Ghouls Reaction to Seeing a Like Dove While Alone with MC

These are all written under the assumption that you're the one whose feelings made the Like Dove show.

Frostheim:

Jin Kamurai - Jin would notice the dove but he wouldn't care for its presence or for what it means. He's King Kamurai, after all. There's probably dozens of students thinking about him.

Tohma Ishibashi - I could totally see Tohma teasing you about the dove once he sees it. He'd ask you if you know what it means or if you brought it here- but he'd change the topic before you could answer

Lucas Errant - Luca would point out the dove, thinking it looks pretty, but he wouldn't realize what it means despite Kaito telling him in the early chapters.

Kaito Fuji - Kaito would freak the fuck out and cry like he just won the lottery. Seeing a Like Dove basically is like winning the lottery for him.

Vagastorm:

Alan Mido - Alan would point out the dove, but only because he thinks it looks nice. He has absolutely no idea what it means. "Hey. Look at that bird. Why?... It seems like something you'd like."

Shohei Haizono - Sho is used to seeing the doves hang around Leo, but not him. What did they mean again? Something about someone liking someone else? Whatever, he doesn't care.

Leo Kurosagi - Leo wouldn't pay any mind to the Like Dove. He sees those things all the time, after all. It doesn't mean anything to him anymore.

Jabberwock:

Haru Sagara - Haru would think it's just another anomaly wandering around Jabberwock- not that it's near him for any specific reason. He'd still tease you about it though. "Gyahaha! A Like Dove! Those only show up when someone's crushing on you!! Do you have a thing for me?"

Towa Otonashi - Towa would get so giddy and happy. After all, he saw a Like Dove while he was with you!! That must mean you love him justtt as much as he loves you! He'd wrap his arms tightly around you and give you a big hug as he nuzzles you.

Ren Shiranami - Ren would brush it off completely. "Oh, that? Yeah apparently those show up and visit people when someone's crushing on them. Dunno who'd ever be into me tho."

Sinostra:

Taiga Hoshibami - He'd eat it. And then he'd eat you. It's up to you whether it's in the kinky way or not.

Romeo Lucci - The Like Dove would immediately catch Romeo's eye and he'd demand you to capture it for him. He'd be too focused on grabbing the rare anomaly to even confront you about why it appeared when you were with him.

Ritsu Shinjo - Ritsu wouldn't say anything about the dove but he'd take note of it. If he kept seeing them around, he'd eventually talk to you about it. " I often see Like Doves whenever we're together. Do you have romantic feelings for me?"

Hotarubi:

Haku Kusanagi - Haku would tease you about the dove, but in the kind of way that revolves around you. "You see that dove over there? It means someone's thinking of you. I'm not surprised. You're quite the catch~"

Subaru Kagami - Subaru would be more shy about it than you. He wouldn't want to bring it up... what if you think he's accusing you of having a crush on him? He probably wouldn't even be able to look at the pink bird.

Zenji Kotodama - Zenji would point out the dove and sing a little rhyme he wrote about it. He'd tell you stories of the dove without really realizing why it showed up for him.

Obscuary:

Edward Hart - Ed would pretend not to notice the dove while he teases you (aka asks you outlandish questions). And of course, he'd throw in a "Do you prefer Rui or Lyca?"

Rui Mizuki - Rui would point it out and tease you about it relentlessly. "You know what those mean, right? Someone has a crush~"

Lyca Colt - Lyca would notice the Like Dove from the sudden new smell. He'd glare and growl at it, thinking it means danger. "Grrr... what is that thing? Why's it following me around?"

Mortkranken:

Yuri Isami - Seeing the dove would boost Yuri's already massive ego. Of course someone's thinking of him! He's a magnificent doctor! Wait... what do you mean Like Doves show for romantic adoration?! After this realization, he'd go into Victorian Gentleman Cardiac Arrest ™

Jiro Kirisaki - Jiro probably wouldn't even notice it unless you pointed it out. Even then, he'd just info dump about the biology of the Like Dove, the meaning of it's presence completely going over his head.

Au where Geno, Error, Killer and honestly anyone who has determination or a parasite inside of them is a zombie. Would be easier and more interesting to make this into a modern au

Like imagine Reaper is just hanging out in a graveyard because he lives right next to it and sometimes helps out with the patrols, and then he just sees Geno dig out of his grave

You know that ‘but what if there was a good one’ trope of the ‘monsters’ from movies/media etc.? I’m thinking of BG3 (because BG3 brainrot is constant right now)…

What if there was someone in the shadow cursed lands who was undead but not hostile? What if this character could help your party? Or could be welcomed into your camp as a follower? Not heroic or anything. Just a lil undead guy (gn).

Maybe they cook for your party, or maybe you find a lute and bring it back, but no one at camp can play it so it gets set aside, but they pick it up and strum a few chords and remember what it felt like to be alive? What if they can fletch and enchant arrows for you? What if they’re so desperate to be useful and loved and cherished that they’ll do anything not to be sent out into the cursed, dark, echoing shadows again? spoilers they don’t have to *do* anything to earn their place, but after 100 yrs they don’t know that

What if they can pass as the undead and slink out of camp after your party one day, only to find you surrounded and struggling, so they grab a dagger from a nearby corpse and chuck a bag of healing potions and scrolls at you at the last minute and literally save everyone, and they’re celebrated and hugged and thanked that night back around the fire and finally feel like they have a home and a family again after a hundred years of fear and isolation and loneliness…

Something that only came to me while re-reading the manga after the anime came out involves the name of Andy itself and I think it's actually pretty interesting to think about.

Spoilers for the later half of the manga (roughly about up to Chapter 124)! .

