i’m currently reading the reverb series by the amazing, talented, incredible @chrollohearttags and now i can’t stop thinking about musician!eren *cries*
cw include: no plot whatsoever literally just nasty sex, reader is kinda obsessed w him, drug usage (weed), riding, reader has megan knees, pussydrunk eren, unprotected sex (wrap it up yall), multiple orgasms, eren lowkey falls in love w reader shes that good man idk
the sound of skin slapping and your whiny moans could throughout eren’s tour bus—not even the rap music playing in the background from the stereo could tune you two out unfortunately.
“f-fuck m’nutting againnn!” you squealed out, your hand slapping against the blacked out window. eren took an extra long hit of the blunt perched between his fingers, his brows scrunching in pure bliss. his free hand was gripping onto the fat of your ass, whatever strength he had was being used to help move you up and down.
he couldn’t help but moan when you smushed your lips against his, inhaling the bitter smoke from his blunt. “your dick is even better than i imagined w-when i—hah! touched myself,” your words were slurred as you spoke, a tiny giggle following. all eren could do was nod and bite his lip. my mans was lost in the sauce, pussydrunk as fuck!
you drained his balls three times; once from head and the other two from riding him like a fucking madwoman. you didn’t even give him a break to catch his breath either, no no you were determined to leave this man a drooling mess! that way he’ll be more likely to give you call whenever he’s in your city again hehe
“you’re fuckin’ crazy,” his voice was low when he spoke, boarder line growling out the words. his head pathetically fell backwards with a lil thud, this gave you the perfect opportunity to start kissing and sucking at his neck. normally he’d tell you to back the hell up and not leave any evidence, but hey, with pussy that good you could do whatever you wanted with him.
you warm, gummy walls hugged his dick so nicely he was actually about to start tweaking out. “w-why *huff* why’re you fuckin’ me like that, goddamn girl,” eren grunted, swatting your ass three times. you slowed down your pace until you stopped completely, his balls now sitting snugly against your ass.
you cocked your head at him, a dopey smile making its way onto your lips. “well ain’t it obvious ren? i’m your biggest fan,” you pointed to your left breast where eren had signed his name in sharpie, it was a tad streaky now due to your current activities but it still looked hot as fuck. “and as your biggest fan i wanna see you every time you touch down in my city ‘kay?” you began to circle your hips and that had eren’s lashes fluttering.
eren damn near dropped the blunt when you reached behind you to squeeze at his swollen balls, which were already more than ready to fill you up with his cum again. oh yeah! did i mention he’s hitting it rawww? yeah you’re that good.
“yeah, yeah i’ll hit you up. on my life i will,” his sentence trailed off as you pushed your chest into his face, suffocating him in literally the best way possible. you plucked the blunt from his fingers and took a couple hits before setting it aside—you’d be damned if he forgot how to work his limbs and burn you!
“i really mean it when i say m’your biggest fan—mmph! i-i jus’ happen to fuck good too,” you adjusted your position before bouncing on his dick once more. you left out the part where you quite literally practiced this exact encounter on your favorite dildo.
eren’s nostrils flared as he looked at the mess between your bodies, it was beautiful. he never knew someone could make such a mess out of him yet here he was, drool nearly slipping past his kiss bitten lips as you brought him closer and closer to his fourth orgasm of the night.
“i just wanted to take care of you after your show, you work so hard renny ❤︎.” renny? you had nicknames for him already? fuck, he was so close to cumming what was even happening anymore?
eren felt like the air got punched out of his chest when you halted your movements, you looked at him with what he could’ve swore were hearts in your eyes. “did you hear me renny?”
eren’s adams apple bobbed when he swallowed, he licked his lips and nodded. “yeah i heard you, baby. so sweet for taking care of renny like that,” he couldn’t even believe what he was saying right now—this had to be his dick talking for him.
his head tilted back when you starting moving again, this time you had a little swivel in your hips that had his abs clenching. “god i’m finna—” eren bucked his hips up desperately to reach his high, it was just in his grasp. when he came it was earth shattering to say the least, and you just kept on going, milking him for everything he was worth.
thick, opaque globs of his cum dripped from your pussy and onto his thighs, creating an even bigger mess. “so good ren,” you muttered, licking up his neck until you reached his lips. “sure fuckin’ is,” eren hummed into the kiss, his tatted hand coming up to wrap around your throat.
sometime later . . . .
“what the actual fuck is taking him so long in there? he never takes this long with the other ‘fans’,” jean sighed, beyond irritated as him and the rest of eren’s security waited outside of the rocking tour bus. loud moans could be heard from inside, along with the occasional slap.
“fuck it i’m calling him,” jean growled, whipping out his phone to chew eren thee fuck out. surprisingly the call went through, unfortunately for jean eren wasn’t about to stop what he was doing in that moment to give him his full attention, hence why skin slapping could be heard on the line. “what do you want,” eren’s words were slurred as he spoke, almost as if he was actually fucking drunk!
he currently had you in backshots, both of your hands being held back by his larger one. his emerald eyes zoomed in on the way your pussy pulled him back each time he pulled out, what a pretty little sight.
“you need to hurry it the fuck up, we have a flight to catch in an hour! wrap it up er—”
“i don’t wanna hear none of that,” was all eren said before hanging up and tossing his phone to the side. no fucking way was eren about to stop now, not when his new, pretty lil fan girl was so close to cumming!

I was really attached to my grandfather before he passed. Like, lowkey, way more than I had ever loved or will love anyone. He was my everything. He was more of a father figure to me than my dad because my dad was always away for work.
So when I'd finally moved to another country, away from my grandfather, and it had been a year or so since he'd visited me there, I'd gotten sick of talking to him everyday. I was thirteen. You could say I didn't know any better when I really, and I mean really, fucking did.
So on new years' night, right before school reopened after winter break, when I was at home watching YouTube videos of five-minute-crafts, I heard my mom's voice break in the kitchen. It's a very vivid memory. It was like 11 at night, and it was honestly too late for me to be awake at all. My mom wanted me to sleep properly because I was an insomniac like my father.
But begrudgingly, with all the fear in my heart, I walked to the kitchen that overlooked the living room. My mother saw me, and she almost got scared. Then, she walked over to the couch where my dad was sitting, and plopped down next to him. Her nose was sniffing. Her eyes were red.
And then, when I called out to her. She wouldn't answer. She just wouldn't. So I went up to her, and she hid her phone screen. I pulled on her sleeve as hard as I could, asking her what was wrong. My voice kept getting louder and louder, until my dad handed me the phone.
I didn't dare to look at the screen. I couldn't. Not yet. Not until she said it was okay for me to do it. Then, my father said, "She needs to know. She's old enough."
So I looked. And my heart dropped. Because on the screen, was my grandfather's photo. Tubes attached to his body, eyes closed, the weakest I'd ever seen him be. He was in his early sixties. He wasn't even that old, and his organs were all failing for no apparent reason. I looked at my mother in horror, because she had known. And she hadn't told me.
For days, my grandfather was at the hospital ten thousand miles away in our home country, and my mother didn't bother to tell me.
I cried. I yelled. It was the loudest I'd ever cried. No child could've thrown a tantrum like that. I yelled, I screamed—snot was coming out of my nose and tears flowed like there was an unlimited supply.
I'd grown up too quickly until I was thirteen. Because when I saw my grandfather like that—a man I still love more than my own mother—I was five again. I was five, and I missed sitting on his shoulders while he bought me a lollipop from the corner store.
The next day, I went to school. And I didn't talk to anybody. That night, my grandfather passed. And not one single tear came out.
I questioned myself a lot that night. I couldn't sleep. Was I heartless for crying when he was alive, instead of now? Was I a stone cold bitch for avoiding talking to him on video calls?
And then, I still went to school the next day. Even though my mother said no. I went. Because there was no point of me sitting at home when he was ten thousand miles away—somewhere I couldn't reach him no matter how hard I tried.
I turned into a stoic clown for my family. I wouldn't let my mother cry, no matter how sad she was. I'd make shitty jokes, talk about stupid drama at school—again, I was twenty-five at thirteen.
For more than five years now, that's what I've been. I don't cry about him in front of my family. I even forgot his death anniversary this year, until the next day. On January third this year, I sat in my room, reading a book with the air-conditioner on when I realized, "Oh shit, my grandfather died yesterday six years ago."
And honestly, that's just what grief is. It doesn't go away with time. It stays. It gets rooted into you so much that you forget some of it. But it stays.
No one prepares you for how crippling grief is, last year my mom died of cancer. I watched her decline so rapidly that my brain couldn't understand who I was looking at by the time she passed. I couldn't understand who I was by the time she passed because I had to become a vessel who makes appointments, dresses, nurses, cooks and an entity who does not sleep. I did it all alone. The reality is that cancer eats away at everything, it lives on even after the patient dies. It ate away at every part of me, I couldn't get out of bed, I had sleep paralysis, I couldn't stop seeing her... like that. They asked me if she's my grandmother when they carried her out of the house. She was in her early 50s. Do you understand? In 3 months, she began to look like she was 80. Everyone wanted me to move on after a month, no one called anymore, not even a text. I thought I was alone when she was alive, but this was a new type of isolation. One that I barely survived. (thank you to my mutuals and tumblr for being an outlet)
It's been a year and 6 months, today I realized she's not the first thing I think of in the morning, or the last thing I think of before I fall asleep. I couldn't even call to do paperwork before, now I'm forgetting why it was even that difficult.
The sun's out, I think i'm going to get ice cream without feeling guilty that it's not something she can do anymore.
#sorry this was such a yap#but i hope all of you have a good day#ty for reading this it's honestly a lot.#i'm so sorry for your loss op and reblog#— pondering 💭

Hi! So I have the issue where I’m not able to turn my brain off I guess and I’m having to constantly be aware of everything happening around me and managing everyone because if I don’t do it no one will. It’s so tiring to never have a minute to not be a very aware of every little thing. That being said, could I request a Remus or poly!marauders where reader is able to not be in constant manage mode? I know that’s really weird and if it’s too much just ignore this. Thank you for everything you do on here ❤️
Not weird! Very relatable actually haha. Thank you for requesting angel <3
poly!marauders x fem!reader ♡ 823 words
“I like my system,” James says as you kneel in front of his suitcase, folding shirts. “My pants go on that side, then shirts in one corner and the rest in the other.”
“I don’t think it counts as a system if you’re just piling stuff in, Jamie.”
“How do you figure?”
“Well, doesn’t it bother you that they’re all wrinkled?” You frown, taking out a balled-up pair of trousers. It bothers you, and they’re not even your clothes.
“Not really, no. It’s a holiday, lovie, who am I trying to impress?”
“Um, me?” Sirius shoots a look across the bedroom. He’s busy stuffing things into his own suitcase on the other side of the bed.
“Oh, always,” James says gamely. “But you love me whether my shirts are wrinkled or not, don’t you?”
Sirius makes a wishy-washy noise that sees James tossing a pair of socks at his head. He dodges and they bounce to the floor.
“Did you remember your glasses cleaner?” you ask James, feeling about the pockets of his suitcase.
“All under control, angel. It’s in my backpack.”
“Perfect.” You finish neatly folding the last of his things and stand to kiss him. “Thanks.”
“Thank you. Though you didn’t have to fold my underwear, I could have managed that myself.”
“It was no problem.” You round the bed to where Sirius is packing, peering down at his suitcase.
He looks up with a raised brow. “Can I help you?”
“Are you packing your conditioner?”
Sirius’ other brow comes up to join the first. “Yes, I am. Do you have a problem with my hair smelling lovely?”
“No.” You smile, rolling your eyes when he pinches the back of your thigh playfully. “Just remember that it has to be under a hundred milliliters if you’re not checking your bag.”
“I’ve got it, doll. You worry about your milliliters, and I’ll worry about mine, m’kay?”
You hum. “And, um…”
“What?” Sirius’ tone is dry, but it’s all fondness in the tilt of his mouth as he looks up at you. “You gonna fold my underwear, too?”
“No, just, have you eaten? I don’t know if we’ll have time to eat at the airport.”
“I think Remus wants you, sweetness.”
“Hm?”
Sirius points with his chin, and you turn to find Remus watching you from the doorway to the bedroom. He looks a particular brand of appealing in his travel clothes. The trackies James got him for Christmas probably shouldn’t go so well with his overlarge jumper, but Remus being Remus, of course it works. He beckons you toward him.
“Oh, okay.” You glance back at Sirius one more time as you go. “Don’t forget to take your lighter out of your bag, security will take it away.”
“Love you too!”
“Hi,” you say to Remus, who wordlessly folds you into a hug as soon as you leave the bedroom. “Everything okay?”
He hums. “Everything’s great, yeah. Are you excited to go?”
You’re bemused but pleased by his hand running up and down your spine, his freshly shaven jaw pressed to your temple. “I am, yeah.”
“Mm. Relaxed?”
“I’m…yeah, sure.”
Remus chuckles softly. “You seem a bit strung up, lovely. Are you all packed?”
“Yeah.”
“Good. Me too. Anything else you need to do before we go? Have you eaten?”
“I ate, yeah.” You glance back towards the bedroom, the movement almost involuntary. “I think I just need to make sure—”
“You’re all ready then?”
It’s not like Remus to cut you off, but when you turn back around his expression is all fond patience.
“I think so,” you say. “At least, my stuff is all done.”
“Perfect.” He kisses your head, then takes your hand, leading you away from your boyfriends. “Let’s relax for a bit while they finish up, then, yeah?”
You let Remus guide you to the couch. At first sitting, then curling up against his side, your head resting over the steady beat of his heart. His hand runs up and down your arm, and slowly the tension seeps out of you.
“Sorry,” you say after a while. “Was I being annoying?”
“No,” Remus reassures you. “Of course not. You’re only helping. You just don’t have to, you know?”
You cringe at yourself. At the clarity of hindsight. “Nobody asked for my help.”
“We’re adults,” he agrees. “We don’t need to be managed—or we shouldn’t. If Sirius packs too much conditioner, he can sort it out himself.”
“Right. Sorry.”
Remus tuts, kissing the top of your head. “Please don’t be sorry. We all just want you to be able to relax. Give yourself a break, yeah?”
“Yeah, okay.” You snuggle closer to him, letting the last of the tension sap from your body. “That doesn’t sound so awful.”
“I’m glad.” The smile is audible in Remus’ voice. He rubs your arm again, encouraging you to relax further.
“But what if James doesn’t know—”
“Dove. He’ll figure it out.”

[Still don’t know what to get your loved-one for Valentine’s day? We’ve got you covered!]
You stared at your phone, almost praying it would blow up and disappear along with the message. Unfortunately, you still needed your phone and the universe knew it. You sighed and deleted the message.
Maybe you wouldn’t be so bitter every February if the world was a little kinder to single people. After all, at least half the people in the world must be single – whether by choice or not. And yet it seemed that everything in the world was keen on reminding you of how entirely single you specifically were, your sister included.
She all but wrestled the phone out of your hand. “That’s it. I’m signing you up for dating apps.”
“Please don’t,” you replied with only half your usual annoyance and enthusiasm. Maybe a part of you thought this was exactly the push you needed.
Already nose-deep in the app store, she didn’t even bother to pretend to hear you.
“This one has good reviews–” she mumbled to herself as if it was her phone all along.
You only hugged a cushion to your chest and stared at the TV. Whatever romantic film your sister had chosen to watch today was not helping your problem.
“What’s the point? Maybe Soonyoung’s right.”
“Who?” She finally glanced up.
“Soonyoung.”
She blinked. “Is this Soonyoung cute?”
“Can you please stop trying to set me up with every guy you hear about?” You rolled your eyes. “He said that the key to finding love is to first love yourself.”
“That’s, like, basic philosophy,” she replied easily and turned back to your phone. “I need your email and a password– Oh, wait, I can just make something up.”
You were fairly certain she wasn’t listening to a word you were saying but you were past the point of caring. At least talking to a person who isn’t listening is a (small) step above talking to the lonely snake plant on your windowsill.
“Maybe I should take some time to just find myself,” you contemplated out loud. “I could try a new hobby. Or a new style. Find new books to read. Maybe then I won’t even care that I’m single.”
Still not looking up from the app she had newly installed on your phone, your sister hummed. “One of my friends did say that fictional boyfriends are better than real ones.”
So maybe she was better at multitasking than you had thought.
You put the cushion away and leaned closer to her. “What are you doing on my phone anyway?”
Proudly, she turned the device for you to see. “Ta-da! Your first ever dating app profile!”
A shiver of fear ran up your spine. “You signed me up for a dating app?”
“And you’re not allowed to delete it until you find a boyfriend,” she declared. “And if you do, I’ll just download it again.”
“You’re a menace.”
“Whatever,” she laughed and handed you back the phone, picking up her own from the coffee table. “Oh, I should get going.”
You couldn’t help but pout. “Already? Why?”
She rolled her eyes and went to pull on her coat. “Because, unlike you, I have a boyfriend who wants to take me out on a date. In fact,” she was practically beaming and you felt the ugly green tentacles of jealousy crawling up your leg already, “he’s taking me on a date every day until Valentine’s day.”
A pause. With a startle, you soon realised she was expecting you to cheer for her. You tried to find words that weren’t as bitter as you were feeling. “Oh, that’s so sweet of him.”
It was the right answer. She actually squealed as she confirmed, “Right? He’s such a romantic.” Her voice dropped to a conspiratory whisper as she leaned closer to you over the back of the sofa. “I think he’s going to propose on the big day.”
You almost sighed in despair. “I hope so! You deserve that ring.”
“You are so right,” she agreed and opened her mouth to say something more when the door suddenly opened.
You tilted your head to see who had intruded. It was Jihoon, black hat covered in white snow and a takeaway bag in his hand. He blinked at the sight of your sister before smiling and waving. “Hi. I didn’t know you had visitors.”
“I do have friends other than you, Hoon,” you informed him. “Also, I do have a working doorbell.”
He gave you a funny look. “And I have your spare key.”
It was clear you had made a mistake when you awarded him the honour. Now you were stuck dealing with him even when you didn't want to.
“I’ll leave you two,” your sister announced and left, not before whispering something in Jihoon’s ear in the passing.
Jihoon’s ears turned red as he cleared his throat and set the takeaway bag on the table.
“What did she tell you?” you asked him with a groan. You knew your sister better than anyone – there was no way she hadn’t told him something so embarrassing you wouldn’t be able to look him in the eyes for weeks to come. “Lay it on me.”
“Nothing. It was nothing.” His reply was just a little bit too quick and wavering, but you decided to let it go this once. “I brought you some leftovers.”
You raised a brow. “Leftovers?”
“They ordered too much food to the studio today, so I brought you the extras,” he told you almost timidly, gesturing to the bag like it was no big deal and had required zero thought from him. He was a strange man but maybe that’s why you liked to keep him around. “Can’t let the good food go to waste. Besides,” his eyes seemed sharp all of a sudden, “have you eaten at all today?”
He didn’t need an actual answer – you both knew the truth.
“I’ll be sure to savour it,” you told him with a joking salute. “Want to join me for a movie?”
His nose scrunched up at the mention. “I wish. I promised to help Seungkwan set up for the party tonight.”
Right. The party. Seungkwan’s “Jeonghan’s party”. In three hours. You had forced yourself to forget about it.
Jihoon pursed his lips in thought, brown eyes sparkling with mischief. “But we could always pretend we got kidnapped by a serial killer.”
“Sounds like too much work.”
“We escape to Iceland, become anonymous sheep herders and no one ever hears from us again,” he then suggested, snapping his fingers for emphasis and raising his brows as he waited for your reaction.
But as tempting as that sounded… “Seungkwan would find and skin us in fourteen days flat.”
He groaned and threw his head back. “Then I guess we have no choice. We must commit a crime so vile they give us a life sentence.”
“He’d just bring the party to the jailhouse,” you laughed. “And we wouldn’t even be able to sneak out.”
He took a deep breath and straightened back up. “Well, I’m out of ideas. Just plain suffering it is then.”
You glanced at the clock. “It’s not too late to fake our deaths.”
Jihoon snorted a laugh. “You just said that pretending to get kidnapped would be too much work.”
“Faking deaths is different! Or! We could summon a freak storm that would leave us stranded here,” you suggested.
“How?”
“I’m sure there’s a good Youtube tutorial somewhere.”
He giggled at the idea. “You really don’t want to go to the party, huh?”
You could only sigh and wish for the plush green fabric of the sofa to swallow you whole. “There’s definitely going to be so many couples there, all dressed in matching outfits and giggling and making out. And I’ll be all lonely and miserable, quietly downing all of Seungkwan’s wine.”
When you looked at Jihoon, he was smiling at you almost fondly. He was silent for a while. Then he spoke again, “I’ll keep you company. Don’t worry.”
“It’s not the same,” you whined like a little brat even as his promise made you feel a tiny bit gooey and soft inside.
“I’m sorry?” He just laughed again and shook his head, the remnants of snow falling onto the floor. “I’m bringing those muffins you like so much.”
You felt yourself perk up immediately. “Muffins? Why didn’t you just say so?”
He laughed harder but said nothing else as he turned and left. You would’ve been upset if you didn’t know him better.
Your phone chimed with a new notification.
[Claim your Valentine’s day coupon now and surprise your partner with a free tour of the museum!]
You groaned but didn’t delete the message.
[HOON: if you want to match with someone, I’m wearing red today]
You groaned harder and shut off your phone.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/72ba1210a096738fec4e980baa4c101b/6e40d8c4c734509e-db/s540x810/89c25df12f12c3f3060e3287f8d07bf232155f4e.jpg)
It wasn’t that you actually disliked these parties. You quite liked them, really. Seungkwan had figured out the perfect balance of socialising, snacks and music. It was a joy to be present, hanging out with your friends as you forgot about the problems of the week.
The only problem was that ever since Seungcheol and Chan had introduced the idea of an annual friendly “Party King” competition, the number of parties you were gently blackmailed to attend had doubled. And, frankly, your social battery was due for an upgrade that never came.
You suspected the same went for Jihoon.
Clad in his dark red hoodie, he joined you on the sofa the moment his eyes caught yours. Sipping his soda and softly singing along to the music, he completely ignored your personal space and made himself comfortable by your side.
“No wonder you can’t get a boyfriend,” Seungkwan joked when he walked past the two of you, a box of party games in his arms. His smile was blinding as he told you, “Your guard dog’s going to scare all of the guys away.”
You blinked in confusion. He nodded to your side. Following the gesture, you found yourself face to face with Jihoon. A groan left your mouth.
“What?” Jihoon wondered.
“Seungkwan says you’re the reason I’m single.”
He didn’t seem the least bit perturbed by the fact. “Well, if they want to date you, they have to impress me first.”
You almost felt a little fond of him, appreciating his protectiveness. But you also knew your Jihoon and you knew he wasn’t finished yet.
Under your warning eyes, he took a sip of his soda before smirking. “God knows you wouldn’t recognise a red flag if it slapped you in the face.”
Glancing down at his clothes, you snorted a laugh. “You’re literally dressed as a red flag yourself. I should be avoiding you of all people.”
“No, I’m just warning other people that you are a red flag,” he replied effortlessly, cutting your laugh short. Sensing he was now in real, actual danger, his eyes widened. “That was a joke. Just a joke. I’m sorry–”
You smacked him upside the head and shook your head. “Did someone mix alcohol into the soda? You’re so mean today.”
He blinked once. Twice. Looked into his soda cup. And then cursed. “I knew it tasted funky! Yoon Jeonghan!”
You could only laugh harder as he jumped up from the sofa and ran into the kitchen with fury that could not be matched. Drunk words are sober thoughts they say. Which is precisely why you hardly drank anything at these gatherings.
Jihoon returned less than two minutes later, two unopened colas in hand. There was still an attitude to his foot stomps and a glint of annoyance in his eyes, but he opened one of the cans before handing it to you like he always did.
“Not even Jeonghan can tamper with closed cans,” he reasoned almost bitterly. “Who mixes vodka into soda?”
“Lots of people,” you told him with a chuckle and a gentle pat to his shoulder. “It’s called mixing a cocktail.”
He rolled his eyes. “Rude of them to not consider people who don’t drink alcohol.”
“Kind of like it’s rude of them to not consider the single people here,” you half-joked in camaraderie. “Have you noticed they’ve only been playing love songs tonight?”
Jihoon’s brows furrowed. “Have they?”
You nodded towards the speakers that were blasting Love Me Right. “The last two songs were Lover and Steal the Show.”
He grimaced. “There’s still 12 days left until Valentine’s day. Are they insane?”
“Probably.” You rested your legs onto his lap. “I guess I’ll just be extra bitter and lonely this year then.”
“No shot at romance?”
You raised an eyebrow, a smile playing on your lips. “You literally just said you’re wearing red to warn others how much of a red flag I am. And now you want me to find romance?”
“I have mixed feelings about you dating,” he told you honestly – a little too honestly, if the red tint of his ears was anything to go by. He cleared his throat. “I should start checking the drinks for alcohol before I drink them.”
Pretending not to notice, you took a sip of your cola. “I keep thinking about what Soonyoung said yesterday. About loving myself before I can find someone.”
“Isn’t that just social media nonsense?” Jihoon wondered quietly, resting his free hand on your knee. His thumb rubbed little circles onto your skin, comforting you.
“What if he’s right?” you continued. “What if I love myself so little that I simply cannot be loved?”
Frowning, Jihoon let out a sharp noise of protest. The gentle touch of his thumb turned into a warning pinch between his fingers. “You are loved! Who put this dumb thought into your mind?”
“... Soonyoung?”
“I’ll beat him up on Monday,” he half-heartedly promised, a heavy look still on his face. Softening his voice, looking straight into your eyes, he spoke, “Don’t you dare think you cannot be loved. You are loved.”
“By whom?”
He looked away and didn’t say.
“Whatever,” you sighed once the silence became too much. The speakers began playing Die With a Smile. You sighed once more. “Can’t they play something less romantic? I’d kill for a dumb, mindless party song right now. Do you think you could ask Jeonghan to play something else? He scares me–”
But it seemed that Jihoon was still stuck on the last topic. “What are you doing for Valentine’s day this year?”
“... Aside from crying myself to sleep after watching To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before for the 15th time?”
“You don’t think you love yourself enough to be loved by someone else,” he echoed your earlier words, his eyes stuck on something in the distance, “so why not change that? Treat yourself to something good this year. No sad movies and ice cream,” he finally looked at you again, “just do something you’ve always wanted to do.”
You knew he was right – he always was right. “But it’s boring to do that alone.”
“Then I’ll come with,” he decided after a moment of thought. A small smile appeared on his face. His thumb finally resumed its circles on your knee. It was sweet. Until he opened his mouth again, repeating the words playing on the stereo: “Wherever you go, that’s where I’ll follow.”
To the sound of his giggles, you snorted and slapped his hand away. “You’re awful.”
“I’m serious–”
“Aren’t you two just the cutest!” Jeonghan interrupted your banter with a childish pout on his rosy lips as he leaned against the wall across from the table. Soonyoung was smiling brightly at his side. “Are you dating yet?”
You wondered if he was done asking that at every party yet. It’s not like it was ever going to change (no matter how much he, Soonyoung, and your mother hoped it would).
Jihoon sat up, narrowed eyes settling on Jeonghan as if he was the devil himself. “Did you mix vodka into the soda?”
“Maybe,” came the reply with a shrug and a wicked giggle.
“I could get you a boyfriend for Valentine’s day,” Soonyoung suddenly said, his brown eyes set on you. There was that glint of mischief again. You realised you feared this man more than you feared bears, and not for the usual reasons.
Even so, you laughed. “Soonyoung, if you were any good at being a wingman, Jihoon wouldn’t be single right now. In fact, you’re, like, the number one reason why he’s single.”
Forgetting his own argument with Jeonghan, Jihoon seemed to take offense to your statement. He let out a noise of hurt before pinching your knee once again.
“Au contraire, my friend,” Soonyoung argued and leaned so close that you could smell the raspberry-flavoured liquor in his breath, “I’m going to be the reason he finally gets the girl.”
You raised a brow. “Remember, just last week you told a girl Jihoon’s not into women when she asked if he was single.”
“I was drunk,” he told you, wearing a mask of nonchalance. “I don’t remember much from that night.”
“Or the time I got a girl’s number but you stole it and dropped it in the pool,” Jihoon pointed out with a smile that seemed almost venomous. You had no doubt he’d hold that mishap over Soonyoung’s head for the rest of their lives – you almost hoped he would.
Soonyoung had the decency to look a little deflated at the mention, at least. But even so there was no stopping him. Mumbling under his breath, he repeated himself, “I’m going to be the reason he finally gets the girl.”
You shared a look with Jihoon and mutually decided to forget this exchange.

