Khan has absolutely no connection to christmas - or any other human traditions, for the matter.

Back where he comes from, a planet so far away that mankind doesn't even know of its existence yet (and he sincerely hopes they'll never start to explore that quadrant of space, for the sake of earth), traditions were rare and centered around the great rulers, their glory, their lives, the way they are meant to be superior to everything else that might exist in the Universe. Once a year, everyone would gather - literally everyone, except the poor souls living in the slumps outside the cities - and collectively praise the ones who turned them into what they were, what they still are. Speak a mantra that has been drilled into their heads from the very beginning, to be recited so often until it became part of their existence, their own lives, their own thoughts.

But besides that... well, there are no holidays. No other traditions. Nothing that would distract eager soldiers and others from doing what they're supposed to do.

So, the whole concept of having more than just one holiday once a year... it's very new to Khan. The first time he's heard someone speaking about Christmas, he didn't understand - the second time it had happened he'd grown curious. And when he's heard the very same word spoken out once more, eagerly so, he'd decided to do a bit of research on his own.

The Data Padd had given him a sufficient amount of information; Humans, depending on where exactly they came from, which area of earth they'd been born into, what they identify with (in any possible way), carry different traditions, celebrate them according to what is appropriate, and enjoy their time in such a way. It's fascinating; Khan has read about it for a whole evening, and then finally understood what Christmas is about, usually.

It differs a bit - the religious background has mostly faded, it's more about people enjoying time with friends and family, bringing gifts to show each other their appreciation. It's cute, in a way, yet so very much foreign to Khan that he cannot really understand the sentiment... how it is supposed to feel. He's never given a gift nor has he ever received one, and he's content with it. Yet, after reading about those traditions... he does wonder.

What would it be like to receive a gift? To have someone consider him important enough to come up with anything they can think of to give it to him? ---Perhaps he'll never find out about that, and he's meant to take that as a fact. He does. The slight pang of something bitter he experiences within his heart is quickly pushed to the side; He should be thankful for being here, and that's all that matters.

Returning from his shift one simulated evening, Padd in hand, Khan knows that said Christmas must be around the corner. He's unsure when exactly it happens, but he has spot some people getting excited - and some have even decorated parts of the ship with greenery as well as ornaments that have caught Khan's attention immediately, simply because how sparkly they are in the surrounding lights.

It's the simple things he finds joy in now, he assumes. Even if it's tiny trinkets made of plastic or glass, meant to just exist for the sake of looking pretty.

Humming to himself, he opens the door to his quarters without even needing to think of the action, stepping inside---

---Just to be met with the sight of that woman, the Doctor, standing there, staring right back him with what is obvious surprise - and shock - written onto her face. Khan's brows lift high on his forehead, equally as surprised, blue eyes widened as he stops his motions and takes in the sight of her, allowing silent seconds to pass.

No, he's not angry. Why should he? His quarters are private, yes, but it's not as if he isn't used to sharing them with anyone. Back where he comes from, he's resided in a shared room with three other men for the whole of his life...

He's just that: Surprised. Wondering why she is here, noticing the way she gets overwhelmed with embarrassment because she's been caught doing... well, what exactly?

Khan's blue eyes flick over to his bed, where he immediately spots... something sitting on the covers. Something that's wrapped in a bow. That almost makes those black brows rise even higher along the span of his forehead and Khan blinks, for the first time since he's arrived, as his gaze trails back to the woman who starts to speak a few, quietly muttered words.

Did she...? Are those...?

"---No need to worry.", is what he decides to say after a while; Such things are awkward on him, trying to do small-talk, trying to find the right words. Khan tries anyway, because he wants to. "I'm not... angered by your presence." Does that help? Is that the right thing to say? He doesn't know, but he hopes it will suffice.

And yes, he is still standing there, in front of his now closed door with his Padd lingering between his fingers.

Advent Day I ~ Old and New @respondedinkind

Christmas means a lot of things to Beth, but mostly it means peace and family. She remembers eagerly awaiting for the ships to bring pines and spruces in refrigerated containers, and some neighbours simply decorating palm trees in their yards. She remembers stopping and visiting the bearded and red suited Santa Claus bearing his chest to the tropical sun and raising his hand in a universal greeting ~hence why he's called Shaka Santa~ while beside his statue, one of Tutu Mele {Mrs Claus in formality} wearing a grin, her square eye-glasses and her finest mu'umu'u. She remembers feasts down on the beach where members of the community pulled together to bring food and drink enough for everyone, and no one was turned away. There would be carols sung along with the soft strains of ukuleles. There would be Aunties sharing pumpkin crunch bars. Hulas would be danced, presents exchanged. But star ships don't really have anything that can compare. Most of the time, the crew seem to ignore the ceaseless flow of time, marking it all down not as days and nights but strings of numbers that create a stardate. Beth remembers. Keeps track of time as far as earth-dates in her personal journal.

~*~ Weeks ago, she'd taken the liberty to escort Khan back to his quarters. And while he never offered her entry, she couldn't help but notice the barren state of it. She saw no photographs, no hint of anything personal to him. And maybe that made sense in the time when he politely inclined his head, his face an unmoving and expressionless thing, reminding her of nothing so much as an achingly haunting classical statue. She bid him a good evening, and turned back down the corridor. Mind lost in thought as she thought to herself how sad and lonely it all seemed. Not that he would admit to anything like that. But surely, even Commander Spock was prone to sentimental things. Then it occurred to her that maybe… maybe Khan had nothing of his old life. Nothing of home, of kin. Maybe nothing at all. She recorded these thoughts as she did most of her opinions. In letters she would never again get to send to her brother. She tells the idea of him that in some ways she is starting to identify with her mysterious patient, or at least empathise with him. How he and Khan might have been friends. A lot of little things that held no bearing on her assignment or the man's place on the ship. And then after making herself comfortable, she began her secret project. The first order that would take the longest was the blanket. The outermost border was knitted in white. Then cream, then alternating cream and a neutral sort of brown. These colours represented dry and wet sand from her beaches and the way the colours blended down by water's edge. Brown gave way to a thin sort of blue. The kiss between land and sea. That blue became the turquoise and deeper shades of the sea as the ocean fell away into itself, and finally turned to the colour of his eyes that she has no name for and doesn't have the paint to try and replicate it in any other medium. Knitting the cover took all of her time so that it would be ready in the time she wanted to have it. Wide enough to span the size of his bunk, long enough to wrap him shoulder to toe. She doesn't think Khan gets cold like she can, but that isn't the point really. It is a gift. Something for him to own, something that is his and no one else's. So what if she sacrificed a little sleep in order to finish it? Beth has never needed much rest to be fully capable, and she wanted to be kind. The second gift is much more personal in nature perhaps. Or at least in an entirely different way. When Beth was little, her grandfather had given her a little scroll case necklace. The clever design incorporated her 'aumakua ~a family guardian~ in the form of turtles swimming endlessly. Honu are seen as a symbol of wisdom, of long lives, of perseverance. All things he wished to impart in her, and all things she sees in Khan the more she gets to know him. It does make her smile a little when she thinks of the incredibly hard outer shell that protects the soft living heart within. She can think of nothing more appropriate to describe him. What Beth didn't account for, though, was getting caught trying to be a secret Santa. She'd talked her way into getting his quarters opened. She'd set the ribbon-tied blanket on the foot of his bunk, the necklace settled atop of it, and she was fully expecting to make good her escape when she turned…and came face to face with the man in question. Beth blinks. Her cheeks are fire and she lowers her gaze. "I…I can explain."

Smooth, Chad, real smooth. Although I wish we could have gotten some moments of them actually becoming more close because it’s kind of out of nowhere? It's like they said, here’s the black best friend characters. Obviously we should just pair them up, no need to actually develop that everyone should get it.

^ For reference, it took like a few minutes of screentime for us to buy into Troy and Gabriella being into each other, so they really could have squeezed something in like, maybe during their talk when they realised they fucked up? They could have a genuine moment there.

Also quick fast forward but I read in an interview with Monique I think that she had the idea of giving Taylor a Britney-inspired outfit for the last scene, and yeah it's a pretty nice touch! A mix between preppy but also showing her letting loose.

