i feel like this is a topic that needs more than just a tumblr post to fully expand on but. i think that in modern-day christian culture we place WAY too much emphasis on Feeling and Emotion . and i think that this attitude is part of the reason why the most common struggle you hear is "God isn't speaking to me/I can't hear God". feels like the standard set is that you're constantly feeling a Supernatural presence and it's Big and Obvious and it Shows and you can't contain it... when that's just not it. God can be quiet. God can nudge. God's voice is contained in the Bible that you hold between your hands. If you're not "hearing Him" then maybe your expectation of what hearing Him is is flawed.

one of my favorite (/sarcastic but not really cuz its like funny idk) things in fandoms is when people make ocs or self inserts or 'x readers' being shipped with characters, but the oc/sona/reader is literally just another character from the source material.. its like youre shipping the characters but didnt want to admit it, so you made a kinsona and branded it as something else..

and its NEVER subtle, actually its super blatant every time and im always shocked when nobody points it out..

i have seen uncountable saiki k x readers where the description is like:

"saiki meets someone whose thoughts he cant read for the first time, and even though he doesnt trust her at first, she keeps proving that she is kind and has good intentions!" you mean nendo? reader is girl nendo?

"this time, he meets a girl whose thoughts honestly match up with her spoken words almost perfectly for the first time!" hairo. youre shipping saiki with girl hairo.

"saiki meets someone whose thoughts are too fast and jumbled to re-" ITS AKECHI, THATS AKECHI, ITS LITERALLY AKECHI.

"saiki meets someone whose just as immune to teruhashi as he is for the first and only tim-" this is hairo again, awe bae you secretly LOVE haisai ?!?

"saiki sees his old childhood friend for the first time in years after an incident caused them to be apart and then they fall in lov-" WHY DID YOU EVEN WRITE THIS AND NOT CALL IT SAIKECHI.

its even funnier when they say its like that characters little sister, but the way they write it is still literally just the character, like their personality, dialogue, even their relationship, is the same..

not all of them fit this exactly, but the ones that take a boy character and turn them into a girl oc to ship them with a boy, it reminds of how in equestria girls they couldnt make applejack and rarity endgame so they gave them boyfriends who looked IDENTICAL to each other.. thats what youre creating, guys, youre creating heterosexual rarijack.

Commentary on aroace/lesbian “fujoshi”

CW: talk of porn (the good and the bad), sex, and gender. Pretty graphic language and imagery. Sex repulsed aroace people BEWARE.

I would like to start this off by saying I am an aroace lesbian. What does that mean? Simply - I don’t want sex, nor romance, but if I did, I know where I’d find it. I love WOMEN. All women. Any women. I also really like yaoi, and I’ve seen some minimal discussion about specifically women who love yaoi or BL, and I’d like to add my two cents.

Several people online seem to take “lesbians liking yaoi” as just a natural reaction to the overall market of fiction. That is to say, there’s not a lot of options. There is a side to yuri which appeals to women, yes. But the way I see it, it’s either magical girl or slice of life, or, written by a man. And most of the stuff written by men is porn - bad porn. Thus it doesn’t appeal to women who actually like women.

In the same vein there is hetero stuff, which some lesbian/aroace yaoi enjoyers say doesn’t appeal to them because the majority of it has a male/female dynamic that is skewed. Oftentimes the woman is portrayed as weak or perhaps just isn’t a correct representation of the lesbian/aroace consumer. So why even bother?

Anecdotal, but I have had this experience too. I have a hard time getting into any kind of hetero ship because the women are often unrelatable or worse - just uninteresting. I don’t like men, so why would I care if it was just some faceless dame and her super hot husband? I don’t give a shit about him.

I’ve found that I enjoy a lot of hetero ships from demon slayer. Some may find this contradictory because there has been some commentary on the usefulness or intrigue around women in demon slayer. I think the demon slayer women are very interesting, story wise and appearance wise, and they fit very well with the men I ship them with. That is to say - men in demon slayer are simps for beautiful, strong, independent women - and I eat that shit up.

Most hetero stuff, however, is victimizing the women. Knowingly or unknowingly. It’s sad that if I want to get my rocks off to Mitsuri x Obanai, I have to scroll through like eight pages of the same inflation, big tits big ass no tummy, fart porn all sourced from the deepest dredges of Apocrypha. In fact, most of the time if you have the balls to like a fictional woman enough to want to see her getting respectfully banged, the cisgender heterosexual gooner men have already beaten you to the punch - and now you see her with her face in a smelly man’s ass. (All real examples by the way)

So it’s not to say I don’t like yuri, or hetero, it’s just that if I want to see women getting railed - I’m very particular. As I should be.

Yaoi, some people on the internet say, sets the men it’s focused around on equal footing. Instead of the woman being the damsel or a plain sexual object, the uke and seme are usually just two dudes. Not to say there aren’t power dynamics in yaoi - just to say that those power dynamics don’t hurt my pride as a woman. It doesn’t victimize a girl for somebody else’s sick kicks.