After the mess with the Union goons, Fuuko asks about Andy's name after calling him "Zombie" for most of the chapter. Andy responds that he doesn't remember and says being called "Undead" is good enough. Fuuko doesn't like that and decides to give him the name "Andy" instead. Andy clearly doesn't like the name very much, but considering he knows he'll have to humor Fuuko to find a way for her Unluck to kill him, he just accepts it.

In fact, I've noticed most people at first tend to call him "Undead", a dehumanizing sort of term, such as Void and the Union goons. Which considering Andy's desire to die is rooted from the guilt and loneliness being immortal brings, serves to further create emotional distances from others and perhaps even himself.

And even "Undead" doesn't quite fully fit him either because Andy is an alter ego of the original Undead Victor, so even that name wouldn't be really unique to him specifically since there are technically two different individuals with the ability.

(On a tangential aside, the first person aside from Fuuko that calls him Andy consistently is actually Shen after hearing Fuuko call him that…and he's essentially the closest thing Andy has to a bro. Make that as you will.)

But I think where Andy starts to view the name differently happens starting in the climax of the Spoil arc, with Fuuko telling him they still have so many more things to do together and then literally risking her life trying to bring him back after Victor takes over the body. And Andy knows and Fuuko also knows he is using her for the sake of finding a way to die.

It's also after this event that Andy calls Fuuko by name for the first time after she wakes up in the hospital after having called her "brat" every time up to this point. Of course, this time, he takes it back, but Fuuko notices the significance of it to want him to call her by name again.

Anyway, both of them get sent to the black market auction and Fuuko picks a dress that needs some bust tailoring. It's something I didn't really pay attention to during my initial reading when it came out, but Andy signs his name as "Andy" on the delivery form. While it might have been for practical reasons, the fact he used that name for the signature is actually pretty significant because it implies Andy is slowly beginning to accept the name Andy as his own and not just something Fuuko calls him.

(Andy has really nice penmenship, as an aside.)

But it's only during the Ragnarok arc that the significance of the name Andy really changes.

In Chapter 99, Lucy asks Andy who is he after he saves her from an UMA. Andy initially introduces himself as "Undead", but then immediately nixes it and re-introduces himself as Andy. And this is actually the first time he's introduced himself as Andy because everyone else who calls him Andy usually only does so because Fuuko calls him that (such as the example with Shen). This leads into what happens in Chapter 124, where Andy finally calls himself "Andy the Undead", accepting consciously that his name is Andy, a member of the Union and Fuuko's partner in slaying God.

In other words, Andy fully accepting Andy as his name is a form of humanization, which is something Fuuko helps him to understand is what he truly wants is to feel human.

So, what if....

"Ghoul" is actually an umbrella term given by the Clergy to the vast variety of hellish fiends, imps, the undead and various demonfolk they summon for anything from their dark rituals to helping with the Ministry's deeds.

Siblings and sisters of sin are used to say and think that most of the Clergy ghouls "belong" to a certain element only because they often see some distinctive traits of theirs leaning into a certain element, or because a clergy member with a bigger knowledge in summoning and demonology told them so. And technically, they're not entirely wrong. It's just easier to refer to them that way because it's usually common for their elemental powers to manifest in a form of things that are linked to natural phenomenons inherently familiar to humankind. Also, the element-bound ghouls in question are from the most common "artificially established" type of ghouls that end up in the Ministry, the process for summoning them is well-known and has been practiced into perfection by the Emeritus bloodline through the eras (you could say they're lowkey "domesticated" them by experimenting and figuring out how to get the most loyal and tame ones with similar traits that work well together without sacrificing certain aspects), usually providing consistent results with less room for surprise features or chances to get a different (maybe even kind of an eldritch) kind of demonfolk...

The truth is, just like each snowflake is different from another, so are Ghouls. Those charismatic hellbeasts come into our world different and diverse. They are so, SO different in their looks, abilities, places they come from, element-bound magic and their very nature, it'll be impossible to catalog all of the possible variations into separate categories, and there's probably dozens of such that we don't know anything about or haven't even discovered yet. Take the reign of quintessence for example, being such a mysterious element on its own and all the different ways it manifests itself in different ghouls over the years.

So there's that.

And also there's that glittery undead skeleton-looking folk that we met recently. Still bearing the cold of the deepest parts of the pit they crawled out of, glistening in the spotlight, baring their sharp teeth in wicked grins and indulging in alluring carnal displays of sin and desire on stage.

Almost feral.

The whole new type of ghoul, a triumph of an ambitious necromancer and Ministy's newest addition for us to figure the hell out of.

Undead Unluck is fun because I have a weird thing for “We’re in a relationship for formal reasons.” Like it’s kinda fun to explore romance out of some sense of duty or side benefits. UU is interesting because technically Fuuko is forced into it but clearly she’s pretty into it almost immediately. and like, it’s not an official or really lovey dovey one but they’re talking about dates and she holds his arm and he gets her permission to marry another woman which isn’t taken too seriously but also is??? Peak. Even better that they then develop this mental synchronization. A big shonen problem is the weak/everyman usually female protagonist just getting pushed to the side but I fucking love she attached onto him like a backpack and is used to just cutting off his head now. I remember around ten years ago that I thought it would be fun to have an explicitly established couple be the shonen protagonists, like imagining this scene where in a middle of a fight one of them admits their junk smells bad during sex. I know that’s dumb and kinda embarrassing to admit but to me I’m like “Hinted romance is so boring, I want two people so in love that it doesn’t even matter that they are anymore.” So like, this is fun. Yes they still don’t really know each other all that much but they catch up pretty fast. Also again back to relationships beyond romance, love the person and their scary dog dynamic tons. Which they do so good at god damn. Gonna be so real, you know at some point when they get around to having sex, he eats her out so well. It’s just baked into his character goals lmao.
