Fascinating how Polites, the character who is the personification of Odysseus' optimism and is only in 5 songs, is more grieved and appreciated than Eurylochus, a character who is his own person and is in 11 songs.

#I'm being a hater but meh :/ it's just kind of baffling to me. Don't get me wrong. Polites plays his purpose for the musical #and it is neat how Jay took one line from him in the Odyssey and got silly with it and basically created his own character.#but like... All we know about Polites is that he's nice... that's literally it. He's Odysseus' optimism personified. which is why he died.#And it's not as though it isn't sad that he died. It's just that we got to know Eurylochus longer and truly get to know him more #is it because with how little people know about Polites other than “uwu sweetiepie” people like that so they can headcanon more?#is it because Eurylochus is “too complex” and therefore “not likable”??#idk. I'm gonna be burned at the stake for this I know it. but I don't understand it.#like during “Love in Paradise” it wasn't “Open Arms” that made me sad. #larry time #in my experience it also helps to make the characters feel more ''real'' when they have like. mundane little quirks #especially if you can explain those quirks #for example kiru is the type of person who likes to dance in pretty much any situation where music is playing #usually its just her walking a bit silly or waving her arms at her sides but shes also dancing down the aisles at the grocery store #and this is how she stims!! since other ''weird'' stimming behaviors were shamed out of her #but these days most people think the dancing is very charming if a bit silly #case in point the people around her enjoy her whimsy #and YOU dear reader can make your ocs whimsical and fun as well. you just need to look within yourself #open your heart as crush 40 once said

This episode has so much going on but it's a great season start #I adore how the juniors bicker in the opening scene....especially jin ling #I know there's more to him wanting to help out than just the jingle jangle of the clarity bell but also #from the outside it really does look like wwx jingled a little bell in front of him and made him go from 'not helping' to 'fine I'll help'#I also have failed to capitalize on the fact little jin ling has a bell on him. It has meaning and emotional weight. However.#JC really said: 'this little boy keeps getting underfoot and lost in crowds. I'll put a bell on him'.#Its stated that *all* the yunmeng jiang disciples had a clarity bell. Which is 1) funny to think they all wander off at times 2) owwww #Also extra 'Owww' the audio drama adds with this scene is the weight on how wwx never got to give baby JL the bell he carved as a gift #That little bell can hold so much significance to so many aspects of these character's lives.#'Clarity' as an adjective here is also pulling some fun weight. JL slowly coming to truly see myx/wwx as someone more than the rumours #have made him out to be. Teen discovers that you should make your own decisions about someone! Good for him!#JL is a great character and I like him more than my silly little comic design implies.
