⭐︎ series masterlist ⭐︎ previous chapter
☀︎
Steam fogs the mirror in the bathroom, drops of water fall from your hair and down your shoulders, the smell of vanilla and lavender lingers in the room, you are rubbing moisturizer into your skin, enjoying the luxury of it all, a luxury you won’t have much longer the moment you are back on the road again. It’s impossible to find functioning showers nowadays, let alone hot running water. Something that used to be so normal, is something special now and you enjoy every second here in Hawkins, every hot shower, every good night’s sleep, every warm meal, the feeling of safety.
You put a pair of sweatpants on and a sweater to keep you warm, a pair of wool socks that Nancy knitted herself. You brush your wet hair and clip it back.
When you step out into the hallway, silence greets you. Eddie is in his room, he was complaining about a headache after you finished patrolling together after he worked on the RV all morning, you both got caught in the rain and after taking a shower to warm up, he excused himself to lie down. The door to Nancy’s bedroom is closed as well, she must be reading, she always closes the door when she does. The rainy weather allows you all to take everything a bit slower, to rest a little more than usual.
The wind howls outside, thunder striking somewhere far, red bolts of lightning curse through the sky, an image you still haven’t gotten used to.
You make your way down the stairs, it isn’t dark out yet but the grey clouds make it seem like it’s evening already, the golden light from the fireplace in the living room is very inviting in contrast to the darkness outside. You step inside and notice Steve moving around in the kitchen, taking out bowls from the cardboard. A towel is slung over his shoulder, his features are relaxed, no sign of a frown appearing on his face… yet.
You watch him for a moment, not moving away or towards him. You don’t want to disturb him or his peace. He seems to be content by himself and you know that facial expression will change the moment he notices you.
Things have been tense between you after your one and only time patrolling together. He didn’t ask you to join him in anything and you didn’t make the mistake of trailing after him again. You also didn’t make much more conversation with him and he seemed happy about it for he didn’t try either. The only interactions you both have are ‘good morning’ and ‘good night’, maybe a ‘can you pass me the salt’ or an ‘excuse me’ here and there but that’s all.
It’s been eleven days since your arrival here, and you both are still where you started. It saddens you. You tried to get to know him, and you still want to but he makes it hard to.
Maybe if things had been different, you would have gotten the chance to get to know the Steve you have seen in the pictures Nancy had shown you. The guy he once was seemed sweet and welcoming, the one before you is the opposite of it.
You know something must’ve happened to him. Maybe it’s got to do with the scars on his skin, maybe he lost someone you don’t know about, maybe it’s because of Robin but whatever it was that took away the light in his eyes has turned him into this – mistrusting and mean.
A silent sigh falls from your lips, you force your eyes away from his form and turn away, ready to make your way back up the stairs but his voice makes you halt in your tracks.
“Hey”
A lump grows in your throat, a nervous feeling settles in your chest, you swallow and take a deep breath before you turn around, facing him again.
He is looking right at you, an awkward attempt at a smile pulling at his lips.
“Hi… I uh, Nancy and Eddie are in their rooms and I didn’t want to disrupt their peace but uh I also don’t want to disrupt yours so–”
“It’s fine,” he interrupts you, not even letting you finish your sentence. “Would you like to help me?”
You blink.
Did you hear him correctly?
He presses his palms against the counter, raising his eyebrows at you, like he waits for you to say yes.
Steve notices your uncertainty, the knit between your brows, the pursed lips, the confused look in your eyes. You are pulling at your sleeves, looking a little lost, looking a little intimidated. You are not like this with Nancy and Eddie, you are comfortable with them – but not with him, and he can’t blame you for that.
“I could use a hand.”
You nod slowly, licking your lips, “yeah, I uh, sure!”
You can’t help but feel a giddiness inside of you. He never asked you to join him before, he never asked for your help.
“What do you need me to do?” You ask as you make your way over to him, standing across from him now, on the other side of the kitchen island.
“Butter for now.”
“Butter?” You tilt your head.
He hates it when you do that, every time you ask a question, every time you are confused about something, you tilt your head to the side.
“We received a ton of milk, but we have to make our own butters and cream,” he explains as he gestures to the cans of milk on the table.
“Oh…”
“Wanna give me a hand? It’s a lot of stirring.”
You nod, following him to the small, round kitchen table.
“Here,” he murmurs, gesturing to the wooden jar, “this is a butter churn.”
“This is what they look like?”
Steve nods, “yeah, what’d you think they looked like?”
You shrug, picking up the stick, “I dunno, this thing looks like something straight out of the 1500s.”
Steve snorts, “maybe it is, we found it in Miss Keller’s house, she’s basically from the 1500s with the dresses she always wore.”
You fake a gasp, bringing your hand up to your mouth, “you stole Miss Keller’s butter churn? Bad Steve.”
He rolls his eyes at you and turns away, but you see the way his lips curl upwards, even if only a little. – A small victory on your part.
“So… how do I use this thing?”
He pours some milk into the jar and takes the stick from your hands, putting inside the jar before he covers the sides with a towel so the milk doesn’t splatter over you both.
“Here, you just… do these motions,” he explains, twisting the stick from side to side as he raises it up and down slowly, “you churn it slowly, you don’t want the milk to get all over you, it may take some time until you see some progress, you just gotta be patient.”
You hum, moving a little closer to him, invading his space, you smell his shampoo, his body wash, a hint of oranges and apricot, the sweet and soft scents surprise you, most men opt for masculine scents, strong and overpowering ones. You prefer this. You like this, you like this a little more than you should. You watch the way his hands move as he shows you the motions, you focus on his voice when he gives you the instructions and then you take over when he hands you the stick before he steps away from you rather quickly.
Unbeknownst to you, he too liked the scent that lingers on your skin a little too much. The sweetness of it, the softness of your hand when it touched his own, the closeness and the heat of your body – he doesn’t like you, how could he? His body reacts to your scent, feminine and soft. It’s been a long time since he felt the touch of a woman, and you are the first to graze his skin, that’s all. He wouldn’t think anything of it, he wouldn’t react to it had there been other women around.
To his surprise you stay quiet, focused on the task before you, you don’t speak or ask any questions for a while, it’s almost odd to him, you are talkative, never missing the opportunity to open your mouth and ramble about something completely random and unimportant. Then again, things have been tense between you both. He knows it’s his fault, he also knows that it’s for the better, yet he can’t help but dislike this silence right now, he doesn’t know why.
He tries to focus on his own task, pouring milk into a pot to make cream.
The crackle of the fire, and the sound from the butter churn fill the silence between you both. A few minutes pass before you finally speak up.
“What are we using the butter for?” You ask, feeling the soreness in your wrist already.
“For the meat. I use it to make it tender. The meats are not as good now that the cows are not properly cared for. They’re just cows from the wild and the few from the barn here.”
“Oh, so they don’t get all the needed supplements and stuff?”
“Exactly,” Steve nods, reaching for a spatula, he starts stirring the milk, “I mean, we do our best but you know…”
You look over at him, surprised to find him looking back at you already, you didn’t realize his eyes were on you. You nod your head slowly, not moving your eyes away from his, you don’t break the contact just yet, looking into his hazel eyes that are always blazing with anger or annoyance, right now it’s neither of those emotions, it’s something else, something you can’t read, something you can’t make out, something you haven’t seen in his eyes yet, a look yet to be unlocked.
He blinks, shaking his head, he furrows his eyebrows and looks down at your hand, “how does it look?”
You breathe out and force your eyes away from his as well, you stop your movements and lift the towel off the jar, “uh, I think it’s solid now.”
“Great, now pour it into the bowl,” he gestures to the bowl with the cheesecloth inside.
You fall quiet again and follow his instructions, his voice fills the space between you as he gives you a step by step on what to do but when you’re as good as done, the silence between you is almost deafening, almost awkward, especially to him, the need to fill it is so strong.
He swore to himself that he wouldn’t talk to you if not necessary, that he wouldn’t ask questions. He doesn’t want to know anything about you, he doesn’t need that in his life, but this moment right now is killing him. He is done cooking the cream, and he is now working on making dinner, cutting vegetables. He tries to distract himself with that but to no avail.
He glances at you. It’s dark out now, the only source of light coming from the fireplace and all the candles set up because he likes to save up on electricity by keeping the lights off. The golden light touches your skin so softly, your hair shining from it, the smell of your body wash lingers in the room. You look relaxed, you look content despite being here with him. The sweater you are wearing is too big and it slipped down your shoulder from all the movements, exposing the scar that has formed on your shoulder. It was fresh when you came here, and he never found out how you got it.
He clears his throat, swallowing the lump that grew from nervousness, he speaks your name, which it’s almost foreign on his tongue.
You look up at him, “yeah..?”
“What uh,” he pauses, scratching the back of his neck awkwardly before he points to your shoulder, “what happened?”
You need a moment to follow what he is pointing at. You are surprised, almost taken aback to hear a question coming from him, a question directed at you. Slowly, you look down, only now noticing that your sweater slipped. You put down the paddle that you used to form the butter and pull your sweater back up.
“Uh… I fell onto broken glass when a sick person snuck up on me.” You explain, scrunching your nose, “I was distracted, I never am usually but I was hungry and looking for food and I found something I’ve been looking for, for months!”
“Oh,” Steve mumbles and looks down. “What was it?”
“...Kit Kat’s.”
Steve raises his eyebrows at you, lip curling up a bit, “you almost got yourself killed because of Kit Kat’s?”
You shrug at him, “they’ve always been my favorite! And I haven’t had any since the day the world went to shit!”
He chuckles a bit but he doesn’t comment on it further, just looking back down, giving you the opportunity to look at him closer, at the scar around his neck, you never asked how he got it, you didn’t want to make him uncomfortable.
He looks up to find you staring at his neck. He knows you are curious, you have been from the start, he always caught you staring at it.
“I was dragged by a demo– a bat.”
He sees the way your eyes widen, how surprised you are by his explanation, “huh?”
He points to his neck, “it choked me, leaving a mark, while two others bit my flesh off.”
Steve used to cringe every moment he spent thinking of that night, of when they dragged him across the floor, leaving marks on his skin. He used to have nightmares of it, until those nightmares were replaced by new pictures, worse ones.
You nod slowly, looking him up and down, there are no other visible marks for you to see, except for the one on his neck.
“Where?”
He sighs, not wanting to look into your eyes, not wanting to see the sadness flashing in them. He looks back down at the carrot he was cutting, picking the knife back up again, he continues.
“My abdomen, my sides… but Eddie had it worse.”
You quickly realize what he is doing, steering the topic away from him again, thinking he doesn’t deserve sympathy for what he went through.
You have seen the scars on Eddie’s skin, the deep and gnarly marks, he briefly told you what had happened but you never pushed the subject, you never tried to find out more.
“You mean the scar on his lip…?”
Steve nods, “his chest, abdomen, arms, legs… They’re all scarred. They bit off chunks of flesh.” He says, his voice sad, almost haunted.
Your shoulders drop, the look on your face too, sadness flushes through you and you look down at the table, at nothing in particular.
You can’t imagine how it happened, the pain he was in, the fear that took home in all of them when Eddie was bleeding out and fighting for his life.
Steve turns around when he registers your silence. He sees the worried, sad look on your face, how your lips curl downwards and your shoulders are dropped.
“But we’re okay now, he is healthy as you can see… and annoying.”
At that, you smile a little, lifting your head back up to look at him, “yeah, but he’s adorable.”
Steve draws back a little, raising an eyebrow at you, “you crushing on Munson or something?”
Your eyes widen and you flush all over, shaking your head quickly that your hair falls out of your clip.
“What, no! Ew! He reminds me of my brother! People that are just like my brother ain’t my type!” You scoff, shuddering a little. You pick up the paddle again and continue forming the butter into the shape you want to have it.
Steve can’t help but smile, amused by the look on your face. He gets a little curious though.
“... And what is your type?”
You hum, taking a moment to answer his question.
He doesn’t look away from you just yet, he watches you.
“Mmm… As long as he makes me smile when I need it the most… that’s all I need.”
Steve nods at your words, humming.
You look up at him, surprised to see him still watching you.
“What about you? What’s your type, cowboy?”
He flushes a little, cheeks warming under your eyes. He hasn’t talked about women in years, and hasn't thought about this either.
He shakes his head, lifting his shoulders up and down, “I uh… I honestly have no idea.”
He is not the guy he used to be, the one who was flirting freely and taking out one girl after the other – even that guy didn’t know his type. He was searching for something in every girl, and he never found it.
“Oh come on!” You scoff, looking at him in disbelief, “what type of women did you go out with?”
He shrugs, “I don’t know, they were always… stereotypical girls that always talked about the latest trends and stuff.”
You snort, rolling your eyes as you look down.
“Ah right… Prom King. I can guess which type of women you’re into–”
He quickly shakes his head at you, “no… no… I went out with them to have fun, it was just physical. Those girls weren’t my type.”
You frown at his words and sigh.
For some reason your reaction makes him think that you’re done with this conversation, but then you look back up and turn towards him completely.
“Okay… then, when you’re with a woman, what is attractive to you?”
“... Real answer?”
“Sure…” You murmur.
A smirk tugs at his lip when he notices how flustered you are getting when his eyes move up and down.
You notice how he stops at your chest in particular and you can’t help but groan and shake your head in disappointment.
“Booo…”
“No!” Steve raises his hands up in surrender, chuckling.
“I was gonna say eyes.”
You roll your eyes, snorting, “right… I didn’t mean physically, Steve. I meant what is attractive to you when you’re on a date with them? What do they do that is attractive to you?”
Your words wipe the small smile off his face again, and he stands there in silence, getting lost in his thoughts, getting lost in the past, reliving every date, every moment that should have excited him but didn’t. He realizes that there was not a single date that is worth remembering, not a single girl who made him smile genuinely. Sure, he had fun the moment he was in pleasure but that’s all, the girls were attractive physically but emotionally? They all sucked, none of them cared about him, all they wanted was a piece of King Steve.
And even when he thought he found something genuine, someone to love him, someone to care for him, it turned out to be a show, it was just as genuine as the interest all those girls had in him. It was all a lie.
There is no love in him for her anymore, no feelings, no desires, nothing. But those words still hurt and sometimes they still haunt him because he believes it. Those words echo in his head, just like all the other hateful things others have thrown at him. But one in particular remains,
‘Bullshit’
“I… I don’t know…” He whispers, letting his facade fall for only a moment. “I guess someone who doesn’t see me as a failure.”
You are taken aback by his words, a weird feeling settling in your chest at the confession.
When Steve realizes what he said, when he notices the look in your face, when he notices his mistake, he immediately draws back.
“W-What… Failure, why?”
He shakes his head, turning his back to you again, “doesn’t matter, um… the butter should be done, wanna give me a hand cutting the potatoes?”
You hesitate, staring at the back of his head. You want to know more, you want to know why he said that, you want to know why he feels like this, who made him feel like this.
A sigh falls from your lips, loud enough for him to hear.
“Sure…”
You leave it alone, not wanting to risk getting on his bad side again, you bite your tongue and do as he asked. You clean up the kitchen table before you walk over to him, getting your own cutting board, and you start peeling the potatoes.
You work in silence for a while, just like before, but this one isn’t as uncomfortable, even though his words still echo in your head and you wonder about his past. You don’t want him to close up on you again, not when he just started to open up, so you don’t press the subject further.
It’s too silent though and you can barely handle it. You let go of the peeler before you started peeling the potatoes, taking Steve aback, his eyes already glaring at you as you turned and walked away.
“Really? You don’t want to peel potatoes?”
“It’s too quiet!” You leave the kitchen, leaving Steve stunned as he looks back at the door. It was quiet but he didn’t think you were going to have a breakdown because of it. He doesn’t know you and that is being a little obvious by now. Maybe you don’t do good with silence and he just doesn't know that side of you. If he knew, maybe he could have talked about something else, or try.
But not two seconds later, he starts hearing the radio turning and then static. He doesn’t remember when was the last time they turned on that radio. He can hear you changing the channels of it, the static growing and lowering, and he wonders if you're crazy. There is no music being played. Who would operate a radio station in the middle of the apocalypse–
His eyes widen when he starts hearing ‘Hound dog’ by Elvis Presley. It is static, yet it is still there. There is music. Somewhere in Indiana, someone is operating a radio station. Someone is trying to keep people in a good mood despite it all. He never knew. Nancy never knew. Eddie never tried. The three of them thought that the only music they could have was Eddie’s guitar.
He hears you humming to it, walking back into the kitchen and placing the small radio on the far corner so you two can have the music to yourselves. He is still staring at the radio, completely stunned, his eyes wide. You turn to look at him when you grab the peeler, noticing the look of surprise.
“Why do you look so stunned?”
“I– I didn’t know they played music…” Your eyes went to look at it and you smiled, nodding at him.
“Yeah, I had one back at camp too… Did you know radio signals can travel from 50 to 60 miles away? Some AM stations up to 100 miles!” He is still surprised there is music, yet you are talking away facts to him about radio signals. But that actually caught his attention. There are others, not an hour away from him. It has to be the WSQK watts station. It has to be.
“There’s… a radio station near… like thirty or forty minutes away from here…” You turn to him, surprised as well now.
“Really? Well… there’s people operating there… Probably also sending out news and messages to people.” Your attention turns back to the potatoes, starting to peel away, leaving the peeled skin scraps in a mountain on the counter.
“That’s… good to know.” It actually is good to know. They thought that the only radio signal they could ever get for news was Mr. Clarke’s transmitter that is in the library. That’s how they got contacted by Hopper when the others arrived in California, and now he is finding out that maybe some radio stations are still transmitting. They are probably using some kind of solar panel to make energy because–
“This potato has a worm.” He snaps out of his thoughts immediately at your words, frowning as he looks down at it.
“There’s no worm there.” You slowly look up at him with a cheeky smile, only to look back down, leaving that peeled potato aside to grab another.
“You were thinking too much. Just enjoy the music, you can think later.” You reply and he blinks for a few seconds as the song keeps playing. He looks back down to his carrots, grabbing the knife he left on the side to keep cutting. The minutes pass, the songs changing, songs he knows. Songs that remind him of when the world didn’t simply go to shit.
And there’s some kind of comfort in that.
“Did you know Marvin Gaye was shot by his own father?” You have been spitting facts and news to him that he either knew or never knew, and he didn’t notice he found himself talking back at you, even giving a fact or two of his own.
“I did, that was crazy as shit.” The song ‘Sexual Feeling’ was playing, that’s why you started talking about that with him. Each song that passed, you said something about it. You were stirring the vegetables in the boiling water while he sauted the meat in the pan, with the butter you made. He threw some rosemary in it too, for extra flavour.
One other thing he didn’t notice was that he had been humming along all this time.
He had two pans where he was cooking four pieces of meat, while you worked on making sure the vegetables were properly boiled. You had added some garlic in the pot because you claimed it’s good for the overall health. He almost chuckled at that because it was just because garlic is delicious. There was no need to put garlic on boiled vegetables.
You two didn’t even notice that even in the silence of conversation, where just the music played, there was no more awkwardness. There was no tension. There was nothing that could make you think he didn’t like you anymore.
“Is that Marvin Gaye?” The sound of Nancy’s voice makes the two of you turn around, and she is surprised to see you working together. It’s been days since you two last had a proper conversation, and– “Wait… music?”
“Yeah. She kind of discovered it. Nance, we didn’t know the radio station was still functioning, for a whole year.” Steve’s voice makes you feel proud, knowing you helped and that he was actually surprised by your discovery. Nancy blinks a few times, not believing her ears.
“Wait, so it means we can use that to receive news…” Steve’s eyebrows meet in the middle for a second, only to then nod slightly.
“I bet they’re not different from the news we get from the transmitter in the library, Nance.” His head turns back to the meat, while you grab four plates, stacking them next to him. “Thanks.”
You try to tone down your giddiness, not wanting to show him you are really happy he is being civil and friendly with you, “No problem.”
Nancy’s eyes travel back and forth with the two of you, wondering what had changed, but it is better not to ask. Seeing Steve putting steak on each plate while you grab a colander from the cupboards below the sink. You are about to grab the pot yourself, grabbing kitchen clothes to not burn yourself on the handles, but Steve grabs them from you.
“Let me.” You see how he grabs the pot, not letting you do it, not letting you carry the heavy weight yourself.
“Um–” You don’t know how to react or say, kind of confused at his action, but you don’t dislike how much of a gentleman that move was. Nancy hums a bit to herself, clearing her throat before yelling out.
“Eddie! Food’s ready!” Your head turns to look at her, and you snap from your thoughts, not noticing you had been looking at his arms as they strained a bit when pouring the water into the colander. You quickly move to the cupboards to start setting up the table with Nancy as Eddie walks down the stairs.
“Oh, shit, we eating Steve’s delicious steaks?” Steve rolls his eyes but he’s proud of his cooking. It’s one of those things he knew he was good at, and he never received any complaints.
“Just set the table up, Munson.” He replies and Eddie immediately moves to grab the water out of the fridge and set it on the table. You go back to the counter, next to Steve, and grab a big scooping spoon. Steve hands you one plate, with a steak on it, and you just add some boiled vegetables on it before placing it in front of Nancy as she sits down.
Once you are all seated, Eddie doesn’t even wait a second before he shoves a piece of meat into his mouth, moaning as if he’s in a porn movie, making the other three of you cringe.
“Do you have to do that everytime you eat his steak?” Nancy asks as she cuts herself a little piece, Eddie turning to look at her, with his mouth full.
“Its’ ‘fee biss’ stek’ i’ve evur’ haf.” You snort into your water at the nonsense he just mumbled because of his mouth full of food. Steve holds in a chuckle as he grimaces in disgust.
“Can you chew and swallow before you talk?” And Eddie glares at him only for his eyes to widen up as he looks around, a frown in his eyebrows. He chews quickly, swallowing where he almost choked.
“Is that– ‘Take on me’? Is that fucking music!?” Nancy snorts as you all realize that Eddie hadn’t even noticed the music playing because he was more focused on Steve’s steaks.
You explain that you have found a few channels over the months every time you come across a radio somewhere, though none of them have played metal music.
“Maybe you gotta do the heavy metal channel,” you shrug.
“Huh, you know what? Maybe I will, once I figure out how to, I fucking will,” he nods happily before he takes another bite of his steak.
Steve chuckles a little to himself, though he keeps his eyes trained on the plate before him. Nancy and Eddie share a look of surprise, it’s been a while since they saw him so… relaxed.
For the first time in a while, he joins in on the small talk during dinner, commenting and nodding along to the things you talk about. A sparkle of hope is inside of both Nancy and Eddie, hope that maybe there is still something left in him wanting to try, wanting to live, wanting to fight for something better.
Maybe he is ready to leave now, maybe he is learning how to let go.
Eddie wastes no time in wanting to find out, because the moment you are all done eating and he pushes the empty plate away from him, leaning back, he stuffs his hand into the pocket of his jeans, fishing something out.
You all watch curiously.
Eddie flashes you a smile when you lean closer, trying to peek over the table. He lifts his arm up and throws something over to Steve, the unmistakable sound of jingling keys passing by you, a flash over silver before your eyes before it lands in Steve’s hand.
Steve looks down, feeling the metal in his palm, his fingers are closed around it. He doesn’t need to look to know what it is, the happiness in Eddie’s eyes and the dreadful feeling in his stomach tells him exactly what it is.
With furrowed eyebrows, he stares at nothing in particular.
“What is it!?” Nancy asks, impatiently.
Eddie looks at the both of you, unable to contain the smile on his face as he starts jumping up and down on his chair.
“I finished it,” he explains proudly, though neither of you understand what he means by that as you both give him questioning looks, to which he sighs. “The RV! It’s up and running! We can finally get out of here!”
“Seriously?” Nancy nearly squeals, her eyes lighting up at his words, she nearly jumps from her chair, almost knocking it over.
You know that she’s been waiting for this, waiting to be reunited with her family again.
“Yeah! We’re going to California, baby!” Eddie exclaims, reaching for her hand and giving it a squeeze. “So you better start packing your bags.”
You smile, sharing their relief as well. You've been waiting for it too, waiting to finally see your family again, though in this moment, you fear looking over at Steve, knowing how he feels about leaving Hawkins. You still turn your head, daring to take a glance and you find exactly what you thought you would.
His features are no longer relaxed, his lips are no longer curled into a smile, his eyes aren’t soft like they were before. A mixture of sadness and anger lingers in them, and when he looks at you, meeting your eyes, you feel a shudder running down your spine, he no longer is the one from before, the one that laughed with you, the one that talked with you like you were his… friend.
He clenches his jaw and he turns away again, throwing the keys back to Eddie who catches them with one hand, the smile falling from his lips when he finally notices the frown on Steve’s face.
You all flinch a little when the chair scrapes against the hardwood floor and the brunette picks his plate up angrily before walking over to the kitchen.
Nancy’s smile falls and her shoulders slump, helplessly she looks at Eddie.
“Dude, you know we can’t stay here,” Eddie states carefully, with a soft and gentle voice. “We’re gonna run out of everything someday, you can’t prevent–”
“We won’t run out if we go hunting,” Steve grumbles.
“There’s nothing left here for us, man. We got people waiting for us–”
Suddenly, Steve turns around, with his eyes angrier than before and his cheeks burning red, “you got people waiting for you! Leave me out of this!”
Nancy frowns in disbelief, as well as Eddie who gets up from his chair as well, throwing the keys on the dining table.
“Seriously? You’re telling me that the kids aren’t waiting for you? That they haven’t been asking for you every time Dustin radio’d us and you’ve been acting like a complete asshole, refusing to speak to him – to them?”
Steve scoffs loudly, turning back around, he makes his way over to the sink.
“We’re not leaving without you, Steve,” Nancy speaks. “I’m not leaving you behind.”
“That’s rich coming from you, Nance.”
She falls silent after that, opening her mouth and closing it again, she looks a little taken aback, guilt flashes in her eyes.
Eddie only sighs, looking down with a defeated look on his face.
You don’t know what his words mean, you don’t know why she gives up after that. Many questions run through your head but you mostly wonder what he meant by that.
“Steve,” Eddie tries again and you can hear the desperation in his voice, you can see the sadness in his face, he doesn’t want to leave his friend behind but he doesn’t want to stay here either, he never wanted to, least of all now. “There is nothing left for us here, there is nothing left for you here, you know that, man. Robin is–”
