No hate but if you’re going to make a post that has hard to read text or specialized fonts or typing quirks in it, at least provide a readable plain text version. As the bare minimum. I’m not going to spend the next two minutes trying to decipher fancy text with a bunch of aesthetic symbols around it, thanks.

This is the story of a wounded Palestinian woman, a reflection of so many of us living in Gaza. Her hijab soaked in blood could be mine—her pain is mine. I am an oppressed and weak woman in Gaza, and I carry unbearable grief. My baby, Qais, was injured in the war, and the hospital refused to treat him because we don’t have the money. I am begging you with all that’s left in me—please help us. Your donation could be the difference between life and death for Qais. He needs urgent care and medicine that we simply cannot afford.
Life in Gaza crushes us every single day:
1. I wait in line for two hours to bring back food to our tent—food that’s barely enough to keep us going.
2. I clean the shoes of strangers in the street—just to earn a little money to buy Qais the medicine he needs.
3. We were turned away from the hospital—they told us no money means no treatment, even for a two-year-old child.
I carry this burden in silence, but I can’t keep going alone. I’m doing everything in my power to save my child, just as countless mothers here are doing for theirs. Without help, I’m afraid I will lose him. Please, donate anything you can—even the smallest amount could buy Qais a dose of medicine, a warm meal, or another chance to live. Share our story. Stand with us. Help me keep my son alive.
Please donate here

Chercia allows Jinx to take her hand, her other curling around the duckling and pulling it closer to her chest as her knight spoke. She bit her lip, listening. The conflict within her piling. Wrenn wouldn't lie about something like this. But then that would mean Chercia had been lied to her whole life by the man she trusted most. By the man who raised her. By her father.
Suddenly, that frightening expression on her father's face during their duel flashed in her mind and Chercia closed her eyes as though that would expel the image from sight. No. No....it couldn't be true. But if Tristan wasn't her father, then who? That man Wrenn mentioned? And who was her mother? And if what Qai said was an honest plea, that more of her family would be in danger, what does Tristan have to do with any of it?
"Alright...I'll go." She didn't know what to trust. But she wanted to see. She wanted answers. And she knows at least one person will be by her no matter what the truth ends up being. "As long as you're with me, Jinxie..."
Wrenn only watched as Jinx worked his way of convincing her, not bothering to interject. Whether Chercia ended up believing any of it or not, Wrenn was going to take her. She might hate him for it, but all that mattered right now was that she was safe and away from Tristan. Away from the rot of this palace before she was infected with the decay.
His eyes flicked toward the window again, giving Qai's hand an anxious squeeze, his other hand finding Jinx's shoulder in silent gratitude. "Come on, we're out of time."
Jinx's jaw was set as he watched Wrenn deliberate, then looked... out the window? But the knight didn't have time to question that, not before Wrenn dropped that massive bomb.
"What...?" Tristan wasn't Chercia's father? Apparently her actual father was here? That was... a lot to unpack. He was so stunned that he didn't even register the fourth person in the room, until they started speaking over the yelling.
And then both Wrenn and the stranger are looking at him for help, and Jinx suddenly feels very on the spot.
Gods... this was a lot for Jinx to take in, so he knows Chercia wasn't doing much better. But, if it was true... if they really weren't safe here...
"...Chia. Calm down and listen to me for a sec. Okay?" Turning to kneel in front of the princess, he takes her hand in his own, waiting until he has her attention. "I don't think he's lying. You know Wrenn wouldn't joke around about something like that. And if he's right, and it's not safe here..." He trails off, squeezing Chia's hand, then.
"I think... you should go with them. At least to get some answers... maybe it'll give you answers to what actually happened. And if none of this is true, we'll come right back." He gives her a reassuring little smile, then.
"I won't force you to do anything. But remember, no matter where you go, I'll be by your side, and protect you from anything and anyone. That's my oath as your knight--I'm your sword and your shield."
#{ chercia } ic#{ wrenn } ic#{ gilded cages } imperial au#fatestouch#(( Wrenn: We have to go ))#(( Chia: >:C NO ))#(( Qai: We have to go ))#(( Chia: >:C .... ))#(( Jinx: We should go ))#(( Chia: >:C..... ;n; fine. ))

Allah’s name Al-Haleem— The Most Forbearing, The Calm Abiding, The Most Kind and Gentle— occurs eleven times in the Quran. He is the One who keeps on bestowing blessings, both visible and hidden, even though we disobey Him. Al-Haleem can punish us instantly, yet how often He grants us respite in a mild and serene manner, giving us the chance to turn back to Him!
Most Forbearing, Calm Abiding, Most Kind and Serene
Haleem comes from the root Haa-laam-meem, which points three main meanings. The first main meaning is to be forbearing, lenient and to be forgiving and the second is to be calm and serene. The third main meaning is to be not hasty and exhibit moderation.
This root appears 21 times in the Quran in two derived forms. Examples of these forms are ahlaamin (dreams), al-huluma (puberty), ahlaamuhum (their minds), and haleemin (forbearing).
Linguistically, the concept of hilm refers to the patience that arises from a sense of deep serenity and lenience and the concept of sabr points to the patience that arises by self-restraint and enduring something without complaint. Al-Haleem: … observes disobedience to Him, yet anger doesn’t incite Him, nor does wrath seize Him, nor do haste and recklessness move Him to rush to take vengeance even though He’s utterly capable of doing that. [Al-Ghazali]
Al-Haleem Himself says: If you loan Allah a goodly loan, He will multiply it for you and forgive you. And Allah is Most Appreciative and Forbearing [Quran, 64:17]… And Allah is Forgiving and Forbearing. [Quran, 2:225]
Why does Al-Haleem delay punishment?
Al-Haleem Himself says: And if Allah were to punish people for what they have earned, He would not leave upon the earth any creature. But He gives them respite for a specified term. [Quran, 35:45] Al-Haleem can delay a punishment to give you time to return to Him, seek His forgiveness, and change your ways, because He is forbearing. He can even cancel your punishment altogether. Isn’t Al-Haleem acting out His love for us in an amazing way?
The hilm of people versus the hilm of Allah
Imagine that you got caught doing something bad, but the person let’s it slide and doesn’t punish you or embarrass you. Would you feel embarrassment, relief, and gratitude, telling them you’re not going to do it again and be grateful for their forbearance? What about Allah? Every single day we do things we shouldn’t, and in most instances He lets it go. Because He is Al-Haleem, His hilm is far above any forbearance a human being can ever show.