I didn't clock that outfit at all at first though because I'm used to seeing school uniform in my country asdjhsf

Anyway yeah it’s too sudden for Sharpay to suddenly be cool with everyone now, but I don’t really care because they had no idea how big this movie would become and that they’d get sequels so I get why they wrapped that up quickly.

Aww Kelsi looking happy but awkward, same. Looks like everyone had an outfit change! She’s the playmaker! Troy’s like Kelsi fan number one and their friendship is so underrated honestly, he’s always lifting her up. Which must have been crazy for Kelsi, in the novelisation during their first interaction she’s like “THE Troy Bolton is being nice to me holy shit??”

Kelsi’s reaction is so funny though like, yeah I too would be like “Thanks!! Errr what do I do with this now I don’t know anything about basketball? Do I shoot it for fun? But I’ll probably flop and lose the ball, how long am I supposed to carry it for? Can I just… leave it to the side? Put it away I mean they’re gonna need it again? But I don’t want to look like I don’t appreciate it?????” This is what my brain is like during every single unscripted social interaction I engage in btw

Jason noticing her being a bit awkward and helping her shoot the ball is sweet, he’s just like that. Not a huge fan of taking her hat off though, I know it’s like this ooooh she’s letting loose moment but…. she had it on during Breaking Free when she’d just stood up to Sharpay and she was all energetic and confident during the performance, she’s all about her hats let her wear her hat! It comes off as the “oooooohhh this nerdy girl with questionable fashion sense is actually really beautiful if she just presents more conventionally!” trope

I love watching the extras in this one because they’re obviously professional dancers and they just show everyone up, especially in that bit once the end credits start rolling. Ryan slays in this too, and happy to see Martha freely dancing there! As for the song itself, it’s iconic of course. For my personal listening tastes though, it's just a liiiittle too cheesy and for the kids. That’s what they were going for, with a pretty learnable choreography and all. Which is fine! It’s just not something I’d listen to much in my free time. I’m also haunted by another vine where these guys do a handshake or something and then break into this choreography idk, I can’t find it. Butterfly’s Poison; Blood Chains (Chou no Doku) Part 3 - Hideo Ozaki Route

I'm quite interested in Hideo tbh, because he genuinely cares for Yuriko but it also feels like he hates her to an extent so I want to see if he'll still be a jerk lol. OH, Hideo already has a fiancee..I guess we might get a Yuriko is the mistress tragic end?🥲 I can see why Hideo's family would want to find a girl from an even more prestigious family than Yuriko's because Yuriko's mother looked down on them for thinking they could get Hideo and Yuriko to marry. I quite like how they talked about the 'what if' scenario of if Yuriko's mother wasn't against Hideo and Yuriko getting married. Hideo was definitely happy when Yuriko said they would be happy. It's actually kinda funny how Shiba has already noticed that Yuriko is a bit jealous and curious about Hideo's fiancee and teases Yuriko about it lol. It's quite amusing how everyone can tell how much Hideo and Yuriko want to be with each other except themselves lol. Honestly, they say such embarrassing things that would basically mean 'I like you' but they're so oblivious to it. But I guess more than obliviousness, they choose to believe that it shouldn't be love because they both have their circumstances that would make it too difficult if they do decide that they like each other and want to be together. I really enjoyed their night walk though, it felt sweet to see two childhood friends so honestly talk about how they felt like they've drifted apart but that even though they've grown older, they haven't really changed at heart. Hideo visiting her frequently to check on her after her mother passed away was really sweet of him, he's so considerate.

Such a happy and talkative Hideo at the zoo lol! He's actually so adorable when he's talking about animals, I didn't expect that haha. Honestly, even though I'm as happy as Yuriko is that Hideo is always inviting her out, I am also worried about the fiancee thing considering he's been going to Yuriko's house lately and is now going out with her to the zoo and an opera too, people would definitely misunderstand. Hideo holding her hand in the crowd to make sure she's okay was so unexpected but cute. Ughhh I hate how their date got ruined, I didn't want them to face reality yet and not in this way that could affect Hideo's military career either. But I'm still really happy that Hideo prioritised protecting Yuriko above everything else. Hideo so genuinely laughing at Yuriko asking him whether he still wants to fly in the sky like a bird because he said he wanted to be a bird when he was a child is so adorableee. Yuriko really was a wild child lol, untying her obi sash to use as a rope to save Hideo when he fell into the water chasing after birds is just such a hilarious scene to imagine. Awww Hideo and Yuriko taking that awkward photo by the river was super cute! It's probably going to bite them in the ass later but I don't even care because they're so innocent and sweet, how can we not support their love?! They should run away together like Yuriko said in the beginning lol.

My heart broke when Hideo said he volunteered to go to war in Siberia. I understand his reasons, and it's true that it's probably one of the only ways for him to refuse the engagement with a lady from such a prestigious family without shaming his family but I hate it. I absolutely hate it. I love it that Hideo would rather go to war and believe in the off chance that he'll survive and come back and be able to marry Yuriko, showing how much he loves her and refuses to marry anyone besides her. But I'm sorry I can't do it, I'm too weak. If I was Yuriko, I wouldn't be able to bear the idea of the man I love going so far away just so we could possibly be together. I'd rather we separate and he marry someone else. I'd rather he live in sadness than die. I don't want Hideo to die. There's so many ways he could die. He could die on the way there, from the war, from disease and so many other things! I wouldn't want him to go even if it was in the modern day, let alone the Taisho era! I just wouldn't be able to tolerate the idea of him dying in a foreign place when he didn't need to go. It's just too heartbreaking. I loved how they shared a kiss as they bathed in the sights of the town together, and naturally, they gave themselves to each other before Hideo departed. I hated having to watch them cry at being torn apart and possibly never seeing each other again, but I also really loved how pure their love is for each other with one determined to come back no matter what and the other determined to wait for them no matter what. It's just depressing to think about all the people who have gone through this before and never got their happy endings.

Sawako seems like a great woman and I think Hideo would be happy with her in the other routes where Yuriko is with someone else haha. I think if he got to see the strength she showed Yuriko, he would be able to love her. Hideo defied military orders and came back because he found out about Majima from another officer. It's actually kinda funny though, everyone has someone that recognises Majima in every route, it's like dang Majima, you're really not good at hiding this are you lol. I'm so glad that Hideo is leaving the military, I hope he can pursue his true interests now. Oh wow, he's already been studying birds in his spare time and has already published papers?! Dayum boy! He's already set lol. I'm honestly so happy for them, the ending made me feel so warm, they'll definitely bicker a lot but they'll also cherish each other a lot and thinking about their future makes me super happy for them haha. I was mad on behalf of Yuriko knowing that she always has to follow along with Hideo to discover new birds species in all kinds of places and having to separate from their son, but I guess I'm soft-hearted like Yuriko too, because when he said he can't live without her and can't concentrate when she isn't beside him, I couldn't get mad at him, because we all know how much Hideo loves her and how he's willing to give his life for her, so I really believe him when he says that living apart from Yuriko is like living without air, he really might die lol. I knew the tragic ending would be Hideo dying in Siberia, but thinking about Hideo's wonky writing in his letters as he got more and more exhausted, and the crinkled photo of them by the river being found in his military uniform just made me want to cry. The other tragic ending was honestly tough to read. Knowing how straight-laced Hideo is but having to have an affair in order to be with Yuriko, and he can only meet her once a week, but be forced to face reality every time he sees her bulging stomach and the limitations to their relationship, but still be unable to let it go because he loves her too much, everything just honestly breaks my heart. Seeing Hideo go from angry, happy, sad and just keep going through those rollercoaster of emotions in a short span of time of meeting her just hurts. He knows he's terrible but he can't even stop himself because he hates how he can't be Yuriko's husband no matter what and that's just so painful to watch.

Overall, I really loved Hideo's route, definitely my favourite for now haha. It had everything I wanted for a love restricted by things like social status, responsibility, duty and a strong passion for true love. I've always liked Hideo so I'm happy for him in the best end that they're able to be together even if they got distant because of things outside of their hands. I loved how we slowly got to watch over Hideo and Yuriko go again from awkwardly talking to each other, reminiscing about their past to quite openly showing how much they love and care for each other. I loved how Hideo put in so much effort to visit Yuriko and take her out when her mother passed away, and I loved how they were like childish little lovebirds when they ran away to the river, kissed, had a fight and took a photo showing their desire to marry and be together forever. I hated how Hideo decided to go to war, but I loved that it showed how much he was willing to sacrifice just for the chance to be with Yuriko. It showed the depth of his love for her and how much he didn't want a life that didn't have her as his wife, which is why I can see why the tragic ending tormented him so, especially when he believed that Yuriko didn't try hard enough to be with him and just married Shiba. I loved how they're truly like childhood friends that are unafraid to share exactly what they think with each other but still show how much they care for the other. I really liked their relationship and I thought it was really cute and sweet. I wish I could see more of them haha!