You flinch again when he throws the plate into the sink, so hard it must’ve splattered in half. He turns around, throwing a finger at Eddie, “I told you I’m not leaving! If you wanna go, feel free to get the fuck out of here, all of you! But leave me alone!” He yells, glaring at the both of them before he storms out of the room, passing by you and out into the hallway, not bothering to grab a jacket or an umbrella before he rips open the door and leaves the house, slamming the door so harshly that you wonder if it’s still in tact or not.
Your heart is pounding in your chest, adrenaline kicking in when you notice that Eddie and Nancy aren’t moving, not planning to follow him out.
They know him better than you do, they know not to touch him now, he won’t listen, he won’t compromise, he will do more damage than anything else at this moment but you don’t know that.
Worry settles deep in your gut, the urge to go after him growing stronger each passing second. You get up and push the chair back, leaving them no time to react before you rush out of the room, quickly throwing on your old pair of sneakers, not wasting any more time to follow him out.
You hear your name being called before you slam the door shut, but you don’t bother to turn back around, you run straight into the storm, not caring about the rain you ran from earlier.
You rip open the gate and close it behind you, looking around you as you try to spot him in the darkness, you squint your eyes when lightning strikes through the sky. You see his silhouette, three houses down the road.
The rain runs down your face, soaking through your clothes already, the coldness of it clinging to your skin and making you shiver already, even as you start running after him, following him wherever he is going. You pick up the pace when he gets further and further away from you.
Worry still gnawing at you, not knowing how he will react to you following him but you can’t just let him go like this, you know that he is angry but you also know that the anger is a mask for something else. He is sad, he is broken because of things that happened to him. You may not be the person he wants him to follow, but you just can’t let him go like this.
You slow down when he rounds the corner of a house, disappearing behind the wall. The rain paddles harshly against the floor, thunder crashing through the sky. You almost slip on the muddy ground when you step into the grass, you halt in your tracks when you notice the surrounding bushes, somehow still full and alive, unlike most other things in Hawkins.
You lost him after he disappeared into the garden of whoever lives or lived in this house. The white picket fence has no gate, and you can just walk through it. You follow the footprints in the mud, feeling grateful for the lightning for once. You push your wet hair out of your face, as you inch closer and closer to where he ran off to.
You take deep breaths, trying not to shiver from the cold. Thunder makes you flinch again, though the loud crash is not what makes you halt in your tracks, nor is it the red lightning bolts in the sky that illuminate your surroundings, allowing you to see better, allowing you to take in the view before you.
For a moment, you stop breathing, you stop moving completely, you are sure that even your heart stopped beating. You can only raise your hand to your lips as your eyes widen in horror.
He is here, he is standing in this garden, only a few steps away from you. He is standing there with his head hung low, looking down at the grave before him, wilted flowers on it, a necklace dangling from the cross, a necklace that once dangled from her neck.
Robin Buckley.
The name engraved into the wooden cross, is the name you have heard so many times, the name of his best friend.
So many feelings run through your veins but mostly shock and confusion. He talked about her like she was alive, they talked about her like she was alive, there was no sign of this. You could have never guessed. Every time he left the house saying that he was gonna visit Robin, you thought he was actually seeing her, you could have never imagined that he meant visiting her grave.
Your heart breaks when the realization of it all begins to sink in, why he is the way that he is, why he doesn’t want to leave, why he is so filled with anger and rage.
You swallow the sickening lump in your throat. You don’t know what to say or do, a part of you wants to walk away and leave him be, the other wants to comfort him, and the stronger part wins.
“Steve…” You call out softly to him, your voice reaching him despite the raging storm.
He tenses up, you can see it, it takes him a moment but when he finally turns around, you realize what a mistake it was to follow him. Even through the darkness and the rain, you can see the glistening tears in his eyes, the angry ones, the scowl on his face directed at no one but you.
“I-I’m sorry…”
“Don’t!” He snaps loudly. “Don’t say anything right now!”
You press your lips together, taking deep breaths as you look at the intense emotions in his eyes, and his anger makes you cower away. Shivers run down your spine, not from the rain, but from how he looks at you.
You shake your head slowly, digging your nails into your palms. You don’t know what to do, so you just stand there and watch him. Behind the hatred in his eyes, you see pain and sadness, you see how hard he is holding onto this, you see how it is driving him crazy, how it’s ripping him apart.
“I-I didn’t know…” You say softly.
Steve can hear the sadness in your voice, the gentle tone in it, the warmth in your eyes – he can’t stand it, he doesn’t want it, he doesn’t deserve it.
“That she’s dead? You didn’t know that my best friend is dead?” Steve scoffs as he slowly starts to make his way over to you, inching closer carefully, staring at you like you are his prey that he is ready to rip apart, right here, right now. “Well, now you fucking do, she’s dead, Robin is dead just like most people are, just like you will be the moment you step out there!” He throws his hand up, pointing at nothing in particular. His voice is trembling, the rain streams down his face.
You wince at his words.
You know what’s waiting out there, you know the dangers of this world but that doesn’t stop you from finding your family, from keeping hope alive.
You understand him now, more than anything. You don’t know how you would be if you lost someone you loved so dearly but he still has people he loves, people that love him.
“I’m sorry, Steve. I really am, I’m sorry that you lost her,” you start, your own voice trembling, out of nerves and out of fear. “But she is gone, a-and you staying here won’t change it! It won’t bring her back, it won’t fix anything! I understand your pain, I really do… but– you have people who care for you, Eddie and Nancy. You have other people who are waiting for you… Dustin?” You say despite the shock that still curses through you.
You don’t know whether it’s tears running down his cheeks or if it’s just the rain, but his eyes are glassy.
“Don’t bring Henderson into this! He is alive and well and that suffices!”
“Does it really?” You ask, tilting your head to the side. “Because you look miserable most of the time, and you will end up all alone once Eddie and Nancy are gone!”
Steve takes another step closer to you, looking down at you with nothing but hatred in his eyes.
“I know you feel like your life is over but it’s not, I–”
“You’ve known me for two weeks. Two fucking weeks. I don’t care about your optimistic hopeful bullshit. When you find your parents and your brother dead, you will wish you never had it to begin with.”
You draw back, straightening your back, you stare at him, speechless and stunned. The words are caught in your throat, your chest aching more than ever.
You know he is hurt and angry, and now he is trying to hurt you back. You know that they’re alive, you know that your parents are fine, you know that your brother is well.
“They’re… they’re not–”
“You saw the world out there, open your eyes for just a second!” He snaps at you, getting closer and closer, allowing you to see him and his anger better. “You are leading my friends to their death! You are helping them leave! I-I thought you would want to stay once you realized you were safe here, that you’re all fucking safe!”
You shake your head at him, growing angry too for the things he said about your family.
“Why wouldn’t I want to leave!?”
“Cause you are literally driving into hell! There are things you haven’t encountered there!”
“I want to see my family! Nancy and Eddie too! You have family waiting for you!”
A humorless laugh falls from his lips, he brings his hand up to his face, pressing his knuckle under his nose as he closes his eyes for a moment before he opens them again, looking at you again, “family? My family is here, six feet under!” He yells, pointing at the grave. He is blinded by rage and sadness. “The one person I had in my life that cared for me like no one else had is gone! And I’m not leaving her here!”
You know there is no getting through to him, not when he is like this.
Steve would rather chase after a ghost for the rest of his life.
“Leave her here?” You whisper. “She’s not here anymore, Steve! Do you really think she would want this for you? She wouldn’t! You were family, you were her best friend, she would want you to leave, to find a better place, to live!”
If the look in his eyes could kill, you’d be buried under this ground right now. You can see that it’s getting worse, that his eyes are burning, that his chest is heaving.
“I know what danger is out there, but I need my family–”
“Smell the fucking non-existent sunflowers, they’re dead by now!”
Steve tries it again, to hurt you, to harm you where he knows it hurts the most but you shake your head, trying not to let his words get to you, trying not to let his words touch your heart. You take a step away from him, shaking your head.
“No–, no they’re not,” you whisper, feeling the familiar lump in your throat, the painful throbbing in your heart, the hotness in your eyes.
He scoffs at you, looking you up and down in disbelief, “you think you’re going to find your house surrounded by a gate of protection? You’re fucking delusional if you think so.”
You wrap your arms around yourself, taking a step back further. You hesitate, feeling intimidated by his presence all the sudden but he only follows, looking right into your glassy eyes.
He is guided by hatred. He can no longer see clearly, the pain has turned him into this, the pain has made him cold. He doesn’t care about the tears in your eyes, about the trembling in your bottom lip, about the fear and the sadness in your eyes.
“My family is alive, I-I know they are–”
“Smell the decay of the corpses around you, and tone down that hope of yours before you end up even more hurt than you thought you could ever be. Open your eyes for once and stop acting like an immature little girl.”
His words feel like a blow to your chest, stealing the breath from you and replacing it with pain. The colors vanish before your eyes, a darkness you never allowed to enter, blurring your vision and crawling into your veins, threatening to take over.
The tears no longer stay in your eyes, they start falling freely as your bottom lip trembles, a sob threatening to escape you though you push it back down, not wanting him to see just how much his words have hurt you.
You see nothing in his eyes, no remorse, no guilt, nothing but this – grief has turned him cold.
Your sniffle breaks his anger a little though, the blaring redness that flashed in his eyes just seconds ago, dimming just a bit when he begins to see the damage he has done. He sees the way your chest is rising up and down heavily, the way you're blinking quickly like it would stop your tears from falling, he sees the pain in your eyes that he had caused.
You are crying, he made you cry when he once swore to himself to never do this to anyone ever again.
“You’re…” Your voice breaks and you wipe your tears, as though it would change anything. “You’re a douchebag.”
The tension in his shoulders leaves him, and regret starts sinking in.
Robin thought that of him before she got to know him, before she became his friend. He changed, even more so when he found her.
Has her death made him turn back around?
Has it changed him this much?
She would be disappointed, she would kick his ass for what he did just now, for what he said, for how he made you feel, for making you cry when all you wanted was to help. He knew where it would hurt the most and he chose to hit you there exactly, not caring about what it would do to you.
You tear your eyes away from him, sniffling quietly as you walk away from him, leaving him in the rain.
His fingers itch, his hand moves forward as though to stop you but he quickly clenches his fist and breaks his eyes away from you, looking down at the muddy ground. He closes his eyes, shutting them tightly as he holds back tears. His heart is aching more than ever.
He knows you’re right, deep down he knows.
He knows it’s only fair for Eddie and Nancy to leave, he knows it all, he understands it all.
He knows that she would want him to go with them, that she would force him to if she could. He knows she’s gone, he hasn’t felt her presence since the day a bird had sat down on her cross, she is gone and there is no bringing her back, not even if he stays.
But how can he leave when all that is left of her is this?
Everywhere he turns there’s a reminder that she was here, every good memory he has of her would be abandoned and he can’t do it, he just can’t.
With trembling lips and tears now streaming down his cold cheeks, he turns back around, looking at her name on the cross, at the reminder… that she is gone, forever. His knees almost buckle, a sob threatens to rip from his lips but he doesn’t let it, he doesn’t allow himself to break down, even as the sadness and the guilt begins to consume him.
“Robin,” he whispers, shakily. He knows he won’t get an answer, he knows he won’t get the sign that he’s been begging for, he knows he won’t hear her voice calling back to him, the only thing he hears is the rain, the rustling trees and his own heartbeat. He tastes the saltiness of his tears, he tastes the bitterness. “Birdie…”
She is gone and she’s not coming back.
He lost her, and soon he will lose more.
Soon his biggest fear will catch up to him.
Being left behind, being all alone.
It was bound to happen.
Right?
-
Steve didn’t come out of his room all day.
You haven’t seen him, haven’t heard from him, haven’t heard his voice in the hallway or anywhere else.
He came home shortly after you the night before, you heard him talking to Nancy, heard her asking questions that he didn’t answer. You know she told him that you’re leaving today, told him to pack his bags and be ready by night. It’s getting dark out now, your bags are in the RV, as well as Nancy’s and Eddie’s, along with a box of pictures and other things that they refuse to leave behind.
You are all ready to go, all except for him.
Eddie is giddy, excited to finally hit the road, though you can also see his jumpiness, how he can’t seem to sit still, the anxiety of having to leave Steve behind is eating at him.
Nancy is distracting herself, sitting at the dining table, her guns and knives sprawled across the table, a cloth in her hand as she cleans her weapons.
You’re sitting by the window, looking into blank space. Sadness lingered in you all day, and it didn’t change throughout it. He planted thoughts into your head that you refused to think about or even consider, though now a part of you can’t help but feel anxious because what if… what if there is some truth to it? What if you are being a little too hopeful? What if you are being ignorant and foolish?
You know he was hurt, and that hurt has triggered the anger, anger that he directed at you – he wanted to hurt someone and you were there, the perfect target, you are the reason why his friends are leaving now.
You didn’t mention what you found out last night, not to Eddie nor Nancy. It only really sunk in this morning, when you woke up with a headache after crying yourself to sleep.
You don’t know how he lost her but something tells you that she didn’t go peacefully. He blames himself, you saw it in his eyes.
“We should go soon.” It’s Nancy who breaks the silence in the room, a determined look on her face. You can sense her hesitation, her nervousness. She doesn’t want to go without him, you saw the way her eyes kept flicking to the staircase waiting for him to come walking down the stairs with bags in his hands, he never did. She told him to be ready by 7pm, it’s 8 now.
Eddie told you that Steve said goodbye, that he hugged him and Nancy, and prepared food and snacks for the road. No matter how much they begged and tried to convince him to come with them, it was to no avail. He never planned on leaving, not then, not now.
A part of you wants to try, to go up to his room and talk to him again but you doubt he wants to see you, especially after last night. He hates you, you saw it in his eyes. He won’t change his mind, not for you. He hurt you, but you still don’t want him to stay here, to be alone, to be left behind.
Eddie stops pacing around, he watches Nancy as she gets up from her seat, putting the guns and knives away into her backpack.
“Nance,” Eddie hesitates, looking at her in uncertainty.
She throws her backpack over her shoulder and shrugs at him, trying to look tough, trying to mask the worry on her face.
“He made his choice, he wants to stay. I won’t force him to come with us.” That is all she says before she leaves the room, taking you by surprise with her sudden coldness. She walks out of the house without another word.
Eddie glances at you, taking in the frown on your face, the sadness behind your puffy eyes. He knows that something happened between you and Steve when you followed him out into the rain, last night. He suspects that he threw unkind words at you – you didn’t tell him anything, neither did Steve but Eddie knows it crashed between you.
Now all he sees is hesitation in your eyes, despite the hurt written across your face. He can tell you don’t want to leave him behind. Eddie noticed that you had developed some kind of attachment to Steve, despite his constant cold shoulder.
You keep your eyes trained on the ground, blinking rapidly as you get up, not moving away from the window just yet though.
Eddie sighs, he walks over to the desk by the window, opening one of the drawers, he picks out a map he kept hidden, a copy of the one already in the RV. It’s marked up just like the other one, the town in California circled in a red color. He carries it over to the dining table, “in case he changes his mind,” he tells you.
You furrow your eyebrows as you look between him and the map, “I thought you didn’t have a copy?”
He makes his way over to you, a small smile grazing his lips, he places his palm on your shoulder, “guess I lied a little.” His brown eyes are sad, not matching the smile at all. He squeezes you, nodding softly before he steps away, looking around one more time, even though he’s done it a few times already today. “I’ll be outside.”
“Yeah…”
He closes the door behind him, leaving you by yourself.
You can’t say that you’re surprised by their sudden decision to leave today, but then again, they have been waiting for this moment for a long time. They’ve been waiting for it for a year, waiting for him to be ready. He never will be.
You take a deep breath as you look around the house you found shelter in, found new friends in. You wouldn’t have been here if you didn’t follow him that day. You tug your jacket closer to your body, gripping it tightly.
You don’t want to leave without him.
But you are the last person to change his mind.
You have known him for a few days only and yet he managed to crawl under your skin. You got used to him, despite his rough demeanor, despite yesterday.
You make your way upstairs, you can’t leave without saying goodbye.
But when you knock on his door, he doesn’t respond or open the door – not that you expected him to. You lean against the door frame, keeping your knuckle against the wooden door.
“Steve?” You whisper shakily, hoping to hear his voice. “I uh… I just wanted to thank you, for letting me stay, I know you didn’t want to but still… thank you.”
You hear nothing on the other side, no shuffling, no footsteps, no sighs, nothing.
A sigh falls from your lips, the sadness in you spreading further.
“Despite everything, it was nice meeting you… Goodbye Steve.”
You finally pull away from the wood, looking at the door one last moment before you head back downstairs and grab the backpack you left on the floor. You look around the house one last time and you can’t help but imagine him walking downstairs, where his friends once were, and see them all gone. Just himself and the ghost of what once was and never will be again.
It hurts to leave him behind, and you can’t even imagine how Nancy and Eddie feel. You have your answer once you head out and towards the back where you see Eddie wiping his cheek away while making sure the tires are all set, and how Nancy has her back towards the two of you, and her legs are slightly shaking as she looks at stuff into her weapon bag.
They are hurt from leaving him behind, way more than you are. You had to reassure them that even in loneliness, Steve will be safe. He is inside a community, guarded even if little, but he is still with people and in safety.
“Okay ladies, I think we are good to go.” Eddie says finally and you head over to Nancy, putting a hand on her shoulder.
“Come on, Nance.” You see her looking at the distance, towards the same way you followed Steve the night before. You see her gulp tightly, nodding at you before turning around and heading inside the RV first. You turn to see Eddie giving you a small comforting smile as he looks at the house one last time.
He sighs as he turns towards you, bowing down as he points with his arm towards the open door of the RV. You can only smile so little at the theatrics, and you take a deep breath before you step inside, surprised to see just how well equipped it is. Two big seats at the front, driver and passenger, then followed by counters on the side, and then a couch on the other. A pull out couch. Then at the end of the kitchen counter sat a small booth, with a small table in the middle.
You see there is a small little hallway, which has the door to the toilet, and then at the very back end you can see the big double bed. It has a sliding door to close it from everyone else if needed. You are amazed by it, a small and nice motorhome for the three of you. Eddie enters the RV as Nancy starts the vehicle. He closes the door behind him and he wiggles his eyebrows at you.
“You like it? I installed the pull out couch myself. We have enough gas till the next possible gas station, and hopefully there’s still some left, so we need to make sure to not run out before that.” Nance only nods as you look up and open the bag cupboard at the top of the couch, putting your bag inside as well as Eddie’s and hers. You close it and you three hear the RV coming to life finally.
“Good job Eddie.” Nancy finally smiles his way, and Eddie puffs out his chest as he sits in the passenger’s seat, pulling the map out of the glove compartment in front of him. He had marked down all possible places they could stop at to look for more food and gas. Even toiletries. He also marked all possible gas stations, and you realize they had been planning this for a very long time.
“Okay… goodbye Hawkins you piece of shit.” Eddie says, making you hum as you take a seat on the couch. Your body suddenly sways as the RV starts to move slowly, and the excitement starts to come back to you as well as the fear of what you might encounter. You are going to your family. You are going to find your family and you will be safer this time. You have people around you, armed and willing to protect you as much as you would protect them. You won’t sleep in the mud, looking for cover under the cup of the trees. You will be sleeping either on a nice couch, or the bed whenever available.
You see how Nancy turns the lights on and off quickly, just enough to mark her way through the trees, not following the main road so no one would stop you all. Your hands were gripping the couch tightly, not wanting to look out the window, not wanting to look back, but you were itching to do so.
It takes time because Nancy is going as slow as possible so the motorhome would not do that much of a sound thanks to the engine. You know that people are already sleeping by now, except for the guards at the front gate, and you are taking the closed off one. The one in all chains.
Once you reach it, Nancy stops the RV right in front of it, Eddie getting up from the passenger’s seat to walk towards the cupboard underneath the sink of the kitchen, taking out some bolt cutters. Your eyes widen as he pulls those out and you turn to look at Nancy.
“Hang on, you are cutting those open– you are going to leave the gate open for all the community inside here!” Nancy sighs at your outburst and you hear the clanking of chains, you turn your head to see Eddie holding a new pair in his hands and a lock.
“We are not that reckless and selfish. It took me some time to find a spare pair of chains this size, and a lock, but– It’ll endure.” With those last words, he jumps off the RV, and you rush to the passenger seat to see him get into action, grabbing the cutters and start snapping the chains away.
You’re biting your lip as you see the metals falling piece by piece. Eddie hesitates for just one second before he snaps open the last chain. He pushes one of the doors open slightly and Nancy turns on the bright lights instantly. You see how he pulls it open even more and you see how there is nothing out there, giving you guys the green light to go. He gives a nod towards the two of you and pushes the first gate open and then the next one.
His eyes widen when one bright light shines your way, the guard light tower pointing your way. The sound of a loud siren blasting suddenly and you realize you’ve been caught. Nancy and you motion Eddie to leave the chain behind, that people will put it back together instead of him.
“Shit, shit, shit!” Nancy curses loudly.
Eddie snaps out of it as he rushes to the doors of the RV, the motorhome starting to move forward as you hear the screams of people, telling you to stop, to turn back, that it’s dangerous out there. The front of the vehicle is out and you’re almost passed the gate when Eddie’s head turns to his left, his panicked face falling as his eyes widen.
“Eddie, get in!” You yell, trying to snap him out, and Nancy groans loudly.
“Munson, I’m stepping the gas whether you get fully inside or not–”
“It’s Steve!” Her eyes widen as well as yours. She doesn’t stop moving, instead slowing down.
You rush towards the window, popping your head out and sure enough, you see him.
He is running fast even with a bag hanging on his back, two duffel bags on each side of his hips, his bat in one hand, the other gripping a flashlight tightly. You hear Eddie egging him on, to keep running because Nancy is not stopping, she can’t. You see the flashlights of people running towards you, right behind Steve, ready to stop you all from stepping into the danger zone.
He can’t feel his limbs anymore from how much he ran, from how dumb it was to not tell the three of you that he had actually packed, leaving the bags in his room. Dumb to tell you that he left to give his last goodbye to Robin’s parents and Robin herself. He spent all day with her. Had breakfast, had lunch, and finally dinner.
He lost track of time, and when he returned to the house, none of you were in it. His heart had crumbled to the floor, but it was just a few minutes late, so if he had any luck, you three were still near. He grabbed everything as fast as he could, rushing into the kitchen to shove one last thing into his duffel bag, and then run out. He ran through the woods with his flashlight, following the broken bushes and the tire trails the vehicle left.
As soon as the RV came into view, the lights from behind him turned on, his panic rising as he didn’t have a chance to even catch a breath. He saw how the officers and the guards started running towards him with their flashlights, and he took off. He ran as fast as his feet could take him, trying not to think of all the weight he was also carrying. He could hear Eddie calling for him, his hand reaching out already for Steve to grab.
He knew that the moment he grabbed Eddie’s hand, Hawkins would be a thing of the past. She would be the past. Everything would be the past. But Robin would have wanted him to move forward. She would have wanted him to keep on going. She would have kicked his ass if she found out he was willing to throw everything away just for her. She would have wanted him to actually live.
So he grabs onto Eddie’s hand.
Eddie pulls tightly with a grunt, using all his strength. Nancy picks up the speed and throws her foot onto the gas when Steve manages to put one foot on the first step of the RV. Eddie drags them both inside, falling onto the floor with Steve.
You are stunned as you stare down at them both. You snap out of it when you feel the cold wind, you run towards the door and shut it, locking it.
Steve is panting, no, heaving as he tries to recover his breath on all fours, staring at the floor. Eddie is sitting up, his hand coming to rest on Steve’s back. The three of you are silent, not having expected Steve to appear out of nowhere at the last minute.
“What… What happened?” Eddie asks, his own breathing heavy from the whole ordeal, and you can just stand over them both, looking as Steve starts to shake, your eyes coming to meet in the middle in worry.
“I– I was saying goodbye– I forgot to tell you, I’m so sorry–” And you can hear the choked up voice, your heart turning with sadness as Eddie’s eyes glistened, looking at his friend. Nancy couldn't stop driving, but she turned her head for just one second to look and you saw how a tear was running down her cheek, her gaze turning back to the road.
“Steve…” Eddie’s voice is low, a whisper and it was the key that opened the gate to Steve’s emotions. Through his heavy breaths, you start hearing his sobs. Choked up sobs that he wanted to swallow down, but it was impossible. Soon, his tears were hitting the floor as he stared down at it, his fingers digging into the carpet as memories flashed in his mind.
He could almost picture Robin waving at him from the gate that people were already closing. He could almost picture how she would be smiling and jumping happily the more the RV drove away. How she would be cheering him on. His cries were loud, knowing there is a part of him that was being left behind, a part that he will never in his life get back.
You could hear the sniffles coming from the driver’s seat as well, quieter than Steve’s cries of pain, and you saw how Eddie was keeping a strong face for both his friends, especially Steve who was still trying to breathe through his sobs.
You just stood there as you waited, wanting to comfort the man that was on the floor, but you knew better. It was a moment that he needed to have with his friends, with his family. You felt your own tears flowing down your cheeks. You didn’t know Robin, but from the cries of your new found friends, you realized she was loved. She was very much loved.
The road ahead was uncertain, but in Steve’s mind, only one little thing resonated, one little voice that he could hear despite the dark clouds inside it, and the screams coming out of his mouth. If he was imagining it, he hoped it would never leave him. He might have gone crazy, but he was so happy to hear her voice, at least one last time.
‘Goodbye, Dingus.’