A beautiful similitude: parents and children
The parental system teaches us about Al-Haleem; the father and mother don’t have any rancour or hatred towards their children. In fact, they’re ready to sacrifice everything for their happiness. In this context Umar ibn al-Khattaab said: Some prisoners were brought to the Messenger of Allah, and there was a woman among the prisoners who was searching (for her child). When she found her child she embraced him and put him to her breast. The Messenger of Allah said to us, ‘Do you think that this woman would throw her child in the fire? We said, No, by Allah, not if she is able not to. The Messenger of Allah said, Allah is more merciful to His slaves than this woman is to her child. [Al-Bukhaaree, Muslim] Who imbedded the great mercy and tenderness in a loving mother’s heart? Allah Al-Haleem.
How Can You Live by This Name?
1. Be forbearing to others: contemplate and practice.
No matter your temper, everyone can practice developing forbearance. The Prophet salallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said to Ashajj ‘Abdu’l-Qays: You have two qualities which Allah loves: forbearance and steadiness. [Muslim]
Is it forbearance when you let it slide once or twice but explode the third time because you have so much rancour inside you? Many relationships get destroyed because of moments of rage. Hilm is when you’re in a position to show your anger but still hold it back. How? Let Al-Haleem inspire you. Another way is to simulate forbearance for the sake of Al-Haleem, even though you feel enraged. Tell yourself: I’m suppressing my anger because I love Him and seek His Love, because I want to be close to Him, and because I would like to obey His messenger.
2. Don’t take advantage of the hilm of Allah.
Al-Haleem says to the people who inherited a garden but didn’t let the poor benefit from it: Such is the punishment [of this world]. And the punishment of the Hereafter is greater, if they only knew. [Quran, 68:33] This punishment was a wake-up call for them and a mercy, because they realized their mistake. If Allah had allowed them to do as they wanted, their punishment in the Hereafter would be unforeseen. So know that Al-Haleem did set rules out for you and never take advantage of His forbearance.
3. Show a good example to a sinful person.
Never be arrogant to a sinning person and try to advise him gently and by showing a good example. Think to yourself: such a sinful person may, one day, turn to Al-Haleem with sincere repentance and become better and dearer to Allah than I am. Only put a person in check for the sake of Allah, so that they are made aware of the consequences of their actions and return to Allah.
4. Be grateful for the hilm of Allah.
Just like you would be grateful to anyone who overlooks your faults and mistakes, recognize the extreme and intense forbearance of Al-Haleem towards you and return to Him after you sin. And as a way of being thankful to al-Haleem for His forbearance, remember to train yourself to be forbearing.
5. Make dua for hilm.
Make dua to Al-Haleem, asking Him for His forbearance for yourself and your loved ones. And ask Him to forgive you, because only He can protect you from His justified anger.
O Allah Al-Haleem, we know You are the Most Forbearing and You delay and cancel Your Punishment with great Wisdom. Protect us from taking advantage of Your Hilm by persisting in bad deeds, aid us to return to You after we sin, adorn us with gratitude for Your Forbearance and patience in hardships, make us of those who are forbearing and kind to others, never be arrogant and help us to develop hilm in times of anger, ameen!

Light's Acolyte
The Brigade has been going through the Apprenticeship period during the entire month of April. This annual tradition sees mentors visit the Brigade Academy and hopefully get paired with apprentices who show aptitude for their arts and the potential to learn their ways.
Qai, Light's Acolyte, has visited the Academy and managed to find an apprentice, young Micah. We shall see if she manages to teach the boy, as he's so far expressed interest in becoming a chef, despite having a fair bit of potential for the priestly arts.

An Old Friendship (Wattpad | Ao3)
Morocco and America's friendship, requested by Its_2am. Bold is English.
“It’s always lovely visiting your country, Qais. It’s so beautiful.” America said as he and Morocco walked through the streets of Rabat. Morocco snorted in amusement.
“Please, we both know you’re only here for the food,” Morocco said. America shrugged.
“Guilty. But how could I not? You’re the greatest chef I know, and I adopted Louis,” America said. Morocco shot him a teasing look.
“Ooo, better not let Louis hear that. Pretty sure it would be an insult to his pride.”
“Please, my kids can turn anything I say into an insult. It’s a national pastime of theirs.” America pointed out. Morocco laughed.
“You’re not wrong about that. I remember all the letters I used to get from you after your original thirteen got bodies. ‘Morocco, you were the first to recognize me, and I don’t trust France. How do you take care of children?’ And then the Barbary Wars happened,” Morocco said.
“An exciting start to a boring friendship.”
“Please, like I’m not the closest friend you have,” Morocco snarked.
“Well, Cuba did know about our DID first,” America pointed out with a mischievous grin.
“Please. That was only because Cuba lived with you for four years, and you all were determined to keep people you liked from finding out because you cared so much about my friendship you didn’t want to lose it.” America shrugged.
“Yeah, fair enough. Where are we going to eat, by the way? I’m hungry.”
“We’re going to a little family-owned place. You’ll love it.” Morocco said. America grinned.
“I always do. Well, aside from that one place that gave me food poisoning. That sucked.”
“I’m still sorry about that,” Morocco said with a slight wince. That had not been a fun night for either of them.
“Oh, don’t be. Lord knows my kids have given me food poisoning at least once a year.” America said, waving his hand dismissively.
“Aside from Louis and Tex.”
“Of course, of course. They’re almost better chefs than you,” America said.
“Good to know I still rank first on your chef list. It explains why you show up at my house at three am.”
“Oh, come on, that was once,” America protested.
“It shouldn’t be happening to begin with,” Morocco said, giving America a pointed glance.
“Hey, you’re the one who gave me your address.”
“Yeah, but it wasn’t a request for you to break in,” Morocco said.
“Well, someone has to keep you on your toes,” America said.
“I got colonized by Spain and France,” Morocco said. America winced.
“In a friendly way?” he corrected.
“For that, you’re paying at the place,” Morocco said.
“What? Qais, that’s not fair! It’s your country!” America protested.
“Well, I’ve been a country for longer, so treat your elders respectfully and buy them food.” Morocco pointed out. America rolled his eyes.
“Yeah, but I’m older by like fifty years or whatever,” America said. Morocco felt his lips quirk into a slight grin.
“Or whatever. Real specific, Finn.”
“I’m ending our peace treaty.” America deadpanned.
“Please, you wouldn’t know how to handle yourself if it wasn’t for me,” Morocco said, bumping his hip against America’s, who rolled his eyes again, although there was a fond smile on his face.
“Yeah, yeah, sure,” America said, “Thanks for being there.”
Morocco smiled again, pulling his oldest friend into a small side hug.
“It’s my pleasure.”

Tafsir Ibn Kathir: Surah Al-Kahf Ayah 60-65
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
18:60 And (remember) when Musa said to his boy- servant: "I will not give up until I reach the junction of the two seas or a Huqub passes.''
18:61 But when they reached the junction of the two seas, they forgot their fish, and it took its way through the sea as in a tunnel.