When you were sixteen, Jihoon’s dad let you in on a little secret. He had peeked out of the kitchen to make sure his son wouldn’t hear and then he’d told you that Jihoon had set his phone up so that he would never miss your calls. He thought it was the most adorable thing, and so did you.
You hadn’t even realised your phone’s Do Not Disturb setting had an option to do so but suddenly you were giddy, excited to set your phone up in a similar manner. And when you didn’t quite manage to figure it out, you decided to compromise and just make his ringtone the loudest one you could find. It worked just the same for you.
You’ve had many phones since then, but the ringtone never changed.
Though you were no longer sure if it was the obnoxiousness of the ringtone itself or the muscle memory of answering so many calls from him late at night, it never failed to wake you up when he needed you.
Once again you woke up to the noise, hand automatically reaching for your phone even though your eyes were still closed and your mind was still halfway lost in dreamland.
“Jihoon?” you mumbled his name as if his ringtone hadn’t been burnt into your memory.
The other line was silent for a moment. Then you heard a soft sigh. “Sorry. Did I wake you up again?”
“No,” you lied, dragging the vowel out as much as you could to loosen up your vocal cords. “What’s up?”
“Couldn’t sleep.”
“Nightmare, stress or boredom?”
“... All three?”
“You have to pick one.”
“Why?”
“Because I said so.”
He groaned but it was soon followed by a soft laugh. “Do you remember when we were kids and I threw that ball into Mr Yang’s window?”
Weird change of topic, you thought, but Jihoon did love to reminisce. So you humored him. “You mean the time he yelled at you so hard that you cried?”
“Yeah,” he chuckled. “And then you told me he deserved to have his window broken. And you built a pillow fort in your closet for me to hide so my parents couldn’t find and scold me.”
“It had world-class security,” you joked. “Buddy and I were a trusty team.”
But it was like he hadn’t heard your interjection, too lost in his own memory book.
“You hid in there with me and hugged me when my mom came to get me,” his voice trailed off. He cleared his throat. “You know, she wasn’t even that mad at me. I only had to do the dishes for a week.”
“You were just a kid and she knew that,” you spoke so softly that you wondered if he even heard you this time. The shared memory of the day ran in front of your eyes. It was a simpler time but even back then you had been ready to do anything for him.
Silence engulfed the two of you, only the gentle static of the phones reminding you of the other still being there. Ten whole minutes went by like this and for a moment you wondered if he’d fallen asleep.
“I should go to sleep,” you spoke low in case he really was asleep. “I have to wake up early tomorrow.”
He hummed. “Why?”
“I’m going to a museum and I want to leave by 10. So I should get up before 9. And it’s already almost 3 am, so you know…”
“Since when is 9 am early?” he half-joked before suggesting, “Just go later.”
“I’m a woman of principles, Lee Jihoon. When I have plans, I see them through.”
He scoffed out a laugh. “Liar. Remember that novel you said you were going to write?”
“No clue what you’re talking about,” you feigned innocence, “and you have no proof.”
His laugh sounded like he was sitting right next to you. You silently thanked the wonders of modern technology.
As you prepared to say good night, you heard his voice again. “You remember the thing Soonyoung said yesterday? About finding you a boyfriend?”
You scoffed. “You don’t think he was serious about that, right? He was just joking, being Soonyoung.”
“Right. Right…” He sounded distant again, like he was in a daze, as he spoke, “Do you think– Have you ever wondered if—” He groaned and you could practically see him scrunching his eyes shut in frustration. “Nevermind, it’s dumb. Sleep must be sneaking up on me.”
You hadn’t realised you’d been holding your breath. It came out in a not entirely genuine laugh. “Maybe we should both go to sleep.”
“Yeah,” he agreed with a sigh. “You’re right, like always.”
“Always?” you teased.
“... Well, maybe not always.”
“You can’t take it back now,” you whined through laughter. “You almost never compliment me or my choices.”
He took a breath like he was about to say something. But nothing came out. Only a sigh. Then the phone call ended without another word – the way Jihoon liked it.
You rolled over to your side, reaching to put your phone away again when it buzzed. The screen lit up with a message.
[Hoon: if I complimented you and all of your good choices, it would take forever.]
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/72ba1210a096738fec4e980baa4c101b/6e40d8c4c734509e-db/s540x810/89c25df12f12c3f3060e3287f8d07bf232155f4e.jpg)
Crawling out of the comfort of your bed on one of your few days off, you wondered if the art of loving yourself was really worth the effort.
As usual, half an hour was spent on reading the news and watching videos you weren’t entirely interested in. Another half an hour went by as you stared at the ceiling and contemplated your life decisions until you finally found the willpower to shower, get dressed, and eat a quick breakfast.
By 10, you were starting to feel like a human-being again, so you grabbed your keys and bag, and you walked out of your apartment.
“You said you wanted to leave by 10,” Jihoon’s voice nearly shocked you into running back to your room. He was the dictionary definition of nonchalance as he stood in front of your door, barely even lifting his head, trying to read something off his phone. “It’s already 10:04, slowpoke. Are you ready to go yet?”
You stared at him for a while. Why was he here? Had you invited him along? No, you were sure you hadn’t. And then your jaw dropped as his words sunk in. “You’re the reason I stayed up until 3!”
“And to make up for it, I already sacrificed my arm by cleaning the snow off your car. You’re welcome. Let’s go.”
He never once looked up from his phone as he headed back down the stairs. You could only laugh in disbelief and lock your door before following after him.
“Why are you here anyways?” you finally asked when the two of you reached your car which had, indeed, been brushed clean of snow. “I was going to go alone.”
Jihoon shrugged. “I was bored.”
“You were bored and just invited yourself along?” You wished you had that kind of audacity.
The car seemed to be colder than the weather itself. You involuntarily shivered as you pulled the door closed behind yourself. Jihoon let out a noise of complaint as he settled into his usual spot in the leather passenger seat. Envy filled you as he adjusted himself and burrowed further into his warm fleece jacket.
In an act of something akin to revenge, you tossed him your phone. “Read the directions. If I miss a turn because of you, I’m making you pay for my coffee.”
“Yes, captain,” he joked and turned the heat up to the maximum. One could only pray that your car’s battery would survive the trip. “Are we making any stops on the way?”
“I wasn’t going to.” You really weren’t. It was just a 70-minute drive to the museum – adding to the duration really wasn’t on your bucket list – but knowing Jihoon, not stopping for snacks was simply not an option. The deepening pout and his wide eyes were enough indication that you were right to assume so – he only ever used his cuter side to win. A deep sigh bubbled in your throat. Through gritted teeth you spoke, “But I suppose we could squeeze in a quick stop.”
He let out the tiniest cheer and happily gave the first instruction: “We need to go right, turn left at the intersection and then–” A noise of curiosity. “A Hyunjin wants to know if you have any pets? I guess?”
You frowned. There wasn’t a single Hyunjin you could think of. “Hyunjin?”
“That’s what it says,” he told you with a shrug. “He also wants to know how you feel about… ferrets.”
You weren’t entirely sure what that was about. “Just ignore it. Where to next?”
“Uh,” he vocalised, “right again.”
“Why did we even turn left then?”
He chuckled. “I’m just telling you what the app says.”
“Whatever. Next?”
“Just keep going straight. We should reach the highway in, like, fifteen minutes.”
Fifteen minutes straight through the busiest part of the city? You regretted your museum plans already. Should’ve just stayed at home and watched Youtube the whole day. There was a sneaking suspicion that even if you had watched traffic camera livestreams, you would’ve seen fewer red lights.
While you painstakingly stared at the lights, praying for them to turn green already, you noticed Jihoon happily scrolling through your phone. Your hand rose and somewhat forcefully landed on his thigh in a warning gesture. “Stay out of my private messages, creep.”
“Why would I want to read your private messages?” he half-joked and made a face that made you roll your eyes. “By the way, your mom said to bring tiramisu cake to dinner on Friday.”
Defeated, you sighed. “Tell her I’ve got it covered. What’s the occasion?”
“She wouldn’t tell.”
“You’re chatting with her right now?”
He smiled at you like it was obvious. “She’s my mother too.”
“Stop. That’s gross.”
“Also, who’s Andrew?” he then asked, smile dropping.
Another name you weren’t sure could be associated with yours. “Who?”
“An Andrew Johnson,” he slowly read the screen. “He wants to know what your favourite colour is.” His head whipped up just as you pressed the accelerator. “What’s with all these weird chats? You don’t seem to know these people?”
Desperately, you tried to recall a Hyunjin or an Andrew. You had no recollection of either. And somehow the list only seemed to grow with Jihoon calling out a new name and question at what felt like every minute: “Jongho just sent the cringiest pick-up line I’ve ever read”, “Joshua wants you to know that you have a typo in your profile”, “Minjae asked if you prefer walks on beaches or forest hikes”.
Each notification made you more confused than the one before and soon you felt your brain would melt.
You finally had enough of the confusion when he said, “Turn right. I want a burrito. Also, Chanyeol says you look hot in your profile picture.”
“What profile picture?” you nearly cried out as you slammed the brakes in front of the gas station. “What is going on?”
Jihoon looked just as disheartened and puzzled as you felt, if not even more so. He unbuckled his seatbelt like it had been trapping him and threw your phone back to you for inspection like it was burning hot. He was already halfway through the door when you caught your bearings again. “You want anything?”
“Just a coffee,” you told him, barely paying half a mind to the conversation as you scrolled through your notifications.
You barely noticed he left when you tapped on one of the notifications showcasing an unfamiliar name, a message and a photo of a handsome man. The screen opened on an app you had barely any recollection of ever downloading. A familiar ‘swipe left or right’ homescreen made you groan and shut your eyes as you locked the phone and tried your hardest to pretend this wasn’t real.
Minutes passed in blissful almost-ignorance. You felt at almost-peace. It was almost nice.
Until Jihoon arrived once again, two burritos, a water and a coffee in hand, and a scowl on his face.
“Did you figure out who those guys are yet?” he asked and for a moment you thought he sounded bitter.
You didn’t have any sighs left in you, so you just grabbed a burrito and the coffee. “Yep.”
He raised a brow while he silently took the burrito back and handed you the other one instead. “So?”
You frowned at his actions. “Did you just swap the–”
“You wouldn’t like this one,” he said and took a pointed bite out of the burrito. “So, the mystery men?”
There it was: the last sigh you could force out of yourself. It didn’t feel anywhere as freeing as you hoped it would. “My sister got a hold of my phone the other day and downloaded a dating app. I think she might’ve messaged a few guys she thought I’d like.”
“You don’t seem happy about it.” You barely understood his words with his mouth so full of food.
“I don’t really believe in dating apps working, you know,” you told him honestly and took a bite of your own burrito. Your eyes closed in bliss – you should’ve trusted Jihoon’s judgement from the start. “This is so good.”
“I know,” he replied with a knowing half-smile that disappeared as fast as it appeared. “If you don’t believe in the app, just delete it.”
“Can’t.”
“Why not?”
“Made a promise to not uninstall it.”
Your phone made the executive decision to light up with another notification just then. Jihoon tilted his head to read it and carefully voiced out the message: “Seungho says your eyes look as pretty as the starry night sky– Okay, that’s just cheesy.”
Brows furrowed and nose scrunched up in disgust, he grabbed the phone, unlocking it with ease (you had only half a memory of ever giving him the password), and scrolled through the apps until he found the culprit.
“I’m uninstalling it,” he told you when he felt your curious eyes on him.
Your eyes widened at their own accord. “You can’t. I promised my sister–”
“Lucky for you, she’s not my sister,” Jihoon says as he swiftly uninstalled the app and brought peace into your life once again. His frown turned into a proud smile as he handed the phone back to you. “You’re welcome.”
You stared at him, dumbfounded, flabbergasted, confused. “Did you really just–?”
“Anything for you.” He said it with the uttermost seriousness. “If she tries that again, tell her she’ll have to deal with me first.”
Shaking off the odd wave of appreciation you felt for this man – your best friend, you reminded yourself –, you settled back down in your seat. You stared out the window for a while, slowly devouring your burrito.
Head whipping around to stare at him in disbelief, you jolted upright again. “Wait, so my mom is your mom, but my sister is not your sister?!”
He was too busy enjoying his food (and accomplishments) to ever reply.

The banners of the café were mocking you.
Bright reds and pinks snickered as you walked past. Papers cut into perfect little hearts flew past your head, giggling as if they were better than you.
“Happy Valentine’s day!” they all said, side-eyeing you while you resisted the urge to commit your first arson.
“When was the last time you ate something other than candy?” is all that Jihoon said in reply when you told him such.
You spared a glare at him. “What’s that got to do with anything?”
“Nothing.” He shrugged. “You just tend to get a little…” he hummed in thought, glancing up at the sky as if he was expecting a dictionary to drop from a cargo plane any second now, “imaginative when you’ve had too much sugar.”
“I’m always imaginative.”
“It was not a compliment.”
You rolled your eyes in response and opened the door. “You can say what you want but I know for a fact that this whole holiday was invented to make fun of me.”
It didn’t take much to figure out that the pensive scrunch of his nose, the narrowing of his eyes and the tilt of his head meant that he was holding back a question that would probably end with one of you in the ER and the other in a police car. You decided the look alone was enough to warrant slamming the café door closed in front of his face and marched up to the register. His loud laughter taunted you as you did so; not even the thick walls of Soonyoung’s mother’s café could muffle the sound.
You didn’t bother to turn around to look at him as the bell chimed and Jihoon walked right up, taking his usual spot next to you, the remnants of laughter still on his tongue. “I will never get your deal with Valentine’s day, I swear.”
“There’s no deal. Only hatred. Even loathing, if you will.”
“I’ll make sure to ask Soonyoung to make your coffee as dark as your soul then,” he promised with a cheeky grin. The list of crimes you wished to commit on this day was growing by the second – he knew damn well to not come between you and your vanilla mocha latte.
“Anyways,” you sighed theatrically, “can’t Valentine’s day be over already?”
“I sure hope not,” Soonyoung’s bright voice sounded as he practically danced out of the backrooms, “our sales are always the best on Valentine’s day. So, what can I get you two?”
Why did everything have to be Valentine’s themed anyway? And so expensive? The new higher price of the chocolate muffins had you absolutely appalled.
Your bitter thoughts were interrupted by a nudge to your side. “What do you want?”
A new wave of confusion hit. “Since when do you ask that?”
“You’re acting like I order at random,” he said with a roll of his eyes. “They don’t have your usual waffles.”
You were even more appalled. Absolutely horrified, really. “They don’t have waffles?! What kind of a café doesn’t have waffles?!”
“We have waffles!” Soonyoung seemed offended by your best friend’s claim, a pout on his lips as he stood at the counter in his red apron (and was his name tag heart-shaped? (You couldve sworn it was just a rectangle last week)).
Who were you supposed to believe? Soonyoung who worked at the café and was too earnest to ever really lie to you? Or Jihoon who sometimes lied to you just to have a laugh? You were leaning towards the former, and Jihoon could read it from your face.
He groaned. “Fine, I’ll get you your pink heart-shaped waffles.”
The use of emphasis was not accidental and his brows rose in challenge, daring you to agree to his absolutely horrifying order.
“Heart-shaped?” You prayed he was joking.
Turning to face Soonyoung, you found yourself disappointed to realise he wasn’t. With a bright, proud smile on his face, Soonyoung nodded. “We’re switching up the menu for the holiday.”
Single and lonely as you were, you could think of few things less appetizing than pink heart-shaped waffles. Biting back a whine of frustration, you leaned your forehead onto Jihoon’s shoulder and mumbled, “Just get me anything but that.”
You realised your mistake almost as soon as you said those words. Eyes widening, you pushed yourself back upright and tried to stop him as he placed an order for cinnamon rolls and a Nuts About You praline latte with a wicked grin on his face. You both knew exactly what he was doing and he found great amusement in your misery.
“Perfect–,” Soonyoung started, already clicking away to add your order.
You interrupted with a rather loud, “I do not want that!”
Jihoon’s lips quirked. “Why not? Too nutty for you?”
“I just don’t want it,” you declared, crossing your arms over your chest as you glared at him. “Just because.”
He pretended to roll his eyes before turning to Soonyoung again, “She’ll have a Cupid’s Special Never Bean Kissed instead.”
“We’re no longer friends, Lee Jihoon.”
The stupid smile didn’t leave his face. “You don’t want me to pay for lunch?”
Second mistake of the day. You groaned and his laughter filled the store as you did so.
“Your food should be ready soon. Are you paying together or separately?” Before you could answer, Soonyoung added – and you could’ve sworn his eyes glinted with something not entirely wholesome –, “If you say you’re a couple, I can give you a 20% discount and two slices of cake for free. This goes until February 15th.”
You and Jihoon stared at him dumbfounded.
He shrugged. “I’m not allowed to assume.”
“What about this–” Jihoon widely gestured to the both of you, appearing equally baffled, “–says ‘might be a couple’?”
Soonyoung shrugged once more and put on a wide smile. “Are you?”
“No!”
“Worth a shot,” he sighed, his smile never fading. “You two could pull off being a couple though.”
“Why are we friends with you again?”
“Because you love me.” Your scrunched up face must have seemed doubtful enough because he soon added, “And my mom makes me give you employee discounts.”
“Exactly why does he keep offering us the couples’ discount every year?” Jihoon wondered under his breath two minutes later while practically throwing himself onto the chair across from yours. “He knows we’re both single.”
“Maybe he’s trying to play matchmaker,” you joked, grabbing a cinnamon roll off the plate he’d placed on the table. “You know, to set us up or something.”
Jihoon caught your eyes. A moment of silence passed as you contemplated your words.
Then he shook his head and huffed. “He’s not dumb enough for that.”
“No, you’re right.” You took a bite and almost moaned at the taste – Soonyoung’s mother had a knack for baked goods. “God, this is so good– Besides,” you quickly returned to the topic, “I think he might have been right last time.”
Jihoon’s brows furrowed. “What?”
“You know, the whole ‘you have to love yourself to be loved by someone else’,” you reminded him with a shrug. “I’ve been trying to do things for myself this week and it’s actually been so nice.”
“Things like what?” he wondered, grabbing a cinnamon roll as well.
“Well, the museum visit, for one. I got a text about it and thought ‘I don’t have anyone to take with me, but I might as well go for myself’, so I went and it was actually really nice,” you pointed out. “Freeing, in a way.”
He blinked. “I was literally with you the entire day.”
“You’re practically attached to me,” you joked with a dismissive wave of your hand. “It doesn’t count.”
“Your coffee’s ready!” Soonyoung appeared at the table with two cups. He placed one in front of you, keeping the other in a flimsy grip in his other hand as he did so.
Before you could comment on it, the other cup dropped from his hand with a loud gasp and an apology.
“I’m so sorry,” Soonyoung was reaching for tissues before you could even comprehend what had happened.
Then you felt your suddenly cold button-up shirt press and stick to your skin. Glancing down, you cursed under your breath and reached for a handful of tissues of your own, starting to dab away at the spots of coffee on your white shirt.
“Should’ve known something like this would happen,” you spoke through gritted teeth as Soonyoung’s lips kept spilling apologies after apologies. “This is why I never wear white.”
Jihoon sat frozen on his chair, wide eyes wildly switching between you trying to clean your shirt, and Soonyoung, practically on his knees, wiping the floor. Eventually, he settled on watching you.
Your desperate clean-up attempt soon slowed. It was no use. You didn’t possess the magic necessary to get an iced americano out of the white fabric.
“Can I do anything…?” Jihoon asked softly.
“Nothing short of finding me a new shirt to wear,” you told him with a laugh that had no joy in it. You still had four hours of work left and you were certain your boss would have a word with you for the accidental dress code violation – wearing clean clothes was, after all, written in bold on the first page of the employee handbook.
He frowned. “I could give you my hoodie to cover-up?”
You perked up at the idea. “Would you?”
He snorted a laugh. “Is that really a question?”
Without another word, he sat upright and pulled on the hem of his black hoodie, revealing a grey t-shirt under it. It took him a few seconds and some noises of struggling (that you suspected he only made to cheer you up), and then he handed the hoodie to you.
It was warm to the touch and smelled like your best friend when you pulled it over your head. Your day was better immediately.
“It feels like a hug,” you mumbled without really meaning to.
Jihoon’s breath seemed to get caught in his throat at that exact moment. He coughed twice before humming, “You say the weirdest things.”
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/72ba1210a096738fec4e980baa4c101b/6e40d8c4c734509e-db/s540x810/89c25df12f12c3f3060e3287f8d07bf232155f4e.jpg)
Thursdays are movie nights. No matter the situation, no matter your feelings, Jihoon and you would buy copious amounts of snacks and gather at either of your apartments to watch a movie together.
“We’re not watching The Lion King,” he declared while hauling your giant grocery bag up the stairs (he’d insisted it was easier to just stuff everything into a giant bag than to carry several bags; who were you to try and stop him?). “I don’t feel like crying today.”
“You never cry anyway,” you grumbled and supported the bag from underneath. There was just the tiniest tear in its side and you were growing wary. There was only one more flight of stairs to go.
He stopped and turned his head to glare back at you. “Are you suggesting I’m a monster? Who doesn’t cry during The Lion King?”
“You,” you supplied with an innocent smile and pushed at the bottom of the bag to urge him forward. “If you don’t want to watch The Lion King, then pick something better. I dare you.”
“Captain America.”
“I’m locking you outside,” you replied with a scoff. “You can sleep on the doormat, or maybe Ms. Kim will be merciful and give you one of her dog beds.”
“Can you stop acting like you don’t enjoy Marvel movies?” he wondered. “Or would that break your programming?”
As you arrived on your floor, you told yourself it was not worth the fight. You reached into your pocket to pull out the keys, ignoring Jihoon’s groans of exhaustion as you slowly and meticulously pressed the key into the hole. But when you began to turn it, the door handle tilted downwards and the door opened.
You blinked in surprise as Yoon Jeonghan gently ushered you out of the way so he could leave. He wore a pleasant smile as he opened the door wider to let you into your own apartment.
“What are you doing here?” you asked when you found your voice again.
He shrugged. “Wanted to see if you had any of that good ramyeon.” When you lifted a puzzled brow, he victoriously held up three packets of your favourite ramyeon. “I’ll be taking these. Thank you for being such a good friend!”
While you searched for words to say, he rushed down the stairs. He was still in hearing range when your brain kicked into gear and you called out, “How’d you get inside?!”
“Stole Jihoon’s key!” came a joyous reply from three stories below.
Beside you, Jihoon let out a loud groan of frustration, brows knitted and nose scrunched. “That son of a bi–.”
“I was looking forward to that ramyeon!” you whined and stomped into your apartment, pulling your best friend after you by the sleeve.
Lost in noodle-grief, you burrowed into the sofa cushions as he placed down the bag and began rummaging through the two drawers you had so kindly surrendered to him and his clothes. You watched as he closed the drawers with a defeated short hum and opened your closet instead. It didn’t alarm you – it hadn’t in years.
“Why are your shirts so much nicer than mine?” he suddenly asked, pulling off his crispy black button-up shirt to replace it with your favourite white t-shirt.
Momentarily you were brought back to reality just to reply with a short and simple: “Because I actually pay attention to what I buy from the store?”
His head turned just to give you good-natured glare. It soon gave way to a mischievous smirk – one crafted to annoy you. “Why would I do that when I can just borrow your clothes?”
“One day I’m going to take away your closet privileges,” you lazily vowed.
He stuck his tongue out. You always did bring the more mature side of him out.
As you turned on the TV – one that came with your studio apartment and would have been entirely useless if not for the movie nights –, Jihoon threw himself into the cushions next to you.
Taking advantage of your state of not-quite-being-there, Jihoon stole the remote. When you whined and tried to get it back, he laughed and pushed you away with his free hand. While you fought to get the remote, the TV began playing yet another Marvel movie.
The opening credits began playing and you only knew it was Iron Man because he’d made you watch this movie a thousand times. You wanted to argue but the movie nights had one unbreakable rule: once a movie starts playing, there’s no changing it.
“Seriously?” you groaned and threw your head back against the backrest of the sofa.
Like the TV, the green sofa had also been in the apartment for as long as you knew. You had always thought it to be a rather cosy and perfect lounging spot. Slowly, however, you were realising it had its flaws, the worst one being that with Jihoon’s manspreading habit, there simply wasn’t enough space.
“Move, you nudged his leg that was leaning too close to yours for comfort. “Hoon, you’re on my side of the sofa.”
He only nudged your leg back with a laugh. “Since when?”
“Since ten minutes ago,” you declared, pushing back harder. “And stop manspreading. That’s rude. You’re taking up all of the space.”
“Didn’t your mother teach you to be nice to guests?” he teased, leaning even closer with his whole body now until his chin rested on your shoulder.
You found yourself pleasantly surprised by his warmth. It was cold outside, you reasoned with yourself, of course you were enjoying any warmth you could get your hands on. Besides, it wasn’t often that Jihoon burrowed this close to you. You were bound to find joy in his rare act of affection.
Your joy was short-lived though because it was only now that you noted (with slight to moderate annoyance) that he had stolen a coke from your fridge. You scoffed.
“You’re hardly a guest. A parasite is more likely.”
As more and more of his weight pressed onto you, you groaned in pain. He only laughed at your misery.
“You steal my clothes. You steal my space. You use me as your personal cushion,” you counted. “Does your audacity have no limits?”
He paused, lips pursing as he thought for a moment. Then he smiled brightly. “No.”
It took all your strength to push him off you. He had the gall to giggle the whole way, and you soon found yourself laughing along with him.
“You’re awful,” you told him with an affectionate grin. Your efforts of moving him were in vain and he happily rested his head on your shoulder, occasionally slurping his (formerly your) coke. You tried really hard not to think of how awfully domestic this position would’ve looked to a stranger.
“You’re not allowed to complain,” he eventually told you. “You’re the one that stole my hoodie yesterday.”
You gasped, appalled by his accusation. “You offered!”
“I was practically blackmailed,” he spoke loudly as if announcing it to a theatre of people. “What choice did I have?”
“Maybe I need to do this self-love journey just so I’ll have someone who actually loves me and isn’t faking it to be a drama queen,” you concluded with a theatrical sigh.
Jihoon laughed and nudged your side. “No way. You’re stuck with me no matter what.”
And you appreciated that. You really did. But. There was always a but.
“How am I supposed to learn to love myself more anyway?” you wondered, leaning into the cushions as well as his warmth, angling your body to enjoy the benefits of both. “I socialised at Seungkwan’s party. I went to a museum. I feel like I love myself enough. What else can I do?”
“What do you have in mind?”
“Something that says I’m unapologetically me,” you said thoughtfully, trying to think of something. You weren’t entirely sure it had anything to do with self-love. Really, it was probably more-so to avoid your loneliness on Valentine’s day. “Something I’ll enjoy but find a little challenging, so when I’m done with it I’ll feel pride.”
“You could order your own coffee for a change.”
Dreams shattered, you let out a scoff. “I would but you never let me.”
“Yeah,” he agreed readily, “you always get the same thing anyway.”
“Well, what if I wanted to try something different?”
“You snooze, you lose. Just be glad I pay for your lunch.”
“Thank you, daddy.”
Silence. Long and awkward (just how you liked it) as you watched his reddening face with a wicked grin. This is what he got for being mean and useless. Finally, he ran a rough hand over his face and declared, “That’s it. You can pay for your own lunch from now on.”
“Oh no, how will I live,” you bemoaned, fully aware that he’d never let you pay for your own meals. “I’m still open to ideas though. I need something to do.”
Jihoon offered a mocking smile. “Well, you didn’t like my idea, so–”
“Please,” you begged, tugging at his shirt with one hand. “Anything. Please. Tell me to read The Odyssey. To start a charity. To paint an overcomplicated mural–”
Clearly uninterested in the topic at hand, he cleared his throat and rubbed his hands together. “Is it just me or is it cold in here?”
Now that he mentioned it, your hands were feeling a little freezing. Just a bit. And your toes felt like they’d been on an ice block this whole time. You frowned.
“No, you’re right,” you realised and jumped up to check the thermostat. It proudly showcased the number 10. You hurriedly set it to a higher heat. 10 degrees was not enough to keep you alive, you feared.
“Someone’s messed with my thermostat,” you told him as you returned to the sofa. “This old building gets cold so fast.”
Jihoon’s brows furrowed in thought. “You don’t think…”
“What?” you wondered, pressing closer to him in an effort to get warm again. The world off the sofa was far worse than you had anticipated and now you were forced to shiver as you waited for Jihoon’s natural warmth to reach you as well. You felt your eyes widen as the pieces clicked into place. “Jeonghan?”
“He was acting suspicious,” he confirmed as he wrapped an arm around your shoulder, effectively pulling you closer.
Though you found yourself wanting to purr in bliss, you told yourself he only did so because he felt sorry for you – you never were built for the cold climate. Making a mental note to fight Jeonghan the next time you saw him was the best distraction you had.
Minutes passed in silence, par the movie playing in the background. You weren’t sure either of you were focused on it. But the rule stood and neither of you dared to be the first one to break it. So you remained right there, in his arms, unable to think about anything other than your vengeance plan and Jihoon’s embrace.
It was warmer now. Whether it was the doing of your apartment’s heating or Jihoon holding you like you were his lifeline, you were too comfortable to contemplate. The soft chimes of dreamland were calling you now.
“You know,” Jihoon spoke, voice low and gravelly, “they say cuddling helps to preserve heat.”
You knew it was just a dumb excuse. You knew you should’ve poked his side and made a joke about him using you for his personal gain. But as you pressed your cheek against his chest and wrapped your arms around his frame just a little tighter, you forgot all about it.
By the time you remembered to argue, you felt your eyes getting heavy and his heartbeat slowing down under your ear.