Need A Hero To Save Me (Just In Time)
JJ Maybank x Fem!Routledge!Reader
Warning(s): mild swearing. that's all.
Request: could you do a fic with jj where y/n is a routledge and after john b is presumed dead, shoupe shows up and ends up taking her to a foster camp (the one kie was actually taken to) and then jj comes to save her while kie and pope go to charlotte?
Notes: This one took a while. It's the first obx fic I've finished since s4 and...yeah. S4 wasn't exactly motivating.
You wanted to die.
You'd already lost your dad, and now you've lost your brother. You refused to go back to the Cameron's so you holed yourself up in the chateau, crying.
Kie and Pope were pretty much on house arrest, but JJ came by often.
He was the only thing holding you together at that point.
Which was why it hurt all the much more when Shoupe came to take you away.
"The...Camerons have decided to send you to Kitty Hawk," Shoupe said. "They are still technically your legal guardians, so they have a say, since you're not eighteen yet."
Your stomach sinks. The behavorial camp? You'd only heard bad things about the place, the wilderness cookoos nest, and weren't excited to have your adventure ripped out of you.
Tears swelled in your eyes. "I- I don't have a choice do I?"
Shoupe sighed, shaking his head. "No. I'm sorry, you don't."
You nodded, choking up. "Okay. Let me just...pack some stuff."
Shoupe turned away, heading back outside where the Kitty Hawk car was waiting to take you away from the only home you'd ever known.
It was empty now, though. Void of the brother and father that gave it life. A shell of a happy home.
You contemplated texting Kie. Or Pope. Tell someone where you were going.
You also considered running, but where would you go? You didn't have a car, the twinkie was still impounded, and you didn't have anywhere to go where you wouldn't be turned in.
The Carreras and Heywards were lovely, but they'd think it would be best for you to obey, to go to the reformitory camp.
"Okay, JJ," you mumbled, quickly sharing your location with him along with an explanation text. "Be my hero."
With that, you threw a few pairs of clothes and other neccessities into a bag and went to meet Shoupe outside.
So, this was it.
No more chateau. No more Kildaire High. No more boneyard parties or late night bonfires. No more pogues.
You gave your home on last look, trying to keep the tears from falling as you went.
Shoupe was talking with one of the workers, dressed in boring beige that matched the car behind him.
"Ready to go?" Shoupe asked, brightly.
"No," you replied. "But I don't have a choice, remember?"
Shoupe frowned, a flash of guilt crossing his face before he turned away.
"Can I check your bag?" The worker asked, shifting his stance to face you.
"Why? Think I'm bringing a weapon or something?"
"From what I hear about you and your friends, it wouldn't be a surprise."
You glared, shoving your bag into the man's arms. "Don't go rooting around in my underwear, would you?"
He didn't dignify your jab with a response, simply rumaged through your few belongings before zipping it back up and handing it to you.
"Everything a-okay, boss?" you snap.
The worker grunts, opening the back door for you to get in.
You send Shoupe one last glare before getting in and having the door slammed behind you.
Meanwhile, JJ's phone dinged with a text that wasn't from the recently resurrected John B.
"Guys, we have a problem," JJ said, looking up from his phone.
"Yeah, obviously, clearing John B.'s name is gonna be-"
"No. I mean a new problem," JJ interrupted. "The Camerons sent Y/N to Kitty Hawk."
Kiara's head snapped up. "The wilderness camp?"
"Yeah," JJ slammed his hand against the lockers. "God damn it! Every time we catch a break it's something else."
"I hate to say this, JJ, but we have bigger fish to fry right now," Pope said. "Y/N will be fine at Kitty Hawk but John B. could be snagged at any moment."
JJ looked scandalized. "Pope they're gonna rip her personality out of her, haven't you heard the stories?"
"Yes, JJ, I have and I know that they don't shoot them on sight, okay?" Pope replied. "Right now, we gotta try to get some evidence against Rafe before the Camerons destory any trace of it, okay?"
JJ looked like he wanted to protest, but kept his mouth shut. "Fine. But we get something, I'm going for her, alright? I'm not gonna let her rot in there. Not when her brother's alive."
You were curled in on yourself, knees hugged to your chest as you watched the trees pass by, depression and hopelessness setting in. You hadn't heard back from JJ or anyone.
You felt well and truly alone.
The car pulled up to the gate where a guard was stood.
"I have Y/N Routledge," the driver said.
The guard waved them through and the gates closed behind you.
There were girls all around, gardening, mowing, digging. Manual labor type things.
Your stomach sank.
The worker and driver that picked you up led you passed all the girls (who looked about as excited to be there as you did) into an building where you were handed a uniform and sent into an office to speak with a woman you guessed was the leader of this...lovely establishment.
"Welcome to our camp, Y/N," she said with a smile that was a bit too kind for the soulless nature of the place. "How are you finding it so far."
You shrugged. "Not finding it inviting, if that's what you were hoping for."
The woman ignored you, jotting something down in the notebook before her.
"I understand you recently lost your brother," she said.
You glared at her. "Yeah. Someone was trying to frame him for murder and he died in a thunderstorm. Thanks for bringing that up, it only happened a few days ago, so it's still raw and all that."
She smiled at you. "You know, we can help you process it. Here we give girls like you the opportunity to rebuild."
"Girls like me?"
"Girls from...rough homes."
"I am not from a rough home."
She flipped a page she had. "Stop me if I'm wrong, but for the last several months you were living in your childhood home without a guardian, and with your brother, until Ward Cameron took you in."
"Yeah, and then Ward Cameron's psycho son shot our sheriff and they framed my brother for it, so forgive me if I wasn't too eager to go back," you snapped.
She closed the file. "Y/N. I understand that you are greiving. But this is a new opportunity for you. A good opportunity."
You snorted. "Yeah. I'm sure."
JJ was going insane. He couldn't stop think about you, about John B. It was like the Routledges had moved into his brain.
He tried texting you, no answer. John B. was also MIA, probably ditched the phone he was using.
And now Pope wanted to go to Charleston.
"Charleston?" JJ asked.
"I know," Pope replied. "It's like an eight hour drive plus the ferry, how are we going to get there tonight?"
"Yeah, we'd have to leave like right now."
"I have a free period," Kiara said.
"Material evidence," JJ whispered. "What's that even mean 'material evidence'?"
"It means he can clear John B.," Kiara explained.
"Oh, shit, then we're going to Charleston," JJ said, louder than the cranky librarian cared for.
"I need to tell my mom," Kiara said. "If we get it this time, we are not giving it to Shoupe."
JJ agreed.
Clear John B. This could be huge.
"Guys," JJ said suddenly. "If, uh, if we're clearing John B...I really think Y/N outta be there."
They both groaned. "Not this again, JJ."
"What? Doesn't she deserve to know he's alive? That he can maybe come home?" JJ said.
"Yes, of course she does, but we have to go to Charleston, we can't take a detour-"
"Then I'll go get her!" he whisper-shouted. "You guys go to Charleston and I'll go get Y/N."
Kiara huffed at him. "Do you even have a plan?"
JJ shrugged. "You know me, I make it up as I go."
"JJ, you don't have a car, how are you even going to get there?" Pope said.
JJ frowned. "I'll- I'll go break the twinkie out of lockup and use it."
"What?"
"JJ, what if you get caught?"
JJ groaned. "All right, how about y'all focus on Charleston and I'll focus on Y/N."
In the end, they agreed and let him go off to break out the twinkie and try to break out Y/N.
All the while, you were stuck hanging laundry and gardening. Nothing you'd never done before, but something about being forced to do it made it worse.
Plus, you'd never been a morning person and waking up before 6 a.m. was proving to be a nightmare.
And going to bed at 9 p.m. only made you dream about John B. About how he must've drowned in that thunderstorm. About him calling your name before being swallowed by the ocean.
You woke up crying.
JJ drove up to the Kitty Hawk gate, trying to appear as casually as he could in the beat-up, cracked windshield, hippie van that was the twinkie. It was a miracle that he was able to get it out and get it running without ending up with a flat halfway there.
"How y'all doing?" JJ greeted, giving the gate guard his brightest, most casual smile.
"Can I help you?" The guard said.
"Hey, there, uh, sir, I-" He gestured to the gate. "Camp couselor Laura, I'm- I'm her brother. I was gonna drop off one of these packages back here for her, if that's okay."
One of JJ's strengths was lying out of his ass.
He could only hope that a) there was a couselor named Laura or b) that these guy's didn't know the counselor's names.
"It's real quick, I promise, just in and out," he said. "That all right?"
JJ's heart was pounding, but his exterior remained calm.
"Yeah, go ahead," the guard said, gesturing to the other guard to wave him through.
Fuck. Yes.
"Thank you so much, all right," JJ said. "Y'all have a good day."
He drove the twinkie into Kitty Hawk on a hope and a prayer, easing it into a parking space and getting out.
"Okay, Y/N, if I were you, where would I be hiding out in this shit hole?" he mumbled.
It was an eerie place. Girls walked in formal lines and were watched like hawks at they did so.
JJ waved to one of the watchers. "Hi there, sir, uh, I'm looking for... I'm looking for the office."
The man seemed nice enough, seeming to trust JJ's nice demeanor (and the fact he was let in at all).
"Is there a main lodge or something?"
The man pointed him in the right direction and JJ followed without argument, sauntering right up to the office.
"Hi there, ma'am," JJ said to the woman at the front desk.
"Can I help you son?" she asked.
"I, uh, I have a message for one of your campers," he said. "Uh, Y/N. Y/N Routledge, she's here, right?"
"Unfortunately we're not allowed to do that," the woman responded, looking at him in the way the woman in the high school office always did when he got called into the principal's office. "You're not even supposed to be here on campus."
JJ licked his lips. "Okay. It's...It's just that's it's a very important- May I sit?"
The woman allowed him and he settled into the chair.
"A very important matter, ma'am," He continued.
"Oh, I'm sure it is, sweetie, but we have a policy. No contact from the outside world for the first six weeks."
JJ considered. He had to pull on this woman's heart strings to get anywhere. She was nice enough, had a picture of her cat on her desk...which sadly meant he could manipulate her pretty easily.
"Right...ma'am, it's actually a family matter, and uh," he said. "I'm...I'm related to her, I'm her cousin. So, I know you got a policy and all, but there's just been something that happened recently that..."
JJ was getting choked up.
Fakely, of course, but he was still doing it.
"You know what? I'm getting a little emotional, right now, so I think I should go," he stood up. "I shouldn't even be here, like you said, so I'll leave you alone. But before I leave-"
Here goes nothing.
"Could you just let her know, um...could you let her know that they found her brother?"
The woman seemed taken aback.
"I- uh, I'm sure you've heard that he drowned in a boating accident a few days ago and, uh, they've been looking for him since and...and they finally found him this morning, so."
The woman seemed striken, her eyes even getting a little misty.
"I'll- I'll go now, sorry to bother you..."
Then he was out.
But he wasn't done.
He snuck around the side of the building, watching as the front desk woman and an attendant went up to a building and unlocked it.
"Y/N? Sweetie? Can you come out here?"
You perked up from your space on the bed at the voice and headed to the door.
"I'm sorry, Sweetie, but at Kitty Hawk, we feel you have the strength to hear all the news," she said when you were in front of her. "Including bad news."
Your stomach sank. "What happened?"
"Well, your cousin was here a minute ago."
Your face flashed with confusion.
As far as you knew, you didn't have any cousins.
"What cousin?"
"A young man, blond."
Your eyes widened.
JJ?
"He asked me to tell you that...that they found your brother."
"Wh- what?"
"He said they found him this morning...that he didn't make it."
Your legs felt like they were going to give out.
No. No, no, no no.
"They- He-" Tears were swelling up in your eyes.
"Oh, oh, honey, why don't you go sit down," she said.
JJ, who was pressed against the building as tightly as he could, felt guilty for using John B. (who wasn't dead) as a way to get to you. But it was the only thing he could think of.
"Take all the time you need."
You went back inside the cabin and dropped on the bed.
JJ. He was there.
And he wouldn't leave you there, would he?
You needed him now more than ever.
That night, two attendants came by the reflection cabin, where they'd placed you for that afternoon.
"Y/N." the woman said. "We know your greiving and feel you're best supported by your peers. So, we're going to relocate you."
Your heart started pounding.
"I- I really feel like I need some more time to reflect," you said.
"No stalling," the man snapped. "Come on, we're putting you in a dorm. Cabin six. Let's go."
You could only hope that if JJ was still there, he was watching closely.
You followed them into Cabin Six, where girls of all kinds turned to look at you as you walked in. Like they were eyeing up the new meat.
"Girls. This is Y/N." the woman said. "She's had some tough family news. Let's show her some empathy and love, okay? Can we do that?"
The way they were looking at you, you guessed the real answer would be no.
They whispered and smirked as one of the male attendants walked you to your bed. It was a top bunk, near the middle of the room.
Not at all like your cosy, window side bed back home.
It made you feel like a trapped animal. And the girls didn't help.
It seemed like love and empathy were the last things these girls wanted to offer you.
At least they didn't taunt or bully, like the Kooks. At least they gave you the peace of being left alone.
You rumaged through your bag as the sun had nearly set and all the girls were getting ready for bed.
You pulled out the photobooth strip of photos you had with the pogues that you'd take on your birthday last year, before everything went to shit. One with each of them and one all together.
You heart ached as you looked at the picture of you and John B. and you felt the tears start to swell in your eyes.
You quickly wiped them away, not wanting to be caught crying around everyone.
Then, your eyes landed on the one of you and JJ.
God. JJ.
If he was there, if he was really going to save you, god, you'd kiss him.
You wanted to go home.
The night settled in and you closed your eyes, but didn't sleep. Waiting and hoping with all your might, that he was going to find you.
And JJ was hoping with all his might that none of these guys with flashlights stumbled upon him.
He carefully made his way to the building labeled "Cabin Group #6" and quietly tried popping the door unlocked with an old card he had in his bag.
It worked, but it also made a loud noise as it opened, causing him to swear under his breath as he eased it open, slipped inside, and eased it closed again.
There were rows of beds there and he had no way of knowing which one Y/N was in.
So, he started asking "Y/N?" as quietly as he could.
Unfortunately, in the otherwise pin-drop silence of the cabin, it was still loud.
One girl clicked on the light and he froze.
"What are you doing in here?" she asked.
Fuck.
"Uh, evening, miss," he tried. "Sorry- Sorry to bother y'all."
Other girls started sitting up and looking at him, none of them so far Y/N.
"Shit. I know this looks bad, but I come in peace," he insisted. "I'm just looking for someone, I'm looking for-"
"JJ?"
He turned at your voice, his heart jumping in his chest as his eyes finally landed on you.
Your eyes were puffy and your hair was messy but you were the most beautiful thing he'd ever seen.
"Y/N." he breathed.
You moved, leg swinging over the bed and climbing down to see him. You rushed into his awaiting arms, hugging him tightly.
"JJ, what're you- how did you- did they really find-"
"No!" JJ assured, a little louder than he meant. "No. No, he's alive, Y/N. Him and Sarah, they both made it. They're hiding out in the Bahamas and Pope and Kie are in Charleston getting something to clear his name so he can come home."
The information hit you like a train. "Are- are you serious? JJ, I-"
"Look, we gotta go, okay? Before someone catches me- or us. Okay, we just gotta," he started moving towards the door.
You quickly grabbed your bag from the side of the bed and rushed after him.
"Ladies," JJ said. "Thank you for your cooperation."
And then you were gone, leaving the other girls with an unlocked door.
You and JJ rushed through the trees, hand in hand.
"I can't believe you did this!" you cried, absolutely elated.
"You thought I was just going to let you rot in there? When John B.'s alive? No way, man. Never."
"JJ," you stopped him in the middle of the trees. "Thank you. Really, thank you. Thank you so much."
He grinned. "You can thank me later, let's just get out of here before they send someone after us."
You both continued running, bags bouncing and hearts pumping, towards the place he'd stashed the twinkie before sneaking back in.
You saw the old van and felt your heart swell. It was just as much home as the chateau.
JJ jumped in the driver's seat and you in the passenger.
"Hey," you said, getting his attention.
When he turned his head, you kissed him.
He sucked in a breath, surprised at your action, so the kiss lasted only a short moment.
"Thank you, again," you said, smiling.
He blinked a moment, trying to get his brain back on line, and cleared his throat. "Yeah, you're- uh. You're welcome. Let's get out of here, yeah?"
His face had flushed, though you couldn't see it in the dark, and he drove off, back towards the Kildaire.
You and JJ were definitely going to need a moment to talk about your feelings later, but for now you were out of Kitty Hawk, your brother was alive, and he was going to be coming home.
You felt more alive on that drive back than you had since your dad went missing.

