

As for Lily's home life, we know that her parents adored her and she had a strong friendship with Severus. But we also know that all was not rosy (no pun intended) in her early life before she grew up and joined the fight against Voldemort. She and Petunia had a rocky relationship which only worsened the more Lily leaned into her identity as a witch. Her first best friend splintered off at some early point during their school years, splitting his time between her and a group of people who thought she was sub-human and a thief of magic. Of the other close friends she may have had, none seem to have outlived her, and she spent at least some of her last days on earth getting news of their deaths.

Lily does not get the screen time she deserves, and much of her behavior is left only to our speculation as fans. But Lily's words and choices in light of the few things we do know about her speak to a deep strength of character, an inflexible sense of right and wrong. Lily Potter is an altruistic woman who is able to empathize with others even without suffering a quarter of the harm that her son comes to experience once she is gone.

Harry was most certainly abused: neglected, treated as less than his cousin, left alone to handle problems no child should have to handle. But I'd argue that these things did not take away his sense of identity, or prevent him from having one; and that it's a common fanon misconception that Harry is either a beaten-down butterfly or a blank-slate everyman.

One of the thing many fans miss about Harry (despite how much his mistreatment is discussed) is that even with the way the Dursleys treat him, Harry does not bend or break before them. A different child might have been submissive, shy, obedient. They might have taken on some of the same ugly beliefs as their 'caretakers'. At eleven years old, Harry is and does none of those things. He is defiant. He is snarky. He is strong-willed, and extremely opinionated, and loyal—though he doesn't fall in line behind the first person with power or wealth or even a winning smile. As he matures throughout the series, these core traits mature with him.

The Harry who sends his friends away for help and decides to face Voldemort at eleven, knowing he will likely die, is the same Harry who goes in secret to face Voldemort at seventeen, knowing he will most certainly die. And he shares this choice, and the belief system it's based on, with the woman who threw herself in front of her killer, her son's would-be killer, and said please not Harry. Have mercy.

Harry Potter wasn't raised to be a soldier or a self-sacrificial lamb. Harry experienced criminal neglect in his early years and realized that no one was going to swoop in and save him when he needed help. He took that to mean that if he wanted something done, if he wanted to help others, he needed to do it himself. By the time he met with adults who did want to help him, and could have helped him, their hands were tied by murderous half-dead men and bureaucratic conservatist systems and discrimination and their own misconceptions of him and a million other things—and that cemented the part of Harry's personality that insisted he must handle things by himself.

And that, acting where others don't or won't, is a choice he makes on his own throughout the series. Harry has plenty of chances to run away from his issues, and a host of people who might have been glad to let him do it. But he doesn't, because he never wants to be a bystander. He never wants to be the type of person who turns his back on the suffering of others—like Wormtail, like the Death Eaters, like the Ministry of Magic. It is a trait he shares with his mother, who could have just as easily packed up and moved clear across the world when Voldemort started terrorizing Britain—but didn't.

Whether they are loved or hated by others, villainized or lionized, both Harry and Lily choose to make personal sacrifices to fight for what's right.

All this to say—I agree with the OP. Harry Potter is not James Potter and he is not Lily Evans Potter either. But I also believe Harry does have some of his parents' less obvious traits, traits which shine through in some of his most perilous moments and give him the strength to overcome his opponents. Still, Harry should NOT be written or interpreted as a carbon copy of either of his parents, because it was Harry James Potter alone who had the personality, the strength, the wisdom, and the selflessness necessary to destroy Voldemort.

Harry Potter is an extremely complex character who deserves actual deep analysis of his choices and character that aren't tied to what his parents said or did or how fans feel about his sacrificial tendencies.

I love parallels. I love people reminding others of those they've lost along the way.

But Harry Potter is not James . And that is so vital to his entire character.

When people see Harry, they see James. They see a James who sees the world through Lily's eyes. When they see Harry, they don't see Harry.

And that is so vital to his entire being. It's vital to how people see Harry. The people that didn't know James, see the Boy-Who-Lived.

The people who did, who were close to Harry, to James, to Lily. They see James and Lily Potter. They see the people who died, people they were close to, people they miss every day but will never see again.

Remus, Sirius, Snape, McGonagall.

At first, they see James and Lily. And then when they meet him - apart from Snape- they quickly realise he is anything but.

Harry is not arrogant, rich, spoilt. He doesn't have an ego, he doesn't play pranks, he isn't a chaser, he doesn't pick fights.

Harry isn't exceptionally bright at everything he does, he isn't inconceivably forgiving for those who don't deserve it.

He is not Lily and James.

When peole write Harry as a golden retriever, as effortlessly good at everything, they aren't writing about Harry.

Harry who grew up not wanted. Harry who grew up believing something was wrong with him. Harry who was forced into the wizarding world with no knowledge. Harry who is as stubborn as a mule,. Harry who is loyal to a fault, who forgives those he loves, Harry who isn't his parents.

He has traits of them, their anger, their ability to love, and much much more.

BUT Harry Potter isn't them. He isn't the 'best of them both' he isn't James or Lily or Sirius or Regulus.

Harry Potter is Harry. Just Harry.

And that is why he doesn't get along ith Snape. That's why McGonagall believes Harry dragged Neville out for a joke in first year.

When people see Harry, they don't see Harry. And by writing Harry as somebody else, or as 'so-and-so's child' you're not doing the character justice.