Yaoi, at least the kind I read, also can have an element of one man (the uke) usually being pretty soft or feminine. Why? Well that’s a pure reflection of how I (and other people) view sex. There is the giver and the receiver, the top and the bottom, the dom and the sub. Not that those lines don’t get crossed - they do, all the time. But as good ol’ Tevye says about Anatevka… TRADITION! (Sorry. It’s 3 AM)

The way I see it, it’s a way of having that traditional dynamic (pretty soft bottom and strong handsome top) without victimizing a woman. I do the same with yuri ships - I absolutely love love love a stone top with a pillow princess. And also - and I say this with no sense of shame - femboys are cute. Women are the superior form. Soz. So it’s awesome to see a man invoking his feminine side. It’s not like it makes him any less of a man. No matter how many times my mom peers at my drawings of Cloud Strife and says, “She’s pretty.” It doesn’t change the fact that he is him.

Gender is a fickle thing. It comes and it goes. I used to have a very conservative view of gender, and even sexuality. I was a “gold star lesbian”, and wanted nothing to do with men (still do, irl). You know what changed me? You’re gonna laugh. My Hero Academia. Oh, did I say you were gonna laugh? I meant cringe.

It’s not what you think. Bakudeku actually traumatized me - not the ship itself but one story I read on AO3 that I now understand for the masterpiece of terror and grossness it is. I would drop it but I don’t want to draw any undue attention to it.

What changed my mind on gender was actually Tomura. It didn’t even happen on purpose, l didn’t see him and go, “Oh he’s pretty, let’s dump a little more estrogen into him”. I shipped him with Dabi, paired them off as two dudes gettin it on, and I was loyal to my m/m ships. I ignored the ones tagged “Trans Tomura Shigaraki” because my brain refused to compute it. But then… I ran out of male fics. Well ran dry. I was getting anxious. I needed my shigadabi fix and how to get it?

Well. Can’t be that bad for Tomura to have a pussy.

And that’s how it happened.

Just like that, my worldview shifted. Proud to say I’m a lot more open to gender and sexuality, now. It’s sometimes hard to admit that I used to have such rigid views. It’s a bit embarrassing - but I was also 13. My Hero just gave me the push I needed to grow up.

I’ll wrap it up now.

If you’re a lesbian or if you’re aroace and you like reading yaoi - don’t feel bad. Don’t even question it. Fiction is fiction, we’re here for such a short time you might as well enjoy the things you consume, whatever that may be. It doesn’t make you any less of who you are. It might mean that you’re just a feminist. Or it might mean you have some issues with your gender you need to hash out. Or maybe it means you just like hot guys. Who cares?

Some people argue why lesbians and aroace people like yaoi so much. There are many different answers. I’m not really concerned with them, anymore, now that I’ve found my own. What does concern me is the amount of people who I assume are outside of fandom circles… never having heard of women (lesbian or not) enjoying yaoi or BL. Several reddit comments asked, “There are lesbians who like that stuff? I’ve never seen one.”

Lemme tell you, these people are missing something awesome in life. Yaoi written by women is like fucking crack.

Tell me about Donovan I hear he's a dead guy and I wanna know more!

OK SO i don't have much like, actual plot to his story since he's a "minor" OC of mine but i do think there's potential for a good story about him! >:3

Gerard de Vos was a dutch sailor that turned to piracy in the 18th century around the end of the Golden Age of Piracy, eventually getting captured and sentenced to be hanged for his crimes. the previous night to his execution, as he was locked in his cell, desperate as he was, instead of praying to whatever god a normal person might've believed in, he called upon a "demon" (TL;DR aliens from other dimensions that have wacky powers that don't follow Earth's rules) and asked it for immortality. of course, immortality doesn't exist (citation needed), so instead the "demon" traded his soul for an eternal flame. and the time for his execution arrived. Gerard de Vos died, hanged in public for the crime of piracy. that is what the records say. what they don't mention is that the next day, the body of the pirate was missing, the rope he was hung from burnt on its end. that day, Donovan Byrne was born

his body was dead, but his new soul kept it alive and running. this meant he was immune to most physical harm. he could get stabbed, shot, cut, it didn't matter. he simply did not die. and so he pirated, pilfered, robbed, assaulted, murdered and commited heinous crimes to the whims of his non-beating heart's content, for years and years to pass... ghost stories would be written about Donovan the Undying, the pirate that couldn't be killed, the pirate that would haunt the seas

but history moved on and piracy stopped being a thing, although that didn't stop him from continuing his crime spree. he adapted, changed with the times and became more accustomed to the new ages. he kept his unlawful activities for a very, very long time. but everything loses its shine as it ages, and boredom started to grow inside him. with no risk it also came no thrill, and with no thrill there was no fun to be had. he started slowing down. aimlessly wandering from place to place instead of eagerly looking for his next hit. he's done almost everything life has to offer him, after all. he didn't need to sleep anymore, but sometimes he'd find a place to stay and simply lay down, not sleeping, but moreso in a sort of comatose state, letting as much time pass as he could bear. he was bored, tired. immortality wasn't so fun anymore