What kinks do you think the doctor would be into?
(I boldly ask as I sit in my bed kicking my feet like a schoolgirl whenever I see something about that guy)
OH ANON. i have a LOT to say about this. (me too anon i always twirl my hair and giggle like a schoolgirl whenever i think of him 😵💫) also: check end for a little note!
THE DOCTOR HEADCANNONS — THE THINGS THAT BRINGS HIM PLEASURE? (NSFW 18+)
tags/warnings; NSFW! MINORS DNI, gender neutral (pound town but with no mention of spesific genitalia! hell yeah!), dom! harley sawyer x sub! reader, impact play, degradation, predator/prey dynamics, dacryphilia, size difference (you know how tall his physical body is compared to the player? yeah.. 🙂↕️) rough and raw all day and all night long,
we all know how our dear doctor sees himself as some sort of god among men. he created something almost as perfect as life itself—someone with such intelligence and capabilities surely makes a difference than others of his own kind, no?
of course—such a narcissistic, apathetic, struck-up sociopath would need his ego to be constantly fed well. and sawyer has just the perfect prey to feed himself off.
what other source could he get it from if it weren't from you? you were his perfect little lab rat, his dearest prized trophy—someone he could easily break for his own satisfaction.
sawyer loves it when he gets to hunt for his prey. there's no victory sweeter than having you—a clueless, pathetic little rat—trapped in his so-called 'experiments', forcing you into oblivion as he watches your defenses slowly crumble before his eyes. oh, how he lives for the thrill of hunting—your figure cowering under his tall one, his grip on your neck tight enough to snap it in half. "shush now, little rat. you don't want to know what happens to noisy little rats, do you?"
it's also quite obvious how sawyer possesses some sort of sadistic trait: he finds it amusing to toy with those under his mercy. he loves hearing you plead, your cries growing desperate from his rough touches—hell, you don't even know what you were begging for in the first place. was it to make the pain stop? or is it because of the overwhelming pleasure? either way, sawyer feasts on the meek chants of his name as you beg him to be more gentle—your entire body twitching in bliss as he lends no mercy. he'd purposefully go faster, rougher than before—his hoarse chuckle echoing through the room with a following taunt, "lab rats don't get to decide what happens to them, do they? now keep me amused, little rat, i expect you to take it well."
his ego thrives the most when he finds you drooling over his mean, mocking words—oh, what a lovely sight it is to have your body tremble to such lowly words—he finds it amusing how you react so eagerly everytime he calls you worthless. the way his gentle voice coax his cruel words never fails to drive you insane, just enough to push you over to the edge. "look at you, pathetic little wretch. just a moment ago you were so confident, yet now.. nothing more than a worthless whore begging to repent, hm? " god, his voice will be the death of you.
sawyer loves pushing you to the brink of tears—there's something about seeing you in tears that.. satisfies him. he would purposefully rip his hand away from your aching core just as you were getting close to your high—earning him your needy gasp as your body trembles from the sudden loss of contact. oh, what a pretty sight it was to see you wail and sob underneath him, tears pooling on your lashline, soon making its way down to your cheeks. it almost had him.. pitying you. almost. sawyer would simply let out a chuckle, wrapping his fingers around your jaw tightly as he eyed the beautiful sight beneath him in awe. "now would you look at yourself, little rat.. you look like a pathetic, lost little puppy. it suits you very well."
oh, how your stomach dropped when you found out that your sobs and whimpers only pushes the doctor further to his edge—his actions completely unhinged as he uses you for his own pleasure. he'd slap your cheek across until it's burning red; leaving trail of bruises all over your body from his tight, clawing grasp; or gently grabbing a lock of your hair only to yank it roughly, holding your head in place as he carelessly uses you like a ragdoll. you'd scream, beg, wail, and sob—but those were the exact response he craves from you.
the size difference between you and sawyer pushes him further to the brink—realizing how he could easily snap you in half like a dried twig if he wanted to. i mean, his figure alone is almost as twice bigger than you are. god, how he loved seeing those delicate, trembling hands of yours reaching out to his arm for support as he presses your thighs against your chest into a mating press, pounding into you with no care as he constantly hits the deepest part of you, eyeing the bulge imprinted on your stomach—it makes you look like a little rat who dares to take more than what they can.
sawyer will make sure that everyone knows you belong to him. he wants everyone to see you as his little lab rat, his only to toy with and to use to his liking. he'll make it clear as daylight with the bruises all over your delicate skin, an impact from his rough claws—enough to even draw blood from it. he'll make sure to let everyone else know that it wouldn't end well if anything other than him dares to leave even the tiniest scratch on his dearest lab rat.
despite the roughness of his act, sawyer would never cross the line of breaking you apart. don't get him wrong though, the genuine act isn't simply out of the kindness of his heart—oh, that's even if he has any. he'll make sure to tend your wounds well, feed you with proper food, and make sure you get enough rest—all this just without the sympathy. all he knew is that broken toys are never fun to play with.
note; HEY GANG IM SO SORRY THIS TOOK LONGER THAN IT SHOULD !! honestly this isn't my proudest work, i feel like i can do better but dang the writer's block and uni assignments fucked me up real bad ❤️🩹❤️🩹 so i wanna say sorry in advance for this work :( but i do hope this can still bring a lil treat to the table 🍴