PERKS OF DATING A YOUNGER GUY I LEARNED AFTER WATCHING CHINESE DRAMA FIND YOURSELF + REVIEW!

1. He has less baggage

This means that he has more time to attend to your needs and wants unlike an older guy with a demanding schedule and lots of responsibilities at hand.

2. He's more open-minded and adventurous

They are open to having new experiences and won't judge you for veering off the path you should stay on.

3. He's infectiously energetic *ehem*

Need I say more? A younger guy's youthful sense will surely find unimaginable ways to impress you!

4. He puts you on a pedestal

A younger man will appreciate your maturity and experiences and will admire you for it. They're also most likely take advice from you without letting it bruise their ego.

5. He'll make you feel young

Be prepared to relive the fun parts of your younger years with him.

It's not so wrong to say that the May-December relationship is taboo, especially among Asians. Most people I know had this inkling that when a younger guy hooks up with a woman way older than him, it could prolly mean one of two things — the guy's a paramour or she's a sugar momma. I'm honestly not a fan of it either on the premise that women mature faster than men. Let's be real, an immature relationship is a disaster. But now that I'm in my late 20s, and a hopeless romantic single at that, I kinda pondered over this. It suddenly occurred to me, what if one day I’m caught up in the position of being pursued by a younger man? Will I let the stigma affect me emotionally? Or will I take the risk ‘coz all is fair in love? I still don’t have a definite answer to this question. However, watching Find Yourself served as an eye-opener for me to look at things from a different perspective.

Find Yourself is a 2020 Chinese drama starring Song Wei Long and Victoria Song. It tells the story of a 32-year old Executive Director who never *even once* experienced dating. Given her age and career stability, she receives constant pressure from the people around her to find someone to marry and has since frequented blind dates arranged by her family, friends, or colleagues. But this girl is just someone who swears by the "spark" - no spark, then no point to the relationship. She may be old for fantasizing over first love and such, but she still yearns that it'll naturally come to find her someday. Until her thirst for real romance is quenched by a 22-year-old guy who started working as an intern in her company at his brother’s request.

Although hesitant at first due to their huge age difference and the societal views, she went out with him on the condition that they'll keep it a secret for the first 3 months. If everything went well, she agrees to publicize her relationship with him.

Let’s start off with the good things...

I just can't with this drama...! This so beautiful, cute, relatable - especially for a woman in late 20s like me. 

Plot-wise, it was well-imparted and makes perfect sense, touching a looooooot of relationship aspects in 41 episodes. Not only did I enjoy the happenings between our main couple, but our side couples' stories are very interesting too.

This drama pretty much straightened out my prejudice about age-gap relationships.

Light-hearted, just the way I like it! Every episode will make you smile and/or laugh hard.

Sexual tensions overload and superb kissing scenes! Let those hormones rush in. Not awkward to watch 'coz They. Did. Not. Hold. Back. Ack! If you're single, be prepared to feel MORE SINGLE watching this drama.

Well-written lines that will make you feel real emotions. The words will shoot you straight to the heart.

Acting-wise, the casts, from the mains down to the sides, did a super fine job in conveying the sentiments of their characters. My highest admiration goes to male lead Yuan Song, not (only) because he’s young, hot, and handsome, but because his youthful vibe made me reminisce the paradox of my early 20s awww. Anyways, in the beginning, I am sort of confused why (of all girls) he fell head over heels with our female lead He Fanxing who's obviously out of his league. I even suspected him of taking advantage of her naivety in matters of the heart. But as the drama went along, our dude proved himself genuine... That he's sincerely just a guy who's deeply in love with a woman... That indeed, true love can exist in this kind of relationship. Both Yuan Song and Fanxing emotionally benefited from each other and it's so lovely seeing that.

⚠️ AND SORRY BUT THIS IS A SPOILER ALERT⚠️

Halfway through the drama, our main couple called it quits. I'm somewhat grateful that it happened. Their break-up scene is just so powerful I had to rewind it many times. Not because I liked seeing them suffer from the consequences of their incompatibility. Rather, I loved it 'coz it became the turning point of their relationship.

Their love is premature, to begin with — trust isn't mutual, commitment is one-way, only showing each other's good sides in fear of the relationship turning sour, one is willing to compromise while the other wants to avoid responsibility, filled with doubts and insecurities. During this break-up phase, we were shown the difference between how kids and adults behave and decide in a dilemma. I suddenly remembered this one line delivered in the drama which I agree with — "Only kids would choose one or the other. Adults find solutions". The break-up also served as our main couple's period of contemplation about who and what they want in life. It taught them how to fully embrace their offbeat romance against the norms. Fortunately, things wrapped up into a sweet end.

And of course the bad...

Hmmm... Maybe I'm just not used to it but am I the only one who thinks that this drama is quite lengthy? Yes, I enjoyed it but it's not a good one to binge-watch. It took me almost a month to finish this I nearly drowned haha. Honestly, there were parts they could've just compressed instead of dragging it for too long. One example is Ye Luming and He Fanxing's relationship trial. Ooohhh I hate this part it brought shivers down my spine ugh. Well truth be told, Luming and Fanxing are compatible and better off as friends. They jive so well, and I give it to them that they're both adults who can only understand adult things.

But when Luming all of a sudden became a sneaky character to an intolerable point... Ah, I don't know anymore! Seeing how compelled Fanxing is to being Luming's girlfriend got under my skin. Although these ugly parts eventually became a good contributory factor to Fanxing's realization of her true feelings towards Yuan Song, but still...! I also hated Fanxing at one point for being so gullible in love. But yeah, I had to swallow it because that's her character setup in the first place. It should be expected of her to be hasty and dubious about it.

On the other hand, I wished they've been generous in showing us more about how Yuan Song and Fanxing's relationship is going after the public reveal. I've been waiting for this the entire time (they could've done so much more in 41 episodes' length!) so I'm quite disappointed.

After watching the second season of Well-Intended Love, I admit I lost interest in Chinese dramas. So watching this restored my faith in them. I even have a list of C-dramas lined up now! But I have to move on from this one first before I start another. It's not as easy as I thought ㅠㅠ

don’t get me wrong i know there’s some stuff but i think overall it’s a little less intense

Lavender was nervous beyond belief, she's never done anything like this before. But she's read enough books to know that to move the plot along, you've gotta go for it or you'll be screaming in frustration later.

Mason Adalbert. The one boy who could send her heart a flutter and turn her whole being to mush with a smile. He didn't seem like the kind of boy "girls like her" would go for; but she didn't give any fucks about that. He was cute as a button, smart, was super kind, and drank his respect women juice. Did she mention he was absolutely adorable?

She fixed her collar, adjusted her romper, and tousled her hair a bit. Here goes nothing.

"Mason."

He looked up from cleaning his glasses. "Yeah?"

fUCk he's cute, "Um. I was, um, hoping that. Um.", 'God I'm going nowhere, just cut to the chase.' she thought to herself. "Would you go out with me? Uh, please?"

He looked at her with a blank stare as he adjusted his glasses, "Me? Are. Are you sure?" 'Of course it's you!', she hastily thought.

"Yes, you. I'm sure of it. I um.. would really like to go out with you."

His cheeks flushed red and he gave a shy smile. "Yes. I'd love to. Where.... were ya thinking of going?"

Time for her plan! "Well, I was thinking of going to the roller rink tomorrow because it's Half Price Thursday. Plus, I've never been and I just thought it'd be fun... and yeah." God, she hoped she didn't look or sound too awkward.

"Ooh that does sound like fun, Lavender! What time were you thinking of-"

Ah, shit, Sheila's coming...

"Well, well, well, look at what we've got here! A goth wannabe prude asking out a boring little prude nerd. What a perfect pair, I'll bet-"

Lavender bared her claws, "Sheila Anderson get the fuck out of my face before I slice your damn neck off."she growled.