My Hero Academia vs Assassination Classroom: Becoming Teachers

Now I recently saw a post going on about how people dislike Deku becoming a teacher in chapter 430. And another user chalked it up to Westerners' disrespect for teachers vs Japan's great revere for them, plus shipping discourse

And while I feel that those definitely don't help, I do feel that that isn't the balk of why a lot of us hate it. It also reads as one of those elitist takes in fandom where they are talking down to those who don't agree with them

Now I'm a Westerner, and I hate Deku becoming a teacher. It's not because I don't respect teachers, and when it happened in Assassination Classroom I was all for Nagisa Shiota becoming a teacher. I would have preferred to see him and/ or Karma become assassins but I was still satisfied with how it ended. So why is that? Especially because we know Hori was a fan of Assassination Classroom, prototype Bakugou was based on Karma for crying out loud.

Achieved vs Happenstance

A big part of it is framing, everyone in 1A, 1B, and basically everyone else explicitly want to be heroes, or at least something adjacent to it. That's why they are in the hero course, and Izuku Midoriya especially has a one-track mind for heroes until the surprise reveal. He was constantly told no, pick something else, for a decade but was still hyper-focused on being a hero leading up to the show. Nor do we see or otherwise learn that he has other developing interests. There's a ton of fanfics and headcanons of him helping his classmates with school work or even just their quirks, but there's nothing in canon. The only character who does anything like that is Momo Yaoyorozu. The vast majority of 1A and once again especially Izuku Midoriya are only interested in being heroes. Izuku is also the only one who didn't become a hero (until years later) despite the need for them totally going down and them being paid per arrest.

Meanwhile, no one in 3E the end class, chose to be an assassin, Kuro Sensei just decided that he was going to teach that class, and the world needed him dead. A lot of students explicitly have other interests and none of them have a personal interest in being an assassin past killing Kuro Sensei. Yes, Nagisa Shiota is shown throughout to be surprisingly good at assassination work, and he is explicitly given an offer to join the world as an assassin. But when he gets the offer he asks himself do I really want to do this. We also learn via the little girl who suggests the career to him in the first place, that he has been tutoring her. We also get to see how he takes the uniqueness and skills from 3E into his teaching job.

So in short the premise of Assassination Classroom is much better suited to have it's characters enter very different fields to begin with.

Better Focus on Academics

Yes, My Hero Academia takes place largely in a school, but they don't put any focus on the school part. Whenever they're doing something in class it's either big combat test or self-directed training. And in the later seasons, more and more time got taken up by the big-name pro-hero fights. The two teachers we see the most of, both have bad teacher tags on Ao3 and I have seen numerous takedowns of their teaching skills accurately citing the series.

Assassination Classroom however has school and studying as a constant theme throughout the series. We see 1E being taught both standard school stuff, and learning various assassination techniques to achieve their goal. Kuro Sensei also makes it very clear that if they are just going to bank their futures on killing him and winning the money, then he sees no point in staying around for them to do it.

Getting it Regardless vs Earning Respect

One ongoing issue I have with MHA is that I largely got into the series because I thought that it was going to criticize societal issues. Instead, it ended up doing a 180. Now this mostly applies to the pro-hero worship, largely because once again there is barely any time dedicated to the actual academic part of the show. But with both the teachers and pro heroes their failures and shit behaviours aren't treated as reasons to lose respect, making any respect for them empty. This also leans into the very real issue of roles that come with unconditional respect, will attract people who will abuse it.

Meanwhile, 3E came into the show without this innate revere for teachers, because their past teachers especially in their school have actively screwed them over at every turn. Karma is even elated at the idea of killing a teacher after his last one betrayed him. Nagisa Shiota was being very blatantly abused at home, and Kuro Sensei is the first teacher to stand up for him. The teachers of 3E have to earn the students' trust and respect. When Bitch Sensei treats them like shit when she first joins, the students return the favour, she has to apologize for her poor behaviour for the class to give her a second chance. So when it ends with the students having a deep connection to their teachers and a renewed appreciation for school it's because that respect was fucking earned. Also, the principal who created this system set up 3E to be abused and sabotaged them every chance he got, got fired for his shit leadership aka actions have consequences. They also didn't feel the need to excuse the bullies shit behaviour either

So in one setting, we have authority figures constantly being shit but being revered anyway. And the other, where the respect has been lost and needs to be earned back, thus the respect they get has a much stronger foundation.

Side notes

Deku sucks at explaining, I've said it both on my main and AU blog, but Deku is horrible at explaining. One of the main aspects of teaching, and he sucks at it because he overcomplicates and goes off on tangents, plus mumbling. If it was just his thought process, it would be a mildly annoying but harmless habit, but he does it when talking to people

Also, Assassination Classroom has a way less bloated cast, allowing us to actually get closer to the characters.

(and again maybe its just my shit luck at finding fanfics), but thats not really the point. I’m not trying to start a ship war i promise i just wanted to explain my view before someone can in and said i hated gay people.

BUT ANYWAYS so yeah, the life series.

want is an understatement i NEED a lizzie win if theres another season. for a few reasons too. one of which is what martyn said about lizzie stepping in for pearl in limited life and how it was obvious that joel would know because they like are together in every universe (or something like that sorry I haven’t seen the clip in a while) but the point is, I feel like if both etho and lizzie were to win a life series, etho would be the one that was recognized as “joels soulmate” which technically makes sense due to all the others going off of double life, BUT

i feel like a lizzie win could be used for really good content and how despite joel and etho being soulmates in double life, lizzie will always truly be his real soulmate. and this is already shown by lizzie being canon in ever universe joel is in and vise versa (iirc) while etho isn’t.

anyways yeah idk if this really makes sense and like, idk if i really explained my thoughts well 😣

I understand there are aggressive shippers out there on all sides with ✨ ZERO ✨ emotional intelligence & can’t help themselves from being actual villains.