18:62 So when they passed further on, Musa said to his boy-servant: "Bring us our morning meal; truly, we have suffered Nasaban in this, our journey.''
18:63 He said: "Do you remember when we betook ourselves to the rock I indeed forgot the fish; none but Shaytan made me forget to remember it. It took its course into the sea in a strange (way)!''
18:64 (Musa) said: "That is what we have been seeking.'' So they went back retracing their footsteps.
18:65 Then they found one of Our servants, on whom We had bestowed mercy from Us, and whom We had taught knowledge from Us.
The Story of Musa and Al-Khidr
Allah tells:
And (remember) when Musa said to his boy-servant:
The reason for Musa's conversation with the boy-servant, Yusha` bin Nun, was that he had been told about one of the servants of Allah at the junction of the two seas, who had knowledge which Musa had not been granted, so he wanted to travel to meet him. So he said to that boy- servant of his:
I will not give up,
meaning, I will keep on traveling,
until I reach the junction of the two seas, meaning, the place where the two seas met.
or a Huqub passes.
meaning, even if I have to travel for a very long
time.
Ibn Jarir (may Allah have mercy on him) said,
"Some of the scholars of the Arabic language said that Huqub means a year in the dialect of (the tribe of) Qays,''
then he narrated that Abdullah bin Amr said, "Huqub means eighty years.''
Mujahid said, "Seventy years.''
Ali bin Abi Talhah reported that Ibn Abbas said that; it means a lifetime.
Qatadah and Ibn Zayd said likewise.
But when they reached the junction of the two seas, they forgot their fish,
He had been commanded to carry a salted fish with him, and it had been said to him, when you lose the fish, that will be a sign that you have reached the right place. So they set out and traveled until they reached the junction of the two seas, where there was a spring called `Ayn Al-Hayat (the Spring of Life).
They went to sleep there, and the fish felt the drops of that water, so it came back to life. It was in a vessel with Yusha`, upon him be peace, and it jumped out of the vessel towards the sea. Yusha` woke up and the fish fell into the water and started to swim through the water, leaving a track or channel behind it.
Allah said:
and it took its way through the sea as in a tunnel. meaning, like going through a tunnel on land.
Ibn Jurayj said,
"Ibn Abbas said, `It left a trace as if it were a rock.'"
So when they had passed further on,
means, past the place where they had forgotten the fish.
Forgetfulness is attributed to them both even though it was actually Yusha` who forgot.
This is like the Ayah:
Out of them both come out pearl and coral. (55:22),
although they come from the salt water, according to one of the two opinions.
When they had passed one stage beyond the place where they had forgotten the fish,
(Musa) said to his boy-servant: “Bring us our morning meal; truly, we have suffered in this, our journey,
meaning, their journey beyond the place where they should have stopped.
Nasaban,
means, exhaustion.
He said: “Do you remember when we betook ourselves to the rock I indeed forgot the fish; none but Shaytan made me forget to remember it...’’
Then he said,
It took its course, meaning its path,
“...into the sea in a strange (way)!’’
(Musa) said: “That is what we have been seeking.’’ meaning, this is what we have been looking for.
So they went back, retracing their footsteps.
Then they found one of Our servants, on whom We had bestowed mercy from Us, and whom We had taught knowledge from Us.
This was Al-Khidr, peace be upon him, as is indicated by the authentic Hadiths narrated from the Messenger of Allah.
Al-Bukhari recorded that Sa`id bin Jubayr said,
“I said to Ibn Abbas: `Nawf Al-Bikali claims that Musa, the companion of Al-Khidr was not the Musa of the Children of Israel.’
Ibn `Abbas said, `The enemy of Allah has told a lie.’
Ubayy bin Ka`b narrated that he heard the Messenger of Allah say,
Musa got up to deliver a speech before the Children of Israel and he was asked, “Who is the most learned person among the people?’’
Musa replied, “I am.’’
Allah rebuked him because he did not refer the knowledge to Allah.
So Allah revealed to him: “At the junction of the two seas there is a servant of Ours who is more learned than you.’’
Musa asked, “O my Lord, how can I meet him?’’
Allah said, “Take a fish and put it in a vessel and then set out, and where you lose the fish, you will find him.’’
So Musa took a fish, put it in a vessel and set out, along with his boy-servant Yusha` bin Nun, peace be upon him, till they reached a rock (on which) they both lay down their heads and slept. The fish moved vigorously in the vessel and got out of it and fell into the sea and there it took its way through the sea (straight) as in a tunnel.
Allah stopped the flow of water on both sides of the way created by the fish, and so that way was like a tunnel.
When Musa got up, his companion forgot to tell him about the fish, and so they carried on their journey during the rest of the day and the whole night.
The next morning Musa said to his boy-servant,
“Bring us our morning meal; truly, we have suffered much fatigue in this, our journey.’’
Musa did not get tired till he had passed the place that Allah had ordered him to look for. His boy- servant then said to him,
“Do you remember when we betook ourselves to the rock I indeed forgot the fish; none but Shaytan made me forget to remember it. It took its course into the sea in a strange way.’’
There was a tunnel for the fish and Musa and his boy-servant were amazed. Musa said,
“That is what we have been seeking.’’ So they went back retracing their footsteps.’’
So they went back retracing their steps until they reached the rock. There they found a man covered with a garment.
Musa greeted him.
Al-Khidr said, “Is there such a greeting in your land!’’
Musa said, “I am Musa.’’
He said, “Are you the Musa of the Children of Israel?’’
Musa said, “Yes,’’ and added, “I have come to you so that you may teach me something of that knowledge which you have been taught.’’
Al-Khidr said, “You will not be able to have patience with me.
O Musa! I have some of Allah’s knowledge which He has bestowed upon me but you do not know it; and you too, have some of Allah’s knowledge which He has bestowed upon you, but I do not know it.’’
Musa said,
“If Allah wills, you will find me patient, and I will not disobey you in aught.’’
Al-Khidr said to him,
“Then, if you follow me, ask me not about anything till I myself mention it to you.’’
So they set out walking along the shore, until a boat passed by and they asked the crew to let
them go on board.
The crew recognized Al-Khidr and allowed them to go on board free of charge.
When they went on board, suddenly Musa saw that Al-Khidr had pulled out one of the planks of the ship with an adz.
Musa said to him, “These people gave us a free ride, yet you have broken their boat so that its people will drown!
Verily, you have done a terrible thing!
“Al-Khidr said, “Did I not tell you, that you would not be able to have patience with me!’’
Musa said, “Call me not to account for what I forgot and be not hard upon me for my affair (with you).‘’
The Messenger of Allah said,
In the first instance, Musa asked Al-Khidr because he had forgotten his promise.