"Alrighty! It's a date! See ya then, bye! One of my dads should be here by now to, uh, pick me up haha."

He pulled her into a quick hug, "Bye Lav!"

She shouldn't have said a single thing. Lav had just come home to a small swarm of deadbeats, and not quite thinking, she spilled the beans about her upcoming date with Mason to them. But the thing about them is, they're like little kids; they'll repeat what they hear to anyone who'll listen. Excited about the news, they roamed around telling everyone in HQ that 'Lavender has a date with a boy tomorrow!' over and over again.

"Dang it, now I'll probably have to deal with- oh no he's pounding on my door."

"LAVENDER DEARIE, PLEASE LET ME IN, I HAVE TO KNOW ALL THE BITS AND DETAILS ABOUT YOUR DATE!! OH MY GODS, WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO WEAR-"

"Calm down Decan, you're going to break down my door!! Come in, we'll talk, I promise."

She let him in and he immediately started asking his burning questions, "Who is it!? Who's the lucky lad!? I'm all ears!!" With a sigh, she prepared herself to answer his 300 questions. "Well, it's Mason,-"

"HAH!! I KNEW IT!! LEWIS, YOU OWE ME 20 DOLLARS!!" he exclaimed.

"Um. Alright then. Mason and I are going to the roller rink tomorrow at 5:30 for Half Price Thursday."

"Ooh! I have a couple of outfit ideas that will make him fall head over heels for you~" he replied, ready to plan.

"Fine. But I get to choose the shoes."

"Deal! Let's see what they are so I can plan accordingly!"

She phased through her walk in closet and pulled out her choice of shoes, recieving a slight grimace from Decan. "These ones. I insist."

Decan took a large inhale, "Darling, I  L O V E  you, but I'm starting to regret that deal... I just... can't quite DEAL with those shoes... but! I like a challenge, so let's see what I can do!"

The shoes in question were knee high tye dye Converse in the demi romantic and asexual flag colors, but the green and purple colors were neon; not the easiest thing to match, that's for sure.

What felt like AGES later, Decan found an outfit consisting of a shin length black dress with lavender lace trim on the bottom, completed with sheer tights. He looked as if he was in the nth dimension, proud to have accomplished an impossible seeming task. "I DID IT!!! FINALLY!!!"

"Yes you did! I feel cute uwu."

"Well, you ARE cute!" he replied, stating his facts.

"....fine. I'll let you have it this ONE time." she replied, a small blush on her face.

"Alrighty then! Let's go downstairs, everyone is a buzz with excitement about your first date~"

So downstairs they went, and about four seconds later E V E R Y O N E was shooting the same rapid fire question,

"LAV WHO ARE YOU GOING ON A DATE WITH?!?!"

With a sharp inhale, she spilled the tea, "I'm going on a date with Mason, he's the cutie I'm always talking about." 

"And YOU, LEWIS PEPPER, OWE ME TWENTY BUCKAROOS!! FORK IT OVER!!" bellowed Decan, thrilled to have predicted correctly for once.

A slight grumble was heard from the back of the living room, and an annoyed deadbeat swarmed over with a twenty dollar bill and put it in Decan's waiting hands, "thank you!!~"

Everyone shared their excitement for the girl, along with a bit of worry about what could happen, but Lavender assured them that Mason is a very kind person. Plus, if anything happens, she always has a way to get out of a situation; magic and her amazing combat skills.

...

The day had come, and Lav had just been dropped off at the roller rink. She began looking for Mason until she felt a tap on her shoulder.

"Hey! Looking for me?~" he announced, playful smirk on his face.

"Actually, yes. Sorry to keep you waiting, one of my dads took a bit longer than I thought doing my makeup... but hey! I'm not technically late, it's only 5:19." she replied.

"Oh please, you're worth the wait."

"What?"

"What?"

Both teens had a dusting of red on their faces, standing in an awkward silence.

"Umm, you look very nice! Love the shoes, must've taken ages to match haha." Mason chimed, nervously laughing.

"Aww, thank you. My Papa Decan almost gave in trying to find something, twas funny." she replied.

"Lav?"

"Yeah?"

"How. How many dads do you have, um, exactly? Are they polyamorous or, uh, something to that extent?" he asked, curious.

"Oh, that! No, they're not all poly, I'm adopted and a bunch of people have shared custody over me, so I basically have like, a dozen parents at this point pretty much. And all but two are men, so that's why I have a bunch of dads. Funny thing is, they're all in their mid-to-late twenties, so they're not quite on that 'dad age level' but I don't care. They all make bad jokes and are very caring so... yeah, haha. Don't tell anyone, but I'd totally do anything for them, all my caretakers. I love them a lot, and they all love me a lot, and I don't deserve them most of the time." she warmly replied, softly smiling to herself. Mason felt his cheeks warm up and his eyes were likely shining.

"Awww, that's so sweet! Also, you SO deserve each other! I like to think that things usually happen for some reason one way or another, and I think it's wonderful that they found you and that you all care for each other so much! Wh-why are you crying? Are you alright?"

She touched her face and realized 'yep those are mascara tears alright.'

"Oh, um, I'm okay. Sorry, I didn't even see I was crying. Um, let's, um, go inside, it's getting dark... or something. Haha." Lav replied, trying to move the date along.

"Oh, um, ok. Do you... want a hug?" he asked, trying to make her feel better.

"Yes please, I'd love that."

And with that, he pulled her into a warm hug, taking in each others warmth with a smile. 'She smells like warm apple pie... no wonder she's so wonderful...'

After what felt like An eternity, they departed and both were blushing messes.

"Um-"

"I am NOT blushing, it's just warm in here." snapped Lav, not sure what to do with these... warm,,, happy static feelings.

"Wait, you're  B L U S H I N G?? You look so cute though!" he replied back, smile in his eyes.

"Wha, uh, I-I do NOT!!",she sputtered, blushing deeper, "YOU'RE the cutie here! With your beautiful silver eyes, your soft caramel hair, and your breathtaking smile that I like so much! Not to mention, you're SUPER smart and nice and, and, GENUINE!! Do you know how many times literal DIRTBAGS have tried to flirt with me? They're always weird and gross and I do NOT like it, and I don't like how it's easily accepted for them to be all... X rated all the time!! Like, it may be cause I'm ace and repulsed by s*xual stuff, but still! Don't be gross, people!" she outburst, recieving some strange glances.

"*sigh*, I'm sorry Mason, let's go inside now, people are staring and I don't want them to do anything to you." she softly spoke, gently holding his back for him to follow her.

"...thank you. For, um, everything. It means a lot to me, stuff like that. Again, thank you so much.", he whispered, not sure what to say or do. "...am I making this, uh, awkward for you, Lavender? I'm really sorry if I am-"

"No, you're fine it's, uh, all good. Let's go get skates and such already, haha." she nervously replied, finally walking inside.

They were having a surprisingly good time, despite the shaky beginning. Both were doing laps around the rink, holding onto the perimeter every ten seconds due to fear of falling. But they got the hang of it, carefully skating around. They kept tapping hands, unsure of whether or not it was appropriate to join them together. Finally, Mason went in for the kill and took ahold of her hand. She felt a smile creep up her face, and held his hand back.

"Your hand fits nicely into mine, ya know." he smiled.

"Yeah. It does." she replied back, pressing a soft kiss to his knuckles, and him in return blushing like crazy. "Aww, you're so cute when you're blushing, Mason."

Hey I was kind of a bitch to you in the past... Holy Fuck I’ve just understood why you hate shippers, ok I’m a shipper but yikes others are worse. I mean so many people who just want their faves to get together quickly, yikes that can ruin a show fast. I mean yes certain characters could be great together but it needs to be done right not in the batshit crazy cheesy cringe way the shippers demand, yikes. And sorry again for being a bitch in the past.