You hadn’t disliked Seungkwan’s parties all that much last week or the week before that. But this was getting excessive – even Seungcheol had said so, but Seungkwan listened to no one. Seungkwan, you see, had a goal and no one could dissuade him from reaching it.
“I think at this point they have no choice but to crown him the party king,” Jihoon mused, once again sitting by your side on the sofa as the two of you watched the party host gloat about his impeccable party streak. “It’s quantity over quality.”
Taking a sip from your soda, you hummed in agreement. “If nothing else, they should crown him for all the effort alone. Have any of the others even planned any parties yet?”
“I think Seungcheol’s planning the Valentine’s day Party with Soonyoung.”
You nodded. “I’m definitely going to be sick for that one.”
“You’re going to have to pick a different excuse,” Jihoon pointed out with a chuckle. “You’ve pulled the flu excuse four times already this year. They’re getting suspicious.”
“Join me in becoming sheep farmers in Iceland?”
“If Seungkwan would find us in 14 days, Seungcheol would find us in half that,” he told you and you weren’t entirely sure he was joking.
You sighed. “Do you have to ruin all of my dreams?”
He laughed and nudged your shoulder. It was only recently that you’d noticed how often he did that. You hadn’t seen him do it to his other friends, now that you thought about it. It was always him and you. Perhaps, you thought, you had finally discovered his love language.
You noted with glee that he did it again, this time so slightly you almost didn’t feel it. “Thank you, by the way.”
“For what?” you wondered, unable to think of anything you had done to warrant those words.
The room seemed to get brighter, lit up by a radiant magical glow, as his face broke out into a wide smile. “For staying sober with me. I think I’d go insane here if you didn’t.”
“Now you’re just being dramatic. You’d live,” you told him and took a sip of your cola as you surveyed the room, taking note of your friends’ antics. “I’m not entirely sure about the others, but you would live.”
He burst out laughing at your words as if it was the funniest joke in the world (it really wasn’t; you had elicited far colder responses to far funnier jokes but you appreciated the enthusiasm). “You’re probably right. But still,” he took a calming breath, a bright grin still on his face, “I’m glad to have you with me. I can’t imagine you have much fun sitting here with a sober me when you could be doing drunk karaoke with Joshua and Jihyo.”
You were about to tell him there was no place you’d rather be when Vernon appeared from what you could only assume was the shadows and gave the two of you that blank helpless wide-eyed look of his.
You and Jihoon sighed in unison.
“What is it this time?” he wondered, already adjusting his sleeves and flexing his fingers in preparation for whatever herculean task awaited him.
The reply was short and laconic. “The fridge is being weird.”
Jihoon offered you a look that told you he couldn’t have cared less about the decade-old fridge Jeonghan had wrestled out from some old lady’s hands at the second-hand store. It wasn’t his property. It had, in fact, absolutely nothing to do with him because he didn’t live here.
“Just go,” you laughed and waved him away, earning a look of betrayal. “The child won’t leave you alone if you don’t help him.”
“I’m not a repair guy,” he told you with a mild glare before groaning once more and finally getting up. From his new higher vantage point, he could look right into your empty cup and roll his eyes as if he didn’t want to say the words he’d utter next: “I’ll get you a new drink while I’m gone.”
You sent him off with a grateful smile and a plan to conquer the space he’d left behind. Your feet would thank you for the gentle stretch of being rested on the sofa and you could already practically hear the odes they’d sing to you. But then, as fast as the spot beside you became empty, it immediately was filled again.
“I’m sorry if this upsets you,” a girl you vaguely knew by the name of Yeonmi spoke as she slumped into the free space Jihoon had left, slurring her words, “but I’m going to marry him.”
You quirked a brow. “Who? Vernon?”
“No!” She pointed at your best friend. “Him! Jihoon!”
You suddenly wondered if you were hallucinating this entire interaction. You blinked once, and then once more, before turning your head to look. Certainly Yeonmi was drunk off her ass and had mistaken him for someone else! Or maybe you yourself were drunk – who’s to say Jeonghan hadn’t mixed vodka into the soda once again? He’d done it before, more than twice.
But then you saw: Jihoon stood at the kitchen aisle. Laughing at what appeared to be the funniest joke in the world, he passed bottles of water around for his drunk friends. One by one, they accepted their bottles with grateful glee and promises to never drink again.
Then, whining something about how he’s not that drunk yet, Seungcheol tried to push the bottle away and your best friend’s grin morphed into a short-lived frown as he smacked him across the back of his head with the very same bottle and forced it into his hand. Just like that Jihoon’s smile returned as Seungcheol’s pout only pursed out more.
As you began to laugh at the scene, you suddenly remembered why you’d looked over in the first place. Brows furrowing, your head snapped to glare at Yeonmi once again. “You want to marry him?!”
You weren’t entirely sure why the idea irritated you as much as it did. Maybe Jeonghan actually had mixed something into the soda. You certainly had no other reason to be so irate by the concept of Jihoon marrying someone.
“Absolutely,” Yeonmi mumbled, gaze stuck as if Jihoon was a beautiful mirage that would disappear if she took her eyes off of him. She took a sip of her cocktail, unaware of the scathing look of disapproval she was on the receiving end of. “Isn’t he just perfect?”
Fighting to keep your irrational temper in check, you took a deep breath. “Since when do you like him like that?”
“Today.”
“What?”
Yeonmi must have taken the growing volume of your voice for a sign of excitement because she quickly added, “I think we’ll get married tomorrow.”
“You can’t marry him,” you told her without as much as a scoff. It wasn’t a joke. It was not a threat. It was a clear-cut fact of life. To you it was anyway.
Finally, Yeonmi tore her attention away from him and stared at you, blinking her saddened puppy-dog eyes. “Why not?”
You didn’t have a reason. Not a very good one anyway. “You just can’t.”
“But I want to!” She continued pouting. You noted with glee that it was the alcohol talking. Sober Yeonmi would never do this to you. But sober Yeonmi was far gone – six beers deep gone. “Why can’t I marry him?”
Unfortunately, drunk Yeonmi was far less reasonable than you knew sober Yeonmi to be. You had to think long and hard about your words if you wanted to put this conversation to rest soon. “Because he–”
“Who’s marrying who?” Seokmin stumbled into the conversation and onto the sofa, settling right between the two of you like a rather ill-fitting puzzle piece. A drink in his hand, a backwards cap askew on his head, and a comically large tiger plushie under his arm (one you could practically hear Soonyoung already frantically searching for), he stared at you two in child-like excited wonder.
You almost had a spark of hope – could this be your saving grace? your ticket out of this conversation that was irritating you for reasons outside of your comprehension? – until you realised that Seokmin was almost certainly just as drunk – if not more – as Yeonmi. You pinched the bridge of your nose and groaned.
“I’m marrying Jihoon,” Yeonmi declared all too proudly, her pout turning into a bright smile that could rival the sun. For a moment you found yourself almost bitterly thinking she was exactly the pretty kind of girl your best friend deserved. Then she just had to open her mouth again: “Tomorrow. I’m marrying him tomorrow, for sure.”
Her words were met with a dramatic gasp and a matching bright smile. “You are?”
“I am!”
“She’s really not,” you mumbled from where you’d been pushed against the armrest by their celebration.
Then Seokmin froze mid-squeal-of-joy. He slapped a hand over his mouth. He loudly whispered, “But you can’t!”
Yeonmi’s smile once again dropped. “Why not?”
“Because Jihoon’s (Y/n)’s boyfriend!” He told her with such conviction that you began to wonder if you had missed a major life event of your own damned life.
You frowned. “We’re not–”
“Oh.” Yeonmi nodded solemnly. “You are right. I can’t believe I forgot that.” She paused before loudly whispering, “You know, I heard they’re actually married. Eloped in Vegas during spring break back in college.”
“I heard that one too!” Seokmin pointed out with inexplicable uncontained glee. “I heard he wrote a song and sang it to her at the proposal.”
“That’s so romantic,” Yeonmi swooned, smiling like it was the cutest news she’d heard all day. Her dreams of marrying Jihoon had disappeared just like that.
But you felt like you were living in a nightmare.
“What are you guys talking about?” you cried out, watching them in astonishment and horror. “There’s nothing going on between us!”
“I mean,” Soonyoung joined in, leaning against the armrest like he’d been there all along, “you’re practically married, even if the elopement thing isn’t true.”
Yeonmi gasped. “It’s not?”
You ignored her.
“It’s okay if the spark goes out a little bit, you know what I mean,” Soonyoung attempted to explain? comfort you? Whatever he was doing, you wished he’d stop. “Relationships take work, you know.”
You felt your left eye twitch. “We’re not dating.”
This was news to your friends – if their wide eyes and dropped jaws were anything to go by, anyways.
“But–” Seokmin started, slumping in his seat as if his whole world had shattered into pieces. “But you’re Jihoon and (Y/n). You’re practically always glued together.”
“So? We’re friends. Best friends. You know this.”
“If what you guys have isn’t love, then what is?” he wondered, asking no one in particular it seemed. His gaze had frozen on the fairy lights taped to the ceiling. He looked close to tears and you decided you’d had enough of this and got up off the sofa.
It had been a while since you’d been out on the balcony anyway. It was nice and quiet and away from your nosy friends who clearly could not wrap their minds around the possibility of two friends not dating. The fresh air bit at your nose but you decided it was better than facing them again.
Looking out at the nightlife of the city below, your thoughts kept drifting back to what they said. Why had you felt so irritated at the idea of Jihoon being with someone else? He wasn’t yours to keep, as much as you liked to joke about it. He wasn’t your husband, he wasn’t your boyfriend, not even a friend with benefits. He was just Jihoon.
You were just you and Jihoon. That’s what it had always been.
So why did the idea of being ‘just (Y/n) and Jihoon’ suddenly sent a rush of rage and insult up your spine?
“(Y/n)?” a voice called out and you felt the subtle warmth of the apartment creep out through the opened balcony door. You turned to find Seungkwan standing right there, his kind eyes looking at you as if you were insane. “Aren’t you cold?”
“It was stuffy in there,” you excused yourself and turned back to stare over the railing.
He hummed in understanding but couldn’t stop himself from adding, “Could’ve just opened a window instead of standing out here without your jacket.”
You let out a short laugh. “I guess I wasn’t thinking straight.”
Warmth surrounded you, the feel of a soft knitted cardigan following soon after. “Better?”
“Yeah, thanks.”
“I’m a little surprised Jihoon hasn’t given you his sweater yet,” he noted under his breath as if he couldn’t decide whether he wanted you to hear it or not. He cleared his throat and added louder, “Sorry, I’m sure you’ve heard enough of Jihoon today. Seokmin and Yeonmi are a lot, I know.”
You weren’t sure whether to laugh or cry. “You heard them?”
“I’m sure half the party heard them,” he told you as if it was obvious before his expression melted into something more compassionate. “Do you want to talk about it?”
It was hard to choose. So you stayed silent instead. Seungkwan seemed to decide that was a yes.
“You know, I think Jihoon holds you closer to his heart than he sometimes lets on,” he told you. “Most of us see through his facade by now, but sometimes I wonder if you’re still one of the few who can’t.”
Great. Exactly what you needed: a double dose of ‘I’m an awful friend’.
“You know that keychain you have? That little cat he whittled out of wood back in high school?” He chuckled to himself. “He spent a whole week making it, constantly texting the group chat if it was perfect yet. Perfect for what, we’d ask and he’d always say it was for you like it was the most obvious thing.”
He leaned against the railing with you. Just as soon as he did so, he cursed. Seungkwan stepped away almost immediately. His voice was suddenly much louder than before: “It’s so cold! Can you even feel your arms?”
A little dazed by the information you’d learnt, you shrugged. “I guess.”
“That’s it,” he decided and grabbed a hold of your arm before dragging you back inside against your will (not that you were complaining; you suddenly realised it was indeed very cold outside). “If you want to be cold, I can give you ice cream, but please stop trying to contact frostbite.”
You barely made it through the kitchen door before running into Jihoon. It was starting to feel like Seungkwan needed to find a bigger venue for his parties because you were clearly not able to find even a minute of peace here.
“There you are,” he practically cheered at the sight of you, a wide grin breaking out on his face as if he hadn’t seen you in days rather than mere 20 minutes.
You were painfully aware of Seungkwan’s knowing smile as Jihoon handed you a cup of soda. You took a small cautious sip – it didn’t taste anything like alcohol. There went your accidentally tipsy theory. You let out a soft groan at the thought.
“You good?” he wondered, hand reaching out to pat your shoulder. “Soonyoung said you looked kind of upset.”
“I’m fine,” you said. It was a lie – at least it felt like a lie. You always did hate to lie to Jihoon. But what else were you supposed to say? “It’s just been a long day.”
If he caught onto your false narrative, he didn’t mention it.

It was 2 am and you couldn’t sleep. Your friends’ words kept echoing in your head and no amount of “we’re just friends” could keep them at bay.
For a short moment, you almost reached out to him. Your fingers knew the path to Jihoon’s contact in your phone without you even thinking about it. It was only when your thumb hovered above the green call button that you realised what you were doing.
You found yourself scoffing. Exactly was your plan? To text him? To call him and tell him…? Tell him what?
“Hey, Jihoon, I just wanted to let you know that Seokmin and Youngmi and probably half our friend group think we’re married or at least dating and, honestly, not even gonna lie, I think it suddenly made me realise I might be and have been for a while sort of, kind of, maybe just a little bit or maybe even very much in love with you. Thoughts?”
You didn’t exactly pride yourself in your ability to put together words (and you were certain Jihoon wouldn’t have cared much for it if you did), but even you knew you couldn’t tell him that. Certainly not at 2 am and definitely not after being his friend for so many years.
So you muted your phone, put on a ridiculously long historical movie you weren’t planning on paying any attention to, and found a tub of ice cream from the deepest crevices of your freezer. It was you against your demons now. You weren’t going to leave your apartment until you’d figured out how to look him in the eyes again.
Because Jihoon’s (Y/n)’s boyfriend. You’re practically married.
The voices kept echoing in your head like annoying little mosquitoes, sucking on your lifeforce. It was nothing short of irritating; not because you thought they were wrong, but precisely the opposite.
You sat on the sofa, head heavy with foreign thoughts. Foreign thoughts that weren’t all that unfamiliar at all – they’d been peeking their heads out every once in a while ever since high school. But you had always acted like they weren’t there: you brushed them aside, painted over them with other thoughts, and told yourself what you felt for Jihoon was just friendship.
Good old plain and very platonic friendship. Nothing else at all.
Your heart fluttering every time he laughed at your jokes? Friendship.
Your breath getting caught in your throat every time you saw him without a shirt? Definitely friendship.
The ugly jealous feeling in your chest – the very one that took over your entire being when Yeonmi said she’d marry Jihoon? Friends get jealous all the time, don’t they?
“They don’t,” the character on the TV said at that very moment, like a sign from the universe.
But you’re Jihoon and (Y/n). If what you guys have isn’t love, then what is?
The voices kept on echoing. You squeezed your eyes shut and drowned your sorrowful realisations in stracciatella ice cream.
Spoonful after spoonful, your brain numbed and froze. But the knowledge had sunk deep into the crevices of your very being and you knew that no matter what happened, one thing was true: nothing about your feelings for Lee Jihoon was platonic in the slightest.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/72ba1210a096738fec4e980baa4c101b/6e40d8c4c734509e-db/s540x810/89c25df12f12c3f3060e3287f8d07bf232155f4e.jpg)
Jihoon’s studio was a cosy and comfortable place. Dimly lit and full of his soft humming along to the songs he rarely let you listen to, it had become your safe space the day he showed it to you.
Never once had you felt out of place in it. But when he invited you to come keep him company this evening, you found yourself hesitating at the door for the first time.
It was as if you had forgotten how to act.
Did the you who felt only platonic feelings for Jihoon ever knock? Did you simply burst through the door and throw your keychain at his head when he was too focused on his work to notice? Or did you just sit outside the door until he suddenly remembered he’d invited you over and come searching for you?
Had your heart always sped up, doubling its pace when you stood in the hallway? Had you always worried your hair was a mess? Surely you hadn’t. Suddenly you felt like a fool for putting on a lip stain.
You forced a deep breath of air into your lungs and knocked on the door. It immediately felt wrong.
The door opened seconds later. Jihoon greeted you with furrowed brows and an amused smile. “Since when are you so polite?”
You feigned a laugh. “Had to make sure you weren’t rotting away in your chair.”
He rolled his eyes. His hand reached out and wrapped around your wrist before swiftly pulling you inside. “Come on, you’re probably freezing. How long have you been standing there?”
Silence filled the room as he led you to the sofa.
You realised under his confused gaze that the old you – the definitely-not-in-love-with-my-best-friend you – would’ve argued. You would’ve told him something silly to distract him from your tells of embarrassment. You would’ve shoved him and he would’ve laughed. He had expected you to.
Making your lips curl into another smile that wasn’t quite sincere, you nudged him with your foot. “Did you miss me? Be honest.”
Another silence. You thought of how he should’ve snorted a laugh and told you “you wish” before turning to his computer and telling you about his woes as a music producer. Instead, he frowned.
“Are you okay?” he asked.
Your mouth felt dry. “Yeah. Why wouldn’t I be?”
“It’s just,” he started, scratching the back of his head all the while watching you cautiously. You felt like a cornered stray cat as you sat on his sofa, still clad in your coat and hat. “You’ve been acting a little weird today.”
You wanted to laugh. You hadn’t even interacted with him enough for him to come to that conclusion. In fact, there had been a conscious effort to avoid him until you could trust yourself to look him in the eyes and not burst into ballads about how wonderful he was.
“I guess I’m just a little under the weather.” You still despised lying to him, but you told yourself it wasn’t a complete lie. If nothing else, you were at least a little bit love sick and you weren’t entirely sure yet whether seeing him was the cause or the cure.
His eyes blinked wide. “You’re sick?”
Jihoon waited a minute, watching you patiently (though you could see a line between his brows that only appeared when he was particularly frustrated). Then he walked forward. You blinked up at him standing over your seated form, his brows knitted with concern as he held the back of his hand to your forehead.
“Do you have a fever?” he wondered and leaned his face closer on instinct, pressing his lips to your forehead like a mother would to her child. He pulled back before long, seemingly finally realising his error, and grumbled, “Definitely a fever.”
Right. A fever. You were hot to the touch. Definitely a normal reaction to seeing your best friend for the first time all day. Nothing abnormal about that.
“It’s nothing,” you told him, still forcing a smile, and patted his hand. “What are you working on today?”
At the mention of his work, he seemed to perk up a little. His lips quirked in that way they always did when he was about to tell you a lie. “Nothing interesting.”
“I’ve known you for nearly two decades,” you told him with a scowl. “You can’t keep things from me.”
He scoffed and turned on his heel, returning to his usual seat at the desk. His eyes narrowed when he glanced back at you over his shoulder. “I’ll keep all the secrets I want from you.”
“No chance,” you teased, resting your head on your palm as you leaned forward against your knee. “You're practically transparent.”
“Keep telling yourself that,” he told you with a chuckle and turned to the screen. Before long, his headphones were on his head and his head was deep in the music again.
You’d never felt like you didn’t belong in this room and you didn’t feel like it now either, even as your chest threatened to burst open with all of your doubts and feelings. Your coat slid off your shoulders and you settled down on the sofa.
The you from before would’ve unlocked your phone and watched something on it at an obnoxious volume just to annoy him (but had that ever really been the goal and not just a ploy to get his unwavering attention at any cost?), but you found yourself lost in your thoughts, overthinking every memory you had of him.
You thought back to how he always seemed to be pressed to your side on movie nights – giggling in your ear, repeating and mimicking the actors just to make you laugh, nuzzling his cheek against your collarbone like a cat showing his affection.
You thought back to the late night calls and how they made you so giddy despite the fact that you desperately wanted to sleep; to the protective glares he gave any man that looked at you and how a shiver went up your spine every time he crossed his arms over his chest while doing so; to the shirts and sweaters of his that you had unapologetically stolen to keep warm at night and breathe in his scent.
As you watched him – his head bopping along to the beat you couldn’t hear, his lips pursed in an effort to not spoil the lyrics, his dark eyes flitting your way every so often –, you realised there was no room for doubts. There was nothing uncertain about your feelings for Lee Jihoon.
All this time, you had loved him for his laughter and his jokes. You had loved him for his yelling and his tears. You had loved him for his melodic voice and his silly 3 am ideas. You had loved him for the warmth of his hands when he taught you to play the guitar and the fond disappointment in his eyes when you failed your driving test for the first time.
There was nothing you didn’t love about him.
Even now you noted with certain fondness that one side of his headphones was off his ear just enough so he could hear you and it made you love him all the more so.
The only thing you didn’t entirely adore about this man was that he wasn’t yours.
His eyes found you again and he quirked a brow. “Why are you staring at me?”
“I think I just realised why I don’t like Valentine’s day,” you told him without thinking. It was silly. Of all the millions of things you could’ve told him, of all the possible insults and puns and jokes, you told him the vulnerable truth you had only barely just graped yourself.
Jihoon swiveled his chair to face you, suddenly intrigued. “Yeah?”
“Yeah.”
His raised both his brows this time, staring at you with interest. You didn’t shy away from eye contact – not now when you’d finally learnt to appreciate the shades of brown. You only smiled and watched him as he sighed in defeat and turned back to the computer.
“Fine, keep your secrets,” he mumbled under his breath.
You weren’t sure you had another option.