Then a bird came and sat on the edge of the boat, dipping its beak once or twice in the sea. Al- Khidr said to Musa, “My knowledge and your knowledge, in comparison to Allah’s knowledge, is like what this bird has taken out of the sea.’’
Then they both disembarked from the boat, and while they were walking on the shore, Al-Khidr saw a boy playing with other boys.
Al-Khidr took hold of the boy’s head and pulled it off with his hands, killing him.
Musa said to him,
“Have you killed an innocent person who had killed none! Verily, you have committed a thing Nukr!’’
He said, “Did I not tell you that you would not be able to have patience with me’’
(The narrator) said, "The second blame was stronger than the first one''.
Musa said, "If I ask you anything after this, keep me not in your company; you have received an excuse from me.'' Then they both proceeded until they came to the people of a town. They asked them for food but they refused to entertain them.
(Then) they found there a wall on the point of falling down.
(Al-Khidr) set it up straight with his own hands.
Musa said, "We came to these people, but they neither fed us nor received us as guests. If you had wished, surely, you could have taken wages for it!''
(Al-Khidr) said: "This is the parting between you and I. I will tell you the interpretation of (those) things over which you were unable to be patient.''
The Messenger of Allah said:
We wish that Musa was patient so that Allah would have told us more about both of them.
Sa`id bin Jubayr said:
"Ibn Abbas used to recite (Ayah no. 79),
There was a king before them who seized every good-conditioned ship by force.
and (Ayah no 80)
As for the boy, he was a disbeliever and his parents were believers.
Then (in another narration) Al-Bukhari recorded a similar account which says:
...then Musa set out and with him was his boy- servant Yusha` bin Nun, and they had the fish with them. When they reached the rock, they camped there, and Musa lay down his head and slept. At the base of the rock there was a spring called Al-Hayat; its water never touched a thing but it brought it to life. Some of its water touched the fish, so it began to move and jumped out of the vessel and into the sea. When he woke up, Musa said to his boy-servant:
Bring us our morning meal.
Then he quoted the rest of the Hadith.
Then a bird came and perched on the edge of the ship, and dipped its beak in the sea, and Al-Khidr said to Musa,
"My knowledge and your knowledge and the knowledge of all of creation, in comparison to the knowledge of Allah, is like what this bird has taken from the sea.''
Then he mentioned the rest of the report.

Qays and Layla's story (Majnun Layla)
There are many versions of this story depicting their own ideas and scenarios, however I wanted to find out the real story of the famous Majnun Layla. It is an old story of Arab origin around the 7th century about Qays ibn-almulawwah and his cousin Layla bint-mehdi (known as 3amiriya). This love story began since childhood as they used to herd their sheeps. They started falling in love however, the two started growing and around that time, women didn't go out much as it was prohibited and seen as shameful.
Qays started composing poems about her, often mentioning her name and reading them out loud on streets. Layla and Qays would stop seeing each other eventually and it caused Qays to be heart-struck, nonetheless not losing any hope. He decided to ask her hand in marriage and propose to her father. He asked for a very expensive price for his daughter just so Qays would give up on her and leave her be. Despite the very expensive mehr, Qays was deeply in love with Layla that he worked many jobs just to collect enough money for Layla's mehr and marry her.
When Qays would feel exhausted at times he would remember Layla and how they passed their childhood. He consoled himself with their memories and recite this poem:
"احبك حب قد تمكن بالحجر له بين جلدي والعظام ظبيبو"
Meaning: "I love you such a love that is embedded in the stone and is between my skin and bones",
At this point, Qays saved enough for Layla's mehr and returned to his hometown, just to discover that his precious Leyla got married to another man called Ward. He noticed red henna on her hands which at that time meant that she was married. He said this poem:
"ولمّا تلاقينا على سفح رامة وجدت بنان العامرية أحمرا فقلت: خضبت الكف على فراقنا؟ قالت: معاذ الله ذلك ما جرى ولكنني لما رأيتك راحلاً بكيت دماً حتى بللت به الثرى مسحت بأطراف البنان مدامعي فصار خضاباً في اليدين كما ترى"
Which means: "When we met on the top of a hill I found Al Amiriya's (Layla) fingers red And I said: did you colour your hands in celebration of our separation? She said: God forbid, that did not happen But when I saw you leaving I cried blood until I wet the sand I cleaned my tears with my fingers And they became red as you can see ".
Qays was so devastated and heartbroken because he had no more hope for Layla and was so depressed that he wished he would die. During this time, Qays would visit her house every night crying and saying:
أَمُرُّ عَلى الدِيارِ دِيارِ لَيلى" أُقَبِّلَ ذا الجِدارَ وَذا الجِدارا وَما حُبُّ الدِيارِ شَغَفنَ قَلبي وَلَكِن حُبُّ مَن سَكَنَ الدِيارا"
Which means: "I pass by the home of Layla ( where she used to live) And I kiss this wall and that wall It is not for the love of the house But for the one who lives in it"
Qays was severely depressed and stayed in the desert for a while and was starting to lose his sanity. He wished to see Layla's reflections and so he would stop eating or drinking anything his family would bring him hoping of seeing her shadow. He would say:
"وَإِنّي لَأَستَغشي وَما بِيَ نَعسَةٌ لَعَلَّ خَيالاً مِنكِ يَلقى خَيالِيا"
Which means: "Perhaps I could sleep just For my shadow to meet yours"
One day, he hallucinated and saw Layla running and started following her and he passed in front of a group of men performing prayer. He came to his senses and walked back to where he came from and the men stopped him asking, "Why did you not stop to come pray with us when you saw us?". He answered "I swear by God I did not see you praying as I was focused on Layla, and if you were in love with God as I am with Layla, you too would've not seen me and would have focused on your prayer". The men called him "Majnun Layla" which mean "crazy about Layla" because Qays really lost it and wasn't himself anymore.