Hey, hi, hello~
I don't know if anyone is still around this little blog o' mine or if I'm just showing up suddenly on the dash and whoever is seeing this might not recall ever even following me lol.
But – whether you remember me or not – I'm just dropping by to say that...I've missed you and that I truly hope you're doing well 🫂💗

I...have not been doing so well. But I've been working on it.
In a way, it's been healing to reshape my approach to things like journaling and capturing photos. I've been taking the time to develop a practice in documenting daily life – the people I care about, the places we visit, and all the random little moments in between – with more intentionality and care than I have in recent years.
(tw: grief and loss/death under cut)
I lost my mom very suddenly last November – and things have been unbearably hard the last few months.
In a lot of ways, 2024 was one of the best years: my partner and I traveled to Japan for the first time ever, my family had a small reunion in our hometown to watch the total solar eclipse together, my best friends got married, and we went on so many amazing trips and had the type of outings that made me so inspired, optimistic, and excited about life and the future.
But in so many other ways, it was also one of the worst years I've had in a long time: starting with a hard-learned (but perhaps overdue) firsthand lesson and reminder on how scary and mean the internet can be, followed by losing both my grandfather in the spring and then my mother just before the winter holidays.
I'm not particularly good when it comes to emotions– forget about even processing grief or putting into any sort of meaningful words how it all feels. But I guess all of this has made me shift my mindset when it comes to wanting to just...remember. To not forget.