While you had always hated Valentine’s day, Seungcheol and Soonyoung loved it with their whole hearts. Who would’ve guessed that the two men who could strike fear in anyone’s heart with just a look were hopeless romantics?
After spending hours contemplating if you wanted to be present at this event at all, you arrived fashionably late. Why they had decided to hold the celebration the night before Valentine’s day was beyond you, even if it was the reason that finally convinced you to go.
Welcoming you into their house brimming with roses and heart-themed decorations, Seungcheol handed you a red paper rose at the front door and sent you on your way with a wink.
“Jihoon’s in the kitchen,” he told you with a smirk that said he could see right through you. You hoped you weren’t as obvious to the others.
Taking your time to look around was just an excuse and it felt like everybody knew it. They gave you smiles and winks and claps on your shoulder as you passed them by with soft greetings. You couldn’t help but feel nervous.
Looking for distractions, you craned your neck to look at the decorations. Heart-shaped balloons of red and pink and white floated against the ceiling. They were surrounded by pink and white party banners hung between the walls, cut into triangles with little hearts drawn in the centre, little fairy lights wrapped around the strings keeping them together. The floor was covered in rose petals. If Seungcheol and Soonyoung knew anything, it was how to go all out (and the amazed yet annoyed look on Seungkwan’s face told you he realised it could cost him the competition).
As you walked through the crowd, you realised that for once the pinks and reds hadn’t filled you with frustration and anger and resentment. Instead, a strange feeling of bitter sadness filled your chest. The spot on your side felt empty even with tens of people pushing past you. Even when you were avoiding him, you missed him.
You decided there was no point in torturing yourself further. After all, you thought, wasn’t being by his side but never being able to call him yours torture enough?
True to Seungcheol’s word, you found Jihoon in the kitchen. And you quickly realised why people had been greeting you the way they did. A laugh threatened to bubble out of you at the sight.
Jihoon stood on the kitchen island, surrounded by countless bottles of beverages, singing into a wood spoon. Eyes heavy-lidded in a way you hadn’t seen them be since that one night he got drunk in an act of teenage rebellion in 11th grade, he swayed in his spot and sang love songs at the top of his lungs.
You dreaded to think what Seungcheol and Soonyoung might think of his actions. But when you looked around you found that rather than trying to get him down, Soonyoung sat on the kitchen counter across from the island, a whisk in hand, harmonising. People came and went, getting their drinks, and loudly cheered the duo on but didn’t pay them much mind beyond that. Perhaps they didn’t realise how unusual this sight really was.
Their rendition of a Bruno Mars song came to an end to the sound of a drunken applause and a few shouts for an encore. Jihoon waved away the compliments, nearly knocking himself off balance in doing so. As he lifted the spoon to his lips to start another song, his eyes met yours. The spoon clattered to the floor and his body followed not much more gracefully.
He called your name with such joy that you couldn’t help but smile and open your arms as he practically tackled you in a hug. His face pressed against your shoulder so tightly that you worried if he could even breathe. “You came!”
You didn’t have any words to tell him, still too baffled by the situation at hand. Your eyes found Soonyoung’s and you raised your brows in question. He only smirked and shrugged innocently before practically dancing out of the room.
Drunk words are sober thoughts they say. That is the only reason why you hardly drank at gatherings; not at all because Jihoon once smiled at you all pretty and told you he was glad he had at least one sober friend to keep him company. But it seemed that tonight he was too drunk to appreciate the sentiment.
“I think I’m drunk,” Jihoon mumbled after a while and pushed himself upright. You kept one hand on his shoulder to keep him from tilting further left than he already was. “But it doesn’t feel so bad.”
“You’re going to regret this tomorrow,” you told him softly and led him to sit down.
Like an obedient puppy, he followed your command and sat on a chair, leaning his forearms on the back of it and his chin on the very top. His eyes watched you curiously as you found a glass and filled it with water. You held the glass out for him to take but he just stared at you with starry eyes.
“You look pretty tonight,” he finally uttered when you raised your brows in question.
You frowned and pushed the glass closer to him, hoping he’d take the hint. “How much have you had to drink?”
“Doesn’t matter,” he told you, a smile appearing on his face but there wasn’t any humour in it. It was hard to tell what emotions he was trying to convey: happiness? fondness? adoration? Whatever it was, it was making you just a little flustered. And then he delivered the final plow: “You always look pretty.”
Your heart was positively working at three times– no, ten times its usual pace. You sucked in a shallow breath and nudged him with the glass again. This time he took it.
“Since when do you drink anyway?” you asked to change the topic.
For once he answered the question and shrugged. “Soonyoung thought that maybe I should give it a try again. You know, with all the rejection and everything.” His gaze fell to the tiled floor as he mumbled, “It’s actually been kind of nice.”
“What rejection? Who would reject you?”
He laughed but it sounded bitter. “Who indeed?”
“Did you ask someone to be your Valentine?” you realised and it felt like someone was trying to carve out a piece of your heart. “And they said no?”
Jihoon scoffed and placed down the water. His hand reached for a different cup, full of liquor you could practically smell from all the distance away. As he lifted the cup to his lips, he spoke, “What’s the point of asking if they’re going to say no anyways?”
The room felt hotter than usual. You could hardly breathe. You hadn’t even known Jihoon liked someone. Of course you had to find out merely days after coming to terms with your own feelings for him. Your love life was cursed and so was everything related to Valentine’s day.
You stayed silent to mourn the reality.
“You know what’s the worst part?” he then spoke again. It was hard to tell how drunk he was because he was hardly slurring his words. “I see her every day. Well,” he frowned, “almost every day. Whatever.” He shook his head and took a long sip of the drink. “Every day I see her and every day I think today is going to be the day I finally tell her. And then I don’t. Because I’m just her friend. She’s spent all those years telling everyone we’re just friends and I don’t want to be just her friend. I want so much more. But every time I try to tell her so, I chicken out.”
You could hardly listen to his proclamations. Your eyes were burning, ready to shed silent tears. You wondered if he’d even notice if you did cry. The Jihoon in front of you was a side you hadn’t seen before and you loved him just the same, even if this side was reserved for another woman.
Finally lifting his head, his eyes found yours. They widened. “Are you okay?”
Turning away to discreetly rub the tears out of your eyes, you nodded. “Yeah, sorry. Must be allergic to something in the air. Maybe it’s all the pollen.”
When you turned back to him, he looked almost deflated. He looked down again and ran a hand through his hair. “Maybe you’re just allergic to me.”
The tears seemed to vanish at the absurdity of his words. “... What?”
He shrugged. “Every time I say something nice to you, you start acting all weird. Avoiding me. Sometimes I think that if I confessed to you, you’d die on the spot.”
Whatever Soonyoung had been making him drink had to be incredibly strong. Every sentence he uttered seemed more absurd than the one before.
“I should get you home,” you decided with a sigh, resisting the urge to tug your hair out. Just because he was drunk didn’t mean he could play with your feelings like this – knowingly or not.
He whined. “I don’t want to–”
“You’re drunk, Jihoon,” you told him firmly. “If you drink any more tomorrow, you’ll murder me in the morning for letting you get this hungover.”
Jihoon rolled his eyes and glared at you before pouting and looking away. “As if I’d ever hurt you.”
“You’re drunk and you’re not making any sense and I’m taking you home to sleep,” you repeated yourself and reached for his arm. You expected him to resist your strength as you pulled him up but instead his hold on your fingers tightened. He stood up and leaned forward, resting his forehead against your shoulder.
“I don’t want to go home yet,” he told you after a moment of resting. “Can we just nap somewhere?”
You didn’t have the willpower to fight. The little you had, he had shattered without meaning to. You went to hook your arm around his elbow – he didn’t let you, only tightening his hold on your fingers.
Without much of a choice, you squeezed his hand and slowly led him to a guest room. Seungcheol and Soonyoung’s house had two of these, one on the first and one on the second floor. For a moment you headed towards the one on the first floor. Then your heart ached just a little and you decided you needed to get away from the people to let your heart break in peace.
The second floor guest room had floor to ceiling windows covered with white curtains. The streetlights shone through at an angle that you knew would annoy you if you tried to fall asleep. You suspected that’s why they had designated it for guests rather than sleeping here themselves.
You practically shoved Jihoon onto the mattress to avoid any further complications. Instead of grumbling like you expected him to, he fell down with a series of giggles. You couldn’t help but smile.
There was a single fleece-lined blanket folded on the foot of the bed. You placed it over him with care. When you went to turn around and find a place to sit – or maybe even go back downstairs to drown your sorrows in wine –, his hand shot up and grabbed a hold of yours.
“Stay,” he spoke so softly you almost thought you hadn’t heard him right. “Stay with me. Don’t leave. Please.”
“I was just going to sit down,” you told him gently, trying to pull your hand free.
He let out a whine. “See? This is what I mean. You’re allergic to me.”
Exhaustion was making your head ache. Or maybe it was all the tears that were waiting to be shed. You didn’t have the energy to fight, so you sank down next to him, crawling to fit under the blanket with him. “Just go to sleep.”
His hand never left yours as he curled it to rest against his chest and placed his heavy head on your chest. Silence filled the room. You didn’t dare breathe – who knew when you could have him this close again without feeling guilty or angry at the fates?
Minutes passed. You thought he’d fallen asleep when he whispered, “When other guys flirt with you or smile at you or tell you you’re pretty, you smile and thank them. When I do that, you avoid me.”
You wondered when the topic had shifted from his mystery crush to you.
“Because we’re friends.”
“There it is again,” he mumbled, glaring at the ceiling as if willing it to crumble and rain down on him. “Friends.” The word sounded like venom. “I pour my heart out to you, I write songs to you, I dream of you every time I fall asleep, but that’s all I ever am. A friend.”
“It’s never bothered you before.” You frowned. Despite his harsh tone, you found yourself playing with his hair, and him leaning into your touch.
He let out a deep breath. “Because I’ll do whatever it takes to be with you.” His head nuzzled closer to you, his breath tickling your skin. You thought you felt his warm lips press down before he whispered, “The other guys will have to go through me if they want you for themselves. I found you first.”
Silence filled the room again, soon accompanied by his soft snores and mumbles of promises he wasn’t conscious enough to actually make. You weren’t sure you could sleep now or ever again, too busy putting the puzzle pieces together.
His words had mangled your heart in every way possible. And yet there was a glimmer of hope as you wondered what he’d meant by his words.
Drunk words are sober thoughts they say and now you found yourself wondering how much truth there was to his words.
He whispered your name in his sleep and you found yourself giving in to the wistful dreams of that being his truth. As you pulled him closer, you prayed you wouldn’t have to wake up to another heartbreak.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/72ba1210a096738fec4e980baa4c101b/6e40d8c4c734509e-db/s540x810/89c25df12f12c3f3060e3287f8d07bf232155f4e.jpg)
If you had thought the streetlights at night were a curse last night, then now you found yourself thinking that any and all kinds of outside light had been invented just to make whoever inhabited this room as miserable as possible.
The morning sun shone right into your eyes even through the curtains at 6 am. Even if you hadn’t spent the entire night in a restless limbo between sleep and trying to solve the mystery of Jihoon’s words, you would've been upset to awaken to the horrid rays of bright sunshine.
The more you woke up, the more your world seemed to be upside down. Sometime at night, Jihoon’s arms had wrapped around you, tight and secure as they held you close to his chest. His lips were pressed to your temple. You almost wished he’d never wake up so you could enjoy this embrace for an eternity.
But another part of you didn’t want to face the disappointment of him jerking away from you as he’d wake up, embarrassed to have ever cuddled you in his sleep.
You took a deep breath and slowly tried to detangle yourself from his limbs. Finger by finger, you pulled yourself free. You were just about to roll off his left arm when it suddenly curled and effortlessly pulled you back into his chest.
When you looked at him, Jihoon wore a frown and a pout. “You were supposed to stay.”
“I did,” you whispered, unsure if he was really awake yet or not.
“Stay longer,” he demanded almost childishly, wrapping his newly free arm around you once again. “It’s still early.”
Your brain was trying hard to convince you that he thought you were someone else. Then he mumbled your name again and you saw his eyes slowly flutter open. Instead of pulling away and apologising like you expected him to, he offered you a smile.
“What?” He chuckled, voice gravelly from sleep.
You hesitated. But you knew that if you didn’t get answers, you’d drive yourself insane. “Do you…” You swallowed. “Do you remember what you said last night?”
His brows furrowed just a little but his lips remained in a pleasant smile. “About what?”
“About the girl who you’ve wanted to ask out for years but never did,” you supplied softly. “And about us being friends?”
The joy melted from his face. His eyes wavered. His lips quivered. He gave them a nervous lick before practically gasping for air. He remembered.
You tried to choose your words carefully, you really did. But they still came out all clumsy like they always did. “Is the girl me?”
He looked like he’d been caught in a crime. But his arms remained around you – you wondered if he was filled with the same selfishness you’d felt the night before: the urge to enjoy this feeling of closeness before it could get ripped away forever.
“How’d you know?” he whispered.
“You said something last night,” you told him carefully. “Something that made me realise that maybe you feel … the same way as I do.”
He avoided your eyes, looking around the room. Then his gaze snapped back to you, suddenly full of clarity. “The same way?”
This was it, you realised. It was now or never. It was true love or losing your best friend. Except you weren’t sure you could still be friends even if you didn’t pour your heart out – could you look him in the eyes again and not think about the words he said last night?
“Jihoon, I think–” The words were on the tip of your tongue, clinging to it like it was their last lifeline. It was hard to say what you wanted to.
His face, so devoid of joy just moments before, had lit up with hope. “Yeah?”
“I think I’m in love with you. I thought I could keep it a secret and not ruin our friendship,” you told him through nervous laughter, turning to look at the ceiling, “but now I’m not so sure I could have.”
“What made you change your mind?” he wondered as he looked at you with nothing short of awe.
“When you were talking about that girl last night,” you were still struggling to breathe, adrenaline pumping through your veins, “I was so heartbroken. I was going to cry all through the night. Then you said something that made me think… It made me think, or maybe foolishly hope, that you meant me. Did you?”
“Did I what?”
“Did you mean me–?”
“I love you,” he replied before you could even finish your sentence. A smile appeared and you were filled with relief as he leaned his head closer to press against yours. “I’ve been in love with you since 7th grade. I thought I’d never get to tell you.”
“Why didn’t you tell me?” you demanded to know.
His breath sounded more like a hopeless laugh. “I didn’t want to lose you. I thought there was no way you’d love me back.”
“Clearly you were wrong.”
“Yeah,” he chuckled and surged forward to press a gentle kiss to your lips as if he couldn’t contain himself any longer. You savoured the feeling, pressing closer to him, tugging him closer with a hand on the back of his head. He pulled back and laughed again. “You have no idea how long I’ve wanted to do this.”
“Good thing you can do it again as many times as you please,” you told him with a smile. “You know, I’ve always hated Valentine’s day, but you have a real shot at changing that right now.”
The door burst open just as he matched your grin and began to lean closer. Startled, the two of you looked up. Clad in a tiger-striped onesie, Soonyoung stood at the door, eyes wide. Moments of awkward silence passed. Then his face broke out into a wide grin and he slammed the door shut. You heard the lock click just a second later, followed by an almost villainous laughter.
You exchanged startled looks with Jihoon. Then he shrugged and leaned forward to kiss you again.
“All the more time to make up for the lost years,” he told you as he pulled you closer. “Happy Valentine’s day.”

Author's Note: I both loved and hated writing this fic. If at any point, you found yourself thinking "huh, i wish the writer did more with this random crumb in this story that looks like it should've been a part of something bigger", i can almost guarantee you i had plans to do something with it and then forgot or abandoned the idea mid-way through.
Either way, I hope you enjoyed this fic at least moderately and if you did, please feel free to reblog with comments or leave an emoji-filled reply or maybe even send me an ask to let me know what you thought!

AHHH !!!! THIS !! THIS THIS THIS THIS THIS !!! I AM CONSTANTLY SHOUTING THIS AT THE ROOFTOPS. i find myself arguing for the natural world time and time again, even to people that ARE acquainted with it (this case in particular with things like wasps, mosquitos, common nuisance or ‘scary’ creatures).
for a long specific example, a couple months ago i had an argument with my partner’s best friend’s fiancé. she’s vegetarian/pescatarian. we were all in discord & i mentioned how i wanted to learn how to skin an animal. she was absolutely disgusted with me & we got into it & at the end of the day she believes any situation of killing & eating an animal is bad because it feels pain and there is no ethical way to do it. i brought up how bugs and fish feel pain but she doesn’t have a problem with squishing a bug or eating a fish. she disagreed with me and quoted “science”. GIRL. OUT OF US TWO WHO IS THE ONE READING THE MORE SCIENTIFIC PAPERS ABOUT NATURE & ECOLOGY???? oh is it perhaps ME??? where’s your papers? did you make an annotated bibliography on it??? are you aware that not all published papers are proof or telling you the truth? because at the end of the day the scientific world is also run on MONEY so i won’t delve into all of the issues of the scientific publishing world. what i’m getting at is show me how you’ve come to discern this. i’m willing to listen, but you can’t quote that science says so when you haven’t even done a cursory scroll through something like google scholar.
i got into it further & explained how i believe even plants have some level of consciousness & feeling of pain but how it isn’t necessarily comparable to the way we experience it. & with the vast RANGE of creatures & how they experience life, i do not find myself the arbiter of who deserves to die & get eaten. everything must eat and everything must die (((she had the audacity to argue that our teeth aren’t evolved to eat meat,, AHH))).
there is no escaping causing some amount of pain in the world, whether it be to your fellow human or some other creature. i’m sorry. i believe it is good to think about how you are causing pain & making decisions to cause less. i don’t mind that she doesn’t want to eat meat, i’m not trying to force her. we do treat livestock in utterly fucked up ways & there is so much wrong with our current food systems, but there’s also so much wrong with how we treat our fellow humans. there’s a lot of fucked up shit going on!! if you don’t want to eat meat in order to boycott that, i think that’s cool. i’m not going to stop eating meat, for various reasons (one being my difficulty with eating in general) and i don’t think that necessarily makes you better than me. i want you to stop acting that because you’re willing to eat a fish over a cow (creating this animal hierarchy of “worthiness of life”) that you are inherently more good and ethical than me. that you are the knower of truth in what is right. you’re not.
now as i was saying i would love to learn to hunt & skin an animal. i want to feel the connection it brings. i like to provide care to the dead. i like to thank them for meeting me in this moment. i don’t think that makes me bad. is anyone willing to teach me?
It's always so weird to come down from the biology heavens to see what the average person believes about animals, plants, ecosystems, just the world around them. I don't even mean things that one simply doesn't know because they've never been told or things that are confusing, I'm talking about people who genuinely do not see insects as animals. What are you saying. Every time I see a crawling or fluttering little guy I know that little guy has motivations and drive to fulfill those motivations. There are gears turning in their head! They are perceiving this world and they are drawing conclusions, they are conscious. And yet it's still a whole thing if various bugs of the world feel pain or if they are simply Instinct Machines that are Not Truly Aware of Anything At All????? Help!!!!!! How can you look at a little guy and think he is just the macroscopic animal version of a virus
#real life bug#i love the natural world and the whole spectrum of being that it shows to me#i cherish it deeply

Sonic And Amy Are A Unique Couple
This is a quick Sonamy rant /ramble session. With a few added clarifications too. Enjoy!
This couple is more unique than you’d think. It’s cool if anyone disagrees. I'm all for a polite debate and respect your opinion. But if you're willing to hear me out, I'll be willing to explain myself as clearly as possible. Great? Awesome! Let’s get started!
Amy doesn't want to change Sonic. I will scream this until I'm not able to speak any more that Amy loves Sonic for who he is. She always has but it wasn't until IDW that she expressed it out loud. Still one of my favorite moments between them.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/434c9cdf45601b767f1eb01ad1cd123a/c1b111d5204e656a-14/s540x810/dd6d0da16c9d8c8488831eee61f3daf9ef44beb5.jpg)
Does that make their relationship unique? Not really. What makes their relationship unique is what Amy loves about Sonic is kind of the reason they're not a couple yet. Sonic is an ongoing force that can’t be stopped or changed. Of course, he’ll allow someone to join him on a race, but he still keeps going. Not to say Sonic won’t stop to smell the roses (pun not intended) but he’ll do it on his own time. Amy always likes to take advantage of those moments and best of all, Sonic doesn’t mind. Even during their old chases, he’d slow down for her. Says a lot about the connection they have but there’s more
Their chemistry is…something for lack of a better term. Their back and forth is so interesting to me. Sonic does like Amy back. Notable examples here but to put it shortly, Sonic doesn’t know what he’s doing when it comes to romance. Sometimes he’s not into it and other times he’s chill. Sometimes Amy is ecstatic and other times she's bashful. I'm looking at you Sonic X.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/a4694f2710a81ed5239c84d1ee4acbc0/c1b111d5204e656a-40/s540x810/cf30e414dd1e1723718aedd0a0c0a3f5c621c62c.jpg)
Every time Amy’s occupied, is when Sonic wants her the most. Amy on the other hand wants Sonic to enjoy his freedom. Neither of them stops to think about how maybe they can have it both ways.
I'll also mention romance isn’t about “being tied down.” That paints romance as if it’s some kind of chain being rapt around your neck or being forced to be with the person. That is not romance. It’s keeping someone hostage. Something Amy would not do. Every time she’d joke around about marrying him Sonic didn’t take it seriously. Heroes included.
Sonic’s line in Heros: “Amy, knock it off. There's no time to play!” Dude knows Amy was messing with him. She was written to be girly, childish, adventurous, and cartoony. No, it wasn’t always executed well. Hello, Sonic Freeriders Amy! But I think this scene summons it up the best.
Important thing to mention as well is Sonic is an outspoken and honest character who rarely lies. It’s either you get the truth or you get nothing. He’s not the type to spare people’s feelings either, so if he had a problem with Amy in the past, he’d tell her directly. I do think she'd also stop if he genuinely told her to. The last thing Amy would want is to tarnish their friendship because of her actions. This loyal girl is so sweet.
Not to mention this is a popular trope in Japan too. The trope was what their relationship was based on.
Back to my original point Sonic and Amy aren’t a traditional couple. That’s a good thing. If they became canon their relationship wouldn’t change if they got together, but also they don’t need labels either. Romance isn’t or shouldn’t be a burden on you. That’s not how love works and that’s not what Sonic believes Amy to be. If that’s the case he wouldn’t be friends with her. Whether you ship Sonic with Amy, someone else, or no one, there should be no doubt Sonic values her friendship.
I’ll also add that Amy is just as up for an adventure as Sonic is. It’s why she loves him so much. They’re a power couple and love going out to travel, so there’s no staying in one place for these two.
In Sonic Adventure 2 you can tell Amy’s intuition when it comes to Sonic. Close to the end, she saw him looking a bit down and noticed his mood shifting a bit. “What’s the matter, Sonic?” “Oh, it’s nothing.” She knows him so well. I don't know what connection they run on but it’s inspiring.