All that to say, the biggest difference between Elriel v. Gwynriel/Elucien is we do actually use canon with complete context & build upon that. Canon from multiple series most times. We’ve kept up with the story.. We actually understand the narrative THE AUTHOR is wanting to convey. It’s both.. iykyk

If Elriel’s actually follow cannon you’ll end up with chosen love (if Elain even gives him a chance after that BC), their powers don’t sing or dance for the other, Elain has a bond trailing her forever, & Az leaves Elain for his mate when his bond snaps (bc it’s canon he wants a mate bond. He straight up says he’s envious of RHYS & CASSIAN. Az, quite literally, waited 500 years for a MATING BOND to snap with Mor.).

It’s clear y’all don’t understand that Elain’s treatment of Lucien is NOT unique to Lucien as a character. She’d be treating Az the same way if that bond snapped in Hybern, the same way y’all don’t understand that Azriel’s visceral longing for a mate is NOT unique to Elain as a character.. the same way y’all don’t realize that if Lucien never said anything, y’all wouldn’t have your favorite scene of them sitting in the garden.

I’ve seen a few post lately saying we’ve read too many fanfics, have confused cannon, & that we’re envious of Elriel… that’s what’s prompted this rant lol… This take is rich coming from the ship that had fics with Azriel’s shadows playing/DANCING for Elain, only for that dream to be drowned in a muddy grave in chapter 60 & in the BC of ACOSF.. yet y’all still are out here trying to explain that away or try to spin it as a positive… An Elriel shipper had an artist commission them as Eric & Ariel. At first I thought that commission was supposed to be an uno reverse of irony & apparently it’s not, it was actually for Elriel month & intended to only have one level of irony… Who’s really envious & confusing canon here?

Never seen an Elucien post saying “Darn, I wish Lucien’s power didn’t come out when he was trying to get to Elain, I wish his power was absent around her like Az’s shadows. Shoot, I really wish Lucien didn’t give Elain incredibly thoughtful gifts for solstice & ask Fayre multiple questions about Elain so he could know her as a person. Really wish he didn’t fight his way through a battle field just to see Elain. Plume a dragon girl (plume, bloom you get the gist) who somehow ended up on earth is now tasked to find help to save her people and mother while also discovering the beauty of earth

Thea the daughter of an urban development company ceo and the love interest of muse (did i get myself this invested into a ship that i made it canon here… yes.) she’s a frail girl but is forced to step in as her fathers ideas turn from helpful to greedy and destructive

General housekeeping before I proceed with the Roast Fest

I want to make this explicitly clear: it is not my intention to hate on the artists themselves nor their art skills or anything along those lines.

Betsy Cola and Davi Go are both extremely talented and skilled artists. Support their work. Art is fucking hard and its even harder to actually get paid for it.

Betsy Cola is a queer Filipina and has an Instagram Page (but no online shop for prints). Lots of fun retro style (think 50s-60s-70s Pop Art)

Davi Go does have an INPRNT with lots of Marvel and DC Characters. Like nine different Emma Frost prints alone. A couple of lovely Laura Kinney and much more. For fine Art Prints, artists earn like 50% of the sale, I'm pretty sure.

I personally have no idea what goes into getting contracted to do any cover by Marvel, but I'm sure it was absolutely thrilling to get to do ANY work by a big company such as Marvel, where so many would get to see something I had made. I also have no idea how much an artist is told when they are contracted to make something. (Do they get told what it's for, or are they just given a generalized prompt? I truly have no idea)

I do know, that personally for me, doing ANYTHING of that caliber would be a dream come true. I've been reading comic books since I was five/six years old. While I only make shitty little fans arts and the occasional fanfic, if by some astronomical chance, I was offered to write or do a cover, I would absolutely jump on the chance. Or at least strongly consider it.

I am specifically critiquing Marvel's decisions as corporation to even come up with and sign off on something as obnoxious (and frankly, insulting) as "Pride Allies" for a variant series. Especially considering the overarching fact that historically Marvel has had its fair share of issues regarding its treatment of its queer characters -- lack of consistent appearances/storytelling, questionable treatment/writing choices, and blatant rainbow washing during Pride month to give a few generalizations (pick your favorite example, there's a lot). Sometimes its enjoyable to poke fun at company's ridiculous marketing ideas.

Much like the fact last winter they did a "Ski Chalet" variant series with skiing and snow activities, yet somehow didn't find an artist to do a variant of their ONE CANON OLYMPIC SKIIER.

But I digress.

In Summary: the act of creation is beautiful, don't be a douche canoe. Being punk is anti-establishment, not anti-people.

uhhh there’s a lot. thinking about it, probably the zb1 kidfic. or the if I stay au. I do want to go back to it eventually; I just don’t have interest in it right now due to a variety of factors.

I’ve been told my prose and characterization is pretty good! I do take pride in it as much as I question what the hell I’m doing sometimes.

as long it’s done well and respectfully? honorifics and such don’t have direct translations and sometimes if a character who speaks a different language is present, that might also work. it really depends on execution for me.

Specifically, I’ve been revisiting all my favorite time travel fics and my brain has not stopped bombarding me with ideas since.

All that to say that I’ve come to the Marvel fandom with an offering (If y’all are interested);

Summary

Tony Stark dies in Siberia. Perhaps that should’ve been the end of the story. A fitting final act for the villain of the story. The evil former war profiteer billionaire, finally brought down by the righteous Captain America. A man born in fire and blood, drowning in his regrets as the cold seeps through the cracks in the armor he’d been so proud of.