On documenting life through journaling...

I had always journaled in some way or another all my life, but I only really started considering it a serious practice and hobby sometime around 2020. But I had lost my way with it in recent years, treating it solely as some kind of aesthetic-only venture, and only dedicating the time if I knew that I could make it "pretty" and "palatable for sharing".
And so, many entries were missed; days and weeks lost to fuzzy recollection, months bled into each other, and little moments only existed as vague and passing snapshots on my phone gallery (if I even remembered to take a photo).
But I now wish I had just written it down; whatever it was – big, small, angry, funny, sad, happy – just wrote it all down. It didn't have to be an aesthetically collaged spread or artful doodle or drawing. I wish I had documented some of the last times I had seen or spoken with my mother; what she had said, did, or how she reacted to silly news or quips I told her. I barely remember anything even just from the last year.
So now I write it all down, day after day: I'll write what's on my mind, what we did before, what I'm doing currently, what I'm planning to do. If someone calls or my partner walks in to my studio while I'm working and tells me something that has me reacting in the moment I'll jot down a little "omg!!" or "lol" or "holy shit" next to whatever they said or did.
If I get little scraps from the day – receipts, tags, tickets, wrappers – I'll paste it in wherever it happens to fit in my journal, with a little note of the date or what the outing was. And every so often, I'll print out photos to paste in with notes relating back to past entries or junk journal spreads.
Is always pretty? No, but it's pretty in its chaos. Is it always even chronological? Not at all, but I've embraced the organic nature of pages and dates that sort of jump around, just as long it gets recorded. Does it always make sense? Not really, but it makes sense to me and that's really all that matters. And I love every page so, so much more than anything I had carefully curated before in my previous journals.

I had once carried a camera with me everywhere before phone cameras became decent enough that I didn't feel the need to have a dedicated tool for just taking pictures anymore.
It wasn't until we were all looking through our collective family photos to use for my mother's memorial service and headstone that it hit me that I just don't take as many pictures as I used to– and even when I did, they just don't compare to the ones that I took years ago when I did carry a camera with me on every outing and trip.
We ended up choosing a photo of her that I had taken on my once-beloved dSLR camera I used to haul around with me almost 10 years ago; she was smiling, strong, radiant, beautiful– and it was just a random moment I took my camera out in a Taiwan hair salon while she was waiting for me and my sister to get our hair done for our cousin's wedding.
A bit indescribable – and not even something I realized was missing – but there's something about having an actual camera on hand that pushes me to take more photos, and somehow better and more mindful photos at that.
And so I made the decision to invest in a new camera. An absolute necessity to take photos? No, of course not; I do still have my phone camera after all. But they say (apparently) that "the best camera is the one that you actually use"– and I was most definitely not using my phone as much as I could have been.
This new camera though? Only time will truly tell, but the past has shown that I've worked better with a dedicated camera on hand and already I can't begin to explain the difference it's made in the last week alone since I picked up the habit of carrying a camera around with me again.

This was a crazy long post that sort of got away from me. Not sure where I want to go from here – I guess I just want to say that if you ever felt called to document your life in some way, it's never too late to start; you'll only wish that you had begun sooner.
If you're still here– I love you. I hope you're taking care of yourself.
And thank you for reading along with my incredibly longwinded life update of what was essentially just "I'm grieving so I started journaling more and also bought a camera" lol.

things to think about/ do so you don't have time for overthinking ˖ . ݁𝜗𝜚. ݁₊
if you're confused, i understand. but if you're not, this post is perfect for you. this post if for the girlies who need to have something exciting in their life so that they're not so bored that they fall for some low quality man. its so that you can take back the power of how you feel and control it yourself so that nothing anybody can offer would be more appealing than what you give to yourself. also don't worry none of this is gonna be typical advice like "get a hobby!", this will be much more creative ;)
watch gossip girl!! you ALL know what i mean. literally when you feel like your life is lacking drama or something exciting, you can live vicariously through the scandals in this show
READ. "boring" no, you are. books are a great way to get lost in something thats also exciting. some book recs that i LOVED: percy jackson series, twilight, murder most unladylike, keeper of the lost cities.
do risky, scary, uncomfortable stuff on your own. a) to prove to yourself you're more than capable, and b) bc it will get you feeling groovy in no time. it can be things like talking to someone, prank calling, doing a random cartwheel in public, wearing an atrociously fabulous outfit, possibilities are endless. + plan spontaneous things you could do!
plan outfits in your head! ahhhh hahaha this is such a fav! if you know you're going out or on a trip soon, plan outfit combos and ideas of what you might wear instead of making fantasy scenarios of a loser (sorry sorry). even if you're not going anywhere, you could still decide outfits for any of the seasons or just future hypothetical scenarios
plan trips! yesss!! plan trips to countries you may want to visit, places you may want to take yourself on a date to, and not just that but actually decide when you're gonna go, are you gonna take family or friends? what you might wear, etc..
make argument/ persuasion ideas for when you hypothetically ask your parents if you can wear what you want. or, you know, something like that. if you didn't understand what i mean, basically try to think of persuading points of something that you want from your parents that they might not allow. its a good way to pass time ngl..
omgomgomg ok listen... pretend you're a spy working for/ against the government and you're here to get data... or something along those lines. wouldn't that be so cool!!
START A BLOG!! genuinely 10/10 recomend, idk i think i'd go insane without my blog lol. love it to pieces and its just something so fun to do, esp if you're a really creative person.
entertain the voices in your head. i don't mean in the troubling schizophrenia typa way, obviously. but like don't you guys entertain yourself by like mentally chatting to yourself? yeah do that! (idk if this is normal now, but i promise i don't have schiszophrenia)
if you really need some help/ are nervous, repeat affirmations. if you find yourself starting to feel anxious or scared or unloved or whatever, start repeating the opposite and do not allow those negative thoughts in. you can repeat things like "i am safe", "i am loved", "things will get better", "i am deserving of love and anything else i want."

I know that the fandom jokes a lot about how much Togami and Kirigiri order Naegi around to explain the clues in the trials, but I absolutely love the way they utilized this during the 4th Trial.
Specifically, in how Kirigiri is able to pack so much humiliation towards Togami without even breaking a sweat.
Togami throughout the game, especially in the Fourth Chapter, has been continuously downplaying the capabilities, lives, and agency of his fellow classmates. He is elitist, he was born into a family where if you don't bite and claw to survive, then you won't win, and believes he got to where he is through sheer cunning, willpower, and cold rationality. The idea of cooperating with the other students was beneath him. The idea of seeing people such as Asahina and Naegi as equals disgusted him due to his perceived differences in their class, capabilities, status, and levels of intellect.
In Trial 2, specifically, we see him attempt to one-up the others regarding being able to showcase how powerful and assured he is as an influential player within the Killing Game. He even used Naegi as a pawn to get him on the trail of his fabricated crime scene, just to see how people respond and to make the game less "predictable" while keeping control on the situation. However...
In that same trial, we see that the moment Naegi was able to uncover something Togami himself couldn't catch, his resolve wavers. He is humiliated, angry at the idea of some commoner, who couldn't even read 11037 as an upside down 'LEON' at the first trial, was able to outsmart him and put them on a new, unexpected path of inquiry all together. We can see that this gets to him after the trial is complete, showcasing how even if externally he looks calm and assured, being put off guard cuts him deep within his pride.
Being outsmarted, taken by surprise, or not given power over a situation frustrates him, and the seeds of that get planted during Chapter Four through multiple characters such as Kirigiri, Asahina, and Naegi.
Keep in mind that during this chapter a few key points happen that set the stage for what's to come. I am talking about Kirigiri's critical comments towards him before the Class Trial, and that Asahina was able to slap and threaten him.
These series of events do four things:
One, Asahina's actions hardened his viewpoint on Asahina as emotionally reckless and stupid, someone who he will underestimate in the later parts of the chapter.
Two, this outburst makes him double down on the idea of emotion as inferior and childish.
Three, Kirigiri's warnings make him believe he can elude betrayal, that he only has to worry about the ones who are already suspicious to him.
Four, due to being humiliated still by Asahina's surprise slap on him, he wants to regain his composure and status again amidst the cast as someone unflappable.
To me, the last point is why Togami himself went to great lengths of drinking most of the poison bottle in front of everyone. It's a way to show how untouchable and smart he is as a player, that he can surprise the others once more and remain unscathed at the very end from thinking many steps ahead of them.
However, this is where Kirigiri's words and actions click into place with humiliating the crap out of him.
When Asahina is interrogated to be lying, Togami starts to lose his resolve. He fell for Asahina's downplaying of her own intelligence and how she made obvious tracks because he believed she didn't have the capabilities to make a cleaner crime scene, and never thought deeply on why personally she would commit murder on her best friend.
He has honed in so much on the idea of killed or be killed, that the obvious contradictions went right under his nose. It didn't help that Naegi had to point this out to him afterwards.
Enter Kirigiri.
Now that Togami has lost his footing with Asahina's reveal, she then tells him that there is new evidence, surprising him once again by adding another unpredictable factor to the trial.
Stacking on to that, she rubs in that he was the one who gave it to her, and that he was too busy acting like a smartass with the bottle that he didn't inspect the evidence closer in the first place.
Since Togami does have some respect for Kirigiri in being capable of deduction and yet sees himself still as one of the best within the group, Kirigiri hones in on this. She adds how she's "amazed" that someone like him would overlook this, adding in a feeling of his intellect and capabilities being looked down upon in disappointment by a semi-peer.
Togami notes this indirectly in his dialogue, but during this scene, Kirigiri is intentionally omitting the answer to the clue also.
Compared to how she omits info from Naegi in past trials due to wanting to observe his capabilities, Kirigiri wants Togami to get desperate in this moment. He is already feeling out of the loop with multiple factors outside of his control, and not being able to think of a proper conclusion on his own due to being put off guard.
Contrasted with his past lectures—about how you can't trust people, and that you have to do things on your own—she now has Togami begging other people for an answer on the situation. To the point where his anger and frustration makes his requests sound childish, as if he's the impatient one compared to everyone else in the room.
To add even more insult to injury, Kirigiri then diverts the answer to Naegi. The person who Togami has mocked multiple times for being a commoner, someone who will never be equal to him, and who he sees as dense as a rock despite acknowledging his past deduction skills.
By doing this Kirigiri puts Togami into a corner where if he truly wants the answer to his question then he has to beg someone who is the complete opposite of everything he defines as a successful person, and you can see Togami processing this for a few seconds before relenting angrily.
In previous sessions, Togami was able to have a say in the trials and even be a massive influence in how the line of inquiries followed through; the moment Kirigiri put Naegi on the spot and gave him the reins, the tide has changed and is now in their hands.
Trial 4 has Naegi and Kirigiri carrying the deduction phase in solving Asahina's betrayal and Oogami's suicide, and doing an amazing job tying up a lot of loose ends in rapid succession much to Togami's bewilderment.
He is completely falling behind, and this makes him even more humiliated and angry as he loses his cool during the second half of the trial.
He yells about Kirigiri giving him loaded questions, about how unfair it is that she knows more than him, basically watching this man go into a tantrum right in front of everyone he's previously mocked for being emotional. It is just an avalanche of continuous pathos triggering the same humiliated feelings with each second he reacts to them.
He has to listen in shock as Asahina is found out to have been the one who betrayed them, and that suicide was the only viable way for the crime scene to occur. Asahina and Oogami took him by surprise, and if it weren't for Naegi and Kirigiri to disprove the former's claims, they all would've been executed. Togami fell for all of it, and gets hit once more with the feeling of being wrong, of losing to people he never expected to best him while Kirigiri continues to refute him without hesitation.
He's then placed in a position where Kirigiri and Naegi have beaten down his arguments well enough for him to dejectedly apologize after yelling, which is huge for someone like him.
The best part about this is that the moment he does this, Togami takes a full backseat to the entire debate as Naegi and Kirigiri interrogate Asahina and reveal the truth over Sakura's death.
He interjects a few times, and he only jumps back into the conversation completely at the finale—all to ask Makoto how he was able to beat him.
And in the end, Kirigiri responds (in frustration, which is hilarious) by telling him the exact reasons why he never was able to solve this case. She didn't even have to go on a huge tangent, all she needed to do is hit him right where it hurts: his pride, his black and white viewpoints, his inability to win, and that he is just as vulnerable and volatile as the rest of the people he looks down upon.
These lines themselves wouldn't have gotten to him before. We have seen how resistant Togami was when the group tried to argue with him over his behaviors, but now, each sentence hits him like a stack of bricks due to being dragged through the mud multiple times all to prove Kirigiri's point that she was right, and that he was wrong.
There is so much humiliation just packed into every single back-and-forth of the trial, you can't help but wince (and cheer) at how effective it was in getting Togami to back down completely.
#danganronpa#trigger happy havoc#byakuya togami#kyoko kirigiri#makoto naegi#aoi asahina#bork speaks#analysis#She just popped off on him#Trial 4 is incredible and I couldn't help wanting to dissect it