(2/3)Shippers who are like “and now kiss” or “oh that look they are going to become a thing” and a whole bunch of other BS annoy me so much. If the writers of any show are dumb enough to listen to that it would kill it fast (oh yeah ranting about the Magnum fandom). As a shipper (hahaha you probably hate me now sorry) I cringe when I see others behave like that, I think maybe there’s potential but kinda in a slow burn way (though not ultra show because way too slow and it would end like TIVA).1 (3/3) 2. If a ship is being done right the chemistry needs to build more over time and certain aspects need to change about the character. I just hate the “toxic shippers” who act all entitled wanting a relationship to just happen. Like no it needs to build and the characters need to grow and change slightly, though I can see the possibility of a relationship though I could also see one or two other possibilities that would probably make the psycho shippers burst into flames 😂😂

You know, I’ve held onto this for a long while because I wasn’t entirely sure how to answer it. It’s not even the people who basically mash characters together and don’t care about plot (though it does contribute). But I like watching some of my mutuals having their ‘ships that they follow and love and adore and I get these happy little moments of ‘awww, I just love them, look at their faces!’ or even talking with people about ‘oh, wouldn’t it be interesting if so and so wound up together? I think they could be good, etc’. People who have their happy little bubbles, and their happy little ships, and write their fun little coffee shop AUs where everyone gets to be happy....fine. It’s not my deal, just like dark, super angsty whump fic prrrrobably doesn’t fall into their orbit. It’s cool. 

I do not  like the little shitfucks who pop in just to harass people about either 1) preferring a different ship or 2) not liking their ship. I don’t like the people who get so fucking worked up about an imaginary character that they ruin real lives. Clearly, they don’t like getting that sort of hate, so their brave little selves show up on anonymous so I can’t (unless I feel like recalling OPSEC training that I wasn’t really paying attention to the first time around to back track their digital footprint to throw molotov cocktails at their very real front doors, but I am fundamentally lazy, so...). Shippers of that type are the reason why I stopped watching Voltron - you know, a goddamn kid’s cartoon. Because people were heinous and harassing the voice actors and the writers to the point that the creators didn’t want to work on it anymore. 

And the romance thing I hate because it’s quite often lazy writing, and they make it super melodramatic just for the sake of arguing or having something stupid to bring up later. Chloe and Lucifer = I adore. They spend four whole seasons, each character evolving, becoming better, finding out more about themselves, having real life problems and doubts and trying to decide if they even like who they are with their person. Those stories? I love. But that is pretty much the only one I can think of that didn’t make me shriek at the TV “JUST SHUT THE FUCK UP AND GET A GODDAMN PLOT”. I hate that media and shipping just ignores any other relationship. I hate that years of friendship are ignored or put on the back burner because ROMANCE. I hate the stupid, awkward ‘oh, well, we once slept together and now we have to work together and this is weird haha’ - no, it’s fucking garbage. I hate that once shippers decide ‘this is what I want to happen’ they don’t care about anything else. I hate that relationships are becoming these awful, horrid things where people just fight and bicker and break up and make up and just become an awful round robin of WHERE THE HELL DID THE STORY DISAPPEAR TO?! 

And it’s not like it can’t be done well. Like I said, Lucifer and Chloe. Danny Rand and Colleen Wing from Iron Fist (WHO I LOVE AND ADORE), Jessica Whitly and Gil Arroyo (talk about a trash fire where the least dramatic thing is almost having a moment with the guy who caught your serial killer ex-husband) in Prodigal Son, Martha and Francis from Mr. Right, Ty and Amy from Heartland, Jake and Leslie from Republic of Doyle, Danny and Lexi from Blood & Treasure, Jules and Shawn from Psych. And that’s just off the top of my head. 

Thomas and Higgins have potential, but not if writing is still bullshit. There are honestly some moments in episodes where I love how Higgins changes. I love the way that she takes one look at Thomas as he considers having to tell a woman that her newly wed husband died and immediately does it for him rather than making him be the one. That is a solid example of character growth and mutual understanding. I hate the constant fake dating, fake marriage, fake whateverflavoroftheweek. I would hate it in any show, but I really hate how they use it in this show because they just...ruin any progress she mad as a character, and any progress they made as writers. The next thing we’re going to have is a fake pregnancy, or a fake shared child, or some other equally awful crap that sidelines Rick and TC to their own spin-off within their own show, doing exactly what they made fun of Robin for doing to them in the pilot episode despite the ‘rolling like Musketeers’. 

And for anyone who thinks I just hate on Higgins, my least favorite episode is actually “Die He Said” which has nothing to do with her, but just...wtfuckery plot holes and shoddy writing. 

Just....ARGH. They’ve proven they can do this story and these characters justice, but then they just keep shooting themselves in the foot.

Chapter 6 : Summertime Sadness

“Okay, Party, so Dustin’s coming back home today and we gotta make a blast out of it! We’re gonna go over to him, all of us, I mean, and surprise him! And then, maybe we can go to the pool? It’s super hot outside and it’s gonna be so much fun! We never went together to the pool, did we?” I looked at the gathered kids in my living room. “It’s gonna be awesome! Haven’t gone to the pool before, actually. Since in Cali it was so hot, we’d just go to the beach all the time.” Max grinned, leaning on Lucas. “Hell yes! Let’s go, let’s go-” Lucas cheered, but was interrupted by Mike. “What about El?” he asked, frowning. “What about her?” I asked, raising an eyebrow in confusion. “She can’t go in public. It will attract attention to her and that’s not good. You know Hopper’s rules.” Mike whined, making us sigh a bit. “What Hopper doesn’t know won’t hurt him. Look at me, I’m out here doing whatever the hell I want. Nobody knows El, except for us, so what’s the big deal? I’ll cover for her, if needed.” I shrugged nonchalantly. “Do you even care about her and her safety?!” Mike yelled, making me glare at him. “If anyone understand El the best, it’s ME not YOU, Mike! We have the same background, the same problems, the same powers. But she is still a godamn 14 year old girl! She’s a teenager, she should go out of the house and have fun! What’s the big deal?! Chill and enjoy life!” I rolled my eyes, getting everything ready to go get El from home and raid Dustin’s house. “Mike, come on, calm down. You know Fox is always there for us. She won’t let El get hurt or be in danger.” Will tried to pacify him, hugging me. “Yeah, fine, whatever. Let’s just go get her and greet Dustin.” he grumbled, getting out of the house ahead of us. “Sheesh, lover-boy is moody…” I sighed, getting in the car to drive them all to El, pick her up, then go to Dustin.

Very soon after we got in the house, Dustin and his mum got here too, and while Dustin went to his room, letting nostalgia hit him a bit, I and El started making his toys make sounds and move towards the living room, where we lay hidden. Poor baby was super confused and scared at what was going on, and when he was inspecting the now non-functional toys, we sneaked up behind him and yelled “SURPRISE” or whistled at him, while Lucas was holding the “WELCOME HOME DUSTIN” cardboard.

Thing is…He got to scared that he used the spray in his hand to attack Lucas and all the spray went in his eyes.

Poor kid.

I laughed like an idiot.

Trying to calm him down, I went to hug him tightly, while everyone else was either laughing (the boys and El) or trying to help Lucas see (Max).

Problem is, he was so excited about showing us his new inventions from the science camp and to use Cerebro to chat with his girlfriend, that the plans of going to the pool kinda…Failed.

What a pity…

We had to take a looong time to go up a hill, but while walking there, Will seemed to stop and rub his neck a bit, while looking around a bit lost. I went to him and hugged him softly, petting his hair, looking concerned.

“Are you okay, honey?” I asked him gently, like you would talk to a baby fawn. “Yeah…Yeah, I guess I am. Don’t worry, I’m fine.” he reassured, nodding vigorously, making me chuckle at how adorable he was being. “You know you can talk to me if you need it, okay? One by one, they all started leaving, and I, too, had to, but I felt bad seeing Dustin’s ruined dreams. I, unlike the others, believed in Suzie, otherwise he wouldn’t have tried so hard to reach out to her.