It should’ve been the end.

But it wasn’t.

No, Tony wasn’t getting off that easily. Instead, he wakes up in the cave, before the Civil War, before the Avengers, before Iron Man…

“Fuck this. We’re doing things my way now.”

(Full disclosure: This is going to be a series of works in the same universe. Which means I can split things up to help with pacing and motivation. Unfortunately, it also means my urge to hop around the timeline is a bit harder to control. As it stands, the only thing I have written for this so far is half of chapter 1, and then all 5 chapters of part, like, 7 or something. I wish I was joking)

A lil breakdown of the current arcs

Part 1: Iron Man 1 & 2 (Tony speed runs both of them while avoiding SHIELD like the plague. And, because the outline looked a bit empty, he went and stole Bucky from SHIELD in a valiant attempt to pretend he was even remotely emotionally stable)

Part 2: Avengers (Tony ends up teaming up with Fury’s little boyband in Manhattan, despite adamantly refusing the recruitment pitch. The Avengers are a sad group of depressed PTSD-riddled individuals that are very interested in pulling him into their family. Been there, done that, bought the t-shirt) (Tony also gets to shoot Loki in the face. Not sure if it’s canon that he was mind controlled, but it is here! So he’s free now, helps fight off the Chitauri cuz it’s already too late, and gives Tony the heads up about Thanos. In his weird, cryptic Loki ways, anyway)

Part 3: An Interlude (The Avengers try to pull this sad little billionaire into their club, while Tony tries to resist what he knows will end up becoming a disaster. Also- The Avengers get a SHIELD funded compound this time! Loki also gets stuck on community service duty for New York. And by community service, I mean Avengers duty. Ends with Tony finally attending a team dinner, tho he’s still not all the way there yet)

Part 4: Iron Man 3 (I’m still working out how Tony meets Harley again, because I love him, but shhhh. Anyway, the entire team, minus Thor and Loki who are off doing their Dark World bs, shows up during the Tony vs Killian showdown to help, and Tony is learning to trust again!)

Part 5: Dealing with Shieldra (Bucky’s already been liberated from their care, so no Winter Soldier movie. Instead, Tony has been systematically hunting them down now that he’s decided to place the blame of his parents’ murder firmly on Hydra’s head, not Bucky’s. It’s also made clear that while Bucky remembers his Winter Soldier days, he can’t really recognize the people beyond them being targets. So he doesn’t actually remember killing Howard and Maria Stark, because they’re just two more faces among countless other victims. So he’s free hasn’t realized he killed Tony’s parents, and Tony isn’t keen on bringing it up. It’s not super central to the plot yet, tbh, just something I wanted to note)

Part 6: Age of Ultron (To be clear, I hate the movie. Thus, I will be changing it. Tony didn’t want the scepter anywhere near his tech or JARVIS, sorry Vision, so after ensuring it wasn’t in danger of falling into Hydra hands, he let SHIELD take it. SHIELD, being SHIELD, ended up enlisting Dr. Hank Pym for research. Hank ends up creating a murderbot without Tony’s name on it, and Tony gets the closure that the Ultron fiasco really wasn’t all his fault like everyone else claimed. And then he goes after Ultron, because no way is he letting something capable of killing JARVIS stick around long enough to try. I don’t see how I can possibly work Vision into this tho, so until I do figure it out, he’s unfortunately a non-entity in this AU)

Part 7: Social Media Interlude (Lots of background info from previous parts, like what all Stark Industries was doing. And also Winteriron somehow happened. I have no idea how, don’t ask me. Mostly fluff, tho the footage of the Stark murders gets leaked and Tony gets to be the emotionally mature one in the group finally. Very fond of his lil “I’ve known about the murders since before I met Bucky, don’t harass him, he was the gun, not the shooter, etc etc” rant. He does have to wave away his knowledge with hacking Shieldra, which wouldn’t really work, but no one else knows that so shhhh)

Part 8+: I’ll let you know when I’ve figured out how Tony’s gonna handle outliving his past self in the other timeline. But it’ll go all the way to Infinity War/Endgame, dw

Fallout: Maximum

Concept art for a possible fanfic. A Trigun / Fallout crossover! Basic Setting Idea: This takes place on Earth, in North America, based largely upon the Fallout universe (games and TV series). I am having trouble figuring out a specific area (as my familiarity with the games is mostly in the East Coast setting games 3 and 4 and I have only played New Vegas just a little bit), but I am highly tempted to set this partly in Arizona (and thus in the series' commonwealth encompassing parts of California and Nevada). Arizona is where I grew up and ever since I learned that there was a scrapped game, Fallout: Van Buren, that was supposed to take place there, I was kind of excited. (Van Buren street! I know that area!.... *side eye* There's a reason why your character was to be an incarcerated criminal...