His father decided to take him to Mecca and perform Hajj together and so they went. He would ask the men there to make duaa "pray" for his son because he has fallen in love with this girl and has basically lost his wits and for God to make it easy for Qays to forget Layla. However, Qays would go talk to the people his father was standing with and tell them to not believe his father and instead tell them:
"يا راب لا تاسلبني حوباها ابادان زيدني ليلى حوبان وا بها كيلفاتً وا لا تانسيني ديكراها ابادان وا يارحاما الله عبدان قالا امين"
Which means: "My God don't ever make me forget her love Increase my love for Layla And make it heavy And don't make me forget her memory ever And God forgive the ones that say amin"
The crowd followed Qays and started saying Amin. His father was angry and so he beat him. His family would call Layla ugly and short and asking him what do you like about her when there are better women. Qays answered them:
"يقولون لي الواشون ليلى قاسيراتٌ فلايتو درعا عاردو ليلى وا توليها"
Which means: " They tell me Layla is short, for I (would love her even if) the width and length of her arm (were the same)"
Qays implies that even if Layla was a square he would still deeply love her. One day Qays went to Ward and asked if he hugged or kissed her that day, Ward saw that he was a madman and decided to answer him saying yes he did hug and kiss Layla. Ward was with his friends around a fire and Qays lost his senses and put his hands in the fire till the it gave the scent of burned flesh. Time passed and Qays received news that Layla is sick in Iraq and said:
"يقولون لايلى مريضة بلعراق الا ليتني كنت الطبيب لمداويا"
Meaning: "They say Layla is sick in Iraq and I wished to be the doctor (treating her)"
"ألست وعدتني يا قلب أني إذا ما تبت عن ليلى تتوب؟ فها أنا تائبٌ عن حبِّ ليلى فما لكَ كلَّما ذُكرت تذوبُ ؟"
Meaning: "Didn't you promise me, my heart, that you would repent on Layla? And here I am repenting on Layla's love But why is it every time she is mentioned you melt?"
After some more time he received news that she passed away. He kept looking around for her grave and sat next to her until some people realised that he had died there. When they found him, next to him was a letter. In it was written:
" وقد يجمع الله الشتيتين بعدما يظنان كل الظن أن لا تلاقيا"
Meaning: "And God unites dispersed people when they totally think that they would never meet" Qays and Layla may have not united in life, however they united under the earth as their graves are next to each other.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hNltnEU8tow
Ps: That is the poem when Qays returns and finds Layla married with red henna on her hands.

Al-Haleem: . . . observes disobedience to Him, yet anger doesn’t incite Him, nor does wrath seize Him, nor do haste and recklessness move Him to rush to take vengeance even though He’s utterly capable of doing that. [Al-Ghazali]
Al-Haleem Himself says: If you loan Allah a goodly loan, He will multiply it for you and forgive you. And Allah is Most Appreciative and Forbearing [Quran, 64:17]. . . And Allah is Forgiving and Forbearing.

The Life of The Prophet Muhammad(pbuh): The Battle of Uhud and Afterwards
The Battle of Uhud: Part 3
Rejecting the Help of the Jews
The Islamic army arrived at Thaniyya Hill. At that point, the Prophet looked behind and saw a crowded military unit consisting of archers. He asked, “Who are they?”
The mujahids said, “A group of six hundred people from the allies of Abdullah b. Ubay”.
The Messenger of God asked, “Have they adopted Islam?”
When they said, “No! O Messenger of God!”, he said, “Go and tell them to return. We do not need their help!”
The Prophet Inspects the Army
When the Islamic army arrived at Shaykhayn Hills, the Messenger of God stopped and inspected his army. Meanwhile, he sent back about fifteen children, who were too young.
However, some of them did not want to leave the ranks of mujahids and wanted to fight against polytheists although they were very young. One of them was Rafi’ b. Khadij. He wanted to seem taller by standing on his toes. A Companion said, “O Messenger of God! Rafi is a good archer” and Rafi did not want to leave the army. Thereupon, the Prophet allowed him to stay in the army.
When Samura b. Jundub, another young Companion, saw that his friend, Rafi, was accepted to the army, he said to his father, “Dad! The Messenger of God allowed Rafi but refused me. However, I can beat him in wrestling!”
His father, Muray b. Sinan, talked to the Messenger of God about it. The Prophet wanted them to wrestle. When he saw that Samura beat Rafi in wrestling, he allowed Samura to join the army, too. Those young Companions, who were only about fifteen years old, wanted to be among the ranks of the mujahids against polytheists enthusiastically.
The Night Spent in Shaykhayn
When the inspection of the Prophet ended, the sun was about to set. Soon, Bilal al-Habashi called the evening adhan. The Messenger of God led the evening prayer. They performed the night prayer in the same way. The Prophet was going to spend the night there. He appointed a patrol group of fifty people to protect the army and to check around.
A Companion Keeps Watch at Night for the Prophet
After leading the night prayer, the Messenger of God said, “Who will keep watch tonight for us?
A voice was heard among the Mujahids, “I will, O Messenger of God!”
The Prophet asked, “Who are you?”
The same voice answered, “I am Zakwan b. Abdi Qays.”
The Messenger of God ordered, “Sit; do not keep watch!”
After a while, the Prophet asked again, “Who will keep watch tonight for us?”
A voice was heard among the Mujahids, “I will, O Messenger of God!”
The Prophet asked, “Who are you?”
The same voice answered, “I am Abu Sab.”
The Messenger of God said to him, “Sit; do not keep watch!”
After a while, the Prophet asked for the third time, “Who will keep watch tonight for us?”
A voice was heard among the Mujahids, “I will, O Messenger of God!”
The Prophet asked, “Who are you?”
The same voice answered, “I am Ibn Qays.”
The Messenger of God ordered, “Sit; do not keep watch!”
After a while, the Messenger of God said to them, “Stand up! Three of you!”
Only one person stood up. He was Zakwan b. Abdi Qays.
The Messenger of God asked him, “Where are your other friends?” He said, “O Messenger of God! It was I who answered your question three times!”
Thereupon, the Messenger of God said to him, “Go and keep watch for us. May God protect you!”
Zakwan put on his armor, took his shield and kept watch all night near the Prophet.
That Companion had introduced himself by using his own name first, his son’s name after that and his father’s name in the end.
Islamic Army in Uhud
Toward the morning, the Prophet and his army left Shaykhan and headed toward Uhud. At that point, both armies could notice each other.
The enemy seemed over there. Among the ranks of the mujahids, the sound of the adhan of the morning prayer went up to the sky in waves. The Muslims prayed behind the Messenger of God in ranks without taking off their arms before the eyes of the enemy.
Meanwhile, the Prophet put on armor on his armor and a helmet on his cap as a precaution.
Munafiqs Leave the Army
In the end, the two armies faced each other. Both armies were busy with the war order.
Meanwhile, Abdullah b. Ubay b. Salul, who came up to that place hesitantly and in fear, came forward and said, “Muhammad listened to the young people who had no right to express their views but he did not listen to me. O people! I cannot understand it. Why should we die here?” Then, he returned with about three hundreds soldiers from his own tribes and munafiqs (hypocrites).
When munafiqs left, the number of the Islamic army was reduced to seven hundred; which was about one-fourth of the Qurayshi army.
Abdullah b. Ubay not only left the Islamic army with a group of munafiqs, he also tried to affect other Muslims. When Sons of Salima of the Khazraj tribe and Sons of Haritha of the Aws tribe saw that Abdullah b. Ubay was returning, they wanted to return, too. However, God’s help arrived and freed them from hesitation.