“Hey, Dustin…I know she’s out there. I’m sure she’ll answer soon. But please go home, it’s getting late and your mum’s gonna worry. I don’t want you staying alone around here, okay? Come, I’ll drive you home. Also…Wanna go to the pool tomorrow? We wanted to go today, to celebrate you coming home, but seeing you so excited and happy changed our minds.” I got up, extending my hand for him to take so we can go home, and he nodded, a bit upset. “Okay, Fox…Are we gonna be all of us?” he asked, as I put a hand around his shoulder while he put his around my waist, slowly going down the hill to my car, with Will holding my other hand. “Well…Hope so. I don’t know about Mike and El…I guess with the new relationship and all, they’re a bit…Too obsessed with each other. And Mike worries about El’s safety.” I tried to say in a way so as Dustin won’t get upset. “But Lucas and Max weren’t like this! …I think. And you and Billy aren’t like this either!” Dustin protested, pouting slightly. “Haha, well…Lucas and Max are a bit more…Mature, to say it like that. They know their stuff and aren’t awkward and shy, like Mike is…And El is new to this world, so it’s no surprise. And I and Billy are 18, so it’s no surprise. We have experience and are emotionally and intellectually more mature than you are…And now that we graduated, we have more free time, despite out part time jobs, so we can hang out whenever we want and it won’t interfere with the Party hang outs and whatever.” I shrugged, reassuring him. “If Suzie were here, you’d have liked to impress and spend a lot of time with her too, right~?” I teased slightly, winking at him and laughing slightly when he turned red. “But…I don’t really like it…I mean, I get that we’re growing up and all that…But it’s not nice to forget or ignore your friends…” Will said in a low voice, pouting. “Awww, baby, I’m sorry…It’s okay, I understand it’s a difficult change, but it’s gonna be okay. Tomorrow we’ll go to the pool and it’ll be super fun, okay?” I kissed the top of his head, getting him in a side-hug. “Well…Then let’s do it!” Dustin cheered as he got in the car.

“I’m sorry they didn’t come too, Dustin…” I looked at him with a sad smile, but he shook his head. “Nahh, s'all cool, at least they won’t be too busy snogging and ew whatever.” he shrugged as both Will and Max dragged me to the pool. “Uhhh, c-can we, l-like, w-walk slower? I-I’m a bit shy, o-okay?” I stuttered a bit, looking left and right. “Oh, shush, Kat! You’re gorgeous and you gotta show off that body of yours! And that swimsuit brings out your eyes, okay?” Max encouraged, tugging on my arm. “Yeah, Kat, don’t be shy! Just, don’t think and focus on the fun we’re gonna have once we jump in the water!” Dustin cheered as we got to our lounge chairs and put or stuff there. “O-Okay, yeah, s-sure, it’s gonna be oka-” I began, nodding to myself and trying to encourage me, but that went down the drain once Max tugged on my arm and said, louder than I wished to, “Hey, look, Billy’s here!” which made me let out a soft yet shrill yelp, hiding my face with my hands and trying to hide behind Max, who, as soon as she saw her brother strut towards us, pushed me pretty harshly towards him, getting the gang to jump in the pool, making me stumble and have him catch me in his arms, chuckling. “Awww, look what I found, a Fox falling for me, how cute.” he teased, not letting me go from his embrace. “O-Oh, h-h-hey there! I-I didn’t s-see you here! Wh-What brings you here?” I manage to stutter, looking away from him, letting my hair cover my face. “Kat…I work here.” he deadpanned, making me slap my face. “R-Right…I forgot…” I tried to say, but he shook his head. “Nah, you didn’t forget. You’re just shying out again…And you’re adorable as hell.” he teased, playing with a strand of my hair. “N-No, I-I’m not.” I whispered, not able to say anything out loud, which made him chuckle. “How am I gonna work now when you look so fucking hot and I can only stand there and watch you. You’re so cruel, Kitten. SO cruel, that you don’t even know what you’re doing to me.” he flirted in a low, sensual voice in my ear, making me yelp and hide my face with my hands once again. “D-Don’t s-s-say that! I-It’s s-so embarrassing!” I blurt out, barely audible, making my legs tremble. “You have no idea how much I want to tease you right now…But alas, my shift started and I have to make sure all these fat cows come here as frequent as possible, so we can make money. I promised you we’d go on lotsa trips till we move back to Cali, and I’m not backing down from that promise.” he kissed me deeply, one hand on the back of my head, while the other on my waist, while mine rested on his chest, shaking slightly from embarrassment. “To think we’d be together for so long and you’d still blush like this from a simple kiss…Fuck, I’m a lucky son of a bitch…” he muttered in the kiss, making me giggle slightly. “I love you too, Billy.” I smiled up at him, but when I looked up, he had one of those evil smirks on his face, which made mine falter and try to walk backwards, but to no avail.

He had me trapped.

“Billy…Billy, no…Don’t do that…” I warned him with an awkward laugh, but he only shook his head and picked me up. “Sorry, babe, this is revenge for making me have a raging boner at work.” he chuckled, throwing me in the water as I let out a pitched shriek of shock, before swimming back to the surface. “YOU’RE SO DEAD, HARGROVE!” I yelled at him, but he paid me no mind and went to his lifeguard chair. “Jerk…” I muttered, swimming to the kids and having lots of splash wars, jumping in the water, having swimming competitions and so on.

By the end of the day, we went home, changed and went to Starcourt, the new Mall, going straight as Scoops Ahoy, ‘cause I promised the kids I’d get them Ice Cream, and they promised me a surprise, since I didn’t have the chance to go there until today.

Will guided me to the ice cream place, and as I was looking around, admiring the interesting decor, I hear a very familiar “Welcome to Scoops Ahoy, how may I-…Kat?!” that voice called out to me, snapping me from the trance I was in and gasping. “STEVE! Oh my God, no way! …How can you serve ice cream and not salivate?! Like…Whoa!” I laughed, going over the counter to hug him. “I guess I treated you guys to so much ice-cream in the last year of highschool that I got used to it.” he shrugged, smiling. “It’s good to see you again.” he smiled at me. “That’s a really nice working environment…But how do you deal with the people?! I couldn’t work in such a place. The animal shelter is doing me good, at least.” I chuckled, leaning on the counter. “Well…I get free ice cream whenever I want so…Worth it.” he winked, making me laugh. “Free ice cream for your friends too~?” I trailed on, batting my eyes jokingly. “Mhhh…Depends? Maybe? I will see~.” he shrugged mockingly, looking away. “Fine, fine, you win, King Ste-…Oh my god, who’s THAT?!” I asked, seeing a girl in the back, holding a white board with “You win” with 0 lines, and “You suck” with…A lot of lines. “You are, like, the most beautiful girl I’ve ever seen…Along with Nancy. H-Hi, I’m Kat…Uh, Katrina. Nice to meet you!” I smiled as I went to her extending my hand in her direction. “Look in the mirror, you’ll see something even better. I’m Robin, likewise.” she smiled softly. “How come someone as pretty as you knows someone as boring as him?” he chuckled, making me grin. “He gave me free ice cream and took care of me when I was going through a rough time. He’s like the mother I never had.” I laughed, ruffling his hair a bit. “Is this your new way of flirting, Harrington?” she rolled her eyes at him, making him put his hands up in defense. “Is it working…?” he asked in a low voice, looking like a lost puppy, which made both of us laugh at his reaction. “It’s not a bad start, I guess. Did it work on you, Kat? Don’t tell me he charmed you! Have I lost my chances?!” she mock-gasped, making me giggle and shake my head. “Hahaha, no, no…He’s my friend only…No offense, Steve!” I looked at him apologetically. “But, if I wasn’t already taken, I’d have dated you. I can feel you’re an amazing person.”  I smiled at her widely. “I’ll take that as a compliment, thanks~! So…Who’s the lucky guy?” she smirked, nudging me a bit.

From there, we went in the back, eating ice cream with the kids and gossiping about life and what not, before biding our farewells and going to look around the many shops at the mall and then back home. It was fun, I can’t lie, but sometimes, so much social interaction can be draining.

“Hey, baby, how are you?” Billy said in a low voice over the phone. “Oh, hey sugar! I’m good, I’m good, just looking over some cases from the shelter. I can’t get rid of homework even now, huh?” I laughed, holding the phone closer to me. “How are you, honey?” “I just called to hear your sweet voice. I missed you. We’ve been so busy with work this week…How about we go on the first trip on the 4th of July? The town’s gon’ be packed with people and all that stupid festival shit…” he trailed on, letting me fantasize with a huge grin on my face. “Oh, yes, that sounds like an amazing plan! I was never a fan of all the people on 4th of July, going at the mountains would be so fun!” I cheered, falling on the bed and rolling around excitedly. “Just you and me, my car and my guitar, singing Scorpions and AC/DC by the camp fire, making out in the tent and swimming in the lake nearby. Perfect trip, hmm~?” his voice lowering by an octave, sounding as suave as ever. “I can’t wait! Ahhh, it’s gonna be so much fun! And it’s like, in almost a week! Oh my god, I love you so much, can’t wait! The whole weekend, just us!” I couldn’t tone down my excitement no matter how much I tried. “And I love hearing you being happy. You’re giving my heart a huge boner. When we see each other again, Imma hug you so tight and not let go the whole day.” he chuckled softly. “I’m not complaining. Cuddling with you always helped me relax and sleep well. It’s so warm and urghhh I miss you, babyyy.” I whined a bit before giggling, imagining his done-with-life expression. “My Kitten is so cute, missing me like this. Don’t worry, babe, I’ll make it up to you, I promise. I gotta go now, duty calling. Love you.” he said before hanging up and leaving me thinking of the trip.