In the fusion-universe, Plants remain Plants. There was a project fronted by the United States government to engineer an efficient power source that would end America's dependence on both fossil fuels and the weird atom-punk direct harvesting of nuclear energy. A major problem was of course making it profitable, because late-stage Capitalism rules Fallout's pre-war North America in some of the most hilarious, yet horrible ways. It was done, though, by the secretive Project SEEDS - which had some relation to Vault-Tec, but, being its own separate thing, was spared the horrors that Vault-Tec did for sick funsies and had its own horrors to contend with. Independent Plants have the powers that they have in Trigun-canon, including their long lifespans, putting them at equal to ghoulified humans. They also, like ghouls, are pretty well immune to gamma radiation - except that it becomes clear that they are even stranger beings in the presence of it, as their Plant-markings will glow. this is a levi x reader x erwin fanfic that shook every part of me, body and soul. one of my favorites (i feel like im bout to say that to every fic i feature in today's cuppa hehe) that i steadily anticipated every update and cried when the last chapter was released.

shinzuoing, u absolute incredible writer. the antics between the three of them, between levi and reader, between levi and erwin, and between erwin and reader— brought this story so much life. a relationship that's so messy yet fulfilling, enough yet not, indenial but evident. god. with every chapter i always look forward to what these three will do next and how their story will play out during canon events of the show.

the intimacy between learning each other's boundaries and limits, all the while playing this back and forth juggle of feelings that they so desperately try to hide as they face imminent dangers of their world. its a steady build to developing trust and reconciling with prior conflicts.

you get constantly plagued with thoughts of "huh?!" "oh my god!?" "YES?!" "FINALLY?!" "NOOO?!?!?" the next thing u know ur pressing next chapter after chapter because u cant get enough of this incredible intense connection on these characters.

I've been part of a big discussion elsewhere about Rings of Power and the liberties they've taken with Tolkien's canon. As part of that, I posted this timeline (SA = Second Age, TA = Third Age).

To be clear, I don't particularly care about the timeline itself. I have never been one of those to say that nobody can change canon at all. In fact, I haven't seen anyone take that position. Here are some things that are fine with me, and AFAICT with most other hard-core Tolkien fans.

I welcome changes that improve representation of women (Arwen, Tauriel, Galadriel) or Black people (Arondir), gay people, whatever. Tolkien was a man of his time, but also a decent man. I believe that, had he lived longer, he might well have approved such changes or even made them himself.

I also don't mind if characters are omitted (Glorfindel and especially Tom Bombadil) or added (Adar) or given new names/identities (Halbrand, The Stranger) in ways that don't significantly affect the history of Middle Earth as already known.

I don't even mind some kinds of timeline changes. Should Elendil have been alive at the same time as Celebrimbor? Well, no, but it doesn't really matter.

What I do mind is changes that harm the narrative - either Tolkien's or their own or too often both. Some events have a cause-and-effect relationship, so reordering them leads to a nonsensical result. Some characters have thematically important natures, so putting them in situations contrary to that nature is also nonsensical. It's particularly crazy to be bringing in Third Age elements when the Second Age is already far too big and busy for a single series (what I consider to be RoP's "original sin" from which most others flow). Here are some more examples.

It doesn't make sense for Gandalf or Saruman to be in Middle Earth before the events that caused the Valar to send them (Sauron's Third Age rise in opposition to Arnor and Gondor).

Ditto for barrow wights in this time period (hinted at in teasers for episodes I haven't seen myself yet). The wights were canonically princes of Cardolan, reanimated and/or possessed by the Witch King of Angmar. Cardolan didn't even exist until the Third Age, and even in RoP's own timeline the Witch King doesn't (can't) exist yet, so again this makes no sense.

Portraying the Fall of Numenor before the creation of the rings is not only gratuitous (just an excuse for some CGI) but it's also going to make it very difficult to tell the full story - which BTW includes Sauron as a prisoner - later even in RoP's own timeline. I'd like to see that story, so that's a loss.

Having Tom Bombadil tutor Gandalf (also hinted at in spoilers) changes both characters into something else entirely. Gandalf was already thousands of years old and should need no such tutoring; his amnesia was already an unnecessary creation within RoP. Tom, to the extent that he's anything more than a last vestige of the Hobbit writing style, is an enigma intentionally placing himself above and beyond such worldly concerns. He is almost the anti-Istari so having him help one is just silly.

By making these changes, and many more, the RoP folks have made a muddled mess. It's the same mistake David Lynch made in his 1984 version of Dune, which was widely and rightly panned for ham-fistedly trying to cram much into too small a space. Amazon's changes not only do a disservice to Tolkien's canon, but they're degrading their own as well.

Another thing that infuriates me about this is the hypocrisy of the Tolkien estate. For decades, Christopher (Rot In Piss) and his successors have ruthlessly quashed any retelling of stories in Tolkien's world. I used to play LotR Online, which suffered under this yoke for years. I'm aware of multiple fanfic authors who were legally threatened for having dared to mention one thing in that canon. Then the estate turns around and approves a project that puts the entire history of Middle Earth in a blender? No, I do not accept such double standards. This is all a huge money grab, pure and simple.

I know that other people would draw the lines differently than I do. They would accept things that I don't, and vice versa. That's all fine. Live and let live, as I always say. I'm watching and enjoying the series, just as I have enjoyed others (e.g. Wheel of Time) that are inspired by Tolkien but not set in his world. But I also think I should be allowed to notice and have my own opinions about those things too. Apparently the RoP stans disagree. Literally all of the gatekeeping and all of the vitriol in these discussions have come from that direction. Even the worst Tolkien purists I've ever met accept that he had his flaws as a writer, and that adaptation to a new medium in a new time means some changes. They're not the problem; it's the people who think RoP takes precedence over Tolkien's own vision who are the problem.

A really rough sketch for the Worm/One Piece au I've been Ponderin' for a while now. Some random ideas for the main crew under the cut:

Let's start by making things clear: this is not for any kind of fanfic or anything of the sort. I have been known to write those when I was 14 and very into RWBY, but I still struggle to write anything too complex in english and I have since given up on the hobby anyway. I just like rotating Worm characters in my head and combining them with any other brainrot I am going through at any point of my life, y'know.

