Let's me tell ya when I read In the academy au where Sanemi ripped up Genya certificate in front of the whole school I was just so angry like I genuinely want to hear from others how sad it was. I went to someone today talking about it and they said 'Sanemi did it out of love and shouldn't feel GUILTY' LIKE WHAT?! Sorry I needed to rant about this with someone

I understand how you feel! I was also super angry and upset when I read that in the kny highschool au. I’m upset in general with how Nemi treats Genya. I understand he’s doing it because he loves him but that doesn’t excuse his cruel way of doing so.

It reminds me so much of immigrant parents. How they are so harsh to their children because they want them to succeed and want what’s best for them. But in doing so, they often ignore and/or dismiss the children’s feelings and how pressured or uncomfortable they feel.

That’s definitely Genya and Sanemi. Sanemi thinking that being mean to Genya will discourage him enough to not join the corps and risk losing his life to demons but instead go off and live his life peacefully and die from old age instead. Yes, he’s doing it out of love but it’s definitely not the best way of going about it. It’s a flaw in Sanemi that I feel a lot of people don’t talk about. Yes, he’s a fictional character and they can be perfect lol, but they can also still have flaws. And I think flaws in characters often make them more interesting anyways bc it makes them more real and sometimes relatable. I also definitely think that if the whole demon thing didn’t destroy their family, Sanemi would be a lot kinder to Genya. (Though I think Sanemi would still be tough love and cynical bc he had an abuser father. And having an abusive parent can often make someone at least a little cynical lol)

or more accurately, fine sonic can have an obvious crush on her but i dont want ‘reverse sonamy’ to mean ‘amy doesnt have a crush on sonic.’ she can be lowkey about it or whatever (like sonic is sometimes in the games/other media) but to me part of Who She Is is that shes this super cool, super strong, intelligent fighter but shes also still a young girl who has crushes and believes in fate and is guided by her compassion, not by her strength or her mission or her love of adventure.

shes such a good character because while she is physically strong and possibly slightly magic, those are equally as important as her love and compassion and care for the world and people around her. preserving amys girlhood is important to me like loving sonic isnt her single defining character trait bc she ‘has to have a crush on a guy’ but it is a main character trait because thats just who she is. a loving person who sees the good in the world and wants to protect it and loves sonic because she sees him as the embodiment of that