Ginny Weasley should die.
Thank you for the prompt anon! 😊 I hope you like it.
Death's cup
"Ginny Weasley should die."
Harry looked up from his newspaper and thought about his wife upstairs. 50 years old. Not quite in her quidditch years anymore but not old enough to die of natural causes, or so Harry would think. He did not want to let her go.
He looked at death. He seemed familiar. "Ah. Interesting that you tell me this. I thought you wielded your scythe on your own time, sir."
He stood up from the table and Death was yet still taller than him by almost more than a head.
Death moved uneasily. His face was hardly visible under his hood. "I do, but you... are the Master of Death and I will not take your wife away unannounced."
"I don't have the Elder Wand. The Stone is lost to time. The cloak belongs to James."
Death nodded. "You do not lose the title until someone else brings the items together. James is a special one. He hides from Death just as well as his father. There were some close calls under that cloak."
Though the thought of his son dying prickled as much as thinking about Ginny dying did, he only nodded. "He has no clue what it used to be like."
"He grew up safe thanks to the efforts of the generation before him," Death said. "I need to go and start on my day. I will be back in a few moments."
And just like that, Death walked out of his back door and soared straight up into the sky.
Harry had not even moved from his spot when James appeared by the same back door and knocked before entering.
"Morning dad, here's the cloak like you asked." His son put the cloak down on the table. "Mum still asleep?"
He nodded, dumbfounded but didn't reveal that he had never asked for the cloak. "Sleeping in."
"Alright. I'll see you two for dinner, yeah?"
Harry nodded again, trying not to think of the horrible possibility of Ginny not making it to dinner. "Of course," he said around the lump in his throat.
His son walked to the door again but Harry stopped him. James turned around to look at him.
"With or without that cloak, you're not invincible. Don't forget that," Harry said.
James offered him a lop-sided smile. "Is this another lesson from you where you take the cloak away from me to prove something?"
"No. Just a reminder."
"Because I am getting married soon and then I want to give you some of those grandkid-things mum dreams about." James hugged him.
Harry hugged him back. "Don't tell her that or she'll bug you about it until you bring her one."
"Merlin," his son let out with a chuckle. "I know it. I thought Al was going to beat me to it, to be fair." James released him and stepped back.
"He might still," Harry mused out loud.
James nodded in agreement. "Alright, see you tonight, dad!"
Harry waved absent-mindedly, his fingers of his other hand already wrapping around the cloak.
As soon as James had disapparated, he walked upstairs and into the master bed room. Ginny was sleeping soundly.
He tried not to think too hard about losing her but his arms shook as he draped the cloak over her. She did not stir.
"I love you, Gin," he said just in case and then he walked back downstairs.
He had just poured himself another cup of coffee when Death descended the stairs and walked back into the kitchen.
"The oddest thing just happened," Death said with an air of innocence, holding a list. "It says Ginny Weasley, bedroom, but I could not find her."
"That is odd," he agreed, the knot around his heart loosening a little. "Coffee?"
"Oh. Yes, thank you."
Harry poured Death a cup and handed it to him.
The skeletal hand wrapped around the ear of the cup. Both of them leaned against the counter as Death took a sip. A bit of steam escaped from the ear holes in his hood as he drank.
He seemed to leisurely read the list to see what was ahead for the day.
"Sir Barkington?" Harry inquired as he couldn't help but glance at the list.
"Yes," Death said. "Elderly dog. One of my favourites. It's such a joy to see them escape their old body with their achey joints and bad eyesight and see them chase around like a young puppy once more. It gets me every time."
Harry smiled. "That does sound rather nice." He looked at the name still at the top of his list. "Isn't it rather odd that my wife should be listed as 'Ginny Weasley' when she's been a Potter for thirty years?"
The cup of coffee hesitated in front of Death's mouth as his eyes slipped down. "That is odd."
"So?" Harry asked.
Death grumbled. "I wonder if the stupid fragmented souls messed with my list. Can't move on, can't go back. Trying to defy nature and now I have to pass those sorry excuses for a soul every morning on my commute!"
Harry's eyebrows rose. "If one was previously occupying a diary, it would know my wife's name rather well."
"Ah." Death's gaze fell on the list again. "That may very well be it. I'll need to investigate." He set the cup of coffee down on the counter and a quil appeared in his hand. He crossed Ginny's name off the list. "One way or another, consider her off the hook. I'll talk to her in another century or so." He rolled up the list and tucked it in the pocket of his cloak. "I'll see you soon."
Harry swallowed.
"Just kidding!" Death said, opening the door and stepping outside. "That never gets old! But you will. Live a long life, Harry. I will meet you again when it's time." He waved and then soared off once more.
Harry walked up the door and closed it. He returned to his coffee and took another sip.
"Why was the cloak on me?" She held it in her hands. She looked so very alive with tousled long hair and her night dress wrapped around her form.
"If I told you Death was looking for you, would you believe me?"
She snorted a laugh and picked up the cup of coffee from the counter. "No." She took a sip and promptly spat it out. "That tastes like death!"
"Told you he was here," Harry mumbled under his breath. "I'll get you a new one."
She playfully pushed him out of the way with her hip. "I'll make myself one. You clearly can't be trusted around the coffee machine anymore."
He laughed and took hold of her, kissing her eagerly.
"On second thought..." she said as she slipped her hand down his back. "Why don't you come back upstairs with me..."
"The counter is right there..." Harry offered.
She laughed. "I am not twenty anymore."
"No, you're not," he said happily, his hand caressing the curve of her hip. "But you get better every year."
"My joints don't," she said against his lips.
He pulled her up against him. "Oh, alright. And I'll make you a proper cup in a bit."
She dragged him upstairs, Death's cup forgotten.

Hi. I want to make a suggestion: Their s/o goes completely missing. How does the mercs react?
If not all mercs, van I suggest Sniper, Soldier and Engineer?
TF2 Mercs reacting to s/o going missing - [platonic, romantic]
> With five mercs (Sorry I didn't do all of them): Scout, Solider, Sniper, Spy, Engineer
Scout:
> Scout is the first one to notice your absence. He walks around the base looking for his bud but when unsuccessful his first thought will be "Ah, they probably went on a mission or something" and goes back to continue his activities
> When some time passes Scout starts to worry. Sure he could understand that some contracts are hard to finish but everyone were always back before day ends. And you are still not back.
> He can't stand it and decides to look around the base trying to find you. Unsuccessful after his research Scout is getting more worried
> I imagine him runing around from room to room, asking some guys about you only to hear that you still aren't back. Oh boy where are you?
> His reaction that you are missing next day fills him with worry. Why? How?! Where are they?! Why did they disappeared??
> First one to volunteer to look for you
> If you are his partner or if you have crush on each other be ready to be swarm with hugs and worried fast talk after this
> After you are found his first reaction is to put his arms around your shoulders and ask milion questions. Where were you, etc. Now he won't leave you for a whole week. "What? Noooo I wasn't worried about you, but don't disappear like that!" won't admit it but he missed you. A lot.
Solider:
> He won't see your absence at first, it will take some time for him to realize there was supposed to be 10 and not 9 people around
> He will shrug it off thinking you are just away
> He is going to find out you are missing only when someone points out your absence to him in person
> "SHALL KNOW NO FEAR MAGGOT!! MISSING WILL BE FOUND!!" He screams out loud, while running to the next room to look for you
> Alright.... it's been some time now. Where are you?... He is going to miss you buddy. He cares for his team, and is actually worried.
> When you are found he will lecture you how to not get kidnapped or lost again. That especially applies if you are his partner (you won't escape crushing night cuddles)
> Give him love, he missed you a lot, even if he doesn't show it
Sniper:
> He notices your absence after a while. Does it make him worry about you? Nope. He is going to come back to him van or practice his sniping skills not thinking about your disappearance too much. You all have a lot of work to do after all
> Hours will pass before he finnaly decides to look for you. Just to see where you are so he wouldn't have to think about it anymore
> When checking your most visited spots don't bring him any luck he'll ask some of teammembers about you.
> When it brings no luck he decides to look for you on his own. Come on.... where are you mate.
> After you are back safe and sound expect him to be not far away from you for.... three or more days, watching you from far away. Just to be sure you won't disappear without a word.
>If you are in relationship with him, he won't show any signs of beeing worried, but privately he'll give you a hug, or hold your hands close to his face
> He missed you... and he is glad you are back
Spy:
> He know you are missing before anyone does.
> He know his teammates well, from their activities to schedules and habits. He is a Spy after all, his job is to mimic people.
>When you are not doing something that according to his observation, you were supposed to do, he is going to look for you (invisible of course)
> Strange.... you are not here... not in your favourite spot... not around your favourite people. This.... is bad news.
> He let's everyone know you are missing, volunteering himself to look for you
> Back at the base he isn't going to stick around you very long. Just long enough to know you are well. He is kind enough to make you a drink
> When you are that one special person close to him, know he is going to take you to his room to give you best treatment you have ever received in your entire life. He will ask questions, how, who, what, why's and all that. Be patient with him, he wants to know details.
> Kisses on cheeks and hands, to let you know he missed you
Engineer:
> He is a busy man, but he is observant one too and is going to notice you aren't around.
> Will ask around first instead of looking for you by himself. When answer won't satisfy him, this is when he'll look for you.
> Is the first one to rase the alarm to let everyone you are missing
> Come on.... where are you?? It isn't like you to just be gone for so long...
> He is the one to find you and bring you back safely. Is the one to give you check up alongside Medic
> Expect him to ask you a lot of questions, just to be sure you are feeling alright. Will not leave your side for a while and is going to check on you from time to time bringing cookies or something to drink, like water or tea
> "Darlin' stay with me will Ya? Just... want to be with you" He is sweet one, wanting best for his partner, in the romantic way too. He doesn't want you to be missing again when he is being distracted with his work. Hold his hand and kiss him! He wants to be sure you are save dear...

FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLS
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ─ㅤDEAN & LITTLE FOX ! READER !
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/ef9b4ef82ecdc107f8ce9291b73434d7/91dee9afe1c9ad71-ce/s540x810/85384c11e888d9ff21c905fcaf4d35bf9df3ed60.webp)
" take a look at the sky just before you die — it's the last time you will ! "
file. all the man who never prayed wanted was someone that would listen and hear him. beggars could not be choosers when it came to the listening ears that lent themselves.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ ㅤ ㅤ ㅤ ㅤ———
dean came to terms with the simple fact that he, as a single individual in an undersaturated business, could not save everyone. but when he watched as you fell from the sky that night, he wished only for the ability to save you.
something had happened in the confines of the clouds before you fell. blood stained your face, your teeth, your pouting lips. your eyes were glossed in utter devastation, the front of the cream-colored silk slip you wore glossy maroon, clinging to your skin.
but it was not any of these details that made dean determined to help, in whatever way he could. it was the wings, wide and bright and untouched on your back. they glimmered like dusts of glitter upon feathers underneath the moonlight, something made of beauty attached to something that looked so wrong to the images in his head.
you don't look at him as you wail into your blood stained palms, the sound of your broken cries ricocheting around the forest, bouncing between tree trunk to tree trunk, muffled in the wind and in between the leaves.
dean doesn't exactly know what to do in this situation. a lot weighed heavily on him, and sure, a few times in these last few months had he begged for someone in the stars to just hear him, but he didn't expect for that someone to fall.
you looked like he felt — broken and shattered and damned. you were beautiful, though, in your ruins.
your red rimmed eyes shift up to meet his at the first sound of grass crunching beneath his feet, daring a step closer.
"what happened?" feels like too harsh of a way to address something so wounded, but it's all he has to offer you. the hand that hovers awkwardly in the dead space between the both of you doesn't seem to be working any miracles for your state, either.
you grasp at the silk clinging to your skin, your hand pulling away shiny and red. the sob you let out cracks through all of his armors and breaks him. "i don't know."
dean hadn't... ever seen an angel so human, before. so utterly unashamed of the tears staining your cheeks, so connected to the vessel you possess that you can't even seem to help yourself.
he'd help you.
hell, how many times had dean held crying girls in his arms and picked up their broken pieces for them? how many times had he clutched the loved ones of people overtaken by monsters, lost to the unnatural and the uncanny, and promised that it would be okay, even knowing that things would never again be the same for them?
you were not something that dean couldn't handle. that he hadn't already handled.
maybe he should have walked away. the gods and the angels didn't once answer him before, and somehow tonight, one literally lands directly in front of him? just for him?
something was off about it. unnatural, uncanny: but nothing that he hadn't dealt with before.
he crouches down to your level, and your eyes are striking. there is definitely something other about you, something a little off that people not trained in his expertise wouldn't pick up on. you could pass as a human more than any other angel could, but up close, he picked at the details with a finetooth comb.
your eyes were not blue, but purple. your ears were a little pointed at the tips. your grateful smile a little too cruel and unfeeling to be genuine. still, when he tried to find a word to describe you in his mind, he could only settle on beautiful, like no other word existed.
he might have asked you what you were. but his pessimism didn't seep all the way down to the marrow of his bones and his heart, and his heart screamed that you were an angel sent just for him. his angel. the one for him to keep safe, and to keep him afloat.
the words die on his tongue, and when staring at you starts to make your expression twist in his trick-playing eyes, you tilt your head up to look up at the starry skies.
"i haven't seen stars in forever," your voice is laced in awe, gaze flitting between each sparkling dot in the deep blue night, like you couldn't seem to settle on one.
dean wants to say, me neither. wants to lay beneath the canopies of leaves and drink in the rare moment of peace he's found here with you. this broken thing still taking the breaths to memorialize beauty through the pain inside of you.
instead, his mouth opens, and something less expected comes out. "come home with me."
there is that flicker in your eyes again. the something other that he can't seem to place, that he loses the moment he clocks it. again, all dean sees when your eyes meet his is that devastating purple, and a devastating amount of shimmering hope in them.
"home?"
dean's face flattens. "...is a motel, an hour or so away."
"a home is a home," you say, and the blood on your hand is dry now. dean knows it because you close the crusted fingers around his own, finally, and allow him to pull you to your feet. "i have not had a home in forever, either."
you won't get the innuendo or jest in his joke, but he says it anyways. "i get to be your first?"
your eyes dance now, those pretty lips once again wicked. "if only you were."
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/ef9b4ef82ecdc107f8ce9291b73434d7/91dee9afe1c9ad71-ce/s540x810/85384c11e888d9ff21c905fcaf4d35bf9df3ed60.webp)

The Secretary ; Jeong Yunho
there's always a lot of work to do, too many orders to obey, a lot of complaints to hear. and you love it.
you love to be the one ordering Yunho around, to see him doing his best so he can keep the job, swallowing his words to not disrespect you when you're actually being a bitch.
but he understands it now and at this point, it's just fun. you try so hard to affect him, so focused on getting on his nerves. you could have anyone you wanted, but you wanted him and that's flattering.
so when he comes in your office during the day, the annoying smirk is already on your lips and he knows you're ready to say something to put him in his place, as usual. but there's no time for it since he grabs you by the neck and pushes you against the wall.
you don't fight back, he can't even hear you complain like you love to do. His eyes examine you carefully in contrast at what his fingers do with your blouse, ripping it off, buttons spread all over the floor.
"i didn't think you would behave so well, but i guess all you wanted was to be a good bitch for me, right?" before you could answer, he turns you around, slamming your face and body on the harsh surface.
He pulls up your skirt and you push your hips against his, urging to feel something, needing more contact. your voice is desperate and whiny when you ask him to touch you and this only makes him smile wide. the fiery boss is nothing but a precious whore for him and you can't even deny it.
he wastes no time and slams himself inside your wet hole, being welcomed with your moans and warmth.
"the door is unlocked and you have cameras here. would you like to see someone stepping in and catching you taking cock like that?" he asks cunningly.
hips going harder, the sounds of your bodies hitting on each other just increasing, your moans getting louder, and you way too lost in pleasure to form any sentence.
"maybe i can get the recording and show my coworkers how good you are for me, i bet they would love to meet the real you." and this idea is not that bad for you, right? to have yourself embarrassed to this point, to have everyone to know you're just a filthy slut who craves cock?
you're clenching around him, swallowing him whole and begging for his cum, he just can't deny you that. so he gives it to you, thrusting nonstop so he can be sure you're filled with all of his load, your juices mixing up and staining your inner thighs.
he’s ready to leave the office when he sees everything is perfect, your shirt is ruined, you are dripping cum as there are many people outside just waiting for you to come out.
"i think our professional relationship will be better from now on."
“you just need to be a good girl and no one will know this is just a facade for the needy bitch you are."
he gives you one last look, a victorious smile on his face.
"good luck, with your meeting you’ll need it."