As for how the au actually works, I simply deleted all the characters from the One Piece universe from existance and then tried to apply every Worm character to the preexisting societal structures and dynamics of the Three Great Powers, whilst staying as close to the currently established canon and with making up as few new Devil Fruits as possible (currently on just 1, but I haven't gone through many side characters).

Now, as evidenced by the use of Haki and presence of Imp, this fanart portrays the crew at quite a later stage of their journey - I imagine the Underside Pirates (it is a butt joke, to be clear) started off somewhere in South Blue openly working for the mysterious Captain Coil, a man trying to make a name for himself before moving to the Grand Line. What the Underside Pirates didn't actually know is that they were slowly being set up for betrayal from the very start - Captain Coil is Thomas Calvert, a retired Marine, who works under a pseudonym solely so that he can build up the persona of Captain Coil as a threat to the World Government, fake arresting himself and gain the title of a Shichibukai (and with it, the entrance to the Holy Land Mary Geoise).

For the actual crew, let's go through them one by one:

Taylor D Hebert - newest recruit of the crew, starts off as quartermaster, before being promoted to the first mate and eventually captain further down the line. The user of Jou-Jou no Mi (shamefully, the only original Fruit I made up for this au so far - it possesses about the same capabilities as Taylor's powers do in canon). Not a lot to say here - take her Worm backstory, substitute being into heroes for being inspired to join the Marines and bosh, done. After the discovery of Haki I imagine she would start gathering bugs into shapes of objects and covering the entire swarm in armament Haki for some improvised weapons (she's doing that very thing and forming a katana in the art, coincidentally). Her attack name are references to english literature (I am polish so I cannot think of an example). Possibly gay for Rachel but, since Oda writes both romance and queer people weird, it's this very anime kind of crush where she acts normal 90% of the time, but then turns into a blushing mumbling idiot when Rachel is too close. Kind of like Kuroko from Railgun but with 100% less sexual assault, y'know.

Rachel Lindt - a dogfish fishman raised outside of Fishman Island, Rachel had a pretty tough life travelling the seas alone, always narrowly avoiding whichever slave hunting crew that confused her for a mermaid at any given moment. She has no fruit powers and minimal Fishman Karate skills due to never having a proper teacher. In combat she always relied mostly on various marine life companions she gathered throughout the years of travelling the sea - in many ways, her only family. Works as the crew's helmsman. Her attack names are hilariously simple and straightforward, often said after she delivers them, rather than during action (eg. she'll just calmly punch her opponent into the ground as they are mid screaming their attack name, dust herself off and calmly say 'Right Punch' before walking off). Mostly inspired by the fact, that it always annoyed me horribly how few female fishmen there were in the series. Completely unaware Taylor has a crush on her.

Alec Vasil - son of a Yonko and an ex-Celestial Dragon, Alec was one of the many children Nikos Vasil has produced with his various mistresses. There isn't much information about the Heartbreaker in Worm proper, but I imagine him as a Doflamingo kind of figure in this au - his connections and information about the Holy Land stops the Marines from ever attacking him directly and the powers of Ito Ito no Mi, whilst limited, let him marionette people around however he wishes to fulfill his various schemes. Alec himself is no Fruit user but, due to his mother being a Mink, can use Electro. Thanks to years of experimentation with the fighting style, he developed a technique which allows him a limited control over the electricity in his enemies' muscles, purposefully mimiquing the powers of his father - both to get his father's attention and to mock his abilities ('I can do everything you can and more without being a Celestial Dragon or a Fruit user' type deal). No one really knows what his job on the ship is supposed to be and, when asked, he just usually makes up whatever lie let's him laze off some more at any given moment (usually, 'Oh, yeah, I'm on permament Lookout duty, actually'). At first I thought his attack names should be in french, but nah, this dude is just screaming the most atrocious pun attack names known to mankind probably. Responsible for making up the crew's name.

Lisa Wilbourn - the crew's de facto unofficial captain in the early days, she also doubles as a navigator. A noble of a small kingdom in South Blue, her story plays out very similarly to the canon Lisa. At some point of it all she accidently gets her hands on Giro Giro no Mi and, when her family wants to exploit her mind reading abilities for business when she's still in mourning over her brother, she escapes her home island and gets scouted by Coil. I think that a lot of the time snipers are done real dirty in One Piece, so Lisa mainly uses long range weaponry (and later Observation Haki) during combat - she simply never puts any time into mastering Armament. Honestly not much to say here, I think she was one of the most obvious Devil Fruit fits in the entire crew. Out of every person in this drawing, I am the most disatissfied with her design and thus will probably do something about it shortly.

Brian Laborn - fills the role of a first mate, cook, quartermaster, doctor, canon master, shipwright and sometimes also a ship, if need be. My friend and I discussed whether to give him a Fruit power, as the only one that fits him - that being Yami Yami no Mi, which not only visually mimics Brian's power, but also makes the user literally suffer more in combat - is way too powerful for a small ass crew. So eventually I settled for just amking him the crew's boringman Haki user and martial artist. I mean, someone does need to fish out all these dumbasses from the ocean and Rachel isn't always around, I guess. A not zero chance he steals Yami Yami no Mi from Jack's crew later on or something of the like. He may use fullbody Armament at some point, purely because I think it gets REAL bad rep in One Piece and he would make it work, I bet. His attack names are all references to real life boxing history.