These two don’t have a typical girl/boy relationship. I know some people say, “Well, why can't Sonic and Amy stay friends? Not every male and female relationship needs to be romantic.” You're 100% correct. Here are some examples.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/7ec661c3b7ba1e4d55f3f70d844e43d8/c1b111d5204e656a-13/s540x810/3c23a8cf04543795578dbf6553283f90f7d0971e.jpg)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/4bfb6a1ecd0e47745e617cc286928a11/c1b111d5204e656a-f0/s540x810/e0f54aee286bbf9dba6518a86d839a93950aa0f5.jpg)
The difference between other relationships is that Amy was created to be a Minnie to Sonic’s Mickey. Which is why these two are treated differently compared to others. Including in merch. There are more examples but I digress. The point is this specific pair is always going to have nuance even if they’re only friends. It doesn’t stop until Amy doesn’t love Sonic and even if it shouldn’t define her, it should still be a part of her. She might work without romance, but we already have other amazing female characters for that.
No one’s obligated to ship them because of this of course. Again, your opinion is still valid, and I will always stick to that point.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/68b7b296ab53d2c333feb5cbdfe0a493/c1b111d5204e656a-b0/s540x810/70dccc667a9e00d882b99cc914b5aebffd47946b.jpg)
Last but not least is their friendship (or situationship) as a whole.
The funny thing is their friendship is what makes their romance the most compelling. The appeal to Sonic and Amy’s dynamic is how much platonic energy they have. Romance doesn’t always mean you need to be lovey-dovey. With Sonamy it’s their powerful friendship that makes the (somewhat not platonic) interactions memorable. You don’t have to choose romantic or platonic. It can be both. I wouldn't be a Sonamy fan if I didn't think their relationship was plain. I'm here because of how different they are.
And I love them to bits. Look at this panel and tell me it isn't running with situationship fuel.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/3cdc935e69a044bd007c6210e62a7985/c1b111d5204e656a-37/s540x810/6ff6d9ea87b2fa5aa9d09388e8f0aa6711f3c8a2.jpg)
Another fun detail is in recent years despite knowing Amy still loves him, Sonic hugs her back. Even the moments in Sonic X he carries her are moments he offers to. Even when it wasn't necessary.
Can’t forget about the recent asking Amy out to a dinner panel in IDW. He's never done that before. There's a familiarity between the two of them however you look at it. I LOVE them for it.
His moments of genuinely being excited to see her are not due to some development but because Sonic’s passion for Amy has noticeably increased. Why am I bringing these up? It’s because one thing that hasn’t been talked about when it comes to romance is actions. Sure, Sonic doesn't fully confess his feelings to her outwardly. But why do you have to be obvious and in people’s face when it comes to loving someone? In Japan, love is mostly shown through what you do more than what you say. That stuff can happen there but it doesn't always have to. The “Sharing an Umbrella, Amy,” line in Frontiers carries a lot more weight when you think about the implications.
Please read this post by @egalitarian-tomboy if you're interested in the implications of Sonamy in Frontiers.

The up-to-interpretation view of whatever they have together is the main reason I and so many people ship them. It’s not the fact that they are close, but the progression of their closeness. To make a long story short, the appeal of Sonamy is the fact that they don’t have to be traditionally romantic to be an interesting couple. Amy represents expressive love and Sonic represents emotional love.
Stay creative! 💜