The following is stated in the Quran regarding the issue:
اِذْ هَمَّتْ طَـاﱑﱒﯶئِفَتَانِ مِنْكُمْ اَنْ تَفْشَلَاﮋ وَاللّٰهُ وَ لِيُّهُمَاﮈ وَﱰاللّٰهِ فَلْيَتَوَكَّـلِ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ
“Remember two of your parties meditated cowardice; but God was their Protector, and in God should the Faithful (ever) put their trust.”
The Verse Sent down about Munafiqs
When the munafiqs left the Islamic army in the battle field and returned to Madinah, the following verses were sent down:
“What ye suffered on the day the two armies met, was with the leave of God, in order that He might test the Believers. And the Hypocrites also. They were told: “Come, fight in the way of God, or (at least) drive (the foe from your city).” They say, “Had we known there would be a fight, we should certainly have followed you. They were that day nearer to Unbelief than to Faith, saying with their lips what was not in their hearts. But God hath full knowledge of all they conceal!”
Mukhayriq Joins the Islamic Army
Mukhayriq was a great Jewish scholar. He had a great wealth in Madinah.
He knew the Messenger of God through his properties in holy books. However, he did not reveal those properties because he was afraid of his nation and because he could not free himself from the effects of his religion. He continued to act like this until the Battle of Uhud.
It was when the Messenger of God set out for the Battle of Uhud with the mujahids.
Mukhayriq, who did not reveal what he knew up to that time, said, “O People of Jews! I swear by God, you know that it is your duty and right to accept that Muhammad is a prophet and that you have to help him!”
The Jews said, “It is Saturday! We will not do anything.”
Thereupon, Mukhayriq took his sword and some money with him. He said to one his relatives, “If I am killed today, all of my possessions will belong to Muhammad! He can do whatever he wants with my property.” Then, he joined the Islamic army. He fought against polytheists until he was martyred.
Thereupon, the Messenger of God said, “Mukhayriq is a good person of the Jewish nation.”
The property of Mukhayriq that was transferred to the Prophet based on the will of Mukhayriq was the seven gardens called Bisab, Safiya, Dalal, Husna, Awaf, Burqa and Mashraba.
Having received the property of Mukhayriq, the Prophet endowed all of them. His foundations in Madinah were mostly of the property of Mukhayriq.

🍂🥀🍂 Karbala and Ashura
🥀 Stops on the Imam’s Journey
🥀 Tan’im
The Imam left Mecca, and at Tan’im he met a caravan which carried luxury goods and royal robes and gowns. It was a delivery for the “king”, Yazid Ibn Muawiyah from his governor at Yemen. The Imam ordered that all the cargo of the caravan be taken and given to poor people.
He said, “Who is to have this luxury while poor people starve?” Then, he announced to the people and to the workers on the caravan, “Whoever wants to come with us, is welcome, and whoever wants his wages, we will give him his pay, and whoever wants to leave is free to leave.”
The Imam and his followers took none of the silk robes and royal gowns woven with gold thread. Those who wanted their pay received their portion and the rest was immediately given to poor people.
🥀 Safah
Here, a man was on his way to Mecca for the Hajj pilgrimage. The man came closer and asked someone, “Whose caravan is this?” And he was informed that it was the camp of Imam Husayn. To himself, he thought that he should pay his greeting of peace to the grandson of the Messenger of God.
The Imam asked him, “Who are you?” He replied, “I am al-Farazdaq, son of Ghalib.”
The Imam greeted the famous poet kindly, then after some time, he asked him, “What do you know about the attitude of the people?”
Al-Farazdaq answered, “Their hearts are with you, but their swords are with the Umayyads, and the destination comes from heaven.”
Imam said, “You spoke the truth, and everything is up to God. He does what He wishes, and we ask help only from Him.” Then, al-Farazdaq asked him some religious questions.
🥀 Dhat al-‘Irq
The Imam set camp here, and met Bishr Ibn Ghalib. When Bishr met the Imam, he saw him leaning on something, reading a book. Bishr asked him, “O grandson of the Messenger of God! What made you come to this desert?”
The Imam replied, “These people have threatened me and these letters arrived from the people of Kufah whom I know are going to turn against me. If they do so, God will send someone to humiliate them.”
The Imam asked him about the people of Kufah and he replied, “Their swords are with the Umayyads and their hearts are with you.”
The Imam said, “You are speaking the truth.”
🥀 Hajir
Here, the Imam set camp. He wrote a letter to Muslim Ibn ‘Aqil and gave it to Qays Ibn Mashar al-Saydawi to take to Kufah. In it he wrote, “O people of Kufah! I have received the letter of Muslim Ibn ‘Aqil stating that you have gathered to help us and ask for our rights. I ask Almighty God to reward you for this action. For this reason, I left Mecca on Thursday the 8th of Dhul-Hijjah. When my messenger arrives, be united until I reach Kufah in a few days.”
Meanwhile, the spies of Yazid were following him. For some time, the Imam stayed at the water of ′Abdullah Ibn Muti′ who tried to convince the Imam not to go to Iraq, but the Imam refused.
When Qays Ibn Mashar al-Saydawi reached al-Qadisiyyah, Ibn Ziyad’s army captured him. When they tried to search him, he tore the letter apart. He was brought to the governor’s castle in Kufah, and Ibn Ziyad asked him, “Why did you tear the letter?”
Qays replied, “So you will not know what was in it.”
Ibn Ziyad said, “You have to tell me what was in it!”
Qays refused. Then Ibn Ziyad said, “You have to go on the pulpit and curse Husayn, his brother, and his father. Otherwise, I am going to cut you into pieces!”
Qays went on the pulpit and blessed Amir al‑Mu′minin Imam ′Ali and Hasan and Husayn, and cursed Ibn Ziyad and his father and the Ummayads. Then he said, “O people! I am the messenger of Husayn to you!” He told them where he left the Imam and said, “Go help him!”
Ibn Ziyad ordered for him to be thrown from the top of the castle. He fell and died.
🥀 Khuzamiyyah
The Imam set camp and stayed in Khuzamiyyah one day and one night. In the morning, his sister Zaynab came to him and told him that she heard someone reciting this poem:
“O, the eyes try to be firm!
Who would cry after me, on these martyrs?
Cry on those people who are led
By death to the final destination.”
The Imam said to his sister, “Whatever God wishes will happen.”
🥀 Zarud
Here, the Imam set camp. Zuhayr Ibn al‑Qayn al‑Bajali was in the area and set camp near him. Zuhayr did not like the Imam and did not want to set camp near him, but, because there was water at Zarud, he had no other choice. At mealtime, a messenger of the Imam came to him and said that the Imam wanted to meet him. Zuhayr hesitated to reply but his wife, Dilham, told him to go to the Imam and see what he wants. Zuhayr went to him and immediately came back to his people with a happy face. He ordered to take his camp closer to the Imam’s camp and told his wife, “Go join your family, I do not want any of you to be harmed in any way because of me.”