Aisha Laborn - there was much debate in my head whether Aisha should be the user of Memo Memo no Mi or Suke Suke no Mi - the latter eventually won out, because I believe Aisha going unnoticed by both foes and allies is more important than actually referencing the memory aspect of her powers. She got her hands on the Devil Fruit due to one of his mother's boyfriends, who was a pirate and robbed it off of someone on sea. Aisha ate the Fruit, angering her mother's boyfriend and, after being severly beaten up, managed to activate the Fruit's abilities to become invisible and call for Brian. The following sequence plays out similarly as in canon. Aisha would be on the ship from the very beginning, but Brian usually leaves her in some town when the Underside Pirates go on any kind of mission and it's not until later that she actually joins them as crew (or rather she sneaks onto their ship claiming to be their second permanent Lookout so many times that it just became easier letting her stay).

Ship - considering the crew's size, most likely a caravel. I'm firting with it being named Atlas, but are not sold on it. Jokingly referred to is as Shrugging Atlas in my head once. I think Atlas should be their second ship, something they gain after Taylor becomes a more prominent member of the crew, and they should start off with something else. No clue what tho.

I've seen your takes in eclipse, and as a new TSAMS fan I honestly agree, man's a cornered dog that everyone's been trying to put down ever since they learned of his existence. That said, do you know about any fic recs that actually explore the points you're making? I would appreciate if you share some! Or just tell me about an ao3 tag I could visit!

Sorry this took me a moment to get to! I’m terrible at not bookmarking things so I had to dig through the TSAMS tag. This list isn’t in any particular order. Not all of these dig deep into Eclipse’s character but, if they don’t, they’re still good Eclipse-centric fics that I recommend giving a read.

For a general tag to check out, usually “Eclipse Redemption”, “Redemption Arc”, or even “Fix-It Fic” will get you something. There’s not really one definite tag for it sadly, and stories that aren’t redemption arcs don’t typically go deep into Eclipse as a character.

sooo... this resulted from one too many plot bunnies jumping around my head. 😭🙈 also from— to my understanding— digger harkness and owen mercer are both existing at the same time right now in canon (instead of either of 'em being dead as a doornail) AND its not confirmed(?) that meloni thawne is still owen's mother, leaving a lot of owen's past up in the air. 🤷‍♀️ SO! i wanted to go for a more realistic take at digger having a kid with a lady (i.e. owen results from a one night stand because of course, with digger being digger 🙄) and... then dipping into a more cheesy romance because i fear conflict and just want MY BOYS (rogues) to be HAPPY (not dead) 😭🙏

this is part 1, and i'm not too sure how many parts the story will be, but i had this exposition part pretty squared away and was proud enough to post it. also not sure when part 2 will be out, but keep an eye out for it! 🤩

In hindsight, it was probably the mild concussion or at least the hangover, but Digger found himself introspecting. A rather out of character action for the man, but the tiny roadside diner he'd stumbled into was warm and something about the coffee was clearing his thoughts.

A month ago, Digger started to feel too crowded in Central; sure the blokes were great (for a favor and a beer), but it felt like they were starting to step on each other's boots. Especially since they all started shacking up in their little hideout— the Den, bleh— where it gave Digger painful memories of having roommates again.

He'd spent enough time with the guys in the slammer, it didn't have to be the same way when he's a free bird!

He'd decided to bounce town, give himself a good ol' fashioned vacation... his way, of course. The last couple of weeks had been a series of petty heists, dive bars, card games gone sour, and the fistfights that often accompanied people finding out he'd been cheating them the whole time.

Digger grinned into his mug, savoring the slight throb of pain that emanated from his black eye. The bugger that had given him this one was a sight when he had gotten all riled up. Less fun when he'd started swinging...

The Aussie glanced at the clock above the kitchens, absently noting the time before letting his eyes drift to the decorations beside it. Posters denoting silly phrases like "Eat Breakfast, Play Hard", old timey photos of the supposedly historic diner, and a lone health department plaque of approval from five years ago gave him enough to rest his eyes on. Particularly, a landscape picture featuring a freaky red-eyed duck thing caught his eye. Digger read the yellow emboldened words on it and frowned.

WELCOME TO MINNESOTA!

He scratched the scruff on his chin (also absently noting he needed to shave soon, maybe touch-up the muttons if he felt so inclined) and wondered why the Hell that place sounded so familiar to him.

Minnesota wasn't near any of his usual haunts outside of Central, and it was bloody cold, but something about that place jogged a memory. Digger gave it a few more seconds of consideration, shrugged, and just as he was about to finish off his drink, he froze. Suddenly, the hangover headache that he'd been ignoring the whole morning got a fuck-ton worse.

Maia.

Bloomin' Christ, Maia. Maia Mercer. She lived up in St. Paul, where he'd met her. And last he'd seen her. And spoke to her. As far as he knew, she still did.

Memories of her overwhelmed Digger's mind like an uninvited guest, which didn't help his hangover nor the gnawing feeling in his chest. The blonde was probably the only woman Digger ever had what you could call a relationship with. Like a certifiable, bonafide relationship. Maia wasn't a quick fling behind a bar or a working girl, she was his. Crickey, he was hers! For the time they had, anyway.

For the time you gave her, Digger's mind supplies unhelpfully. Guilt starts to bubble up in Digger's gut, in a way the fearsome Rogue Captain Boomerang had never felt before. He'd blown that relationship to smithereens, that he did. Almost on the year of seeing her (physically exclusive, might he add!), he'd up and... bounced. Still didn't... really know why himself.

He just left. Didn't even leave a note with any shitty reason he'd try to give. Effectively ghosted the poor sheila.