violet "vi" x female reader — 𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐞'𝐬⠀𝐦𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭
summary: on valentine's day, and you've finally worked up the courage to write a letter to your crush confessing your feelings. unfortunately, your friend accidentally gives the letter to the one person you can't stand. warnings/themes: fluff, one sided enemies, valentines, kissing cam, angry confessions, fast burn ig, mordern au words: 10.9k
You look at the letter in your desk, which you spent at least six hours working on to make sure it's perfect. Not just to make sure the words you're choosing are perfect, though—you want to make sure your handwriting is perfect enough that it doesn't look sloppy.
You grab the letter and read it over one last time… lovey-dovey bullshit, sappy stuff, romantic nonsense, etc.
You cringe at the last words, “Meet me at the bleachers... recess.”
It's so cliché, so stereotypical, and maybe you've had a couple too many cheesy romance movies in the past month. You've probably read a dozen fanfics that start like this.
If it were done by anyone other than yourself, you'd think it was absolutely dumb and corny as hell.
You know you could just message them through snapchat or on insta, or facebook, even just confessing through their email is a good idea… but, no, you just can't do that.
What if you say the wrong thing? what if you just happen to say something extremely cringy in your message? what if they screenshot it and put it on their story for everyone to see? what if they reply with “who is this...?” what if they start ignoring you?
Plus, you love your phone too damn much, and you know you're gonna end up throwing the damn thing because of the absolute panic you're gonna feel when your finger hits that send button.
You probably should have just sent a carrier pigeon or something… at least they could eat that.
Oh wait.
You forgot one thing.
You look around your room, trying to figure out what you left out. Your penmanship is on point, the words are as romantic as they could be, and the grammar is perfect... but what's missing?
The perfume.
The bottle of perfume is on your dresser, hiding behind the jewelry case. You spray it liberally, making sure the paper absorbs the smell of it, before finally folding it up neatly and placing it in the envelope. You seal the envelope with a kiss to the paper and hope it's the ‘special touch’ that it needs.
The smell is nice, just enough to have the paper absorbing it nicely, but not enough to be overwhelming (even if you love the perfume to death). You also want your recipient to be able to read the letter without cringing.
Okay, now it's really done. It's romantic, it smells good, and it's as perfect as you can get it.
Tomorrow's the day, and you finally feel confident. You have everything ready to go, you just have to figure out how to get your friend to deliver it to your crush's locker.
As you get ready for bed, the only thing you can't stop thinking about is how tomorrow will go.
Will they love the letter? will they finally realize the feelings you have for them and confess their own feelings? who knows?
—
“Come on,” you whine, begging Ekko for the fifth time. “Just do me this favor, please?”
Ekko just scoffs and gestures to the table. “I already told you, I have all of these-” he motions to the dozens of letters in front of him, “-that i'm supposed to deliver for girls that are crushing on Caitlyn.” He sighs. “I can't add any more to my to do list.”
“Please?” you beg, waving the envelope at him. “It's really important.”
Ekko groans and slumps forward, resting his chin on the palm of his hand. “Why can't you just deliver it yourself?”
“It's kinda.. embarrassing… for me to deliver it myself…” You fidget awkwardly.
“Ugh.” Ekko groans again but gives in. “Fine,” he relents, sitting up straight and grabbing the letter from you.
“Thank you.”
“Yeah, yeah.” Ekko waves his hand dismissively. He stands up and stretches out, letting out a deep sigh as he does. “Just remind me what locker number it is?” he asks, shoving the letters into his bag.
“Locker number is 13 C,” you reply, watching as Ekko slings his bag over his shoulder and starts walking out of the cafeteria. “It's pretty much right next to Caitlyn's, so you won't be missing it.”
“Got it,” he says, turning around and flashing a grin at you. “See ya later.” He gives you a salute before he disappears.
Finally.
After months of keeping your feelings quiet, your secret would be revealed. You just have to hope that it doesn't blow up in your face.
—
Ekko walks down the hallway, scanning through the numbers above the lockers until he finds the one he's looking for.
Caitlyn's locker.
He scans the area for any sign of Caitlyn, and luckily for him, the coast is clear.
He pulls out the envelopes from his bag, each one slightly crinkled from being stuffed in there. He counts up the total- ten, no, twelve... wait. Fifteen? that's more than he thought, he could have sworn there were less. He dumps all the letters on top of the locker hole.
He looks down at the remaining letter in his hand. Right, that one isn't for her. He sighs and places the letter next to her locker, just like he was told to do.
He gives the locker one last look but doesn't give it a second thought and starts walking away, whistling as he goes.
But... what Ekko didn't know is that instead of placing it into the locker next to it, he accidentally dumped it into 11C, aka, Vi's locker.
—
You wait at the entrance of your school, impatiently bouncing on your feet. Valentine's day is tomorrow, and you can't wait for your crush to read the letter you poured your heart into.
Then, you spot Ekko, and you're quick to greet him. “Hey!” You throw an arm around his shoulders. “So, did you put it in?”
He nods, gesturing to the school doors. “Yeah, I did.”
You sigh, relieved that the letter is in your crush's locker and will likely be seen by them soon. “Thanks.” You give him a squeeze on the shoulder before letting go of him. “I seriously owe you one for this.”
Ekko just brushes you off. “It's nothing.” He shrugs and shoves his hands in his pockets as you start walking into the courtyard. “Just doing my good deed of the day.”
“Mhm, hopefully tomorrow goes as planned,” you say, “I just hope they like it…”
—
Tomorrow finally comes, and it's the day you've been patiently waiting for. Valentine's day.
You're in your first class, waiting for your teacher to come in. You're distracted, your mind racing with thoughts about what your crush thinks of the letter.
Then, someone suddenly sits next to you, and you turn to look at-
“What the hell?” you blurt out, looking at Vi as she makes herself comfortable in the chair.
Vi smirks. “Hey,” she greets.
That smirk alone pisses you off.
You still haven't gotten over the fact that because of her, your grades had taken a nosedive. The two of you had been paired together in science class, and she'd somehow managed to blow up the experiment, all because she wasn't paying attention.
“What the hell are you doing here?” you snap, glaring at her.
She simply glances at you, then back at the desk she's sitting on. “What do you think? I'm sitting.”
The audacity?
“I know that, but why are you sitting next to me?”
“Come on, don't act like you don't know.” She throws in a wink, and your disgust quickly multiplies.
“Excuse me?” you sputter, completely caught off guard by her sudden flirtatious behavior.
“You really gonna act like you don't know?"
“No?”
She scoffs and leans towards you, smirk on her lips. “I mean,” she adds, eyeing you up and down, “I thought you'd be... happy... to see me.”
You're stunned, confused, and quite frankly, grossed out. “Happy to—WHY ON EARTH would I be happy to see you?” you spit out.
She huffs and slumps back into the chair. “Oh wow, thanks for the warm welcome.”
“Well, what did you expect? You haven't exactly been... pleasant to be around.”
She narrows her eyes and opens her mouth to reply but stops short as the teacher enters the classroom.
She finally shuts up, and you're left wondering what just happened. Why in the world is someone who is a pain in your butt cheeks suddenly flirting with you? is there something wrong with her? or has she lost her damn mind?
—
It's recess, and you're sitting on the bleachers, waiting for your crush to show up.
Your palms are sweating, you're starting to worry that your armpits are going to start smelling, you're probably going to end up throwing up on someone's shoes.
The letter was probably too much. The words were too romantic. The whole cliché “meet me at the bleachers” thing was just cringe. Who wrote that? oh right... you did.
But even if the outcome isn't what you hope for, at least you've got a good story to tell later or maybe a good reason to drown yourself in ice cream and cheesy rom-com movies.
You look around the bleachers once, twice, three times. You try to avoid glancing at your phone, but the urge to check the time only grows stronger.
It doesn't help that a couple of assholes are sitting a few feet away from you, loudly laughing at some video playing on one of their phones.
Recess is almost over, and your crush is still not here. Where the hell are they?
Maybe they could possibly be in the bathroom, having a nervous breakdown like you were? or maybe they're just taking their sweet time, making sure they're looking perfect?
Or maybe they're not coming at all.
And then you hear footsteps coming your way,
THIS IS IT.
Is your hair okay? yes. Are your teeth brushed? yes, dumbass.
You quickly wipe your sweaty palms, trying to calm your racing heart. You turn around, ready to see the face of an angel, the face of a goddamn god-
But instead you see the face of someone you'd rather shove into a brick wall.
Vi.
Why the hell is she... smiling at you?
“Damn, you look good from this angle.”
WHAT?
Why is this goddamn lesbian here with that stupid smile on her face?
“Why are you here?”
“Isn't it obvious? I'm here to see you.” She pulls out an oddly familiar envelope from her pocket and holds it in her hand, and you realize why it's so familiar.
Wait... that's your letter!
The one you wrote to your crush. The one that's meant to be in their locker, not in her damn hands.
How the hell did it end up with her?
She looks at the envelope, studying the handwriting on it, and then her eyes lock with yours again. “This is yours, right?”
Your hand quickly snatches the envelope from her hand. “How the fuck did you get that?”
Vi quickly snatches the envelope away, holding it out of your reach. “Whoa, woah, wait-”
“Give me that!” You lunge for the envelope, but she sidesteps you.
Vi laughs, holding the envelope away from you. “Isn't this for me?” She opens the envelope and throws it aside, then pulls out the letter and starts reading it aloud. “Dear... what the hell, how do you... whatever. Dear blah, blah, blah, happy valentine's da-”
“-SHUT UP!” You try to snatch the letter again.
“Hey, I'm not done reading it yet! This is my valentine's gift, after all.”
“That letter is meant for someone else!”
“Really? Then why did I find it in my locker?”
“Wait, what? You found it in—you're joking, right?”
She shakes her head, waving the letter in front of you. “Nope, I'm not joking.”
“How did you-”
“Someone put it in my locker.”
“That's impossible! I would never—I mean to you? there's no way that was meant for you.”
Vi squints at the words in the letter, then looks up at you again. “But this is definitely written in your handwriting, right?”
How did it end up in her locker? and how the hell does she even know what your handwriting looks like?
Your eyes dart from the letter in her hands to her face. Yes, it's definitely your handwriting. Yes, it's definitely the same stupid letter you wrote because you're a hopeless romantic.
“Maybe,” you grumble.
“Maybe? so it is yours?”
You avoid her gaze, avoiding her smug look.
She starts reading over the letter again, reading it aloud. “Meet me at the bleachers, how goddamn cliché-”
“STOP READING IT!”
“Damn, I didn't think you could be this corny.”
“Shut up, just-” You try to snatch the letter out of her hand once again, but she pulls her arm away.
“You wrote this much for someone?”
“Why do you care so damn much, anyway? You didn't get a valentine gift or something?” and now you're just being bitchy as well.
“What are you, ten?” she retorts.
“And what are you, an idiot?”
“I'm not an idiot, unlike you.”
“Oh, wow, are we back in sixth grade now?”
She looks down at the letter. “I'm not the one who wrote a heartfelt letter for someone who probably doesn't even like you.”
“And how the hell would you know?”
“Have you even talked to them before?” She lifts her head, her smirk coming back when you didn't answer. “Since whoever the hell you have a crush on doesn't like you-”
“They could still-”
“See, everyone has a valentine. Well, almost everyone, which means your crush probably got one too.”
“Yeah, 'cause you got that letter they were supposed to receive.”
“Maybe I was meant to have it then.”
“You're seriously that sure that the universe wants you to have this?”
“Maybe it's a sign.”
You pinch the bridge of your nose. “Are you just dumb on purpose?”
She grins. “I'm not doing it on purpose, and maybe it's a sign that I should be your valentine, that the universe is trying to tell you something.”
You roll your eyes. “Wow, so confident. If I didn't know any better, I'd think you're actually serious.”
“And what if I am serious?” You look at her blankly as she shrugs. She actually thinks she's funny. “I mean, you don't have a valentine, which does kind of suck, and I don't have one, which is by choice, by the way, so I think the universe is clearly telling us something.”
What the actual hell is wrong with her today? she didn't get enough sleep or something, and now she's acting like... like this? this is weird.
She's being weird.
“What, is the universe now trying to set us up? really? we're gonna get a movie based off this?”
“Hey, no one said this was a movie, maybe it's just a cute little high school romance,” she argues back. “Plus, you put a lot of work into this letter, and I'd hate for it to go to waste.”
“I'm not in the mood to start a cute little high school romance with you, okay?”
She heaves a dramatic sigh. “Look,” she says, holding up a hand to stop you from replying, “it's valentine's day, right? and we both don't have anyone, so it's just... for today, we can, you know... see what happens, and if it doesn't work out, then we can just leave it alone and go back the way we were.”
You blink slowly. “That sounds worse than your whole ‘the universe wants us together’ bullshit.”
“Wow, don't act like the idea of it is so awful. I mean, I'm not that bad, right?”
You're going to disagree with that with every single cell in your body, but you decide not to, instead, you just remain silent.
Vi seems to take your silence as agreement because she gives you this insufferable smirk like she just won something.
She continues. “It makes sense if you think about it. We're both single, you're already in a lovesick mood because of this,” she gestures at the letter, “so if we do, you know... we can get it out of your system, and you won't have to spend the rest of the school year pining over some person who is probably ignoring you anyway.”
Why is she making some sense? no, why is she sounding like... a good option all of a sudden?
“It's just for today,” she reminds you again. “We'll just see where it goes. Who knows, you might actually have some fun with me.”
This feels like you're cheating on your crush for even entertaining this stupid plan.
“You're basically saying that we're going to spend one day together and then you'll ditch me?” you retort.
“No, that's not what I'm saying,” she corrects you. “I'm saying we're gonna spend one day together, and if it doesn't work out, then we go our separate ways. It's just one day, it can't hurt. It won't be such a big deal.”
“I'm not going to be your one day entertainment.”
“Who said you'd be my entertainment?” She rolls her eyes, shaking her head at you. “You and I both know you have no other options. What're you gonna do instead, go home and cry over this person who doesn't even know you exist, or just spend the day wallowing in self pity while the rest of the school is celebrating love and stuff with their actual valentines?”
You wince at her harsh words because... she's got a point.
You don't have anyone to spend this day with, and the person you'd want to spend it with will probably spend it with someone else... so yeah, you have no plans, and yeah, you're probably going to just go home and wallow in self pity, wishing that today was over already.
What would happen, actually? if you go along with her stupid plan. You could finally have an escape from pining over your stupid crush who probably doesn't even notice you.
“Fine.” You snatch the letter back from her.
“Wait, what? really?” She's actually surprised. No wonder, she's the one who came up with this stupid plan in the first place.
“I am,” you say, “you don't want me to?”
She huffs out a laugh. “No, no, of course not. I just… didn't expect you to actually agree.”
“And why is that?”
“I don't know, I figured you'd still have a little bit of decency left in you.”
What a backhanded compliment. “I have plenty of decency left in me, it's you who I'd question, and besides... it's just for today.” You fold the letter and shove it into your pocket.
Vi hums, not taking that offense to your comment. “Just today,” she repeats. “Then tomorrow, boom, everything goes back to normal.”
You nod. “Back to normal.”
“I could kiss you right now.”
Whoa woah woah. Calm down. “Ew, what?”
“I didn't say I will kiss you,” she points out, “I said I could.”
You could say something mean to her words, you could try to change the subject or you could just walk away and forget this conversation ever happened.
But what you actually say is, “What's stopping you then?”
You hate how that sounds so casual. It wasn't meant to come out like that. What the hell?
You're not entirely sure, but something is definitely encouraging you to keep this going. Is it because you find everything she does annoying or that you've been pent-up over your stupid crush lately and you need to get it out of your system?
Vi raises an eyebrow at your words. “You want me to kiss you?” The words drip out of her mouth, like honey on a spoon.
“No,” you reply on instinct, because of course not.
But you can't stop the way your eyes flicker down to look at her lips. You look back at her face, and you know damn well she saw you look down at her lips, but she doesn't say anything about it.
“So now that it's official... you're my valentine, and today, we're going to have the shittiest, most awesome date-” she coughs, “-i mean hangout, that you'll ever have.”
“I doubt it.”
“Hey,” she says, “don't underestimate me, okay? I know how to have a good time,” and then she, god help you, she winks at you.
She looks like she's about to say something more, but she stops when the bell rings.
“Meet me at the parking lot after class?” she asks.
You find yourself nodding. “Yeah, sure.” You look at the field for a second and then look back, just so you can catch her reaction—and it's not at all what you were expecting. She's... blushing?
It's subtle, more subtle than you'd think, but her cheeks are definitely red, and when she realizes you notice her, she looks away.
She looks embarrassed.
She's embarrassed?
“Anyway, see you there... valentine.” She doesn't look at you. “Try not to miss me too much.”
What? miss her? She sounds like she's trying to joke about it, but something about the way she says it sounds sincere? What the fuck?
She starts to walk away. You're pretty sure you see another smile on her face, and if you didn't like her so much, you'd probably like how she looks when she does.
But you remind yourself, this is Vi.
The same Vi you've known for years, the same Vi who made your grades worse because of a stupid experiment, the same Vi who you'd probably love to throw out the nearest window if you could, and the same Vi you can't stand.
You force yourself to turn away, and you start to walk back to the school building. You try to push the image of her stupid blushing face and her stupid pretty smile out of your brain because you are not... going to make the mistake of being attracted to her.
—
Time passes by more slowly than a snail.
What's the saying...? ‘A watched pot never boils?’ You're pretty sure you could watch paint dry, and it would move at a faster pace.
Why is time passing so slowly today?
You're not sure if it's because you have this... ‘hangout’ to expect at the end of the day or if it's because you keep getting distracted by the thoughts of what is going to happen later.
What you do know is that you end up spacing out way too much more than a person should.
Thankfully, you don't have any homework, but your notes for the day are just absolutely horrible, a mindless mess of scribbles and pointless words. You're definitely going to regret this later.
The last bell mercifully rings just as you're in the middle of doodling a small sketch of Vi's face in the corner of your notes.
You quickly shut your notebook and stuffed everything into your bag.
You need to find your goddamn common sense first, but it seems to have left the room before you could.
The hallway is a goddamn mess.
Kids are running everywhere in the halls, screaming loud as hell, some girl is trying to stuff her locker to the point where it's going to explode, and some kid has got a goddamn boombox and is blasting music from it. There's the hallway drama that everyone loves listening to even though they should be minding their own business.
Seriously, it feels like you're in the middle of a goddamn jungle with the amount of people screaming.
Walking to the parking lot takes longer than it usually would. When you get there, you see a familiar head of pink hair leaning against a red motor, scrolling through something on her phone.
She hasn't noticed you yet, and you find yourself unable to move your feet for a second.
She's just leaning back against the motorcycle, lazily swiping through something on her phone. She's even biting her lower lip slightly, and for some reason, you really don't know why that's such a good look on her.
Okay, what?
You need to stop letting your brain run away with these thoughts.
You are not going to act like a middle school idiot who just got caught looking at her crush or something. You're an intelligent, mature human being. You're definitely not some dumb kid with an embarrassing crush either. Definitely not.
The sunlight makes her glow, and when she looks up from her phone, you feel you're hit with a wave of goddamn sun poisoning because the sunlight hitting her eyes makes them shine.
She looks over and sees you, shoving her phone into her pocket. She gestures you over with a slight jerk of her head.
You force your feet to start cooperating and get your ass over there.
“Glad you came.”
What kind of response would even be the right one for that? “Me too” would sound too enthusiastic. “Yep” sounds so disinterested, like you'd rather be anywhere else than here, when that might be partially true, but you're not trying to sound like a dick. “Same here” sounds like such a sarcastic tone, and “Of course I'm here, you're the one who forced me into this” would sound too rude.
Instead, you just say nothing, which she notices, of course.
“What, no smart shits today?”
“I have nothing to say to you,” you mutter as you turn your attention to the red motor behind her. You notice the scuffed up leather seat and the worn tires.
You then glance around the parking lot, wondering how many times you've seen this before. The motorcyclist who's always late to class, the seniors who smoke too much and are always ditching school, the students with cars who love to show off the brand new car their parents gave them, and the popular girls gossiping about some poor girl who can't afford nice clothes.
The sound of a motorcycle engine starting snaps you out of your thoughts, and you look up to see Vi getting onto the motorcycle
She pats the back seat behind her. “You getting on or what?”
“...is it like fast?”
“Is it like fast?"” she mimics in a childish tone before rolling her eyes. “Yeah, it's fast. Get on it and find out.”
“I just asked a question, no need to be a dick.”
“Are you always this bitchy?” she asks, then throws you a helmet. “Put this on.”
You catch the helmet, and you put it on. “Only around you.” You approach the motor and try not to comment on the poor condition and instead climb on behind her.
You have no idea what to do with your legs, so for a few seconds, you just awkwardly sit behind her, trying to position yourself like riding a horse.
“Are you gonna hold on?” Vi calls out.
“Hold on to what?”
“Me, dumbass. Grab my waist.”
“Hell no.”
“It's for your own safety.”
“I'm fine,” you shift around, trying to find a comfortable position.
Vi seems to start losing her patience with you. “If you want to fall off the bike mid ride and splatter onto someone's yard like a squashed bug, be my guest.”
That gets you to hold onto her waist out of pure spite.
“Just don't squeeze my abs too tight. I still need air.”
You scoff. “Who the hell is so narcissistic that they think something as simple as that would affect me?”
She huffs, amused by your snark, and puts on her own helmet. “It's not narcissism. It's just a joke,” she retorts.
You scoff again, but your hand tightens around her waist reflexively.
She chuckles. “Knew you couldn't resist.”
You pinch her waist. “Just shut up and drive.”
She snorts. “Touchy, aren't we?”
“Yeah, I am,” you reply sarcastically, pinching her waist again.
“Hey!” she exclaims, then sighs. “Okay, fine. I'll stop, just stop it.”
She starts the motor, and the hum of the engine vibrates throughout your body. It's louder being sat on top of the thing compared to how it sounds when you're on the ground. You feel this rumble throughout your chest, and you really want to comment on the poor thing making that much noise.
“Just hold on tight.”
—
“FUCK YEAH! WOOO!” you shout, punching the air with your fist and standing up. It's hockey, but who cares? you're not a fan, not in the slightest, but you're still screaming and cheering, all in a bid to support the team.
Vi is right beside you, shouting as well, while she eats a hot dog and washes it down with soda. “I thought you hated hockey!” she shouts over the crowd's cheers.
You shrug, but it's impossible to respond. You can't hear each other over the sound of the audience's cheers.
A few of the people sitting in the same section as you give you some weird looks, like you suddenly went insane. Well, can you really blame them? it probably looks like you have the sudden urge to yell random things for no reason.
Vi is the only one who doesn't look at you like you're some lunatic, her gaze is focused on the game, all while cheering, and occasionally making comments about the players.
It's different compared to watching it on TV. You're actually there, in person, surrounded by people who share your excitement and are as loud as you or louder.
You're also next to the most annoying person ever, but you don't want to dwell on that.
You drop down, back into your seat, and lean back, stretching your legs out. Your thighs and legs are starting to feel like jelly from all that screaming and standing. “Damn,” you tell her, shaking your legs. “I think I just strained a muscle or something.”
Vi laughs and sits down on her seat. “You know, I've been around here for years now. I probably know some people here.” She glances around the crowd of people, scanning them like she's trying to find someone in particular.
“Oh yeah? who's that in the third row then?”
She follows the direction of your finger and immediately points at a random person. “That's Fred! I once went to elementary with him.”
You have no idea if she's making that up or not. “And what about the guy next to him with the big hat?”
Vi squints at the section you pointed at. “That's George.” She then points at a girl with a black jacket. “That's Sneha,” she pauses, her eyes catching someone in the distance, “and oh-” her hand abruptly changes direction, pointing forward, “-that's Jenny,” she says, waving her hand. “Yo, Jen!”
The old lady turns around and nods her greeting. “Hi sweetheart, how's it going?”
“Doing good, gramps. Just watching the game with this one.” She nudges at you.
The old lady turns to look at you, her face taking the form of a smile. “Ah, a girlfriend, I see.”
Girlfriend? What's she talking about? “Um, no. Just a friend.”
Vi's eyebrows rise as her whole mouth goes ajar. “Friend?” she repeats, “We're friends now?”
“Only for today. Don't get used to the idea.”
The old lady, Melinda, hums. “Is that so? well, enjoy the game, children.”
“Yeah, yeah, we will,” Vi responds to the old lady, and once the lady turns back to watch the game, she leans in close, bumping her shoulder into yours. “That's Jen. She's basically the team's grandma,” Vi explains. “She's been here for years, goes to almost every game.”
You watch the lady continue to watch the game. “So she's like a regular here.”
“Yeah, sometimes she talks about how things were better in ‘her day.’”
“You two seem close though,” you point out.
“She's old and friendly,” she says, scratching her cheek. “Plus, old ladies are always fond of me. I helped her one time with her groceries after one game, and now she thinks I'm a sweetheart.” Vi shrugs, taking another bite of her hotdog. “She's also a nice lady. Always has candy and stuff to give out to everyone.”
“Candy, huh?”
“Yep,” she swallows and smacks her lips to get any food out from her mouth. “She always has peppermint discs, peppermint sticks, and chocolate sticks in her bag.”
“Why do you know that?”
“Everyone knows that.”
“Why does she have candy anyway?”
Vi takes another bite. “Just something she likes to give out,” she says, between chews, then points at the old lady's lap. “That blue thing she's knitting is actually a hat. She likes to give that out too.”
“Really?”
Vi shrugs again, eating yet another mouthful of her food, still somehow managing to speak at the same time. “Yeah, and don't be fooled by the knitting and the candy. She could beat you in a game of arm wrestling. She's still really buff.”
You nod silently, impressed with this old lady.
When Vi swallows the last bit of her hotdog, she pulls out her phone and points it at you. “I'm gonna take a picture of you... and put it on Tinder.” The second the camera's click sounds off, it takes everything in you to not grab her phone and throw it across the goddamn stadium.
She continues taking pictures, each time saying something different, like, “Look at this one,” or “This one's really good.” She holds up the phone, showing you a picture that's... actually not half bad. But you know giving her that reaction would just fuel her to do more, so instead, you scoff.
You turn your attention back to the stadium, trying to ignore whatever she's doing beside you. You look around. There are a surprising amount of men, guys, dudes, bros, etc. It's like they outnumber the women.
“There's a lot of dudes in here,” you comment. “Is it a testosterone fest over here, or what?”
Vi looks around as well. “Yep.”
“Do you think any of these guys like girls who love sports?”
Vi snorts. “Nah,” she replies, shoving her phone back into her pocket. “They're more interested in a girl who looks good in a jersey and knows how to bring them a cold beer.”
“So… basically they're only interested if we look cute and we don't open our mouths?”
“Pretty much.”
You groan. “I hate guys like that.”
“Hey, some guys aren't that bad,” she remarks.
“Yeah, and they're the ones in relationships.”
She thinks about it for a moment. “You know… I'm surprised you're not in a relationship.”
You give her a weird look. “Why?”
“Well, you're... y'know… cute.”
Is that a compliment or a fact? you are cute, you're aware of that, but still, it's weird how she said it and... did it look like there was a hint of something else in her tone of voice when she said that?
You force a smile, trying to brush it off. “Thanks.”
You both sit in silence for a moment, a silence you really want to fill with literally anything else than this weird awkwardness.
Just when the awkward silence couldn't possibly get more awkward, a sudden cheer from the crowd interrupts your thoughts. They're all looking up at something on top of the stadium. You furrow your brows before looking up, trying to see what it is they're looking at.
Your eyes land on the huge TV that's attached to the ceiling, and you see the words ‘KISSING CAM’ flashing in bright letters. The camera pans through the crowd, searching for a couple, and it lands on a couple who's sitting not too far from you.
“KISS! KISS! KISS!” You look over at Vi and see her cupping her hands over her mouth. She's standing up and shouting at the couple to kiss.
You watch as the girl looks up and sees the camera pointed towards her and her boyfriend. She whispers something to him, and it doesn't take a genius to know what she just said. The guy grins and leans in, giving his girlfriend a sloppy, wet kiss.
The crowd goes crazy, cheering and whistling. The couple pulls away from each other, both of them smiling.
You look at Vi again, who's still standing up. She seems to be enjoying this a lot more than you are, and you can see hearts in her eyes.
Once it seems like the camera has recorded enough footage, it moves to the next couple.
It goes to a couple sitting not too far away from you. The guy looks uncomfortable, but his girlfriend is completely eager to show some public affection. She grabs his chin and kisses him, but it’s only a quick, chaste kiss.
Vi yells out, “Come on, put some effort into it!” and then she sits down, leaning back in the chair.
The camera pans through the crowd again, skipping over several couples until finally landing on a group of guys. They look like they're having the time of their life, yelling at the camera and making rude gestures.
“Ah, boys…” an older man next to you sighs.
The camera captures the guys for a while, they're all laughing and having a good time.
The camera moves away from the group of guys and lands on Vi and a girl sitting right next to her.
Vi immediately makes some hand gestures, shaking her head and probably saying no. “We're not-” but before she can finish, the camera moves away from them, unsatisfied with this answer, and lands on the other girl sitting next to Vi.
You.
Fuck.
“KISS! KISS! KISS!” you hear someone, it sounds like the same person who cheered on the other couples.
You look over at Vi, who's watching you with this stupid smile on her face. You glare at her, she's clearly enjoying this way too much.
You lean over to her, through clenched teeth, you hiss, “This isn't funny.”
She shrugs, still smiling. “I think it is.”
“Well, I don't.”
“It's only a kiss.”
“It’s still embarrassing.”
“Oh come on, it's Valentine's Day!” she replies. “What? are you worried that you'll suck at kissing or something?”
“Excuse me? I am an excellent kisser.”
“Oh yeah?” She quirks an eyebrow. “Then why are you so worried about this? it won't be some gross open mouth kiss, it'll be just a little peck.”
You narrow your eyes at her. “Because I don't want to be seen kissing in public, in front of hundreds of people,” you say, lowering your voice, “And I definitely do not want to kiss you.”
“Come on, you don't have to sound so disgusted by the idea of kissing me.”
“Because I am,” you say simply. “I don't want to kiss you anymore than you'd want to kiss me.”
“I never said I didn't want to kiss you.”
That statement takes you by surprise, you had just assumed that she would be grossed out by the thought of kissing you.
The chants start to get louder as more and more people join in. “KISS! KISS! KISS!”
You hear the same guy from before. “Kiss! c'mon! it's just a quick kiss, do it.”
You hear another girl from behind you. “Oh, come on! one little kiss! what's the big deal?”
It's no big deal.
But at the same time, you're starting to panic. You don't even know how to act right now, are you supposed to play along with this? are you supposed to ignore it? what the hell is happening?!
Your brain is starting to mush into mush because why are so many people chanting? why are they making such a big deal out of this? it's just a kiss, right? right… so why are you so nervous?
You turn your head to see Vi looking at you, her eyes staring into your soul.
“A kiss on the cheek will do,” she says aloud.
You're going to die.
Your heart is going to explode right here, in the middle of the stadium, and then your guts are going to spill out right in front of everybody.
Maybe it's best just to get this over with?
All you have to do is... just a kiss on the cheek. That's it.
You just have to get it over with before this turns into something bigger.
You're not really gonna enjoy this, you'd just get the feeling like you should have brushed your teeth harder in the morning.
Vi's not even attractive in the way that you would want to kiss her cheek, her skin probably sucks from waking up in the mornings, there's no way she remembers to wash her hair at least three times a week. What about her breath? There is no way that she actually brushes her teeth every day. Her breath probably tastes like stale cheetos and mountain dew. There is no way you're gonna get a single bit of pleasure from kissing her cheek.
But you do it anyway.
You press a kiss on her cheek, and it's... warm, and they burn under your lips. The smell of her body spray isn't overwhelming. It's subtle and pleasant. Her hair isn't as greasy as you imagined, and it feels kinda nice when your fingers brush against the side of her face. Her breath doesn't even smell like mountain dew and cheetos, it's actually minty and fresh, like she just ate a pack of gum.
You pull your face away before you let your brain get to you, but you just keep looking at her face because there is this huge grin plastered on her face that makes your heart beat faster. Her cheeks look red, and the tips of her ears are even red too.
The crowd goes nuts. You can barely hear the music or the announcers over the chanting. The kiss had lasted all but a few seconds, but the feeling on your lips linger.
You're both looking at each other like you've just seen each other for the very first time.
She's actually gorgeous.
How is it possible that you only now realized how beautiful she looks?
You look away, but even in your peripheral vision, you can see her looking at you. There's still a stupid grin on her face, and she looks happy.
She's actually happy that you kissed her on the cheek.
—
You and Vi are sitting in the parking lot after the game ends. Vi had bought some $5 pizza, but since the place is packed, you're now sitting in the parking lot with Vi's motorcycle parked behind you.
“I'm gonna be honest,” Vi starts, her face twisted up as she chews on a slice of pizza. “This is the best meal I’ve ever had.”
You hum, nodding along.
Vi takes another bite, a big one, and chews on it, her cheeks stuffed. She swallows and sighs contently. “Man, I should have bought two boxes,” she grumbles, looking down at the one last slice left in the box. Then, she looks up, straight at you, and grins. “You want the last slice?” she offers, holding up the box with the slice still left in it.
You shake your head, and she looks at you with skepticism. “Are you sure you don't want it?”
“I had three slices already, I'm fine.”
Vi looks at the slice of pizza that's still in the box, then at you. She looks like she's considering something, then shrugs and pops the slice into her mouth. “Suit yourself,” she says, the words garbled since her mouth is still full of food.
Something about this moment feels... comfortable. Strangely comfortable.
It's weird. You don't understand why you don't feel threatened or uncomfortable or annoyed or any of those things, even though she's sitting right next to you.
But, oddly enough, you feel safe.
Or maybe that's just because you can't think of anything to say.
Or maybe it's because the silence isn't awkward.
Or maybe it's because you're distracted by the way she seems to enjoy her food.
Because... it's so... weirdly satisfying, watching her chew her food, watching her swallow, watching her use the back of her hand to wipe off the sauce on her chin.
You have no idea why you're paying attention to those little details.
But... you are.
You're not sure when you started paying attention to those.
You're not sure why you feel so comfortable around her right now.
You're not sure of a lot of things, actually.
You're not sure how to feel at the moment, or when your dislike of her had dwindled down to... whatever the hell this is, to whatever this weird, unfamiliar feeling in your chest is.
You're not sure why the corners of your lips keep trying to twitch upwards every time she makes some stupid face.
You're not sure why you're fine sitting in the freezing cold of the parking lot. Not even on the motorcycle, but on the cold ass ground, just sitting behind the motor, back leaned against it.
You're just fine sitting here, and you're just fine knowing that after this, you'll have to go back home and deal with a bunch of bullshit again.
You don't get it.
What changed?
She used to get on your nerves, and you used to get on hers.
She's still the same, isn't she?
And you're still the same.
Everything, suddenly, feels... different.
The air feels different, the atmosphere feels different, the whole world feels different.
The only thing that hasn't changed is her.
Well, no, that’s a lie.
She has changed.
She feels different.
She's not the same girl you can't stand.
And you're not the same girl she can't stand.
Everything is just different.
Maybe the two of you had changed.
But you're not sure how.
You're not even sure when you started noticing it.
But those little details about her, those little behaviors and quirks and habits that you used to find irritating and annoying… they're not bothering you anymore.
She's still a pain in the ass, but she's... well, a tolerable one.
For now.
You don't understand.
Or, rather, you won't allow yourself, at least not yet.
Because you're not sure how to process everything.
And, honestly, you're afraid to even try.
You look at her, still eating on the slice of pizza, and there's a small smear of sauce on the corner of her mouth. “You've got something on your face.”
She tilts her head. “I do? Where?”
Your eyes slowly move down, from her eyes to her nose, and then... her lips. Then, you notice something... freckles. She has freckles. little ones, spread across the bridge of her nose and cheeks, and they're… really cute, really, really-
What in ever loving hell are you thinking?
“Hello? you alive over there?”
You snap out of it. You're not about to let her see you be weak just because she happens to have a pretty face. “You had something right… here,” before she can respond, you raise your hand, reaching for her cheek. You wipe the sauce off the corner of her mouth with your thumb. Your thumb accidentally brushes against her lower lip, and something in your chest twitches.
Vi freezes, her eyes widening as you touch her lips.
Everything feels... slower.
You can hear the sound of her breathing as she exhales, how it hitches when you brush your thumb along her lower lip.
You don't know how, or when, but you find yourself leaning closer to her, your hand still cupped on her cheek.
Her gaze flicks to your lips, her own parting slightly.
...
Holy shit.
You snatch your hand away, realizing what you just did.
Damn it, what the fuck?
You quickly stand up, trying to regain your composure. “I-” Your voice comes out as a croak. You clear your throat, trying to sound normal. “I should... get home. I think it's getting late.”
Vi is still sitting on the ground, and then she shakes her head, as if waking herself up. “...right. Yeah, it is getting late.” She slowly stands up.
“I... umm…” you start awkwardly. “I should-”
“I'll... drive you home,” she interrupts whatever you were about to say.
Your head snaps up, surprised by the offer. “What? You don't have to-”
“I want to.” Her tone leaves no room for argument, so you shut your mouth. You don't want to prolong this weird, confusing moment anyway.
—
Vi's motorcycle comes to a stop in front of your house. The engine making that clunky, sputtering sound before it finally dies.
“We're here,” you say, trying to break the awkward silence that has been between the two of you since you got on the motorcycle.
You manage to finally slide off the motorcycle, but unfortunately, you're still attached to the helmet. You attempt to unbuckle the chin strap, but the damn thing seems to be glued to your head.
“Ugh, this piece of crap,” you mutter, struggling with it.
“Here, let me-” she cuts in, reaching for the straps.
“No, I got it,” you insist.
“I know you can, but let me.”
You glare at her, feeling stubborn, but it's not like you're getting anywhere. “Fine.” You let your hands fall to your sides as she reaches for the straps.
She unbuckles it with ease, finally freeing your head from its confines.
You take the helmet off and give it to her, trying to not make eye contact. “Thanks.”
There's a moment of what could be an awkward silence before you both speak at the same time.
“So-”
“I-”
You cough awkwardly. “Go ahead.”
“No, you can speak first-”
“No, no, I insist. Go ahead-”
“I'm fine-”
“Stop being stubborn-”
“Says you-”
“Yeah, I am stubborn-"
“Shut up-”
“Make me-”
What did she say? Was that... an invitation?
“Are you challenging me-”
She snorts. “Pfft, no, that-”
“Then why would you say something like that?”
“I don't know, thought it'd be funny.”
“It wasn't.”
“It was a little funny.”
“No, it wasn't,” you scoff. “Whatever. You were saying?”
“Oh, yeah,” she replies, shifting on the motorcycle. “I just wanted to say…” Her gaze shifts from you to the side, then back to you. “I just wanted to... say that I had... fun today. Yeah…” She shrugs. “What about you? what were you sayin'?”
Huh. “I guess it wasn't the worst thing that ever happened to me.”
“Wow,” she says, deadpan. “So glad you're not completely miserable being around me.”
“Don't get your hopes up too high, it's just for today, remember?” you remind her.
“Yeah, I remember, I'm not an idiot.”
“Could have fooled me,” you retort, and a smirk makes its way to your face.
“Watch it,” she warns, the corners of her mouth curving upwards. “I'm only tolerating you today.”
“The feeling is mutual,” you quip back.
The two of you share a look and then start laughing. You're glad she's starting to loosen up a little.
“Alright alright, truce?” She holds out her fist.
You roll your eyes but bump your fist with hers anyway. “Truce.”
There's another silence, but it doesn't feel... awkward like the last ones.
Then, she speaks up, “Well... I guess I should go.”
“Yeah,” you reply. “I guess you should.”
“See you at school, then?”
“Unfortunately,” you grumble. You take a step back, getting ready to turn around and head to the front door.
“Hey,” she suddenly says.
You glance back at her, raising an eyebrow in question.
“Can I…” she starts, then hesitates, “...can I ask you something?”
You shrug. “Yeah, go ahead.”
“Just... promise me you won't be mad,” she hedges, not quite looking at you directly.
“I'm not promising anything-”
“Just... humor me.”
“Fine. I promise I won't get mad.”
She takes a deep breath. “Do... do you… do you actually hate me?” You're silent for a moment, trying to find the words, but she starts backpedaling. “Ugh, never mind, I shouldn't have asked, forget it, it doesn't matter-”
“No, no-" you interject, “I don't- I don't hate you.”
“You don't?”
“No... I don't hate you.”
“You sure?” she presses, leaning forward on the motorcycle, resting her arms on the handlebars. “Then why are you always so pissy whenever you're around me?”
“I dont-” you start, then stop. “I'm not-” you start again and stop again. “Remember that time in science lab?”
“When we lit the bunsen burner, the table caught on fire, we got three detentions, and everyone thought we were going to be expelled?” she recalls.
“Yes… that time.”
“Seriously? that was months ago.”
“I never said I was the most forgiving person.”
“It was a mistake,” she points out. “I didn't mean to do it, I was just being stupid.”
“It was still your fault. You didn't look at the instructions.”
“I was distracted,” she counters.
“By what, your big brain? cause you definitely weren't paying attention to the experiment instructions.”
She looks away, shifting uncomfortably on her motorcycle. “Actually, I was distracted by something…” her eyes return to yours, “-someone.”
“You're making it sound like it was a person you were crushing on or something.”
She falls silent, looking away again.
Wait.
Hold on.
What?
“Wait—wait a minute,” you demand, walking closer to her.
“What?”
“You were being distracted because you were crushing on someone during the science lab? That was the reason that whole thing happened? You couldn't keep yourself from being distracted because you were crushing on someone?”
“That's not fair to say,” she protests.
“Not fair to say?” you repeat, scoffing. “I literally got three detentions because you were more interested in staring at someone-”
“Fine! Whatever. Maybe I was distracted, maybe I wasn't paying attention-” she admits defensively “-maybe I was looking at-” she cuts herself off again. “Whatever, I'm going home.” She starts her motorcycle, not glancing at you.
“Hey-” you reach out, grabbing her arm. “Wait.”
“What do you want?”
“What was that person's name?”
“What does it matter?”
“Cause, I have a hunch.”
“Care to share this hunch with me?”
“Uh, Caitlyn Kiramman…?”
She snaps her head to you, eyes tracing up and down. “Are you actually this clueless?” she sneers, then drives away, leaving you alone on the sidewalk.
“Hey!” you shout. “Seriously, what is your problem?” you call out after her. “We were having a decent conversation, why did you-”
Suddenly, she stops, braking abruptly in the middle of the sidewalk with a quick skid. Before you can say, or think, she has her motorcycle facing you once again. She swings her leg over and hops off, walking up to you with a determined look.
“You want to know my problem?” she asks, coming closer. “I'll tell you my problem.” She grabs your shoulders, forcing you to step back. “My problem is that it's been years. Years, and you still have no idea, do you? you're still just as clueless as always.”
“What are you-” you stumble, struggling to keep your footing. Her hands are tight around your shoulders, holding you in place.
“You keep saying I'm the one who causes trouble, I'm the one who always makes your life harder-” she continues. “But you-”
You manage to find your footing and look at her face.
“-don't seem to get that you're just as guilty of making my life miserable.”
“Vi-” you start, but she doesn't let you finish.
“Every time you smile at me, every time you look at me, every time you talk to me.” She shakes you. “Every time you do something stupid, which is all the goddamn time,” she spits. “You don't seem to get that it drives me insane.” She huffs, letting go of you. “I've been right in front of you this whole damn time, and you just didn't even-”
“Didn't what?”
“You had no idea, did you? You don't understand why I’m so damn irritable whenever I'm with you, you don't get why I'm always trying to pick fights, why I can't just be civil, why I can't just be normal around you… you just think I'm a jerk!”
“Well, maybe you are. You did just grab me like a fucking maniac.”
“Oh, shut up,” Vi snaps. “Just shut up for a second.”
You shut up.
She takes a deep breath. “You think I enjoy this?” she asks, and the question sounds genuine enough that you regret the ‘maybe you are’ comment.
She scoffs. “I don't. I wish more than anything that I could just be calm and civil and… and nice around you. But instead, I'm always getting into your face, I'm always picking at you, I'm always trying to piss you off, because it's the only goddamn way I can get your attention.”
“Any time I try to be normal around you,” she continues, “I get... I get ignored. You act like I'm not even there. But the second I get in your face, the second I do something stupid or obnoxious-” she gestures at herself, “-suddenly, you're right there. You're looking right at me, you're talking to me, for once, you're actually paying attention to me-”
“Why do you even care about my attention?!” You don't mean for it to come out as angry as it does, but the pure confusion you feel causes you to raise your voice.
Vi looks away, a frown twisting her lips, before she snaps her gaze back to you. She sounds oddly embarrassed when she speaks. “Maybe because I'm completely, miserably, head over heels in love with you, okay?!”
Wait... what the actual fuck?
Vi looks away, the words leaving her in a rush. “I'm in love with you,” she repeats, quieter and slower. “There's no maybe about it. I've literally been in love with you since middle school.”
“So, instead... instead of just telling me,” you start, “you... you decided to be a jerk to me for the past six years?!”
“I was twelve!” Now her attention is fully on you as she gestures at herself. “I was a dumb kid, I didn't know what to do, but I was desperate for you to notice me. Every time I tried being nice, I got ignored, so... I guess I decided that if you weren't going to notice me in a good way, then I was just gonna piss you off and make you notice me in a bad way.”
“And then, I just kept doing it,” she continues, “because then, you would notice me, and you'd talk to me, and at least you weren't ignoring me. It became a habit. It was the same damn cycle every day. So, you know, I'm sorry if I don't suddenly know how to behave like a normal goddamn human being around you.”
She looks at you defiantly, she's expecting a fight, an argument, and the last thing she expects is for you to... laugh
You laugh. You don't laugh because you think it's funny, you laugh because you're so unbelievably shocked and overwhelmed that the only thing you can do is laugh. You try to cover it up, you try to muffle your laugh by bringing your hand to your mouth, but it's too late, you've already laughed.
“Why are you laughing?” she asks. “I'm being serious, okay? this isn't a joke, it's not some sort of prank. I am dead serious—I just confessed to you, and you start laughing? Jesus, you're actually heartless, you-”
You manage to get your laughter under control, your body still shaking with a few silent chuckles, but you manage to speak in between your breaths. “You have the worst-” and another chuckle, “-worst timing, I swear to god.”
“Oh I'm so sorry that my confession didn't please all of your fucking needs,” Vi says sarcastically, “but I've spent god knows how long in love with you, and I just had to take my shot. And what are you doing? You're laughing at me. Because your pride can't stand-”
“Would you shut up for like two seconds?!” you snap, cutting off her rant in an instant. “I'm not laughing because you confessed to me, okay?!”
“Then why are you laughing, huh? why is this so funny to you? because I don't find it very funny-”
“Because-” you sigh, and you're actually surprised by how... nervous you suddenly feel. “I never expected this, okay? I never expected you to actually... feel that type of way about me, and to top that, you're confessing to me in the stupidest way possible.”
“I didn't plan on confessing to you at all!” she protests. “It just... kind of happened. Plus, you've never been too keen on me.”
“I-” you begin because 'not keen on you' feels like an understatement. You've never liked her, or rather you've never let yourself even consider her as an option because your heart was set on one person only. “I just need some time to... process this.”
Vi scoffs, her face looking annoyed again. “You need time to process this? what's there to process? I just told you how I feel about you.”
“Yeah, well, I need to process that! Because you just dumped a lot of information on me, and right now I'm-” You pause, trying to pick just the right word. “...overwhelmed, okay?”
Vi's features soften, not quite fully, but just enough to show a little bit of sympathy. “Overwhelmed,” she repeats.
“Yeah…” you reply, “I mean... you just confessed to me, and I... I've never-” you gulp. “-I've never really thought of you... that way.”
“Never thought of me, or never let yourself think of me?”
Okay, woah, that's... a very accurate question.
She's right, and it's scary that she just pointed that out.
Maybe in the back of your head, you've wondered things, you've had thoughts, but it was all so brief, you've always been quick to brush them away. It never even crossed your mind that maybe you had been missing out on something.
You're not sure how to reply, and it gives Vi a chance to continue talking.
“You never let yourself think of me like that, huh?” she continues, “That's pretty sad, because I've literally been in love with you for the past six years.”
“Don't guilt trip me,” you snap. “It's not like I asked you to fall in love with me, is it?”
“I'm not guilt tripping you. I'm just trying to get you to understand how I feel. I'm just trying to make you see that I...care about you, okay? I'm not trying to—ugh!” She groans, rubbing a hand over her face. “I'm screwing this up, I'm screwing everything up, because apparently I suck at confessing and you… you mess with my head.”
“I mess with your head?” you repeat. “You're the one who's messing with my head! You're the one who's messing with my emotions, you—you just turned my entire life upside down, and you expect me to respond to it perfectly?!”
“Not perfectly!” she retorts. “You're seriously not getting it, are you? All I want is for you to-”
“What do you want then? you want me to say that I feel the same way about you? that I've secretly been in love with you for years and never said anything?”
“No, that's not what I— that's not what I want you to say at all!” She runs her fingers through her hair and pushes it out of her face because the haircut she has gets everywhere. “All I want you to say is that you'll even consider me as an option! I just want you to give me a chance. Is that so much for me to ask for?”
You groan to yourself. “Look, if you like me that much, then maybe you should at least make an effort… and then maybe... I'll give you a chance!” With that, you walk towards the front door.
Vi doesn't respond, not immediately, she just stands there watching you leave, a stunned look on her face. But she manages to shake herself out of that stupor in time to follow you.
“Are you serious...?"
“You want me? You gotta work for it,” you respond without slowing your footsteps.
“Woah woah woah, what? work for it?” she sputters, trying to keep up with you. “What more do you want from me?”
“I want-” You stop in front of the door, suddenly turning around to her. “-I want you to prove how serious you are. Just confessing to me isn't going to change everything, and if you're being serious,” you jab a finger to her chest, “then prove it.”
“And how exactly am I supposed to prove myself, huh? Please, tell me, because I'm really at a loss here.”
“I don't know, figure it out.” You shrug. “You claim to be in love with me, right? and if that really were the case, then you have six whole years worth of feelings inside that-” you point at her “-that heart of yours, and you better damn use it.”
“Fine,” she says, and her tone is determined. “You want me to prove it? I'll prove it. I'll prove it so much, you're going to be drowning in how much I prove it. I'm going to do everything just to win your heart. Just watch.”
That sounds cheesy, but... you'd be lying if you said you weren't intrigued. You scoff, turning around and opening the door, but not before saying, “We'll see about that.”
—
Vi stares at the closed door, her thoughts completely occupied with your words.
Prove it.
She shakes her head, a grin on her face as she walks back to her motor.
You and her have had a rocky past, but she's determined to wipe the slate clean.
Vi swings her leg over her motor. She grips the handles tightly and starts the ignition.
She's going to start from the ground zero with you.
And by god, she will prove herself.