one year later, still yours
sum: sure, I used to be a regular here but I haven't been here in over a year and you still remember my order.
tw: unrequited feelings - both ends. percy's a sarcastic ass.
ive been pumping out fics heheh, also i love using logan lerman as percy bc hes jus so percy n hes so scrumptious and i wanna eat his face and his biceps and every bulging muscle on his ripped body ugh.
it was a slow day in general. you've been working at a local coffee shop near your house for two years now and your favorite regular that you've grown romantic feelings for is gone and been gone. you know that he only came in to buy drinks for his mom, but you also knew that he loved eating blue food dye, and if there was a blue drink he'd make starbucks even more rich. yet, you haven't seen him or his mother. you figure he'd started buying from a local coffee shop that's closer to his house and plus its still a small business that helps.
it sucks though because you had grown feelings for this boy. his name was Percy Jackson. you would always spell it wrong just to tick him off. 'persy jakeson' 'pansy jackson' 'perry the platypus'. a few that you have put over the year he was here. he would come in every saturday at the same time with the same order for him and his mom.
"medium caramel macchiato with extra caramel drizzle, a blue sugar cookie, and a small hot chocolate to go! puh-lease!" is exactly how percy would say it. his mom got the caramel macchiato and he got the blue sugar cookies and hot chocolate. you remembered the order and the cute face though after two months of him ordering at your shift. you made sure that if you guys were open that saturday at 8:35 that you were there for that shift.
you hear someone coming in, even though it was slow you were still working. "hi, welcome in! how are you?" you attempt to sound nice. don't know how well it's working yet. you haven't looked up. you were wiping the counters down. you look at the time.
saturday, 8:35 AM.
you look up immediately. it's him. you smile, "been a while, hm? thought you found somewhere else to get.... a medium caramel macchiato with extra caramel drizzle, blue sugar cookie, and a small hot chocolate all to go?"
he scoffs, "psh, never. you're the only one. my mom just stopped drinking coffee so i didn't have a good enough reason to go to the local coffee shop with the cute barista without telling my mom about the cute barista. 'we have blue sugar cookies and hot chocolate for free at home Perseus' blah blah blah. i have to admit though, the pillsbury dough boy with blue frosting and blue sprinkles is a lot better than your guys' cookies. might run you for your money."
you laugh, "so she tried to keep us apart? what is this, Romeo and Juliet?"
he laughs with you, "i'm surprised you remembered the order."
"you're a regular, of course i remember," you say incredulously, "you want the cookie and small hot chocolate but no macchiato?"
"yeah thats fine.. but [insert reader's name], sure, i used to be a regular here but i haven't been here in over a year and you still remember my order. thinking about me?" he says with a smug smile plastered on his stupid pretty face.
his stupid pretty face with some black hair falling into his long dark eyelashes and his gorgeous sea green eyes and his pretty pink full lips that you just wanna kiss and nibble on 'til there red and peeling.
"so am i right or completely far off?" he questions with a shit eating grin.
"think you have completely lost it, perry the platypus." you sigh, with your own stupid smile on your face.
he rolled his eyes and laughed, "oh we're bringing that name back? okay, okay. just know I'll get my revenge."
"ooh menacing," you say sarcastically as you hand him his hot chocolate and bag of his treat, "i left a little note under the coffee sleeve for you."
"oh i'll be sure to throw it away before i get to read it." he says sassily with a big goofy smile as he walked out.
you smiled and laughed at his shenanigans.
he got outside and got in his car. he immediately moved the sleeve, which he doesn't even know why you still put it if you make it directly for him to drink immediately - not too hot but not cold.
he lifts up the sleeve and sees you did write something. at first all he sees is a smiley face, he then turns the cup and sees what you've written in full. your number.

Warnings ⚠️: Mentions of violence, family expectations, mentions of alcohol , mentions of combat, angst.
Characters: Vi, Jinx, Caitlyn,Sevika, Mel.
-Vi
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/212e2c579c6d02dcec0eef76d58d2665/6dc7527920a032c8-fd/s540x810/670a78fb4444a6ef8e26cee7ff21cb6cbcc96762.jpg)
●"Damn, sweetheart, didn't take you for the highborn type. Thought you'd be too busy drinking wine with stuck-uo nobles to get your hands dirty."
●Vi doesn't trust you at first. A du Conteau in Zaun? Sounds like trouble. Your family name alone sets off alarms in her head, and she expects you to be just another power-hungry Noxian. But once she sees you in action - fighting with precision, unshaken by the chaos of the Undercity- she starts to respect you.
●She loves sparring with you. Your technique is polished, refined, and deadly, whereas she fights with brute strength and street-learned aggression. You get under her skin when you dodge her punches with ease, smirking as she grits her teeth. "You gonna hit me, or are you just dancing around?" You taunted.
●Vi might not fully understand Noxian politics, but she knows what it's like to have a name that carries weight. If your family disapproves of her, she won't lose sleep over it. "They can come over after me if they want. Won't change a damn thing."
●She calls you "princess" as a joke, especially when you get a little too proper about something. But she loves seeing the ruthless side of you - it reminds her that you're not just some delicate noble.
-Caitlyn
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/79d1682fca620d065f982991dbc9d596/6dc7527920a032c8-81/s540x810/f874425830d2b53918c20d2a7ac7438f9f036e4b.jpg)
●"The Du Conteau family... I assume you're well-versed in both politics and combat?"
●Caitlyn is intrigued by you. She knows about Noxian nobility and the weight your last name carries, and she's immediately assessing whether you're a threat or an ally.
●She admires your tactical mind. Whether it's tracking criminals or navigating the web of Piltover High Society, you're a strategist at heart. The way you analyze a room, assess power dynamics, and remain composed in tense situations reminds her of herself.
●Your combat skills fascinate her. You move like a ghost, striking with precision and efficiency. If she ever watches you fight, she studies your every movement, fascinating by how different yet efficient your technique is.
●The two of you have intense discussions about justice, power, and the differences between Piltover and Noxus. You challenge her ideals, forcing her to think beyond Piltover's black-and-white morality.
●She's protective of you, even though she knows you can handle yourself. If someone insults you for your Noxian background, she'll shut them down instantly. "Judge them by their actions, not their name."
-Jinx
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/3636a3f1dbe8642232431a70bed2097f/6dc7527920a032c8-e9/s540x810/163d7f2642f9b865888b55e01b4e45e171c69c67.jpg)
●"Wait, wait, wait - you're telling me you're some kinda fancy- pants assassin noble? Pfft, that's hilarious!"
●Jinx finds the idea of a Du Conteau hanging out in Zaun ridiculous - and endlessly entertaining. She mocks you at first, calling you "Lady Stabby Stab" or "Dagger Duchess," but once she sees what you can do, her interest skyrockets.
●She loves pushing your buttons. If you're the serious type, she's constantly messing with you, testing your patience. "What happened if I steal one of your fancy little daggers? Ooo, are you gonna assassinate me? Spooky!"
●But deep down, she respects you. You're dangerous, calculated, and not easily rattled. Even when she's at her most chaotic, you don't flinch. That both excites and unnerves her.
●If you ever show a wilder side - reckless, ruthless, or unpredictable - Jinx is hooked. She thrives on chaos, and if you embrace some of that, she'll see you as a kindred spirit.
●She adores the contrast between you and her. A trained, disciplined noble choosing to spend time with a manic, volatile criminal? Now that's a story.
-Sevika
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/950d9e6a28c99e132fce4ffd8202c044/6dc7527920a032c8-b1/s540x810/730bf76e2b538a3f3ba244770e83651c872330b5.jpg)
●"Hmph. A noble walking around Zaun? Either you're lost, or you're looking for a fight?"
●Sevika isn't impressed by your name or your staus- Zaun doesn't care about Noxian nobility. What does impress her is strength, amd you? You have that in spades.
●She doesn't waste time with pleasantries. If you want her respect, you have to earn it. A fight is usually the fastest way. If you hold your own, she'll smirk and say, "Maybe you're not just some spoiled brat after all."
●She likes drinking with you. If you can handle strong Zaunite liquor without flinching, she'll give you a nod of approval. If you do flinch, expect some teasing.
●If she sees that you're tired of noble politics and the weight your name, she'll simply say, "Then stop pretending. You don't owe them a damn thing." Sevika doesn't care about legacy - only survival.
●She's fiercely protective once she sees you as her own. If anyone dares to threaten you in Zaun, she'll handle it- violently.
-Mel
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/5baa1026162519988eb340c20a12c7cb/6dc7527920a032c8-01/s540x810/d3bccf25c19ee9078b5c727f1c6fc61f5c905113.jpg)
●"A Du Conteau? How... fascinating."
●Mel recognizes your name immediately. The Du Conteau are known in Noxian circles, and she loved the intrigue of it all.
●The two of you engage in sharp conversations. Every word is deliberate. Every glance calculated. It's like a game of chess where both of you are five moves ahead.
●She admires your strategic mind. If you play the political game well, she'll be even more drawn to you. Power is attractive, and you know how to wield it.
●She appreciates beauty, and if you carry yourself with grace and confidence, she'll take notice. Expect lingering touches, soft compliments, and knowing smirks.
●"You're family values strength above all else. Tell me, my dear - where do you find your strength?" Mel doest just want you to know your skills; she wants to understand you
●If your family disapproves of your association with her, she's utterly unbothered.
●"Let them watch, I enjoy an audience."

The abusive relationship you were in with your boyfriend was too much to handle. He would verbally and physically abuse you. When it got to intense you went to your best friend Jakes house.
Today was no exception.
The man who was supposedly your boyfriend was drunkenly screaming in your face and grabbing you. All because you forgot to tell him where you were and came back at ten PM. You were out to get him his birthday gift yet you lost track of time. But he didn’t know that did he?
“ You were with Jake weren’t you huh?! Are you fucking cheating on me?!”
His hot alcohol-laced breath hit your tear streaked face. Suddenly he raised his hand but before his hand could make contact with your face he held back.
“Just go, just fucking go.” He said, out of breath while pointing to your shared room.
The shopping had worn you out so you knew it’d be better if you just obeyed. Slowly you walked to the room, you heard him mutter something but it was too incoherent to hear. It wouldn’t be anything good anyways.
3 AM. The clock hit three AM and you suddenly got pulled out of your dream. Besides you was nobody you just assumed your boyfriend went to a friends house.
Suddenly something flicked in your brain. You had to get out of here, fast. With a swift motion you quickly stood up walking to the closet changing into something warm. With nothing but your wallet and phone you stepped out of the apartment complex.
You knew exactly where you wanted to go; Jake. You hoped god would forgive you for just leaving your boyfriend but it was for the best.
Jakes house was only a ten minute walk away. It was one of the only things you liked in this city. Standing infront of Jakes front door you knocked with a heavy sigh hoping that he was still awake.
Suddenly you saw a smiling Jake standing infront of you pulling you into a tight embrace. Oh the sense of comfort you felt was unexplainable you melted in his arms.
For a few minutes neither of you said anything just basking in the warmth you provided eachother. Finally you decided to break the silence.
"I´m sorry for coming over so unannounced." you mentioned in a hushed tone.
Jake shook his head. "dont mention it its completely fine. What did he do this time?"
"The same bullshit gosh I just want someone to love me." you responded.
Suddenly Jake pressed his soft lips against yours picking you up and putting you on his lap on the couch. He pulled away and rubbed the tip of his nose against yours.
In that moment a wave of guilt washed over you. What were you doing and why were you enjoying this so much?
"Jake no this isnt right.." you told him in a worried tone.
"I know that you love him babe I get it darling, yeah I aint gonna tell him babe I get it darling. You got a situation just stop sweating darling". Jake said while wiping a few drops of sweat off your forehead with the back of his hand.
That moment was it. You knew that being with jake was the way to happiness and not being with some controlling douchebag. This was your home now, with Jake.
"Just cool dont panic darling".
His smooth voice said with a slight chuckle looking into your eyes lovingly.

more arcane serial killer au, this time with Mel (part 8)
trigger warning: organ harvesting (mel), abusive relationships (Jayce)
Be warned Viktor is fully a serial killer and does serial killer shit to people no matter who they are
Also I AM BLACK
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/ed0c80837489d02a8ec93fbbb4091a33/0af86e7692159ee3-e7/s540x810/97b9ba15c58c70f092dc440e11faaf26c8b2a7bb.jpg)
I have insecurities about feeling like my mind doesn't work right (it doesn't) and the idea of being an object someone else uses is comforting to me. I wrote this fic to comfort me, if this kind of this is disturbing to you that's why I added trigger warning
Don't send me death threats just because what I find comforting is weird to you.
And if it isn't blatantly clear Viktor and Jayce are fucking monsters, they are serial killers I don't know what kind of romantizising Ted Bundy shit you've been reading to think a serial killer au would include anything but fucking monsters
Viktor eventually learned to hack into hospital data bases and found that one person had on their file a rare mutation that meant that their organs could be easily accepted into a person with any other tissue type, Mel Medarda
He was practically salivating with the ideas of all he could do with her body, not only the lives he could save with her organs but all the other transplants they deemed to risky to undertake, a woman who had lost her face to an acid attack could get a new face, a man who had gone blind years ago could see again
And what her genes could do, the thought of mixing her eggs with Jayce's sperm to create the peak of humanity, the final glorious evolution
But she was a piltovan elite and he was still just some researcher from the undercity
He runs to Jayce with excitement, "Jayce! Jayce! I need your help with something!"
Jayce still remembers the first time Viktor asked for his help, shy requesting such a minor thing as moving a fridge and now he's sure that whatever Viktor's request is is something that could easily put him behind bars
But this man still has a bomb in his heart so he tries to perk up and asks "what do you need me for?"
"I found the perfect body!"
"I thought I was your perfect body?" Jayce hates how comfortable he's become with this
"You're beautiful and kind but she... this woman... if her medical records are correct we could use her body to perform much riskier surgeries" Viktor nuzzles his face into Jayce's chest, ".... Cathy could finally get a face, Andy could see again"
A part of Jayce loved seeing Viktor like this, the Viktor Jayce once thought he knew who only wants to help people but when Jayce remembers the cost of Viktor's 'help' he's not all that sure about it
"Viktor you remember the rule we set up, you have to have at least 5 people waiting before you kill someone"
"that's whats so great about her, I could use every single part of her body... god it's amazing, Singed might want some of her skin, ooo maybe I could use her muscles to help with some reconstructive surgeries... I could improve my leg!"
Jayce sighs as he realises how far he's come to now give into the puppy dog eyes staring up at him, "and what do you need me to do"
"she's an elite politian, I'd never be able to talk to her. You have to draw her in for me"
Jayce sighs, this was the kind of work he agreed to do as he wanted to stay as far away from the bloody stuff as possible but dragging in a politian with no one noticing was a different challenge, "how am I even supposed to do that?"
"You can go slow, build up her trust"
"like you did to me?"
"and see it worked"
Viktor uses his organ money to get Jayce into some fancy money and Jayce has one job: to woo the most sought after person there