Truthfully, Digger wasn't proud of himself. He didn't often think that way— like Captain Boomerang would care about what other people think! HA!— but Maia... Maia didn't deserve the crap he probably put her through after he left. She was too sweet, too kind... smart, witty, a lil' firecracker if she put her mind to it, funny, a great smile... even better ass...

"Crickey." Digger mutters into his palm, dragging his hand down his face. He pushes his almost empty breakfast plate aside to drop his elbows on the table, thinking hard over his clasped hands.

Surely it wasn't all his fault! He'd only left after getting a job offer! And it wasn't his fault that job turned into two, which turned into three... which meant the initial two weeks turned into...

Six months!

Digger groaned. Even the selfish part of him was failing to whip up an excuse for that. A right drongo, he was. Downing the rest of his coffee, Digger waved over the waitress with a smarmy grin, a pair of crumpled twenties in his fingers.

"Keep the change, darlin'. For the tip, of course." He winks, and the middle-aged woman simply rolls her eyes at his leer. She takes the bills, and Digger jumps up from his seat, grabbing his jacket in that same motion. He makes a show of straightening up, running a hand through his curly mop of hair before slapping his blue cap on.

With a pep in his step, and his dumb, cheeky grin plastered across his face, Digger pushed his way out the diner. The breeze was warm, the sun shining, and this Aussie was filled with new purpose.

Step one, of course, was making his way to Minnesota.

Step two; Hunt down his little turtle dove and seduce her all over again! She'd be understanding, he was sure of it.

Step three... well...

Digger's grin turned lecherous. Images of the good times he and Maia had, late at night, in that soft bed of hers... Digger would be a very happy man soon enough.

He knew what he wanted to do.

The Aussie hops into the beater truck he'd stolen a state away, peeling out from the parking lot and hightailing down the highway. As he drove, the swagger started to wear off, and that... gnawing feeling started to get a bit stronger. Digger bit the inside of his cheek, fingers tight around the steering wheel. Guilt had never looked good on him, so he'd done away with it a long time ago.

But sometimes it just reared its ugly head. Like now.

Digger never did well with good things either, so he'd thrown those out long ago too. Then Maia came along, and she was the best thing to ever happen to him... and he'd done what he'd always done. Damn coward.

"Old habits die hard." Digger mumbles to himself, turning up the music on the semi-busted radio, loud as it could go.

This wasn't just something he wanted to do; It was something he needed to do.

Digger has been waiting outside Maia's house for forty-five minutes.

Behind the quaint white house, the sun is low enough in the sky that everything's either in shadow or rimmed with gold light. He watches the kitchen light turn on, then turn off, then the light flick on in the living room. Even though he'd been gone, he could see every piece of Maia's place in his head; the pale yellow walls, the plants, the quilt she'd started.

He wondered how far she'd gotten on it.

A breeze rustled the leaves on the trees above him, whistling through the windchimes at Maia's door. Digger shivered. It was only August, but the wind chilled enough to make standing outside, a cheap bouquet of half-wilted flowers in his hand, just unbearable enough. Digger sighed heavily out through his nose, not liking his nerves getting the best of him.

All he had to do was open that little white fence, walk up the slightly uneven brick trail and porch, ring the blasted doorbell...

"Fuck it all!" Digger curses, marching up to Maia's house even though his feet feel like lead, and knocking hard on the door before he realizes what he's... doing...!

Digger doesn't have any opportunity to turn tail and run, because the locks click, and he freezes as the door opens, just a smidge. A cascade of warm light falls on his face, and illuminated from behind, her blonde hair glowing (Like an angel, Digger's mind swoons) is Maia.

She's as stunning as Digger remembers.

Her nut brown eyes go wide. The expression on her face is nothing short of completely, utterly shocked.

Digger swallows, then offers his old flame a shaky, lopsided smirk.

"Hey, luv." He says, suavely as he can muster for his uncharacteristically quiet voice, and Maia— who'd been looking at him like he was a dead man risen from the grave— steels that faraway look in her eye to meet his dead-on. Digger's smirk drops some, a bit taken aback by the inscrutable, intense expression on Maia's face. There wasn't anger, or sadness... nothing. Not even indifference.

He'd expected a somewhat different reaction (screaming and hollering like a banshee, for one), but he also was catching whiffs of her lavender and rose water hair wash, the one he'd scrub into her long, beautiful curls when they'd share a bath...

Digger can't think much more of kissing Maia's bare skin, because the door slams shut in his face.

i'm just saying that these are literally little kids in middle school. i'm not saying that middle school kids don't have relationships, but it's still weird. and from, i'm boutta geek out about this incredibly obscure topic i'm sorry, a developmental standpoint middle grade children are nowhere near psychologically ready to be in a relationship which is why it's extremely rare to see couples who have been together since middle school (that one episode of abbott elementary). if you go on tiktok and look for people who broke up with someone they were in a relationship with from middle school- high school, those breakups are traumatic

all breakups are traumatic in some way, but there have been several people who have developed traits of borderline personality disorder because they broke up with someone they had been romantically involved with since middle school.

also let's not forget how warped your view on intimate relationships go (fucking. imma say it the way you think about fucking is skewed). the people i've spoken to who broke up with their middle school partner in their older parts of high school have recounted just how awful their view on sex was, some have even pondered if they were asexual because they couldn't picture themselves up under anyone else.

like i get it, it's cute to see little kids who like each other, but most of this fandom are of age to drive, to study for the SATS/gsces, some are able to legally drink in the united states, or applying to college. these are little baby children that high school students and young adults should not be playing match maker for.