This took me so long I'm so sorryyyyy. I meant to do this like, last week. I've just been busy prepping for my new addition lol.
I adored this one, you did such a good job writing him and I think this is one of my fav Logan fics from you!
Like always my thoughts and such are below the cut ~
He hates how commercialized the holiday is thanks to the multi-billion dollar corporations that fill department stores with trinkets the second that Christmas is over. He hates all of the pressure and unrealistic expectations that come with planning the perfect date. And as much as he hates to admit it to himself, he hates that it's a stark reminder that he's just as alone in this universe as he had been in the last one.
My first thought was yes, I feel this hard.
He'd never admit it aloud, but just maybe the fact that he can’t keep his thoughts from straying to a specific next door neighbor certainly doesn’t help. He hates to use the word crush at his grown age, but he can’t really think of a better word for it. If it’s not a crush, why else would he be wondering what your plans are for this evening? Why else would he feel the unmistakable, undeniable twinge of jealousy when he thinks of the mere possibility of you spending your night in the arms of someone other than him?
I love a jealous Logan. I love the neighbor trope so much too, it was one I never really thought about until reading your fics.
“Oh, no. Not a date,” you correct him quickly with a bashful grin. “Well, maybe. Is it considered a date if I’m dining by myself?” “You’re going to dinner by yourself?” Logan asks, unable to hide the surprise in his tone. “Looking like that?”
Ay ay ay...Logan, don't judge. Sometimes it's nice to go out and treat yourself
All it takes is one look at the table that the host takes the two of you to for Logan to realize that he has indeed never had Korean barbecue. You don’t appear to be the slightest bit confused so he assumes that the circular grill built into the middle of the table is normal, though he’s never seen anything quite like it in a restaurant before. You giggle when you notice the curious expression on his face. “It’s kinda like hibachi,” you begin. “Except instead of someone cooking it in front of you, you cook it yourself.” Logan takes in the array of various meats on the tray to the left of him. You pick up a piece of what appears to be some kind of beef with a pair of tongs, and place it on the grill. It sizzles, and he watches as you add a few more pieces of meat onto the hot surface. “Isn’t that kinda the whole point of going to a restaurant? To have someone else cook the food for you?” He asks the question as gently as he can, not wanting to hurt your feelings. He’s just happy to be here with you – even if he doesn’t fully understand the appeal of going to a restaurant to pay to cook your own food.
I've never been to a place like this or had Korean bbq at all and my first thought was the same as his, but I've always wanted to try it lol.
“Last week, when we got stuck in the elevator together,” you begin in a low voice. He swears that your eyes flicker to his lips for a split second before meeting his gaze once more. “Were you nervous?”
She's better than me I'd NEVER work myself to ask him this lmaoo
“Do you wanna come up to my place?” you breathe, nodding your head in the direction of the apartment building. “What? You don’t wanna come to mine and hang out with Al?” he teases, nudging you in the direction of the building’s entrance. “As tempting as that sounds…” You trail off, following his lead. The second that the elevator door comes to a close, his hands are back on you. He backs you up against the wall, his hands gripping your hips as you spread your legs enough to allow one of his thick thighs in between them. This time, he’s the one who kisses you, wasting no time in slipping his tongue between your lips. You whimper into the kiss, your tongue fighting his for dominance.
Yesss this is what I was waiting for! She's so playful lol and he's a big ol' tease.
“Fuckin’ hell,” you groan. “Not this again.”
No no...this is good.
There’s a mischievous look on your face. Before he can question you, you’re sliding down the wall until you reach the floor. You reach for his belt with your hands, making quick work of undoing the buckle and then the button to his jeans. Oh. All Logan can do is stare down at you in wonderment as you tug his zipper down. “This okay with you?” you ask, but the look on your face says that you already know the answer.
This okay with you - girl, he's about to bust rn. He's def okay with this lol
Later, he tells himself. He’ll get you naked later, in the privacy of your apartment, where there’s no risk of the elevator doors sliding open at any given moment.
A gentleman, don't argue w me.
Your cunt tastes as sweet as the fruity wine from the restaurant did on your tongue. He eats you like he wants to get drunk off of you, alternating between soft licks through your folds and fervent kisses to your swollen bud. He feels your legs quiver around the sides of his head. He supports you from below, letting you go all but limp above him. He glances up at you, your head thrown back in pleasure and your chest heaving with ragged breaths.
He is diving in there 😩 Grab his hair and tug -
“Do you.. wanna wait until we get back to your..?” “God, no,” you exhale, and pull him to you by grabbing his flannel in your fists.
LMAO same girl 😭
“Mind if I still come back to your place? I know we just…” He trails off, glancing down at where he’s still tucked inside you. “But I just realized I forgot to pick up cigarettes for Al and she isn’t gonna be too happy with me.” You roll your eyes, and playfully push him away from you so that you can tug your skirt back into place. “I think I can find a way to be okay with that,” you smirk. “If we ever get out of this fuckin’ elevator.”
This ending was so hilarious too I absolutely loved it from start to finish. The fin little moments and the build up, the smut scene was HOT and the funny little quips added into the fic were MUAH. You did sooo good with this one ~ 💕💕💕
either way, i'm going your way

logan howlett masterlist
Logan has been alive for two centuries worth of Valentine's Days. He can count on one hand how many he’s actually celebrated, and he can't recall the last time he had a reason to even acknowledge the day.
To him, Valentine’s Days have always been just another Tuesday, or Thursday, or whatever day it falls on that year.
Technically he can't say that he's entirely alone. Romantically? Yes. Sexually? Yes.
Physically, however, he’s lodged between a blind eighty-year-old cocaine addict and a ten pound living tumor - the latter of whom keeps trying to French kiss him.
Wade might be out with Vanessa for Valentine’s Day, but for Logan, this is any other Friday night – watching Who Wants To Be A Millionaire reruns with Al and Mary Puppins.
Something about his current predicament makes him feel even more alone than if he actually were alone. Maybe it’s how unfamiliar and foreign this universe still feels in so many ways – he’s been here for some months now, but there’s some things that remind him that he still has a ways to go in terms of adjustment.
He has no one to blame but himself, and he knows it. He had the perfect opportunity to ask you out just last week, and he didn’t take it. The two of you were both taking the elevator up to your neighboring apartments when it broke down for the third fucking time in the last month. It took nearly an hour for maintenance to get it back up and running, and he couldn’t find the nerve to simply ask if you have any plans at any point during the time you were trapped in the fifteen square feet of space together. Instead, he awkwardly rambled about he had walked in on Wade and Vanessa in a compromising position the day before.
He cringes at the memory, tossing back another swig of whiskey when he realizes the bottle is empty. He sighs, earning a side-eye from Mary Puppins.
If this is how he’s going to be spending his evening, he should at least be a little intoxicated.
“I’m going to the liquor store,” Logan announces as he transfers Mary Puppins from his lap to Al’s before standing up from his position on the couch for the first time in hours. “You need anything?”
“Pick me up a couple of scratchers and a pack of Newports.”
Just her usual requests, then.
Logan throws on his leather jacket, dreading the cold and dreary February night but willing to face it for a bottle of bourbon and some cigars. He’s been out of those since yesterday, so a trip to the nearest convenience store is much needed, anyway.
The door to the apartment complex’s singular outdated elevator is sliding to a close when Logan hears a familiar, feminine voice call out.
“Hold up!”
Logan immediately pushes the hold button, freezing the door in place. A second later, you appear in the doorframe. You’re slightly out of breath, with a relieved expression on your face.
“Thanks,” you greet him as you lean against the wall of the elevator, smoothing your hands over the fabric of your plaid skirt. “I’m running late to my dinner reservations and really didn’t wanna have to take the stairs in these.” You glance down at the heels of the uncomfortable looking thigh high boots that you’re wearing.
Uncomfortable looking and hot, he thinks, before your words sink in. Dinner reservations – of course you’d have plans tonight. He feels a slight pang of disappointment (and jealousy, if he’s being honest with himself) at the realization, but he isn’t surprised.
“Well, let’s cross our fingers that we don’t get stuck in here again and that you make it to your date on time,” Logan says with a forced laugh and smile as he pushes the button once again to close the door, followed by the button that says lobby.
“Oh, no. Not a date,” you correct him quickly with a bashful grin. “Well, maybe. Is it considered a date if I’m dining by myself?”
“You’re going to dinner by yourself?” Logan asks, unable to hide the surprise in his tone. “Looking like that?”
Your eyes widen in shock. “What’s wrong with how I look? And what’s wrong with going to dinner by myself?”
“Nothing!” Logan begins to backtrack when he realizes how his questions came across. “You - you look great. I'm just a little surprised. Would’ve assumed that you had a date tonight is all—”
He trails off when he realizes that you’re pursing your lips together in an obvious attempt to hide a smirk. The mischievous glimmer in your eyes gives you away.
“I’m just fucking with you, Logan,” you snort with a playful slap to his arm. “I know it’s a little unconventional to take yourself out on Valentine’s Day. But I’ve always loved the holiday despite being painfully single, so I thought why not? Better than sitting at home and sulking all night.”
The corners of his lips threaten to twitch upwards at the words painfully single as he contemplates the rest of your response. He can’t help but admire your way of thinking. He was content with staying holed up inside the apartment and drinking himself into a stupor, but he can’t deny that your outlook on the holiday is far less depressing and boring than his.
“What about you?” you ask as the elevator comes to a stop with a melodic ding. You exit, looking back at him over your shoulder. “Are you on your way to your Valentine’s plans?”
He chuckles at the question. For a second, he considers lying to you. He considers telling you that yes, he is on his way to pick up his date right now, just so he doesn’t have to tell you the truth – that he’s on his way to buy bourbon, cancer sticks, and lottery tickets for him and his elderly roommate. But with his luck, you’d run into Wade tomorrow and he’d open his big fucking mouth about how Logan actually spent his night, and the thought of that is even more mortifying than telling you the truth to your face.
“Not unless you count making a liquor run as Valentine’s plans,” he sighs, averting your gaze as he opens the door to the apartment building for you. “The only thing I plan on doing tonight is listen to Althea scream at her game shows.”
You come to a stop outside of the apartment building, wrapping your coat tightly around your chest to fight off the chilly night air. There’s a peculiar look on your face that Logan can’t quite read – something between amusement and hesitation.
“You could have worse dates, I suppose,” you laugh.
“That’s true,” Logan agrees. “At least I have Vanessa to thank for a Wade free evening. But I’ll let you go, don’t wanna make you late for your—”
“Do you like Korean barbecue?”
Logan freezes, taken aback by the question. He snaps his mouth shut, realizing he’s staring at you like a deer in the headlights.
“Korean barbecue?” He asks lamely. “Don’t think I’ve ever tried it.”
He’s had barbecue. He’s had Korean food.. maybe? He’s been alive a really long time, he’s sure he’s had Korean food at some point in the last two hundred years.
But he can’t say that he’s had Korean barbecue.
A nervous looking grin appears on your face, and you cross your arms over your chest before taking a small step towards him.
“Are you hungry?”
••••••
All it takes is one look at the table that the host takes the two of you to for Logan to realize that he has indeed never had Korean barbecue.
You don’t appear to be the slightest bit confused so he assumes that the circular grill built into the middle of the table is normal, though he’s never seen anything quite like it in a restaurant before.
You giggle when you notice the curious expression on his face.
“It’s kinda like hibachi,” you begin. “Except instead of someone cooking it in front of you, you cook it yourself.”
Logan takes in the array of various meats on the tray to the left of him.
“It’s about the experience,” you explain with a shrug. “To be fair, when most people come to a Korean barbecue restaurant, they usually come with a group of people – hence the large amount of meat.” You nod towards the arrangement of the meats that have yet to be cooked.
“It’s a social thing. But all of my friends had plans with their significant others tonight, so…”
You trail off as the server places another tray on the table – this one covered in various colorful side dishes that he’s definitely never had before. He wouldn’t exactly describe himself as adventurous when it comes to trying new foods – for the most part, he lives off of ham and cheese sandwiches and frozen TV dinners. But he tried shawarma when he’d first arrived in this universe and ended up loving it, so he’s determined to try a bite of everything on this table.
“Sounds like it’s a good thing that you ran into me, then,” Logan murmurs when the server walks off.
You take your eyes off of the pieces of meat that you’re paying careful attention not to overcook, looking up at him through your lashes with a soft smile.
“I'd say that you’re right about that.”
••••••
Despite the breeze and the chilly night air, Logan feels perfectly toasty on the walk back to the apartment thanks to your tight hold on his arm and the wine that you had insisted that he try.
He'd learned a lot tonight – a lot about you; your hobbies and your interests. He’d learned all about Korean barbecue, and that he likes bulgogi and buldak.
Most importantly, he'd learned that he was stupid for ever being nervous about asking you out.
He feels at ease with you. He already knew he enjoys your company from all of the times that you’ve joined Wade’s movie nights and get-togethers – but he’d never been alone with you (with the exception of getting stuck in the elevator with you last week). Wade, Vanessa, Al, Peter, Yukio, and countless others always seemed to be present, making it near impossible for him to get to know you in the way that he’s wanted to since he first met you.
But now, with your arm intertwined with his and the scent of your perfume hitting him each time there is a gust of air, he knows that he is going to do all that he can to keep having moments like this with you.
“I have a question,” you state as the two of you turn onto the street where your apartment building is. Logan glances down at you in curiosity, but you’re not looking at him – you’re looking ahead, your teeth biting into your lower lip.
“What’s that?” Logan murmurs.
You hesitate, your eyes flickering up to him before quickly looking away again. “Did you actually like the kimchi?”
Logan can’t help but cackle, taken off guard by the question.
“That’s your question?” he laughs, thinking back to the spicy and tangy flavor of the fermented vegetables.
You come to a stop next to a streetlight outside of your apartment building, pulling your arm away from his to stand just inches in front of him.
“No,” you admit with a smirk. “Though I am curious about that, too.” You take a step closer to him, your chest ever so slightly brushing against his. He feels his breath catch in his throat at the way that your eyes twinkle in the glow of the streetlight.
“Last week, when we got stuck in the elevator together,” you begin in a low voice. He swears that your eyes flicker to his lips for a split second before meeting his gaze once more. “Were you nervous?”
He thinks back to his nervous rambling in the elevator, to how you looked so pretty that he found it difficult to hold direct eye contact with you, and to how it felt like half of his brain was screaming at him to ask you out and the other half was screaming at him to not make himself look like an idiot.
Yeah, nervous is accurate.
“That obvious, huh?” he sighs.
“Just a little,” you shrug. “But don’t worry. I was too.”
“Is that right?” Logan asks, trying not to give away just how happy the confession makes him. “And what about now?”
He doesn’t have to ask – he's standing close enough to you that your increased heartrate is easy for him to detect.
“Something like that,” you whisper, and before he fully process what’s happening, you’re raising up on your tippy toes to capture his lips in yours.
The taste of the fruity wine from dinner still lingers on your lips. He places his hands on the small of your back, pulling you flush against him. Your hands cradle his face, pulling him down closer to you. The warmth of you is a balm against the brisk night air, making him feel like he can’t get close enough to you. You don’t pull away until you’re breathless, looking up at him with dilated pupils in the florescent street lighting.
It isn’t until he pulls away for air and opens his eyes that he realizes the elevator has come to a stop. It couldn’t have been moving for more than ten seconds –
“Fuckin’ hell,” you groan. “Not this again.”
Logan looks at the panel of buttons to his left. Sure enough, the number reads that you’re still a floor beneath your apartments. He beats his fist against the elevator wall, as if that’s actually going to help the matter.
Still pinned between his body and the wall, you pull your cell phone out from an interior pocket of your coat. You quickly find the number for building maintenance in your call history, but it just rings, and rings, and rings.
“I could probably pry the doors open,” Logan muses as he begins to pull away from you. He thinks back to how it took maintenance nearly an hour to get the elevator back up and running last week, and knows that he wouldn’t have the patience for that now. The thought of having to wait even a fraction of that long to get back to your apartment…
“Let’s not do anything that could potentially put the elevator out of commission permanently, yeah?” You pull him back to you, grabbing his face in your hand and making him look at you. “I think that we'll be just fine right here for a while.”
He nods, his mouth suddenly feeling too dry to speak. He helps you shimmy his boxers and jeans down enough for his cock to spring free. He glances around the elevator, double checking that there aren’t any security cameras. Considering this elevator is ancient and doesn’t even function half the time, he isn’t surprised to see that there aren’t any.
You take the base of him in your hand, languidly massaging the length as you tease his slit with your tongue. You lap up the beads of pre-cum before easing him past your lips.
The sight of you on your knees for him is enough to have him twitching in your mouth. Add in how your soft lips and tongue feel working his length, and he knows he won’t last long like this.
You bob your head around him, gagging when his head juts against the back of your throat. You pull off of him, leaving a thick rope of saliva that trails from his cock to your mouth.
He doesn’t think he’s ever seen anything prettier. He could spend hours looking at you like this.
But this isn’t how he wants to finish – in your mouth, before he’s even had a chance to make you feel good. So as much as it nearly kills him to do it, he pulls himself away from your sweet lips and yanks you back up by the tops of your arms. There’s the slightest hint of disappointment on your face, but it quickly disappears when he pushes your coat off of your shoulders and down your arms. It falls to floor, leaving you in still too many articles of clothing for Logan’s liking.
Later, he tells himself. He’ll get you naked later, in the privacy of your apartment, where there’s no risk of the elevator doors sliding open at any given moment.
For now, he settles for pushing the restrictive fabric of your skirt upwards, bunching it around your waist. He sinks to the ground in front of you, splaying his palms on your inner thighs and spreading your legs open for him. He rubs the pad of his thumb over the soft material of your panties, right over your clit. He feels shudder at the sensation, and notices the goosebumps that appear on the skin of your thighs.
He hooks his index finger through the cotton fabric, pulling it to the side. He looks up to see if there’s any kind of hesitation on your face, but you quickly pull him to your center by the back of his head, erasing any doubt. He chuckles lowly, and flattens his tongue over your slit.
His name slips through your lips, your voice strained with desperation. He loves the sound of it, and wants more than anything to hear you keep saying it. He snakes one of his hands between your thighs, and teases your hole with the tip 9t his finger. You involuntarily sink down, nudging the tip of it past your entrance.
He groans against your clit at how fucking tight you feel around his finger. God, he can’t wait to be inside you. He pumps the digit, your walls already clenching around him.
“Logan,” you moan from above him. “I’m gonna—”
“I know,” he hums against your clit. “Let go. I got you.”
Your climax washes over you with a sharp cry of his name and Logan mentally prays that the elevator walls aren’t as thin as the apartment walls.
When you go still above him, he reluctantly takes his mouth off of you and stands up. His jeans and boxers are still bunched just above his knees, his erection painfully hard and his balls full. He wipes the excess of your slick from his mouth with the back of his hand, and then begins to stroke his own length in his fist.
“Do you.. wanna wait until we get back to your..?”
“God, no,” you exhale, and pull him to you by grabbing his flannel in your fists.
His lips crash against yours as he nestles himself in between your legs, teasing your slit with the head of his cock. He coats it in your juices and eases into you slowly. You groan into his mouth and he has to try not to cum on the spot.
You’re tight, and warm, and your walls flutter around him just right. He hikes one of your thighs over his hip, deepening the angle before he pulls almost all the way out. He rocks back into you, working up to a steady pace.
The small, confined space is filled with the sound of your body meeting his and the sweet noises you make that are music to his ears. You grip around him like a velvet vice and he knows that he isn't going to last long.
“Gonna cum, honey,” he warns in a grunt next to your ear. “Ya feel too fuckin’ good.”
He feels your walls pulse around him at his words and he can tell that you're just as close as he is. A few more deep thrusts that hit your cervix just right and he’s spilling into you as you cum around him.
When he’s empty, his movements cease but he doesn’t pull out. He nuzzles his face against your throat, pressing kisses to the soft but sweat-slicked skin.
“Happy Valentine’s Day to us,” you murmur in a borderline delirious voice. He laughs, pulling back just enough to press his lips to yours.
“Mind if I still come back to your place? I know we just…” He trails off, glancing down at where he’s still tucked inside you. “But I just realized I forgot to pick up cigarettes for Al and she isn’t gonna be too happy with me.”
You roll your eyes, and playfully push him away from you so that you can tug your skirt back into place.
“I think I can find a way to be okay with that,” you smirk. “If we ever get out of this fuckin’ elevator.”
not my favorite thing i've ever written by any means, i've been feeling really unmotivated to write and have felt kinda burnt out, but i still wanted to get this out before valentine's day bc if i didn't then i never would have finished it at all, lol. so i'm sorry it's short 😭 hope you still enjoyed
reblogs/comments are always appreciated, thanks for reading!