“Okay, so, let me get this straight! You two went yesterday at the mall and had fun…And then you met up with the Idiot Party…And you broke up with Mike for lying to you?” I asked, completely shocked and amused. “Yeah…I dumped his ass.” she nodded, completely innocent but also furious. “Well…You did the right thing, El. Max gives good advice, it seems. Also, I agree with her, Mike’s gonna come back running to you and begging on his knees to have you back. So don’t worry, he will apologise and explain pretty soon what’s the matter.” I shrugged, petting her hair. “Yeah, well, let’s forget about boys! Let’s play spin the bottle, but with a twist! We write names, and you and El can look into the person’s mind and see what they’re doing! Sounds fun?” she asked excitedly, bouncing on the bed. “Sounds good to me! Max, will you write the names?” I brought some sticky notes, gluing them on a cardboard.

Steve, Nancy, Mr. Clarke, Mrs. Wheeler, Dustin, Mr. Wheeler…And Billy.

“Why did you write Billy? What if he senses my presence?” I asked, a bit worried. “Don’t worry, he’ll just tease you. You can say you were testing your powers or something, he’s completely charmed when you talk or use them.” she shrugged. “Well…Don’t you think he’s been acting a bit…Strange, lately? He hasn’t called me in a few days and…I don’t know. I went to visit him at the pool, but he told me his shift just started and I should be careful of what’s about to come. It’s kinda creepy.” I muttered, looking down. “Kat, he’s never been in love, until he met you. He can be weird, I know, but I’m sure he’s fine. Come on, spin the bottle now!” she tried to hype me up, so I smiled briefly and used my powers to spin it, landing on Mr. Wheeler. “Uh…Do I really have to…?” I sweatdropped. “Ew, no, okay, he’s gross. Go again.” Max gagged,  spinning the bottle herself. “Well, ain’t this fate…?” I ushered  slightly, getting the scarf and preparing to go into Billy’s mind.

Sighing a bit, I started walking in the water, but I soon found his Camaro, but the windshield was smashed. I inspected it slightly, before hearing some whimpers, and rushing in that direction, Billy was crouching and reassuring someone on the floor. “Don’t be afraid, it will be over soon. Just stay very still” he told the girl whimpering…But I couldn’t see her, only hear her screams of despair that somehow made him turn around and look me directly into his eyes…His eyes were watery…He’d been crying…

Anxiety took over me so badly that I started panicking, seeing his form vanish in front of me whilst I tried to reach out… This isn’t good at all.

I ripped off the scarf from my eyes, used the back of my hand to wipe the blood tear from my face and jumped to my feet.

“I’m going to your house. Something isn’t right…Not at all.” I muttered frantically, trying to get them to come with me. “He’s not cheating on you, I promise.” Max tried to reassure me, but I shook my head, my eyes watering a bit. “I’m not scared about that, I know he’s not…I’m…I’m scared for his life…I think he’s in danger…And…L-Let’s just go, okay? Please.” I pleaded, making them look at each other and nod, rushing the my car as I drove them to Max’s home. “He’s car isn’t here…” El said, looking around, sensing my anxieties. “There’s was a girl’s scream…She seemed to be in agony…She was frightened…Crying…And Billy…He seemed scared…He had been crying…He seemed just like after each time Neil was a fuckass with him.” I bit my lip, rushing to his room and looking around. “Let’s search around then…If you say you’re worried, then might as well…” she sighed, going for the nearest drawer the open it. “DON’T OPEN THAT ONE-” I tried to warn her, but to no avail. “Urghh, gag me with a spoon…” she groaned, slamming the drawer shut. “Yeah…Experienced that first hand. Gross, I know.” I shuddered, looking away. “He likes it cold…” I muttered, putting my hands in the water-filled bath tub that had ice bags floating on it. “You don’t think…?” El asked, frightened, before Max cut us off. “It must be for his muscles. He works out like a maniac.” but her comment wasn’t reassuring in the least.

My sight was averted to a cupboard that had some blood on the handle, and inside, I found a bloody lifeguard whistle and a red fanny pack…Damn, that’s bad.

“I…I think we gotta go to the pool and find out whose bag this is…” I say unsure of what to do, and they approved, going to the car with rain coats.

There, two lifeguards greeted us in the most ignorant and rude way.

“No one in the water until 30 minutes after the last strike. And don’t try and argue with me. You wanna get electrocuted, go climb a tree.” the guy said, rolling his eyes annoyed. “Yeah, we don’t care. We’re not here to swim. Or get electrocuted. We found this. Does that belong to anybody?” Max asked, showing them the fanny pack. “Oh, yeah. That’s Heather’s. I’ll get it back to her.” he said eyeing the bag. “We could give it back to her.” Max implied, making him shake his head.  “You could. 'Cept she’s not here. Bailed on me today.” sighed, irritated at Heather. “Heather…Heather Holloway?” I asked, blinking at him confused. “Yeah, her. Y'know her?” he asked, almost intrigued. “Been to highschool together. Thanks for the tip, I’ll go give it to her, I know where she stays.” I explained, guiding the girls away from there. “Her picture is on the board…Do you think you can find her? What if she’s not at home?” Max asked, blinking at her picture. “Let’s see.” El muttered, ripping the picture and going to the showers, where we turned on all showers and waited for her to try and locate the girl.

It didn’t take El too long to find her, describing the weird red door that I remember she had at her house, but soon, she started panicking and freaking out, taking off the diver goggles.

“She…She asked for help…She was in a tub with ice…” she tried to explain, and my heart dropped. “This ain’t good at all…” I sighed, driving to where I remembered Heather staid. “Here we are…I guess. Do we…Do we knock or do we go in via powers?” I stumbled a bit around my words, looking left and right at the girls, but El used her powers, not saying anything. “Okay. If there’s someone inside, the door was open, we already knocked, and we are trying to give Heather the bag back, okay?” I revised the plan with the girl who only nodded.

We tip toed down the halls, until we heard laughter down the dining room, and what I saw there shocked all of us. Billy sat at the table with Heather’s parents laughing and chatting around. An uncomfortable silence took over as they looked at us…But I looked Billy in the eyes and I saw a certain emptiness and complete deceit.

This…This isn’t Billy.

Billy’s eyes have life. They have a sparkle for life, for happiness, for freedom, for fun.

This…Is simply…Dull.