Then, he faced his people again and said, “Whoever wants to help the grandson of the Messenger of God should come with me. Otherwise, Goodbye!”
He revealed a conversation he had with Salman al‑Farsi long ago. He said, “We went with Salman in Balanjar. Salman told me ‘When you reach Imam Husayn and are able to help him and fight on his side, you should be more than happy to.”‘
His wife said, “Whatever you decide, I go with your decision. Please remember me on the Day of Judgment with Imam Husayn’s grandfather.”
Also at this stop, the news of the murder of Muslim and Hāni Ibn Urwah reached the Imam. The Imam was deeply upset and many times said, “God bless them.” He and other people cried with the sad news, the ladies wailed, and the whole camp was in mourning.
Then, two of his companions stood and said, “O grandson of the Prophet of God! Please change your decision and do not go to Kufah.”
Others disagreed and said, “We have to continue and die the same way as Muslim and Hāni died for the cause.”
The Imam listened to each conversation and looked deeply into their faces and then said, “There is no goodness in life after these two.” (Muslim and Hāni)
🥀 Tha’labiyyah
Here, someone came and asked Imam Husayn, “What is the Verse of Quran ‘The day when we shall call all people by their leader.’1 about?”
The Imam replied, “A leader who calls to guidance and people obey his call and a leader who calls to misguidance and others follow him. One leads to heaven and the other leads to hell.”
Also at this stop a man from Kufah met with the Imam and the Imam told him, “If I had met you in Medinah, I would have shown you the place of Gabriel in our house. (The window, in the house of the Prophet Muhammad, which was used as an entrance by the angel Gabriel, whenever he came to visit the Prophet) Do you think we do not know what we are doing?”
Another came and said, “O son of the Messenger of God! I see you with only a few followers.”
The Imam pointed to a sack of letters and said, “This is filled with letters.”
🥀 Shuquq
Here, the Imam saw a man coming from Kufah and asked him about the people there. The man said, “All of them are against you.”
The Imam said, “Whatever God wishes will happen.”
🥀 Zubalah
There was still no reply from his third messenger to Kufah, Qays Ibn Mashar al-Saydawi, but here, at Zubalah, the news reached the Imam that ′Abdullah Ibn Yaqtar, his second messenger to Kufah, was killed.
When he was captured he was sent to Ibn Ziyad, and Ibn Ziyad ordered him to go to the pulpit and curse the liar son of liars. ′Abdullah showed his willingness to do so, but when he went up he said, “O, people! I am the messenger of Husayn son of Fatimah, to help him against son of Marjanah! (Ibn Ziyad)”
Ibn Ziyad ordered him to be toppled from the top of the castle. He fell and broke most of his bones, but he was still able to talk. A man named Lakhmi, one of Ibn Ziyad’s soldiers, came and cut off his head. When the people in the street asked him why he did that, he said, “To put him out of his misery.”
After this news, the Imam announced, “Anyone who has joined this caravan for any purpose other than dying for this cause should leave now.” And people left him except for those who chose to stay, his family, and his companions.
🥀 Batn al-Aqabah
Here the Imam announced, “I am going to be killed and I saw in a dream that dogs are going to eat my flesh and the worst of those dogs will be an albino dog.”
At this point, ‘Amr Ibn Luthan asked the Imam to return to Medinah. The Imam replied, “I know your opinion but I do not do but what God wishes. Indeed, they are not going to leave me alone until they take out my insides and if they do that, they will be the most humiliated nation in the world.”
🥀 Shiraf
Here, the Imam set camp and asked his children to re-supply with water and carry more water than they needed. When he heard one of his followers saying “Allahu Akbar,” the Imam asked him, “Why did you say that?”
He answered, “I see palm trees in the far distance.”
All the people around him said, “There are no palm trees around here in this desert?”
When they looked carefully, they saw spears and horses.
The Imam agreed and said, “That must be it.” Then he asked, “Is there any shelter here?”
They told him there is a place called Dhu-Hasm on the left and that is the best place to take shelter. The Imam went there and set his camp.
Then, at noon, Hurr al‑Riyahi, with 1,000 soldiers, appeared in front of the Imam, carrying a message from Ibn Ziyad ordering him to prevent the Imam from returning to Medinah or capture him and bring him to Kufah.
When the Imam saw that the army of Hurr was thirsty, he asked his followers to give them and their horses water. They gave all of them and all of their horses water except for the last animal. The inexperienced rider of this last camel came to the Imam, not knowing how to water his animal, and Imam Husayn told him, “Anikh al‑Rawiyah.”
In the Hijazi Arabic dialect, it means “loosen the ropes around the camel’s neck” (so it can drink), but in the Kufi Arabic dialect it means “loosen the neck of the water bag.” So, the soldier loosened the knot around the water bag and the water spilled out.
Then, Imam Husayn did it himself and showed the soldier how to loosen the ropes and let the camel drink. Then, after all of the army and their animals were finished drinking, the Imam stood and said, “I did not come here until all of your letters came to me, and the letters say that you do not have any leader and that you need me to help teach you guidance. If that is still your demand, give me something that shows that you are truthful in your promises, and if you do not like me, I will return to where I came from.”
The soldiers were silent. No one spoke a word. Then, Hajjaj Ibn Masraq made the call to prayer for the Dhuhr –Noon- Prayer. The Imam said to Hurr, “You are the chief of your army. You go and pray with your own people.”
Hurr replied, “No. We pray with your prayer.” and Hurr, with all of his troops, prayed with the Imam.
When the Imam finished the prayer, he stood and said, “O people! Fear God and find the truth and follow it. We are the members of the House of the Prophet. We deserve trust more than those who do injustice. If you do not like us or you ignore our rights or you have changed your minds from whatever you have written to us before, then I will leave you.”
Hurr said, “Written? I do not know what letters you are talking about!” The Imam asked one of his followers to bring two sacks of letters.
Hurr said, “I am not one of these people. I have been ordered not to leave you alone until I bring you back to Kufah to Ibn Ziyad.
The Imam said, “Death is before that.” He turned and told his followers to get ready to ride their horses, but Hurr stopped them from going.
Then, for the first time in his life, the Imam spoke an insult, “Your mother sits mourning you.” Then he said, “What do you want from us?”
Hurr replied, “If anyone beside you had said those words to me, l would have replied the same to him, but I cannot do that to you. However, take a road between you and Kufah, which does not reach Kufah nor goes to Medinah, until I write to Ibn Ziyad and see what his orders are. May God relieve me from this catastrophe.”