Pulling Punches
character: Din Djarin (The Mandalorian)
prompt: "Look, I know I probably should have backed off and I apologize." "No, honestly it was kind of hot." "What?"
main masterlist • prompt masterlist
You sighed and set your hands on your hips, leaning close enough so that your muttered words could only be shared between the two of you. “Din, honestly. I’ll be fine in there.” You gestured with your head to the cantina’s threshold. “Just stay out here and watch my back. Okay?”
Din shifted his weight between his feet and flexed one of his gloved hands. The other rose to adjust his vambrace. With a heavy exhale of defeat and a swing of his helmet, he relented. “Fine.” His visor found you again. “Just—.”
“Be careful.” You huffed and gave his armored shoulder a playful punch. “I know. I can handle myself.” You turned towards the door and spoke to him over your shoulder. “I’ll be back in a few.”
With that, you strode forward. The door slid open for you, and you felt Din’s gaze lingering on your back until the closing door made it impossible for him to see you any longer.
You rolled your eyes. Honestly, for a man who had yet to even mention the idea of being with you romantically, he was so unnecessarily protective.
The cantina on this world was crowded that night, practically shoulder-to-shoulder as you wove your way towards the actual bar. You were soon close enough to spot the familiar blue skin of the Twi’lek bartender, and after raising your hand and keeping your eye on them, you caught their attention. The Twi’lek woman smiled and waved you forward.
“Sorry.” You smiled sheepishly as you stepped up to greet the bartender. “I know I’m a bit late.”
The Twi’lek raised an unimpressed brow, despite the glint of fondness in her gaze. “‘A bit’? It was two full rotations.”
You shrugged. “Kark happens.” You subtly scanned your surroundings and lowered your voice. “Do you still have it?”
The Twi’lek hummed a positive note as she finished pouring a drink. “It’s in the back.” She picked up the glass in her hand and nodded. “I’ll go grab it.”
Your face softened in gratitude, even as your fists tightened on top of the bar. You wouldn’t feel much better until the datacard was in your hands.
Just as you watched the blue Twi’lek disappear into a back room, the man on your left started to speak to you. “Never seen you here before.”
You huffed and cut your gaze at him. “Moved off world a few cycles ago.”
“Makes sense.” He shuffled closer to you. “I’d remember a face like yours.”
You let out a low chuckle and glanced over at him, amused. “Oh, yeah?”
The man hummed his agreement and gave you an obvious once-over. “What brings you back here?”
You offered him a shrug. “Just visiting an old friend.” You gestured with your head to where the bartender had gone.
“Well…” The man’s hand slid closer to yours on the bar top. “I’m glad you did.”
Your eyes narrowed as you looked him straight in the eye. “I’m not staying long.”
His brow rose slowly. “I won’t need long.”
You frowned and pulled your hand closer to yourself. “Okay, then let me make myself clear: I don’t want whatever you’re trying to offer me.”
The man chuckled. “Playing hard to get? Really?”
You crossed your arms, but kept your hands pulled tight into fists, ready to punch if you had to. “I’m not ‘playing’ at all.”
The man lifted his hand as if he was about to set it on your shoulder. “Then let me help you—.”
Whatever else he was saying was lost in the shuffle of someone stepping in between the two of you so quickly that you nearly jumped into the person on your right. The flash of silver was all you needed to see to identify who it was that had grabbed the man’s wrist so hard that you audibly heard it crack.
The man gasped in both pain and surprise, but Din didn’t release his wrist, not even as he spoke. “Lay a single hand on them, and I’ll cut it off.”
The man sputtered before he tried to snatch his wrist away from Din. “Alright, alright! Relax.”
“This is me relaxed.” Din still didn’t relinquish his grip. “You don’t want to see me when I’m not. Do I make myself clear?”
The man huffed indignantly. “Yeah, yeah! Whatever. Just let me go!”
You observed the attention you were suddenly getting and sighed. You pinched the bridge of your nose and closed your eyes. “Let him go, Din.”
Din hesitated, but you soon heard movement as he dropped the man’s hand. You reopened your eyes to see the man cradling his bruising wrist and glaring between both you and Din. His words were directed towards you when he spoke again. “You could at least fight your own battles.”
You were ready to do exactly that, but Din beat you to it. He slammed his elbow into the back of the man’s head, forcing his front half to fold over the bar top, and then punched the man’s gut to make him fall back a few steps. Din’s final hit was an uppercut that had the man knocked out in seconds.
The man hit the floor, and the cantina froze for a single moment in time as Din flexed both his hands and spoke to the limp body underneath him. “They don’t have to.”
You should’ve been mortified by his actions, and part of you was, but mostly… you were hit with a rush of warmth that brought a fond smile to your lips. Din was always protective, sure, but this was something different. This was a fight to protect your honor.
Like he had said, a battle you could have fought on your own, but you didn’t have to, because he wanted to do it for you.
Din then shook his helmet as if pulling himself out of a trance and turned around to face you. He took a step closer, as if he was about to start speaking, but your attention was pulled away by the bartender returning.
“Here.” The Twi’lek woman handed you the datacard, and you thanked her quietly. Her gaze fell to the man on the floor, and her brow raised as she let out a relived exhale. “Oh, finally. Someone took care of that guy.”
You frowned in confusion. “What?”
The bartender nodded at the body. “Guy’s been harassing our patrons for weeks.”
“Oh.” You looked down at the man and kicked his limp foot with your boot. “Good riddance.”
The Twi’lek huffed in agreement and only briefly looked between you and Din. She smiled and nodded towards the door. “Be safe out there.”
“And you be safe in here.”
With those words and a small smile of your own, you turned towards the door and started making your way out. It was admittedly easier, though, with Din at your side, as he had no trouble pushing people out of the way for both of you.
As soon as you were making your way back to the ship, Din began to speak. “Look.”
He let out a soft breath as his visor glanced over at you.
“I know I probably should have backed off.” He looked down at the fist he’d punched with and flexed it. “I apologize.”
You hummed, pretending to consider his apology. “No. Honestly…” You shrugged. “It was kind of hot.”
Din’s helmet whipped towards you so fast that you’re surprised he didn’t actually trip a step. “What?”
You laughed, shaking your head as you bumped your side against his. “I’m being serious!”
Din’s helmet tilted at you. “But you’re laughing.”
“Because it’s funny.”
Din sighed. “What’s funny?”
You nodded at him. “You being so shocked that I find you attractive.”
Din stiffened in clear embarrassment as he focused on the way ahead. “Are we really doing this here?”
You pretended to be disappointed. “So, you’re saying you didn’t do what you did because you find me attractive?”
Din’s helmet turned towards you again. “I never said that.”
Your teasing smile was impossible to fight. “Then you do think I’m attractive?”
Din suddenly stopped in his tracks, letting out an exhale heavy enough to make you hold back a laugh. He took you by the arm and pulled you aside to keep you out of the way as he responded.
“Clearly. How many more people do I have to punch to make that obvious?”
You blinked at him before you burst out laughing again. "Din, there has to be a better way for you to tell me how you feel."
Din shrugged. "I was raised a fighter."
You raised an eyebrow at him. "Not a lover?"
"Jury's still out."
You snorted in amusement. Din, however, was quick to shift gears, his hand lowering from your arm to your back as his visor gave your surroundings a cautious glance.
"Now, can I please get you back to the ship safely, and then we can discuss this more properly?" He tilted his helmet at you. "Or, in your case, laugh about it."
You gave your eyes a playful roll, though the smile on your lips told a different story. "Fine." You nodded towards the way ahead. "Just try not to punch anyone else."
Din huffed and gave your back a gentle tap. "No promises."
Given what additional insight you had now regarding Din's motivations, you found your smile widening as you stayed close to his side, at last fully grateful to be within his protective reach.

Summary: Penelope drags you to a bar to meet one Spencer Reid, insisting he's 'just your type.' (She was right.)
Genre: Fluff fluff fluff!!!!
CW: Reader acts a little overstimulated and socially anxious, reader wears glasses, very awkward!reader (to match spencer's freak), early seasons spencer reid because he's my baby, reader is very insecure, reader has an inner monologue, ooey gooey mushy cheesy fluff
Word Count: 1,065
A/N: Hello again!! I'm kind of proud of this one, I think it's pretty cute. I'm thinking of making a part two where you guys go on a nice little date, lemme know if you'd read it!!!
“These heels are fucking stupid.” I groan to Penny.
“At least they look super hot.” Penny shrugged, trying to make me feel better.
“Yeah, not on me.” I groan again, stumbling a little.
“Oh don’t give me that.” I nod right away, waving off her comment.
“Right right, sorry.” Penny had told me I need to stop being so negative about myself. Clearly, I wasn’t doing very well.
“I’m so used to flats, how does any woman manage this?! Jesus Christ!” Penny just laughed.
“We’re almost there, sugar, just take it easy.” We rounded a corner and the bar came into view. We walked up the sidewalk towards the door.
“Remind me why I let you convince me into doing this?” She offered me a hand when my ankle bent a little.
“Hot nerd, remember?”
“Right, right. Spencer’s his name?” I ask.
“Yup! You’re gonna love him, everyone does.” She opens the door and we walk in, the loud music reaching my ears within seconds. I can somehow smell every single person’s drink at once. The music is already starting to get on my nerves. This guy better be as hot as Penny insists he is.
“Please tell me he’s here already. I don’t know how long I’ll be able to stand the smell in this place.” My face sours.
“Yeah, yeah! He said he’s somewhere at the bar with Derek!” She looked at me with sympathy. “I promise everything will be alright, I’ll drive you home whenever you’re ready to go.” She smiles and grabs my hand gently.
“Thanks, Pen.” I smile back and let her lead me to the bar. I look down as a bit of hair gets stuck in my lip gloss. I sputter, trying to pull it away. Right when I look up I’m face to face with the infamous Spencer Reid. I notice Penny’s hand is no longer holding my own but I can’t look away from his gaze to find her.
“Hey.” His cheeks are dusted pink, and he offers me an awkward smile. All the words I could possibly say back get caught in my throat. My face is impossibly hot and I can feel every single part of my body practically light on fire. Penny was right…He is insanely hot. I push my glasses up on my face and shake my head.
“Hi, sorry!” I giggle nervously, already embarrassed with myself. “I’m Y/N.”
“Spencer.” He replies. His voice is soft and quiet, like he’s telling me a secret.
“So, Derek and I are gonna go get our groove on!” Penny’s voice pulls me out of my thoughts. I look over at her as does Spencer. “You two lovebirds have fun!” She squeals before dragging Derek off to the dance floor. I stare at them as they walk off, feeling almost betrayed that she would leave me to fend for myself like this.
“Did she drag you here too?” Spencer’s voice pulls me back in. I look over and his eyes are already locked on my own.
“Yeah, she did.” I laugh. “I mean, I can’t say she had to force me. I was looking forward to meeting you. She did have to force me to put on these devil heels though.” I scowl down at my feet. Spencer lets out a breathy chuckle. I look back up at him with a wide smile.
“She did have to force me. I’m not really good with social interactions. But I’m glad I caved and came anyway.” He looked down at his hands, smiling.
“She talked you up a lot, she really wanted me to come tonight.”
“She talked you up too.” He nodded to himself.
“Oh god, what’d she say about me?” I cringe, remembering all the horrible things she knows about me.
“She said you were sweet, and funny. She also may or may not have used the term, ‘smoking hot,’ when referring to you as well.” Spencer huffed out a short laugh, still staring at his hands.
“Oh geez.” I rub a hand over my forehead. “She always makes me sound way better than I actually am.” Spencer finally looks at me again, his smile suddenly gone.
“What do you mean?” His eyebrows furrowed. I worry I upset him somehow.
“Well-” I take a big gulp. “I just mean that she always says I’m ‘super hot’ and makes me sound like some kind of super model, but I’m very far from it.” My reply is met with silence. Great, you already scared him off with your self-deprecation. Can you be normal for even a second?!
“Honestly, how she described you wasn’t correct at all.” Spencer pauses. And this is the part where he admits that he thought I’d be much hotter than I am. “She said you were ‘smoking hot,’ but I’d say you’re much more…’a goddess who walks the earth.’” He thinks for a second before laughing. “God, that was so cheesy wasn’t it?” He brings a hand up to cover his face. I’m beyond stunned. I can’t even bring myself to move a muscle. I can’t even make my fingers so much as twitch. Spencer’s smile fades and his face is still covered by his hand. I start to realize he probably thinks he’s ruined this, just as I did a couple seconds ago.
“I don’t think anyone’s ever said something that kind about me.” Spencer moves his hand and meets my gaze. His face is just as red as mine feels. “Guys always tell me I’m hot or…Something along those lines. But no one has ever said something so…” I pause. “I don’t even have a word for it. I feel like I’m about to burst into tears like a fuckin’ idiot. That was the sweetest thing I have ever heard.” My eyes are watery as I stare up at him. He’s so different. Spencer’s smile returns and his eyes practically fucking sparkle.
“I’m surprised no one’s ever said something like that to you before. Were all the people you met blind perhaps?” I burst out in a fit of giggles. Spencer watches me laugh with the most dopey smile on his face.
“Apparently they might have been.” I laugh. I take a deep breath. “You know…How Penny described you wasn’t quite correct either.” His face falters.
“Am I better or worse than she described?”
“Better.” I respond without missing a beat. “So much better.” I sigh dreamily.

Just recently came across your blog and saw requests were open again! I especially love the Sonic fics in the movieverse.
I’ve seen scenarios where there was a teen!Wachowski and is essentially a sibling to them. I thought it would be cute for something like Sonic, Knuckles, and maybe even Shadow (he’d have joined the family, obviously) acting protective brothers over their human sibling since they’re not nearly as strong or durable. Any scenario would do, though I can’t help but think of if it involved dating someone and they would react like: are they cool enough? Are they strong enough? Are they working for G.U.N.???
Anywho, if you get to this, I would like to see how you write it out. Thanks!
Omg yes I was thinking about something like this and I'm all for it!
Pairings -> Sonic the Hedgehog, Kunckles the Echidna, Shadow the hedgehog x Sibling Reader (platonic)
Warnings -> None
Note -> Them being protective over their human older sibling
Genre -> Fluff
Sonic The Hedgehog
I feel like he will be the less protective one out of the three of them
He would probably ask a lot of questions though to get some information about them if you were dating someone
But in all seriousness I feel like he would help you
Since he thinks he's the most romantic guy out there
Sonics just a goof, a dork
"You have a what!?" Sonic screamed out which made you quickly cover his mouth as you shushed him
"Be quiet Sonic, Mum and Dad doesn't know yet, dad would probably freak out if I told him now" You spoke out
Sonic moved you hand as he was awe "Aww you told me before anyone else?" Sonic was so happy that you told him
"But in all seriousness, what are they like?" Sonic asked "Are they cool? Sporty? Popular?"
"Woah calm down, I will tell you everything, just don't tell the other though, I'll tell them myself soon"
"Tell me the details Sib"
Knuckles The Echidna
He would be the protective one besides Shadow
Like he doesn't want your heart to be broken by a weakling
But you reassure him that this person was really sweet and wouldn't do anything to hurt you
"A what now?" Knuckles asked, Knuckles wasn't quite familiar with the term partner so you explained it to him in a simple way
"A partner is where me and that people are together in a relationship where we love each other" You explained to him hoping he would get it
Knuckle just nodded, his face still in a frown while his arms was crossed against his chest
"Are they strong enough to protect you, If not then they are not worthy of your kindness" Knuckles huffed
You just rolled your eyes "I hope they are, but please Knuckles they are really sweet and wouldn't let anything happen to me I promise"
"Have you told the others" Knuckles asked
"I did tell Sonic, but later I will tell Shadow and hope that goes well"
"You should tell him now"
Shadow The Hedgehog
Oh boy
This was going be a long conversation with you and Shadow
Shadow was quite the grumpy and protective type
You knew he was gonna ask questions about them anyway
"Hey Shads" You greeted him while he was sitting down the comfy couch
"Hey" He gruff, as he watched the TV in front of him, "I need to tell you something"
Shadow the turned off the TV then looked at you
"Are you hurt?"
"No! no I'm not I just need to speak to you about something"
"That is?"
"I have a partner"
His ear flicked at that word, he was then processing what you just said than it finally clicked
"You mean that you are in a relationship with someone?"
You nodded "Yep" Nervously sweating
"Are they secretly working for G.U.N? Are they strong enough to protect you? What if they hurt you later in the future?"
"Woah slow down Shadow, No they don't work for G.U.N if they did then I wouldn't be with them"
Shadow stared at you then sighed
"I will be fine Shads, If anything happens I know you and the others will protect me"

"OK, Larry, you may want to sit down, this might take a while."
"So, in the beginning was the Word, they did at least get that part right in the big book. However, no-one has recorded that the word in question was 'Bugger'."
"I know, not what you expected. It probably should have been something more impressive, maybe with Richard Strauss Also Spraching the old Zarathustra, but no. The Word that was with me at the moment of creation was 'Bugger'.
"See, the thing was, I had forty-three million square miles of firmament to nail up overnight - not that there were nights yet, mind you, lucky escape on that one - and I was on the ninety-sixth floor of the scaffolding when I dropped the hammer."
"So I climb down all ninety six ladders to the Infinite Formless Void and can I find the sodding thing? Can I 'eck as like? I was seriously tempted to start ahead of schedule with the whole Let There Be Light business, except that would have all the sub-contracted processes kicking in before I was ready for them... Oh yes, I sub-contracted out some of your universe. Back at the beginning I thought I knew it all, see? I did whole universes by myself. Why get any one else in to do constellations or plumb the rain cycle in, it would just mean less profit for me, right?"
"So by the time I was thirty-five or so - oh, not years, obviously, gods don't work in anything that small other than the fiddly fine-tuning once a universe has compiled properly and is running. Where was I? Oh, yes, I almost burnt out by the time I was thirty-five. It took the almost catastrophic failure of a universe to wake me up: I forgot to input the main stellar sequencing before initialising the pumps and we had stars going supernova from old age within minutes of the Word being said. The Word on that one was 'Bang!'. I was trying to be showy to make up for the nervous breakdown I was on the verge of.
"Anyway. After that one very nearly cost me my career, I decided to slow down and take my time, get some of the newer lads to do the dull, complicated bits and focus on craftsmanship. I mean, it's not every universe that has an inhabited planet where the moon is at the exact distance necessary to occlude all but the sun's corona during an eclipse, is it? That took some working out, let me tell you...
"You all right, there, lad? You do seem to have gone a funny colour."
"Hey god?" "Yes, Larry?" "You existed before the universe, right? And supposedly always existed?" "Yes, that's true." "What was infinity like, before you made the universe?" "Ah. Not one human has asked me that before. Well, I guess it's time I tell someone about before the first 7 days."

Valentine's day with CEO! John Price x reader
Author's Note: Valentine's over here but I just wanted to share this short story and also my first John Price fic!! Let me know your thoughts about it! Not edited. It may not make sense because I just let myself flow with the idea.
P.S. I'm so sleepy right now, so mistakes to be corrected later.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~~ ~ ~~ ~ ~~ ~ ~~ ~ ~~ ~ ~~ ~ ~~ ~ ~~ ~ ~~ ~ ~~ ~
The smell of something burned invades John's nostrils, which is weird because there's no smoke or fire in the house — of course. Still, he rushes to the kitchen as soon as he closes the door.
It's a mess. Egg shells on the sink, flour sprawled on the floor, piles of bowls on the counter... His eyes stop on you. From head to toe you are a mess. Hair all over your face, your apron stained with milk, flour, oil...
His smile widens. "What happened here?"
You jump, hand in your heart as you look away from the oven. "Oh my God John!" You exhale at the sight of your partner.
He laughs. "This is a bloody mess, sweetheart."
He approaches and gives you a quick peck on your lips.
You chuckle, "I know...” Closing your eyes, you lay down on his chest, sad smile painting your face. " I wanted to surprise you with some cookies, but they burnt and so I switched and made s chocolate loaf instead but hallway through the recipe, the chocolate mix fell and so I had to do it again but realized I didn't have more chocolate, so I had to—" you start rambling.
"Sweetheart, breath." Your sweet, sexy husband places his hand on your shoulders, stopping you.
You inhale and exhale a few times, him being your guide. On the last exhale, you calmly finish your explanation.
"So I decided to make a lemon and blueberry loaf... Which is in the oven right now... Just wanted to surprise you for Valentine's."
John can't help but smile tenderly.
He couldn't spent the morning with you today, last minute meeting to close the deal with a new client took him away from you. Good thing he gave you his gift the night before...
Still, you reassured him that it didn't matter— you don't need this day in specific to show how much you love each other. You know his work can be demanding, but good thing he is the boss, oh that has its perks.
While he was out, you decided to surprise him with a very domestic and simple tea time, but the the baking had other plans today and what was supposed to be done three hours ago, ended up done now, close to dinner.
"Surprise me? Baby, there's no need. You are my gift and you know that" he reassured you.
"Still." You complain.
The timer interrupts the moment, you check the oven and take out the loaf, now done—after checking with a knife to see if it was— placing it on the counter.
"Surprise?" You try to sound cheerful but fail miserably. John hugs you and kisses you deeply.
"it's perfect sweetheart. Can't wait to try it."
"it's not ready to eat, let it cool down for a few minutes," You carefully take it and put it inside the fridge before continuing. "Besides, it's almost eight, should be making dinner instead."
"None of that."
You pause, " What?"
He smirks, "You go up, take a shower and put on your pajamas, I will clean this...mess" He looks around, almost laughing. "And make ourselves tea. We can put those cheesy movies you love so much and cuddle, there's no rush for dinner. Okay?"
You nod and peck his lips two times. "I love you, I'm so lucky to have you with me. Happy Valentine's."
He smiles. "Happy Valentine's, I love you more."

(Please read <3)
hey everyone! its been a bit hasn't it...
i've still been popping in here and there and i'm honestly so glad this whole hate train fiasco has finally come to a much needed close (for the most part) and watching all of these new ask blogs flourish since then has been so insanely heart warming for me. i'm so glad to see you all doing well!
during my break i've come to terms with just how much i really needed it and feeling the weight of everything off my shoulders whether it being the overwhelming feeling of obligation to get to everyone's asks and make everyone happy really got to me in the long run more than i'd like to admit. story of a people-pleaser's life, i suppose.
it makes me so happy and honestly fucking gobsmacked to this day to be reminded that this amazing community got revived by just a weird cod obsessed freshly turned 18 year old highschooler that simply wanted to have fun and make friends with people of a like interest. crazy how life works, innit?
during this period of taking time to myself and reflecting off of what really happened i've decided not to continue this blog for the sake of myself and my own mental health. in spite of this i'm still so insanely grateful of how much love and support i have been getting even during my hiatus and for that i love you all sooo so much <33
i'm not going to completely disappear, and i certainly won't stop using tumblr (for the foreseeable future, anyways.) and i highly encourage you to have fun and interact with many of the other ghost ask blogs that came to be during my break, or just any new blogs in general that decided to join this silly little community of like-minded individuals that just want to have fun role playing their favorite characters in the cod community.
if you'd still like to interact with me, then please feel more than welcome to do so. i won't be tagging my main outright but just know if you find it, it's there for you.
most importantly, i want to thank all of the original ask blogs that derived from mine, especially after my spike in popularity that honestly shocked me as well. damn near 1k followers in a span of 2 months is baffling already as it is, especially to someone like me that didn't have much of an internet presence as it is.
and with that said, hi! i'm francis, better known as fran, and i'm the young fella behind this blog! i recently turned 18 in october and i'm finishing my final year of high school. i love my friends so so so much and honestly i wouldn't even be nearly where i am if it wasn't for them. i'm currently involved in a dual-enrollment program to get my associates degree in criminal psychology and my favorite color is red! i am a huge video game and movie geek, having rewatched the entire marvel timeline more times than i can count, as well as having a love for indie and thriller/horror elemented story games. (fnaf, tlou, mouthwashing, resident evil, silent hill, just to name a few)
this has been so much fun, and i thank you all for staying with me this long. i'm eternally grateful❤️
—this was fran, signing off with a brand new video game in hand and a good long exhale of relief.

When I lived in on-campus housing, it was in a historic building that the university absolutely never updated except where they utterly had to.
The fire alarm went off once a quarter (we were on quarters, not semesters), and it was always the first Thursday at ten in the morning. After the first one scared me fucking stupid, I set an alarm.
Anyway, over the summer one year, maintenance came to look at our sink.
"There's a leak we're trying to locate," the guy told me. "So I just need to run your sink while I radio the guy in the basement."
"Sure," I said and let him do it.
"You're not the problem," he said and left.
Several months later, we had to have the wall under the sink replaced after a repair because we ended up with a leak. This turned into several weeks of campus maintenance forgetting about the hole in our wall and having to call and email and call and email until someone finally showed up to, you know, put the fucking drywall back on.
Which led the guy to go, "Hey, sorry it took so long to put this back together."
And me, holding myself together by a very worn shoestring because my kitchen utensils and pots and pans had been on my desk for literal months, went, "Just glad it's all done, now. It's funny we had a leak, honestly because y'all came in during the summer to check, and we didn't, and then this happened."
And this dude goes, "Oh! Yeah, I remember the guys investigating that saying they found it but they didn't want to do anything about it until they moved the fire box and confirmed the leak was the problem."
"I'm sorry. What do you mean?'
"The fire alarm box shorted out because of a leak, and we were pretty sure it was because of you guys, but we couldn't be sure until we moved the fire box and rewired it."
And it hit me as he cheerfully thanked me and left that there had not been a fire alarm test the first Thursday of that quarter.
A couple of weeks ago, I saw an article that that historical building on that campus was being torn down to build new, modern housing, and when I say I cheered.
hey if people are still being weird about your perfectly normal house you can distract them by showing them this picture of *my* house where there is a live electrical wire being used as a support for the plumbing to my basement shower

Dear god
#housing regulations#imagine you're on maintenance at a university#and decide the fire alarm working is not a top priority#but these are also the people who perma-closed one of our radiators#but never told us#then acted like we were weird for complaining about the cold the next winter#so