he attempted to take his own life several times to no avail. he'd always end up waking up somewhere else in one piece, his body impervious to lethal damage. you can't die if you're already clinically dead, after all. and turns out that having something that's not a soul where your soul should be ends up giving problems. with time, this hellflame started to become unstable, and its contact with Donovan's body started to faulter, which in turn caused him a series of troubles. sometimes his soul wasn't able to reach his body properly, causing him to die during variable periods of time, from minutes to days or weeks. sometimes his soul would overflow its physical container with its energy, detonating a fiery magic explosion around him, destroying whatever was close with ice-cold flames. his body was starting to crack under all that energy flowing in him, and it wouldn't be long until something really bad happened if he didn't do something about it

soo that's more or less where he currently is. since he's in my modern monster world, that means he's still alive at least in the 90s, so he hasn't nuked a continent yet hhhhh. but! he is looking for a way to safely kill himself. he doesn't really know that waiting for the soul to burst out of his body would be a cataclismic event, but he's smart enough to know it'd be bad, not only to the millions of people that would die, but because he's not sure what'd happen to him afterwards, so he prefers looking for the safest way out. the only problem is that he's spent the last century or so doing basically nothing, so he's uh, very out of date regarding, well, EVERYTHING, but mostly technological advances. lots to catch up on

now for the more technical details about his undeadness! because i know you like those ehehe. i did do some very barebones research about decomposition for this. his "soul" provides energy for almost all his bodily functions: that means he doesn't need to eat, his blood doesn't flow, he doesn't need to breathe, the standard undead stuff. he does need to hydrate though (otherwise he'd end up like a raisin), so the only thing he ingests is water. eating food will end up with the food rotting inside his stomach because his digestive system stopped functioning ages ago. he also has certain-- i'm not gonna say regeneration bc it's not THAT extreme; it's more like sped-up natural healing process powered by his soul, where his wounds, no matter how severe they are, will eventually close. arm cut off? hold it in place for a few days and tada! reattached. they do leave scars tho. and i'm not sure what'd happen if you cut his head off, so let's not do that maybe hahah. the thing about having a dead body running around against its will is that it will try to die. sure, being fed with energy and constantly moving around keeps it from decaying, but only to a certain extent. as centuries pass and Donovan starts being less active thus lessening the amount of energy he uses from his soul, his body starts doing normal corpse things like starting to decompose. it doesn't get to rotting levels, but the "i'm supposed to be dead" signs start to show. his senses start decaying, his body temperature averages to room temperature, his skin gets really pale, his movements become sluggish and his brain starts malfunctioning too, which leads to memory losses among other things

i've only got two scenarios written about him. one is about how he meets this girl who works night shifts on a gas station on the outskirts of a city, saving her from a poorly attempted armed robbery in which it's revealed that he is in fact, undead. after the initial shock has worn down, the girl is actually pretty chill about it, and they end up becoming friends, her also helping him with learning about modern times. eventually, she'll also help him find someone who can euthanise him safely, even if that means dealing with iffy individuals and questionable and very possibly illegal supernatural research groups

the other scenario is about how he "dies" during a walk through a park and is discovered by a random civilian walking their dog a few days later. after calling emergency services and getting absolutely no identification from him (they found a very antique powder gun on him tho, strange), his body ends up in the nearby town's morgue, ready to get an autopsy and see if there's anything that could hint at this man's identity. the doctor (mortician?) who's assigned to examine him stays late to get it done as soon as possible, so he starts opening him up and taking a look inside. a very bad time for Donovan to regain consciousness. he almost gives the doctor a heart attack when he suddenly grabs him by the labcoat and very angrily asks him what the HELL does he think he's doing, spilling his guts like that. after the initial shock has worn down and a few words have been exchanged, Don convinces him that no, he's not gonna kill him, he just wants to leave and be left alone. the doctor hesitantly agrees to help him, and then shenanigans ensue

andddd that's all the Donovan lore i currently have! i hope this was an interesting enough read hjfdkhgjfdksgjfdk, i'm not very confident on my worldbuilding skills yet. if i said something that wouldn't make sense or you have questions about how certain things would work, ANY of you can feel free to mention it! maybe i can apply a bit more realism to the story, or maybe i'll just go "a wizard did it" and call it a day! who knows! but i'm always up to recieving feedback and/or ideas i could incorporate to my stories and magic systems :] i love making shit up it's so fun teehee ^·^

One of the longest fanfics on AO3 is an F1 fanfic! It's got more words than the Bible and it's still going. I read and write F1 fic and a lot of the characterisation is based on interviews, but there are also press conferences, team videos, the drivers own social media, podium celebrations, and of course whatever happens during a race. There's also loads of twinks on the grid, which goes a long way too