Then he said to the Imam, “I bear witness that if you fight, you will be killed.”
The Imam said, “Are you threatening me with death? Are you going to kill me? Are you helping the Messenger of God?”
When Hurr heard this, he turned around and left the Imam. He did not want a confrontation with the Imam.
The Imam’s caravan continued in an unknown direction, and Hurr’s army followed behind.
🥀 Baydhah
Here, the Imam gave a sermon to the people of Hurr:
“O people! The Messenger of God said, ‘Whoever sees an unjust governor who changes the forbidden to allowed and who breaks his promise, who is against the tradition of the Prophets, who acts unjustly and does not do anything against it in action or in words, God will enter him where the unjust person enters.’
Indeed, these people follow Satan and have left the obedience of God. They spread mischief, they abandon all rules, they misuse wealth, and they make the illegal legal and the legal illegal. I deserve this leadership more than anyone else. Your letters came to me and your deputies came to me offering allegiance to me, saying that you will not betray me and that if I lead you, you will succeed. I am Husayn, son of ′Ali and Fatimah, daughter of the Messenger of God. My soul is with your soul, my family is with your family, and I am one of you. If you do not do so and change your promise and your allegiance to me, that would not be a surprise to me. You have done so before to my father, my brother, and my cousin (Muslim Ibn ‘Aqil). If you do that, you have missed your chance and you have lost your share and whoever breaks his promise he breaks it against himself. Peace be upon you.”
🥀 Ruhaymah
Here, a man met the Imam and asked him, “Why did you leave the house of your grandfather? (meaning Medinah)”
The Imam replied, “Indeed, the Umayyads called our most honorable kin bad names, and I was patient. Then, they took my wealth, and I was patient. And they sought my blood and I ran away. Indeed, by God, they are going to kill me. Then, God will humiliate them, making them the most humiliated nation in the world.”
🥀 Adhib al-Hajanat
Here, four people from Kufah met the Imam. The Imam asked them about the situation of the people and they told him, “The dignitaries were bought by bribes. As for the common people, their hearts are with you, but their swords are against you.”
They told him how Qays Ibn Mashar al-Saydawi was killed. Then, the Imam recited,
“Among the believers are men who are true to whatever covenant they made with God. Some of then have fulfilled [their covenant], some of them are waiting [to do so], and have not made any changes [in the religion].”2
Tarammah Ibn ′Uday al‑Ta’y said to the Imam, “I saw people before leaving Kufah and asked what the commotion was. They said that they were being recruited and sent to fight against the Imam. I urge you, by God, not to go to them. I do not see anyone with you. I request you to come with us to our mountain called Aja. We were able to isolate ourselves from the kings of Ghassan and Himyar. If you stay with us for ten days, I guarantee you that 20,060 of my tribe, the Tays would follow you and do whatever you order.”
The Imam refused and said, “We have a promise between us and these people and we can not leave until we see the result.”
The Imam thanked him, but refused. Then Tarammah asked permission to go by himself to deliver what he has to deliver for his family, and then return to join the Imam’s camp. The Imam allowed him to do so, and he went, but he was too late in his return. On his way, he heard that Imam was killed.
🥀 Qasr Bani Maqatil
When the Imam set camp here, he saw another camp already set. He asked about them and they told him it is for ‘Ubaydullah al‑Ju’fi. When the Imam sent some of his followers to see him, Ju’fi asked them what they wanted, and the messenger said, “This is a message from Imam Husayn, asking you to help him.”
Ju’fi replied, “I swear by God, I left Kufah only because of what I saw, that people were leaving to fight against him and I knew that he is going to be killed and I am not going to help him. That is why I left Kufah so that I would be safe. I do not want to see him and I do not want him to see me.”
The messengers brought the reply back to Imam Husayn. The Imam got up, and with a group of his followers, went to Ju’fi’s camp. Ju’fi received him well, honored him, and said, “I have not seen anyone of better character or more handsome than Husayn.”
Then, Ju’fi asked the Imam if he used red henna or black dye to dye his beard.
The Imam replied, “O! Aging and gray hair came to me soon.”
When they sat, the Imam said, “Your people have written to me and asked my help and invited me to come to them. Now, it appears that it is not the case. You have sins in your life. Do you wish to erase them by repentance?”
Ju’fi said, “What is that, O son of the Messenger of God!”
The Imam replied, “You help the son of the daughter of the Prophet and fight by his side.”
Ju’fi said, “Indeed, I know that whoever follows you will be happy in the Hereafter, but what can I do to help? I saw no one in Kufah who would help you, and I do not like to die. Therefore, I give you my horses as gifts to you. This horse of mine, which is called Malhaqah, is the best horse to give victory to me, and I was not willing to give it to anybody in my life.”
The Imam replied, “If you are not willing to fight with us, we do not need your horses and we do not need you.” Then, the Imam quoted, “And I am not one who takes the support of people who are astray.”3
The Imam said to Ju’fi “I do not take those who are astray as helpers. Now I will advise you as you have advised me. If you are able to avoid our call and not watch us die, do so. Indeed, whoever hears us and does not help us will go to hell.”
Also at this stop, the heads of two other Arab tribes met the Imam. The Imam asked them, “Are you coming to help us?”
They said, “We have children and we have been trusted with the wealth of people and we want to keep their trust.”
The Imam said the same to them, “Leave. Do not hear our call for help. Indeed, whoever hears our call for help and does not help us will end up in hell.”
At the end of the night, the Imam ordered his followers to leave Qasr Bani Maqatil
🥀 Naynawa
When the Imam’s caravan came near this place, they saw a man on a horse coming towards them. He was carrying a message from Ibn Ziyad to Hurr.
Hurr came and read the letter to Imam Husayn, “Be firm with Husayn. When you read my letter, do not let him camp anywhere but in the desert where there is no water and no fortification.”
The Imam said, “Then, let us go to Nineveh or Ghadariyyah or Shufayyah.”
Hurr replied, “I cannot do that because the messenger is a spy on me.”
Zuhayr Ibn al‑Qayn said, “O, grandson of the Messenger of God! To kill these people now is easier than fighting with the reinforcements that will come after them. Let us start fighting and finish them. After these will come people that we will not be able to fight.”
The Imam said, “I am not going to start the fighting.”
Zuhayr said, “There is a village here on the Euphrates and has a fort and the Euphrates crosses it. Let us go there.”
The Imam asked, “What is it called?”
He said, “It’s called Aqr (in Arabic, means ‘the cutting’.”
The Imam said, “I seek refuge with God from Aqr.”
Then, the Imam asked Hurr to let him go a little bit further. Hurr agreed and the Imam’s caravan went with Hurr’s troops following behind until they reached Karbāla’.