“Kat. Max.” Billy said in a very uncharacteristically pleasant voice. “W-We are s-sorry to barge in like that. W-We knocked, but…Maybe you didn’t hear us b-because of the storm and the door was locked.” I said breathlessly, looking straight into Billy’s eyes. “I’m sorry, who is this dripping all over my living room right now?” Heather’s father asked. “I’m sorry. Janet, Tom, this is my sister, Maxine. And this, is my girlfriend, Katrina. What on earth are you doing here? Is something wrong?“ Billy explained, getting next to us and putting his arm around my waist, getting me close to him. "Beware.” he muttered into my ear so nobody could hear or see, making my eyes widen in shock. “We just wanted to make sure everything was okay.” Max explained, stumbling over her words, seeing that I couldn’t say anything. “Okay? Why wouldn’t it be okay?” Billy looked confused, bending down slightly too look at his sister. “Where is she?” El asked quickly, staring into his eyes. “I’m sorry. Where is who?” he asked in a low voice, staring back at her.  “Well, they’re a little burnt!” a voice called out of nowhere, revealing Heather holding a tray of cookies…Her eyes wide, empty, like that of a dead fish or some robot. “I’m sorry Heather! This is my sister, Maxine, my girlfriend, Katrina and, I’m sorry, I did not quite catch your name.” he deadpanned, looking at El again, as if he saw something intriguing. “El.” she said simply, not breaking eye contact. “El. Now, what is it you were saying, El? You were looking for somebody?” he asked again, in what looked like a mildly threatening voice.  “I-I saw - I saw you - ” she started, but I quickly cut her off. “We saw one of your co-workers at the pool. We found Heather’s lifeguard fanny pack on the ground and we wanted to give it back. I was her colleague in highschool and I remembered where she stayed. We’re sorry again for coming over like this. He…He said that she didn’t come to work and we got a bit worried. We’re sorry for the disturbance.” I found my words again, sparing El the awkwardness and the inconspicuous words she was gonna say. “Heather wasn’t feeling so hot today, so we thought we’d take the day off to nurse her back to health. But you’re feeling just fine right now, aren’t you, Heather?” Billy explained, looking me in the eyes, his expression barely changing.  “I’m feeling so much better. Do you girls want a cookie? They’re fresh out of the oven.” she barely gave us an obviously plastic smile, but we shook our heads, handed her back the bag and left in a hurry back home. “That was NOT okay. That was SO not okay…” I ranted, gripping the steering wheel like crazy. “Are you sure it wasn’t just you feeling a bit jealous?” Max tried, obviously a bit concerned for him too, but too scared to admit. “No. I don’t get jealous. Billy wouldn’t do that…He…He never calls you by your full name, and never calls me by my full name either…He barely even uses my name…And his eyes…Did you see his eyes? They were lifeless, Max! That wasn’t okay! We have to do something!” I tried to explain, my heart beating faster than ever. “Hey, don’t worry, maybe he just had to behave like that because of Heather’s parents. You saw how everything was super formal. Wanna have a sleepover? El’s sleeping at mine. Maybe it will help you calm down?” she suggested, but I shook my head. “No, Max, sorry…I can’t tonight. I’m worried too much. I’ll just go home and take a long bath to calm down, okay? Call me if you need anything, I’ll be there in a heartbeat…And mine are like a rabbit’s.” I tried to joke, but it only made me feel worse. “Okay then, if that’s what you think is right…But we’ll have so much fun! Right, El?” Max grinned, getting El inside her house, but it seemed to me like El felt the same way I did.

“Mike…? Mike, do you copy? I…I think this is a code red…Or maybe I’m just too worried…Mike, are you there?” I stuttered in the walkie talkie, waiting for an answer. “Fox? Yeah, I’m here, with Will and Lucas. What’s going on?” he asked, worriedly. “I…I…I think…I…Th-The Mind Flayer…I-I-I think it’s b-back.” I whispered between my forming sobs, hugging my knees to my chest, too scared to imagine. “WHAT?! No…No way…! Will…He mentioned the same…Okay, let’s call a meeting and we’ll see. Come over at mine, I’ll call the girls and we’ll see what to do, okay?” he answered reassuringly, and I only nodded, forgetting he couldn’t see it. “Mike…I’m scared…I-I don’t want it to be back…I…I think…I…” I began, before getting lost in my crying. “Fox? It’s Will. Fox…Do you think he possessed someone again?” Will asked me in a very soft and calm voice, just like I always did with him. “Y-Yeah…Th-That’s what s-scares m-me so much…” I managed to choke out. “And…You think…It could be Billy…?” he asked in a voice as gentle as possible, but hearing someone else say that made me drop the walkie and start crying loudly. “Y-Y-Yeah, I-I think i-it’s h-him…A-And I’m s-so scared…I-I don’t w-want it t-to be him…P-Please, Will…Please d-don’t let it be him…Not him…N-Not him, of all people…H-He’s been through e-enough…Please…” I begged, my head buried in my knees, sobbing like crazy. “Fox, come over, it’s gonna be okay, I promise you. Even if it is Billy, we will make sure we save him. We WILL save him, I promise. Fox, you promised you’d save me, and you did. I promise you now that we will save him, okay? I promise you.” Will declared in a very sure yet sweet voice, and I nodded, shakely getting up. “O-Okay, Will…I-I trust y-you…I’m coming over now…I…I hope you’re right.” I managed to calm down a bit and made my way to the car

OUAT 2x06: Rewatch Blog

Heeey everybody! Welcome to my rewatch liveblog of episode 2x06, “Tallahassee”. This one’s about the capital of Florida, which is called ‘The Sunshine State’ because there’s a lot of sunshine there when alligators aren’t eating you and/or meth addicts aren’t eating your face off.

Wait, what? Oh, my research team has just informed me that this episode isn’t actually about Florida at all - it’s about beanstalk adventures and flashbacks to Emma’s history with Neal. So no alligators most likely. Okay.

Well, let’s get started!

Well, this is off to a great start already! Every episode should start with Killian Jones tied up in some way, shape, or form. Nice!

“Freakier than I remembered from the story.” YOU AIN’T KIDDING.

“Reminds me of death.” Whoa, now that’s a little melodramatic.

I HAVE SUCH A BONE TO PICK AND I’M GONNA PICK IT RIGHT NOW.

Flashback Emma’s glasses really bug me. Like, we see NO sign of poor eyesight in any of the young Emma flashbacks, and no signs of poor vision in present day Emma. It’s like she developed poor eyesight for an isolated year or two in her late teens and it just... cleared up?

Oh, I know, I know, she could’ve switched to contacts. Right. However, we see no evidence of that, either. No glasses in the morning or late at night. No issues with spending an extended time in the Enchanted Forest without access to either glasses or proper contact lens care. No vision impairment on Princess Emma in S6 who wouldn’t have access to glasses OR contacts, etc, etc.

So maybe Lasik surgery? Okay, but how would she have access to an expensive medical procedure that insurance didn’t cover (assuming she even HAD insurance, which, given her age and financial situation, is doubtful)?

It’s like the writers gave her glasses as a cute little character quirk in this awkward “ugly duckling” stage of her life without having any idea how glasses and bad vision actually work. Which would be ridiculous, considering Adam and Eddy both fucking wear glasses.

...and then they went and did it again with Robin in S7. No glasses on her primary persona, but her cursed persona needs them to see. And after the curse is broken... she still apparently needs them. WTF, show?!

Okay, but that outfit is super cute, glasses and all.

Yellow Bug origin story, guys! Is there a ship name for Emma and her car? Like, SwanBug or something? There should be if there isn’t. It’s so pure <3

Hahaha, Neal, you little shit. That grin of his is kinda cute.

Not sure why antis pick on that line of Neal’s about women. I mean, I’m not a huge fan of his, but it’s pretty obvious he’s reading the cop and (correctly) guessing on how to play him to get him to let them off. And Emma even calls him on it immediately - and he basically implies that’s exactly what he was doing. Antis don’t make any sense sometimes.

Fun KW fact: Whenever I’m out and buy a new shade of lipstick, when I get home, I always discover it’s the same as all the other shades of lipstick I’ve bought, thinking they were different and so pretty. They’re all this color.

Colin sounds weird when he says, “You ready?”

...It’s Jorge!!! :D Hi Jorge!!! :D I love him! I loved him on Lost, too. He’s just got such a lovely smile. He not smilin’ now, tho. Looks kinda grumpy.

Him popping up. This scene is so silly and ridiculous. I confess, it’s not one of my favorites, because it kinda borders on cringey in it’s ridiculousness, but it’s also unintentionally hilarious, so...

This is a good scene. I don’t have much to say about it, but it’s a good scene. Laying the groundwork for the big reveal of Henry being in the room. Ooooh. Also, I love Snow looking after Aurora.

And Aurora’s tiara or hair decorations or... whatever that is... is so pretty.

“What’s your rush?” Hahaha, you adorable idiot. “How long do you think magic knock out powder lasts?” “I’ve no clue,” as he sniffs coins like a derelict. “That’s my rush.” Like, why does she even have to explain this to him? XD

“Everything we need is right in front of us!” Everyone always turns this into some kind of big CS line, but I always thought it just... triggered a memory for Emma, hence the segue into the next flashback. They weren’t even really facing each other when he said it, so I don’t think it was intended to be foreshadowing. Just my opinion, though. Not legally binding :P

that's the end of the episode!!! so here's what i think. i liked this episode because as you can see, i keep hanging on to every little thing and watching intensely!!! i do see a mystery going on here. it's unfolding piece by piece. i think this is a season where each episode will be a little more dramatic than the previous one. like each one builds on the drama created by the previous episode. clearly there are so many tensions and issues with these characters. things are going to explode...
